iPhone was created a long time ago, but still not there simple way to create your own ringtone. If you don't want to buy ringtones or use the ones that come with your device, you can create your own with using iTunes.
This process has changed slightly with the release of iTunes 12.7. The Sounds library that you could previously sync with your iPhone has been removed, but you can still manually transfer ringtone files to your phone. Any ringtones you saved in iTunes are now in the C:\Users\ folder
Step One: Install iTunes
iTunes is rarely needed to work with a modern iPhone, but to add your own melodies it is still required.
On a Windows PC, you will need to install the latest version of iTunes from Apple's website. On Mac iTunes already installed and ready to go. This process will work on both Mac and Windows.
Step Two: Select an Audio File
Of course you will need sound file, which you want to convert and use as a ringtone. Your call file should be no more than 40 seconds. iTunes will refuse to copy ringtones longer than 40 seconds to your phone.
If the file is long and you just want to use part of it, you can trim it down to the part you want using an audio editor. You can use any audio editor you like, this could be the free Audacity, but it is more complex than necessary for simple things like this, so you can use an online service like mp3cut.net. To use this site, click the "Open File" button and select the audio file you want to edit. It can also extract audio from video files if you download them. The only thing is that the service requires Flash Player.
Select the part of the audio file you want to use and click the Cut button. Download the edited clip to your computer. This is the file you will need to import into iTunes.
Step Three: Convert MP3 to AAC
Most likely, your audio file was in MP3 format. You will need to convert it to AAC format to use it as a ringtone. (If your audio file is already in AAC format or has a .m4r extension, you can skip this part.)
First, add the audio file to iTunes and find it in your library. This can be done by dragging the file directly into your iTunes library. Look in the “Media Library” - “Songs” section.
Select the audio file in iTunes and click "File" - "Convert" - "Create AAC Version". Also, the menu item may be called “Convert”, “Create a new version”, “Create a version in AAC format” (depending on the system and the selected menu).
Step Four: Rename Your AAC File
There will be two copies of the same file in your iTunes library: the original MP3 version and a new version in AAC.
To understand which is which, click right click mouse over the header in the library and turn on the "Type" column.
You will see new column"Type" which indicates what kind of file it is. "MPEG Audio File" is the original MP3, and "AAC Audio File" is your new file A.A.C. You can right-click on the MPEG version of the audio file (that's MP3) and remove it from your library if you want.
You now have a ringtone file in AAC format. However, you need to change the extension of your file in order for iTunes to recognize it as a ringtone file.
First, drag the AAC file from your iTunes library to your desktop or any other folder on your system.
You will receive a file with the extension .m4 a. Change the file extension to .m4 r. For example, if the file is called Song.m4a, change it to Song.m4r.
Step Five: Add a Ringtone File to Your Phone
Finally, connect your iPhone to your PC or Mac using a cable. Unlock your phone and tap Trust on your screen to confirm that you want to trust your computer if you haven't previously connected your phone to iTunes on that PC or Mac. You will be prompted to enter your PIN.
In iTunes, click the device icon that appears in the navigation bar. Click Sounds under On My Device in the left sidebar. Drag the ringtone.m4r file from your folder to the Sounds section of iTunes. iTunes will sync the ringtone on your phone and it will immediately appear in this section.
Step Six: Select a Ringtone
Now you can take your iPhone and go to Settings - Sounds - Ringtone and select your own ringtone. Any custom ringtones you've added will appear at the top of the list.
To remove a ringtone, connect your phone to iTunes and return to the Sounds section. Right click on the required file and select "Remove from Library" to remove it from your device.

But sometimes exceptions still have to be made: firstly, someone will ask about creating ringtones (it’s much more convenient to give a link to your article than to send a person to “Google”), and secondly, there are never too many instructions - maybe it will be useful to someone.
But the most main reason the appearance of this article in another - I recently came across a cool song, I wanted to set it as a ringtone, but iTunes Store All the ringtones of this composition are as stupid as possible. What to do? That's right - create a ringtone yourself. And since such a drinking spree has begun, why not write about it?

If your music file fits within this framework, then steps 2 and 3 can be safely skipped. If not, then follow all the steps strictly in order.
Step 1 (decide on the iTunes version)

Step 2 (let's get started!)
Since my song is longer than 40 seconds, it needs to be trimmed first. To do this, you can use any program, or the same iTunes.
We launch iTunes (we don’t connect the iPhone yet), open the “Songs” tab and simply drag and drop our “blank” ringtone there.
Step 3 (cut the song)
Right-click on this song and select “Information”.
A window opens in which we need to go to the “Options” tab.
Do you see the two lines “Beginning” and “End”? This is exactly what we need. You need to select the fragment of the song that you want to play on the call. Let me remind you that the duration is no more than 40 seconds.
In my case, I leave the very beginning of the track - from 0 to 40 seconds. That's a really good guitar there :)
Click "OK".
We return to “Music” and see that nothing has changed. In fact, this is not so - if you try to play this track, its duration will be exactly 40 seconds.
Step 4 (convert ringtone)
Now we select our future ringtone and top menu In iTunes, click “File - Convert - Create AAC Version”.
Oops! Another track with the duration we need has appeared in the list of songs!
By the way, you can now return the original file to its previous length or delete it if you no longer need it.
Step 5 (change the file extension)
We're almost there! We take the resulting 40-second excerpt and simply drag and drop it onto the desktop.
Now we need to change the parameters of this file from .m4a on .m4r. But there is a small catch!Standard Windows setup hides file extensions by default. What should I do?
That's it, now we see that the ringtone file at the end of its name has the extension .m4a
Right-click on it, select “Rename” and change one letter. Instead of .m4a should be .m4r

Step 6 (transfer ringtone to iPhone)

Connect the iPhone to the computer and:
- In the top menu of iTunes, select the “Sounds” section.
- We drag our file (already with permission .m4r) in this window.
- Click on the phone icon.

Select this item - click synchronize - selected sounds - mark the ringtone we need. With a feeling of accomplishment, click “Apply”!

Instructions for iTunes version 12.7 and older
In new versions of iTunes, everything is much simpler - you just need to drag the made ringtone into left side iTunes (section “On My Device”) and it will immediately appear on the iPhone.
Step 7 (install ringtone on iPhone)
On the phone, open “Settings - Sounds, tactile signals - Ringtone” and at the very top we find the melody we need.
