System administrator management on Windows 8 1. Alternative file selection using checkboxes

Today I want to share one of the secrets operating system Windows, namely, I’ll tell you how to select files in Windows working windows using checkmarks or checkboxes. What is the advantage of this method of selection? The fact is that this option is very convenient when selecting several files that are located in different places.

Eg in the usual way in a Windows window we can select several files in a row on one side or the other, but not scattered files. For example, like this R12;

But how to select files located in different places?

There is one way you can do this. Just press the " Ctrl"and click on the files we need. This method is good when we have few files. But when we have a lot of files in one folder (for example, a family photo album), then this option begins to fail. Which? Let’s say you started selecting the files you need, selected five, ten, fifteen files, and on the sixteenth one you didn’t press the “ Ctrl” and clicked on it, and this is where the entire selection disappears. After which you have to start all over again. What if you have already selected 50 files and suddenly missed the key and lost all your efforts? It is at this point that your eye may begin to twitch.

In this situation, another secret of the Windows operating system comes to our aid. It works on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 (I tried it myself). Its meaning is that squares appear next to the files, in which you can put ticks (they are also called checkboxes). That is, put a tick next to the desired file and went on selecting without fear of resetting the entire selection.

So let's get down to the process of installing checkboxes for selecting files. To begin, click on the “Start” button. If you have Windows 8, then you will probably swear at me now because you cannot find the “Start” button, there is a special article for you on installing such a button, here it is R12; installing the Start button and menu as in Windows 7 on Windows 8 R12; I recommend it to everyone.

So, click the button START" and open ""

In the control panel, select the section “ Design and personalization"(I'm working on Windows 8.1, it may be slightly different on Windows 7)

In the folder options window that opens, find the item “ Use checkboxes to select items" and put a tick next to it

Click “Ok”. That's it. Everything is ready.

Now open the active Windows window in which the files are located and see what happened

This is so simple Windows secret. Perhaps for some this will seem inconvenient, but others, on the contrary, will see it as great way highlight different files and will use it regularly.

This instruction details several ways to enable the hidden Administrator account in Windows 8.1 and Windows 8. The built-in hidden Administrator account is created by default when installing the operating system (and is also available pre-installed on your computer or laptop). See also: How to enable or disable the built-in Administrator account in Windows 10.

By logging in with such an account, you get administrator rights in Windows 8.1 and 8, having full access to the computer, allowing you to make any changes on it (full access to system folders and files, settings, etc.). By default, when using such an account, account control UAC entries disabled.

  • If you enable the Administrator account, it is advisable to also set a password for it.
  • I don't recommend keeping it this account turned on all the time: use it only for specific tasks to restore the computer's functionality or Windows settings.
  • The hidden Administrator account is a local account. In addition, by logging in under this account you will not be able to launch new Windows applications 8 for the home screen.

Enabling the Administrator account using the command line

The first and perhaps the easiest way to enable hidden account and get Administrator rights in Windows 8.1 and 8 - use command line.

To disable this account, use the command in the same way net user administrator /active:no

You can log in to your Administrator account at home screen by changing your account or on the login screen.

Getting full administrator rights in Windows 8 using local security policy

The second way to enable an account is to use the Local Security Policy Editor. You can access it through Control Panel - Administration or by clicking Windows keys+ R and entering secpol.msc in the Run window.

In the editor, open the item “Local Policies” - “Security Settings”, then in the right pane find the item “Accounts: Status account Administrator" and double-click on it. Enable account and close local politics security.

Enable the Administrator account in local users and groups

AND last method log into Windows 8 and 8.1 as an Administrator with unlimited rights - use “ Local users and groups."

Press Windows key + R and enter lusrmgr.msc in the Run window. Open the “Users” folder, double-click on “Administrator” and uncheck “Disable account”, then click “OK”. Close the local user management window. You now have unlimited administrator rights if you log in with an enabled account.

Very useful article. Only the first method helped, and even then I had to tinker with the settings in the properties of the security tab of the WindowsApps folder. Deleted McAfee folder, I hope that forever, in the sense of

Question: 1. Can she register somewhere else?

Moreover, it was not removed using context menu, but only Unlocker,

2. I wonder why?

It was not possible to remove it from the registry.

As for the 2nd method: it says “cannot find secpol.msc”

And 3rd: it says this equipment is not suitable for use in this windows release 8.1.

It costs windows 8.1 for one language.

Could you please answer and explain.

Best regards, Vanya.

11/15/2014 at 10:55

Regarding the unavailability of two methods: indeed, Windows 8.1 for one language does not have the administration tools that are available in other versions of Windows 8.1.

As for McAfee, try using some uninstaller program, for example Revo Uninstaller, logged in as an administrator.

As for the registry, I don’t quite understand why it didn’t work? How about manually?

28.11.2014 at 14:57

Hello! I activated the admin command line using the 1st method, but I still couldn’t remove Kaspersky, in response he wrote to me, request permission from SYSTEM to change this folder. Help!

01/10/2015 at 21:40

Good afternoon. Cool site, as someone pointed out - a reference book for PC users. I still have one question on the topic: why do you not recommend using a permanently hidden administrator account?

01/12/2015 at 08:07

If I understand your question correctly, I do not recommend using it for the reason that when everything on the computer happens on behalf of the Administrator, even without a UAC request, this is almost guaranteed to lead to problems even for a fairly experienced user (viruses, etc. ).

04/08/2015 at 00:44

V official version 8.1 there is no item users - local users and groups. Best regards, Anatoly.

04/08/2015 at 09:08

Hello. The control panel applet lusrmgr.msc does not start, do I understand you correctly? Possibly version restrictions. It definitely works on Windows 8.1 Pro (quite official).

02.05.2015 at 17:31

The administrator rights are gone and when I do all of the above, I get the error Access Denied or No Permission.

05/21/2015 at 15:52

Alexander also had a problem with this the latest Windows. Initially, I was even upset, I couldn’t delete some programs, I also tried these methods, but then I tried it through the control panel and everything worked out. Now I can say with confidence that the “eight” is better than its counterparts

03/11/2016 at 18:28

I can’t log in as an admin because the admin account is hidden

06/18/2015 at 08:09

I logged in from the admin using the 1st method to delete the folder of one Chinese program (it came to me with one archive and registered permanently) it is not deleted through deleting programs. and so I tried to delete the folder through the admin, but it still says you don’t have rights, ask the administrator for them. What to do?

06/18/2015 at 08:19

Change the owner of the folder to yourself (here are the instructions http://remontka.pro/take-ownership-windows/) and then, on the Security tab, set up full access for yourself to it.

06/27/2015 at 15:37

What if I want not to create new entry administrator, but make your own windows profile with admin rights?

06/28/2015 at 06:42

Is he not your administrator profile? Then you can change it through setting up accounts, but to do this you must log in as an admin.

07/22/2015 at 19:56

Good afternoon, I created a Microsoft account, and now I can’t log into Windows since everything was written on boom, what should I do? Thank you!

07/23/2015 at 13:15

Hello. Did you provide a real email? Use password recovery on the Microsoft website.

08/25/2015 at 20:08

To get administrator rights, do you need to enable the program as an administrator? What to do, help.

08/26/2015 at 08:47

Hello. Look at the article about how to reset a password on Windows 10 http://remontka.pro/reset-password-windows-10/ it also describes a way to enable the administrator account without logging in; it is also suitable for Windows 8.

09/23/2015 at 08:32

I disabled the people like this and now I can’t log into Windows. I turned it off by accident, how can I turn it on now?

09/23/2015 at 09:26

Don't you have a regular account? Then look at the article about resetting the password in Windows 10 (located under the red button on the left on the site), there is information about enabling the hidden administrator account when you can’t log into the system, it’s also suitable for 8.

12/05/2015 at 16:36

After identifying that 8.1 basic was licensed, it was registered by the system with the appearance of an icon at the bottom right. Offers from the System to upgrade to 10 began to appear. It loaded, but nothing further. I found out that Update was disabled by the SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR. I am an Administrator myself. It is not possible to move to a lower level. I guess I have to wait my turn for my type of compa-Lenovo 17 inches. Before the Request, updates via Update arrived normally.

06.12.2015 at 12:08

Leonid, to be honest, did not quite understand the situation. In part: Update is disabled by the administrator. Are the other updates coming now?

12/18/2015 at 12:21

I have this problem, I can’t install, download, etc. anything. and so on.

It constantly asks me for a password, but I don’t know what password, I can’t do a system restore either, it also asks for a password, and run as administrator accordingly, too, please help me solve this problem.

12/19/2015 at 11:02

Only tricky way I can tell you. In my article about resetting a password in Windows 10 http://remontka.pro/reset-password-windows-10/ at the beginning it tells how to launch the command line as an administrator before logging into Windows (this is also suitable for 8) . And then enable the administrator account.

12/20/2015 at 08:36

When the computer starts loading, it writes: User Profile Service is preventing you from logging in. The user profile cannot be loaded. What to do?

12/21/2015 at 12:14

12/22/2015 at 19:52

Hello! I have Windows 8.1 for one language, when I enter net user administrator /active: yes system error 5 access denied. And with net user Administrator in the Password required line - yes, in the line User can change the password - yes. The thing is that to update to Win 10 it asks you to contact the Administrator. During other installations and uninstallations, the request for permission comes from the Guest (administrators), everything goes through. But there’s no way. Please help me

12/23/2015 at 11:00

You can trick the system by running the command prompt on the lock screen with full rights. Step by Step Actions is at the beginning of this article: http://remontka.pro/reset-password-windows-10/ (even though it’s about 10, it will be the same for 8).

Also you can just do clean install Windows 10 from a disk or flash drive, official images now accept keys from previous systems(i.e. you can specify the key from 8, 8.1)

12/27/2015 at 18:53

I tried all the methods listed, none of them worked. Changed parameters are simply not saved. Always the same To continue, enter the administrator password and click "Yes"

01/12/2016 at 11:17

My administrator is not activated in .cmd, more information appears, something like that I must enter a login and password, what should I do?

01/12/2016 at 12:15

Perhaps you are not an administrator yourself, and therefore you are asked for a login and password to execute the command? Those. You can activate the built-in administrator account only if you already have administrator rights. Well, or in cunning ways.

02/07/2016 at 14:05

I can’t do it because UAC is enabled, and to disable it you need to log in as an administrator. Help!

02/08/2016 at 08:55

And if you don’t have an administrator account, then simple ways I won't tell you. Complex: http://remontka.pro/reset-password-windows-10/ is also suitable for 8. There, at the stage when the command line is launched on the lock screen, you will have administrator access.

03/03/2016 at 02:03

I accidentally deleted my administrator account, I'm sitting as a guest now, how can I restore it back? I go to safe mode folder visible

03/03/2016 at 08:38

How did you remove it?

03/16/2016 at 11:16

Hello! I have this problem: when installing Windows 8.1, the company created the username in Russian, later, when installing certain software, it became necessary to change the username to English. I changed my name using user accounts. but naturally the user’s folder name did not change. I also created an admin, logged in under him and changed the folder name to English name, then in the registry I changed all the names of the first admin (which is in Russian) to the same as the folder, which I renamed to English. Removed the admin. I logged in again as the first admin and tinkered with the permissions... and everything was fine... but six months later I accidentally discovered that in the file properties, in the details tab, the owner remained in the column Russian name user. I found it, if I’m not mistaken in the user policy (along with my new account), and deleted it and that’s it…. I reboot and see only regular users (without permissions). Naturally, the methods described above will not work for me (I tried it). Restoring from SID while saving files doesn’t work (for some reason), diagnostics also (destroying Windows is tantamount to crashing) as a user, I can’t even log into the admin profile, but I can’t access some drives either. HELP! There is no such information on the Internet (unless in distant corners) what is the probability that someone could repeat this? I haven’t written anywhere else, I’ll wait for an answer.

03/17/2016 at 08:43

Hello. I see this way:

1) from this instruction http://remontka.pro/reset-password-windows-10/ we follow the steps until the command line is launched (it will be launched as administrator) on the lock screen.

2) in this command line we activate hidden profile administrator.

04/26/2016 at 19:04

nothing helped through the command line secpol.msc an error appears, lusrmgr.msc opens and there are no users there error! what to do? how to enable admin??

04/27/2016 at 08:34

In the command line as an administrator we tried to enable hidden accounts: net user administrator /active:yes

25.11.2016 at 12:57

Good afternoon, I'm a teapot. I tried to remove the program based on advice on the Internet. It gives error 902. It can’t be deleted at all. I entered it through the command line, access was denied. Please tell me what to do.

01/30/2017 at 11:51

Please tell me, can I even delete the built-in administrator account?

01/30/2017 at 12:29

02/01/2017 at 06:07

Is it possible to delete a user account with admin rights when the built-in administrator account is disabled? so that accounts remain on the PC, only with rights regular user? Thank you.

02/01/2017 at 09:50

I think not (at least, I can’t think of a way to do this). Unless, in theory, some third party tools can allow this to be done.

02/07/2017 at 04:51

Hello, due to a need at work, I was temporarily given a company laptop for work, it has Windows 8.1 in Ukrainian, apparently official. I work with closed secret information and I would not like someone other than me to be able to view my files, my folders and see where I go on the Internet. How can I do it better, tell me? I see it this way: Create a new user on the laptop and limit access to this particular user as much as possible (there is access to the admin account, it is not password protected). If I'm thinking correctly, help me how to implement everything? Thank you

02/07/2017 at 09:06

Hello. Well, in general, of course, creating a user without administrator rights is useful (from the point of view of the ability to launch viruses and spyware, many of which will not be able to work without administrator rights). Well, the fact that the user will have a password is also useful.

But this will not completely restrict access to data; with skill, all this can easily be broken (i.e., any “handy person” can reset the password after reading a couple of articles, including on my website).

The way to truly limit access to data is to encrypt it (for example, with using Bitlocker, a built-in feature in Professional and Enterprise editions of Windows). But there is another problem: if something happens to the disk, the password will somehow be lost, and it will be impossible to recover the data, even partially.

Thank you very much, Dmitry. You always help everyone a lot. I will contact you again :)

Nowadays, an operating system such as Windows 8.1 has become increasingly popular. And since it is a fairly new product, in connection with its use, consumers have questions about its operation. Often even knowledge does not save previous versions Windows, because changing some details may change something global. For example, users are faced with the question of whether their standard account has insufficient rights, and therefore they need to obtain Administrator rights.

Obtaining Administrator rights in the operating room Windows system 8.1 is one of the most pressing issues in this moment. Here we will consider a way to do this, if the option is to use the current user account.

There are cases when the rights of a user account are so limited that it is simply impossible to perform any action to change these same rights. It is in such situations that the following algorithm of actions should be applied.

Obtaining Administrator rights

To implement your plan, you will need a flash drive with a memory capacity of at least 1 gigabyte and a program image win8adminenable.iso. Finding it will not be difficult - everyone’s favorite Internet will be an excellent assistant in this matter. The smartest thing to do is download this image using a torrent.

When the preparatory stage is completed, you should make sure that the flash drive is formatted in FAT32 format. Now you need to burn the iso to a storage medium. If it doesn't work, it means it's most likely the wrong format. file system. It must be formatted in the specified format.
And then comes the stage at which you should be careful, as you will have to restart the computer.

Since the creators of this version of the operating system decided to add variety and instead of the usual BIOS they now have UEFI, you will have to sweat and find an algorithm for booting from a flash drive on the same Internet.

In the boot menu that appears, select boot from a flash drive (in English Flash drive) and press Enter. After this, a window with a black background and a white background should appear on the screen, where you will be asked to enable an account with Administrator rights.

As a sign of agreement, enter “U”.

In the new window we also enter “U”. After this, you need to press any button so that the computer starts rebooting.

After completing the above steps and rebooting the device, the Administrator account should be added.

If it does not appear on the account selection screen, then you should take a closer look at the already familiar user account - there should be an arrow next to it that you need to click to change the entry.

Now the user has all Administrator rights and can do whatever comes to his mind and work in this account to his heart’s content. However, you should still not abuse your rights and commit rash acts. It’s better to do what you need to do and add the necessary rights to your usual account, since the Administrator may still come in handy.

In this article, you will learn what administrator rights are in Windows 8 and why they are needed. The fact is that many PC users have already appreciated all the advantages of the new operating system, however, they were also able to notice some inconveniences. One of them is the fact that at the time of installation certain applications, or when performing some Windows actions requests administrator rights. And sometimes it completely prohibits the action.

What are administrator rights

This full rights, allowing you to make absolutely any changes on your PC without restrictions. It is worth noting that users get full access to all files. This means that such rights are granted only to advanced users who know the PC well enough. Otherwise, you may harm your computer.

It is for this reason that developers do not provide administrator rights, hiding this function from inexperienced users. You can use it in several ways. The simplest is to download an administrator profile. Let's look at what it is.

Administrator rights in Windows 8: Video

Administrator account

It is worth noting that an administrator account is created automatically when Windows installations 8. However, in order to protect the system from unauthorized changes to parameters that may pose a threat to the system, this profile is disabled and the user is prompted to create a new one.

Thus, the account remains, but is not active, and there is no way to download it. We'll talk about how to get administrator rights in Windows 8 a little later. Now let's look at why it is needed at all. This is a special feature for advanced PC users who are involved in administration and settings.

At the same time, it provides full access to all files and the ability to manage other profiles, creating them and deleting them if necessary. It is with the help of this profile that the system is configured and managed. So we come to the main question of how to get administrator rights in Windows 8.

How to get administrator rights

As mentioned above, the easiest way is to download an administrator profile. But in order to do this you will need to activate your account. You can do this in several ways:

  • With help ;
  • Activation in the management console.

It is worth noting that the command line must be run as an administrator. This is easy to do, you will learn about it below. The first option is a little simpler, but if for some reason you cannot use it, then you can resort to the second. Let's take a closer look at them.

How to get Administrator rights in Windows 8: Video

How to activate a profile using the command line

First, let's start the necessary service with administrator rights. To do this, go to the desktop and move the mouse cursor to the right top corner. After this, a pop-up menu will appear in which you need to open the search. Next, in search bar write “command line”, click on the result right click mouse and open the service with administrator rights.

In the window that appears, all you have to do is enter the right command: netuseradministrator /active:yes. Press “Enter” and close all windows. Now you can restart your computer and launch the desired account. It is worth warning that this profile is disabled in order to secure the system and prevent some user actions that could disrupt the correct operation of the PC. It also reduces the threat of spreading the virus. Therefore, you should think again about whether to activate the administrator account.

How to enable the administrator account in the management console

If for some reason you are unable to use the command line, there is another way to enable the administrator account in Windows 8. To do this, open Explorer and look for “my computer” in the right menu. Right-click on it and select “Manage”. You can also start this service using the Win+R key combination, and in the window that appears you need to write lusrmgr.msc and press “Enter”.

The window that appears is divided into three panels. On the left side you need to find the “local users” item. Open the folder double click mice. After this, you will see two sections “Users” and “Groups”. We are interested in the first. We left-click on the item and see that a list of all accounts available on this computer appears in the middle panel. Here you can rename them, as well as delete unnecessary accounts.

Find the Administrator profile in the list. Right-click on it and select properties. In the window that appears, go to the “General” tab and find the line “Disconnect account”. To activate the profile, simply uncheck the box. Click “apply” and “OK”.

Restart your computer and select the appropriate profile. Now you Windows administrator 8, with all rights and full access to setting up the system. .

Administrator rights in Windows 8

In Windows 8 and 8.1, even if you are running under an administrator account, all programs start in normal mode. To make this clearer, let's give a simple example.

How to become an administrator in Windows 8

Open the Run window and type cmd, launch the command line. Pay attention to the console title, as well as the file system directory you are in. Now close command line, go to the "All applications" section, find there label console and run it as administrator.

Now if you look at the window title and current directory, you will see that they have changed. And still! After all, this time the open command line works with elevated privileges. Is it possible to make sure that all programs, including the console, are launched as administrator by default?

It is possible, but not advisable. Why?

Yes, because in this case, not only will they open on behalf of the administrator useful programs, but also potentially dangerous. Now imagine that a virus will launch with the same administrator rights. Now you can expect anything from him.

If this does not bother you and you are ready to take responsibility for possible consequences, please give programs more freedom. Now how to implement this in practice. In Windows 8 and 8.1, an administrator account already exists, but it is disabled by default. And you can see this for yourself. Right-click on the "Computer" icon, select "Manage" in the menu that opens, and select "Local Users and Groups" in the window that opens. The same can be done using the lusrmgr.msc command executed in the Run window.

Select the directory with users, and then in the right part of the window, double-click on the “Administrator” entry. A checked box indicates that the administrator account is currently inactive. If you remove it, the next time you log in you will be offered a choice - either you log in as a user or as an administrator. You can also activate the administrator account through the command line, which we will now demonstrate. While in the user account, launch the console as administrator. For safety reasons, we set administrator password. To do this, run the following command:
Net user Administrator UserPassword

Please note that the password must be different from the one you are currently working under. Now let's activate the administrator himself:
Net user Administrator /active:yes
If you suddenly have problems with your password (wrong password message), do the opposite - first create an admin, and then change his password.

By executing the command Net User, you can view a list of all system users. As you can see, the Administrator is among them.

Now you can go to the Start screen and simply switch to the administrator account, although it is better to log out of the running account completely first.

In general, now you can perform any actions, including launching and installing programs with elevated privileges. If you want, you can also disable UAC control.
