Consumers compared Xiaomi smartphones with Apple devices.

The wide range of brand phones makes it difficult to decide on the right model.

The best Xiaomi smartphones of 2018 – expert rating

Today, Xiaomi products are available in almost every electronics supermarket and on most web sites. New smartphones are sold out from the company's online store in a few minutes. But the number of models and their modifications is growing steadily from year to year, and it can be difficult for an inexperienced user to navigate such diversity. If you have already decided that you need a Xiaomi mobile, but don’t know which one to choose, our review is for you.

The flagship smartphone Mi 5s, announced by Xiaomi at the turn of 2016 and 2017, still remains popular. With relatively modest dimensions and reasonable price it has a powerful processor, however, consisting of only four cores. The volumes of RAM and permanent memory vary depending on the modification of the gadget, but in any case they guarantee sufficient speed for all applications and capacious storage for user data.
Xiaomi smartphone – which is better? If multimedia functions are primary, choose Mi 5s. Its display complies with the FullHD standard with a diagonal of just over five inches and features a very high-quality IPS matrix with wide viewing angles, excellent contrast and detail. The battery is not too impressive, but still guarantees a day battery life phone under medium load. But the camera module was clearly sacrificed, apparently in the name of reducing the cost of the device.

Refined and elegant, Redmi 4X will appeal primarily to girls. Its arsenal includes high-quality, albeit single-matrix, cameras, an HD display with excellent color rendition, and most importantly, a capacious and reliable battery. By combining this in one smartphone, the designers created an inexpensive, but good gadget, which has high performance and can adequately compete with products from world brands.
The hardware is maintained at a high level. The “heart” of the smart phone is a powerful eight-core processor, the memory capacity is classic for an average price category– 3 and 32 GB. Well, the metal case and fingerprint scanner are responsible for the security of the phone and the information stored on it. Verdict – an excellent budget gadget with a good camera and battery.

Xiaomi Mi Note 3

If you need to combine the functionality of a smartphone and a tablet in one gadget, phablets with a screen diagonal of 5.5 inches or more come to the rescue. It would be correct to include Mi Note 3, the best Xiaomi smartphone of 2018 according to some independent publications, in this class of devices. You can’t call it cheap, but one look at the phablet is enough to understand that it’s worth every ruble. Xiaomi Mi Note 3 looks original and slightly futuristic thanks to the glossy glass panel. Despite its size, it fits comfortably in the hand.
The functionality of the gadget is impressive - it has a powerful eight-core processor and six gigabytes random access memory, and capacious internal data storage. Perhaps this is a smartphone with the best camera in our review - the main one has two 12-megapixel matrices, capable of adapting to any shooting conditions, and the 16-megapixel front camera guarantees excellent selfie shots. The role of the pre-installed OS is played by Android 7.1 with proprietary MIUI shell 9.0.

  5. fast charging.

Minuses:

  1. There is no 3.5 mm headphone jack.

In terms of price-quality ratio, the relatively inexpensive Redmi Note 5A Prime 4 would be an excellent solution. In terms of performance, it is inferior to older models, but is equipped with a colorful 5.5-inch HD screen, has a very good front camera and a good rear one (13 megapixels versus 16 for “ front cameras"). A stylish metal case in silver or gold gives the smartphone a special charm - the gadget looks much more expensive than its actual cost.
The base hardware was an eight-core chip, but it clock frequency leaves much to be desired. But there are no complaints about the memory - 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage will satisfy even the most demanding users. Customer reviews characterize the Redmi Note 5A Prime 4 as a high-quality and very reliable smart phone, but point to the relatively low capacity of its battery.

Characteristics:

  • Android;
  • screen 5.5″, resolution 1280×720;
  • camera 13 MP, autofocus, F/2.2;
  • RAM 4GB;

Minuses:

  1. slightly low performance.

The Mi Max 2 remains relatively cheap for a 6.5-inch phablet while delivering strong performance and multitasking. It has a good eight-core processor, decent amounts of storage and a mediocre camera module, which, however, is enough for most everyday tasks. But first of all, Xiaomi Mi Max 2 is a gadget with a powerful 5300 mAh battery, capable of working for up to two days under average loads.
The smart display provides optimal pixel density for fast response and relatively low power consumption. It is equipped with an IPS matrix and complies with the FullHD standard. The main drawback that users notice about the Mi Max 2 is its weight – it exceeds 200 g, which, together with its solid dimensions, makes the phone not very “mobile”.

Characteristics:

  • Android 7.0;
  • screen 6.44″, resolution 1920×1080;
  • 3G, 4G LTE, LTE-A, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, GLONASS;
  • RAM 4GB;

  • support for two SIM cards;
  • WxHxD 88.70×174.10×7.60 mm;
  • weight 211 g.

Pros:

  1. amazing autonomy;
  2. Design. Despite its large size, it looks beautiful;
  3. high level performance;
  4. fast charging;
  5. big battery.

Minuses:

  1. no NFC.

The ranking of Xiaomi smartphones 2018 would be incomplete without Mi A1. It is a joint development of Xiaomi and Google and is a model modern smartphone middle price segment. The gadget is equipped with a powerful Snapdragon 625 processor and has 4 GB of RAM, but the permanent storage is less than that of its competitors - only 32 GB. The battery also raises some complaints - its capacity may be slightly lower than stated by the manufacturer. In this case, it is recommended to replace the phone under warranty.
Mi A1 was created primarily as a multimedia station. This is evidenced by the bright screen with high resolution, and a built-in audio amplifier that supports 3D audio technologies. If you need a smart phone with a good camera, Mi A1 will not let you down - its dual 12-megapixel module has a 2x optical zoom, and support for telescopic shooting mode allows you to create portrait shots with artistic background blur.

  3. high-quality and bright screen;

Received “Bronze” in our top 10 new flagship company, aimed primarily at modern, business and wealthy people. He received original design, in which three-dimensional glass panels are combined with steel inserts. Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 6

The second generation of the Mix line is interesting with its original design case from Philippe Starck. He decided to combine glass and ceramics, abandoning the use of metal and plastic. The result was stylish, unusual and very comfortable. The smartphone received a frameless six-inch 2K display, which replaced the front camera on the bottom panel. By the way, about cameras. They have large matrices from Sony and an optical image stabilization mechanism, thanks to which they shoot perfectly in any operating conditions.
The processor of the smartphone is the same as in Mi6, but the memory capacity has increased to 6/64 GB. Whatever smartphone you choose, you can be sure that it will easily cope with any task. This smartphone is, in fact, the twin brother of the Mi Mix 2 6. It has the same screen, the same processor, the same communication modules and cameras. However, the memory capacity has increased significantly - the RAM has been expanded to 8 GB, the permanent one - to 128 GB.
The changes also affected the appearance of the gadget. Xiaomi is often called one of the most successful startups in the world. In just a few years, unknown to anyone Chinese brand has grown into a multi-billion dollar corporation with a significant share of the smartphone market.

The key advantage of goods from the Middle Kingdom is their very low cost with relatively good technical characteristics. Today we will try to determine the best Xiaomi flagship 2018-2019, and we will also tell you all the details about the company’s upcoming main new product – Xiaomi Mi7.

Xiaomi Mi6

  • Screen: IPS, 5.15” FullHD;
  • Memory: RAM – 6 GB, internal storage– 32/64 GB;
  • Camera: main – dual module 12+12 MP, front – 8 MP;
  • Battery: 3350 mAh.

Mi6 can well be called one of the most budget flagships, while the smartphone can seriously compete with top models from Samsung or LG. The key advantage of this device is its low price combined with very good technical characteristics. At the same time, Mi6 itself is quite beautiful and convenient, although it does not have a frameless display.

The flagship body consists of an all-metal frame and two glass panels that cover the opposite panels of the gadget. The glass smoothly flows into the metal frame, so holding Mi6 in your hands is a pleasure. The smartphone has a small (by today's standards) display, but this is only a plus for it. Such a device will fit into any pocket without any problems, it is very convenient to operate it with one hand (which obviously cannot be said about most phablets). Externally, the Mi6 most closely resembles the Huawei P10; Xiaomi has almost the same dual camera on the back and a very similar front panel.

The design of the Mi6 was not without its controversial issues. Firstly, the manufacturer decided to abandon the 3.5 mm headphone input. Instead, you will have to use the Type-C adapter included in the kit. Secondly, the Mi6 claims to be waterproof only against splashes, which means that after prolonged immersion under water the phone may become unusable. It’s not entirely clear why Xiaomi got rid of the minijack for the sake of incomplete moisture protection.

The flagship received a pretty good IPS matrices with FullHD resolution. The Mi6 screen, of course, does not compete with the same Samsung Galaxy S8, but for its price category it is very good. There is a large reserve of brightness, good color rendition and wide viewing angles. Pixel density is 428 units per inch.

The device is built on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, Mi6 is also equipped with 6 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB ( different versions) permanent memory. In AnTuTu, the flagship scores about 175 thousand points, which is one of the best results even in the highest price category. Of course, you won’t see any problems with the operation of the interface or games. Thanks to the processor, made using 10nm technology, the smartphone uses battery power carefully; it is enough for 1.5 days of normal use.

The main dual camera of the Mi6 performs well in testing with different conditions lighting. It uses two 12 MP photo sensors – Sony IMX 386 and Samsung S5K3M3, and there is a portrait shooting mode. Overall, the Mi6 can be called one of the best in terms of photo quality in its price category.

Conclusion: Mi 6 is the best flagshipXiaomi 2018-2019. The device will especially appeal to gamers who want to buy good gaming device for a minimal price. Cons: lack of a headphone input, poor moisture protection and heating under high load.

Xiaomi Mi Note 3

  • Screen: IPS, 5.46” FullHD;
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 (2.2 GHz);
  • Memory: RAM – 6 GB, internal storage – 64/128 GB;
  • Camera: main – dual module 12+12 MP, front – 16 MP;
  • Battery: 3500 mAh.

If you liked the design of the Mi6, but need a larger display, we recommend buying Mi Note 3. This is, in fact, the same famous flagship only in phablet format. Similarities appearance two models can hardly be called a disadvantage, judging by successful launch Mi6 all over the world, the design of the device clearly appealed to buyers.

The only drawback of the Mi Note 3 is the overly slippery glass panels. If in the case of Mi6 this was not noticeable (due to its smaller dimensions), then there is a serious danger of the phablet slipping out of your hands. Therefore, we recommend that you immediately add a silicone bumper to your list of accessories to purchase. By the way, the phablet also does not have a headphone input.

The production of new IPS matrices for Mi Note 3 was carried out by JDI. Due to the rather saturated colors, it may seem that a classic SuperAMOLED matrix is used inside the smartphone. If desired, color rendering parameters can always be adjusted in the settings.

In synthetic performance tests, the 6xx series processor from Snapdragon scores about 110 thousand points (AnTuTu). The result is good, especially for this price category. At the same time, the phone does not heat up under high loads, as was the case with the Xiaomi Mi6. Due to the larger battery, Mi Note 3 can easily last up to two days in mixed use. There is support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

In terms of image quality, the phablet is also practically no different from the flagship Mi6; it uses the same photo sensors in the dual main camera. But the front camera has higher resolution- as much as 16 megapixels. The only drawback of the Mi Note 3 when it comes to photography is that it doesn’t work quite right portrait mode. Most likely this is due to the “crudeness” of the software algorithms for processing the frame.

Conclusion: Xiaomi Mi Note 3 should have been called Mi 6 Plus; it is really difficult to find any differences between the flagship and the phablet. The model can be considered as a potential top purchase of 2017, if, of course, you are not afraid of large displays.

Xiaomi Mi Note 3

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2

  • Screen: IPS, 5.99” FullHD+;
  • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (2.45 GHz);
  • Memory: RAM – 6 GB, internal storage – 64 GB;
  • Camera: main – 12 MP, front – 5 MP;
  • Battery: 3400 mAh.

Who would have thought that the company with the first serial frameless smartphone It will be Xiaomi. The first generation of the Mi Mix line caused a real sensation in the smartphone market, although the device itself was very far from ideal. This time, the manufacturer set about correcting its mistakes and presented Mi Mix 2 to the public.

The first thing that was fixed was the display diagonal. The predecessor Mi Mix 2 was too bulky, so the screen diagonal was reduced to an acceptable six inches. The device has become much lighter, and it is now more comfortable to hold in your hands. The changes also affected conversational dynamics. Now the model uses a regular narrow speaker, as Mi Mix users constantly complained about the poor vibration sound transmission system.

The display of Mi Mix 2 still causes pure delight - it looks so unusual compared to other smartphones. In terms of aesthetics, Mi Mix 2 can only be compared with the frameless Samsung Galaxy S8 of 2017. The level of brightness and color rendition here is quite acceptable, except that the picture sometimes “falls” into warm colors. In the settings you can enable automatic contrast, which will change depending on the ambient lighting.

The latest Snapdragon 835 processor allows achieving flagship level of performance, which is confirmed by synthetic benchmarks. The interface animation is extremely smooth, the same goes for games. In WoT: Blitz the device supports a stable frame rate of 60 fps at maximum settings graphics. It is noteworthy that the battery capacity of the new product has decreased by as much as 1000 mAh since its predecessor - to 3400 mAh. It’s difficult to call Mi Mix 2 a long-liver; it will last a maximum of one day without a power outlet in mixed operating mode.

Mi Mix 2 uses a 12-megapixel photosensor from Xiaomi Mi6, although the lens optics are worse (f/2.0 versus f/1.8 in Mi 6). There is optical stabilization. In place of the front camera was a simple budget 5-megapixel photosensor. In general, the Mi Mix 2 shoots rather mediocrely; the phone definitely won’t stand up to competition with flagships.

Conclusion:XiaomiMiMix 2 is worth buying if only for the design of the smartphone itself. The model will cost less thanSamsungGalaxyS8 2017, but it also shoots worse.

What will Xiaomi Mi7 be like?

The future flagship of Xiaomi will be shown only at the end of next month, but the Internet already has the first renderings of the new product. Judging by the photo, what really awaits us is frameless phone with a large widescreen display. Externally, the new flagship most closely resembles an inverted Mi Mix 2 with thinner frames.

According to insiders, Mi7 will also receive a dual camera, wireless charging and a fingerprint scanner on the back cover. However, the main innovation of the model will be the yet unreleased flagship Snapdragon 845 processor. latest generation Chipsets should also be expected in top smartphones of 2018-2019 from other brands.

Apple smartphones have always been an expensive pleasure, but with the anniversary iPhone X, the guys from Apple have taken the principle “they won’t go anywhere - they’ll buy it” to the absolute. Because this is the first smartphone whose high price even Americans are unhappy with. But Tim Cook brushes it off, saying, “buy in installments, on credit or with promotions,” because the iPhone X is worth it. Is it worth it?

Yes and no. Yes, because in 2017 there is no abundance of high-quality flagships in everything. We have an LG G6 - a good mobile phone, but slow due to the old processor. There is Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, in which the frames are conspicuous due to the wide body, and the cameras are taken from some budget consumer goods. There is the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, the most technologically advanced “on paper”, but rather “sad” in reality - it takes so-so photos, the body is bulky, the stereo speakers are quiet... Who else? Huawei flagships They can’t boast of anything other than cameras, HTC U11 is a glossy, polished “shovel” in an outdated design. What remains, who would doubt it, is Samsung.

And not just any, but the Galaxy Note 8, because the S8 turned out to be a “under-flagship” - with a rearrangement straight from the Galaxy S7 edge camera, soap dish shaped case, not working in Russia (and many other countries) voice assistant Bixby and a fingerprint scanner “in hard-to-reach places.”

But a record-breakingly powerful processor, a cool screen and buyers’ longing for the new Samsung flagships (Galaxy Note 7, as you remember, went out of sale ahead of schedule) did their job. And the Galaxy Note 8 has become a real, full-fledged flagship - angular and more convenient, with a new dual rear camera and an “adult” amount of RAM of 6 GB. And it costs... at least 70 thousand rubles. That is, 15% cheaper than the “minimal” iPhone X.

In thousands of rubles, the overpayment is significant, but in percentage terms it is tolerable. In the end, iPhone lovers paid 68 thousand rubles for the iPhone 7 Plus over the past year without any problems. It is unlikely that these same people will suffer from hunger when they sell at a profit old iPhone for 30-38 thousand and they will get out of wide trousers an amount of new model. Because wireless charging, a new case, processor and improved camera were not enough to make the iPhone 8/8 Plus “take off.” Outdated the day it came out and expensive iPhone model- who needs it?

And the iPhone X is needed because it has one competitor, which is in many respects equivalent: in terms of camera performance, the difference between the X and Note 8 is small, the display is about as good, Apple’s processor is much better, little is known about autonomy, but according to In all likelihood, Samsung will take the lead. The water protection on the iPhone is less brutal, there is no stylus (although few people need it), and you can also live without a memory card and a headphone jack... but it’s sad.

Truly new habits with the iPhone X are unlocking without a fingerprint scanner and a cutout for the speaker and sensors at the top of the display. It turned out ugly, but the piezo speaker under the screen, like in Xiaomi Mi Mix, does not shine with quality (so much so that the Chinese abandoned it in Mi Mix 2), the front camera is at chin level and the indentation for sensors is there - the same level of insanity as "neckline" in iPhone X.

But there is a solid screen at the bottom instead of a “beard” and the dimensions are like the Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) with a 5-inch display. Even in the “frameless” LG Q6, with the same dimensions, only a 5.5-inch (and not 5.8”, like the iPhone) display fits - the iPhone X is incredibly compact.

But political wisdom says that “those who do not understand will understand.” We have just such a situation - those who loved Apple smartphones before will whine for a long time, will suffer financially, but will buy at least a basic modification of the iPhone X. Anyone who wants “something similar, but cheaper” will buy a Samsung Galaxy S8 from small resellers for 38 -40 thousand. The most economical guys will wait until Huawei and Xiaomi learn to make frameless flagships, and will buy this stuff for 25-28 thousand on Aliexpress in December-February.

iPhone X is unlikely to be taken as quickly as more cheap models, but it will not go unnoticed - Apple fans have been waiting for a “revolution” in mobile phone design for too long, and have long been ready to pay for it.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 - “Make it like Samsung, but cheaper”

Bruce Willis, they say, in life and on film sets is a very gloomy and nervous man, many of his fellow actors do not like him. But he can afford to be capricious, because he is the last boy scout and in general a superhero without a latex suit - such a rarity now. So Apple has the rights of a legislator, and thanks to the beautifully structured interaction of computers, mobile phones and stores of licensed stuff, they drive up prices and do not lose any prestige. But will they take the expensive Xiaomi for its merits in the style of “we have been selling you the most cheap smartphones with powerful processors! - doubtful. But the Chinese do not lose hope and passionately justify why Mi Mix 2 should become popular.

Because it has a solid ceramic body, a flagship processor, a 6-inch screen in a 5.5-inch body, and the minimum amount of RAM is the same as the maximum in the Samsung Galaxy S8. And the display is now with the same proportions, and not “squared”, as it was in the first generation Mi Mix.

Cool? Very! In terms of speed, organization of the display in the body and body materials, this is so far the only Chinese rival to the Galaxy S8 and iPhone X.

Only it is not a competitor in other respects - the screen is beautiful, but in terms of quality it does not reach the “best” models. There is no water protection, there is no headphone jack (adapters came in Chinese models) the cameras are cheap, the sound in the headphones is also not outstanding, the battery life is average. But the price, to put it mildly, is not average: when ordering from China, Xiaomi will cost only 5 thousand less than the Samsung Galaxy S8. It’s scary to imagine how much they will ask for Mi Mix 2 in the official Russian store. And what’s also a little confusing is the fact that the “elite Chinese phone” OnePlus 5, which is not frameless, but better in all other respects, costs 28 thousand. The new Korean LG G6 costs the same amount with a clearer screen, more quality cameras and water protection (with an old processor, though).

In general, an attempt to push Samsung flagships and Apple with the most expensive Xiaomi model will end up beating the latter in most respects. And the Mi Mix 2 will have difficulty competing with its Chinese relatives due to impracticality and poor cameras - there is a risk that the Huawei Mate 10 with a new processor and 18:9 screen will be ahead in almost all respects and not much more expensive.

It turns out that Xiaomi has built a high-speed “cruiser” with huge screen and good autonomy. Here it is, a replacement for the second generation Xiaomi Mi Note and the only “moderately large” Xiaomi in the 2017 model range.

At the same time, Mi Note 3 was reclassified from a “cheaper substitute for Samsung Galaxy Note 5/7” into a completely new model. Coincidence? Don't think!

Xiaomi Mi Note 3 - when you want a camera like a flagship, but without paying extra for a super-powerful processor

I’m trying to find competitors for Mi Note 3 with a similar construction idea and I understand that such smartphones were no longer produced in 2017. Do you remember the trends of 2016, when the dollar rose not only against the ruble, but also against other currencies outside the eurozone? During this wonderful time, smartphone manufacturers suddenly faced a situation where people, frightened by the new realities, stopped spending money on flagships at new prices and, at best, bought models at the price that appeared before the price increase.

Xiaomi Mi Note 3

But this didn’t make it any easier for the producers: the founders of the party said “we must!” - the Komsomol department of advertisers and marketers answered “yes!” As a result, flagship smartphones with a degraded processor were born at a more or less reasonable price - LG G5 SE or HTC 10 Lifestyle, for example. In Russia, the prices for them, however, were still inadequate, because with an exchange rate of 75 rubles per dollar it was impossible to do otherwise. But the Brazilians and other Latin Americans appreciated the maneuver.

In 2017, no one is engaged in such activities anymore - there is no point in changing only the processor in a full-fledged flagship, if they are already buying it. And those who need cheaper smartphones buy all sorts of “Lite/mini/Play” or smartphones with a standard name instead of full-fledged flagships with the Plus/Premium/Pro index. There are not even larger or smaller smartphones with average-power processors and cameras straight from the flagship. In this regard, Mi Note 3 is unique.

Watch your hands: we take the standard 5.15-inch flagship Xiaomi Mi 6, scale it to 5.5 inches, instead of the Qualcomm processor “the coolest” Snapdragon 835 we install a middle-class model with an index of 660. So that buyers do not lament too loudly about “castration flagship”, we distract them with a new high-quality snapshot camera. And we sell this stuff for 21–24 thousand rubles in China!

In terms of its intended purpose, the smartphone is very similar to the Huawei Nova 2 Plus, but we know that the camera in the Nova is pleasant, but only at an “above average” level (and the processor is below average, but let’s not talk about sad things).

Why not? The glass and metal body is very beautiful, especially in blue. It is even more pleasant to hold in your hand compared to the Mi 6, because the weight remains the same as the 5.15-inch model, but the dimensions have increased, and the smartphone no longer looks like a heavy piece of soap with a metal frame.

Xiaomi Mi Note 3

And yet, the main drama unfolded around the processor. With the departure of the powerful, but hot and old Snapdragon 650/652, Qualcomm plugged the hole in model range the cheap Snapdragon 625 was “boosted” to the limit. Manufacturers were at first happy that they got a fast (in applications, not games, though) and economical processor without pretensions to coolness, but then the 625th turned into “Bezrukov of mobile phones.” That is, it’s good that we have Sasha Bely, but not everyone was ready to see him in the roles of Pushkin, Yesenin and Jesus Christ. Therefore, when Snapdragon 625 and its derivatives (626/630) began to be installed in smartphones costing 30 thousand rubles or more (ASUS ZenFone 3 Zoom, Moto Z2 Play), some misunderstanding arose and the smartphones did not work. Snapdragon 660 came to become a real intermediate option between the flagship 835 and the already consumer-consumable old models of the 600 series.

And it did, although it turned out to be so deeply “cut off” in comparison with the Snapdragon 835 that it was inferior even to last year’s flagship, the Snapdragon 820. That is, history repeated itself when the Snapdragon 652 replaced the 808 and 810 models. But this chip has become much faster in games (by 30%, according to Qualcomm), it performs better in applications, and it has a dedicated chip for photo and video processing. That is, the difference in processor power should not affect the quality of photos and videos in Mi Note 3.

In general, the new Xiaomi product has a right to exist - only cheaper flagships costing 27–30 thousand rubles can ruin its sales. Because last year’s OnePlus takes pictures no worse than the Mi Note 3 a year later, and taking into account the “inferior” processor in Xiaomi, it also turns out to be faster. And we shouldn’t forget about models that are sharply losing in price either: HTC 10 and LG G6, with a difference of about 3-4 thousand rubles from Xiaomi, are in almost all respects better than the controversial new Mi-series.

ASUS ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 4 Pro - the “pan” photo king, or it’s gone

Advantages: The camera characteristics are impressive - “on paper” everything is of the highest standard
stereo speakers
high brightness displays
support the highest possible speed in 4G networks
Start of sales: October
Competitors: LG G6, OnePlus 3T, Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+, Apple iPhone 7 Plus
Price: ZenFone 4 - 33 thousand rubles ZenFone 4 Pro - 50 thousand rubles
Details: Characteristics of ASUS ZenFone 4 and ZenFone 4 Pro smartphones

“I don’t want to be a free queen, I want to be the mistress of the sea,” ASUS decided, and instead of continuing to produce inexpensive ZenFone and compete with Xiaomi and Huawei, they raised the prices of their mobile phones to the level of Samsung and Apple, starting in 2016. In the fourth generation of ZenFons, the situation, as you can see, has worsened.

It cannot be said that 33 thousand rubles in the basic ZenFone 4 are asking for nothing at all: high-aperture optics (f/1.8, like in the iPhone 7) and optical stabilization to combat shaking. And, what is especially impressive, the huge size of each individual pixel, 1.4 microns (the larger, the better night shots, and during the day there are fewer “rough” effects of digital noise) - Xiaomi Mi 6 and Huawei P10 “smoke on the sidelines”, because this is an indicator , comparable to the cameras in the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8.

It's only cooler in Google Pixel, but it’s extremely difficult to find this rapidly aging “glucodrome” on sale, so we’ll conclude that in terms of the technical component of the camera, even the basic ZenFone 4 is a sight for sore eyes! And the ZenFone 4 Pro is even cooler - f/1.7 aperture, the joint work of phase and laser focusing (a smartphone with them should perfectly navigate the shooting and focus itself), and three microphones are responsible for recording sound.

But this is where the pleasures end and troubles and other “worries” begin. Because an apartment in a Khrushchev block in the middle of nowhere, even if it has an interior worthy of an aristocrat and a TV worth millions of rubles, it’s still an apartment in a Khrushchev block. In the middle of nowhere.

Because the displays are ordinary. Bright, but for more than 30 thousand, almost everyone has them installed. The clarity is average, like your Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, which is 3 times cheaper than a mobile phone. Old Samsung For some reason, the Galaxy S7 for the same money is faster, water-resistant, has a better display, and has the same (if not cooler) camera, albeit a single one. Except without stereo speakers. You can also buy Huawei P10 from official suppliers - a Chinese product whose camera quality has been tested by time and a huge amount buyers. If ASUS really made a revolution and for the first time, in addition to good cameras, they learned to take photographs correctly with these “glasses,” there is no question. Without this, you immediately remember that Huawei is 50% faster in processor tasks and more than twice as fast in games.

ASUS ZenFone 4 is so expensive that only a super-quality camera can save it

If you understand the ideas of Xiaomi, which sells a smartphone with flagship cameras and a mid-range processor for 22–24 thousand, then for ZenFone 4 they will ask for 500 euros (the same 33–34 thousand rubles) even with delivery from abroad. That is, on the “gray” market, the junior Zenfon 4 will cost only 3 thousand less than the Samsung Galaxy S8, and 6 thousand rubles more than the current highest quality “Chinese phone”, OnePlus 5 or a frameless waterproof flagship with a Quad HD display , LG G6.

Who will buy ZenFone 4 Pro for 50 thousand rubles is an incomprehensible mystery. Remember how “reviewers” sang praises and gave out awards to last year’s ZenFone 3 Deluxe? Have you seen at least one owner of such a model in person since then?

In general, for success and sensation, the new ZenFone 4 will need to be head and shoulders above Huawei P10, Samsung Galaxy S7 and OnePlus 3T in terms of shooting quality - this is the only thing (oh yes, stereo speakers!) that ASUS can oppose to smartphones of equal price in Russia. ZenFone 4 Pro will have to outshine the Samsung Galaxy S8 and cameras in terms of sound and cameras. Apple iPhone 7Plus. Otherwise new ASUS will fail in sales and will be sold out in cell phone stores at the price “if only they can take it,” like Motorola’s flagships.

LG V30 is a rare kind of “large Korean luxury smartphone”

Advantages: ultra-clear OLED display (see AMOLED) - a first for LG smartphones
high-quality sound in headphones (dedicated DAC)
camera with record performance (aperture f/1.6) for good night shots and better daytime shots
Convenient manual settings for video shooting
water protection
Start of sales: already on sale (USA and South Korea) sales start in Europe - “autumn”
Competitors: Samsung Galaxy Note 8, Huawei Mate 9
Price: 900 euros (~62 thousand rubles)
Details:

The Xiaomi company (aka Xiaomi, Xiaomi and Shaomi in different pronunciations) was founded in April 2010 and since then has been supplying the Chinese market and beyond with gadgets that are excellent in price and performance. In May 2017 in Russian mobile market A scandal erupted related to the ban on the import of Xiaomi smartphones purchased abroad (the official seller of Smart Orange was greedy). However, the conflict ended in favor of users and now you can buy Xiaomi products without fear that it will be “wrapped up” at customs.

We present to you the best Xiaomi smartphones, which are worthy competition to famous European brands.

  • The case is frameless and completely made of ceramic. This increases its strength and reduces the risk of scratching an expensive device. At the same time, the thickness of the case is small - less than 8 mm.
  • The display diagonal is 6.4 inches.
  • A top-end quad-core Snapdragon 821 chip is installed.
  • Memory capacity of 128 and 256 GB is enough for both games and applications needed for business.
  • The manufacturer was generous with quality protective case. And this is good, because accessories for Mi Mix are not easy to find on sale.
  • The main 16 MP camera from OmniVision takes very good pictures, can shoot in 4K resolution and has many settings.
  • There is NFS.
  • Very capacious 4400 mAh battery.

Minuses:

  • Does not support microSD.
  • Fingerprints are visible very well.
  • The body is very slippery.

Cost, on average - 19,000 rubles.

This 5.5-inch device with a metal body comes with the latest MUUI 8.5 shell (version 9 is officially announced, but it is not yet released) based on Nougat. It has made many improvements such as Smart function Assistant for searching notes, calendar events and other items, built-in image search and a new file system.

Specifications:

  • Efficient octa-core Snapdragon 625 chipset.
  • 4 GB DDR4X RAM combined with 64 GB.
  • There is support for memory cards up to 128 GB.
  • Battery 3080 mAh.
  • There is a fingerprint scanner.
  • The most interesting feature of the smartphone is the dual camera: a main wide-angle lens with a 12-megapixel sensor, coupled with a telescopic lens with a 12-megapixel sensor. Thanks to this, the quality of the images is close to that of a DSLR. An additional advantage is the presence of portrait mode.
  • For better sound Xiaomi equipped its brainchild with a dedicated audio chip and a DHS sound tuning algorithm.

It's a pity that despite the high price, the Mi 5x is not equipped with an NFS chip. In addition, the smartphone was released quite recently, so firmware will have to wait.

Average price - 16,800 rubles.

The former flagship of Xiaomi, and now a strong "mid-range" with an unusual screen diagonal - 5.15 inches and one of the best Qualcomm processors - quad-core Snapdragon 820. The body of the device is made of metal, and back cover— glass, which is why a protective case is required to be purchased.

Among the useful options it is worth noting NFC support and the presence of a fingerprint sensor.

Available in three versions:

  • 3 GB memory for programs and 32 GB built-in storage
  • 3 GB memory for programs and 64 GB built-in storage
  • 4 GB of memory for programs 128 GB built-in storage. This model has a back cover that can be either glass or ceramic.

A distinctive feature of the device is an excellent 16 megapixel camera with a Sony sensor, optical stabilization and a dual-tone flash. It conveys details well even in low light, however initial settings It's still better to correct it.

But things are not too rosy with the battery - only 3000 mAh, fortunately there is support for Quick Charge 3.0. However, the smartphone’s processor is energy efficient, and the screen is not too large. Therefore, the battery will last for 2 days of active use.

In stores it costs about 20,000 rubles.

The difference between Mi 5 and Mi 5s is:

  • aluminum case for the Mi 5s version;
  • it has a 5.15-inch screen with a 2.5D effect;
  • more productive RAM type LPDDR4 with a frequency of up to 1866 MHz;
  • an improved version of the Snapdragon 821 processor from Qualcomm in the Mi 5s;
  • not 16, but 12 megapixel camera with Sony IMX378 sensor in Mi 5s;
  • and a little more capacious battery 3200 mAh, again, for Mi 5s.

Both models lack a memory card slot and have an NFS chip.

It is also worth noting that both Mi 5 and Mi 5s have a very annoying-looking black frame around the screen. It is especially noticeable on a device with a white casing.

1. Xiaomi Mi 6

You can get it for 29,990 rubles.

On the first line of the rating is 5.15 inch smartphone with a streamlined, sleek body made of glass and metal. There are also premium version 128 GB with a metal-ceramic body. But this is not the main feature of the gadget. It has the latest eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chip, created using a 10 nm process technology. Thanks to him everything latest games will “fly”, and the 3350 mAh battery will be enough for 2-3 days of active work.

Another nice feature is the presence of as much as 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 flash memory. But its expansion is not provided.

But such important little things as NFC and a fingerprint sensor Xiaomi fingers provided for.

The main camera of this model is dual, with a 12 megapixel Sony IMX378 sensor. Users praise the quality of night photography, comparable to such recognized camera phones as Huawei P10 and Galaxy S7.

And the smartphone, according to the manufacturer, is waterproof (and, according to rumors, because of this it lost a 3.5 mm port), so you can safely take it on vacation at sea. However, the standard of moisture protection is not specified and bathing the Mi 6 is not recommended.

After purchasing, do not forget to buy a cover, the body of the device is very slippery.

Summing up about Xiaomi smartphones: which is better?

  • If you need a top-end smartphone that you can not change for a couple of years, then pay attention to models such as Mi Mix, Mi 6 and Mi Note 2.
  • If the main thing is great camera, then we recommend Mi 5, Mi 5s or Mi 5x.
  • If you want to play games and read books on big screen and save on buying a tablet, then take a closer look at Mi Mix or Mi Max.
  • Suitable as a gift for relatives inexpensive models, such as Redmi Note 4, Redmi 4 Prime and Redmi Note 3 Pro.
