How much RAM does iPhone 7 plus have? How much RAM does an iPhone have?

Previously, when buying a new iPhone, we didn’t think much about the amount of RAM in it. Telephones did not evolve as quickly and there was simply no need for it.

Then the iPhone line became larger, technology moved little steps forward, and now, when buying new smartphone We immediately have a question: “How much RAM does it have?”

All programs have evolved along with smartphones, and now it will be difficult to run modern software on an old phone, because the lack of resources will immediately tell about itself.

What is the amount of RAM on iPhone?

The main advantage of all iPhones has always been the rational use of resources. iOS always tries to get the most out of your phone so that you can use it comfortably.

But no matter how you look at it, after a couple of years you already understand that multitasking is no longer the same and programs do not launch so quickly. When choosing a new gadget, I suggest checking the characteristics of the desired purchase.

RAM in the first generation iPhone, 3, 3GS

The first Apple phones made an incredible breakthrough at that time. Everything that was inside the device was something special and seemed incredible.

In 2007, the needs in the software sense were completely different and we did not need so many resources to be satisfied with the performance of our gadget.

  • first generation: 128 MB EDRAM;
  • 3 : 128 MB EDRAM;
  • 3GS: 256 MB EDRAM.

Today this number seems incredibly small, but then there weren’t so many applications and the phone had completely different requirements for running programs.

These oldies are still used today. It was this line that was released during Jobs’s lifetime, and at that time it was simply a breakthrough in all directions.

When the iPhone first came out, absolutely everyone wanted it. Its design is simply incredible and is now one of the most iconic phones Apple has ever released.

  • 4 : 512 MB eDRAM;
  • 4S: 512 MB eDRAM.

Despite the same amount of RAM, the second phone is faster due to the processor. In general, even now, through the pain, you can use both phones.

Then we were greeted by a wonderful generation of 4-inch phones. The design was very similar to the previous generation iPhone, but still there was a twist.

The body of the phone has completely changed, making it lighter and more pleasant to hold in your hands. The larger body made it possible to significantly change the filling.

  • 5 : 1 GB LPDDR2;
  • 5S: 1 GB LPDDR2;
  • 5C: 1 GB LPDDR2;
  • S.E.: 2 GB LPDDR3.

Now everything worked even faster and this moment Many smartphone lovers have one of these models. The latest SE model is already an upgrade for those who really love the 5S. Old building, but modern filling.

Now we forget about small screens and now we have real shovels in our hands. Large space in the case allows you to make the contents of iPhones more fun.

We are slowly starting to catch up with the screens of our competitors on Android. But still no one is chasing the amount of RAM.

  • 6 : 1 GB LPDDR3;
  • 6 Plus: 1 GB LPDDR3;
  • 6S: 2 GB LPDDR3;
  • 6S PLUS: 2 GB LPDDR3.

The 6th generation increases the frequency and due to this 1 GB does not look so sad, but with the release of 6S everything starts to fly. And now it's clear that the 6 and 6 Plus were just a warm-up before the release of something bigger.

RAM in iPhone 7, 7 PLUS

This generation's design hasn't moved too far forward, just a few improvements and a couple of new colors. Now the processors have replaced their cores with more.

The cameras have improved noticeably - this has become the highlight of this line. Now we need more RAM and in the end we see this picture.

  • 7 : 2 GB LPDDR4;
  • 7 PLUS: 3 GB LPDDR4.

The dual plus camera forced Apple to insert as much as 3 GB into it. A real killer of competitors is entering the ring and every day it becomes more and more interesting what will happen in the generation with the letter S.

RAM in iPhone 8, 8 PLUS and X (10)

2017 brought as many as three new iPhone models. If the first two are a slightly updated seven, then the anniversary gadget decided to blow up the market with its characteristics, new design and, of course, features.

Although Android smartphones and continue to chase the amount of RAM, Apple remains true to itself and gives preference to proper optimization.

  • 8 : 2 GB LPDDR4;
  • 8 PLUS: 3 GB LPDDR4;
  • 10 : 3 GB LPDDR4.

This year will be remembered for technologies such as Face ID, because it can completely change the whole essence of unlocking gadgets, and security in general. You can also note Animoji and Portrait Lighting.

RAM in iPhone XS (10S), iPhone XS MAX (10S MAX), iPhone XR (10R)

It’s so good that phone sizes have stopped and now they’re just coming up with something new from what already exists.

This is roughly what they did with the iPhone XS MAX. Let's take it iPhone design X+ iPhone sizes 8 PLUS = brand new iPhone XS MAX. In addition, the budget iPhone XR has appeared.

  • XS: 4 GB LPDDR4;
  • XS MAX: 4 GB LPDDR4;
  • XR: 3 GB LPDDR4.

Time goes by and the size of RAM is also growing. According to some tests, the new iPhones are ahead of the iMac. Of course, we were expecting this, but not so soon.

Results

I think this information was very interesting for you and now you will not ask anyone the amount of RAM in any iPhone model.

The amount of RAM is becoming larger every day, but will we use such resources to their full capacity?

Before iPhone release 7 only a few hours left, but none Apple presentation is not complete without a preliminary review from Ming-Chi Kuo, who mixes all the cards for the apple company and practically without errors gives out all the characteristics of the new iPhone. This analyst has been called "the best Apple product guy on the planet." Mr. Kuo shared a list of the 15 most important changes in the iPhone 7. We offer an exclusive list of the characteristics of the “seventh iPhone” from the eminent analyst.

the site notes that forecasts for a relatively new iPhone generation Every year they become more and more accurate. Last week we learned that Apple had decided to ditch the Pro model due to problems with the dual camera lenses. Suppliers, it seems, simply could not guarantee enough components for the manufacturer. Also, thanks to Chinese insiders, prices for the iPhone 7 have become known (however, only for the Chinese market). It's time to make a complete list iPhone specifications 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, based on the opinion of veteran analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

15 Most Important Features and Features of the iPhone 7

  1. New screens True Tone , how in iPad line Pro, with laser proximity sensors for faster response.
  2. New scheme for dividing models by built-in memory capacity: 32, 128 and 256 GB instead of 16, 64 and 128 GB.
  3. Dual 12MP camera(with two lenses and matrices) in the iPhone 7 Plus. One lens is wide-angle, the second is telephoto.
  4. Improved lighting sensors on both new cameras in iPhone 7, allowing you to take better photos in low light.
  5. Four LEDs for LED flash, not two. Added warm and cool colors.
  6. Lack of 3.5 mm jack for headphones.
  7. Headphones Lightning EarPods and adapter from 3.5mm to Lightning included with iPhone 7.
  8. Second built-in speaker and an integrated amplifier for louder, better sound.
  9. iPhone 7 will be protected from water according to the IPX7 standard - both models can survive accidental ingress of water and full immersion for up to 30 minutes. Doesn't reach Galaxy level S7 with its 1.5 m, but very close.
  10. 2 GB random access memory in iPhone 7 and 3 GB of RAM in iPhone 7 Plus.
  11. A10 processor next generation with a frequency of 2.45 GHz and increased power by 20-30%.
  12. 3D Touch 2.0 sensor with more discernible haptic feedback.
  13. The Home button has been replaced with sensory with tactile feedback.
  14. Both iPhone 7 models got rid of antenna strips on the back panel.
  15. Two new colors: deep black (space black, matte) and Piano Black (piano black, glossy). The last one is only for limited quantity models with 256 GB of internal memory. Space gray will not be included in the iPhone 7 color palette.

Key characteristics of iPhone 7: debriefing

Although new colors, less visible antenna stripes, an additional speaker and touch button“Home” - pleasant changes; most potential buyers are interested in updated cameras, the amount of built-in memory and the absence of the usual headphone jack.

Rejection of the headphone jack

A new headphone connection option is practically guaranteed. Apple will have to convince users that the advantages of the new approach outweigh its disadvantages, especially since wireless iPhone charging 7 deprived. In the new generation, the headphones will connect to the same port as the charger.

Cameras and memory

Upgrading the camera in the iPhone 7 along with increasing the amount of built-in memory are also logical changes that complement each other. If Apple is going to position the new generation as smartphones with the world's best cameras, then storing captured photos and videos in high resolution will need more space in internal memory iPhone 7.

More powerful battery

It is interesting that for some reason Ming-Chi Kuo did not comment on the most ambitious battery upgrade in the history of the iPhone - its capacity should increase to 1960 mAh. More powerful battery iPhone 7 allowed us to establish the absence of a standard headphone jack. Increased operating time on a single charge, and this is practically a fact if the capacity has increased, is another factor that helps convince buyers that it is right to abandon the usual connector.

Waterproof, Waterproof iPhone 7

The IPX7 standard assumes that the device can be immersed in water to a depth of up to a meter and for up to half an hour. In other words, the waterproof iPhone 7 is not afraid of falling into a toilet, puddle, sink (provided it does not break), as well as accidental splashes of water, rain, and so on. The same water resistance rating is assigned to the Apple Watch smartwatch.

iPhone 7 seems to be the first Apple smartphone in history that is not afraid of water. Water resistance will allow the new model to compete on equal terms with smartphones from other manufacturers, including the Galaxy S7. The Korean flagship, however, can withstand 30 minutes at a depth of up to one and a half meters, which is slightly better than the supposed water resistance of the iPhone 7.

Indirect evidence of the protection of the new generation of Apple smartphones from water is the invitation to the presentation on September 7th - blurry multi-colored circles out of focus on a black background resemble drops of water. Earlier this year it was also reported that one of Apple's suppliers was working on composite material, repelling water.

It is possible that the iPhone 7 body will be made of a new material rather than metal. The composite likely allowed Apple to make the smartphone not only waterproof, but also “transparent” to radio waves, giving engineers the opportunity to get rid of two spoilers. appearance iPhone 6s cellular antenna strips.

Results of the iPhone 7 characteristics review

Summing up the calculations of analysts, spy photos and insider information, we can conclude that the iPhone 7 will become a transitional model to the new generation of Apple smartphones in 2017. In the anniversary year, when the iPhone turns 10 years old, Apple will probably introduce a revolutionary iPhone with a new body and a lot of innovations, but for now we will have to be content with evolutionary changes - water resistance, an improved camera, double the amount of internal memory, a faster processor and an updated color scheme.

Tomorrow, September 7th, the official premiere of the new generation of smartphones with branded Apple logo. Literally a few hours are left before we know almost everything about new iPhone 7 first hand, i.e. as part of Tim Cook's presentation.

Key specifications of iPhone 7 in list form:

  • Waterproof according to IPX7 standard.
  • New True Tone display (like iPad Pro).
  • Memory 32/128/256 GB.
  • 12-megapixel camera with advanced LED flash; double for the iPhone 7 Plus model.
  • A10 processor, 2/3 GB RAM for 7 and 7 Plus, respectively.
  • Touch-sensitive Home button with haptic feedback.
  • Elimination of the 3.5mm headphone jack.
  • New colors: matte black and glossy.

Other news

The update to the iPhone line this year turned out to be strange. We told you in detail about the iPhone 7 Plus, where we described the situation with the disappearing headset jack, the appearance of a second rear camera, and the new color of the case... In general, the situation with the younger model is similar, but it would be wrong to ignore it completely. Usually we test both new models almost simultaneously, but this time it turned out that it was the iPhone 7 that was in short supply. And just recently we managed to get a copy for quite a long time, allowing us to carefully study all aspects of this gadget.

** our measurement

As we can see, the differences in the characteristics of the iPhone 7 from the iPhone 7 Plus are minimal. In addition to the obvious (dimensions and display size/resolution), this is a smaller amount of RAM (2 GB instead of three for the iPhone 7 Plus), as well as a smaller battery capacity and the absence of a second lens for the camera. At the same time, compared to its immediate predecessor - the iPhone 6s - the new product has slightly less weight (with the same dimensions) and a larger battery capacity.

Let's get acquainted with the smartphone in person and understand how these features affect the user qualities of the model.

Packaging and equipment

The box and equipment of the iPhone 7 are similar to the older model.

Let us remind you that the main thing here is new headphones (with a Lightning connector instead of a 3.5 mm Mini-jack) and an adapter from Lightning to a mini-jack. Thanks to this adapter, you can use your iPhone with traditional headphones or speakers.

Otherwise, everything is the same as before: leaflets, charger (5 V 1 A), lightning cable, stickers and a key for removing the SIM card cradle.

Design

Externally, the new iPhone, like its older brother, is very similar to its predecessor. Dimensions and basic design elements remain unchanged. We tested the golden version, and in this iPhone version 7 is even more difficult to distinguish from the iPhone 6/6s than in the case of the new “black” and “black onyx” colors.

By the way, the “black onyx” option, which was especially scarce in the first days of sales, can now be purchased without problems, but it has its drawbacks, which we wrote about in the article about the iPhone 7 Plus, so this is not an amateur solution. Not everyone likes golden color either, but it is more practical and familiar.

In general, the design of the iPhone 7 is identical to the iPhone 7 Plus. Location of connectors, case shape, moisture resistance, new button Home (sensory, not physical) - everything is the same. Therefore, here we will focus on iPhone comparison 7 with iPhone 6, in order to notice some non-obvious changes.

Firstly, the plastic inserts are now placed differently. They pass only along the edges, without climbing onto the back surface. However, we note that in the case of the golden version they are still too conspicuous. And in this regard, the silver and black versions seem more successful to us.

Secondly, the rear camera is now larger and more convex. But, unlike the iPhone 7 Plus, there is only one. And finally, the third difference is the second row of holes on the bottom edge. However, don't think there's another speaker! Most likely there is a microphone there.

In general, in terms of appearance, the differences between the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 6s are minimal. However, despite this, Apple has not ensured the compatibility of protective accessories. Cases for iPhone 6s will not fit iPhone 7 due to the changed camera eye. This is, of course, a very strange and offensive decision. But new color options are available for iPhone 7 leather cases: almond, “stormy sky” and “blue sea”. We were able to evaluate the last of them live.

It combines rather strangely with the golden color, but you can’t deny this shade a certain charm. It doesn’t seem to be blue, but at the same time it’s not blue either, but something in between. However, here we note the traditional problem of Apple leather cases: they quickly become covered with scratches and lose their presentable appearance. Therefore, if you perceive the case as an element of style, and not just as protection for your smartphone, you should handle it with care.

Summarizing our impressions of the design, we can simply repeat what was said earlier about the iPhone 7 Plus and wish that the next version of the iPhone functional features of the current generation have been preserved (moisture protection, first of all), but the appearance has been updated more significantly.

Screen

Options iPhone screen 7 are no different from those of the iPhone 6s: 4.7-inch diagonal, IPS matrix with a resolution of 1134×750. By modern standards - average parameters.

The editor of the “Monitors” and “Projectors and TV” sections will tell you about the quality of the display. Alexey Kudryavtsev.

The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface that is scratch-resistant. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are better than those of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) screen (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected when the screens are turned off (on the left is Nexus 7, on the right is Apple iPhone 7, then they can be distinguished by size):

The screen of the Apple iPhone 7 is slightly darker (brightness according to photographs is 110 versus 118 for the Nexus 7). The ghosting of reflected objects in the Apple iPhone 7 screen is very weak, this indicates that there is no air gap between the layers of the screen (more specifically, between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS - One Glass Solution type screen). Due to the smaller number of boundaries (glass/air type) with very different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of intense external illumination, but their repair in the case of cracked external glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be replaced. The outer surface of the screen has a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating (effective, much like the Nexus 7), so fingerprints are removed much more easily and appear at a lower speed than with regular glass.

When manually controlling brightness and when displaying a white field in full screen maximum value brightness was about 560 cd/m², the minimum was 4.8 cd/m². The maximum brightness is very high, and, given the excellent anti-glare properties, readability even on a sunny day outdoors will be at a good level. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. In stock automatic adjustment brightness by the light sensor (it is located above the front speaker slot). In automatic mode, as external lighting conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. The operation of this function depends on the position of the brightness adjustment slider - with it the user sets the desired brightness level for the current conditions. If you don’t change anything, then in complete darkness the brightness drops to 2.6 cd/m² (very dark), in illuminated conditions artificial light office (about 550 lux) the screen brightness is set to 120 cd/m² (acceptable), in a very bright environment (corresponding to lighting on a clear day outdoors, but without direct sunlight - 20,000 lux or a little more) rises to 650 cd/m² (even higher than with manual adjustment). We were not entirely satisfied with the result, so in the dark we slightly moved the brightness slider to the right, and for the three conditions indicated above we got 16, 100-170 and 650 cd/m² (ideal). It turns out that the auto-brightness function works adequately, and it is possible to adjust the nature of the brightness change to suit the user's requirements. At any brightness level, there is no significant backlight modulation, so there is no screen flicker.

IN this smartphone matrix is used IPS type. The microphotographs show a typical IPS subpixel structure:

For comparison, you can see the gallery of microphotographs of screens used in mobile technology.

Traditionally, for the iPhone, a lot of dust particles are found in the layer of filler adhesive between the outer glass and the matrix; we won’t even demonstrate this.

The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift even with large viewing deviations from perpendicular to the screen and without inverting shades. For comparison, here are photographs in which the same images are displayed on the screens of the Apple iPhone 7 and Nexus 7, while the brightness of the screens was initially set to approximately 200 cd/m² (over a white field in the entire screen), and the color balance on the camera was forcibly switched to 6500 K There is a white field perpendicular to the screens:

We note good uniformity of brightness and color tone white field.

And a test picture:

Color balance varies slightly, color saturation is normal. Recall that photography can not serve as a reliable source of information about color rendering quality and are provided for illustrative purposes only. In this case, apparently due to the characteristics of the screen’s emission spectrum, the color balance and brightness of colors in the photographs Apple screen iPhone 7 is somewhat different from what is visible to the eye and determined by a spectrophotometer.

Now at an angle of approximately 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:

It can be seen that the colors did not change much on both screens and the contrast remained at a high level.

And a white field:

The brightness at an angle of the screens decreased (by at least 4 times, based on the difference in shutter speed), but in the case of the Apple iPhone 7 the drop in brightness is less. When deviated diagonally, the black field is lightened to a medium degree and acquires a purple tint. The photographs below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is approximately the same!):

And from another angle:

When viewed perpendicularly, the uniformity of the black field is good, although not ideal:

The contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is high - about 1375:1. The response time for the black-white-black transition is 23 ms (12 ms on + 11 ms off). The transition between halftones of gray 25% and 75% (according to the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 30 ms. The gamma curve, constructed using 32 points with equal intervals based on the numerical value of the shade of gray, did not reveal any blockage in either the highlights or the shadows. The power function fitting exponent is 1.76, which is lower than the standard value of 2.2, so the image is slightly brightened. In this case, the real gamma curve noticeably deviates from the power-law dependence:

Color gamut is sRGB:

Let's look at the spectra:

Such spectra are found in top mobile devices ah Sony and other manufacturers. Apparently, this screen uses LEDs with a blue emitter and green and red phosphor (usually a blue emitter and a yellow phosphor), which, in combination with special matrix filters, allows for a wide color gamut. Yes, and the red phosphor apparently uses so-called quantum dots. For a consumer device, a wide color gamut is not an advantage, but significant drawback, since as a result, the colors of images - drawings, photographs and films - oriented to the sRGB space (and the vast majority of them) have an unnatural saturation. This is especially noticeable on recognizable shades, such as skin tones. But unlike many famous and not so famous companies, Apple knows what the color gamut should be, and therefore carefully adjusts it to the sRGB boundaries. As a result, visually the colors have a natural saturation.

This applies to those images that have an sRGB profile or no profile at all. However, native to modern Apple devices (at least iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, iPad Pro 9.7 and MacBook Pro) is the color space Display P3 with slightly richer greens and reds. Space Display P3 based on SMPTE DCI-P3, but has a D65 white point and a gamma curve of approximately 2.2. In addition, the manufacturer states that starting from iOS 9.3 on system level color management is supported, this makes it easier for iOS applications to correctly display images with the specified color profile. Indeed, by supplementing the test images (JPG and PNG files) with the Display P3 profile, we obtained a color gamut wider than sRGB (output in Safari):

Note that the coordinates of the primary colors coincide almost exactly with those specified for the DCI-P3 standard. This coverage is different from Adobe RGB, red in Display P3 slightly more saturated, and green can be considered less saturated:

We look at the spectra in the case of test images with a profile Display P3:

It can be seen that in this case no cross-mixing of components occurs, that is, this color space is native to the Apple iPhone 7 screen. The most important question is whether the support provides Display P3 at least some significant advantage, and doubts are associated primarily with the fact that there is practically no content with a coverage wider than sRGB, and when it appears, it is not a fact that it will be in the variant Display P3, and all current devices will be hopelessly outdated by that time. However, you have to start somewhere, and the wide screen coverage, as well as the color management built into the OS, contribute to this. In the meantime, the content can be created by the user himself, since in photographs with iPhone cameras 7/7 Plus profile is registered Display P3(however, we do not know about the real color gamut of these cameras).

The balance of shades on the gray scale is good, since the color temperature is close to the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) is less than 10, which is considered an acceptable indicator for a consumer device. At the same time, color temperature and ΔE change little from hue to hue - this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of color balance. The nature of the change in values from hue to hue indirectly shows that software color correction is used. (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since color balance there is not very important, and the error in measuring color characteristics at low brightness is large.)

Like the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and iPhone SE, this Apple device there is a function Night Shift, which makes the picture warmer at night (the user specifies how much warmer). A description of why such a correction may be useful is given in the specified article about the iPad Pro 9.7. In any case, when having fun with a tablet or smartphone at night, it is better to reduce the screen brightness to a minimum, but still comfortable level, and only then, to calm your own paranoia, turn the screen yellow with the setting Night Shift.

Let's summarize. The screen has a very high maximum brightness and has excellent anti-glare properties, so the device can be used outdoors without any problems, even on a sunny summer day. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable level. It is also possible to use a mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works adequately. The advantages of the screen include an effective oleophobic coating, the absence of an air gap in the layers of the screen and flicker, good black stability to deviation of the gaze from perpendicular to the screen plane, high contrast, as well as support for the sRGB color gamut (with the participation of the OS) and good color balance. There are no significant shortcomings. On this moment this is probably one of the best displays among all smartphones.

Performance

The iPhone 7, like the iPhone 7 Plus, runs on the new Apple A10 Fusion SoC (we talked about it in detail in iPhone review 7 Plus, so we won't repeat ourselves). However, the RAM capacity of the younger model is less. Let's see how this affects performance!

Let's start with browser tests: SunSpider 1.0.2, Octane Benchmark and Kraken Benchmark. We will also add to our standard set a new browser benchmark, recommended by the creators of SunSpider as a replacement for it. The Safari browser was used.

As we can see, the iPhone 7 not only kept up with the iPhone 7 Plus, but even slightly surpassed it. However, the difference is so small that it can be attributed to measurement error.

Now let's see how the iPhone 7 Plus performs in the comprehensive AnTuTu benchmark (we've recently been using it on iOS) and Geekbench 4, which measures CPU performance.

And here's the first surprise: the iPhone 7 lost heavily to the older iPhone 7 Plus in AnTuTu. Moreover, what’s interesting is that it’s not just about RAM, although it’s about memory scores too. But in the Geekbench 4 processor benchmark, the results were already almost identical.

The last group of benchmarks is dedicated to testing GPU performance. We used 3DMark and GFXBench Metal.

Let us remind you that off-screen tests mean displaying a 1080p image on the screen, regardless of the actual screen resolution. And Onscreen tests mean displaying a picture in the resolution that matches the device screen resolution. That is, Offscreen tests are indicative from the point of view of the abstract performance of the SoC, and Onscreen tests are indicative from the point of view of the comfort of the game on a specific device.

(Apple A10)
GFXBenchmark Manhattan 3.3.1 (1440р) 22.7 fps 18.3 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan 3.1 59.4 fps 26.1 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan 3.1 (Off Screen) 38.8 fps 26.1 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan 59.8 fps 41.1 fps
GFXBenchmark Manhattan (1080p Offscreen) 58.3 fps 41.0 fps

And here's the mystery: iPhone 7 beats iPhone 7 Plus not only in real-resolution tests, which is quite logical, but also in off-screen tests! At the same time, the same version of the program and identical versions of the OS were installed on both smartphones. Miracles, and that’s all!

Here the results are more plausible, although somewhat contradictory, but the difference is not so great, so it is quite possible to say that the rivals are equal.

As a result, we can admit that the iPhone 7, even despite the smaller amount of RAM, is practically not inferior to the iPhone 7 Plus in performance. In most benchmarks, including those using real 3D scenes, it performed similarly to the older model. Of course, we can assume that one day the user will feel a lack of RAM. But this will not happen soon, but for now you can not worry too much about the numbers in the technical specifications and choose between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus without regard to the performance parameter.

Cameras

iPhone 7 doesn't have a home screen iPhone chips 7 Plus - the second rear camera. However, unlike the iPhone 6s, there is optical stabilization when shooting video (in the previous generation only the iPhone 6s Plus had it), and other camera parameters (front and rear) are identical to the iPhone 7 Plus.

Now let's evaluate the photo capabilities. Below are examples of pictures taken with the rear camera with comments from our expert. Anton Solovyov.

It looks like the camera didn't get any better with the firmware update. She still often makes mistakes with focus, and the pictures are full of artifacts, albeit small ones. However, the camera can also take good pictures, but you have to try hard to get good pictures. Based on the results of bench shooting, the camera did not improve the results too much, but now the curve on the graph is quite consistent with reality. Previously, despite the low actual resolution, the images were clean and neat. Now they are lost among the pictures of top smartphones, and are noticeably inferior to some. As it turns out, the camera is inferior even to the older model. Well, perhaps all is not lost yet. And in any case, the camera will cope with many scenes even in its current form.

Autonomous operation and heating

As with the iPhone 7 Plus, Apple has kept the iPhone 7's battery life similar to the previous generation. In real everyday use this is about a day, at active use- even less.

In 3D games, the smartphone is completely discharged in seven and a half hours, which is very good and indicates the high energy efficiency of the SoC, but in reading modes and playing videos from YouTube, the result is not much better, that is, the battery is consumed not so much due to the load on the SoC, but due to the screen. And here everything depends on the small battery capacity.

Below is a thermal image rear surface obtained after two consecutive runs (about 10 minutes of work) of the Basemark Metal test:

It can be seen that the heating is highly localized in the upper right part of the device, which apparently corresponds to the location of the SoC chip. According to the heat chamber, the maximum heating was 44 degrees (at an ambient temperature of 24 degrees), which is 3 degrees more than in iPhone case 7Plus.

conclusions

Let's not be afraid to play the role of Captain Obvious and simply admit: the iPhone 7 is one of the best compact smartphones on the market. Highest performance (despite only 2 GB of RAM), an excellent screen (albeit not impressive with the specifications), water resistance, a camera with optical stabilization (albeit with imperfect firmware, which is evident when taking photos) - these are the main advantages of iPhone 7.

On the other hand, there is nothing revolutionary in this model, and due to the lack of a second rear camera, it turned out to be even more boring than its “big brother”. Therefore, upgrading to it from an iPhone 6s or even an iPhone 6 definitely does not make sense (if you are generally satisfied with how your current smartphone works). Well, maybe because of the moisture resistance. However, we hope that future iPhone models will retain water resistance, and in addition to it they will receive many other interesting innovations.

Technologies in our time are developing so rapidly that even having bought the latest smartphone model right now, a person cannot be sure that in a month something newer, modern and technologically advanced will not appear on the market. However, this is not a reason to think that a high-quality device purchased even a year ago will quickly become outdated and will not perform its basic functions.

Modern smartphones are a real breakthrough in the field of IT. And this is especially true for everyone’s favorite company, Apple. Their phones have remained relevant, stylish and productive for many years, despite the fact that the company tries to delight users with a new iPhone model every year.

At the moment, Apple's flagship is the iPhone 7. It is worth noting that iPhones occupy the most significant share of the smartphone market today. Very few companies in this area are able to provide even the slightest competition to Apple. Therefore, it is logical to conclude that when buying an iPhone 7, a person gets the most advanced gadget on the market.

About the functions of a modern phone

Today, even in provincial cities, it is very rare to meet a person who would say that he only needs a telephone for calls. There are fewer and fewer such people every year, as the world is changing, and along with it, people’s attitudes to the functions of various things are changing.

For modern man The smartphone serves not only as a means of making calls. He does more great amount functions that were previously simply unavailable for mobile devices due to the insufficient level of technology development.

Such powerful gadgets, in terms of technical characteristics, as the iPhone 7 are quickly becoming an indispensable thing for a person, due to the wide functionality that they provide.

From your iPhone you can view email, watch videos in high quality, take incredible pictures, use millions, and so on. Full list It will turn out to be quite large, so there is no point in listing it.

Types of iPhone – series, configurations

In order to choose the right iPhone for yourself, you need to understand the features of each model. If we are talking about numbered versions, for example, iPhone 5, iPhone 6 and iPhone 7, it is worth noting that these are completely different phones, both from a technical point of view and from a user perception point of view. They use technologies from different generations, so choosing which is better and which is worse makes no sense.

It's the same with the S versions. Essentially, the S version of the iPhone is a slightly improved version of the previous generation, but in this case new model really becomes more powerful and productive in technical terms, and sometimes acquires new functions.

Also important characteristic iPhone is the amount of memory. It is worth noting that it does not affect the performance of the device in any way and does not provide any new functions. This raises a logical question for users: why will a 256 GB iPhone in a store be several thousand rubles more expensive than, for example, a 32 GB version?

In fact, there is nothing strange here, and in order to answer this question, we need to understand in more detail how people can use the iPhone 7.

What kind of memory does the iPhone 7 have and how to use it?

Despite the fact that the performance and technical characteristics of the device do not change with increasing memory, it is still worth paying attention to, and in order not to make a mistake with the choice, you need to proceed from how the iPhone will be used. Various versions have their advantages, so we should talk about them in more detail.

32 GB version

The most minimal iPhone version 7 in terms of memory capacity is the 32 GB model. It is worth noting that it is not available in all colors. New iPhone received five different colors, of which the “black onyx” color caused the greatest excitement. It is unknown for what reasons, but it was for this model that Apple decided not to release a 32 GB version.

Also interesting is the fact that the iPhone 7 was the first Apple release in which 32 GB was the minimum size. In the previous generation, the minimum amount of memory was 16 GB.

The version with such a capacity is worth paying attention to those people who do not use the phone as a professional tool, but simply use it for Everyday life. A capacity of 32 GB is quite enough to download the music you need, install all the necessary applications and store a personal archive of photos. Although in some cases the user needs more space and 32 GB may not be enough. There is a way out of this situation, but we will talk about this later.

128 GB version

Another unexpected decision by Apple in 2016 was the abandonment of the 64 GB version in the new iPhone 7. For many users, the transition from 32 to 128 GB seemed very abrupt. Indeed, there are a huge number of people for whom 32 GB is not enough, but they also don’t want to overpay for 128.

In fact, this decision is quite rational and justified. The 128 GB version will be ideal for users who are used to not worrying about the amount of memory and downloading everything they need to their phone. Nowadays, the 64 GB version would not provide such an opportunity, as progress moves forward, applications are improved, become more complex and functional, and, therefore, take up more space in the device’s memory. Therefore, 128 GB is an ideal option for ordinary person.

256 GB version

In 2016 year Apple For the first time, they decided to release a compact device with such a huge amount of memory. The main reason for this was the presence of the seventh iPhone large quantity functions that did not exist before and which require significant capacity of the device.

It is necessary to understand that for regular user The 256 GB version is really overkill. A person who does not use an iPhone as a professional device risks simply overpaying for extra gigabytes that he will not use. In this case, it is better to choose the 32 or 128 GB version.

It’s a completely different matter if a person needs not just a modern phone, but a truly professional gadget. It can be used, for example, for shooting 4K video, which takes up a huge amount of memory when saved, or installing professional applications, which App Store a huge number, for a variety of needs.

The price for the 256 GB version will be the highest, but it is completely justified for people who need a professional tool, and not just a good smartphone.

What to do if there is not enough memory in iPhone 7?

Many users are faced with the problem that the device's memory is full, and they can no longer download and install the applications they need. The way out of this situation is very simple: you need to remove unused applications.

Perhaps some users will be discouraged by the fact that it is impossible to increase the memory on an iPhone using technical intervention. In fact, it is probably possible, but it is not rational for the average person. If you need a lot of memory, it is better to immediately buy the appropriate version, or make sure that the memory does not become clogged unnecessary games and applications.

Exist special programs, which allow you to clear the device’s memory and keep it in good shape. They are very easy to find on the App Store.

Real reviews of Apple iPhone 7

  1. I bought myself a 32 gig version and I can’t say that I miss it . Naturally, I don’t record hours of video in 4K, and I don’t download movies to the device’s memory, so this version is quite enough for me, as for all people who just need a smartphone for everyday life.
  2. I can say one thing about the 128 GB version - there is enough memory for any person with a reserve . I have never had the phone slow down, even though I have a lot of applications installed. All photos and videos fit without problems, so this version turned out to be very convenient for me.
  3. I often shoot long videos in high quality, and in truth, it was this fact that largely pushed me to buy a new iPhone. The camera is simply incredible, not a cinema one, of course, but quite suitable for very high-quality shooting. I chose the 256 GB version and am quite pleased with the capacity, everything I need fits in this volume. In general, I definitely recommend it to those who often deal with photo and video shooting.
