Phones with keyboards are new. Modern smartphones with qwerty keyboard

Mobile phones with touch controls are becoming a worthy replacement for push-button models. This has been happening since 2013. Currently, it is almost impossible to find a smartphone with a push-button keyboard on the shelves of modern stores. Despite this, some smartphones still have a slide-out keyboard, and this fact indicates that not every company is interested only in touch displays.

LG Enact

LG primarily focuses on touchscreen smartphones. Despite this, the push-button model can still be successfully found. Moreover, the device successfully operates on the Android operating system. Maybe this particular device will please people who do not strive to actively and successfully understand modern trends.

LG Enact pleases with ease of control, but at the same time the functionality matches its sophisticated brothers. Additional advantages include a very powerful and decent battery.

Of course, there will be disadvantages. For example, a smartphone has a small display (the diagonal is only 4 inches), but even such dimensions do not lead to refusal of the purchase.

Technical data:

  • 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor;
  • built-in memory – 8 gigabytes;
  • battery capacity – 2460 mAh;
  • operating system – Android version 4.1;
  • Camera – 5 megapixels with LED backlight.

In fact, the technical specifications are at an average level and suggest a practical approach to a mobile phone. The cost is $350.

Nokia C6

Nokia C6 has gained real interest. The smartphone is ideal for fans of an active lifestyle who still gravitate towards a qwerty keyboard. The mobile phone runs the fifth version of the Symbian S60 operating system, which, fortunately, is characterized by maximum convenience.

The smartphone has 4 rows of keys that represent almost all letters of the Cyrillic alphabet. The exceptions were two letters - X, B. On the right side of the keyboard there is a navigation system that successfully replaces the arrows. Among the advantages of buttons are their large size and convex shape. The white backlight allows you to type text successfully and without any problems even in the dark.

  • bluetooth;
  • wi-fi;
  • branded navigator;
  • possibility of using memory cards;
  • radio;
  • 5 megapixel camera.

The screen has a resolution of 640 by 360 pixels, and this is already enough to watch videos.

An interesting feature is the minimum weight (50 grams). The smartphone is available in black and white.

BlackBerry Venice

BlackBerry offers a unique smartphone with a slide-out keyboard called Venice. This model features a 5.1-inch curved screen. Technical data and functionality are encouraging:

  • screen – 5.1 inches. The most convenient and enjoyable work experience is expected thanks to the smartphone display;
  • An 8-core processor that successfully performs almost any task;
  • 16-megapixel camera that allows you to create high-quality images;
  • Battery capacity – 3650 mAh for long-term operation on a single charge.

However, the smartphone initially attracts with its unique design: the front glass is actually curved at the edges. We can safely assume that this form will provide maximum ergonomics.

BlackBerry Passport

This smartphone is popular among businessmen and executives. It should be noted that it turned out to be one of the fastest, best and most functional among models with a sliding keyboard.

The smartphone initially looks expensive and prestigious, which evokes only the best impressions. Moreover, many people will appreciate the ability to control in two ways: touch screen and slide-out keyboard. However, the smartphone is offered without the Cyrillic alphabet, which turns out to be an atypical drawback. To communicate successfully, you have to regularly use a transliterated to Russian translator or double buttons, which actually complicates the process of typing any text. If you use the keyboard for navigation, you can control your smartphone with ease, because the buttons are even adapted for copying, pasting, and highlighting different texts.

Despite the high cost (about 43,000 rubles), BlackBerry Passport is ready to please with its versatility. All functions are brought to near perfection, which, without a doubt, leaves the best impression.

Despite the fact that smartphones with push-button keyboards are becoming a thing of the past, similar models can still be found on the market. The most important thing is to carefully study all the offers and understand which option is best to choose the right one, since only in this case can you be completely satisfied with the purchase.

Video: the best smartphone with a sliding keyboard 2017

The QWERTY keyboard is perceived as a relic of the past, something that has ceased to exist, or is simply not relevant. But as it turns out, many manufacturers have tried themselves in this path, and almost everyone has an experimental model.
When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone, he made a very valid point: the physical keyboard on the front of the phone takes up a lot of space that could be used for the display. It was Apple that defined the image of the smartphone in its modern form.
But this argument can be distorted. Is there a lot of space left when we type, because the keyboard takes up half the screen?
The pioneer in the field of full hardware keyboards on mobile phones was ( and is still represented most widely in this segment ) BlackBerry company. It placed a lot on these models, and after the triumph of touch screens and the corresponding failure of keyboards, it lost most of the market, which led to financial difficulties.
Until recently, it was impossible buy a smartphone with top specifications and with a QWERTY keyboard. Now BlackBerry has released its new model PRIV, which, one might say, is not inferior to the market leaders. For example, or Galaxy S6 Edge. But more on that later.
Let's see what models exist at the moment that you can pay attention to.

BlackBerry Q10

Back in 2013, BlackBerry introduced its OS 10, which was focused on touch control, and released two models Z10 and Q10. The Z10 has full touch controls, but in the Q10 they never abandoned the familiar keys.

And the smartphone turned out to be good:

  • Elegant design, excellent build
  • Super Amoled 3.1 inches, with a resolution of 720x720
  • 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal, dual-core processor
  • LTE, you will not be deprived of communications
  • 8 megapixel camera

Flaws:

  • There are a small number of applications for BlackBerry OS, of course you will find the main ones (Twitter, VK, Instagram, players, etc.), but there is a significant lack of variety
  • For its price you can buy it without a keyboard with better parameters

The phone was notable at the time for its design. Suitable for sophisticated buyers.

BlackBerry Passport

The model is very wide, 90 mm, with the average width of a smartphone being 60 mm, i.e. by a third.
Advantages:

  • Protective glass Gorilla Glass 3
  • Very good hardware (3 GB RAM, 4 cores)
  • 32 GB of internal memory up to 128 GB of memory cards
  • Long battery life
  • High performance and system optimization
  • Premium display with superior visualization capabilities

Flaws

  • The special design has a drawback, it is still very wide
  • Operating system not Android

The smartphone turned out to be specific, but certainly stylish, with powerful equipment and a high price comparable to the flagships of Samsung, HTC, and Apple. But if you want something special, buy it.

BlackBerry PRIV

BlackBerry PRIV is probably the most interesting model released in 2105. It's the well-forgotten slider again! And what’s important is that it runs on Android 5.1.
Peculiarities:

  • Powerful equipment – 13 MP| 6 core processor| 3 GB RAM| 32 GB|A moled 5.1’’
  • Beautiful design, curved display like the Galaxy S6 Egde
  • The keyboard is not bulky, you can use both the keyboard and touch controls
  • Good camera with optical stabilization

Flaws

  • High price
  • Errors in the software environment and bugs, but this is understandable; BlackBerry has little experience using Android on its devices
  • I would like more battery capacity

Several years ago, there were already phones with sliding qwerty keyboards from companies such as Motorola, HTC, Nokia. However, touch screens became much more popular for input and these models were not in demand. Despite the fact that they are a thing of the past, many users are nostalgic for the physical keyboards that are so lacking in smartphones.

Many companies such as Samsung, Huawei, LG, Xiaomi are seriously developing new projects. The British company F(x)tec, which previously existed under the name Livermorium, was no exception. At the beginning of 2019, she announced her intention to return user-favorite functions from old phones. F(x)tec Pro 1 is the first device equipped with a qwerty keyboard, which will be released in July.

Slider smartphones may seem heavy and large. However, this is offset by the presence of a physical keyboard. On one side of the phone there is a volume rocker, an on/off button, and a camera shutter button. On the other hand, there is a slide-out keyboard with soft buttons. At the bottom there are stereo speakers and a USB port. The developers chose to place the headphone jack at the top.

Keyboard comfort

Even though the keyboard looks small, it does a lot of things. Among them:

  • convenient typing;
  • device navigation using arrows;
  • there is no need to search for the required symbols;
  • realistic resemblance to a computer keyboard.

In addition, the folding system allows you to take up less space while still using a full qwerty keyboard.

Microchip

F(x)tec used the Snapdragon 835 microchip in their development. The reason for embedding is the incredible battery saving effect. It is not just powerful and fast, but also uses energy correctly. At the same time, the manufacturer made a compromise by using an average quality chip to reduce the price of the device. Upon pre-order, this device will cost 43 thousand rubles. In the future, its price will decrease.

Who needs a slider smartphone with a keyboard?

Smartphones with slide-out keyboards have existed before. They were business-class phones, their price was high, but their performance was no different, and sometimes lagged behind others. 2019 was a year of rebirth for them. The new sliders have high performance, high-quality assembly, are convenient and affordable.

These phones are suitable for people:

  • who often correspond on social networks and by mail;
  • those who value originality and individuality;
  • those who prefer convenience and comfort when typing.

Interesting fact! The company announcing the release of this smartphone was inspired by previously created Nokia phones: E70 and N900.

Advantages and disadvantages

Modern slider smartphones with a qwerty keyboard are a special category of devices. They have well-adapted operating systems with powerful chips that allow for full use. Their heavy weight is compensated by the presence of a real keyboard with soft buttons.

Modern push-button smartphones: not just a sensor

The bad desire of manufacturers to abandon physical buttons on smartphones has led to this not entirely healthy competition: who will have “even” fewer buttons, and who will place them in the most inconvenient place. The ends on all sides, the back cover (for the Power button) - only Apple and Samsung are faithful to the presence of at least one hardware control button (not counting the power key and volume rocker, which almost no one has abandoned so far).

Exactly, almost: a smartphone was recently announced with the slightly indecent-sounding name Manta 7X, which has no buttons at all. The notorious power buttons and volume rockers have been replaced with mini-touch screens.

On the other hand, in Chinese stores you can find smartphones with QWERTY keyboards, but they will be, to put it mildly, “not very good”: the nameless Chinese phone cannot boast of build quality, coupled with the software component, or support - they usually have it at zero.

Samsung super clamshells

Samsung SM-W2015, G9098, G9198... Samsung is better known in our country for various flagships of the Galaxy S series, as well as the ancestor of the Galaxy Note “shovels”. But the company also actively produces clamshell smartphones, and for some reason only for the Asian markets, mainly Chinese and Japanese.

And there are actually a lot of them. It is not clear why the Chinese brothers received such interesting preferences, since the recently announced G9198 model, for example, is also the flagship of the Korean company. This clamshell has two AMOLED screens with a resolution of 1280x768 pixels with protective glass Gorilla Glass 4, 2 GB of RAM and 16 permanent memory, and the processor is an impressive Qualcomm Snapdragon 808. Of course, there are the good old digital buttons for dialing numerical data and SMS via T9 and similar, all possible wireless interfaces, LTE - in general, this is the same flagship S6, only in a different form factor.

And the Samsung G9098 model is not much worse, to say the least. It has a Snapdragon 800, two 3.67-inch Super AMOLED touchscreens with a resolution of 800x480 pixels, 2 GB of RAM, but the digital buttons are different, as is the overall design. But this model is sold only in Asia, unfortunately.

Blackberry Passport

The smartphone from the half-dead Canadian manufacturer RIM (BlackBerry), which often appears in our latest articles, has found its place here. Let us remember that we are talking about a smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard on the Blackberry 13 OS with various tasty goodies (for example, launching Android applications), including an innovative touch panel (hidden under the keyboard), which in its dimensions completely corresponds to a regular passport.

The features of the device follow from this: a square display, the ability to adapt all possible applications (and the new version of the OS can port what only Android could do), and thus, hundreds of thousands of applications theoretically become available in Passport. Therefore, the title “not like everyone else” suits him completely.

The resolution of the display, despite this, is very good: 1440x1440 pixels with a density of 453 ppi, and users praise the thoughtfulness of the system and its convenience, while talking about the lack of these qualities in Android-based smartphones.

True, the only negative in this barrel of honey is the price of 32 thousand rubles on the Russian market.

BQ Berkeley

A little-known Hong Kong brand BQ (Bright&Quick) introduced a budget QWERTY smartphone to the Russian market a few months ago at a price of 4 thousand rubles. The name of a world-famous American university is one of the company’s features. True, it was written with several errors, but who cares.

In some ways it is similar to the classic BlackBerry, but at a disproportionately low price and Android 4.2.2 OS as a base. The configuration here is absolutely budget-friendly: dual-core MediaTek with half a gigabyte of RAM, no 4G, rear (!) two-megapixel camera…. Should I continue?

It is clear that this QWERTY background is aimed at those who need the bare minimum from a smartphone: SMS, calls, simple applications, chats, social networks. But it has one significant drawback: unlike “gray” phones from the West and East, where there is only an English-language keyboard, here everything is the other way around, and only Russian letters are printed on the keys. Therefore, entering passwords/logins and other program elements will be impossible (unless you know exactly where which key is): you will have to use a small 3.5-inch display with a resolution of 480x320 pixels and only a two-point multi-touch.

On the other hand, according to reviews, the keyboard is very easy to use: nothing supernatural, just the same as it was in QWERTY smartphones many years ago.

LG Wine Smart 2

But Samsung is not the only one that is strong with its flip phones: their arch-competitor in the Korean and global markets, LG, also offers a similar product.

Similar, but not quite: LG is betting not only on South Korea, but also on Europe, so the phone will officially be delivered to many EU countries and even Kazakhstan.

This is already the second folding smartphone in the Wine Smart series from LG, and it looks very similar to the first (which was intended only for Korea): even the buttons, unlike competitors from Samsung, are made convex, like in old phones.

What can he boast of? Not very many: the smartphone from Wine Smart 2 turned out to be much less powerful than that of Samsung, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 (4 cores at 1.1 GHz) works as a “fiery engine”, the screen offers a very modest 3.2 inches (with a resolution of 480x320 points), the rear camera is only 3 MP (and VGA front). RAM 1 GB, 4 GB file memory, battery 1700 mAh. Like the first Wine Smart, this model uses Android 5.1.1 Lollipop as its OS.

Sonim XP6

The Sonim brand is well known even to those who have not been following market innovations for a long time: for many years this company has been producing gadgets protected to the maximum IP standard classes for the most severe operating conditions.

New for 2015 is the XP6 model, a smartphone that looks more like a regular phone with a very large screen, although by smartphone standards the screen is tiny: 2.6” with a resolution of 320x432 pixels.

Of course, it is protected to the maximum - the IP69 standard covers most of the most severe operating conditions, from diving to conquering Everest. However, it cannot be said that it has any particularly powerful configuration: Qualcomm MSM8926 and only 1 GB of RAM (+8 permanent).

But it has a lot of features that are not easy to find in “regular” smartphones: an impressive 4800 mAh battery, the ability to work in walkie-talkie mode, over 1000 hours of standby time, three programmable keys in addition to the usual ones, a connector for magnetic charging, a speaker as much as 103 dB...

But the price, of course, is rather high: on the official website the model is sold for 56 thousand rubles, which, however, is fully justified by the supposed indestructibility and durability of the device.

Simtelep N9

This is one of those Chinese smartphones that are a candy bar smartphone with physical buttons “like on a phone” at a very affordable price of 80 US dollars: for this price the device can be bought in Chinese stores, and Russian ones sell it today for about 8 thousand. rubles Of course, these are not “official representative offices”.

As a smartphone, Simtelep N9 is quite simple: it has a dual-core MTK6572 platform, 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of file memory (plus a MicroSD slot), a display with a resolution of 480x320 pixels and a fairly impressive 4000 mAh battery, which allows it to work, according to the manufacturer, more than 6 days standby time.

Otherwise, this is a fairly simple and cheap smartphone, the main problem of which is precisely the keyboard: in order to make the buttons work under Android, you will have to use third-party software, which is not even guaranteed to work. In addition, there are no Russian letters on the keyboard, which can also be a problem for many.

You can find plenty of similar smartphones in Chinese stores, but they will all have approximately the same disadvantages listed in the previous paragraph. Therefore, if you are not ready for shamanic dances with a tambourine, pay attention to other smartphones with buttons. Most likely, among them you will find what you are looking for.
