On the one hand, I liked the large load of the LG F12U1HBS4 (7 kg), the presence of accelerated washing modes, and I was impressed by the work of the “6 care movements” technology. Externally the car is very interesting. But there were still questions about one of the steam modes, and the control panel seemed too sensitive. Plus, the clearly “geeky” Smart diagnosis feature (based on Tag On technology - remote detection and correction of errors in the operation of the washing machine through a program on a smartphone) works only with the Android platform.

What I liked

I liked the design - I was greeted by the clothes. The model is quite new, but has already received an award for its appearance - Design Award 2015. What stands out is the large darkened hatch with chrome trim - clearly a design element, since the front opening for loading laundry is quite standard in diameter.

And the control panel is completely touch-sensitive. No buttons, not a single rotary dial. The number of different luminous icons and inscriptions perhaps resembles the dashboard in an airplane cockpit. We like. Very modern, “smartphone-like” if you like. And boldly. After all, the classic “twist handles” of washing machines still have a lot of fans.

The work of the “6 movements of care” technology is clearly visible. They specifically tracked and observed. In direct contrast to the usual rotation of the drum - it performs almost acrobatic tricks. The number of movements, their amplitude, speed, frequency of algorithm changes, and all this is related to the selected type of fabric. LG was the first to implement this approach to washing in its washing machines. And he fully deserves the title “intellectual.” Competitors are only now catching up (for example, Digital Motion technology from Hotpoint: up to 10 reel rotation algorithms, within one program, if necessary).

Not very dirty items can be washed in this washing machine and washed on short cycles. That is, use them for daily washing. Moreover, we are talking not only about an hourly TurboWash, but also about a half-hour program and even about washing in 14 minutes. Naturally, you need to control the load: you definitely won’t be able to wash 7 kg of laundry well in a quarter of an hour, but you can do a couple of things.

No complaints about how it copes with its main task. We never took out poorly washed items from it: we washed all sorts of things, with varying degrees of soiling. There are no powder residues on things, no allergies because of this - we carefully checked this point, bearing in mind that we also encountered the opposite (several years ago, including in cars from this manufacturer). Steam in symbiosis with water works well and copes well. Plus, of course, the ability to assign an additional rinse.

She washes very quietly. Moreover, even without activating a special “quiet” (night) cycle. From the bathroom, even with the door open, you can hardly hear it at all, including during the spin cycle, and if you close the door, you definitely won’t hear a sound (but when the wash is finished, there will be a sound signal).

What raised questions

The “Refresh” steam mode takes about 20 minutes in the LG F12U1HBS4. This is a kind of washing without water. Just steam and your things. It is needed, the manufacturer reports, in order to remove foreign odors and quickly restore the freshness of an almost clean shirt or blouse once worn.

You can literally hear the steam treatment happening. But at the end of the day, sometimes we received things that were a little damp and you couldn’t put them on right away. However, in fact, unpleasant odors were removed, from cigarettes, for example, from a fire, and the smell of sweat.

Steam is based on water. It becomes one when heated. Therefore, it is logical that after exposure to it, things remain a little damp and need to be dried. We also produce washing machines with dryers, where after steam treatment the item can be dried without removing it from the device.

But a couple of times the smell of heated rubber appeared. That is, we observed an effect that sometimes occurs in some shower cabins with the “sauna” function: there is steam, it’s hot, but the rubber odor makes the mode meaningless. To be fair, we note that we “washed with steam” 20 times in a month, and we only encountered this “rubber” situation the first two times. And we understood why - the manufacturer recommends, just to get rid of the so-called new car smell (it smells like rubber, even burning, due to “unbroken” plastic and rubber parts), before the first wash, run the “Cotton” cycle at a temperature of 60°C , with half the amount of detergent. This is in the instructions - read it carefully before using the machine.

And here's another thing. There were no significant malfunctions in the operation of the washing machine. But a couple of times the Smart diagnosis remote problem recognition system reported an error Ue (unbalance of laundry in the drum). Great, everything works, but if you have an iOS smartphone, nothing will work. Because Smart diagnosis is based on NFC technology, which means only Android. NFC is also available in Apple products, but in a greatly reduced form; it is also available in Windows mobile devices, but apparently the Koreans do not believe in their future.

LG F12U1HBS4 is a beautiful looking and modern model, with interesting and useful washing technologies. It has many more pros than cons. Here you have a load of 7 kg - very good for a narrow format. And the washing quality is unquestionable. The presence of many programs for different things, the ability to reload washing cycles into the machine’s memory. We especially note several fast cycles, including TurboWash - washing in 59 minutes with a full load (and it will be in 49 - this is the next stage).

But with “washing without water” (a separate steam cycle), you need to be careful - understand that after such steam treatment you cannot wear the item right away, you still need to dry it. That is, you need to set aside some time for this. It is also better to unplug the machine - the sensitivity of the control sensors is too high: even if you slightly touch the front panel, you can start washing or add an unnecessary cycle to it (happened a couple of times).

Many of the technologies that are developed are instantly patented and become a kind of “calling card” of a particular brand. One of the most common functions that is becoming more and more popular is the “STEAM” function. Sometimes it turns out to be truly irreplaceable, and sometimes incomprehensible. This happens due to the fact that different manufacturers use this function in different ways, but the manufacturers and developers of LG have advanced the most in this matter. It is important to understand that Spa Steam technology does not provide for the use of the “Refresh” program, which lasts only 20 minutes.

The essence of the Spa Steam technology itself is also significantly different. The washing machine is not equipped with a special steam generator, and the water is heated by the heating element of the washing machine itself. The water that must be converted into steam is located in a special tank that holds about 4 liters. When heated, the temperature in this tank reaches 80°C. Despite some differences between Spa Steam technology and True Steam, it is no less useful and thanks to it we can also take advantage of all the benefits of the steam cycle in the washing machine.
