How to set up system sound on your computer. Standard Options Add-on

Setting up sound on your computer
Personal computers have a sound subsystem - these are all the components responsible for sound reproduction. If one of these elements fails, there may be no sound on the computer. The failure can be either software or hardware (failure of the sound card). First, let's figure out what elements are included in the sound subsystem, and then we'll look at how to set up sound on a computer.

Main components

A sound card is a device designed to reproduce sound; it can be built-in or separate (discrete). In most cases, built-in sound cards are found.

Playback devices

This includes all devices responsible for sound reproduction: headphones, speakers, etc. It is worth including in this section the wires connecting all sound devices. Common cause The reason why there is no sound on the computer is a faulty wire.

Audio software

Driver for sound card. If the driver is missing, there will be no sound on the PC.

Codecs are a set of special libraries designed to play certain audio formats on a computer. As a rule, the main codecs are already preinstalled in Windows; if necessary, you can install additional ones. It is worth noting that the absence of some codecs will not lead to complete absence sound on PC. There will be no sound only when playing some audio formats.

The sound may disappear certain period time, i.e. during computer operation or missing from the moment of its purchase.

If there was no sound initially, then you need to make sure correct installation sound card, if it is discrete. After which, make sure correct connection speakers to the computer. You can check them by connecting, for example, to a phone.

After connecting to the PC, you will need to configure the speakers on the computer. To do this, you can use the Realtek utility:

Open by going to the “Realtek HD Manager” control panel;

On the right side there is a connection diagram, click on it and select the playback device you want to connect.

Driver installation

Open Device Manager and see if the driver for your sound card is installed. If the driver is missing, then sound card will be displayed as unknown device. If the driver is not installed, it can be downloaded from the official website, depending on the sound card manufacturer, or, if the card is discrete, it must include a disk containing the driver.

If the sound disappears after Windows updates or driver installation, this may indicate incorrect installation sound driver. In this case, removing the sound card in the task manager will help solve the problem.

Removing it is accompanied by removing the drivers and rebooting the computer. If you updated the driver and then the sound disappeared, you can roll back to the previous, working version of the driver. To do this, in the Driver tab, in the properties of the sound card, click “Roll Back” and restart the computer.

Checking sound settings in Windows

There is a speaker icon on the taskbar; it is possible that the volume level is set to minimum. To check this, click on the speaker icon and drag the volume slider up if it is set to minimum. If there is a crossed out speaker below the bar with the slider, this means that the sound is turned off; to turn it on, you need to click on this speaker, after which the sound will turn on. If the speaker is marked with a white cross in a red circle, you need to check the settings of the playback devices, for this:

Go to the control panel, to the “Sound” section;

Select “Playback devices”;

If nothing is selected in the “Playback” section, only “Sound devices are not installed” is present, you should click right click mouse, select “Show disabled devices”. After that, further adjustment of the sound on the computer is made by selecting required device playback

Checking system services

If you still can’t get sound to appear, you should check whether audio services are disabled, to do this:

We go to “Start” and register in search bar services.msc, after which we open the found file;

Select Endpoint Builder Windows points Audio" and go to "Properties". Going to the “General” section, check which startup type is selected, it should be “Automatic”. If the services are stopped, you should start it by clicking the corresponding button.

There are cases where the sound disappears due to the computer being infected with malicious software. mi programs. To check your computer for viruses, just install an antivirus and scan the system. There may also be problems with system files, in this case, system recovery will help.

In any case, you need to know how to properly configure the sound on your computer; without sound you will not be able to fully use all the capabilities of your personal computer. There are many various situations, which contribute to the lack of sound on the computer, to solve which you need to have certain knowledge or have it in stock basic instructions about how to set up speakers on your computer. After spending a certain amount of your time, you will definitely find the cause of the problem and be able to configure it yourself, returning the sound to your PC.

Any new device requires some configuration, for example, adjustment sound parameters. All models that are on the market today are equipped with a built-in sound card.

As a rule, most ordinary users full of characteristics, quality and range of configurations discrete system. Sound lovers for whom it is important to achieve maximum result, buy separate card With additional settings and opportunities.

Regardless of the device's contents, every modern user should know how to set up speakers Windows computer 7.

Standard add-on parameters

When you install Windows 7, it automatically configures all systems on your computer. If for some reason the process was interrupted or did not produce the desired result, you need to go to the “Device Manager” panel and make sure that the necessary components are active and that all drivers are available.

When an icon with an exclamation mark is lit next to the speakers, it means that there are no drivers (you need to download the files from the official website, then install them on your computer).

When there is a red cross next to the audio player icon, this indicates that the device is not active. To enable it, you need to right-click on the icon and activate the “Enable” field. Evidence that the normal and speaker parameters are enabled is the speaker located in the right corner at the bottom of the working Windows desktop 7.

Next, you need to adjust music playback on your PC. To do this, go to the Start menu, then to the Control Panel.

Here you will find “Sound”. All further actions are produced in this section.

How to set up speakers on a Windows 7 computer

In the “Sound” section you need to find the “Playback” menu and click on “Customize”. A window will open in which you can check whether the speakers are sounding correctly by clicking on the picture of the speakers.

Carefully check that all speakers are working correctly and click “next”. Another window will open where you need to check the line of parameters for wide and surrounding formats (when available). Then comes “next” and “done.” This is the final step and completes the usual speaker tuning.

For convenience, you can calibrate sound effects for playback on a PC. In the same “Sound” section in the “Playback” menu, find the speaker and click on “Properties”. In the window that appears, the “General” menu displays the available inputs; in “Levels,” a convenient scale of playback through speakers and microphone recording is adjusted.

IN " additional features» can be selected, activated or deleted unnecessary options. After selecting the parameters, it is important not to forget to save everything and click “Ok”.

Adjusting sound on a laptop

Adjusting the parameters on a laptop may differ slightly from a PC. The fact is that, unlike a stationary model, a laptop only has integrated speakers for playing music. Despite the differences in equipment, the process diagram on the devices is similar.

  1. First you need to go to the Start menu.
  2. "Control Panel".

IN last section The same steps are performed as in the case of a PC.

Laptops have an unusual but convenient “Fn” key on their keyboards. It’s not difficult to find it; it’s usually located near Windows buttons. Examine the keyboard carefully; some keys (located at the top) have different symbols.

To configure, you will need to find the speaker icon. If you simultaneously press “Fn” and the button with the speaker crossed out, the sound on the device will turn off. Using similar keys (arrows are drawn) you can change the playback level. There is nothing difficult in the adjustment process.

How to set up speakers on a Windows 7 PC programmatically

Adjusting playback on a PC is not only standard methods. Often audio equipment developers implement special programs- BY. They are used to make detailed playback adjustments.

The most famous option is Realtek. This program serves as the standard option for advanced adjustments in Windows 7.

To open the programs, enter “Realtek HD” in the system search engine and press enter. In this software, all the moments are collected in single menu to simplify the process. The types of inputs and active devices are also displayed here.

The volume is adjusted by moving the slider, and next to it is changing the balance of the speakers. Choose convenient options from additional list, then immediately listen to the finished result. Next, go to the “Sound Effect” menu.

Here the general environment is adjusted, and in the “Equalizer” section you select the genre to play. Carefully adjust everything to suit yourself and save the result. The microphone configuration is carried out in the same software.

Usage similar programs greatly simplifies the process.

Bottom line

In essence, there is no big difference between the configuration of a laptop and a PC. All devices on the same system are similar. The entire process is performed in the same way, with the exception of some nuances.

The most convenient method of adjusting playback is to use additional software from the developer. It is usually installed along with the drivers. The advantage of such programs is that everything is collected in one section.

This approach is much more convenient. Search for the required parameter in standard means oh it’s more complicated, everything will take more time.

In most cases, modern built-in maps allow you to not bother yourself and use automatic tuning. It produces good results for the music being played.

The end result is quite enough for most everyday tasks of an ordinary person. Most users only use volume control, but some people want the sound quality to be as high as possible.

They try to squeeze everything out of the device and make optimal configuration adjustments, to squeeze everything they can out of their device.

Regardless of what purpose it is purchased for Personal Computer, it will always be used as multimedia center for watching videos and listening to music. Even the weakest computer can easily cope with this task, so before you start using your computer as a multimedia center, you need to figure out how to set up the sound on your computer. It is assumed that readers have already checked the volume level and installed (and downloaded from the Internet) all the necessary codecs ( K-Lite Codec Pack). Without these two steps, anyone may experience playback problems.

Quick setup

Regardless of what doesn't work, let's go to the lower right corner of the desktop. In the tray we find the speaker icon, if necessary, click on the arrow.

Adjust the volume if necessary. Right-click and then select an item depending on the nature of the malfunction:

  1. For sound – playback devices.
  2. For voice – recording devices.

Playback devices

Having entered the sound window, first of all, right-click and check the boxes:

  • Show disabled devices.
  • Show disconnected devices.

The difference between them is that the former are disabled programmatically, for example, through the task manager, while the latter are absent altogether, could have been deleted, or were not even used in the first place.

Standard analog output

The screenshot shows a typical set of devices. Speakers are outputs located on the rear panel system unit. To verify this, double-click on the icon.

A color breakdown is provided right here. Due to the fact that the translation into Russian is curved, a beginner may not understand what is being said:

  1. Green – left/right column. In surround sound1, these are the front speakers.
  2. The center and subwoofer channels go to the orange port.
  3. Gray – rear (rear, side) speakers, left and right.

On HiFi systems, sound around 5.1 usually has polar outputs - two for each speaker. Therefore, you need to find an adapter for your computer. As for a regular stereo, the jack is already wired, all that remains is to connect it to the green input. The pinout of the 5.1 adapter in our case is as follows.

Knowing the layout, you don’t need to be intimidated by further options (because the list is extensive). Let's look at what each setting means.

At the top, you are prompted to change the settings for the entire sound at once. IN this moment the level is 47%. By clicking on the speaker icon, you can instantly turn off all speakers; the balance is located next to it. But there are 12 more settings! They shouldn't scare us:

It remains to add that changing the level of the orange connector simultaneously controls the subwoofer and the central speaker, and the gray connector controls both side speakers. Only the inscriptions “in” can lead to confusion. In fact, some of the connectors are audio outputs. We didn't say anything about blue. This is a line-level analog input, like a (pink) microphone. The Improvements tab is suggested to be considered below.

Headset on the front panel of the system unit

The second on the Realtek HD Audio 2nd output list is the front panel audio connector. A red arrow means it is not connected. As already mentioned above. This option means that the motherboard has a free F_AUDIO connector where you can connect a headset. Its typical appearance is shown in the picture.

If you look closely, you can see the second bottom pin from the left. This is the key that determines the connector layout. The electrical interface is shown on the screenshot.

The pinout will help you connect almost any headset here. Please note that F_AUDIO can be connected to two different physical interfaces:

  • AC`97.
  • HD audio.

The table is given for the second case, because the first is becoming obsolete. But in the specification for the motherboard you need to clarify what signals this connector comes with. In addition, you can separately find internal USB ports under headsets, but usually no one uses them, but instead they use those located on the system unit case. The photo shows a typical combined module for the front panel of a system unit made of USB and audio jack. The two connectors differ from each other in the position of the key.

Digital audio output S/P-DIF

The last component in the playback devices menu works fine, but the description says something about a mysterious internal ATAPI port. You will not find a decoding of these words anywhere on the Internet. It's actually just an S/P-DIF connector, which isn't on the back panel. The connector on the motherboard is empty. Why might S/P-DIF be needed when setting up sound?

The interface was introduced in the 80s (XX century) by Sony and Philips after the release of the first digital CD players. To play music, it was necessary to perform double analog-to-digital conversion (reverse and forward), which reduced the quality. S/P-DIF delivers stunning sampling rates of up to 768 kHz at maximum performance. The bus bitrate is usually from 2 to 3.1 MHz depending on this parameter:

  1. 2 MHz for 32 kHz sampling rate (satellite receivers).
  2. 2.8 MHz for 44.1 kHz sampling rate (CD players).
  3. 3.1 MHz for 48 GHz sampling rate (digital tape recorders).

To evaluate the possible benefits of this connector, let's look at the supported interfaces tab.

  • DTS audio. Used to play HD video quality and Blu-ray discs. Supports 5.1 and 7.1 speaker system depending on software implementation. Suitable for connecting home cinemas.
  • Dolby Digital- V in the usual form the same 5.1 interface. The difference from DTS is in the capabilities of the connected equipment (players, home theaters, etc.).
  • Microsoft WMA Pro Audio. Used by some players, such as online at nbcolympics.com/video.

All three varieties provide transmission digital audio With high resolution for complex acoustic systems. Since they are transmitted over the same channel, the process is completely transparent to the user. In some cases, codecs or drivers will be needed. S/P-DIF is a 3-in-1 hybrid output port for maximum compatibility with external equipment.

How to use S/P-DIF

From configuration motherboard it is clear that the manufacturer (Gigabyte) does not really care about the S/P-DIF digital output. Instead, there is a high-performance HDMI port on the rear panel. This is a hybrid interface for transmitting audio and video information over one line. The only problem is that the cable is not cheap, it is extremely rarely supplied with equipment and is not supported by all devices. Speakers with HDMI interface extremely difficult to find, however, the same can be said about S/P-DIF (for example, Polk Audio Woodbourne).

The photo shows that the connector has only two pins. Rumor has it that Gigabyte uses an ALC883 transmitter here, which can be directly connected to the 75 Ohm optical or coaxial input of any equipment. To do this you will need the appropriate cable. One of the pins is the circuit ground, and the other is the digital audio output. A pin connector from a system fan (cooler) is suitable for docking. We managed to find the ports on e-bay (ebay.com/sch/-/175673/i.html?_nkw=spdif). True, they are not cheap. If possible, you need to ask for connectors at the nearest PC repair shop; sometimes they agree to sell components at a reasonable price.

Some, even old, motherboards (Asus A7N8X-X) have an S/P-DIF connector with an input. This allows you to record audio and perform some other operations here. In this case, there may be not 2 pins, but more, for example, 6. Their functions are described in the user manual (see photo).

HDMI

Analog audio will never be the best. Therefore, if it is not possible to use S/P-DIF, then you need to buy hdmi cable. This digital interface is usually found on modern motherboards. Its version should be found in the user manual. Starting with 2.0, the interface supports the transmission of as many as 32 independent channels. Of course, HDMI is compatible with DTS and Dolby Digital, mentioned above in connection with S/P-DIF. HDMI is aimed at movie buffs rather than audiophiles because it allows simultaneous transmission of high-definition video.

To use the interface, you need to buy a cord, and home theater the input connector will be revealed. From what has been said it should be clear what is required acoustic system 5.1 or 7.1 (including +2) to enjoy all the benefits. Otherwise, there is no need to use such complex equipment.

Recording devices

This topic has actually been covered. Analog microphone usually inserted into the pink jack next to the headphones, and a USB headset sometimes requires driver installation. The author had to see one village system administrator(population about 2,500), who said that complex headphones do not require a driver. The fact is that they don’t sell really high-quality equipment in the villages, and not everyone knows about it.

A complex USB headset is detected in Device Manager as a compound device. And it doesn't work, although sometimes (we haven't seen this personally) you can hear something in the headphones. This is not suitable for Skype and communication, but it is still recommended to install the driver. Because fancy headphones can often have their own controller inside.

The main problem users have is that the microphone settings are set to zero gain. That's why you speak, but no one can hear you. This can be fixed in a couple of minutes. At the beginning it was said how to go into playback devices, and now you need to select recording devices. Check the boxes in context menu, as above and change the gain. I would like to draw your attention to the fact that manufacturers also make mistakes. For example, our microphone is supposedly located on the front panel, which is not true. It is plugged into the jack next to the speakers.

The functionality is checked by lightly clicking your fingers in the receiving area. In this case, the indicator on the right side of the window will partially turn green. If this does not happen, then the sound is not coming, and third party programs for communication are not guilty. Double-click on the working microphone and go to the Levels tab. Here all scales need to be set to maximum. Most programs automatically adjust the headset volume, and you don't need to worry about this. If the indicator now turns green when clicked, then everything is fine. Otherwise, we check the drivers and switches on the microphone, because the device is not working correctly.

In addition to the microphone, there is also a stereo mixer in the window. This is a system device and cannot be found on the motherboard. It is responsible for mixing channels. And if you need to capture full audio, not just a microphone, then you should choose a stereo mixer as your default device. Other programs (Audacity) allow you to make changes on the fly. Under linear input refers to blue jack (see above).

Skype

Now it is not necessary to install Skype, because an online version has appeared (web.skype.com/ru/). To do this you need to install a plugin on your browser.

After this, you will need to give permissions to the firewall, and you can start communicating. The downside is that there is no test call option. But if everything is configured according to our instructions, then special problems must not be. To test the microphone, use any audio capture program, including the one built into Windows Recording vote. IN new Windows 10 at incorrect settings microphone will display a warning that it is additional guarantee and at the same time - a signal to perform the check.

This means that apps are not allowed to use the microphone. Then here, in the sound recording, you need to go to the parameters and give permission. Otherwise the microphone will not work.

In the installed Skype application, internal settings simultaneously change the system microphone gain. You need to remember this and check them periodically manually according to the scheme described above.

How to play sound on PC

First, you need to figure out how the computer reproduces sound. IN analog interfaces a digital binary signal from music or video files is converted into a continuous one. First in the chain of converters are software or codecs that unpack the audio file and allow the media player to then read the audio data. After processing, data from the central software core enters the sound card, where binary conversion occurs digital signal into analog audio and its pre-amplification. Next, the information is sent to a sound-reproducing device, headphones or speakers.

Exist various formats, and each has its own specifics, which the scope of the review does not allow us to discuss. Therefore, it is usually considered sufficient to download from the Internet and install the K-Lite Codec Pack. This package comes with its own very nice player.

Setting up sound on a computer in the operating room Windows environment performed both using standard system tools and using third party utilities(which are better not to use). Below we will look at setting up sound using standard tools found on any computer. To do this, go to the “Start” menu, then “Toolbar” and select the icon labeled “Sound”. Settings that can be made using this standard utility the following:

All of the above actions will only be possible if the drivers for interaction between the sound card and motherboard. These drivers usually come on a disk included with the card, or on the Realtek website (rarely on another). To check whether the drivers are installed correctly, you must proceed as follows.

From the Start menu, hover over My Computer and open the properties menu using the right mouse button. Go to properties, then click on the line that says “ Extra options System" (for Windows 7 and higher, for Windows XP this step is not required) and in the window that opens, go to the "Hardware" tab. After that, click the “Device Manager” button and you can see all the devices installed in the system. Next, in the tree, expand the “Sound, video and gaming devices” node and make sure that the devices are functioning correctly (there is no yellow icon with an exclamation mark). If there are any problems, you should reinstall the drivers.

If, after all of the above, the sound is still missing or is not reproduced correctly, you need to check the sound-reproducing device. The socket in which it is included must be Green colour. You also need to check the integrity of the cable and try to play, for example, a song using third party source(for example, phone, player, etc.). If there is no sound or severe distortion, it means that the speakers or headphones have a problem and need to be repaired or replaced.

Quite often, users encounter the loss of sound on a computer running Windows 7. There are many reasons for this. Some are quite simple. And sometimes it takes several days to find a problem. This short review is dedicated to how to find and fix the breakdown.

Non-working speakers

Let's consider possible options breakdowns:

These measures are basic, but you shouldn’t forget about them. If the check didn't yield anything, then it's time to move on.

Hardware audio settings

After obvious faults have been checked, it is worth paying attention to software settings sound. It is quite possible that the sound in Windows is turned down or completely turned off. If it is reduced so much that it is barely audible, then the user will most likely assume that the computer itself has broken down.

It’s best to see visually how the sound is adjusted at Windows example 7, on Windows 8 and 10 the principle of operation is the same:

Let's look at the functions of the window that opens in more detail:

If you are unable to play the test sound, you should check to see if the sound is turned down to the minimum value or turned off altogether:

Check Device Manager

If there is no sound on the computer under Windows control 7, as well as operating systems Windows 10 and other versions, you should check the status of the mini-programs (drivers) for the sound card. Most likely, they need to be updated or they are not there at all.

You can check the status of the equipment and its drivers in “ Device Manager", which is easy to find in Control panels on the " System».

Systematically displays all devices that are present on a computer or laptop, as well as the status of their drivers. If a yellow triangle is lit nearby, you should pay attention to it first. This means that the sound card is not working at all or is not working correctly. In our case, we are interested in the item “ Sound, video and gaming devices».

If a problem is identified due to which the sound does not work, you need to download and install a driver that is compatible with this PC. You can keep your computer up to date using special utilities for automatic updating and searching current version drivers for any hardware on a PC or laptop. For example, the program Everest will determine the sound card model, check all drivers for relevance and tell you where to find them necessary drivers for sound on Windows 7.

When you monitor the current state of your computer and conduct regular updates, then during the next automatic driver update you may encounter the problem of no sound. The source of the problem may be an updated driver. "" will help restore the working situation. On the " Driver» of your sound card, you must click the Rollback button.

If the problem disappears, it is better to disable automatic update drivers for this device.

Updating drivers in Windows 10

The algorithm of actions consists of the following steps:

No codecs for audio/video

If there is sound in the browsers, but there is no sound when you start the video on the PC, then you should look for the problem either in the media player itself or in the audio codecs.

To constantly watch videos, it is recommended to use KMR player. He has already proven himself and is showing good results. The creators of the program have provided a lot of different codecs for video playback. And, as a rule, most films are successfully reproduced in this program.

The problem with codecs can be radically solved using the package K-Lite Codec Pack. It can solve the missing sound problem. He has full set current codecs that open almost all popular formats, both video and audio files.

Viruses and adware

Problems with sound on Windows 7 may mean that a virus has appeared in the system. There are many types of viruses and they can negatively affect the operating system.

How to behave if the sound on your computer disappears and you suspect a virus:

  • Take a close look at how your computer works as a whole. If it begins to freeze frequently or suddenly slow down, then most likely the PC has been subjected to virus attack. If installed antivirus program failed and missed the virus attack, then it’s best to check the system third-party antivirus with current virus databases. For example, you can use the utility Dr.Web CureIt. This healing utility successfully cures an infected system.
  • You can try checking your computer using Live CD(emergency boot disk). You can use it to download a lightweight version operating system with a ready-made antivirus. If you boot the restored system from Live CD sound appears, then most likely there is a malfunction in Windows 10 itself. Most often, you will have to reinstall it or perform a system restore using restore points, if this mode was enabled and restore points were created.

Checking the BIOS settings

If your computer or laptop has a built-in sound card and there is no sound even in headphones, then you can look BIOS.

This is an extreme measure - AC97 is enabled by default in the factory settings. If the settings are lost, then sound device in the operating room Windows system won't work.

Each computer logs into the BIOS differently. For example, for ACER computers, before booting the system, you must press and hold the Del key. In general, before loading the operating system, you must indicate how to enter the BIOS.

After pressing the Del key, the following dialog box will open, in which you need to select the item “ BIOS Setup».

In the window that opens, you need to find the inscription like AC 97 Audio, use the arrows on the keyboard to highlight this inscription and click on Enter key. A dialog box will appear to select which function to activate HD Audio or AC97. We are interested in the AC97 “Auto” inscription. Confirm your choice and use the ESC key to exit this section. Exit the BIOS, saving the settings.

If you can’t get the sound back after changing the BIOS settings, then the last option is to replace or send the sound card for repair.

Laptop owners often encounter the problem of no sound in the Windows system. Due to frequent overheating sound chipset the computer starts to malfunction. And all the rest of the electronic stuff simply suffocates with dust, unless, of course, you do regular cleaning, and gradually breaks down, which can also lead to loss of sound on the laptop.

Conclusion

Of course, these are not all the reasons why there may be no sound, but the main, most common versions are revealed.

So, we told you how to restore sound in Windows 10, 7 and 8. And our main advice is not to despair, but to try all the options step by step.

Video on the topic

We all use our computers very often for entertainment. Watching a movie, TV series or playing a game on a laptop is a common thing on weekends or after work. But all this requires sound. If you don't know how to set up sound on your computer, then this article is for you.

Any application or game is always accompanied by sound effects

The first thing to start with is to make sure that the sound is turned on or the volume level is sufficient to hear it. On the right, in the lower corner of the screen, on the taskbar, you can find an icon representing a speaker. By clicking on it with the left mouse button, you will see a scale on which the sound level is displayed. By moving it higher or lower (left and right on newer systems), you can make it louder or quieter.

If you are using additional audio equipment - speakers, check that they are correct physical connection to the computer. It may be that everything is correctly connected to the appropriate connector, however, the device does not play sound. The problem may be that this device is not selected in the PC audio settings. To correct this annoying misunderstanding, right-click on the same speaker icon and select “Playback devices” in the menu that appears. If you have several devices displayed in this list, try assigning another one as playback device. After selecting the one you need from the list, click “Properties”. In the window that opens, on the “General” tab, set “Use this device (on)” in the “Use of device” item. By going to the adjacent “Levels” tab, you can adjust the speaker volume level. To check the sound, go to the “Advanced” tab. There you will find the “Check” button, by clicking on which you can hear the sound from the device you previously selected. Be sure to check the sound level on the speakers themselves, having configured everything in the system; it may turn out that the volume control is on sound equipment set to minimum.

The next nuance when setting up sound on a PC is, of course, the drivers; very often the problem lies precisely there. Without right installed drivers your computer hardware will not work properly. To figure out whether this is really the problem, open “Control Panel”, then “Hardware and Sound” and click “Device Manager”. After this, a window will open in front of you with a list of almost everything hardware your PC. In this list you need to find “Sound, game and video devices”.

If such an item is present, and next to it is Exclamation point- this means that the driver is missing or does not work correctly. All you need to do is install the appropriate driver. You can download it from the website of your laptop manufacturer. If you use a desktop PC, you will have to search by sound card model. To make your task easier, special software can find everything on its own. necessary drivers, one such utility is Everest. Reinstalling may also fix the problem if you have installed drivers previously. It may also be that a simple update will fix all the troubles.

If this item is completely absent, this may mean that either you have a computer without a sound card (which, of course, is unlikely), or the PC does not see the sound card or it is faulty. Here you need to check the card for functionality, and if it does not work, replace it with another one. There is another option - try turning on the device through the BIOS. More details about this method below.

Another option is when all system sounds work as they should, but for some reason there is no sound while watching a video. It's all about codecs here. Installing audio and video players, for example, VLC, can solve this problem. Media Player, KMP, download K-Lite Codec Pack. After installation, sound should appear in the video, just don’t forget to specify in the video file properties the right application, which will reproduce it.

Now let's move on to the above-mentioned setting in the BIOS. In general, it should be noted that this is extremely rare, since the sound card is enabled by default. However, anything can happen.
