    Powerful, nice design big screen.

Sound. For a budget laptop, it’s just cool - The case has space for installing a second 2.5 hdd, but the contacts are not soldered, but I think if you want, you can get 2 hard drives - A 17.3 screen after 15.6 seems like a fairy tale (more on the cons below) - Good color rendering -Nice, non-staining plastic -Good video, but can't handle the latest games -The screen cover fits tightly and doesn't loosen -The build quality is very good

Price, screen diagonal, good filling for the money for which I bought it (22 thousand rubles). MEGA SOUND. Customizable function buttons on a laptop, on which you can hang a number of very useful functions, such as turning off the screen. I was also pleased with the pleasant appearance.

Price/quality: at this price there are simply no laptops with such a screen and parameters. Replaceable panel. Windows Experience Index: Processor 7.5 Memory (RAM) 7.8 Graphics 6.7 Gaming Graphics 6.7 Basic HDD 5.9 I also liked that as soon as it starts to heat up, the fan turns on and instantly cools it down. It heats up very little. P.S. Core i7 3612QM 2100 Mhz/17.3"/1600x900/8192Mb/1000Gb/DVD-RW/NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth/Win 7 HB 64

Purchased before new year, happy those are only happy with the floor. And the following makes me happy: 1) Replaceable panels. For me personally, this is very convenient. I covered it with stickers, and it turned out very well. 2) Processor. I took the i5, the performance index showed a confident 7.1! This is a high indicator for a laptop. 3) The screen. IT’S BIG!) I’m very pleased) There are certainly some shortcomings with the angle, but this is not entirely critical, and I won’t call it a disadvantage. 4) Convenient multimedia buttons. 5) Video card. All games are a blast! Such as battlefield3, NFS shift2, NFS HP fly on ultra. Of course, I had to turn down the Vanthede 12 bridge, because it slowed down, but I turned it down by 14. A strong video card for such a price. 6) It doesn’t heat up much. The maximum temperature I saw was 64 degrees. Although the Intel fifth, as far as I know, heats up to 90. 7) A sufficient number of USB ports (4 pieces!) This is only a small part

    1. powerful processor, 2. gaming video, 3. good screen, 4. good build quality, 5. regarding Wi-Fi, everything is fine. works, good signal, I saw that they are making mistakes on WiFi... I can’t say that... I’m just happy with the purchase... 6. very quiet

Low heat, acceptable viewing angles, acceptable battery life for a relatively large laptop

    2 years ago 0

About the advantages of everything that is described by others, not everything is rosy. But for me it was that the power plug is on the left, and not on the right like in HP laptops. This is very convenient, since the mouse does not touch the power cord and does not get in the way of your hand. And subsequently, according to others, the HP plug simply comes loose and costs 1500 rubles. buy new charger. What else? Availability of 4 USB connectors. Good ergonomics. All other characteristics, such as a large screen, etc. There is no point in listing them, these are characteristics, not advantages. In general, it really looks like a good workhorse. Probably toys work well too, but I’m not interested in that.

    2 years ago 0

There is not enough key backlighting (a problem with many laptops), otherwise everything is fine.

    Glossy screen
-The quality of the matrix leaves much to be desired, the viewing angle is depressing especially in height
-The keyboard is narrow, there is no numlock indicator
-The touchpad is difficult to navigate due to its non-slip coating
-I had to tinker with wi-fi settings to make it work at 150mbit

    2 years ago 0

The screen is weak, I agree with previous reviews, but this is not critical.

    2 years ago 0

The subwoofer clicks when the volume changes, especially audible in headphones (turned it off) I worked for a year and a half and died, I didn’t use it because I don’t really care about computers, net and films. I gave it away under warranty, they haven’t done it yet.

    2 years ago 0

Screen viewing angle, glossy screen. Heavy weight. I work sitting down, always on my knees, but what do you want from 17". The touchpad is a bit heavy, it doesn’t glide well, especially when your hands get a little sweaty. The screen is weak and doesn’t recline 360 degrees, which is what I liked so much about my previous friend. A bunch of unnecessary stuff (old) software!!!

    2 years ago 0

The keyboard is non-standard, it is a little narrower than all the others. At first it is not possible to type blindly, because... All the buttons are shifted and you constantly press the button next to them. Of course, you get used to such a keyboard, but not right away. There are no more shortcomings.

    2 years ago 0

Heavy. For many this is important, but what did you want from the 17th laptop?) Every day I go to Instagram with it, I don’t complain.
The charge doesn’t last long, namely about 3 hours, and if you play a normal game, it can run out of charge in an hour. But now there are sockets everywhere)

Glitchy WiFi and Bluetooth; very slow hard drive; keyboard inconvenient for serious typing

    2 years ago 0

But all the advantages are covered by important disadvantages.
    1. The screen is very weak in quality, I don’t know why, but it’s better on my old Sunsung. Maybe you need to get used to it.
    2. Under Windows, the subwoofer sometimes cracks, they talked about this in the reviews here. Not critical of course, but it is puzzling why this is so.
    3. Windows 7 was installed, but I don’t like it because... It really slows down even just bare, unlike Linux. I installed Ubuntu and Mint, everything is buzzing, but WiFi is not detected anywhere. You need dancing with a tambourine to make friends. Still haven't figured out how to do this. those. Only wired Ethernet works.
    4. The most important drawback, no one wrote about it, maybe it’s just me who was so lucky. A problem with heating hard disk. The disk itself is located
exactly under your left hand, if you put your hand t

Good day to all! The typewriter and man have gone hand in hand for more than two hundred years, continuing their journey to this day. If we talk about printing presses, even more so. Over time, the tool only improves. Only the goal remains the same: transmission, reproduction and storage of information. And in our era we can see many branches of evolution and progress in this area. One of them is a laptop.

My first review is being presented to the public and it is dedicated to a laptop from Dell, the inspiron 17R series. There are many variations on this laptop, which differ not only in the presence of a video card, but also in processors from i3 to i7, respectively, as well as in volume random access memory and hard drive. I came across 5720-6015.

Specifications

Processor i3-2370M. It has improved integration of Intel HD Graphics 3000 and Hyper-threading technology. Which gives him the opportunity to cope with the everyday tasks of the average user. Its heat dissipation is 35 TDP. Using Turbo Boost, the clock speed can be increased to 2.4 GHz.

Motherboard

Nvidia GeForce 630M video card. With DDR3 memory type and 128-bit bus width.

I tested it in several games and the results are as follows:
Darksiders II at medium fps settings stayed at ~40, when switching to ultra it dropped to ~20;
Battlefield 3 at low ~40fps, medium ~24 and ultra ~16fps;
For fans of Diablo 3 there is more joyful news: at low ~100fps, at high and medium ~60fps, in ultra mode fps did not rise above 30.
You can play, but it still lacks power, and this video card is unlikely to be suitable for lovers of demanding games.

Net
Wi-Fi: 802.11b/g/n
Bluetooth: 4.0
LAN: 10/100
Webcam: 1.3 megapixel
Hard drive from Seagate Momentus at 5400 rpm
Hard disk capacity 500GB.

This laptop with its dimensions (41.6 x 3.7 x 27.7 cm) is a heavyweight, in the truest sense of the word.
It has a diagonal of 17.3" (glossy) with a resolution of 1600x900 and a weight of about 3.5 kg

A few words about the configuration

The box from this miracle technology has not changed the traditions of its company. And therefore, the task entrusted to her was completed with a bang, unless someone wants to try himself in the role of Galileo. The package itself includes the following components:
User manual and installation disk;
Power adapter

And the laptop itself

Internals and interfaces

No backlash was found during testing.
The hard drive and RAM are quite easy to access.
All you need to do is unscrew two screws on the back side and lift the cover.
Before

There is a second slot for expanding memory capacity. The stock comes with 4GB of RAM, which can be upgraded to 8GB. The RAM is from hynix, so increasing it will not be difficult.

The number of USB connectors will be sufficient for everyday use without fanaticism. And there are exactly 4 of them and all are USB 3.0, this fact cannot but rejoice. HDMI is also available, which will surprise few people these days. VGA input, LAN port and one input for headphones and microphone.

Operation indicators

Card reader powered by flash cards in SD/MMC, MS/Pro formats

Card reader plug

For those who like to emphasize their individuality, replaceable top covers.
Removed as follows

This is what it looks like without it

By the way, it will be an excellent place for storing sheets (20 pieces of A4 format, no longer, as it has become noticeably harder to snap into place) or something else.

Ergonomics

The layout of the keys is more or less standard. For those who like to print dark time days in poor lighting there is a disadvantage expressed in the absence of backlight. However, printing on it is quite convenient.

The keyboard panel is made of glossy plastic, and therefore absorbs scratches very well.

Touchpad. Good. Unfortunately, towards the end of testing, the buttons began to peel off around the edges. This fact does not sound very rosy, especially when looking into the future...

Made from a material that is rougher to the touch compared to the surrounding panel.

But there are also tasty things. I'll start from left to right. Firstly, the button responsible for the "Center Windows mobility", which hides quick access to functions: wi-fi; Bluetooth; screen and sound settings; battery charge percentage.
Next comes the button for selecting equalizer settings. And the trio is completed by a key that leads to the assignment of “hot keys”.

About the battery

Volume 4180mAh Type 8858X 11.1V
Tested it using BatteryEater

In classic mode, at 100 monitor brightness, it lasted - around 1.35 after the laptop demanded food (at 8% charge)
When watching the video, the picture changed slightly - about 3 hours. But still, with such dimensions it was possible to install a larger battery capacity.

A little about sound

Not having the necessary equipment and knowledge in this area, I can only give a subjective assessment. Compared to other laptops, the hero of today's review has pretty good sound. But sometimes the volume is not enough.

Let's move on to the test results

For lovers of Windows ratings

During the tests, cool air blew, and only towards the end did warm air begin to flow.

Results of the donut run

Not very much, but we are happy with what we have.
It is worth noting that the “hairy” identified the card as 620M, but later corrected himself and began to show 630M.

aida64 extreme edition also could not warm up more than 65"

Conclusion

This dinosaur, like its class, is used primarily as a replacement desktop computer. This is confirmed by the not so strong battery, and the weight and dimensions at the ready. This laptop will definitely find its buyer. But, due to its characteristics, or rather the video card, I would not recommend it to fans of heavy games. And for people whose work involves computing, I advise you to look for a version with a more powerful processor. That's why he gets the title of a typewriter.
Thank you for your attention. I was with you.
P.S. I apologize for the quality of the photos and possible errors.

Today we will return to the topic of 17-inch laptops, which can completely replace a home PC. The segment being considered today does not imply use for any particularly resource-intensive entertainment, such as modern games or “heavy” programs for photo or video processing. and are devices designed for watching movies, surfing the Internet, and solving everyday problems for the whole family - from work to school.

Budget options, the price tag of which ranges from 25,000 to 27,000 rubles, will be of interest to people traveling, students living in dormitories, and families with average incomes who want to be able to easily and quickly transport their computer.

If your appetite and demands are higher, we recommend that you look at NOTIK for one of the more powerful options.

So, the screen diagonal of all laptops examined today is 17 inches. These displays are all mirrored, and none of them have FullHD resolution, which, however, is expected for this class of laptops. But to look at the devices themselves, we first need to look inside the attractive boxes and look at the entire package. Let's start with it!

Equipment

It is not difficult to assume that in similar laptops in this segment, the equipment will not particularly shine. That’s right - in the boxes they only contain charging device, batteries, documentation and the laptops themselves.

Users should take into account that laptops, which are stationary on a table most of the time, accumulate a fantastic amount of dust in their insides. Despite the fact that even when new, these devices heat up quite significantly, after several months of use, having become fairly dusty, they will heat up extremely significantly. In order to avoid these troubles at least partially, it is recommended to permanent basis Once every couple of weeks, blow out the laptop using a special pneumatic sprayer and install it at home on a special stand with additional coolers for better cooling. Of course, you can find all these little things necessary for everyday life that prolong the life of your electronic friend in NOTIK stores.

Design

The color of the top cover of this laptop is simply unique and fantastically WEIRD. It looks like a soap dish, yes, like the one in which you put scented soap. The case provides interchangeable covers of different (no less invigorating) colors. This idea really takes us back to the days when replacing a replaceable panel on an old mobile phone was the height of elegance. This laptop is too plump and looks like a toy, since to implement the idea with replaceable covers, perhaps it would have been worth giving the device itself a more “strict” look.

The island-type keyboard is not poorly made. It is quite pleasant to work on it, the keys are slightly rounded, and the markings are clearly visible. On the other side of the power key at the top there are three built-in additional keys to launch settings mode or other actions that you can configure yourself.

The touchpad is a comfortable size. It is convenient to use, there is an indicator of its activation, buttons good size, there are no complaints about his work.

Lenovo looks quite attractive. The aluminum lid is on top, and the aluminum work surface is pleasant to the touch and looks presentable. The rounded keyboard buttons are extremely comfortable, the characters on them are perfectly readable, and the touchpad is large and usable.

Note that although the case looks good, traces of use are very noticeable on it - stains and fingerprints will have to be wiped off with a special cloth.

As always, next to the power button there is a button to activate the Lenovo Recovery system recovery utility, which will help you reinstall the OS with one button, returning the factory settings, which can be especially important if the laptop is used by a whole family, and there is a risk of having inoperative or malicious software.

The body is completely made of dark glossy plastic, forget about cool aluminum and get ready for colorful stains of traces of use. The laptop subtly resembles a burnt, heavily oiled pie, but it cannot be said that it looks repulsive - the budget segment also has uglier models.

The build quality could also be better, the plastic is durable, but in some places there are backlashes and small gaps. After some time, these gaps will become clogged with dust, which can negatively affect the operation of the device.

The keyboard is not the most convenient for typing, it flexes and rattles a little, which is not particularly pleasing from an aesthetic point of view; the touchpad, on the contrary, is quite comfortable, has a pleasant-to-the-touch rough finish and a touch element for turning it off in the upper left part (activated by double tapping ).

All the main characteristics of these three laptops, if not the same, are at least extremely similar. Moderately powerful filling based on the same dual-core Intel Core i5 processor from the current Ivy Bridge line, a large amount of RAM, and a discrete graphics card nVidia GeForce GT 630M (in the case of Dell and Lenovo) and Radeon HD 7670 (in the case of HP Pavilion g7). This filling allows you to cope with the full range of “home” tasks that can be assigned to a 17-inch replacement for a desktop PC, with the exception, perhaps, of the latest generation of demanding video games or “heavy” programs for professional activities.

The situation is slightly different with the volume of the hard drive, because for a home computer the storage capacity is important - the entire home collection of films, music and other things will be stored there. Dell and HP offer us 750 gigabytes each to store all this, which, in our opinion, is more than enough. Lenovo goes even further and installs a 1000 gigabyte hard drive on its laptop (apparently, for special fans of thematic videos in 1080p format).

All three laptops are equipped with webcams for communicating via the Internet, all of them are of fairly “budget” quality; according to subjective assessment, the camera in the HP Pavilion g7-2160sr produces images slightly best quality. Also, all these laptops are equipped with all necessary devices wireless connection for Internet surfing or working with external devices like a Bluetooth mouse.

Screen

It's a rare occasion when three laptops with almost identical displays ended up on our table. All of them have a resolution of 1600x900 pixels, a size of 17 inches diagonally and a glossy finish. Laptops are expected to be desktop replacements and won't leave the house very often, so it made sense to use glossy displays rather than matte ones. After all, such matrices produce richer and more vibrant colors, although they can glare. This is exactly the situation we see here - the viewing angles are not very good, but the color rendition, brightness and “richness” of the picture are at the level.

Sound

First, let's scold Lenovo's creation for the incomprehensible, quiet and nondescript speakers located on the bottom of the laptop, in the corners of the case on the right and left.

HP will follow, which is unlike its closest relatives, equipped Beats system Audio sounds frankly unimportant. We sincerely recommend that movie fans look into NOTIK and purchase small and compact external speakers for a very affordable price - and you won’t have to listen to the sound attempts of the puny HP Pavilion g7-2160sr speakers.

Dell did the best job here. The volume limit in her laptop is not too high, but the sound is clear and of sufficient quality (for a device of this class and price, of course, so you shouldn’t expect a miracle from Dell Inspiron 5720, it is only better than its two competitors in today's review).

Contents of delivery

The delivery package for both laptops is completely identical and does not differ in variety: the laptop itself, power supply, battery and the necessary documentation (quick start guide, license agreement on software Dell and safety, environmental and regulatory information).

Design

If you look at the Dell Inspiron 5520 and Dell Inspiron 5720 from above, below or from the side, then any radical differences, other than size, are unlikely to immediately catch your eye - a bright cover with the company logo, a plastic bottom with a removable battery, rounded corners of the case - all this is like business card one for two, typical signs of two twin brothers. However, taking a closer look, it becomes clear that they still differ in some ways.

Both laptops, which we had the pleasure of meeting in person, are made in the same color scheme– combinations of black, pink and several shades gray colors. The top cover has recently become a highlight of some models in the Inspiron line. Its secret is that the bright colored panel is removable and can be replaced with another, no less colorful: red, silver or blue (gray and blue for the 17-inch sample). The operation of changing the image of a laptop is performed as simply as possible, by pulling a special slider, which is located at the bottom of the lid.

To be honest, during the acquaintance process, I got a rather mixed impression from the removable SWITCH panel, which is designed to emphasize the individuality and originality of the laptop. On the one hand, this is a bold and very unusual decision, because it’s very easy to get lost in today’s “crowd” of laptops, but on the other hand, I’m somehow not entirely happy with the implementation of this project. It all starts with the fact that after several procedures for dismantling the panel, a very noticeable gap appears between it and the base, that is, assumptions immediately arise that after frequent transformations of the cover, the socket will simply begin to “hang out” in its compartment. Well, secondly, the popular wisdom is confirmed that beauty requires sacrifice, and laptops 5720 and 5520 paid for their originality with a thicker lid, and this, as you know, is one of the reasons for the increase in weight of the laptop. By the way, the 15-inch Dell Inspiron 5520-1490 weighs 2.75 kg, and the 17-inch 5720-9733 weighs 3.23 kg.

On the bottom of Inspiron laptops there are features like top cover, you won't find it. It is made of plastic, has a rough surface, where traditionally there are four rubber feet, a removable battery, several ventilation grilles, a removable cover for access to the hard drive and RAM strips, and also, closer to the front end, two speakers. Besides this, you won’t find anything else on the bottom of the 5520-1490, but the 5720-9733 has prepared a pleasant surprise - on the left side, if you look at the photo of the inverted laptop, you can see a square grille in the upper corner, behind which the subwoofer is hidden. Unexpected, right? We will talk about its role and quality of work a little later, but its very presence already indicates that the model has a multimedia vocation.

In general, the design of the Dell Inspiron 5520 and 5720 laptops can be considered interesting. The soft lines of the body and a balanced combination of colors create the image of a good-quality laptop. It cannot be called elegant or aristocratic; rather, due to its rather significant thickness, it looks more like a well-fed, well-fed, strong man who will become a reliable assistant and companion. Due to its large size, the 17-inch model is more suitable for office or home use, and the younger, 15-inch model can easily accompany those who are not afraid to carry an almost three-kilogram bag with a laptop when traveling.

The dimensions of the Dell Inspiron 5520-1490 are 378x252x30.03-34.1 mm, and the Dell Inspiron 5720-9733 are 416.8x276x31.9-37.37 mm. Both the first and second laptops make a good impression with decent assembly and the use of quality materials.

Display, sound, webcam

The frame design of the display of the two laptops does not stand out from the overall style; the screen is squeezed into a frame made of matte black plastic, which is very difficult to leave fingerprints on. The frame itself, in turn, is edged with a rubber track, which not only protrudes forward, preventing close contact of the display with the keyboard, but also occupies half of the side edge of the lid, which also plays a protective role. In the upper part of the frame above the display there is a webcam peephole, an indicator and a microphone, and in the lower part there is a letter designation of the model series.

The tested laptops have different displays, and this applies not only to the diagonal. The smaller model, the 15-inch Dell Inspiron 5520, which came into our hands, has a widescreen glossy 15.6" display high definition, with a brightness level of 200 nits and a resolution of 1366x768 pixels. Unfortunately, it was not possible to avoid image conversion when changing the angle of the display, but what the 15-inch sample shows us is not at all critical; it can be easily adjusted. The matrix is made using simple TN+film technology, therefore, you can’t expect exceptional image contrast, but working with the Dell Inspiron 5520 in this regard is very comfortable.

But the Inspiron 5720 continues to live up to its multimedia purpose. Its display dimensions are 17.3", still the same widescreen, increased clarity and brightness of 200 nits, but this is already with more high resolution– 1600x900 pixels. The picture on the display is well detailed, contrasty and rich, therefore, watching movies with such a mini-cinema will be very interesting. Viewing angles, as in the case of the smaller model, are not ideal; the image is somewhat distorted when changing the position of the lid, but this in no way diminishes the pleasant impression of the capabilities of this multimedia budget phone.

Both the Dell Inspiron 5520 and the Dell Inspiron 5720 laptops use two speakers located on the bottom border with the front beveled edge for audio playback. This location causes the sound to be output from below, which is initially somewhat unusual, but this does not affect the perception of the quality of the music as a whole. The sound is clear, balanced in frequency, and quite loud. The built-in Waves MaxxAudio 3 audio system is responsible for all this.

In order to adjust the sound quality to your personal preferences, you can use the Dell Audio program.

It has already been noted that the 17-inch model is equipped with a subwoofer located on the bottom of the laptop. This speaker system significantly adds bass, making the music richer and deeper. This is exactly what distinguishes the Dell Inspiron 5720 from its younger brother, demonstrating for now the advantages of an exclusively multimedia nature.

The picture broadcast by the webcam is a very clear image, with no pronounced noise. This means that communication on Skype will be of sufficient quality.

Keyboard and touchpad

I would immediately like to note that there are no significant differences between the styles and quality of the keyboards of the two Dell models, except for the additional numeric keypad and compressed arrow keys on the 17-inch laptop. The island-type keyboard with small, rounded buttons is located on a glossy backing. The work area is made of matte polished dark gray plastic, which is stylish and very practical solution, since such a surface is resistant to greasing and staining.

Row function buttons placed in the very top row of the keyboard surface; they are smaller compared to the main keys and are marked in orange. Above the keyboard, at the base of the left hinge of the lid, there is a large power button for the laptop, which has a built-in LED - when the laptop is turned on, it is constantly illuminated in white.

On the opposite side of the power key, above the keyboard, there are three additional buttons, which perform auxiliary functions.

The rightmost one is the Dell Instant Launch control wizard, which can be assigned to any of the available functions (for example, mute the sound, update the web browser, etc.) and carry out its quick implementation. When a specified action is activated, the key begins to light up.

The middle button allows you to determine the profile for the sound card: music, movie, game, voice communication.

The left button is the Windows Mobility Center, which displays the most popular settings such as battery, sound, display brightness, wireless connections and more.

As mentioned above, the 17-inch model, due to its increased size, is additionally equipped digital block, and also has smaller arrow buttons. For users who actively use the arrow block for scrolling, playing games, etc., this is a rather inconvenient solution. Here, in fact, is all the information on the keyboard. Personal impression - a keyboard of this type is very comfortable and functional, the keys are pressed softly, do not create much noise during operation, except that the only significant drawback is the pressed buttons of the arrow block on the Dell Inspiron 5720, but, in the end, you can also get used to this.

The touchpad, both on the Dell Inspiron 5520 and the Dell Inspiron 5720, is recessed relative to the working surface. It features two dedicated buttons and an activity light that glows bright yellow when the touchpad is disabled. In relation to the area of the palm area, such a touchpad is neither large nor small, it is absolutely enough for comfortable work without the use of a computer mouse. It can recognize two-finger gestures, which means performing functions such as zooming or rotating will be a breeze for it.

Setting up and managing the touch zone is done using the Dell touchpad program, where several tabs are available to adjust sensitivity, buttons, gestures, set edge scrolling and zoom.

The only difference between the tested laptops regarding the touch panel will be its location - on the smaller model it is placed clearly in the middle of the palm surface, while on the 17-inch laptop it is shifted closer to the left side.

Performance

Both laptops came to us with the Linux operating system preinstalled. We installed Windows 8, on the basis of which the tests were carried out.

The system performance index of the younger model was 4.5 points, the lowest graphics indicator. All other components scored higher, respectively: the processor - 6.9 points, RAM and hard drive - 5.9 points each, graphics for games - 6.0 points. A very, very good result for our modest budget employee.

The 17-inch Dell Inspiron 5720 did not stand out in anything special in this regard, the overall rating of its performance was slightly lower - 4.4 points, again the built-in video card turned out to be the “weak link”, the processor scored 6.9 points, RAM - 5.9 points, graphics for games - 6.1 points and hard drive – 5.8 points. The game graphics turned out to be slightly better compared to the 5520, most likely due to different drivers.

The manufacturer has well equipped the Dell Inspiron 5520-1490 and Dell Inspiron 5720-9733 laptops - the decision to install a fairly powerful dual-core Intel Core i3-2370M processor with a built-in Intel HD Graphics 3000 video card in budget models deserves respect. This CPU operates at 2.4 GHz (Turbo Boost is not supported, so this is the maximum), is built according to the standards of the 32-nanometer Sandy Bridge architecture and has a 3 MB level 3 cache. So to speak, a good average product, the capabilities of which are more than enough for an undemanding user.

Both laptops offer 4GB of DDR3 RAM. From the screenshot you can see that the declared operating frequency of the controller is 1600 MHz, but in reality this figure is no more than 1333 MHz. A completely logical phenomenon, since second generation processors, in principle, do not support more high frequency memory. There are two slots for expanding the volume, so if suddenly 4096 MB of memory is not enough for the user, it is possible to increase it.

Intel integrated into second-generation processors is responsible for solving graphics problems. Intel video card HD Graphics 3000. Of course, this is not a top-end option, but it is quite a productive solution with which you can work and play not too heavy games. HD Graphics 3000 operates at a frequency of 350-1350 MHz, has 12 computing units and, like all integrated video cards, does not have its own dedicated memory.

As for the available configurations of this Dell model in general, the manufacturer offers a wide range where you can choose for every taste and pocket. So, these laptops are equipped with processors ranging from the second generation Core i3 to the third generation Core i7, with built-in HD 3000 and graphics, as well as an additional discrete graphics card. Depending on the installed processor, the operating frequency of the memory controller changes accordingly.

The laptop's graphics performance is determined by the synthetic benchmarks 3DMark06 and 3DMark 11, but since our video card does not support DirectX 11, we were able to test it only in 3DMark06. Since both the Dell Inspiron 5520 and the Dell Inspiron 5720 have similar equipment, the results were almost identical - overall score 3689 points, SM2.0 - 1223, HDR/SM3.0 - 1489, CPU - 2957 points. For obvious reasons, we are posting one screenshot for two.

In the graph below, it can be noted that our 15-inch sample took second place among the compared budget models, behind the Dell Inspiron 15 (3521) laptop with a built-in HD 4000 graphics card.

In the Cinebench R11.5 test, as expected, the results also do not differ, 9.40 fps in OpenGL mode, and 2.29 pts - processor performance.

And a graph for comparison with the results of other budget models.

But it turns out that not everything is identical inside the 5520 and 5720 laptops - they are equipped with different hard drives. Dell Inspiron 5520-1490 received a 500 GB Seagate Momentus Thin ST500LT012-9WS142 drive with a speed of 5400 RPM, connected via SATA interface II. Having tested it with the HD Tune Pro 5.00 utility, it became clear that this is a fairly fast hard drive, the volume and power of which is completely sufficient for everyday tasks. According to the test results, its minimum read speed is 44.3 MB/s, average 82.2 MB/s, maximum 106.7 MB/s. Access speed is estimated at 18.3 ms.

For some reason, the Dell Inspiron 5720-9733 was slightly limited in this matter, equipped with a less fast Seagate Momentus 5400.6 ST9500325AS with similar characteristics - 500 GB, SATA II, 5400 rpm. And he showed himself to be slower during testing, typing minimum speed reading 36.9 MB/s, average 60 MB/s, maximum 78.2 MB/s, and lagging behind the competitor in access speed by exactly one millisecond - 19.3.

We created a comparison chart based on the Dell Inspiron 5520 results, resulting in:

To present a more complete picture, it was necessary to find out the write speed using CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1, and this is what we got: the Dell Inspiron 5520 hard drive is still in the lead, ahead of its opponent in almost all results when testing sequential writing and reading. Below you can see for yourself the results provided in the screenshots.

As usual, we end our performance testing with the comprehensive PCMark 7 benchmark, which determines the performance level of laptops through a load that emulates seven different laptop usage scenarios. The overall result for the two Dell Inspirons was almost the same, as was the result for each of the seven scenarios. In total, the total score was 2297 points, Lightweight 1915 points, Productivity 1214 points, Creativity 4846 points, Entertainment 2115 points, Computation 11434 points, Storage 1641 points.

The comparison graph clearly demonstrates that among competitive 15-inch budget laptops, the Dell Inspiron 5520 is predictably inferior to the Dell Inspiron 15 (3521).

Games

Considering that our tested laptop models are not designed to solve demanding gaming tasks, you shouldn't expect much performance. However, Intel HD Graphics 3000 is not at all an outsider in the video card camp, and indeed Intel processor The Core i3-2370M is very decent, so you can play some games with the Dell Inspiron 5520 and 5720, and quite comfortably.

To test gaming performance, we chose two options of different severity - the football simulator FIFA 13 and the well-known strategy StarCraft II. On both laptops, games were played with maximum resolution– 1600x900 pixels and 1366x768 pixels. As a result, FIFA 13 will run at medium settings with 21-30 fps, and StarCraft II with 15-21 fps on a 17-inch model. In the Dell Inspiron 5520, the figures were, accordingly, slightly higher - 26-35 fps FIFA 13 and 20-26 fps StarCraft II. The situation is clear - laptops demonstrate a good ability to play not too heavy games.

Ports and communications

The Dell Inspiron 5520 and 5720 ports are a particularly pleasant topic, because being the owner of four USB 3.0, using budget model, quite a significant advantage today. But let's take things in order.

The left side of both laptops contains a charging socket, VGA, HDMI ports, two USB 3.0 ports in a row (one of which can charge devices without turning on the laptop), microphone and headphone jacks. By the way, this is a rather ill-conceived option for such a crowded “dislocation” of USB ports, because It turns out that if you connect a mouse, then inserting a flash drive next to it will be problematic. And if you need to simultaneously, while working with a mouse, connect a laptop to a TV via HDMI, and even connect, for example, an external hard drive, then this will generally be a difficult task to complete.

The front edge is indicated by four indicators: laptop power on, hard drive operation, battery status and wireless networks. In addition, there is an 8-in-1 card reader. In the 17" model it is located almost in the center, while in the 15" it is shifted almost close to the left edge.

The right side of the Dell Inspiron 5520 and 5720 laptops is slightly different in the location of the connectors, and it seems that the older model turned out to be more ergonomic in this regard. The fact is that both samples on this side of the laptop have a Kensington lock, a connector for network cable, two more USB port 3.0 and optical drive DVD+/-RW. On the 15-inch laptop there is the same error on the left side, where both ports are in close proximity, but the 17-inch has received an adjustment - two USB 3.0 here are separated by a drive.

DVD+/-RW drive operating range estimated Nero program InfoTool, and according to the results, almost all formats for writing and reading CDs and DVD discs, in addition to +G and –ROM, high-definition HD DVD and BD formats are also incompatible with it.

The back edge of the laptops is empty; it does not carry any functional load other than the lid hinges.

From wireless capabilities there are Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi b/g/n on the Intel Centrino Wireless-N 2230 board for Dell laptop Inspiron 5520-1490, and Bluetooth 4.0 with Wi-Fi b/g/n on the Dell Wireless 1704 board for Dell Inspiron 5720-9733.

Heat and noise

Now let's talk about the heat and noise levels that both laptops produce during operation. Many will agree that the heating of the case is a fairly important part of assessing the laptop as a whole, because the more the external surface and internal components heat up, the more the laptop slows down and refuses to work without a cooling pad, not to mention the tactile sensations of the user.

And also reduced maximum temperature under load – 38°C.

Most likely, this phenomenon is due to the increased area of the 17-inch model, where heat is distributed more evenly.

The HW Monitor utility allowed us to look inside the complex device of laptops to determine the heating level there too. It turned out that they heated moderately, and the difference in indices for both copies was only a few degrees - the temperature limits of the processor of a 15-inch laptop were 46-90°C, the hard drive 42-45°C.

The Dell Inspiron 5720 showed the following indicators: processor 51-87°C, hard drive 43-46°C.

By the way, such a phenomenon as throttling is typical only for the younger specimen; during testing it was 30%. This means that under load the temperature of the laptop components reached a critical level, as a result of which performance was reduced to prevent overheating.

As already mentioned, no throttling was observed when testing the 17-inch laptop.

As for noise, both laptops do not frighten or irritate with excessive activity of this kind even during the most intense work, although the test results were not the lowest. At idle, the Dell Inspiron 5520 and Dell Inspiron 5720 scored 42.8 dB and 43.2 dB, respectively. Under load, these figures increased to 51.6 dB and 53.1 dB for the 15- and 17-inch model.

Battery

Autonomous operation of Dell Inspiron 5520 and 5720 laptops is ensured by a six-cell battery with a capacity of 48 Wh.

Its power resources in the “Energy Saving” plan are enough to use the 17-inch model in “Read’s” mode for 4 hours 16 minutes, in “Classic” mode for 1 hour 28 minutes, and in “Idle” mode for 8 hours 28 minutes. The Dell Inspiron 5520 will work a little longer in such conditions - 4 hours 30 minutes, 1 hour 41 minutes and 8 hours 33 minutes, respectively. For a comparative analysis, we built graphs in which we compared the test results of a 15-inch laptop with its competitors.

In the “High Performance” mode, the trend of a small gap in the laptop testing results continued: the Dell 5520 in “Classic” lasted 1 hour 27 minutes, in “Read’s” 4 hours 12 minutes. The Dell 5720 shows a small time difference of a few minutes - 1 hour 20 minutes and 3 hours 55 minutes according to the order of the modes.

Both laptops are charged using a 65-watt power supply that weighs 220 grams. It fully charges both 15 and 17-inch laptops in 3 hours and 33 minutes.

Testing the power consumption of the Dell Inspiron 5520 and 5720 also did not bring anything extraordinary to the general assessment of laptops. The results showed that both laptops are not particularly economical in energy consumption, but they cannot be called “gluttons” either. In simple, web surfing and stress test modes, the younger model showed 15 W, 28 W and 55 W, the older model - 19 W, 29 W, 54 W.

Conclusion

So the debriefing on the topic “Dell Inspiron 5520 and 5720 - find five differences” has ended. We have found out enough to finally draw a line and decide what significantly distinguishes these two worthy representatives of the world of laptops from each other, and who will get the honorary pedestal of first place out of two possible ones.

In terms of design, the 5520 and 5720 are completely identical, except for the enlarged body of the 17-inch model (which is logical) and the presence of a subwoofer on the bottom, respectively, the weight and dimensions of this laptop are larger. Also, the Dell Inspiron 5720 has an additional digital unit, a display with a resolution of 1600x900 pixels and a slightly more thoughtful arrangement of ports. The Dell Inspiron 5520 at the same time offers a display with a lower resolution of 1366x768 pixels and no speaker system subwoofer. It turns out that a 17-inch laptop will be able to please the user more in terms of solving multimedia problems.

But when assessing performance, both laptops showed almost identical results, which is no wonder - their hardware set is identical. Everything is the same except the hard drive and, accordingly, its performance. Here the younger 15-inch model was ahead with its Seagate Momentus Thin ST500LT012-9WS142 hard drive, which is slightly faster than the Seagate Momentus 5400.6 ST9500325AS of the Dell Inspiron 5720 laptop.

The results of testing the battery capabilities, as well as noise and heating, are also almost at the same level.
So we can’t say absolutely unequivocally that the Dell Inspiron 5720 is significantly better than its 15-inch rival, each is good in its own way. Therefore, it would be fair to divide the championship and the laurels of the winner into two participants at once - Dell Inspiron 5520 and Dell Inspiron 5720, and let the user decide for himself which laptop is best for him when purchasing.
