What is Boom
Boom has very low ratings on Google Play and the App Store. Average - 2.1 points. However, the complaints are no longer about the functionality and operation of the application, but about the very fact that you now have to pay for music. People are still not ready for this.

Cost and competitors
A monthly subscription to Boom costs 149 rubles. Competitors' prices are approximately the same: 159 rubles on Google Play Music, 169 rubles on Apple Music and 169 rubles on Deezer. The first month is free. If you don't like it, don't forget to cancel your subscription, otherwise the money will be debited automatically.
In my opinion, the competitors are better. Their interfaces are more logical, it is more convenient to listen to music in albums and discographies. The recommendations there are more advanced and interesting: you can always find something new for yourself. The Boom app also has them, but is much less varied.
Why Boom?
Boom has only one advantage, but for many it will be decisive: you don’t have to rebuild your music library. If you previously listened to music only on the social network VKontakte, then all the songs will already be in the application, you just need to log in with your account. The service offers approximately the same functionality for the same money as competitors, but there will be less fuss with it.
Mail.Ru Group partner, United Media Agency, has released the Boom application on Android and iOS. Previously, it was called “VKontakte Music” and worked in trial mode.
Boom works in close connection with the user's account on the VKontakte social network and picks up all the music from there: the one you added to yourself, what is posted on your wall, what is found in the news feed, from friends and in the communities to which you are subscribed. The most important difference from the old version of the application is that Boom now has paid subscriptions that expand the capabilities of this service.
The main screen of the application is the VKontakte news feed, into which publications containing audio tracks are filtered. If you subscribe to music publics, then such a feed can be very interesting. It also has a built-in horizontally scrollable block with new releases.
There is no full-fledged catalog or search for release versions of albums, singles and collections in the application; the content is scattered in different places. The user can catalog it independently in the same way as on a social network - adding each track individually to his collection. In this respect, Boom is inferior to other music services that are filled by professionals. However, some albums are still presented in their entirety, but finding them is not so easy: to do this you need to launch the track, expand it to full screen (by clicking on its name), open the menu and select “Go to album”.
Another “non-obvious” function is displaying song lyrics. To see the lyrics, you need to again expand the track to full screen, and then click on its cover or on the microphone icon. The application also allows you to search for records similar to the selected track - to do this, click on the magic wand icon at the bottom right. In addition, you can search for all tracks of the selected artist, but they will again be presented randomly, without any sorting by album.
There is no support for playlists, an equalizer, or curated music selections in this application - three more big drawbacks of Boom. But there is a search, a list of popular search queries, as well as the ability to see the music that your friends or publics you subscribe to have added to their list.
The application has four tariff plans: free, simple, practical and unlimited. The free plan is valid for 90 days and allows you to save up to one hour of music for listening without an Internet connection. A simple tariff (59 rubles per month) allows you to store two hours of music, a practical one (99 rubles) - three hours, and in an unlimited tariff (149 rubles) the duration of offline sound is limited only by the storage capacity on the device.
The VKontakte Music application was released in April 2016, and it had only one tariff - free for 90 days. Users noticed that this tariff could be activated several times in a row. United Media Agency works in partnership with Mail.ru Group (owner of the social networks VKontakte, Odnoklassniki and Moi Mir). It is clearing copyrights and has entered into agreements with Sony Music, Warner Music, Soyuz and Nikitin studios, as well as First Music Publishing House and indie music distributor Orchard.
In our opinion, the Boom application turned out to be chaotic, but we can hardly blame the developers for this. It is very difficult to create a full-fledged service based on a music dump from VKontakte. There is a lot of work ahead - the collection should be replenished not with amateur rips of dubious quality, but with official label releases. Nowadays, I would only use Boom to check out new products and purchase them elsewhere.
One of the most popular social networks, VKontakte, launched a project in the 4th quarter of 2017 that limits the listening of music. This ban can be easily removed by paying a fee for using the application as a player. You can pay for music on VK after linking a bank card to your account or using another payment method.
