How many pages in VK. How to find out how many people are currently registered on VKontakte

“The spread of social networks in the world” prompted us to write an article, the idea of which had been brewing for a long time. For those who have not yet seen the RIA article: almost all over the world the leading social network. The network is Facebook, and Twitter is also in the top three everywhere. Among the rare exceptions is Russia, where VKontakte, Odnoklassniki and Moi Mir are leaders in the number of registered users.

Working with Brand Analytics, we noticed interesting feature Runet: VKontakte replaces for most Russians not only Facebook, but also Twitter. Perhaps that is why it occupies a leading position in terms of the number of users in Russia. Let's look at the numbers.

The official VKontakte statistics, in case anyone doesn’t remember, looks like this:

  • The site has more than 200 million registered users.
  • More than 47,000,000 visitors visit the site every day.
  • About 2,500,000,000 pages are opened daily.
  • Approximately 67% of visitors live in Russia.
  • 25% of visitors from Russia live in Moscow, 13% in St. Petersburg.
  • More than 67% of site users are over 25 years old.

These figures are well known, but we cannot fail to mention them. However, marketers and business analysts are certainly more interested in numbers showing user activity on the Internet.

User activity in publications

One of the most useful metrics is the number of daily user publications - posts and comments.

For VKontakte, this number is 2.5 million public messages from 1.2 million users daily.

That is, only 2.5% of the network’s daily audience are externally active.

Number of public text messages VKontakte is growing monthly. If at the end of last year the number of published messages was about 2.2 million, now it is already approaching 3 million per day.

User activity by hour

The number of VKontakte publications is approximately the same regardless of the day of the week, which cannot be said about the time of peak user activity during the day. For example, on Wednesday, April 3, an increase in activity is observed from 8 to 10 am, followed by a slight decline, and peaks occur at 12 noon and 9 pm. This picture is typical for all weekdays.

And on Saturday, April 6, the number of publications is approximately the same throughout the day, and the only decline occurs in the early morning - from four to eight o'clock.

It is also interesting that the number of comments on posts remains almost unchanged and this number is not large. It is not surprising that in this situation, users who leave publications on VKontakte find every comment so important and pleasant. After all, we all love attention to our own person. Therefore, the company’s response to even the most negative review left by a user on his VKontakte wall usually evokes positive emotions.

The number of messages on Russian-language Twitter is almost twice as large as VKontakte and amounts to about 6 million messages per day, but the daily number of unique authors is only 600 thousand people.

When studying mentions of various brands in Russian-language social media, we found that users leave approximately the same number of reviews about companies, products and services on VKontakte and Twitter. The ratio varies depending on the business area, but both resources always lead in the number of messages and comments with approximately an equal number of mentions on them.

If in the West, social media users prefer to share emotions, momentary impressions, events and other short messages on Twitter, then we really love VKontakte.

Remember that even your most successful public page on VKontakte cannot reach your entire audience on this social network. networks. And despite the growing popularity of Twitter, brands working with reputation in social media should not forget about monitoring and analyzing user messages on VKontakte to successfully combat negativity, obtain insights for forming a promotion strategy and preparing high-quality and effective content.

Good luck and a positive reputation!

The social network VKontakte is the most popular in Russia. She has long bypassed such networks as Odnoklassniki, Moi Mir and various other lesser-known Russian analogues. In addition, in terms of the number of registered Russian users, VKontakte surpasses even the world's largest social network, Facebook.

Every day tens of thousands of people register on VKontakte, and these are people not only from Russia. The social network is becoming increasingly popular abroad, and not only in Russian-speaking countries. VKontakte has a tool that allows you to track the total number of users, which will be discussed in this article.

How to find out how many people are registered on VKontakte

For curious users, developers social network VKontakte provides a complete catalog of all the people who are registered on it. At the time of writing this article, there are more than 445 million such people.

Please note: Even by the total number of users, you can understand that VKontakte is popular not only in Russia. As you know, the approximate population of Russia fluctuates around 145-147 million people. The social network VKontakte has 3 times more registered users.

To see full list users who are registered on VKontakte need to follow the link to the catalog:

On the page you will see convenient catalog, in which users are divided into a million people, depending on the order in which they were registered on the social network.

Please note: Finding out the order in which your page was registered on a social network is quite simple. To do this you need to determine the numbers, which is serial number.

To view the people registered at a particular time, click on the corresponding millionth interval. Next you will see a division of 10 thousand people. Select the segment you are interested in.

Next you will be taken to a page where users are grouped into groups of 100 people. Select the group you are interested in.

On the next page you can see users who were registered under a particular serial number on the social network.

Please note: In the list next toID the name is immediately displayed. If necessary, you can go to the user's page by clicking on it.

It is worth noting that the number of VKontakte users is increasing literally every second. During the writing of this article, several thousand new accounts were registered on the social network. It is important to remember that not every user profile on the VKontakte social network is an individual person. Some people have two, three or even more accounts. Also, if you look carefully this catalog, you will notice that many of the pages presented in it have not existed for a long time, but they remain in the database.

Important: As you know, 7 months after the social network VKontakte completely erases the user’s account without the possibility of recovery. Despite this, given user can be found in this list in a directory from where it is not permanently deleted. However, no information will be displayed on its page.

In this post I will provide statistics on the data that users of the social network VKontakte indicated in their profiles. The cut also contains an answer to a question that interests many: how many active users are there on this social network? And, of course, a few words about how all this was put together.

Background

It all started when I read the habratopic. As you know, there is nothing to do during a session, so I decided to learn C# and get acquainted with the VKontakte API.

Statistics collection process

Not all ids are valid: some users have been deleted, beautiful rooms were blocked. To obtain a list of valid ids, it was decided to use the directory, carefully made for search engines.

The library was used to parse the catalog. The process is quite trivial; I see no point in describing it in detail.

The list of valid ids as of June 18, 2011 contains 94 072 230 ID out of 139,132,951 possible, that is, they are valid 67,6% .

Distribution of valid ids
(how many valid out of every million)

So, we have a list of valid ids, we need to get profiles from it. To do this, we make a request to https://api.vkontakte.ru/method/getProfiles (one of the few methods that do not require authorization and are not subject to the limit of three requests per second) with uids parameters, where we specify a list of 750 id (api allows a thousand, but when requesting profiles of recent users, the requested address becomes too long), and fields, where we indicate all possible fields (uid, first_name, last_name, nickname, sex, bdate, city, country, timezone, photo,
photo_medium,photo_big,photo_rec,contacts,home_phone,mobile_phone,education,
university, university_name, faculty, faculty_name, graduation, rate, counters).

Executing requests in one thread only loads the channel by 100 KB/s, so I split the execution into 94 threads, each tasked with loading a million profiles.

At that time, I did not take into account that the VKontakte server does not always return the correct answer, so not all profiles were received. But 0.3% of profiles ended with an error, which is not significant for statistics.

All received profiles in JSON take 45 GB.

Since statistics for all accounts, including those who abandoned their profile two years ago and spammers, few people are interested in, it was decided to obtain a list of all active users. To do this, cyclically in 20 threads (to guarantee that all 10 megabits/s are filled) we make requests to the same getProfiles for 750 users, but this time we request only the online field. At each iteration, we take a list of users who were not seen on the network at the previous iteration. This stage lasted for 17 days (June 21 - July 7, no further technical reasons) to ensure that you capture the vast majority of active users. Due to the insufficient channel width, each user was checked every one and a half to three hours.

As we can see, the increase in active users has become small enough that they can be neglected.

What would you like to do

  • Get a more accurate list of active users.
Unfortunately, with my current channel this is not possible in a reasonable time.
  • Get more detailed information: number of friends, albums, photos, videos...
To do this, you need to make one request per user, which, taking into account the limit of three requests per second, will take about a year.
  • Build a social graph and design it beautifully.
Taking into account the recent opening of the friends list, this can be done. But again, there is a limit of three requests per second. According to my calculations, to completely clog a 10-megabit channel and download everything (about a terabyte) in 8.9 days, you will need 41 accounts. Also, don’t forget about computing power - to calculate the shortest distance from each user to each will require 10^24 iterations, which is a bit much.

All diagrams are prepared in Microsoft Excel.
