How to find out what is installed in the system unit. How to find out your computer's settings

I was always interested in delving into the characteristics of my computer, even those that I knew nothing about. It was interesting to test it, to “drive the computer”. For what? The goals can be different: to compare computer components with the original list, to download the necessary drivers, or to sell the computer. In this article I will discuss three simple methods.

System Information utility

The built-in utility is called “System Information”. Go to the menu “Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Information”, or simply write “information” in the search bar of the Start menu and also launch the program.

Here you can find out only basic information about hardware, such as motherboard model, processor type, BIOS version, capacity random access memory and some others. If you go through the “tree”, you can find even more subtle characteristics of the computer.

For example, in the “Components” section there is information about the CD/DVD drive, sound card, and what video card is installed (“Display”). But in general, this tool is very obscure and is intended for technical specialists to debug the computer. I recommend using it if you don’t have anything better at hand.

Without detailed characteristics, but it’s much more convenient, the list of devices can be viewed in “”. To open it, simply press the “Win + Pause” combination. In Windows XP it will open immediately, and in Windows 7/10 the “System” window will first open, in which you can immediately see how much RAM is installed and how much RAM is installed. From here we launch the device manager.

Or open it from Control Panel. Here you can already see what devices are installed on your computer: sound chip, video card, LAN card, model hard drive, drive unit optical disks, monitor and others.

DirectX Diag program

Another one standard program is a DirectX diagnostic tool. Mainly used for testing audio and video systems. To run it, you need to press the “Win + R” buttons and write in the line:

There are also the main characteristics: model of laptop or computer motherboard, video card, sound card, keyboard and mouse.

The methods described are suitable when you need to quickly find out general information about your computer, but if you need more detailed information, then without additional programs not enough. One of my favorite programs is AIDA64, it is .

Good day! There are already quite a lot of notes on this blog that help launch various android applications on the computer. The most popular question concerns system requirements - many simply do not know how to look at the characteristics of the computer and compare them with the table of emulator requirements. In today’s post we will analyze all these gaps in knowledge and answer the pressing question “How to find out system requirements your computer."

Quite often there is a need to find out what is inside your iron friend (I mean a computer or laptop), but to disassemble and look into it giblets no particular desire. Of course, opening the computer and looking at what is written on the components is the surest way, but it is not suitable for everyone and we will not consider it - we will use software methods.

How to find out the characteristics of your computer or laptop without disassembling it? - very simple, no matter how much you are convinced otherwise system administrators and specialists in reinstalling Windows. Today we will look at options using standard means Windows, however, the information on the video card is not always complete, so we’ll dilute it a little third party software to determine the parameters of your computer.

How to find out the characteristics of your computer using standard means

We can look at the characteristics of a computer on any Windows versions built-in utilities and tools. These variations are good because they do not require installation. third party programs and generally shows comprehensive information (which in most cases will be sufficient).

Method 1. We get information from “Computer Properties”

The easiest way to figure out common tactics specifications computer - this is the "Properties" window, which can be opened by clicking right click mouse over the “Computer” icon.

This window displays information about the version of your operating system and its bit depth. We are more interested in the “System” block, where it says which processor is installed in the system and the amount of random access memory (RAM); unfortunately, information about the video adapter is not displayed here. However, for most users the information presented here will be sufficient.

Quite often a situation arises when the amount of available and used RAM does not match (for example, you noted that out of 4 GB of RAM, only 3.25 are available for use - I will write about this in a detailed note about RAM)

Method 2: Computer information in DirectX

I think everyone is familiar with DirectX - it is a set of APIs for programming. If in simple language, then DirectX is needed for the vast majority of computer games, it is included in Windows composition and allows us to find out information about our computer.

In the good old days, it could be launched from the program folder (like Windows 98 and the like), but now the “DirectX Diagnostic Tool” is called by a command in the “Run” window. Press “Win + R” and enter the command dxdiag

In the window that opens, we can see the processor and the amount of installed RAM in the computer. Similar to the previous method - information about installed system Windows and its bit depth. (You can also look at the DirectX version - this issue worries many)

Method 3. Device Manager - a lot of useful information

The task manager can tell you a lot about the insides of your computer or laptop (but unfortunately does not provide information about the amount of RAM in the system), below I have attached a screenshot of my device manager and highlighted the most important things with numbers - I will now talk in detail about each of the points:

  1. In the “Video adapters” section there is our video card (you may have several of them, for example, integrated into the processor and discrete), in my case it is AMD Radeon HD 5800 Series (Series means that it can be either 5850 or 5870 - we are not particularly happy with this answer, but for example, such information is quite enough to install drivers)
  2. Disk devices. This section contains information about the drives installed in your system. It has little to do with system requirements, but in general many are interested in knowing about devices that store your photos, videos and a bunch of other information for years
  3. Processors. IN this place collected information about your central processor - their number means the number of threads, but not cores (although usually the number of cores coincides with the number of threads)

Device Manager allows you to view all devices installed in the system - it indispensable assistant every user and it would be foolish to ignore it.

So we found out the characteristics of our computer, but we still did not find out the exact information about the video card. There are several more ways to determine iron, but as a rule they duplicate the above and I don’t see much point in talking about them.

How to find out your computer settings using third-party programs

Standard products are good for everyone, but sometimes it’s annoying - look at one thing here, look at another there... I’m not surprised that they appeared specialized applications, which collect all information about the characteristics of a laptop or computer. We will now briefly talk about them and look at their basic functionality.

Method 1. We look at the computer parameters using AIDA64

You can find out the characteristics of your computer using such a monster as AIDA64. This application it simply shows great amount useful information about your system - we can use this to our advantage (of course, you need to download the program first)

The application costs money, but there is a trial version for a month - we will have time to find out what is installed on the computer. We are interested in “Summary Information” in the “Computer” section. Here you have both the processor and the amount of RAM. There is information about the motherboard model and, most importantly, there is an exact match in the 3D accelerator line ATI Radeon HD 5870 - this is the video card I have installed.

For general development, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with this program in more detail - don’t know how to find out the processor temperature or fan speed? AIDA64 will tell you everything in detail... the application can be used to monitor the system and perform a stress test to evaluate the stability of your computer - a MUST HAVE for everyone!

No need to read! I have written indecently little in this section; it’s even a little embarrassing to use such a program to determine the amount of RAM or identification processor. If you have time, be sure to familiarize yourself with AIDA64 in more detail - you will not be disappointed... probably no third-party application provides so much information about the system.

Method 2. CPU-Z - a small program with great capabilities

One of my favorite programs, created to present information about the central processor, but in fact it can tell you almost everything about your computer and a little more (they have a PC Wizard program - quite decent option learn about the components inside your computer, but it does not work under Windows 10 and has not been updated for a very long time). The current version can always be downloaded from the official website of the program:

The program does not require installation, is lightweight, and is also free - all we have to do is launch it and browse through the tabs in search of the information we need. What is usually written in system requirements for programs? - That's right, processor and RAM...

  • CPU tab. The Name line contains the name of the processor installed in the system (in my case Intel Core i5 3470). Here we can find out his tech. process, amount of cache memory and much, much other useful information about your CPU.
  • Memory tab. In general, there is nothing to tell here. The Type line is the type of your RAM, and Size is the size... it couldn’t be simpler!

Thus, we have learned the basic computer parameters that affect performance in all applications - but the information is not exhaustive, so we move on.

It is very important to know the model of the motherboard and video card, so that when reinstalling the system we can download current versions drivers for of this type devices. This little program also does a great job with this, so let’s not drag the cat into inevitability and let’s go through the other tabs:

  • Mainboard tab. Sufficiently detailed information about your motherboard - in my case it is clear that I have an ASUS P8H67 (you can safely google it and go to the official website for downloads)
  • Graphics tab. Not very detailed information about the video card, but unlike the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, the amount of graphics memory was determined quite correctly.

CPU-Z has very useful function, which shows RAM broken down by slots (i.e. you can see which module is inserted into which slot) - this is very helpful when upgrading and selecting a die for your PC or laptop.

As you can see, CPU-Z has no problems viewing the characteristics of a computer on Windows 10. We can safely recommend adding the best programs or a sort of “gentleman’s set of software”.

Method 3. Piriform Speccy - from the developers of the legendary CCleaner

The most best program to view computer characteristics - this is Piriform Spessy, the authors of the beloved CCleaner utilities. You can download the application on the official website - I haven’t used it paid version, allows you to find out your computer settings and free version, and we don’t need more...

All the program can do is collect information about our PC and show it to you in an easy-to-read form. The operating system, the central processor, the motherboard - all this is conveniently laid out and there are no difficulties in finding the right item. This is what a highly specialized program means - nothing superfluous, everything is strictly on topic (even the motherboard socket shows).

In general, there is a lot of related information here, such as SMART hard disk or tech. CPU process. Speccy will tell you in as much detail as possible about the rich inner world your computer... on the one hand, this is very good, but on the other hand, you are simply bombarded with a huge flow of information and unfamiliar terms, the meaning of which you will have to look for information on yourself.

Computer settings. Results.

I think it’s worth wrapping up slowly - there is enough information and some conclusions can be drawn. We learned how to view the characteristics of a computer in several ways:

  • Built-in utilities
  • Third party programs

We found out what their advantages and disadvantages are and you can decide which one. the method will work specifically for you. In general, information about a computer can be collected and using Windows, but agree - specialized software more convenient and functional...

P.S. You can always disassemble the computer and look at the markings on the components, but do this inexperienced user I don't recommend it. You can find out the characteristics of your computer in safe and less destructive ways.

My computer settings: Processor – Intel Core i5 3470 / 24 gigabytes of RAM / 120 gigabytes SSD drive under the system / ATI video card Radeon HD 5870 1GB

Good day.

I think that many, when working at a computer or laptop, have encountered a harmless and a simple question: “how to find out certain characteristics of a computer...”.

And I must tell you that this question arises quite often, usually in the following cases:

  • - when searching and updating drivers ();
  • - find out if necessary hard temperature disk or processor;
  • - in case of PC crashes and freezes;
  • - if necessary, provide the basic parameters of PC components (for example, when selling, or show it to your interlocutor);
  • - when installing a particular program, etc.

By the way, sometimes you need not only to know the characteristics of the PC, but also to correctly determine the model, version, etc. I am sure that no one keeps such parameters in memory (and the documents for the PC hardly list those parameters that can be found directly in the Windows OS itself 7, 8 or using special utilities).

So, let's get started...

How to find out the characteristics of your computer in Windows 7, 8

In general, even without using special. utilities you can get a lot of information about your computer directly in Windows. Let's look at a few ways below...

Method No. 1 - use the "system information" utility program

The method works in both Windows 7 and Windows 8.

1) Open the “Run” tab (in Windows 7 in the “Start” menu) and enter the command “msinfo32” (without quotes), press Enter.

By the way, you can launch this utility utility from the menu Start: All programs -> Accessories -> Utilities -> System Information.

Method No. 2 - through the control panel (system properties)

1) Go to the panel Windows management and go to the section " system and safety“, then open the “System” tab.

2) A window should open in which you can view basic information about the PC: what OS is installed, what processor, how much RAM, computer name, etc.

To open this tab, you can use another method: simply right-click on the “ My Computer" icon and select properties from the drop-down menu.

Method number 3 - through the device manager

1) Go to: Control Panel/System and Security/Device Manager(see screenshot below).

2) In the device manager you can see not only all the PC components, but also problems with drivers: in front of those devices where everything is not in order, a yellow or red exclamation mark will light up.

Method No. 4 - DirectX diagnostic tools

This option is more aimed at audio video characteristics computer.

1) Open the “Run” tab and enter the command “dxdiag.exe” (in Windows 7 in the Start menu). Then press Enter.

2) In the DirectX diagnostic tool window, you can get acquainted with the basic parameters of the video card, processor model, number of paging files, Windows OS version, and other parameters.

Utilities for viewing computer characteristics

At all, similar utilities quite a lot: both paid and free. In that small review I have listed those that are most convenient to work with (in my opinion, they are the best in their segment). In my articles I repeatedly refer to some of (and will continue to refer to)…

1.Speccy

One of best utilities to date! First of all, it's free; secondly, it supports a huge amount of equipment (netbooks, laptops, computers of various brands and modifications); thirdly, in Russian.

And lastly, in it you can find out all the basic information about the characteristics of the computer: information about the processor, OS, RAM, sound devices, processor and HDD temperature, etc.

By the way, there are several versions of the programs on the manufacturer’s website, including a portable one (which does not require installation).

Yes, Speccy works in all popular versions of Windows: XP, Vista, 7, 8 (32 and 64 bits).

2.Everest

One of the most famous programs of its kind. True, her popularity has subsided somewhat now, but still...

In this utility, you will not only be able to find out the characteristics of your computer, but also a bunch of necessary and not necessary information. Particularly pleasing is the full support for the Russian language; you don’t see this often in many programs. Some of the most the necessary opportunities programs (there is no particular point in listing them all):

2) Editing auto-loading programs. Very often, the computer starts to slow down due to the fact that a lot of utilities are added to startup, which most people simply don’t need in everyday work on a PC! There was a separate post about that.

3) Section with all connected devices. Thanks to it, you can determine the model of the connected device, and then find required driver! By the way, the program sometimes even prompts you with a link where you can download and update the driver. Very convenient, especially since unstable work PC, drivers are often to blame.

3. HWInfo

Small, but very powerful utility. It can provide no less information than Everest, the only depressing thing is the lack of Russian language.

By the way, if, for example, you look at temperature sensors, then in addition to the current indicators, the program will show the maximum allowable for your equipment. If the current degrees are close to the maximum, there is reason to think...

The utility works very quickly, information is collected literally on the fly. There is support for different OS: XP, Vista, 7.

By the way, it’s convenient to update drivers; the utility below publishes a link to the manufacturer’s website, saving you time.

By the way, the screenshot on the left shows summary information about the PC, which is displayed immediately after launching the utility.

4. PC Wizard

A powerful utility for viewing many parameters and characteristics of your PC. Here you can find program configurations, information about hardware, and even test some devices: for example, a processor. By the way, it’s also worth noting that PC Wizard, if you don’t need it, can be quickly minimized in the taskbar, occasionally blinking notification icons.

There are also disadvantages... It takes a long time to load when first launched (about a couple of minutes). Plus, sometimes the program slows down, showing the characteristics of the computer with a delay. Honestly, it gets annoying to wait 10-20 seconds after you click on any item from the statistics section. Otherwise it is a normal utility. If you look at the characteristics rarely enough, then you can safely use it!

By the way, some information about the computer can be found in the BIOS: for example, processor model, hard drive, laptop model, etc. parameters.

Laptop Acer ASPIRE. Information about the computer in the BIOS.

By the way, what utilities do you use to view PC characteristics?

And that's all for me today. Good luck to all!

IN modern world The computer is our first assistant in various matters, be it work or leisure. To understand exactly where the limit of its capabilities is, you need to know the parameters and characteristics. You can find and view them using standard built-in Windows methods 7 or using external software.

Why do you need information about the characteristics of a computer running Windows 7?

Of course, every owner of a personal computer or laptop with the Windows 7 operating system has a rough idea of its computing power and speed of work in a particular program. But there are cases when the parameters expressed in numerical values, you need to know more precisely.

For example, a PC owner decides to buy new game. Modern games are very demanding on computer resources - you may need good video card or more strong processor. If the current PC specifications do not meet the requirements, the gamer may think about upgrading, that is, improving the computer’s parameters, buying new or additional elements configurations. Then it will be necessary to take into account the compatibility of new components with existing ones, which means you need to know their composition.

The problem is relevant not only for those who like to play computer games, but also for any person who is in one way or another involved in installing programs and applications on a computer. Programs usually have minimum system requirements, especially for serious professional software - graphics packages, 3D processing programs, publishing systems, powerful word processors.

You can determine the upper limit of PC performance experimentally when installed program will begin to slow down when performing certain actions. However, why spend extra time installing it if you can immediately see whether the PC parameters meet the requirements. Moreover, this can be done easily and quickly as standard methods, that is, using built-in utility programs, and by installing additional software.

How to find out the parameters, properties and information of a PC or laptop

Standard methods

The Windows 7 operating system already has a set of built-in programs and methods to quickly find out the PC settings without resorting to installing other software. Methods for obtaining information differ in the level of complexity of the call, so the user can choose the most convenient and easily accessible options for himself. Every PC user knows at least two methods.

Differences for different versions No OS. These methods will work in all versions of Windows 7: Home, Professional, Ultimate and other builds.

System Information utility

The built-in system information utility program can be launched in a few mouse clicks:

  • Find the “Computer” icon on the “Desktop” and right-click on it.
  • Select "Properties" from the drop-down menu

The call is made by clicking on the computer icon

  • That, in fact, is all you need to view information about the system. The window that opens will display information about the operating system version. Windows systems 7, installed updates, licenses. The following contains information about the characteristics of the processor, RAM memory, OS bit depth, as well as the system performance index. Below is the computer name.

The main part of the window contains information about the OS, processor parameters and other information

Hotkeys for calling the window with system properties

More faster access this window can be accessed using the Win hotkey combination (icon Windows windows) + Pause/Break. The Pause/Break key is available on standard keyboards personal computers, however, may be absent on laptop keyboards, the creators of which strive for compactness and abandon some rarely used keys for the sake of other functions.

    Via control panel

It's not always easy to remember the keyboard shortcuts for different programs. There is no need to despair. It is worth remembering that any computer has a main central point for controlling all devices and parameters. This is the Control Panel. Just remember how to launch it, and you will always have access to all important functions and information.

  • Go to Start, then select the Control Panel menu command.
  • The next window can be presented in two versions. It depends on whether you have ever run it before or not. The standard window presentation is by category. That is, access to individual functions is grouped thematically under single headings, and the most important ones are included in menu items. necessary for the user information, so you may not find the item you need right away.

    Features are divided into categories

  • If the window looks like this, select “System and Security”.

If icons with names are displayed on the screen, without breakdown into categories, then you should immediately go to the “System” item. You can change the display type to one that suits you in the upper right corner of the window, the “View” option, then change it to “Category” or “Large/small icons”.

Display all Control Panel items without categorizing them

After selecting the appropriate item, the same system information window will appear with information about the version of Windows 7, processor properties and other data.

How to open using Device Manager

Often, the information provided in the system properties window is not enough to make a decision about upgrading a PC. For example, you need to know the exact model of the processor, audio and video device, or information about other components. This is where Device Manager comes to the rescue. It contains information about absolutely all components inside your PC and connected external devices.

You can access the “Device Manager” through the “System Properties” window, from the tab in the left side menu.

To launch the dispatcher, you need to select the appropriate item in the left menu of system properties

The Device Manager itself looks like this and contains a list of PC components divided into categories. To view the composition of each category, you need to expand it by clicking on the triangle on the left side of each item.

The manager contains information about components by category

Besides general information about the composition hardware PC, "Device Manager" can provide even more valuable information - whether it's time to update the device driver or whether there are any conflicts between devices. You can right-click on each list item and select “Properties”, where you will see detailed information about the component, installed drivers and other information needed in exceptional cases. Conflicting devices will be marked with a yellow triangle - by this icon you can determine that there is a problem with the component, perhaps it is incompatible with some other device, then you need to reinstall the component or update its driver.

    Via the command line

A little more information than the "System Information" window gives launch special utility via command Windows string 7.

  • Go to Start, then click Run.
  • In the window that appears, enter letters"cmd" (without quotes).
  • A window with a black background will appear, enter the command “systeminfo” (without quotes) in it. In a few seconds the system will load the data. In addition to information about the version of Windows, there you can find information about the status of RAM, network adapters, BIOS version, system model, domain group.

Result of executing the systeminfo command

  • How to open by launching the Run applet

The Run applet also allows you to launch the system properties window directly from it, you just need to know a special command.

  • Go to the Start menu and click Run. This applet can be called by pressing the Win + R key combination.
  • In the input field, type the command “ control system"(without quotes). Click OK.

System properties can be accessed through the control system command

  • If this method does not work and gives an error, try writing in the applet the full name of the command “control /name Microsoft.System” (without quotes, with a space before the slash (slash) and without a space after it). Click OK.

Full name of the command to view system information

The convenience of this method is that the “Run” applet remembers all the commands you previously entered. It is enough to remember approximately what words it contains or what letter it begins with. When you enter this letter into a line, the applet will display all the commands that you entered that begin with this letter.

How to Check Specifications Using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool

Detailed information about the main devices can be obtained using the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, this utility is also included in the system.

  • Click the Start button, then Run, or press the Win + R key combination.
  • In the Run box of the applet, enter the command “dxdiag” (without quotes). The DirectX diagnostic window will open. From the main “System” tab you can find out information about the OS version, computer model and BIOS, processor type and DirectX versions. The following tabs “Display”, “Sound”, “Input” allow you to obtain information about the corresponding video, audio, and input devices included in your computer’s configuration.
  • If the window does not start, type in the “Run” line the full name of the command with the extension “dxdiag.exe” (without quotes).
  • The utility is launched through the execution applet and the dxdiag command

How to log in via BIOS

If the above methods of obtaining information about the system are still not enough, you can be determined and “get into” the very core of the computer - the BIOS. In addition to basic information, you can find out there, for example, the temperature of the hard drive and processor.

This method of finding out the parameters is not recommended for beginners, since, firstly, to enter the BIOS you will need to determine its type in order to find the desired key entrance, because it is different for all manufacturers. Secondly, you will need to press this key very quickly when loading the PC, since this only takes a few seconds. Thirdly, the BIOS in most cases is a blue or black screen with text, which is unusual for users GUI. Random change settings in it may cause the PC to malfunction.

  • To enter the BIOS, you need to start rebooting the computer. There is no need to turn off the monitor.
  • Next, you should act very quickly, you can even film the screen with your smartphone’s camera if you can’t enter the BIOS the first time. When white lines of text run across the black screen and the logo appears, you need to look at the very bottom of the screen, where it says “Press ... to enter SETUP.”
  • What will be written instead of the ellipsis is the button you are looking for. Most likely you will need reboot again, so that you, having information about the button, have time to press it before the PC boots.

Below you can find information about the button to enter the BIOS

  • Popular keys to access the BIOS are DEL or F2.

And also knowing the name of the BIOS on your PC (you can look it up in the top line black screen upon boot, if you did not notice the BIOS entry key), you can find information about the key combination, this depends on the PC manufacturer.

The most common brands of PCs and laptops and buttons for entering BIOS:

If the input does not work the first time, even when you press the desired key, try again. It happens that the key simply does not have time to work, and the OS boot process proceeds as usual.

The BIOS looks different on every PC and the information presented may vary greatly. The main thing to remember is that you don’t need to change settings unless you need to and understand what this might lead to.

    Displays information about PC components

    Using third-party programs and utilities

The most complete information about the system, presented in one place in a user-friendly form with graphs, can be obtained using specialized programs, which are installed on the PC separately. With them you can not only have data about your computer, but also monitor the temperature, memory and hard drive load in “real time”.

    Aida

Considered the most popular program for complete information about the characteristics and current status of the PC. Here you can learn everything about hardware and software computer, operating system, additional external devices. In addition, the program has a number of tests to determine PC performance, analyze configuration features (which allows you to find out even what is not in the documentation), check system stability, and much more.

The program is very functional, but therefore it is not free. Free with 30 days trial period you can download Extreme Edition and Engineer Edition. The versions are almost fully functional; they only lack some reports. However, this will be more than enough to test the system and identify faults.

You can download the program from the official website using the link - http://www.aida64.ru/download.

After launching the program, an interface similar to “Device Manager” appears, where all PC components are divided into categories.

PC components are categorized and you can view information for each

    Everest

Previously, it was also one of the most famous programs for monitoring the configuration and status of a PC. Now its support has been discontinued, the program has been replaced by AIDA64. However, you can still find versions of this software on the Internet. However, you can’t hope for stability of its operation, and it’s better to use other utilities.

    HWInfo

In the HWInfo utility, information about a PC is not displayed as structured as in other programs, but the software has a number of details that may seem convenient to someone.

  • For example, next to the section where you can update drivers, a link to the manufacturer’s website is displayed, and you do not need to search for it yourself.
  • The block with processor and hard drive temperature indicators also shows the recommended maximum temperature for your specific PC, so all you have to do is make sure that this level is not reached.
  • The utility works at high speed.
  • The only negative is that there is no Russian language.

Display system data on one screen

    PC Wizard

The functionality of the PC Wizard program is similar to previous programs. Through it you can obtain information about the system, test PC performance, check driver updates, and more. It contains less data than the AIDA leader, but for some this is more than enough.

The program quickly minimizes to the tray and displays indicators and notifications there. The only drawback is that when you first start the software, it may freeze for several minutes as it collects data about the system.

    Speccy

Another convenient program in its class is Piriform Speccy. The program is completely free and also offers many PC characteristics and indicators for all major devices to view. At the same time, various brands and manufacturers of PCs, laptops, and netbooks are supported. It works quickly and is Russified. It's convenient what it is portable version of this program - that is, it does not require installation and starts immediately after downloading. You can carry it with you on a flash drive and open it directly from it.

Video: where to find and view information about the properties of the operating system

After reviewing the information on viewing system parameters in different using standard methods and built-in programs, the user will always be able to accurately find out the configuration of his PC, the status of the devices, and also check their stable operation.

My name is Elizaveta, I am 27 years old. Higher education in pedagogy, specialty: computer science teacher and in English; the second is a systems engineer. She worked in the educational field, as well as in the IT field. Since childhood, I have been interested in writing articles, stories and other literary opuses :-), with spelling, punctuation and grammar, everything is in perfect order. As a student, I worked part-time as a rewriter/copywriter. I wrote on topics that were suggested to me, most often these were children’s/women’s topics: health, pregnancy, children, development. Less frequently came across news and announcements on finance/business and technology. Now I'm running my own thematic communities on social networks, I write articles for them myself.

There are situations when you need to find out the exact characteristics of a laptop, while the documentation for it has not been preserved. It's actually quite simple task, since almost everything necessary information can be obtained through standard utilities most operating system or simple third party applications. Next, we will tell you how to determine the manufacturer, model, type and parameters of the main components of a laptop - processor, video card, motherboard, memory, etc.

The simplest ways to obtain information about the parameters of laptop components

All basic information about memory, video chip, processor and other components mobile computer can be obtained without installing any third party applications. For this, ready-made solutions in Windows itself should be suitable. To check if the system requirements of an application are suitable for your laptop, system utility Msinfo32 will be quite enough. It starts like this:

    1. Open the Run command window. To do this, you can right-click on the “Start” button in the left corner of the desktop or simply press “Alt” and “R” at the same time.
    2. In the field for entering commands, write the line “Msinfo32”, click on “Ok”.

After completing these two simple steps, a system information window will open, where you can immediately see data such as model, frequency and number of processor cores, type and amount of memory, how much it costs motherboard etc. Information about the graphics chip can be seen in another tab by switching to the components branch and opening the “Display” item. The type and size of the storage device is available in the branch of the same name in the “Disks” section.

The fastest way to find out the characteristics of a laptop

There is another simple way to compare the system requirements with how much memory costs, and in general what kind of hardware is installed in your laptop. To do this, Windows provides the ability to view basic system information. You can get to the corresponding window in just a couple of clicks:

    1. Open context menu folder "This PC" by right-clicking on it.
    2. In the list of commands, select “Properties”, after which the window of the system application we need will be displayed on the display.

There is much less information about the laptop here, but there will be enough data to compare the system requirements of any game with them. The application window provides the following information:

    • processor type and characteristics;
    • memory size and system type;
    • information about Windows - its version, activation, etc.

Although this method is fast, it does not provide enough information about what hardware is in the laptop. Therefore, next we will present a couple more options for working with system Windows components, with the help of which almost all the necessary technical characteristics of the device can be obtained.

    Using the dxdiag system utility

More detailed information about the laptop can be obtained by opening system application dxdiag.exe. It can also be accessed through the Run command:

    1. Open the “Run” window using one of the previously described methods;
    2. In the command input field, write the line “dxdiag.exe” without quotes and press “Enter”.

It also provides a very detailed list of hardware, including system type, memory size, processor model and specifications. If you switch to the “Screen” tab, it will become available full information O graphics core laptop. Will be indicated:

    • manufacturer and model of graphics chip;
    • type and size of device memory;

You can also see the brand and manufacturer of the display, its performance characteristics, and information about installed drivers.

Using third-party applications to determine laptop characteristics

A good quality small application that can determine many laptop parameters - CPU-Z. With its help, you can view the technical characteristics of your processor, motherboard (model and chipset), size and type of RAM, and video chip performance. Information about each component is provided in separate tabs - CPU, Mainboard, Memory and Graphics, respectively.

Even more details about established system components provides the AIDA64 application. It is true that it is paid, but with a trial period during which the functionality is not limited, therefore, you can use the program completely free of charge.

Unlike many similar utilities, AIDA64 provides information not only about the processor, video adapter, etc., but even about the monitor, including its size. You can view them in the following way:

    1. Launch AIDA64 and click on the “Display” tab.
    2. Open the "Monitor" item.

All available information about the display will appear in the application work area - its name, size in inches, maximum resolution. Information that allows you to determine the release date of your monitor may also be useful - the program indicates the year and week of its manufacture.

Other information about the laptop that cannot be found out from diagnostic programs

While data such as the type and amount of memory, the diagonal size of the laptop display in inches can be viewed in some diagnostic programs, for example, AIDA64, these applications do not show the date of manufacture of the laptop itself or, for example, its weight. But the label that should be stuck on the laptop can tell you how to find out the year of manufacture of the laptop. back cover devices:

Another characteristic that is interesting to many is the weight of the laptop. No diagnostic utilities display it in any way. In the absence of scales, it is possible to determine how much a laptop weighs only approximately, focusing on its dimensions and characteristics. Thus, large-format laptops with a diagonal of 17’’ can weigh more than three kg. Gaming and multimedia devices often have an even greater mass, exceeding 4 kg. Basically, laptops with a diagonal of 11-13’’ weigh 1.3-1.5 kg, 15-inch laptops - 2-2.5 kg.
