Disassembling iPod touch 4. IFixit disassembled the sixth generation iPod touch

This autumn turned out to be many times more interesting for fans of techno-porn voluminous galleries from iFixit. Because, unlike last fall, both iPhone and iPod touch transformed at once. When devices change externally, they also receive a completely new layout of parts. Introductory round with iPhone 5, the new touch is now aimed at preventive opening.

If you can’t take the player out of the package, how difficult will it be to disassemble it? Fortunately, Apple has placed a picture on the transparent plastic that shows exactly this method of removal:

You need to blow on the player with an industrial hair dryer for 30 seconds to soften the glue. After this, you can carefully pry up the front panel with a plastic tool.

However, it's not just about the glue. The frame around the front panel is also secured with side latches - so that the master will certainly damage something during the dismantling process. But this is not about iFixit.

The shielding plate is mounted on several screws. All the most interesting things are hidden under it.

Detaching the display from the back half is harder than it looks. It will not be possible to remove the motherboard at this stage, since its non-removable cable (orange) is laid directly under the battery. You have to use some skill to disconnect the display connectors while hanging.

But this is the same component that fits closely to the plastic insert in the right top corner rear panel. Most likely in front of us wifi antenna(label C 2712).

Under motherboard There is a single cable with volume keys, microphone, flash and Power button. The failure of any of these components will automatically mean replacing the entire cable.

It’s good that the 5-megapixel camera module is detachable.

Frustration of the day - Home button in new touch. It is based on a rubber membrane and is not very reliable, unlike its counterpart from the iPhone 5.

The battery is glued to the back panel, but the indentations on the side still allow it to be picked up and peeled off without damaging the cells.

The best music player On the market. Essentially, this is the same iPhone 5 only thinner and without a SIM card module. But just like any other gadget, the iPod touch can break down and become unusable.

In order to bring the device into good condition, you need to disassemble it. But how to do this? After all, there is not a single screw on the iPod and the case seems inseparable. In this article we will tell you how to disassemble an iPod.

Let's start disassembling. To do this, we will need a whole set of tools and, preferably, an industrial hair dryer (a regular one will also work). The design of the iPod touch is similar to the iPad. The fact is that the front panel with the display is attached to the rest of the body with special glue. Therefore, a set of tools from an iPad or iPhone will also work.

So, let's start disassembling the player. We warm up the front panel along the entire perimeter with a hairdryer. After that, use a plastic spatula to carefully lift the structure with the display, but do not make sudden movements, as you can damage the cable. You cannot detach the screen right away. On the front panel there is a frame with latches along the entire perimeter to secure the components during dismantling.

Next you need to disconnect the display cable from the motherboard. You simply won’t be able to do this, since the connector that connects the board and the display is located inconveniently. You will have to do this procedure by weight.

Then we remove the Wi-Fi module. Using a plastic spatula, simply disconnect it from the board.

We continue dismantling, removing the structure which is combined into one train. It contains: a camera module, flash, microphone, volume and Power buttons. If even one part of this design breaks, then everything will have to be replaced together, except for the camera, which detaches on its own.

If there were problems with the display or the Home button was faulty, we disassemble the screen module. But you can only rent here Home button, since the glass and display are a single structure to avoid dust.

Removing the battery is easy. Just pick it up with a plastic spatula and take it out.

To remove the motherboard, you need to disconnect the Lightning module. To do this, unscrew the four screws.

Important: Disassembling your device will void your warranty. The site is not responsible for your device. If you are not confident in your abilities, contact a certified service center.

Tools which are needed to disassemble the phone can be found for example . It is also advisable to use an industrial hair dryer. Of course, you can use a regular hair dryer, but it will take longer to heat the surface.

Instructions

1) Warm up the player display with a hairdryer to soften the glue that holds the display

2) Using a plastic tool, pry up the front panel of the player. Be careful and you may need a towel, if you are using a hairdryer the body is very hot.

3) This is what you should get. Be careful, due to a feature of the 4th generation iPod touch, the touchpad cable cannot be disconnected until the motherboard is removed.

4) Now you need to unscrew the 8 screws shown in the figure below

5) Remove the metal protection plate. Pay attention to the location indicated by the orange circle. There is a cable there that can tear very easily, so be careful when removing the metal plate.

6) When removing the metal plate, be careful there is a copper strip in the place where the rear camera of the player is located, so as not to tear it.

7) Disconnect the cable.

8) Now unscrew the screw to remove the headphone jack.

9) In order to remove the motherboard we will need to unscrew the 3 screws shown in the figure below.

10) Next you can remove rear camera player.

11) Now, using a plastic tool, lift the motherboard a little on both sides, on the side where the copper strip is located and where shown in the figure below. This must be done very carefully since the board is very thin.

12) After the motherboard is removed. We have access to the volume and power buttons.

13) Using a metal spatula, peel off the cable if you need to replace it. The buttons do not have any special holders; they are glued very well to withstand strong pressure.

14) Now to detach the display, remove the copper strip. It would be better to do this easier using tweezers.

Is one of the most best players in the mobile electronics market. It combines a stylish and pleasant design, powerful hardware, large memory capacity and a magnificent screen. Thanks to this, it has gained popularity among people all over the world. But like any high-tech gadget, it can break.

The thing is that after a fall or moisture, the device stops working stably or even turns into a brick. Therefore, you need to go to a workshop or disassemble the device yourself. A workshop is always more expensive and you will have to give your expensive devas into the wrong hands. But it’s better to do everything yourself; this article will tell you how to disassemble the iPod touch yourself.

Before disassembling, you must obtain necessary tools. You can use a set of professional tools for disassembling and dismantling Apple devices, they are perfect, and you also need a good industrial hair dryer with which we will heat up our player.

So, let's start disassembling our iPod touch. To do this, heat the front panel with a hairdryer so that the adhesive substance softens. After this, use a plastic tool to pry up the screen structure around the entire perimeter of the front panel. Having pryed the screen, carefully lift it and place it next to the body. You need to be careful, because the screen is now supported by only two cables and it is very easy to damage them.

One of the loops can be disconnected immediately, but with the second it will not be possible to do so easily. After all, its fastening goes under a special shielding plate. Display and protective touch glass combined into one design, which is a disadvantage during repairs, because the entire iPod Touch 4 module will have to be replaced, and not each one individually. But there is an advantage to this: between protective glass and the display will not accumulate dust.

We continue the disassembly. To remove the metal shielding plate, you need to unscrew the eight mounting screws. They are located around the perimeter of the plate, and by prying it with a plastic spatula, you can dismantle them. By removing the plate, we gain access to system board, battery and all cables. Now the metal plate can be put aside and disassembly can continue.

Next, remove the 3.5-inch headphone jack. To do this, you need to unscrew one single screw and use a plastic spatula to disconnect the cable from the system board, after which it can be removed and replaced if it is faulty.

Disassembly of the fourth generation iPod touch 4 continues. Using a plastic spatula, remove the system board with the battery. You'll have to tinker, because the train Power buttons soldered to the system board and also glued to the case. Carefully peel it off. Next, the screws for the volume and quiet mode button covers become available to us. Unscrew the screws and remove the cover.

Peel off the cable of the iPod touch volume buttons with a special tool. After which, you can safely dismantle the display structure by turning it off with a plastic spatula. After this, you can change the display if the touch glass was broken or the display itself was faulty, for example, there were defective pixels. Next, we remove the special copper screen, which serves to dissipate heat and protect from overheating as battery, and the display.

Then you can remove both cameras from the iPod touch. Use a plastic spatula to separate the camera contacts and disconnect them. Then you can replace them if they are faulty. We continue to disassemble the player: dismantle external antenna with a plastic spatula and change it if necessary. To get to the main components of the iPod touch, you need to remove a special protective plate.

The iPod touch is completely disassembled. Now you can easily replace the faulty part and bring the player into perfect condition. Reassembling is very easy by following the instructions in reverse order.

Our service never neglects any Cupertino device, always trying not only to sort it out into parts, but also to give it a certain rating. Namely, a rating of the complexity and ease of device repair. This rating determines whether the user can disassemble the device independently. And so, presented in September iPod nano 3G became another “guinea pig” in the famous laboratory.

Without a doubt, the inside of this device is much simpler than the iPhone. But, nevertheless, the view from the inside also turned out to be very interesting, because many new details were discovered in it.

The device's battery is built into the motherboard and glued to the display. And they are glued so tightly that it is not possible to separate them immediately, despite the fact that there is a special tab nearby.

Volume buttons, battery and headphone hole are soldered to motherboard tightly. It is impossible to tear them off. And here is the display and Touchpad not glued to each other. This means they are easy to replace individually. This means that repairing them will cost less.

Total: the device received 10 points on the iFixit rating scale.
