To date, there are only two videos on YouTube that have managed to gain more than two billion views, while the leader, the video for the song See you again, has not yet been surpassed. The record holder for views is still the video Gangnam Style by South Korean musician Psy. He collected two billion back in June 2014, now this figure is 2.6 billion views.

Two billion views is a lot. As of August 2016, almost half of the world's population—3.5 billion people—uses the Internet. Even if we take into account that many users watched the same video several times, the figure is still impressive. We remembered several more popular videos that manage to collect at least 1.5 million views in two or three years.

The third most popular after Gangnam Style and See You Again is the video for the song Uptown Funk by British DJ Mark Ronson and American musician Bruno Mars. The video, published on November 19, 2014, has received more than 1.8 billion views.

Alena Skvortsova

YouTube service, which belongs to Google, sums up the year. On YouTube page Rewind has published a selection of the most popular videos that were watched by users around the world in the past year.

At the first place Quite expectedly, the video of the South Korean artist PSY Gangnam Style turned out to be. As the portal site has already written, the video will soon surpass the 1 billion views mark.

The video appeared on the Internet on July 15, and already on November 25, the number of “likes” on YouTube exceeded 5.5 million. At the same time, the video clip overtook Justin Bieber’s Baby in terms of the number of views (more than 806 million views). The video became the most viewed in YouTube history.

Second place– from the Canadian group Walk off the Earth. At the beginning of the year, she posted a cover of the Gotye song Somebody That I Used to Know on the Internet. Five people playing a famous song on one acoustic guitar quickly rose to the top YouTube service. In 29 days, the video received almost 50 million views. Today the cover has more than 140 million views.

Third place, and a 30-minute film KONY 2012. The video was created by the non-profit organization Invisible Children. She has been trying for years to stop the longest military conflict in African history: the civil war between the Ugandan government and the Lord's Resistance Army led by Joseph Kony.

Well, the organization achieved its main goal, drawing attention to Kony’s monstrous crimes: the video collected more than 95 million views on YouTube.

Fourth place and 55 million views – and yet our beloved Justin Bieber rocks the video Call Me Maybe by Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen. By the way, the song itself, like the video clip, managed to receive an indecent number of nominations and awards, and on April 14 topped the UK Singles Chart.

And yes, a week ago MTV named Call Me Maybe song of the year.

Fifth place. An epic rap battle between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, or more accurately, two rappers who parody politicians. The video was published on October 15, shortly before the US presidential election, and has already received almost 50 million views. Presumably, most of the spectators are Americans.

Sixth place, and real drama from Belgium. A certain television company intends to open new TV channel. To advertise it, a pole with a button was installed in the center of the city square. You were invited to press this button - well, if, of course, you want to see real drama.

You will see, we promise. Honestly, this clip deserves more than a measly 40.5 million views.

In seventh place– classic “black” rap with elements of stand-up comedy. Two black guys for 6 minutes cannot understand why women ask so many questions.

Yes, if you are hungry, we do not recommend you watch this video: no one has eaten so appetizingly on camera since Jules in “Pulp Fiction.”

Eighth place– from the American hip-hop violinist (as she calls herself) Lindsey Stirling. Beautiful video, although somewhat monotonous: it gets boring by the second minute. Probably, in addition to the army of fans, the word “dubstep” in the title helped ensure almost 40 million views.

Onninthplace– Facebook video Parenting: For The Troubled Teen. An educational video for teenagers: we see a strict father who finds out that his teenage daughter is writing not the nicest comments about him on Facebook. In particular, the girl is dissatisfied with her position in the family, where she has to clean up after herself and make coffee for her parents. She also believes that her parents should pay her for housework.

Tommy Jordan - that's his father's name - solves the problem simply and effectively. He puts the entire clip of the pistol into his daughter’s laptop and says that she will get a new one when she earns money for it.

Finally, tenth place– and the now legendary jump of Felix Baumgarner. As you know, on October 14, 2012, the extreme sportsman made a parachute jump from a height of 39,000 meters, after which he landed safely in the vicinity of the city of Roswell, New Mexico, US.

At the time of the event, four Baumgartner records were registered: the highest parachute jump height, the longest distance free fall, the highest manned flight on a stratospheric balloon and the most high speed free fall, which exceeded the speed of sound and amounted to 1342.8 kilometers per hour. But the record for the duration of a free fall stood: 4 minutes 36 seconds, while Baumgartner fell 16 seconds less.

Felix Baumgartner's jump was broadcast on YouTube around the world, with more than 8 million people watching the live broadcast. Now the video has 31 million views.

There are hundreds of miles of videos on YouTube, and several thousand more are added every day. But only a few become truly popular, watched by tens of millions of people.
