In the modern Internet space, one of the key roles is played by resources, which are denoted by the term “social networks”. From the point of view of implementation, social networks are actually “independently developing organisms”, because development it directly depends on users of such resources: real life is boiling inside such sites: there is communication, friendship / relationships, someone becomes popular, communities are organized, etc. Your attention is presented overview of social networks in Russia and the worldthat have gained the most popularity and united millions of users under their own wing.

For your convenience, we list all the social networks that fell into our review. Links are clickable, and if you are too lazy to read everything, just click on the social network you are interested in 🙂.

So, here is our Top 11:

And, as you already understood, the role of a beginner is assigned review of the social network Badoo.com.

Badoo.com - social dating network

The site was obliged to appear in 2006, as it appears in the About Us block, to a small international group of entrepreneurs and businessmen. The birthplace of the social network is Misty Albion, and specifically London. True, the owner of the company - the developer of badoo, according to Wikipedia, is a Russian businessman Andrei Andreev, who, like any decent Russian businessman, has registered a company in Cyprus. But the point, of course, is not who owns what, and where it is registered. The bottom line is that 311.5 million people are Badoo users! This is according to the site itself - it even has a special counter that “winds up” 3-4 joined users every second. I remember that several years ago Vkontakte had a similar "lure". But let’s not talk about competitors now - it’s still up to them.

What is the main purpose of the site? Like any social network - of course, communication. True, Badoo has a "bias." The fact is that this is not just a “social network”. Badu - first of all, a social network of acquaintances. Well, and as a result, communication and all related acquaintances.

Since the topic of dating on the Internet does not reduce either relevance or popularity, hence the aforementioned 311 million registered users. In addition to this figure, we give a couple more.

So, the statistics. The level of monthly visits to the Badoo social network “floats” within 150 million, each user spends an average of 12 minutes on the site.

Badoo is an international social network available in 46 languages. Which is quite reasonable, because "love is submissive to all ages." And nationalities 🙂. The most popular social network is among hot Brazilians - 11.42% of all visits are in this country. Russia is half as “active” in this indicator, although it is also among the leaders with 5.11% of the total website traffic.

The interface of the social network is convenient, simple and understandable. There is a functionality that opens only for money (the so-called "premium"). Badoo definitely deserves the attention of those who want not just abstract communication, but have a specific goal: dating (as stated on the website of the social network itself - “quick, elegant and easy”) dating, search for “half”, relationships, desire to “have a good time in general time ”(again, quote from Badoo). Perhaps the main limitation is age. If the user is not 18 years old, he, according to the rules of the social network Badoo, has no right to register in it and use its functionality. Everything else that fits into the framework of decency and copyright, site rules are allowed. So if you already have 18, but no “second half” - run on Badoo!

Facebook.com - the largest social network in the world

The next "mastodon" of the world of social networks, probably, is not even necessary to imagine. 1.4 billion people around the world at the word Facebook start frantically checking their accounts on this international social network. 1.4 BILLION! The figure is simply unimaginable.

The Facebook.com social network has reliably secured the position of social network No. 1 in the world and is unlikely to give up this position. Quite the contrary, if the hyperambitious plans of the Youngest billionaire, and part-time creator and director of social networks Mark Zuckerberg, for the "Internetization" of the entire 7 billionth humanity of the Earth can be realized, the figure of 1,400,000,000 users will increase by several times.

So, what is Facebook and what does it “eat” with.

Having grown out of the student project of M. Zuckerberg, which started in 2004 under the name Thefacebook.com - a site for the interaction of American students - social network No. 1 soon (in 2006) became available for registration for anyone who has reached the age of 16 years. Popularity among users is due to the developed functionality of the social network (in addition to the direct ability to communicate, extensive entertainment and educational functionality, thanks to many applications, games, and communities), the continuous development of the site (Facebook was a “pioneer” in terms of introducing many of the “chips” characteristic of social networks and made them so popular). If the reader is interested in learning more about the social network No. 1, we recommend that you refer to the following reviews published on our website:

Google+: not the best Google project

Now consider the brainchild of the Internet giant Google, namely social network called google +.

Google has nurtured plans to create its own social network since 2003. And the implementation of these plans was very “branchy” long: attempts were made (both successful and not quite) to absorb existing social services, their projects were created and then abandoned. Disparate services were united, transformed - Google, like Frankenstein, with varying enthusiasm, but still implemented a plan to create its own social "monster". And in 2011 they did succeed: on the basis of Google Profiles, Google Circles, integration with Buzz and Picasa, a new social network, Google Plus, was born.

Initially, the social network was perceived in the Internet community very positively, even enthusiastically. Thanks to Google’s development, the social network made it possible to organize the dissemination of information in a different way than in other social networks (Kroogi made it possible to clearly differentiate between which users the content would be available), integration with Picasa allowed sharing photos uploaded to this service. It should also be noted that Google + was ahead of Facebook in introducing video chat into the social network. As a result, Google Plus was supposed to complete the formation of a “single Google space” around the user, combining all kinds of Internet services around a Google account. But ... Unfortunately, this incredibly ambitious project did not become a real competitor to Facebook: despite all the obvious advantages, Google Plus did not win the love of users. One of the factors of this failure was the lack of the same “rich” content as Facebook and Twitter.

More than 660 million monthly visits is a pretty good indicator, and most likely this fact will not allow Google to abandon its social project. This is also indicated by a recent update of the interface - most likely Google still had "trump cards" and Google Plus will still compete for a place in the sun in the world of social networks.

Largest social networks: Instagram

This social network has been actively spread due to the bet on mobile platforms - Instagram has actively diverged as an application on Android and iOS devices. Popularity is also due to the choice of the “main idea”, so to speak: Instagram is mainly a network for photos (and short videos), and only then for communication and other functions characteristic of social networks. It is around posting, evaluating, commenting on photos / videos that the entire scheme of the social network is built.

As of 2016, instagram.com is one of the 10 most visited sites in the world, and in the "profile" category - social networks - it has firmly established itself in 3rd place: only Facebook and Vkontakte are ahead.

Well, the monthly Instagram traffic is calculated in billions of values - on average 1.5 billion times a month visit it. The most actively use Instagram in the USA and Russia.

If the Reader is an active user of social networks, likes to take photos on his smartphone, then the social network Instagram will very organically fit into the “social life” of such a user, adding to the collection of tools for making “likes” and growing subscribers.

LinkedIn.com - Business Social Network

From entertainment and photography to serious projects: social network Linkedin.com - an example of just such a resource.

This project is positioning itself as the largest social network for business communication. The statistics provided on the site itself are very impressive: over 400 million users are registered on Linkedin. And the geography of user data totals 200 countries. And, as Wikipedia suggests, more than 150 business sectors are represented on this business social network.

The project was born in 2003 thanks to Reed Hoffman - a billionaire, writer, entrepreneur and just a talented person.

With Linkedin, users can build new business contacts, maintain their list, and this list of business contacts has a multi-purpose purpose. Existing contacts, being an “intermediary” link, allow you to be represented to other users, which directly affects the expansion of relations. There is a search for groups and companies according to the interests of a registered user. The user can also publish his resume, which, of course, may interest others (employers, potential partners, etc.). Yes, with Linkedin you can look for a job, and many do it very successfully. In a business social network, you can use the functions of recommendations - recommend someone else to someone, to be “recommended” yourself.

You can post vacancies and interest groups.

According to SimilarWeb statistics, linkedin.com ranks 31st in the global ranking of Internet resources.

If you are interested in expanding business contacts, especially in an English-speaking environment, then the Linkedin business social network can be a good tool for implementing such plans.

Myspace.com - social network for creative people

She deserves attention if only because she once wore the title of social network No. 1 in the world! But it was back in 2003-2008. The Internet giant Myspace.com was crushed by his rival, the brainchild of Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook. This happened in 2008, and since that time Myspace social networks have not been able to at least get closer to the leading positions in the global ranking of Internet resources. However, despite all the difficulties, the change of managers, owners and development concepts, myspace.com still did not manage to “sink into the abyss”: modern Myspace is a resource that has returned to its ideological origins of the site for creative personalities, dressed in modern A beautiful looking and well-functioning shell.

However, despite this, about 15.5 million users visit the site every month, which, in principle, is an impressive figure.

Pinterest.com - social network for business

This social network is very specific in terms of functioning. It can be compared, perhaps, with Instagram, since photographs (and animation) are also used here as “key figures”. In Pinterest terminology, each uploaded image is called a pin, and these pins are attached to “boards”, i.e. groups that the user forms based on some well-known considerations. It looks something like this:

"Pins" can be shared, discuss them with friends. Many consider the Pinterest platform as an excellent platform for a business - presenting a product and disseminating information about it, for example. As the inscription on the site of the social network “Pinterest is a place to search for interesting and useful ideas for a business or hobby.”

The popularity of Pinterest is obvious - about 100 million users are registered in this international social network.

The site is on the 39th line of the global rating of Internet resources, and on the 9th place among world social networks.

Every month, the site is visited more than 760 million times, most of the “visits” are made in the USA.

Those who are trying to be in the trend of modern Internet technologies, who prefer working with graphics rather than text, get acquainted with the Pinterest.com social network shown. Moreover, according to analysts, social networks have recently become increasingly popular in the Russian-language segment of the Internet.

Largest social networks: Twitter.com

In a review of social networks, it would be strange to ignore a super-popular project called Twitter. This social network, along with Facebook and Instagram, has long become an integral attribute of the "social life" of many Internet users. The social network owes its popularity to the publication format: according to Twitter rules, posts, messages, links, etc. are left. must not exceed 140 characters. The name of the social network largely conveys its character in translation from English "Twit" means "twitter, tweet." And there are more than 500 million tweets on this site.

Twitter was implemented in 2006 by Jack Dorsey, an American programmer and entrepreneur, and he grew out of the Odeo employees SMS service “for internal use”. The meaning of the service, conceived by Dorsey, was as follows: the user leaves a short message on his page, and all the “friends” subscribed to it instantly see it. The first twitter message was the line left by the creator of the social network: “Just setting up my twttr”. This was followed by a triumphant presentation of the service at the SXSW festival, during which the number of Twitter users jumped from 20,000 to 60,000 per day, and then on the rise.

So, the 2 “pillars” of the social network Twitter are short messages and followers. It is from the messages of those to whom the user is subscribed that his “feed” in the social network will be formed; Messages will be posted in reverse chronological order.

Twitter got the most distribution on mobile devices, which is quite expected: on small screens, short and informative (though not always) messages are absorbed much easier than long “footsteps” of someone’s articles, for example, on a blog.

Thanks to this social network, the technology of hashtags has been actively, perhaps, even too much developed: as a rule, this is a word or phrase that characterizes the content of the entire post, which is preceded by the “#” symbol (octotorp sign, if you are smart). Also, the used symbols “d” have specific functionality - setting it in front of the user’s nickname allows you to send a private message, and “@” - also puts in front of the user’s name and allows you to send him a response / notification.

At the moment, Twitter takes 11th place in the global ranking of world Internet resources, and 5th in the segment of social networks.

Familiarization with this social network can be recommended to everyone who is interested in new events in the world, country or any particular area, who wants to receive information or share it in the fastest way. By the way, Twitter is also very useful for business: it is an excellent tool for receiving feedback, feedback and other types of operational interaction with the world.

Vk.com - the largest Russian social network

It is time to recall the largest Russian social network project. Of course, we are talking about the well-known Vkontakte.

By the way, the name of the Russian social network No. 1 could be different - at first, sorting through the options, I almost stopped at Studlist.ru. However, the VKontakte founders realized in time that this name has a “niche” character and is not suitable for reaching a wider audience. As a result, with the filing of Pavel Durov, the project received the name currently known to everyone.

The social network vkontakte.ru was launched in October 2006. Already in 2007, more than 3 million users were registered on the site, and Durov said that the resource outstripped the popularity of its main Russian-speaking competitor - Odnoklassniki.ru.

Vkontakte absorbed the most popular and popular ideas in the world of social networks, having managed, while maintaining a certain balance in the issue of ease of perception and control of the interface, unlike Facebook, whose interface is oversaturated with functionality and in which an inexperienced person will need time to figure it out, get comfortable.

If the Reader has a desire to get acquainted in detail with the features of the Vkontakte social network, its interface and main features, we recommend reading the article:

The statistics provided by SimilarWeb are definitely pleasing to the eyes of the Vkontakte social network management: 1 place among all web resources in Russia, 2 - in the global rating of social networks, fourth - among all world sites in general!

Ok.ru - the main competitor of Vkontakte

Considering Vkontakte, we remembered his closest competitor in Runet - the social network Odnoklassniki. So the next few lines are about her.

The project started almost simultaneously with Vkontakte - in 2006. If Vkontakte is called a Facebook clone, then odnoklassniki.ru is the identical twins of the classmates.com social network, popular in America. Citizen A.M. Popkov, who worked in London, had experience in developing similar projects for European countries, and realized in time that this niche in Russia is a search and communication service for classmates / classmates, etc. - still free. And, as expected, the social network Odnoklassniki very quickly gained a lot of users and popularity in RuNet: in less than a year of its existence, odnoklassniki.ru registered 1,500,000 users.

Unlike Vkontakte, the management of Odnoklassniki quickly decided that users need to earn money: in the history of the social network there was a stage of paid registration, and the time when the user received full functionality for an additional fee, and other things that negatively affected the rating of the social network, but, obviously, they had a positive effect on the wallets of the site owners. However, over time, obviously unsuccessful decisions were corrected, so the site ok.ru is still one of the most popular and visited Internet resources.

In global terms, this translates into 1.3 billion monthly visits. And, apparently, there are no prerequisites for reducing the popularity and number of visits.

Chinese social network Renren.com

Yes, this is a Chinese social network. And it works ONLY in Chinese. What does not prevent it from being the largest in the number of registered users: on Wikipedia, the figure of 160 million is reflected. Yes, it’s not surprising - why come up with translations into other languages, if your potential users are 20% of the entire earthly population ?!

Initially, the social network was called xiaonei.com, and was, in fact, a copy of Facebook in Chinese. She got her life in 2005, and in 2008 she gained the title of "China's largest university online community." In August 2009 there was a “renaming”, after which the modern name Renren.com appeared

However, by the number of visits, he is still among the "millionaires" with his 22 million monthly visits.

At the same time, one can understand where the Chinese brothers who do not live in China Р settled to a greater extent around the world.

The social network renren.com can be recommended, firstly, to those who understand the Chinese language, and secondly, to those who want to establish contacts and start communicating with Chinese youth (the majority of users are students of Chinese universities).

This review of social networks can be considered complete. Yes, “overboard” there were several millionaire resources, which many also call social networks (for example, Livejournal and Youtube). This was done for the following reason: such sites, if they belong to social networks, then only indirectly, their main tasks are other areas: blogging, video hosting, etc. So, they deserve a place in a separate thematic selection.

Today, social networks are so firmly rooted in our lives that the composition of the five most popular social sites practically does not change from year to year. However, the scale of penetration and use of these social networks differs depending on geography and demographic factors. Understanding these differences plays a big role when targeting a specific audience. Comparing the most popular social networks, it is important to pay attention not to the number of registered accounts, but to the number of active users. From the review you will find out which social networks are growing faster than others, and which are now in decline.

The most popular social platforms

The chart, prepared by the Statista analytical agency, gives a clear idea of the number of active users (in millions) in the most popular social networks in the world. Tops the list of Facebook. This can hardly surprise anyone. Facebook occupies a large part of the market thanks to more than 2 billion active users. In January 2017, WhatsApp, which also belongs to Facebook, was the giant’s closest competitor. Then he was in second place. Today, YouTube is on the second line with 1.5 billion active users. Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp are third and fourth respectively.

They are followed by platforms, most of which are located in the Asia-Pacific region. These are QQ, WeChat and Qzone (with over 600 million active users). This shows that in the Asia-Pacific countries there are a number of popular social media. After them we see a cluster of sites mostly popular in the West - Tumblr, Instagram and Twitter.

But what about in Russia?

In Russia, the penetration of social networks is estimated at 47%, 67.8 million Russians have accounts in them. According to Statista, YouTube is the most actively used in the Russian Federation (63% of respondents), VKontakte takes the second place - 61%. The global leader of Facebook is only on the fourth line with an indicator of 35%. Among the messengers Skype and WhatsApp dominate (38% each).

Social networks that grow faster than others

Marketers usually do not spend much time on SMM. In which social network to concentrate efforts? Twitter, which managed to gather an audience of 313 million users from 2010 to 2017, showed the slowest growth rate compared to its largest competitors Facebook, WhatsApp and Chinese WeChat. Founded in 2013, Instagram by 2014 surpassed Twitter in terms of audience size.

A new study from Statista showed that in 2017 Twitter was far behind rivals. He showed the lowest growth in the monthly active audience, which from Q3 2015 to Q3 2017 amounted to only 23 million. Facebook, meanwhile, has grown by 461 million.

How users interact with brands in social networks

Knowing how to behave and what publications to do in social media is also important, because it forms the image of your brand and, as a result, stimulates users to buy your products or, conversely, unsubscribe from your groups. Social networks are increasingly used as platforms for working with clients, where existing and potential customers want to receive answers to their questions in real time. From the chart taken from the Sprout Social report, it can be seen that 48% of users can be inclined to purchase by quickly answering questions in the group. 46% respond positively to stocks, and 42% can choose a brand’s product if educational content is presented on its page. 27% of the users surveyed admitted that they would want to make a purchase if they were shown materials that usually remain behind the scenes.

Half of the participants in the Sprout Social survey said that they would unsubscribe from the brand community if they publish annoying materials there, and 27% said they mark the brand and its page as spam and block it. That is why in order to reach and engage your potential customers, it is so important to publish relevant and interesting materials that resonate with your target audience.

Social networks with the most active audience

An important factor that affects how much time we should devote to SMM in a certain social network is the level of audience engagement. Facebook again dominates here, where the highest time engagement is also observed, according to data obtained by comScore analytic company as a result of a study of a group of US consumers.

Facebook's successes are astounding. In addition to the fact that the social network itself occupies the top line, other platforms owned by the corporation also occupied the second and third places. Facebook Messenger’s penetration rate is 47%, and Instagram follows right behind it.

From the latest data from Pew Internet, shown in the diagram below, we can see that Facebook is in the lead in the number of active audience per day. 76% of users go to social networks every day, on Instagram this figure is 51%. Only 42% of Twitter users go there every day, which is almost half as much as Facebook.

The average daily duration of using social networks in the USA is 2 hours 1 minute; in Russia, users spend a bit more time on social sites - 2 hours 19 minutes.

Engagement rates in different social networks

TrackMaven, an analytical marketing company, analyzed 51 million posts of various companies from 130 industries to find out which social networks have the highest engagement rate. The results showed that Instagram is the absolute leader in engagement per 1,000 subscribers. This is so much higher than other social networks that I had to create a separate chart to illustrate the difference between Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.

As you can see from the second graph, Facebook is significantly ahead of Twitter and LinkedIn. The reason for this is, to a greater extent, that more posts are published on Twitter, because there is no algorithm that allows only a small part of the audience to show content. Because of this, brands have to fill their feeds with posts in order to break through the information noise. This, in turn, reduces the response rate on publications. Below is the average daily number of posts per account in three social networks.

General statistics on the use of social networks around the world

Each year, WeAreSocial updates its comprehensive Global Digital Report, which collects useful social media data from around the world. From it you can find out how differently social platforms are used in different parts of the world. Surprising is the fact that Western countries are seriously lagging behind in the rate of penetration of social networks.

Below are the main findings of the research.

 • The number of Internet users in 2018 reached 4.021 billion people, which is 7 percent more compared with data a year ago.
 • The audience of social networks in 2018 totals 3.196 billion people - 13% higher than last year.
 • The number of mobile phone users is 5.135 billion people, which means plus 4% compared to last year.

The numbers are growing rapidly, especially for active users of social networks from mobile devices - the penetration rate is 39%, which is 5% more than in 2017.

If we talk about the structure of web traffic depending on the type of device, then most of the traffic is generated by mobile users (52%, which is 4% higher than last year). Only 43% of all web pages visit desktops, which is 3% lower than last year.

Northern, Western and Southern Europe, as well as North America, boast the highest level of Internet penetration - 74% —94% of the total population uses the global network. In Russia, 110 million people use the Internet - 76% of the total population.

The growth of the global audience of social networks since January 2017 amounted to 13%. The fastest growth in the number of users is noted in Saudi Arabia. Since January 2017, their number has increased by 32%, the global average is 17%. Other countries with the highest growth rates are India, Indonesia and Ghana. The cause of the leap was the development of technology, which made it easier for people to access social sites. Slowest social networks grew in the UAE, South Korea and the UK -<5%. В России пользователей соцсетей стало на 8 826 000 человек больше (+15% к прошлогоднему значению).

Since the largest share of users is on Facebook, it would be useful to know how the content you publish appears in this social network and what features to use to increase its reach. According to social network statistics, the average publication coverage is 10.7%, while organic posts have 8% (organic coverage in Russia is 11.3%), and for paid posts this value is 26.8% (27.4% in Russia) . Organic and paid Facebook posts have enormous potential. It’s important to correctly target publications to get quality leads.

You can get a more complete picture of the state of the global digital market in 2018 by studying our review of the Internet 2017-2018 in the world and in Russia: statistics and trends, which we prepared based on the Global Digital 2018 study.

The popularity of social networks by country

The graph from the GlobalWebIndex report below, based on a survey of Internet users, perfectly reflects the popularity of various social networks across countries. Indonesia, the Philippines, Mexico, India and Brazil are among the ten most active audiences of each of the social networks, and are significantly ahead of the United States, Britain and European countries.

Of the four social networks represented (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and Google+), Russians are the most active users of video services. Only 20% of our compatriots use Twitter and Google+ relatively often, and just over 40% regularly use Facebook.

Social Network Demographics

As can be seen from the graph, a similar structure of using social networks is observed in different age groups. This suggests that social networks have reached the stage of maturity when they can be used to reach all demographic groups, regardless of age and gender. The exceptions are Instagram and Tumblr with a younger audience.

Social Media Audience Strategies

According to a study by The State of Social 2018, 96% of brands have a Facebook presence.

However, only half of the respondents have a documented SMM strategy. Big business is a little more responsible about this issue than small companies (60% said that they have such a document).

If we talk about the types of content published by brands, then images, links and texts are in the lead. Despite the fact that video posts, as a rule, receive the greatest response, video content takes only the fourth line here. This is primarily due to the complexity of creating such materials.

At the end of 2017, Smart Insights, together with Clutch, conducted a survey among business representatives, in which they asked which of the social networks are of the greatest value to them. It turned out that among B2C-companies, Facebook is considered the most effective (93% of respondents), and most B2B companies prefer LinkedIn (93%).

The value of social networking for brands in 2018

 1. If you think that your target audience is not on social networks, you are mistaken.

Through social networks, you can reach any audience, regardless of gender, age, social status. 98% of online consumers are registered in social networks, quite a large part of them are adults 55-64 years old.

 1. A third of all time on the Internet people devote to social networks.

The average user spends 2 hours 15 minutes a day, flipping through a feed and talking on social platforms, and young people 16-24 years old - almost three hours. If you do not consider SMM as a channel for attracting customers, then you voluntarily give the competitors the attention of your target audience.

 1. Half of all users of social networks are subscribed to brand pages.

4 out of 10 Internet users are subscribed to the pages of their favorite companies on social networks, and a quarter subscribe to brands when they plan to buy something. People have a positive attitude to such content, so an active presence in social media is of great value to companies.

 1. Social networks are the main source of information for consumers.

People aged 16-24 years old prefer to search for brand information on social networks rather than search engines. A quarter of users in this age group admit that a large number of likes on the brand page may lead them to buy. In the group of 35-44 years old, 20% of the respondents said the same thing. Social commerce can be considered one of the main channels for making a profit, which means that it is important to diversify efforts, and not just rely on advertising.

 1. Watching videos is a favorite activity on social networks.

Facebook is the largest social network by the number of users, but YouTube is the first in terms of traffic and the reason is in the video. Video posts receive the most active response, and that is why leading brands constantly publish videos on their pages.

The main trend of the 2000s: the spread of social networks around the world. The audience of the largest social network Facebook is 600 million users. This is the most popular resource of this type, but Europe also has its own local social networks, which are known among young people no less than the American giant.

Since 2005, original local social networks began to appear in Europe. And many of them remained so until 2010, however, this year they will have to intensify their struggle for the global market. By 2011, Facebook had successfully completed its expansion into the homes and mobile phones of most European users. But in some countries in Europe, local sites still hold first place.

Who is the first guy in the village?

This happens in Hungary, Poland, the Netherlands ... For example, Portugal and Romania have distinguished themselves from the rest in that they use the network Hi5created in 2003 by Indian student Ramu Yalamanchi. This is a traditional social network with profiles, the ability to post games and videos. The main emphasis is on the development of playgrounds and building a friendly network: there are friends of the first circle, there are second, there are third. The network clearly demonstrates the rule of 7 handshakes - we are familiar with any person on earth through a maximum of 7 people. The monthly audience of this project is 50 million people.

Classmates and dating

The largest Polish social network Nasza-klasa appeared in 2006. She positions herself as a place where you can find her classmates, classmates, teachers and academic leaders. To get into the ranks of Polish "classmates", an invitation is not necessary, registration on the site is enough. The network’s audience is 13.5 million people.

Popular in Italy and Spain network Badoo combines the functionality of a traditional social network and dating site. Today its audience is 106 million in 108 countries of the world. The company’s office is located in London, but the Russians have reason to be proud: it was founded by Russian businessman Andrei Andreev. Despite moderation, the network is known for having a lot of “dead” accounts. For unknown reasons, in 2010 Badoo was banned in Iran.

Musicians, bloggers and politicians

Two-thirds of the population of the Netherlands, which is 10.3 million people, are on a social network Hyvesfounded in 2004. This resource is doing everything possible to counter Facebook, and so far it has succeeded. On the network, you can buy a paid account and get more space for photos for this, as well as independently change the page design. Translated into Russian, the name of the Hyves network means "Beehive", which, according to the creators, reflects the essence of communication via the Internet. In 2006, a scandal erupted due to the fact that the Dutch police began to use the service to search for criminals. It seemed offensive to the freedom-loving Dutch. But this story also had a positive side - Dutch politicians turned their attention to this site. The country's prime minister has opened an account with Hyves. This resource was named the most popular site of the country a year later. And since 2010, the network began to develop gaming applications.

French, Belgians and Swiss traditionally blog on Skyrock. This is the 7th largest social network in the world, it allows users to publish music of their own composition and promote it through the site. In addition, Skyrock is gaining popularity among users thanks to the built-in online dating service. Today, 33 million blogs and 24 million users are registered on this network. Several times this network was attacked by the public. A group of French schoolchildren used it as a place to gossip about their teachers. It came to the point that the parents of these young "skyrokers" were summoned to school. And the American media connected the riots of 2005 in Paris with the activities of a social network, where the Protestants communicated with each other and coordinated their actions. However, the French authorities did not react to the publication of overseas journalists, and Skyrock continues to gain new users every day.

Entrance is only for staff!

Tuenti At first she called herself Spanish Facebook, but this resource is still far from the popularity of the American competitor. Today, the number of Tuenti users is 8 million people - this is also a very decent audience. Perhaps some restrictions on the growth in the number of users are related to the fact that the site is closed for free registration and the personal invitation scheme is in place. Tuenti appeared in 2006 and in translation into Russian means "your body." All options of the standard social network are available here: profile, photo, video, games, groups.

But in Germany, unlike other European countries, the network dedicated to finding a job and building a career has become more popular than the rest. XING was founded in 2006 in Hamburg, now it is available in more than 200 countries. Today it is used by 10 million people. Here you can buy a paid account that will better filter spam and protect personal data more reliably. XING has messengers in different countries who conduct offline seminars and engage business people in using the network. The system provides companies with unique corporate identity accounts. XING has already conducted an IPO, which speaks of the global ambitions of the network. According to data for 2009, the company's value was 45 million euros.

One of the oldest social networks in Europe is Hungarian. iWiW, which appeared in 2002. Its name stands for the English expression Who is Who - "Who is Who." Despite its age respectable for the Internet, no more than 5 million people are registered on the network. In 2010, iWiW became available on mobile media.
