Programs for creating mental maps. IMindMap: the official editor for creating mind maps

What is DG - purpose and operating principles

Why is DG needed? Maps and diagrams are the main means of expressing quantitative patterns for a reason - unlike tables with numbers, they give us image phenomena and allow you to literally at one glance assess the overall picture, note the differences and feel the patterns. It is this feature of human perception that explains the widespread use of graphic packages and cartographic systems for illustrative and analytical purposes. DataGraf (DG) is an extremely simple, compact and fast program that allows you to turn a series of numerical data along any spatial divisions into a capacious cartographic image.

Is DG a GIS? Typically, GIS - Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is used to create cartographic illustrations based on number series. ArcView, MapInfo etc.).
However, these are very complex, voluminous and expensive programs, since they are designed to solve special geographical tasks, rather than for the creation of illustrations by a wide range of users. Module Microsoft Map, built in Excel, also does not solve this problem, since it is a variation of one of the well-known GIS, inherits the basic principles of its implementation and is focused on using only ready-made digital maps (if you need a map of your region, it is assumed that you will buy it or order digitization from a company). At the same time, for illustrative and even analytical purposes, a full-fledged digital map is not needed - if you are interested image, general patterns of a phenomenon, or just a picture for a report, then the exact geographic coordinates on which the map is constructed are unlikely to be of interest. It is this niche among cartographic programs that is occupied by DG is not GIS, he creates not geographical maps, A cartograms(according to the classification accepted by geographers) and does not use the concepts of geographic coordinates when constructing them. Therefore, everywhere below, the more familiar word “map” will mean “cartogram”. DG is not a GIS, but a tool for creating cartograms. There are no known programs of this class on the market today.

Who needs DG? The program will be appreciated by those who are engaged in analytical cartography is a very convenient and flexible tool for visualizing data, modeling situations, and constructing synthetic indicators. The program will certainly be useful to those who simply need prepare cartographic illustrationfor coursework, diploma, report, etc.. And finally, exceptional simplicity, compactness and unpretentiousness make DG unsurpassed a tool for learning the basics of computer cartographyin schools, colleges and universities. It is possible that the program will also seem useful to professional geographers for solving certain applied problems (social, economic, etc.).

What can DG do? DataGraf is not just a program, but a completely self-sufficient cartographic system, which includes everything you need to create full-fledged databases and maps literally “ from scratch - and turnkey". The system allows:
create your own vector(arbitrarily scalable) maps - area and point, using any suitable picture as a template
create for each map an unlimited number of thematic databases with numerical information linked to it
enter and edit numerical data manually, from the clipboard, external file
copy, delete, rearrange data, exchange between databases, as well as automatically recalculate indicators between two databases of different structures
export data to other applications via clipboard and files
represent any series of numerical data in the form of a map
the map can be scaled arbitrarily without loss of quality
any card can have an arbitrary color scheme, for which there is a built-in palette editor
Legend and map parameters can be changed arbitrarily, for which there is a built-in style editor
The title and an arbitrary number of other captions can be displayed on the card - in any font and size, with a transparent or solid background
by clicking on the map you can get information at a given point, display the name of the region on the map, as well as the value of the current indicator in any fonts
it is possible to work with two or more maps of the same territory, but with different division principles
the resulting image can be written to disk in any format supported by your operating system
an image of the entire map or its fragment can be recorded on the clipboard for transfer to other programs
in addition to area objects (region), you can also work with point objects (settlement area)
point objects can be represented by geometric shapes or any of your pictograms (with transparent and opaque backgrounds), the methods of their graphical representation can be changed
Point objects have their own independent legend, the parameters of which can also be changed arbitrarily.
for maps of one territory, simultaneous work with area and point objects is possible (both cartographic overlay and recalculation of indicator values)
A unique feature of the system is the built-in formula calculator, which allows you to perform operations with data series using the formula you specify and record the result as a new indicator
The calculator has its own cartographic window, in which you immediately see the calculation result in the form of a map, which allows you to very quickly and conveniently check various relationships and simulate situations.

All this “filling” is located in two files, the total volume of which about 350 KB(!)(note - Kilo- byte!). In other words, on one regular floppy disk(if anyone remembers what this is) feel free to sign up four copies a fully functional system (compare with any other mapping programs). To the best of the author's knowledge, In terms of functionality/size ratio, DG is the most compact mapping system in the world! I will be happy to withdraw this statement if someone writes an even more compact one...

How did this happen? In fact DG was not invented one fine day, but had behind it 20 -year-old history. Beginning with 1990 Over the years, ideas and algorithms were gradually invented and refined, brick by brick, and eventually DataGraf for DOS appeared, which was quite popular in its time. This program is simply an implementation of the same ideas under Windows, and in the minimum required set. The design, by modern standards, is of course a little old, but if you don’t need “checkers”, but “to go”, then you can definitely try it.

For free? Yes, since autumn 2016 in honor 20 year old anniversary Practical Science full version of the program absolutely free. Moreover, if for your tasks just maps of Russia or Moscow are enough, then you don’t even need to create maps, they are included in the system - just download and use:

If you wish to provide feedback, suggestions, or comments on the work DG you can use Forum section "Original programs"
Good luck!

How to create a mind map

It seems that the task is clear as day, but where to start and how to finish without returning to the beginning is unclear. So, in such situations, intelligence cards come to the rescue. They will help you visually plan the entire work process and greatly simplify your work.

Intelligence cards are blocks of various shapes, the content of which is key information that describes an important step or action when working with a project. They help us come up with new ideas, remember important points, plan our work, make decisions and control the entire work process.

The advantage of mind maps on a computer over paper versions is the ability to change it and add different graphics. In addition, information in electronic form is more pleasant to perceive.

Programs for creating mind maps

There are many programs that allow you to create mind maps.

10 Free Map Making Tools

There are paid ones and there are free ones. But the meaning in them is the same, to structure information. The only difference is in the interface. Therefore, I propose to consider only two programs:

1.Microsoft Power Point

2. XMind Manager

Power Point is a slightly different program, but you can also make mind maps in it. I chose it for one simple reason: most teachers are familiar with it and not everyone is able to learn a new program for different tasks.

XMind Manager is a free program, but it can easily be compared with paid analogues. It is this program that I use when developing my mind maps and I advise you to use it.

Creating mind maps

PowerPoint 2010

An intelligence card usually consists of blocks. There are two ways to create it in Power Point. Using autoshapes and smart objects.

The first method requires more painstaking work, so it is inconvenient. The second method has many ready-made templates, so it is best to use it.

Quick Guide

1. Open the Power Point program

2. Go to the menu Insert -Smartart

3. A window will appear asking you to select a mind map template. Choose the option you like. Click OK. After this, test blocks will appear.

Now these blocks can be changed.

To add a new block, right-click on any of the blocks. Then select Add a shape. 4 options for adding shapes will appear:

· Add figure after - the figure will be added to the right of the block (which was clicked with the right mouse button)

· Add figure forward - the figure will be added to the left of the block

· Add figure above - the figure will be added one level higher from the block

· Add a figure below - the figure will be added one level below the block

To change the block shape, also right-click on the shape and select Change figure. Choose any other shape.

I think you will figure out how to add text.

It is worth noting that it is very inconvenient to create mind maps in this program, and the purpose of this program is different. And if you need to create a large intelligence map with numerous objects, then it is better to use the XMind program.

Undoubtedly this program is one of the best. Moreover, it is free to use. You can download the program on this page of the official XMind website.

Everything here is intuitive, clear and simple. There are no fancy actions.

When you start the program, you will have one main block, the Central section. Based on this block, you can create other blocks; to do this, press the key Enter.

To create blocks one level lower, use the key Tab.

You can also insert a note (text) for each block; to do this, click F4.

In the lower right corner there is a properties panel for the selected blocks, in which you can modify any element.

All blocks can be easily dragged and dropped as we please. And for each individual block you can add various markers (pictures).

In principle, all this could not be written here, since when you open XMind, you could easily master the program interface on your own.

That's all here. If you have any questions, write in the comments and I will definitely answer them.

When it comes to explaining something complicated, people often take up a piece of paper and a pen and start drawing and drawing. In this way, you can give your interlocutor a visual representation of the problem, which often becomes the key to understanding it. It’s not for nothing that they say: “It’s better to see once than to hear a hundred times.”

What is a mind map

Any concept, event or process can be divided into components, united by logical and associative connections. Sound confusing? This is true. But consider, for example, such concepts as “site”, “design”, “content” and “code”.

The concept of “site” is broader and includes others. This means that “site” can be identified as the central concept from which connections go to “design”, “content” and “software”. So, perhaps, a thought map (or mind map) of an online project could begin.

Why is this necessary?

This type of diagram helps when people are thinking about complex problems and looking for ideas and solutions. Just remembering all the nuances of a project requires significant mental resources that could be used more efficiently. The advantage of such a map is that if thoughts are written down or sketched on paper, there is no need to keep them in your head, you can immediately see the full picture, without losing details at the same time. The outline of an information-intensive project may ultimately turn out to be quite ramified, but it becomes clear which parts of the plan require improvement and what actions should be taken to achieve this.

MindMeister features

Drawing (and especially editing) high-quality diagrams by hand is not always convenient and takes a lot of time, so it is not surprising that hundreds of thousands of people prefer to do this using special software.

The advantage of the MindMeister service is its multifunctional, user-friendly interface and the ability to safely store data online. The entire history of map changes is saved on MindMeister servers and backed up on several clouds. So there is no need to worry about data loss.

MindMeister also has a mobile application that allows you to edit mind maps and synchronize data from mobile devices. This means you can always have your plans at hand. The service is quite convenient when working with touch devices.

In addition, MindMeister supports offline mode, so the user can edit their maps without access to the Internet. When the Internet becomes available again, the new data is simply synchronized with the account.

To make work easier, MindMeister offers users ready-made templates for specific cards, for example, specifically for cards in the field of business, events, education, etc.

How much does it cost?

You can start using MindMeister with the free (“Basic”) package.

It allows you to create up to three mind maps simultaneously.

Review of 17 shareware programs for creating mind maps

If you want to continue working with the service at a more serious level, you can switch to one of the paid options. At the moment, MindMeister has three main tariffs: “Personal”, “Pro” and “Business”. All paid packages allow you to create an unlimited number of mind maps. The “Personal” package differs in that only one user can edit the map, while “Pro” and “Business” allow several administrators to do this at once. The business package, among other things, provides round-the-clock e-mail support for users.

Thus, the Personal package is best suited for solo workers, the Pro package is suitable for both personal and team projects, and the Business package is intended for teams of more than ten people. For the first 30 days, these packages can be used for free, then, depending on the chosen tariff, the service will cost the user from $4.99 to $14.99 per month per user. It's also worth noting that MeindMeister has special discounts on packages for students and teachers.

What does your mind map look like?

MindMeister is considered one of the most widely used mind mapping services in the online environment. It has hundreds of thousands of users around the world who appreciate its easy to understand, pleasant interface and reliability. This tool for organizing information has many applications both in a business environment and for planning personal time.

XMind program

Creating mind maps in XMind

In the first part of our story about mind maps and programs for compiling them, we listed the main advantages of using specialized programs for compiling mind maps.

Now let's start practicing - create a memory map in the XMind program.

The main purpose of creating this memory card will be to control the writing of the thesis project. Those who have graduated from a university know that writing a diploma project is a voluminous and complex task that cannot be completed in 1-2 days. Therefore, as an example, we will create a mind map using the XMind program, where we will divide the process of writing a thesis into separate small parts.

As the famous saying goes: “The big elephant is eaten in pieces...”.

The program will only help us in controlling the process of writing a thesis, structuring information on the thesis, taking notes on specific chapters, etc.

TOP 10 programs for creating mind-maps

The convenience is that all the information will be presented in the form of one memory card. Everything will be in one place. During the process, the map can be changed, adding or removing what seems important.

First you need to install the XMind program on your computer. There is both a paid version of this program (called XMind Pro) and a free one. Naturally, there are significant differences, but the free version of the program has enough functionality to master the process of compiling mind maps and apply them in practice.

You can download XMind on the official website by following this link.

On the download page there is a free version of the program for Windows and Mac OS X. You can also download a version for Ubuntu and a portable version of the program that is suitable for Windows, Mac OS and Linux.

Xmind is a pretty fast program; it works equally quickly on both powerful computers and laptops and netbooks. Slow operation and failures are not observed. This makes the program compare favorably with the Mind Manager program, which, although it has many functions, also works noticeably slower.

Maps are compiled according to the type of nesting of topics - topics. Subject - " Topic "has its own name and is built higher in the hierarchy. Subsections, or in other words subtopics - “ Subtopic " - are a continuation of the theme. There may be several of them. Each subsection is part of the overall theme. Here, for example, is what preparing the simplest mind map for a graduation project looks like.

As you can see, there is a central theme - “Diploma”. Subsections are associated with the central topic - “Introduction”, “Chapter 1”, “Chapter 2” and so on...

Similarly, for each subsection, you can create your own nested subsections that are related in meaning. In this way, a hierarchical structure can be created. It might look like this.

For convenience of narration, in what follows we will call topic in a word topic(in the manner of the English word Topic), and subsection in a word subtopic(Subtopic).

After starting the XMind program, the workbook opens - “ Workbook 1 " If the workbook does not open when you start the program, you need to click the button on the toolbar.

In the Xmind program, a memory map is created in the workbook - “ Workbook ", which in turn consists of worksheets - " Sheet " In this way, Xmind is similar to Microsoft Excel. The number and numbering of sheets in the workbook is indicated in the lower right corner. You can create many sheets in a workbook, but this feature is relevant for large projects. For a large project, you can create a main map and many nested smaller maps, each of which can easily be placed on a separate sheet.

If desired, you can add a new worksheet to the workbook. To do this, click “ Insert " and select the item " New Sheet " You can also add a new sheet by pressing the combination Ctrl+T.

After we open the workbook, a central topic appears in the center of the work area - “ Central Topic ».

So, change the name of the central topic to “Diploma” by double-clicking on the text “Central Topic”. This is what should happen in the end.

Now let's start designing the central topic. To perform all sorts of manipulations on a topic, such as changing its shape, color, thickness of edging lines, etc., there is a tab “ Properties ».

The “Properties” tab is located in the lower left corner of the program window. Also, if it is not there, then select the topic with a mouse click and press the key combination ALT+Enter. In this case, a drop-down menu should appear, where we select the “Properties” item.

To make any changes to a specific topic, you must first select it - click on it with the mouse pointer. Next, in the “Properties” tab you can set its design. Let's talk about this.

Text settings.

To change the font, its size and color, as well as other parameters, go to the “Properties” tab and find the text settings - “ Text " Using the settings, you can change the font, size, color, position of the text, and also make it bold, italic or strikethrough - there are a lot of possibilities. Settings management is intuitive, similar to MS Word.

Form settings.

In addition, you can select the topic form in the item - “ Shape " For example, we can change the shape of the topic to an ellipse, square or square with rounded corners. There are other types of forms. It is also possible to select the background color of the topic fill. When you click on a small square, a window opens where you can select the desired background fill color.

Selecting the structure of the memory card.

Any mind map must have a certain structure - the order of interconnectedness of objects. This creates a clear hierarchy of objects on the map. It is better to decide on the type of map structure at the initial stage, since later, if the structure changes, the map’s appearance can change greatly. In the Xmind program, the map structure can be selected on the “Properties” tab in the “ Structure ».

Here, in the drop-down menu, various mind map structures are shown. We choose the one that is suitable for a specific task. So, for example, for the simple “Diploma” card already shown here, which you have already seen, the structure was chosen Logic Chart (Left).

Setting up connecting lines.

In point " Line » select the shape of the guide lines that connect the topics. Here you can immediately change the thickness and color of the edging of the selected topic and its connecting line.

Selecting line thickness.

Choosing the color of the edging of the top. The palette window opens when you click on the square (see the picture above).

Floating topic.

Since mind maps are created for a more convenient display of information, topics can be located without being tied to a specific structure. This is possible using so-called floating topics ( Floating topic ). A floating topic is not connected to the Central topic and can occupy its own independent position on the map. Take a look at the picture, everything will become clear to you.

A floating topic can be created by right-clicking on a free field of the Workbook and selecting " Floating topic " or " Floating central topic ”, if the floating topic will be the central topic of a separate project or task.

A floating topic, together with other topics, built according to a certain structure, allows you to make memory maps more flexible - the way the author himself wants them to be.

I would not like to leave aside the familiar tools that are present in almost any program.

Button " Create " When you click on it, the program will create a new workbook - “Workbook”.

Button " Open " Using this button, you can open a workbook previously saved on your hard drive.

The program saves the workbook to a file with the extension .xmind and the name you specify when saving.

When editing a mind map, do not forget to click on this button after making changes to avoid data loss after possible failures. You can also configure the mode to auto-save changes at certain intervals. This is done in the program settings.

Buttons " Repeat " And " Cancel action ". If you want to undo the last action, you can use these buttons.

In addition, the toolbar has such common tools as cut, copy, paste and delete. I think the purpose of these buttons is clear and does not require explanation.

You can create such a funny mind map in the XMind program.

Opinions about mental maps are divided approximately in half.

Some say it’s a great thing, visual and useful. Some say this is nonsense and a waste of time. Another part of the people did not understand at all what it was and why it was needed, apparently it was my fault - I didn’t explain it well.

I made an unacceptable mistake for a copywriter - instead of speaking in the language of benefits for the consumer, I began to describe the qualities of the product without first interesting the audience.

Well, they learn from mistakes, especially since this is not an advertising text at all, despite the fact that there is an affiliate link to the program, as someone probably noticed :) However, this is rather my optimism or even faith in a miracle, considering that 9 out of 10 still download from torrents, and the rest use the free version)

This is really my enthusiastic review of a cool thing that, surprisingly, quickly caught my interest and absorbed part of my time)

So, what are the benefits of using iMindMap?

I won’t write out large lists of advantages, you can read the last article and comments to it, I’ve already written a lot there.

I'll just give an example:

Your schedule for the week, if written down on one sheet of paper in linear text ( I think the sheet should be big), how long will it take to cover and, most importantly, fully understand it at one glance? What would you remember in detail and, after a while, just as easily reproduce it from memory? And most importantly, how much effort will be spent on this?

Now imagine that you have made a mental map of your schedule, and feel the difference, as they say)

This is not my card, I found it on the Internet)

If you still don’t see the difference and benefits, then try to do this trick yourself to feel it for yourself. Only after you try it yourself and say that it’s nonsense, not interesting, no benefit, then I’ll believe you) But until now it’s just “too lazy to bother”)

Here is another example of a mental map in Russian, otherwise not everyone liked the English versions last time.

And the practical use of mind maps in blog articles, and tell me that they don’t work, Svetlana did a very good job) By the way, watch the video too, this is a presentation from the same program.

Why did you choose the iMindMap program for creating mind maps?

One of the main reasons is in developing Tony Buzan himself participated directly, creator and popularizer of mental maps. Agree, this is such a significant plus.

Graphic arts– I was very impressed with it, compared to other programs – beautiful, stylish, simple. And most importantly, flexibility and smoothness - how pleasant it is to drag these branches, and they themselves smoothly adapt to the overall picture))

Intuitive interface– forgive me for the clichés, but that’s the way it is) It’s not difficult to figure out how to work in it; additional options are mastered as needed. This is not Adobe Illustrator for you to study with its thousands of options and settings)

Here is my first trial mental map for one of the articles on the blog, made in this program in about 20 minutes.

Of course, there are no pictures here and it doesn’t follow all the rules, I didn’t try too hard, as you can see =) But I think it conveys the essence of the article.

By the way, there you can use a set of ready-made symbols and icons, you can upload your own images, or you can even draw them manually using the built-in graphics editor, which is generally a pleasure for those who like to draw)

It is also possible to write notes for keys, floating text, insert sound files, make presentations, and many more interesting goodies. The main functionality is available even in the free version; to be honest, it is quite enough for normal use. Full-fledged features will cost $250, well, I already wrote about this ( I personally don't need them yet)

By the way, the paid version of iMindMap supports its own cloud service, with the ability to synchronize mental maps, as well as editing in a flash environment.

Ultimately, what I want to say is that for particularly complex technical posts, it is quite possible to use diagrams created in this program and add them to articles for clarity.

Or maybe I won’t :) But at least for myself, I have already found a use for mental maps.

There are no similar entries.

Anyone who has used mind-mapping technology at least once knows how convenient, multitasking and simple it is. Apparently this is why the compilation of intelligence maps (or mental maps) is beginning to enjoy such popularity. Mind maps are used to record ideas, associations; They help to brainstorm, plan work within the project, create a short business analysis of the situation, and are also used for making notes, recording theses from books and magazines read.

We offer a fresh selection of 8 excellent programs for creating mind maps. We are confident that these programs will help you use mind-mapping technology 100%. In the selection you will find many free applications and you can easily choose the best option for yourself.

And if you haven’t used the mind mapping method in your work until today, it’s time to try it!

Coggle

Coggle is a free online application that supports collaboration on projects. In this program you can develop convenient, beautiful mental maps. The program's interface is simple, but at the same time it has many functions that make the process of creating a mind map incredibly simple. The program supports the use of images, custom color schemes and the ability to view document history. Keeping a history of changes allows you to revert to earlier versions of the map you created if you get stuck in the current version. Mind-maps created in Coggle can be exported in PNG or PDF format.

Xmind

XMind is a popular cross-platform mind mapping program that runs on Windows/Mac/Linux platforms. The program has several versions: free with reduced capabilities and paid with expanded functionality. Tamara Gerasimovich

Let's get acquainted

Mind maps are diagrammatic representations of the key ideas in a book, the main points of a speaker's speech, or your most important action plan. With their help, it is convenient to restore order in information chaos. Mind maps have many names - mental map, mind mapping, thought map, connection diagram, mind map.

The word mind is translated as mind. Psychologists are sure: by drawing maps with felt-tip pens on sheets of paper, you will really become smarter and unlock the potential of your brain. Let's leave these thoughts to scientists and talk about the practical implementation of mind mapping.

What, where and how to draw?

The map vaguely resembles a tree. Or a spider. Or an octopus. In general, something that has a center and branches.

In the center is the main idea or problem. Key points depart from it. Each item is also, if necessary, divided into several smaller items. And so on until the whole problem is clearly worked out.

What's good about the card format?

  1. A schematic text is perceived better than a sheet, because it is shorter and simpler.
  2. Saves time perceiving information.
  3. In the process of drawing up a map, memorization of the material improves.
  4. When working on projects, areas of responsibility are clearly shown by coloring the branches.

How to create maps

Let’s not get fancy and complicate it – let’s use the algorithm of the map author himself, Tony Buzan.

  • Maintain a hierarchy of thoughts;
  • At the center is the most important question. Graphic images (drawings, pictograms) are welcome;
  • Give volume to images, blocks, rays. This makes the map easier to perceive;
  • Leave a distance between the blocks, do not make a palisade of rays;
  • If you need to emphasize the connection between elements, use lines, arrows, and the same colors;
  • Express your thoughts briefly and clearly. Simple font, one keyword above the corresponding line, the main lines are smooth and bolder, place the words horizontally.

Mind map - like the Glavred service, only for the brain. Helps clear debris from thoughts.

Mind maps are useful...

...at work:

  • Plan work projects. Many programs allow shared access among all team members. Changes are made to the map, tasks are prioritized, and the implementation process is monitored;
  • Prepare and conduct meetings. With the help of cards, you will draw up an outline of your speech, highlight key points, and establish the logic of the narrative. The programs have the ability to create a presentation - this will help you visually present materials for the planning meeting;
  • Make a strategy. Cards, in my opinion, are an ideal option. They help to go from the general to the specific;
  • Brainstorm. Some programs even have a special mode.

...in training:

  • Write down the key ideas of the seminar or lecture. Such a note will help you remember the teacher’s train of thought;
  • Organize your information. You always have free space to add an important thought.

...in everyday life:

  • Plan. I use cards to create plans for the week, month, and prepare for important events;
  • Make lists. This could be a list of books, movies, webinars, purchases, gifts, or just a list of things that need to be done at some point;
  • Write notes on the books you read. One main branch - one chapter. Brief thoughts, theses, and main points fit perfectly into the map format. In addition, some programs have the ability to take hidden notes. Hover your mouse over a specific block and a window will open with a detailed description of what is written in the block.

We evaluate

I chose 15 programs (+3 from the editors) for creating mental maps. The selection includes popular drawing services and little-known ones. They differ in design, export capabilities, and ease of management. Some programs are more suitable for personal use, while others help you plan work and study effectively. The description applies only to free versions. Read the review and choose the program that is convenient for you.

For your convenience, I have also prepared a comparative table of the capabilities of all programs presented in the table.

MindMeister

Features of MindMeister:

Rates:

  1. Free basic package. There are only 3 cards in it. They can only be exported as text; you can also receive one card per invited friend;
  2. Personal tariff ($4.99). Unlimited number of maps, multiple page printing, export to drawing, PDF, priority support;
  3. Tariff Pro ($8.25). Everything in the previous plan plus Login to Google Apps for Domains, multi-user licensing, export to .docx and .pptx, custom map themes for the entire team, receiving statistics and reports;
  4. Business tariff ($12.49). Everything that is in the previous tariff plus the creation of groups within the program, the creation of a custom domain for logging into the system, support for exporting and creating backup copies, priority support around the clock.

My impressions

The program is worthy of attention if you have small requests. MindMeister, even in the free version, has quite a wide functionality: different styles and colors of blocks, changing the color of text and its style. A small menu appears on the right and you use the switch buttons to change the design mode. Convenient, compact, simple. Maps are easy to draw: select the block from which the next rays should come and click on the plus sign. If you want to color the blocks and add icons and emoticons, that will work too.

MindMup

Features of MindMup:

  • All the basic capabilities for creating high-quality design are present;
  • Simple controls;
  • Free export to PDF (link available within 24 hours);
  • Maps are synchronized if there is one account on the devices;
  • Import pictures from disk or cloud in 2 clicks.

Rates:

  1. Free package. Users of the free version can create public maps up to 100 KB for a period of 6 months;
  2. Individual Gold ($2.99/month). Unlimited number of cards, up to 5 messages in mail, card capacity up to 100 MB, storage on Google Drive;
  3. Team Gold ($50/year for 10 users, $100/year for 100 users). Unlimited number of maps, work with Google/GAFE;
  4. Corporate Gold ($100/year). Unlimited number of users and maps created by them, work with Google/GAFE.

My impressions

MindMup is ideal for beginners because there are no complicated steps involved. You can insert a picture or edit an inscription with two clicks, create new blocks or delete them with one click. At the same time, the map looks aesthetically pleasing, it is clear and logical. It can be personalized by adding photos. At the time of adding, you can easily change the size of the image, place it under the text or on the side.

Mind42

Features of Mind42:

  • Only basic functionality: adding icons, notes, main and additional nodes;
  • Laconic card design;
  • Export in JPEG, PDF, PNG and several more formats;
  • You can add your map to general Mind42 groups or view other people's maps;
  • Possibility of collaboration on the map;
  • The priority of the block task is set. You can easily view the priority by hovering over the special icon.

My impressions

It seems that the creators of the program have already decided a lot for me. For example, they established their own order in which the branches would be located, and offered only one type of font and blocks. But you can set the priority and progress of tasks. In general, the capabilities of Mind42 are modest, like young girls in ancient Rus'.

XMind

XMind Features:

  • A large number of templates: fishbone, business plans, SWOT analysis and other useful things;
  • Stylish design, bright design - background for the entire map or separately for blocks, large selection of styles, lines, colors and shapes;
  • Conducting a brainstorming session;
  • Convenient creation of presentations.

Rates:

  1. Free. All types of charts and synchronization with the cloud.
  2. XMind: ZEN Desktop ($4.58/month). Fully functional desktop version.
  3. XMind: ZEN Desktop + Mobile ($4.99/month). Desktop + mobile versions.
  4. XMind: ZEN Mobile ($1.24/month). Mobile version.
  5. XMind 8 Pro ($129). The PRO account offers export in PDF, PPT, SVG, OpenOffice, more than 60,000 icons, Gantt charts, presentation and brainstorming modes.

My impressions

XMind is definitely worth using. I was thinking about a paid version, but for now the stripped-down free version is enough for me. The program has a lot of possibilities. Choosing it for simple drawing up of plans or notes is like driving a Ferrari through the village. The program is more suitable for professional team work. I like XMind for its design and ease of drawing.

MindJet Mindmanager

MingManager Features:

  • Templates are divided into categories - meetings and events, management, strategic planning, personal productivity, problem solving, flowcharts;
  • In terms of design options, it resembles Word - it’s just as simple and easy to select text color, flowchart shape, fill, font, alignment, bulleted lists;
  • Prioritizing actions. You can set the order of task completion, set beacons such as “risk”, “discuss”, “postpone”, “expenses”, “for”, “against”;
  • You can brainstorm, build Gantt charts, and link cards together. Easily switch between map tabs;
  • There is a MindManager Plus web account for saving files in the cloud;
  • Transfer data from Microsoft Outlook.

Rates:

Perpetual license. For Mac it costs 13,000 rubles, for Windows 25,000 rubles. Creating interactive maps, setting time frames for completing tasks, exporting maps in different formats.

My impressions

Mindmanager offers a lot of training materials and a technical support service. The card design can be as simple as it is playful if you want. The controls are simple, all the necessary buttons are at hand. If you study this program thoroughly, you can easily use it for home and work. Data from Excel, Outlook can be inserted into the card, and other cards can be attached. Personally, I don’t need so many functions yet.

PersonalBrain

Features of PersonalBrain:

  • From the design, you can only change the theme;
  • Most features are available after purchasing paid work packages;
  • Complex program management;
  • Shows a 3D image of the mind map.

Rates:

  1. Basic paid package ($219). Printing, adding files, links, pictures, notes are available;
  2. Pro packages ($299). Provides integration of calendar and events, spell checking, saving reports, multi-page printing, and exporting maps. The difference between the Pro License, Pro Combo, and TeamBrain packages is the presence of a desktop version and cloud storage.

My impressions

I didn't like it. First, I went through the application installation quest, put checkmarks and dots in the required fields. Then I opened the map and was disappointed in the controls. If you click in the wrong place, the central block changes and you are disorganized. Well, the design is gloomy. In general, I didn’t make friends with her.

iMind Map

Features of iMindMap:

  • The program offers 4 modes: recording ideas and thoughts, brainstorming, creating mind maps, converting data into 2D and 3D presentations, PDF files, tables and other formats;
  • About 130 styles;
  • There are hints at the beginning: click on the icon, use Tab and Enter;
  • There is a spell check;
  • Very bright animated presentations;
  • You can make notes for each branch, use icons from the series finance, transport, arrows, calendar, communications, flags, numbers, people, etc., change flowchart formats, set deadlines and priorities, add audio files;
  • Time Map;
  • Import files in IMX, Doc, Docx, IMM, MM, MMAP formats;
  • Export files in PDF, SVG, 3D image, table, web page, project, audio, DropTask, Power Point presentation, zip file.

Rates:

  1. For home and study (80€). Create and edit maps, add images, create art projects, add links and notes, 30 days of use, one license;
  2. Maximum (190€). Adds to the capabilities of the previous package brainstorming, creating presentations, exporting videos from YouTube, integration with DropTask, three-dimensional image, conversion to different formats, a license for a year and 2 computers;
  3. Maximum Plus (250€). Adds to the capabilities of the previous package books and discs by Tony Buzan, the founder of mental maps.

My impressions

One of the best programs I've used. I would put XMind and MindMup next to it. Very easy to operate. Easily switch between capture, brainstorm, mind map and time map modes, draw blocks and relationships between them. If you want to recreate the atmosphere of drawing with markers on whatman paper, then in iMind Map you can draw branches by hand.

Bubble

Bubble Features:

  • The controls are not very convenient, you need to get used to it;
  • Only the general color scheme changes; you cannot change the font, text color or node shape separately;
  • 3 cards are created for free;
  • The map is saved in JPEG, PNG, HTML formats.

Rates:

  1. Premium ($4.91 per month). Create an unlimited number of maps, track the history of changes, add files and images;
  2. Corporate rate. It has multiple licenses available, user account management, user branding creation. The cost of the corporate plan depends on the number of accounts and subscription period.

My impressions

Nothing special. The controls seemed a little complicated to me, the design seemed ordinary. Who needs a business style card - welcome!

Comapping

Comapping Features:

  • There is only one type of card;
  • Small design options;
  • Maps can be sent by e-mail, saved in SVG, PDF, Xmind, Freemind, MindManager formats;
  • The service is used for brainstorming, event planning, and training.

Rates:

Paid versions are based on the number of licenses and the version: online or desktop. One online license costs $25 per year, desktop costs $49, and the maximum package of 100 licenses costs $612 and $1,225 is the discounted price.

My impressions

Nice program, but I don't like this map structure. I like it when the main idea is in the center. The design didn’t work for me either. Why is she nice then? Its simplicity, unobtrusive design. I liked how the marks on the map, for example, “competitor analysis,” are highlighted in gray. They do not distract attention, but provide benefits.

MindGenius

Features of MindGenius:

  • Well suited for team work, educational process. Emphasis is placed on working with enterprises;
  • The design possibilities are optimal - the size, color, font type, background fill color, and block shapes can be changed;
  • Add pictures, links, notes - this function is also available;
  • There are mobile applications for iOS and Android;
  • Export maps in MS Office applications, JPEG, PNG, PDF, HTML

  2. MindGenius2019 lifetime ($256). Includes perpetual software license and one-year online subscription. After a year, the latter can be renewed for $42.
  3. MindGeniusOnline ($16/month or $160/year). Subscribe to the online version.

My impressions

Nice design, clear controls, great capabilities - a good program, in general. If I manage a company, I will take MindGenius into account.

Mapul

Features of Mapul:

  • Unusual design. Bright rich colors of lines and blocks;
  • Maps are saved in JPEG, SVG formats;
  • Small selection of colors and fonts;
  • Not very convenient controls. The lines are difficult to change after drawing, the text jumps along them and is difficult to read.

Rates:

  1. Free version. One card and 4 images;
  2. Premium package. The number of cards is unlimited. Premium can be purchased for 3, 6 or 12 months. Accordingly, $25, $35, $49.

My impressions

The design simply captivated me: bright, juicy, unusual. But the drawing process let us down. I want to align the line - instead the program draws me an additional branch. In general, if you get used to it, Mapul can become your favorite.

Mindomo

Features of Mindomo:

  • Three accounts: teacher, businessman, student;
  • 24 card templates available;
  • Possibility of collaboration on the map by several users. When the card is changed, notifications are sent by email;
  • There is a backup option;
  • Audio and video recordings, images, hyperlinks, icons, symbols are added;
  • The priority of tasks is set, comments are added to blocks.

Rates:

Purchased for six months. All plans include an unlimited number of mind cards, backup to DropBox and Google. Disk, adding audio and video, password protection of cards, desktop version, synchronization between devices, 7 import formats.

  1. Premium ($36). It has 8 export formats, 1 GB of memory, 1 user;
  2. Professional ($90). It has 12 export formats, 5 GB of memory, 1 user;
  3. Team ($142). It has 12 export formats, 15 GB of memory, 5 users.

My impressions

After working at Mindomo, there is some kind of pleasant aftertaste. Drawing is easy - just click on the button next to the block. Pictures are inserted easily and immediately in the optimal size. I liked that you can make notes for each block in the form of simple text or lists - very convenient.

Coggle

Features of Coggle:

  • Tooltips in English;
  • A kind of management. New branches, for example, appear with a double click, a color scheme appears with a right-click;
  • There is only one map in the free version;
  • Export in PNG, PDF formats;
  • Working together on a map. There is chat and comments;
  • History of changes. The slider moves along the scale, returning the map to the desired editing segment;
  • More than 1600 icons;
  • A gallery of other people's maps is available;
  • Synchronization with Google Drive, account required.

Rates:

  1. Amazing. $5 per month or $50 per year. Unlimited number of cards, presentation mode, shared folders, high-resolution image uploading, wide choice of color schemes;
  2. Organization (corporate). $8 per month. Added a separate workspace, consolidated billing, user and deadline management, and corporate identity.

My impressions

I didn't like the design at all. It’s not very difficult to understand the controls, the tips are nearby. Lines and blocks are easy to create and change direction. The slider for undoing changes to the map is a real lifesaver.

ConceptDraw MINDMAP

Features of ConceptDraw MINDMAP:

  • There are ready-made themes. The design capabilities are standard: the size of the letters changes, the background of the text and the map itself is filled;
  • The map is converted into a text list and vice versa;
  • Hyperlinks, notes, icons, tags are added;
  • Extensive presentation creation options;
  • Maps are imported from Xmaind, FreeMaind, MindManager, Word, Power Point programs;
  • Export to PDF, web pages, MindManager, Word, Power Point formats. You can export a checklist file with completed and uncompleted tasks;
  • You can demonstrate presentations on Skype, post on Twitter, send by email and save in Evernote;
  • In addition to maps, you can draw diagrams and various flowcharts, manage projects;
  • By default, the map is saved on your computer in the “My Documents” folder.

Rates:

This program has complicated pricing. It depends on the number of users plus additional functions are taken into account. For $199 you will purchase the simplest version for 1 license, an update to the program costs $99, a package for corporate use costs $299, and 10 licenses for educational purposes cost $638.

My impressions

There are many useful functions in the program. In addition to the service for creating mind maps, there is also a line of programs for creating business graphics and project management. In general, this is a huge set of tools specifically for business.

LOOPY

Features of LOOPY:

The service allows you to create “live” diagrams in which elements move between blocks. This allows us to illustrate some cyclical processes.

Rates:

The service is free, no registration required.

My impressions

Very few possibilities for card design. The main thing is that the maps turn out to be “live”; with their help it is convenient to depict dynamic processes. The resulting diagram can be inserted onto the website as an interactive element.

Draw.io

Features of Draw.io

  • No registration required. When you first log in, choose where to save the files. If to the cloud, then authorization is required through the appropriate service.
  • The files are not saved in Draw.io, but in your storage - Google Drive, OneDrive, or your computer's hard drive.
  • Multifunctional tool. In addition to mind maps, you can make flowcharts, simple infographics, visualize business processes, and even design page layouts.
  • There are online and desktop versions, as well as integrations with many tools, including Jira and Trello.

Rates

The tool is free without any restrictions. Except when you need to deploy the product on your server.

My impressions

There are too many functions and capabilities for a quick sketch of thoughts and plans. Because of this, the service is more complex than those designed specifically for mind maps. It may take longer to create. But this is an excellent option when you need to make a diagram for a presentation and other similar tasks - complete freedom of action will allow you to draw it exactly as you need it and design it in the corporate style and colors.

WiseMapping

The tool is free without any restrictions. If you install the program on your server and some functions are missing, you can contact the developers.

My impressions

The first impression is confirmed - the tool is very simple and without frills. Features include adding emoji, links and notes. You can also change the block style, background and border colors, text style and color. In my opinion, the tool is well suited for personal use and quick sketches.

SimpleMind

Features of SimpleMind

  • Works on different platforms: Mac, Windows, iOS, Android.
  • The page size and number of elements are practically unlimited.
  • The free version has quite a few restrictions - no export, you cannot add media files, links and emoji, and the ability to edit the appearance of cards is limited.
  • There is no online version, you need to download it to your computer.

  2. Full version (from €24.99) All the functionality of the program without restrictions.
