Registering iPhone 6 for the first time. Initial iPhone setup and optimization

Setting up the Internet on iPhone (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, X, SE) is a delicate and delicate process. Like any other more or less modern smartphone, the iPhone can connect to Wi-Fi, 3G, 4G, and in the near future, 5G. This seems obvious, but what could be so difficult about setting up the Internet?

However, many Apple users who have been using this company's smartphones relatively recently periodically encounter problems with incorrect settings, which is why they cannot use this function. In this article, we will tell you how to properly set up the Internet on your iPhone to get the most out of it.

Let's start with setting up mobile Internet on an iPhone, since it is the most common and in demand.

1. First, go to “Settings” → “General” section → “Network” tab.

2.In the “Cellular Communications” section, scroll down, find the “Cellular Data Communications” subsection and go into it.

3. Pay attention to the “Cellular Data” block. 3 fields must be filled in here: APN, username, password.

For mobile Internet operators, you must enter the following data:

MTSBeelineMEGAFON
APNinternet.mts.ruinternet.beeline.ruinternet
Usernamemtsbeeline(do not enter anything)
Passwordmtsbeeline(do not enter anything)
TELE 2YotaMotiveRostelecom
APNinternet.tele2.ruinternet.yotainet.ycc.ruinternet.etk.ru

Reset APN settings if problems occur

If all the data is entered correctly, but there is no Internet, the best solution would be to reset the APN settings for their subsequent automatic or manual entry. To return to default APN settings, do the following:

1. Open Settings.

2. Select the “Cellular” section.

4. Select the "Reset settings" function. If you have installed a configuration profile, the profile's default settings will be used instead.

Setting up (turning on and off) Wi-Fi on iPhone X, 8, 7, 6, 5

Next on our list is connecting and setting up a Wi-Fi network. Connecting to the network is extremely simple and the only data you will need to enter is the set password (if the network is not open or public).

Here's what you need to connect to Wi-Fi:

1. Tap the Settings icon on the home screen and then tap Wi-Fi.

2. Make sure the Wi-Fi slider is set to the active position, then select the network to connect to. If you have previously connected to a specific network, when you are within range of an access point, your smartphone will automatically connect to the network.

3. Once you select a network, a message will appear asking for a password .

4. Enter your network password.

5. Click the "Join" button.

6. Free, public Wi-Fi networks generally do not require passwords. However, before connecting to such networks, you should take care of security in order to avoid unpleasant situations with data loss and interception.

If you cannot click "Join", it means that the password you entered is incorrect. Please try again or contact your network administrator for further assistance.

Once you have successfully joined the network, a check mark will appear next to the network name and a Wi-Fi signal strength indicator will appear on the top left side of the screen.

Personally, I am convinced that paying store managers or service center workers for the initial setup of a new iPhone or iPad is stupid. There is nothing complicated about this; it is simply impossible to damage or disable the device during the process of setting it up, and therefore save your hard-earned money. In today’s publication, I will tell you about the initial setup of a newly purchased iOS device or after flashing it.

iPhone 6s setup video on iOS 11

I show how to set up an iPhone using the example of iPhone 6S (iOS 11) with the creation of an Apple ID:

This video was a real success on my YouTube channel. After it, I realized that the video instructions describe all the processes very well and are pleasant to watch.

Video of initial setup of iPhone 5s on iOS 11

Here I set up an iPhone 5S on iOS 11.4.1 and also create an Apple ID:

It seems that these videos are similar or even the same. Not really. Different devices and operating systems have a lot in common in the initial setup, but there are still differences. iOS 11.4.1 is the latest version of iOS 11. This system is unlikely to be updated further.

iPhone 5 setup video on iOS 10

And here I set up a very old iPhone 5 on iOS 10, create an Apple ID and download Telegram:

iOS 10 is already quite an ancient system today. It is no longer updated. I recorded this video on the latest version of iOS 10.

Setting up iPhone step by step

When you start your new iPhone or iPad for the first time, before the iOS desktop appears on its screen, you will need to carry out its initial setup, namely:

  1. connect your device to a wireless network ();
  2. enable or disable location services(you cannot skip this step, you will have to choose);
  3. set up iPhone as new or restored from a saved file or on your local computer;
  4. enter your Apple ID or create a new one (you can skip this step);
  5. accept the Terms of Use(Necessarily);
  6. create a fingerprint using Touch ID and set a lock password(you can configure it later);
  7. specify whether or not to send diagnostic and usage data to Apple(must be selected).

Setting up a new iPhone

Selecting a Wi-Fi network

If you are within range of a wireless network with Internet access, connect your device to a Wi-Fi network. This will make it possible to restore the device from a backup stored in iCloud (not relevant for new devices).

Geolocation

Here you can turn on or off location services, which allow Maps and similar apps to collect information about your geographic location.

Information about location services from the official Apple website:

“With location services, apps and websites that require location data (including Maps, Camera, Safari, and other Apple and third-party apps) can use information from cellular networks, Wi-Fi networks, GPS and iBeacons to determine your approximate location."

Location services will allow you to track your stolen or lost device in the Find iPhone app from another device or via iCloud. We recommend turning it on.

You can enable location services at any time in Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services.

Disabling geolocation services will extend the operation of the device on 1 battery charge. Location services can be turned off for specific device services.

On the next screen after Geolocation, you will be asked to set up your iPhone as new, restore it from a backup stored in iCloud or saved.

  • If you are setting up a new iPhone, restoring from a backup is not relevant to you, select “Set up as a new iPhone”.
  • If you are setting up an iOS device after restoring or updating the firmware, already at the stage of its initial setup you can restore all data and settings from a backup copy, and this can be done without connecting the device to the computer (via iCloud).

Apple ID

You can directly from the iPhone during the setup process or later, or the “iTunes Store, App Store” menu in the device settings.

Terms of use

Next, you must agree to the terms of use and accept the user agreement. Until you accept the agreement, you will not be able to complete setup or use the device. Personally, I have never read it and every time I blindly agree with all its provisions, I am sure that 99% of iOS device owners do so.

Touch ID and passcode

The penultimate setting allows you to create a fingerprint using Touch ID (relevant for the iPhone 5s and all future iOS devices with a fingerprint scanner in the Home button) and use it to unlock the device (switch from the LockScreen to the HomeScreen )) and authorization in the App Store.

In case you can’t unlock your iPhone 5s with your finger, after creating a fingerprint, you will be prompted to set a lock password.

You can skip this step; you can create a fingerprint and set a lock password later in iOS settings.

Diagnostics

The final step: determine whether you agree to send diagnostic data to Apple or not.

A standard request that will allow creators of iOS devices to receive information about failures and errors in the operation of the software (iOS) and hardware components of their devices.

There is only one step left until the final setup is completed - tap “Get Started”.

Once the desktop appears on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, you can use it to its full potential.
Let us remind you once again that all initial setup parameters can be set later in the iOS “Settings” menu and not “bother” with routine actions immediately after purchase.

  • Disabling geolocation services will allow you to extend the operation of your iOS device on 1 battery charge.
  • Do not disable all geolocation services at once, in iOS settings Privacy -> Geolocation Services -> System services: geolocation iAd, diagnostics and use, popular nearby, Wi-Fi networks, traffic jams, compass calibration. If you need any service, you can always turn it on.
  • Do not disable location services for the Find iPhone application (Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services -> Find iPhone), this will allow you to accurately determine the geographical location of the device if it is stolen or lost.
  • If you have an iCloud backup, connect your device to the Internet via Wi-Fi and select “Restore from iCloud Backup.” This will allow you to restore data and settings of the device without connecting to a computer.
  • If you have access to a computer and have a backup saved on it, connect the device to the computer with a USB cable and restore the data from the copy, this will be faster than restoring from iCloud.
  • If you have an Apple ID, enter it when you first set up your device; later you will not need to register it in the device settings.
  • You can create separate Apple IDs for the App Store and iCloud, this will increase the security of your device and purchases.
  • Read the user agreement, it may contain provisions with which you cannot agree, then you will have to return the iPhone to the seller.
  • If you have an iPhone 5s or any other device with Touch ID, do not be lazy to create a fingerprint to unlock the device and authorize in the App Store.
  • In case you cut yourself and Touch ID cannot identify your fingerprint, set a lock password and be sure to remember it; resetting it is quite difficult.
  • Initial setup can be left for later, skip connecting to Wi-Fi, select Turn off Location Services, set up as a new iPhone, skip the Apple ID sign-in step, accept the Terms of Service, select Set up later Touch ID, do not add a lock password, Disable sending diagnostic data to Apple. All this can be done later in iOS settings.

If you have any questions, additions or suggestions while reading the material, we will be grateful if you put them in the comments to the publication. We promise not to delay our answer! More information about iPhone design, capabilities and settings can be found in the User Guide (in PDF format).

Apple technology is one of the easiest to use. With each new version of iOS, developers try to simplify the system and make it as comfortable as possible for owners. But despite this, inexperienced users still have problems setting up Apple gadgets upon first activation. Let's look at all the settings and their nuances in detail.

Setting up iPhone, iPad and iPod from scratch: description of all points

The initial setup largely determines the level of quality and ease of interaction with the device. Despite the fact that many of its points can be skipped or changed later, for optimal operation of the gadget it is recommended to carry out all the necessary manipulations at the start.

Selecting a country, setting time and date

Once your Apple device starts up, a welcome message will appear on the screen. Swiping it aside will take you to the interface language options. Next you will need to select your country. After this, based on the time zone data of the selected region, the time and date will be determined automatically.

Connect to a wireless network

Connecting to Wi-Fi will be useful when performing subsequent device setup steps, in particular creating a new Apple ID or connecting an existing one (if you use one authentication system on several Apple gadgets). However, if you intend to save time or simply do not have access to a Wi-Fi network at the moment, you can skip this step.

Geolocation

In this device settings item, you are prompted to enable or disable geolocation. Location services are responsible for collecting information about your geographic coordinates. They are used by apps like Maps, Instagram, Camera, etc. to calculate your approximate location. You can also track your Apple device using location services. This function will come in very handy if the gadget is lost or stolen. As for the advantages of turning off geolocation - it will save battery power.

You can activate or deactivate location services at any time by going to Apple's settings. Also, their effect can be limited for some programs.

Setting up iPhone, iPad, iPod

At this stage it is proposed:

  • set up your Apple device as new;
  • restore it from iCloud backup;
  • restore the device from a backup copy on a local disk.

If your smartphone or tablet is completely new and you are setting it up from scratch, don’t hesitate to select the first option. However, when setting up a gadget after a firmware upgrade or system recovery, it will be more relevant to use backup copies of data.

Apple ID

The next step is to create an Apple ID or log into an existing account. Apple ID is an account that gives access to applications such as the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, etc. To create it, you will need to fill out the following information:

  • FULL NAME.;
  • e-mail to which the account will be linked;
  • account password;
  • select security questions and answers to them (required to restore your account);
  • Date of Birth;
  • spare email;
  • mailing address.

If you decide to skip this step, you can add or create a new Apple ID through your device settings at any time.

Terms of Use

Next, you must accept the terms of the license agreement for use. This point is mandatory and cannot be skipped. It's no secret that 99% of Apple users accept the terms of use without reading them. But if you decide to conscientiously read the full list of nuances of the user agreement and still disagree with some point, the only way out is to reject the terms of use and return the device to the store.

Touch ID and passcode

Acceptance of the terms of use will take you to the final stages of setup - creating a fingerprint using Touch ID and a password. These options will help protect your smartphone or tablet from unauthorized use. Confirming your password and/or fingerprint is required when unlocking the gadget (moving from the lock screen to the desktop) and logging into the App Store. You can skip this step and create a password and fingerprint at any other time by going to iOS settings.

The Touch ID function works on Apple devices with a fingerprint scanner, i.e. from iPhone 5s and higher. On older gadget models, a standard password is used.

Diagnostics

The final step requires you to agree or not to send system diagnostic data to Apple. The request is very standard and there is nothing in it that would violate confidentiality. On the contrary, information about errors and failures in the iOS system will allow developers to improve it and correct shortcomings in subsequent updates.

Having finished with the last stage of setup, all that remains is to click the “Get Started” button and enjoy using your Apple device.

First launch and setup of an iPad, iPhone or iPod immediately after purchase - video

Apple's initial setup does not take much time and requires minimal manipulation. Most of the steps, namely connecting to Wi-Fi, geolocation, creating an Apple ID, Touch ID and password, can simply be postponed until later. The iOS system makes it possible not only to return to setting all these options at any time, but also to change them in the future, based on personal preferences.

If not, then without a shadow of a doubt, go straight to clause 8.

2. Make sure you have a backup from your old device

Owners of previous iPhones - 5s, 5c, 4s, 4 - can easily and conveniently transfer all their favorite applications, valuable data and familiar settings to their new Apple smartphone. This will require backup copy. This can be done either through iTunes or through the Apple iCloud cloud service.

3. How to make a backup of iPhone using iTunes

Make sure you have the most current version of iTunes. To do this, open the application, in the menu bar, click iTunes, then - Updates...To make a backup of data on old smartphone, connect it to your computer via USB. Select the device in the section Automatic creation of copies please indicate This computer, then - Create a copy now. As a result, a full backup will be saved on your computer. copy data from old iPhone.

4. How to backup iPhone using iCloud

Only important data is stored in Apple's cloud service. On the other hand, there's a good chance you already have a copy of iCloud: devices running iOS 7 back up data once a day if they're locked, connected to a charger, and connected to Wi-Fi—provided, of course, you have free space in iCloud. The following data is saved: photos, accounts, documents, Health data, HomeKit configurations, and system settings. If this is not enough, use the option from step 3.

To check when the last copy was made, take your smartphone and go to Settings —> iCloud —> Backup. Make sure the switch is active (labeled On, green slider); if necessary, enter the password for your iCloud account. Then click Create a backup.

5. How to set up your new iPhone 6/6 Plus (initial setup)

Insert a nano-SIM card into your smartphone and turn it on with the power button on the right side.

The message will appear on the screen Hello(or Halo) - touch the screen and swipe right on the inscription Set up.

You'll then be able to choose from three options - restoring data from iCloud, iTunes, or setting up as a new iPhone (we'll talk about this option below). Select the appropriate option.

6. How to restore settings on a new iPhone from iTunes

Connect your new iPhone via USB to the computer where you have backed up your data. There are two ways:

A) File -> Devices -> Restore from backup, or
b) Click on the gadget icon in the top menu bar, in the section BackupsRestore from copy.

Once the data recovery process is complete, your iPhone will restart. After this, copying of media files (music, etc.) will begin, so do not disconnect your smartphone from the computer until the procedure is completed.

7. How to restore settings on a new iPhone from iCloud

If your old iPhone is backed up to iCloud (see 4 ), select recovery from iCloud, press Further and enter your and password, then specify the copy to be restored. The process may take longer if you have a lot of data. After the restoration is complete, the smartphone will reboot.

If you want to synchronize data that is not in the backup (music, video, etc.), you will have to connect to iTunes and do additional synchronization.

The exception is for iTunes Match subscribers, who can download music and apps directly from iCloud.

By the way, for this method it is not necessary to connect your iPhone to your computer - just connect it to an outlet and then access the Internet via a Wi-Fi network.

8. For users who have this first iPhone

If your previous smartphone was a device on Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, Bada, Symbian, a regular dialer, etc., then at this stage you don’t need to do anything special. Simply set up your iPhone as a new device and transfer your data. Read more about this below.

9. How to activate iPhone 6/6 Plus (for beginners)

Unbox your iPhone, insert the nano SIM card into it and turn it on by long pressing the power button (on the right side panel). When you see the inscription Hello(or Halo), swipe your finger across the screen from left to right. Next, the system will ask you what language you would like to use and what country in the world you live in. Location services (GPS) - a setting for Apple applications and third-party programs that use your geolocation in their work.

Your device will then try to find a Wi-Fi network to activate. If there is no one nearby, or you want to activate your smartphone via the mobile Internet, just click Next.

From now on, you can set up your iPhone as new device.

10. Create an Apple ID.

The next - and very important - step: creating Apple ID. This ID will be required to download games, programs, music and movies from the App / iTunes Store, communicate through and, synchronize and store personal documents. Strictly speaking, without an Apple ID, your iPhone is just a “dialer” and a device for accessing the Internet through a browser.

You can do it in two ways. You can find detailed instructions on creating an Apple ID account. Pay special attention to security questions— it’s best to write them down in your notebook and keep it in a safe place! (you can find out why this is so important).

11. How to transfer emails, contacts and calendars to your iPhone 6 (for beginners)

If you use Gmail or any other POP or IMAP email, its data is already synchronized with the main server. To access mail from your iPhone, open the Mail app and enter your account information. iOS will automatically adjust settings for Microsoft Exchange, Gmail, Yahoo, Aol and Hotmail. If you have a different email address, you can enter the data manually. It is best to obtain the relevant data from the website of the “mail service” itself (Yandex.Mail, Rambler, Mail.ru).

Transfer contacts possible in several ways. The simplest one is to reset all contacts from your old phone to a SIM card, insert it into the iPhone, go to Settings, then to the section Mail, addresses, calendars and choose Import contacts with SIM. Another option is to save all contacts from your old device on your PC in .vcf (vCard) format using Apple ID log into your account on icloud.com, select Contacts and then Import vCard. The selected contacts will appear on iPhone after syncing with iCloud.

To add a calendar to your iPhone(for example, from a Google account), in the same section (Mail, addresses, calendars) select Add account - Google, enter your account information and activate the Calendar item.

I'll show you how to set up your iPhone from the very first start. I'll show you how to create an Apple ID, set a password and other first difficulties.

1. Turning on the iPhone for the first time.

First, turn on the iPhone. Press and hold the power button on your iPhone for 1-2 seconds. On older versions of iPhone (iPhone 4,4s,5,5c,5s) it is on the top, on new ones (iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus) it is on the right. First, a white apple will appear on a black background, and then a greeting in different languages: Hello, Greetings, and so on. We need to swipe from left to right to begin setting up the iPhone for the first time.

First, you need to select the language of the iPhone and the language of its interface. Click on the language in which you want to set up your iPhone. I'll choose Russian.

Enable or disable geolocation. Next, you can enable geolocation to turn on the GPS module on your iPhone and it will determine what place you are in in order to offer you, for example, the weather of exactly the place where you are currently or the nearest store, or set you the current time zone when you move from one city to another or from one country to another. Or to determine where you are currently located so you can find yourself on the map. The iPhone can also remember places you frequently visit and track your movements. I wrote about this in an article.

But the GPS module consumes battery power and we don’t need it at the moment, so I’ll turn it off by selecting disable geolocation services. Geolocation can be enabled later or allowed to be used for a specific application while it is running.

Now we come to the step of using an existing Apple ID or creating a new Apple ID.

2. Create an Apple ID.

If you haven’t had an iPhone or iPad yet or want to create a new Apple ID, then choose to set up as a new iPhone. If you already have an Apple ID and want to use it, then select restore from iCloud copy or restore from iTunes copy. I talked about restoring an iPhone in an article.

I'll show you how to set up an iPhone with a new Apple ID and choose set up like a new iPhone.

Apple ID is your account on iOS (iPhone or iPad) for use on Apple devices.

Using Apple ID, you can purchase applications, music, movies on your iPhone, send free imessages (SMS messages between iPhones and iPads), make FaceTime calls (free video calls between iPhones and iPads), and more.

In general, without an Apple ID, it’s neither here nor there, and its presence is mandatory.

Now select and indicate your first and last name.

To create an Apple ID, you need an email address. You can specify your existing mailbox, various notifications about purchasing applications in the AppStore (when you make them), security notifications and other letters from Apple will be sent there.

You can create a new mailbox on the Apple server and link the new email mailbox to your Apple ID. To do this, select get a free e-mail in iCloud and click next.

Now let's come up with your new e-mail. It will be of this type: [email protected]. This will be your Apple ID login.

To switch the keyboard from Russian to English, click on the globe icon at the bottom left.

After you have come up with an e-mail, click next.

Confirm the creation of the e-mail by clicking Create.

Now you need to create a password for your Apple ID. Your Apple ID password cannot be less than 8 characters long and must contain at least one number, one uppercase letter, and one lowercase letter.

That is, the password should be like: Genadii6 or Kartohul0 or 4etyResta or dvustoroniiDild0.

After you have come up with a good password and confirmed it, click next.

Now you need to select security questions and come up with answers to them. Security questions are used to identify the user when changes are made to account information.

Click on select a question.

Can choose:

  • childhood best friend name
  • the name of your first pet
  • the first dish you learned to cook
  • the first film you saw in the cinema
  • where did you fly on an airplane for the first time?
  • the name of your favorite teacher

I chose the question the name of my childhood best friend and answered it. The answer can be absolutely anything. The main thing is that you remember this answer if something happens to your Apple ID account.

After choosing a question and answering it, click next.

And finally, the third question and answer and click next.

Now we indicate a backup mailbox, in case your main e-mail is not available to you, you can restore access to your Apple ID through the backup mailbox. This e-mail will be used for security purposes only.

After you have indicated your mailbox, click next.

Now setting up updates. Get Apple news and software updates, and the latest information about Apple products and services.

I don't want to receive news and information from Apple in my email, so I'll turn off these updates.

We now accept Apple's terms and conditions. Read and click accept.

We confirm our acceptance of the terms and conditions of iOS, iCloud and Game Center.

Click accept.

The creation of a new Apple ID begins. We wait a few seconds or minutes.

Now we are asked to use iCloud. iCloud is Apple's cloud storage service and allows you to automatically access music, photos, apps, contacts, calendars and more across all your devices.

If you don’t have a computer, then you definitely need to use iCloud to save your contacts and music and programs to your iCloud account, and if you lose your iPhone or iPad, then you could buy a new iPad or iPhone to restore your contacts and photos and programs for a new iPhone or iPad.

If you have a computer, then you can save your backup copy of your iPhone or iPad, which will store your contacts, photos, programs, etc., to your computer via iTunes.

I'll click don't use iCloud

I confirm that I really don't want to use iCloud.

Click do not use.

3. Create a password for iPhone

Now you need to create a password for your iPhone or iPad so that no one can take it, get into your place and look at your photos, videos, correspondence and other personal information.

First, create a simple four-digit password.

Confirm the new created password by entering it again.

You can change your iPhone password later if you want. You can even set a complex password consisting of numbers and letters in different languages. I already wrote about this earlier in the article.

4. Diagnostics and use.

Now let’s configure the “Diagnostics and Usage” item. Automatically sending diagnostic and usage data will help Apple improve its products and services. Diagnostic data may contain geodata.

That is, you can help Apple by clicking “send automatically”, then periodically your iPhone or iPad will send data about your use to Apple: in which applications and how long you sit, where you are, where you click, what settings you use, what you write, etc. All this helps to understand who uses their products and how. If you do not want your data to be sent periodically to Apple, then select "do not send."

I select "do not send".

I wrote about sending statistics to Apple and other tracking on the iPhone in an article.

iPhone. Welcome!

Click start work.

Ready. Your new iPhone or iPad is set up and you can start using it.

5. Turn on mail on iPhone

First, you can enable mail by going to Settings > Mail, addresses, calendars.

In iCloud settings, click on the mail slider to enable receiving mail on your iPhone or iPad.

Now the slider is green, which means it is turned on.

6. Other first iPhone settings

iCloud Drive. Store your files in iCloud and access them anytime across all your devices. Please note: Your documents currently stored in iCloud will not be accessible on your other devices until those devices are updated to iOS 8 or OS X Yosemite.

iCloud Drive can store all your settings and files from your Apple devices. You can click upgrade to iCloud Drive.

Siri helps you solve problems with a simple request. You can make a phone call, send a message, dictate a note, or check the forecast using Siri. If you want to play around or want to control your iPhone or iPad with your voice, then click Use Siri.

Siri is similar to Google Now, where you can say Okay Google and then say what to do: for example, call your mom or turn on music and so on.

7. Setting up Game Center on iPhone.

When you first launch the game on your iPhone, you will need to set up Game Center. Game Center stores your achievements from games on Apple devices, and Game Center can also store your saves from games and you can start playing a game on an iPhone and continue playing on an iPad (in this case, the same Apple ID must be used on the iPhone and iPad) .

Enter your Apple ID and password and click Sign In.

Privacy. You can make your gaming profile public so that other players can see what your achievements in games are and what you play. Or make your profile private.

Click Next.

Friend Recommendations. Recommendations from friends. You can give Game Center access to your contacts and if they have an Apple ID and a Game Center account, you will receive notifications about the games they are playing and you can play games with them (for example, poker with each other).

Or you can not give access to your contacts and not play with your friends from your contacts.

Click Done.
