For me, before choosing a computer, the Apple MacBook Air 2016 is not significantly different from the MacBook Pro 2016 from a technical point of view, for example, as I saw it:
1. Screen resolution MacBook Air 1440x900 vs MacBook Pro 2560x1600. I have never used a computer with a Retina screen, so unfortunately I have nothing to compare it with. Someone may say that it is possible to compare laptops in a store, but believe me, I did it, in a store you will not see much of a difference.
2. CPU A MacBook Air with 1600 MHz is hardly possible to fully compare with a MacBook Pro with 2000 MHz, and it’s worth considering that according to Benchmarks statistics, both laptops are almost on the same level.
3. Keyboard: classic or “butterfly”. I spent about two hours in the store and to be honest, the MacBook Pro keyboard annoyed me, it was noisy and small. The MacBook Air's keyboard was no different from my 2012 Pro model, and the soft, quiet click was definitely more enjoyable.
4. Large trackpad(or Touch pad) I considered it a clear disadvantage and thought that when typing text I would touch it with my palms, thereby increasing errors when working “blindly” with the keyboard.
I won't lie USB ports and USB-C is the least significant thing in choosing a future computer. Adapters are not expensive, and their weight does not exceed 50 grams. Moreover, if you are a professional photographer or video shooter, then for this technique you have a briefcase or case where you can always put an adapter.
The above four reasons haunted me and for almost two weeks I was wondering whether it was worth overpaying almost 30,000 rubles for the 2016 MacBook Pro. After weighing all the pros and cons, I decided to MacBook purchases Pro, although I assumed that if the chosen model did not suit me, then I would easily sell it and buy a MacBook Air.

Impressions of the MacBook Pro 2016
After working on the Apple MacBook Pro 2016 for several hours and looking at the monitor of my five-year-old Pro 2012, I was horrified. On the old screen I saw a not clear picture, dots (pixels) and blurry text. I can say with confidence that only for Retina screen It's already worth paying extra.

In my opinion Apple pressing the keys should have been made softer and more silent.

Of course, I periodically pressed the trackpad with my palm and this affected the correctness of the input, so for comfortable work I recommend disabling the “Touch to simulate a mouse click” feature. 
Of course, each user has his own vision of the functionality and practicality of a laptop; someone chooses Windows platform, someone Mac OS. As they say, to each his own.

Now we will evaluate the top version: with an Intel Core i7-6820HQ processor (4 cores, 8 threads, 2.7 GHz, Turbo Boost up to 3.6 GHz) and AMD video card Radeon Pro 455.

Let us first recall the configurations of the opponents.

However Core processor The i7-6820HQ in the newer model is roughly the same as the older Core i7-4870HQ, although they are two generations apart. Performance testing in Final Cut Pro X and Compressor

What conclusions can be drawn? In three out of four tests, the new 13-inch MacBook is significantly, sometimes more than twice as good as its rivals. It's logical. What is surprising is that in one test it compares equally with the previous generation 15-inch MacBook Pro. Moreover, since the new 15-inch MacBook is much faster than its rivals in this test, we can assume that Final Cut Pro X actively uses the video card and reveals the difference between the video accelerators used. In the final rendering via Compressor, the results of the two 15-inch models are practically the same. But in the second test, the new product even unexpectedly lags behind. Apparently, this is due to the limitation of the processor thermal package set by the laptop manufacturer. The formal TDPs of the Core i7-6820HQ and Core i7-4870HQ are approximately equal (45 and 47 W), however, the 2016 model has a more compact and less ventilated case, so the TDP of the processor in it can be “cut” to 35 W. One way or another, the processor's power is limited, although it does not necessarily overheat.
BlackMagic DaVinci Resolve
Another professional video editing application is BlackMagic DaVinci Resolve. We used version 12.5. And this is what happened:

First of all, the dispersion in results between 13-inch and 15-inch laptops of the same generation is striking. The difference is almost four times! And the second point: the top-end MacBook also overtook its immediate predecessor without any problems and by a significant margin (more than one and a half times).

Let's move on to operations typical of programming: compiling and searching through source code.
As we can see, there is no difference at all between the 15-inch MacBook Pro of the two generations. Therefore, for programming tasks, the number of CPU cores and the amount of RAM are much more important than the generation of the processor.
Browser benchmarks: JetStream
Now let's move on to benchmarks. Let's start with the browser JavaScript benchmark. Safari was used as the browser.
Here the result is quite expected. The separation of the flagship new product from other models is obvious, but not significantly.
Geekbench
Geekbench also doesn't see much difference between the applied Intel processors Core i7 different generations: Both single-threaded and multi-threaded performance of the two MacBook Pro 15″ are almost equal. The Core i5 in the new MacBook Pro 13″ is slower in both modes, and in multi-threaded it is, of course, significantly slower.
The Compute subtest uses GPU computing in OpenCL. Here, both AMD Radeon accelerators (second result in the table) are better than the built-in Intel Iris Graphics 550 in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, but not as much better as one might expect. The Intel Iris Pro Graphics 5200 in the MacBook Pro 15″ (Mid 2015) is also not that much inferior to the newer Iris Graphics 550. The integrated graphics (Intel HD Graphics 530) of the new 15-inch MacBook Pro looks noticeably worse than anyone in this comparison, but it is equipped with the fastest discrete Radeon Pro 455.

As we can see, the results were very different and provide extensive food for thought. At least some of the results look very strange and can hardly be explained. In general, discrete GPUs are noticeably faster than integrated ones, but still not always, and when comparing the integrated GPUs of three laptops, the devil himself will break his leg. CPU comparison brings the expected results, except that in one test the processor of the newer 15-inch model was again noticeably inferior to the processor of the previous one.
In general, you should not blindly trust the results of this benchmark.
BlackMagic Disk Speed
If the benchmarks listed above help us evaluate the performance of the CPU and GPU, then BlackMagic Disk Speed is focused on testing the drive - the speed of reading and writing files.
And here we also got a very interesting result. Judging by BlackMagic Disk Speed, new MacBooks The Pro is significantly better at both read and write speeds than the 2015 model. Both 2016 laptops reached a maximum of 2000 MB/s in read speed, and 1900 MB/s (15-inch model) and 1848 MB/s (13-inch model) in write speed.
