Setting a PIN code. Instructions: how to set a short PIN code to log in instead of a Microsoft account password

During the installation of Windows 10 on a computer, you are voluntarily/forced to come up with a PIN code to log into your account. You won't be able to skip or ignore this setup step, but luckily, you can remove that annoying pin code later. Although I would not recommend leaving your computer unprotected if you have any important data stored there. But this is a completely separate topic, and today we will find out how to remove PIN and password in Windows 10.

How to remove PIN code in Windows 10

You can, of course, remove the PIN code in Windows 10 in different ways (although this is not a fact, I just don’t rule it out). But I'll show you how I did it. You should like this method because it is simple and straightforward.

However, it is worth reminding you once again that by removing the PIN code from your computer, you leave it practically defenseless. On the other hand, if you are sure that no one else except you will have access to it, then why not? But you can save a little time by not entering your PIN code every time you turn it on.

Step-by-step instructions on how to remove a PIN code inWindows 10:

We figured out the PIN code, but there is one more small nuance. Now Windows 10 will ask you for your account password at startup. And a password, by the way, is even less pleasant and time-consuming to enter than a PIN code. Therefore, next we will show you how to disable the password when logging in in Windows 10.

How to disable password in Windows 10

Before you disable your password in Windows 10, make sure you have it written down somewhere or remember it well. Because if you rarely use a password, you can easily forget it. And then, when you need it to confirm some settings changes in your Microsoft account, you will not be able to remember the password. Of course, it can be restored, but this is an extra hassle that no one likes.

Disable passwordWindows 10 when logging in:

  1. To get started, press Windows + R. In this case, Windows is the key on your keyboard with the Windows logo on it.
  2. In the window that appears, enter the phrase netplwiz to bring up the account settings item we need.
  3. Directly in the “User Accounts” settings window, uncheck the “Require username and password” checkbox.

Next, click OK and restart your computer to make sure everything is applied. Oh yes, I almost forgot, to apply these settings, you will need to enter your password two more times to confirm that you are the one currently controlling the computer.

Personally, everything worked out for me. I'm almost sure you do too. Now Windows 10 will not ask you to enter your password or PIN when you turn on your computer. If something went wrong for you, write in the comments below, we’ll try to figure it out. If you managed to mess up very badly, then use it to return your operating system to its previous state.

As we all know, Microsoft has combined all its services into one single account, which has greatly simplified the work with applications, programs and services for many of us.

Today, in order to log into the system, read incoming letters, upload a file to the OneDrive cloud storage and even log into your Skype messenger account, you just need to remember one single login and password, with which the user has access to all the above and other proprietary “ Microsoft chips.

It would seem that all this is cool. In principle, this is how it is. However, there is one huge disadvantage, especially one that terribly infuriates those people who have a long and rather complex password for their Microsoft account.

And it really infuriates you when the computer/laptop/tablet turns on or comes out of sleep mode. After all, every time we turn on our workhorse, we have to enter a password.

There are two ways out of this situation. The first is to disable the password requirement. The second is based on entering a short PIN code consisting of numbers, instead of a long password.

But unfortunately, the first option is not suitable for everyone, and now I will try to briefly explain why. For example, I have a Surface RT tablet, a PC, and a netbook. They all work for G8. And when I leave home, I try not to leave the computer on, because someone else might be using it. There was once a case when my nephews came to me (and I didn’t have a password), then they clicked on me with anything, deleted information that was extremely important to me, and much more. I think many of you are familiar with this situation. About the same situation happened with the tablet. If you remove the password, then everyone can take and read, for example, my correspondence in various social networks. networks, because almost all the applications I use are on the start screen. Of course, I don’t want my correspondence to be read by third parties. Therefore, until now, all Windows devices used by many people had a password, which, frankly, I didn’t really want to enter every time, but I was forced to do it, just like you. But, a few days earlier, I learned that this could be avoided.

The second option is to replace the long password with a short PIN code. That is, if you set this PIN code, you will use it to log in to the system, and not your Microsoft account password. Now, I will try to explain and show in screenshots how to do this. The instructions are quite simple and will not take much of your time. It will take you literally a couple of minutes to do everything.

First of all, on the desktop of your device, call up the “Charm bar”, through which we will go to the parameters (you can do this differently).

Then, on the left we will see a small menu, here you need to select the item called “Accounts”.

In the next step, you will need to select the “Login Options” tab.

After this, a window will appear in which you will need to enter the existing password for your MS account in the appropriate line. Done? Great.

Once you have entered your password correctly, a window will appear asking you to enter your PIN. Enter the PIN twice and click the “Done” button. Just make sure you don't forget it.

Great, as we can see, the PIN code for logging into the system has been set successfully (this is evidenced by the buttons: Change and Delete).

Now let's check if it works. To do this, go to the start screen, you know how to do this without me. In the upper right corner we find our nickname/name, which is located next to the avatar, click and see a small drop-down menu. Click the "Exit" button, but before you do this, you will need to close and also save all open documents. So, click “Logout”, you log out of the system as usual.

Now, we will need to log in again (most likely, after logging out you will see a background image, as well as the time and date), press any button, after which your avatar should appear, as well as the line in which you previously entered the password, but Now instead of a password you are asked to enter a PIN code. Enter the pin you set and return to the system.

As you can see, everything is very simple. I hope that my short instructions on setting a PIN code in Windows 8.x will be useful to you.

For most, a phone or tablet is no longer just a device for accessing the Internet or a way to contact someone, but also a device that stores your personal information: photos, videos, bank card information, contacts, social network passwords, etc. And each of us wondered how to protect this data, one of the simplest ways is setting a password on your phone or tablet. Password protection is a compromise between convenience and security; you choose the type of password and regulate its complexity. In this article, I will show in detail what types of passwords exist for the Android OS and how to set them.

There are several types of passwords in Android:

1) Password;

4) Face recognition.

To choose one of the methods, open the "Settings" menu.

Select "Lock Screen", on some device models you need to go to "Security".

I propose to analyze each of the methods, and start with the safest ones.

Set a password on Android.

This method is the best way to ensure security for accessing information on a smartphone/tablet, since you can come up with a very complex password that will be incredibly difficult to hack/guess.

Select "Password".

Create and enter a password using numbers, letters (capitals, uppercase) and special letters. signs.

The minimum password should contain a minimum of 4 characters, a maximum of 17. There is little in the password that limits you and it is quite easy to come up with a really complex password. The only thing to consider:

a) Do not forget the specified password;

b) Please note that it must be entered every time you unlock the device and entering 17 characters takes quite a long time.

Setting a PIN code on a smartphone/tablet.

Another way to secure your mobile device is to use a PIN code. This method is less secure because it involves using only numbers in the password.

Select "PIN code" from the list of methods.

Installing a graphic key.

Another way to secure your gadget is to install a pattern key. This method is quite convenient to use, since you need to select a pattern as a password. Its disadvantage is that with standard 9 points, this method provides 389,122 combinations, which today is not so much.

Select "Pattern Key".

The minimum requirement is to connect 4 points.

Please re-enter.

Face recognition as a phone/tablet unlocker.

This method, it would seem, will be a standard and it is almost impossible to hack it, since all faces, like fingerprints, are unique. But bypassing such unlocking is quite simple; to do this, you need to have a photo of the owner of the mobile device, and today almost any photo can be obtained from social networks, Instagram and other services. There are variations using the face and voice, but such a combination also does not complicate the hacking process much. Plus, you must not forget that you may find yourself in a dark room or in a place where it will be extremely inconvenient to bring the gadget to your face.

Smart Lock feature in Android.

Starting with version 5 of Android, the Smart Lock feature appeared, which can make access to the device easier. What is Smart Lock? You specify the conditions under which a password, PIN code or pattern code will not block your phone/tablet. What conditions can be used:

1) Reliable devices. They can be a Bluetooth watch, a Bluetooth speakerphone in a car, or an NFC tag in a car. For example, if the watch is near you, then unlocking the phone/tablet is not required.

2) You can specify a geographic location where a password is not required, such as home, place of work, etc.

4) Physical contact. The mobile device will be unlocked as long as it remains in contact with you (in your hands, pocket, bag).

Naturally, in order to use certain conditions, it is necessary to use the appropriate sensors (GSM, take a photo, connect a Bluetooth watch, etc.).

We must admit that such a function will be extremely convenient if you actively use your phone or tablet. But keep in mind that each of the conditions leaves a small loophole for attackers.

With each new version of Windows, new features try to improve usability in a variety of ways. Windows 10 is rapidly growing in popularity thanks to its innovative security features, and among these security options there is a new feature - setting a PIN code.

You can enter a numeric PIN or a sequence of gestures in a picture, or if you have the necessary hardware, you can use the Windows Hello service, which supports biometric authentication methods, such as fingerprint scanning, facial recognition, and iris recognition. In this article, we will show you how to set a PIN for your Windows 10 account.

Why using a PIN improves security

If a password has been compromised in any way, the unauthorized person who was able to log in will gain access to other platforms tied to the same password. On the other hand, if the PIN is compromised, the unauthorized person only has access to one device. An attacker will not be able to use the PIN to authorize other devices linked to the account.

In addition, a person must be physically present near the device to enter a PIN, but a password is a completely different story. If someone steals your computer, they won't be able to log in unless they know the PIN. Also, keep in mind that the PIN authentication method is essential if you want to take advantage of the advanced security features that Windows Hello provides, such as fingerprint scanning and iris recognition.

In addition, it is easier to enter a PIN on touchscreen devices such as tablets.

Open the Settings app and select the Accounts section. Then select the “Login Options” tab and click the “Add” button in the PIN section.

If you are prompted for a password, enter your local account password and click “OK.”

If you are using a Microsoft account. then enter your Microsoft account password and click “Login”. After entering your password to confirm your identity, enter the numbers in the dialog box. The minimum length of a PIN code is 4 characters (numbers 0-9, letters and special characters are not allowed), but the maximum length of a PIN code is not limited. If you want to check the entered numbers, click the icon on the right side of the PIN input field. In this case, when you click the icon, the specified characters will be displayed.

The only requirement for selecting a PIN is a minimum length of 4 digits. There are no restrictions on complexity or maximum length. Here are a few considerations for choosing a PIN:

  • Using more characters will reduce the likelihood of your PIN being guessed, but make sure you can enter the PIN quickly and accurately or you will gain minimal benefit over using a password.
  • Using a simple PIN (0000, 0123, 1111, etc.) increases the likelihood of it being solved. Use random numbers.
  • The use of PIN codes from bank accounts or credit cards should be avoided. Also, avoid using the same PIN on different devices.

Open the Settings app and select the Accounts section. Then select the “Login Options” tab and click the “Change” button in the PIN section.

Enter your current PIN, enter the required numbers in the New PIN field, and then click OK.

If you are unable to sign in to your Windows account using your PIN, you will be prompted to click the Sign-in Options link. After this, you are offered all possible login methods that were pre-configured: graphic password, PIN, Windows Hello and regular password.

Open the Settings app and select the Accounts section. Then select the “Login Options” tab and click the “I forgot my password” link in the PIN section.

Enter your account password and continue setting up a new PIN. Remember that when you boot into Safe Mode, you will need to log in using your regular password; other login options are not allowed. So, setting up a PIN is quite easy, and if you haven't set up a PIN on your device yet, do it right now.

Find My iPhone is a great way to protect your iPhone if it's lost or stolen. However, the SIM card remains at risk. Anyone can use the funds on your SIM card by making calls, sending messages and using the mobile Internet.

Of course, you can go to the operator and block the number, but it is not always possible to do this in a timely manner, and by that time the funds may already be completely spent. To avoid this, you should set a PIN on your iPhone.

How to do it?

  1. Go to “Settings” - “Phone” - SIM-PIN.
  2. We create a new PIN code, it can include from 4 to 8 digits.
  3. Click “Finish”.
  4. If you have previously set a PIN code, you should first enter the current one and only then the new one.

What did this give us in the end?

Now, every time you restart your iPhone, you will be prompted for a PIN in addition to your regular password. The same thing will happen if you insert our SIM card into another phone.

The most important thing is not to forget your PIN, because after several attempts to enter it unsuccessfully, the SIM card will be blocked and a PUK code will be required to unlock it.

You cannot change the PUK, and you have ten attempts to enter it. If the PUK code has not been saved, then in this case only replacing the SIM, which can be done at the operator’s showroom, will help. This service is provided free of charge, and the balance, number, tariff and connected services will be available on the new card.

However, the pros definitely outweigh the cons. The code will only have to be entered when rebooting, but in return we get complete security for the safety of our funds in case of loss or theft of the iPhone.
