HP Pavilion x360 laptop: specifications and reviews. HP Pavilion x360 laptop: specifications and reviews Windows Ink-enabled pen included

The laptop world has been stagnant for a long time. The dominance of tablets and advanced smartphones has not passed without a trace. Now laptops are devices for creating coursework, essays and theses. Therefore, manufacturers were faced with new task- “cross” a tablet and a laptop. Such a device could well create a sensation. A striking representative of gadgets of this class is the HP Pavilion x360 convertible laptop. We'll talk about its characteristics a little later, but for now we'll tell you a little about the manufacturer.

A little about the company

The American company Hewlett-Packard (HP) is well known to our compatriots. This fame is primarily due to the production of laptops. But you can find both monoblocks and stationary personal computers on sale. The manufacturer also produces computer parts, which are of high quality and reasonable price. And yet the main industry for the company is laptops. And here the brightest representative is the HP Pavilion x360.

In fact, the release of transformers is a new thing for the company. And it cannot be said that the Americans have lost face in the dirt here. The first pancake didn't come out lumpy. And this is good. The laptop turned out to be not very powerful, but very effective and versatile. That's what we were counting on. HP Pavilion x360 has an interesting and attractive appearance and some other options. The latest one is installed on board operating system from Microsoft - Windows 10. This adds even more useful features to the laptop.

Contents of delivery

The laptop comes in a box made from recycled cardboard. The gadget itself is artistically depicted on the front side. And on the back they are painted in detail specifications devices. Inside there is the transformable laptop itself, a charger, an instruction manual, a warranty card and a special gasket that is located between the keyboard and the screen. The touch screen is covered with a protective film.

Of particular interest is the instruction manual. It describes in detail how to properly operate the device. It is also good that this instruction is written in adequate and understandable Russian. Usually foreign papers have a very crooked translation. But not in this case. Everything here is at the highest level.

Appearance and Design

The appearance of the laptop is unusual primarily because of the colors. In addition to the classic matte black, the HP Pavilion x360 can also be made in mint color. It looks unusual and elegant. However, for some, such colors can only cause irritation. The laptop itself is small. It is equipped with an 11-inch diagonal screen. Although, if you remove the giant frames around the screen, then it would be possible to fit a 15-inch display here.

The cover is attached to the body using reliable curtains that fix the screen in any position. This way you can turn your laptop into a tablet. Usually the curtains are weakness transformers. But here everything is done to surprisingly high quality. There are no ventilation grilles on the case, since the HP Pavilion x360 laptop does not have coolers. This suggests that powerful filling This device does not and cannot have it.

Specifications

On board the HP Pavilion x360 11 there is an Intel Pentium N3700 processor, which, although it is quad-core, is noticeably inferior in performance to some dual-core models. The video adapter is Intel HD Graphics, which, as you know, does not have its own video memory and actively borrows it from the RAM. But the last thing in this laptop is quite enough - whole 4 gigabytes. But the RAM works exclusively in single-threaded mode, which is not good.

The sound system of the device deserves a separate description. Instead of the usual for "Pavilions" Beats Audio This device contains equipment from Bang & Olufsen. Thanks to this, the HP Pavilion x360 Convertible sounds much better than its predecessors. It can easily outshine a standard 15-inch laptop. A standard mechanical hard drive with a capacity of 1 terabyte is used as a disk drive. This is quite enough for any task. And if someone needs a performance boost, then installing an SSD instead is not difficult.

Transformer capabilities

How can I use my HP Pavilion x360 13 laptop? There are many answers to this question. In fact, it is multifunctional electronic device with touch screen. But this device can only be used for work and internet surfing. You can only play ancient games from 2005 on this device. And then only after turning all the graphics settings to minimum. However, for working with documents or images, this device is indispensable. An important advantage is the mobility of the device. This helps you work from anywhere.

The HP Pavilion x360 15 touchscreen adds even more interesting options. So, for example, you can use the gadget as graphics tablet. You can also use all the delights of a touch screen in tandem with the universal capabilities of a laptop: keyboard and touchpad. Don't forget about the many USB ports (unlike MacBooks). This is a universal device with additional functionality of a mobile gadget.

Who is a convertible laptop suitable for?

This gadget is designed for those who like the functionality of a smartphone, but lack the power and versatility of mobile devices. For example, the device has on board a universal operating system from Microsoft, which makes it full-fledged computer. And the touch screen makes the gadget look like a tablet. This device is designed for those who value versatility and multifunctionality. Some experts even believe that the future lies with such transformers. But for now, classic laptops and personal computers are not going to give up their positions. Owners of classic laptops believe that this idea has no future. But they are wrong. Transformers are already becoming a new trend. Of course, they will never become popular among gamers or outright geeks. But there are only a few of them in society. And most will take this bait. After all, they don’t need anything else except the Internet and films.

Gadgets such as this transformer are in great demand nowadays, as they embody all the beauty of technological progress. Even older people can appreciate these devices. Because they can be controlled by the most different ways. But this is not the main thing. The main thing is versatility. This is exactly what smartphone and tablet users are missing. And owners of classic laptops would be happy with the new features. However, new transforming gadgets are not particularly popular. Bye. However, according to experts, everything will change soon. Such devices will become a new trend. The wait isn't long now. And then those who managed to purchase gadgets at reasonable prices will be in chocolate. Because their cost will increase several times. However, this kind of paradise is still far away. So let’s look at the reviews from the owners of the transformer for now.

Positive feedback from owners

HP Pavilion x360 13 laptop - relatively new device, but there are already those who have purchased it for themselves. Therefore, there are reviews about this device. There are approximately the same number of positive and negative ones. However, please note that this device is intended for work purposes only. Owners of the transformer note good performance for what's inside. Also, many people like the unusual appearance of the gadget. But the quality touch screen. Almost all owners note that the sensor works quickly and clearly, and the colors are bright and saturated.

Negative reviews from owners

This is where things get a little more complicated. Only those who thought that it could handle at least some games criticize this laptop. But these comrades suffered severe disappointment. And so they began to criticize the transformer in every possible way. The main argument is this: for that kind of money, a laptop should be able to do everything. Dear comrades, he already knows how to do everything. And gaming laptops are much more expensive. However, you can also find constructive criticism. For example, some are outraged by the not very comfortable keyboard and touchpad. And they are partly right. Also, many are unhappy with the lack of an SSD in the kit. But this annoying misunderstanding is very easy to correct.

Conclusion

The HP Pavilion x360 convertible laptop belongs to the class of universal devices with advanced functionality. It combines the functions of a laptop and a tablet, which can appeal to many. The device is also perfect for work and light entertainment (movies, music). But game lovers will have to choose something more powerful. The transformer is not designed for such things. But if you are looking for a versatile, lightweight, and multi-functional laptop for work, then the Pavilion is just what you need.

If you look at it, the series of 13-inch convertible laptops HP Pavilion 13-a000 x360 today has five models, four of which are based on processors Intel Core fourth generation (Haswell), and one is on an AMD A8-6410 (Beema) processor (APU). It is this model with the AMD A8-6410 APU that we will consider in this article.

Let’s immediately make a reservation that we tested a demo sample of this transformable laptop, which did not have proper packaging and configuration, and therefore we will not consider the issues of configuration and packaging.

That is, the only thing we can say is that the kit, in addition to the transformable laptop itself, also includes a 45 W power adapter (19.5 V; 2.31 A).

The basis of the hybrid convertible laptop HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360r is the quad-core AMD A8-6410 (Beema) APU. This new APU runs at 2 GHz (up to 2.4 GHz in Turbo Core mode), features 2 MB L2 cache and graphics core Radeon R5. The AMD A8-6410 supports DDR3L-1600 MHz memory, and its power consumption is up to 15 W.

The HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360r convertible laptop is equipped with 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 RAM, and one 8 GB memory module is installed in it. In our case it was a Micron 16KTF1G64HZ module. Accordingly, the memory operates in single-channel mode. It is difficult to say whether we are talking about memory soldered on the board or a discrete module. The fact is that this laptop is very difficult to disassemble. But even if you remove the work surface with the keyboard (in in this case disassembly is carried out in this way), then the memory on the board is not visible, that is, it (soldered or in the form of a separate module) is located with reverse side board that is inaccessible during partial disassembly. And even if the memory in this case is installed in a slot, replacing it yourself is very problematic.

The storage subsystem of this laptop includes a 2.5-inch thin HDD with a capacity of 1 TB (WDC WD10SPCX-60HWST0). Please note that a drive of this capacity is not included in the basic package. In general, the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360r convertible laptop should be equipped with a 500 GB drive, and a more capacious drive is a feature of our demo sample. well and optical drive in this case it is not provided at all.

Communication capabilities HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360r are equipped with a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 802.11b/g/n wireless network adapter. This adapter wireless communication also has a built-in bluetooth module 4.0. In addition, the laptop has a gigabit network interface based on a Realtek controller.

The audio subsystem of the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360r is based on the Realtek ALC282 HDA codec; two built-in speakers are used as acoustics. But the laptop has only one audio jack, but it’s a combined one, that is, it can be used to connect headphones and a microphone.

The battery in this laptop is non-removable and has a capacity of 43.5 Wh.

It remains to add that the laptop is equipped with a webcam with a built-in microphone, which is located above the laptop screen.

Appearance and ergonomics of the case

All five models of 13-inch convertible laptops of the HP Pavilion 13-a000 x360 series are made in the same case and, apparently, have the same screen.

The main feature of these models is that they can be used in both classic laptop mode and tablet mode. In order to switch to tablet mode, you simply need to open the laptop screen to an angle of 360°. That is, there will be a screen on one side of the tablet, and a keyboard on the opposite side. Moreover, the classic laptop mode and tablet mode are not the only ones possible modes use of hybrid devices of the HP Pavilion 13-a000 x360 series. By varying the opening angle of the screen, you can switch the device to “hut” mode, which is convenient, for example, for watching videos.

Using the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 in tablet mode is not very convenient: for a tablet this device is thick, heavy and bulky, although formally the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 has all the functions of a tablet. Thus, there is auto-rotate screen, Windows button, and also, of course, touch input, but you can’t hold the tablet in your hands for long. As a result, it is convenient to use either a laptop or a “hut” when the device is on the table. So the ability to transform the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 into tablet mode is just additional function, and the tablet mode is not the main one for this device.

When closed, the entire body of the laptop is silver. HP calls this coloring ash gray with the addition of silver, but, to put it less sophisticatedly, it is a regular silver “metallic” color. Visually, it even gives the impression that the laptop case is metal, but in fact it is plastic. Please note that fingerprints are not visible on the case.

In the center of the laptop lid is the traditional mirrored HP logo.

The keyboard in this laptop is black, and the working surface is made of brushed metal and has a dark brown (chocolate) color. More precisely, the plastic base of the working surface is covered by a thin sheet of polished metal.

There are no buttons or status indicators on the working surface, which is typical for a convertible laptop.

The system for attaching the laptop screen to the body consists of two hinges located at the bottom of the screen. As already noted, this mounting system allows you to tilt the screen relative to the keyboard plane at an angle of 360 degrees.

The hinges are quite tight, which allows you to fix the screen in any position.

On the left side of the case there is a USB 2.0 port, a power button, a combined mini-jack audio jack (headphones, microphone), a volume control (rocker-type key) and a ventilation grille for the radiator of the cooling system.

On the right side of the body there are two USB port 3.0, RJ-45 network connector, HDMI connector for connecting an external monitor or projector, memory card slot, power adapter connector and a Kensington lock connector. In addition, a miniature hard drive activity indicator is located here.

Note that all three USB ports are the same color (black), but USB ports 3.0 are displayed only on the right side of the case.

Input Devices

Keyboard

The HP Pavilion 13-a000 x360 series laptops use an island-type keyboard with increased distance between the keys.

The main keys on the keyboard have a size of 15x15 mm. The keys themselves are black, and the letters on them are white and clearly visible. The keyboard is slightly recessed relative to the surface framing it, and the surface under the keyboard is one with the working surface, and there are simply holes made in it for each key. The base under the keyboard is quite rigid, and if the keyboard flexes when you press the keys, it is very slight and only when you press it deliberately hard. In terms of quality, we would rate such a keyboard a C or, at a stretch, a B minus. One of the advantages is the fact that it is quite quiet, and the keys do not make a clicking sound when typing. The downside of the keyboard is that the keys are poorly spring-loaded, and you can hardly feel the pressing of a key.

The key layout on this keyboard is not exactly non-standard, but is rarely found in laptops: it uses an L-shaped Enter key and short left Shift key. If you are used to a different type of layout, then this keyboard will take a long time to get used to. The top row of keys traditionally has two functions: either the traditional F1-F12, or laptop control functions. By default, the traditional F1-F12 keys work in combination with the Fn function key, and the laptop control keys work directly. However, this operating mode can be switched in the BIOS.

Touchpad

The HP Pavilion 13-a000 x360 series laptops use a clickpad with simulated key presses. The dimensions of the working area of this clickpad are 95x65 mm, which, in principle, is sufficient, although it could be larger.

The touch surface is slightly recessed and is almost identical in color to the surrounding surface. The sensitivity of the touchpad is not satisfactory. This clickpad supports the MultiTouch function and naturally supports multi-touch gestures for Windows management 8. In general, the clickpad is convenient and deserves high praise.

Sound path

As already noted, the audio subsystem of the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 convertible laptop is based on the Realtek ALC282 HDA codec, and the laptop itself has two built-in speakers, which are located in the front of the case, on the bottom surface.

According to subjective feelings, the acoustics in this laptop are very mediocre. The maximum volume level leaves much to be desired, and when playing music tracks, the sound is desaturated and with a clear predominance of metallic tones. In a word, the acoustics in this laptop are not very suitable for playing music.

To evaluate the output sound path, intended for connecting headphones or external acoustics, we resorted to instrumental testing using an external sound card Creative E-MU 0204 USB and RightMark Audio Analyzer 6.3.0 utilities. Testing was carried out in stereo mode, 24-bit/44.1 kHz. According to the test results, the audio path in the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 laptop received a “Good” rating. The full report with testing results in the RMAA 6.3.0 program is posted on a separate page, followed by a short report.

Screen

The HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 laptop uses a touchscreen LCD matrix with LED backlighting based on white LEDs. This matrix has glossy finish, and its diagonal size, as already noted, is 13.3 inches. The screen resolution is 1366×768 pixels. Unfortunately, diagnostic utilities do not determine the model of the LCD matrix, but we can definitely say that we are talking about an inexpensive TN matrix.

The screen brightness is controlled by pulse width modulation (PWM) of the LED backlight at a frequency of 200 Hz. However, in this case this is not a problem, since at the maximum brightness level, of course, there is no flickering, and hardly anyone will use this laptop at a brightness level below the maximum. The fact is that, according to measurements, the maximum brightness level in this laptop is very low - only 150 cd/m². Well, the minimum screen brightness level on a white background is 11 cd/m². The gamma level is very high - 2.95.

The color gamut of the LCD screen in the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 laptop covers 59.1% of sRGB and 40.7% of Adobe RGB. Likewise, the color gamut is 59.1% of sRGB and 40.7% of Adobe RGB. In principle, this is a very mediocre and even unsatisfactory result.

The filters of the LCD matrix mix the components with each other. Thus, green is heavily mixed into the spectrum of red, and blue is mixed into the spectrum of green. This situation is quite typical for LCD matrices used in laptops, but it can be better.

The color temperature of the LCD screen of the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 laptop is simply terrible. So, at 100% white it is approximately 6600 K, but as the proportion of white decreases, the color temperature increases. Moreover, in dark colors (with a white proportion of less than 80%), our spectrophotometer can no longer measure color temperature correctly.

The increase in color temperature when moving from light to dark tones is due to the fact that in dark areas on the gray scale the proportion of blue color increases greatly. In addition, the proportion of green color is underestimated throughout the gray scale. Note that even visually White color Doesn't look white on this laptop's screen. It has a distinct reddish tint, which is immediately noticeable. In a word, the primary colors here are not at all balanced.

The color accuracy (delta E) of this screen is also not satisfactory. Almost across the entire gray scale, the delta E value is more than 15 (in light areas less than 15, but more than 10), which is an unacceptable result.

If we talk about the viewing angles of the screen, then they leave much to be desired. When looking at an image at an angle horizontally and vertically, the color is distorted and the contrast drops greatly. In a word, the screen in this laptop, calling a spade a spade, is simply terrible.

Work under load and in idle mode

Unfortunately, the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 laptop cannot be analyzed using the AIDA64 utility Extreme Edition It turned out to be impossible (we used the latest version of the utility v. 4.70). As soon as the system stability test was loaded (not launched, but loaded), the laptop simply froze. Therefore, we cannot provide traditional temperature graphs obtained using the AIDA64 utility.

At first we wanted to use another diagnostic utility, HWiNFO64 v.4.46, but, as it turned out, the laptop is incompatible with this utility - it freezes when trying to launch the utility (at the stage of sensor initialization). Well, we also note that the well-known LinX 0.6.5 test also turned out to be incompatible with the AMD A8-6410 APU. In this benchmark, no matter the size of the task, the test crashes with a notification about insufficient memory.

Therefore, the only thing we can state is that in idle mode the processor frequency in the laptop is 1.0 GHz.

Well, in order to determine the frequency of the APU cores in their loading mode, we used a video transcoding test using the MediaCoder x64 0.8.25.5560 application from our iXBT Notebook Benchmark v.1.0 package. It turned out that with such a load the frequency of the APU cores is 2.0-2.2 GHz.

Memory subsystem and storage performance

According to the AIDA64 Cache & Memory Benchmark utility, the memory write speed is 5568 MB/s, and the read speed is 8896 MB/s. For DDR3-1600 memory (peak bandwidth 12800 MB/s), this is not enough even for single-channel memory mode. But these are the features of the memory controller in AMD APUs.

To measure HDD performance in the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 laptop, we used several utilities: ATTO Disk Benchmark, CrystalDiskMark and HD Tune Pro.

The ATTO Disk Benchmark utility determines maximum speed sequential read and write at just under 100 MB/s.

The CrystalDiskMark utility gives approximately the same results.

Well, here are also the results of testing using the HD Tune Pro utility:

Noise level

The HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 laptop can be classified as very quiet.

The noise level was measured in a special sound-absorbing chamber, and the sensitive microphone was positioned relative to the laptop so as to simulate the typical position of the user's head. According to our measurements, the noise level emitted by the laptop when idle is 23 dBA. This is such a low noise level that it merges with the level of the natural background, and it is simply impossible to “hear” the laptop in this mode.

To load the processor, we used a video transcoding test using the MediaCoder x64 0.8.25.5560 application from our iXBT Notebook Benchmark v.1.0 package (simply because the AIDA64 utility, which we traditionally use when measuring noise levels, turned out to be incompatible with this laptop). When the processor is loaded, the noise level emitted by the laptop increases to 29 dBA. This is also a very low noise level, and you can only notice it in a very quiet room, and only if you listen specifically.

Load scenarioNoise level
Idle mode23 dBA
29 dBA

Battery life

Measuring the operating time of an ultrabook offline mode we carried out according to our method using the iXBT Battery Benchmark v.1.0 script. Let us remind you that we measure battery life at a screen brightness of 100 cd/m². During testing, the power consumption mode was set to “Balanced”, and the wireless communication module was turned off.

The test results are as follows:

Load scenarioWorking hours
Watch video5 hours 10 minutes
Working with text and viewing photos6 hours 19 minutes

It must be stated that the battery life of this convertible laptop is very good. It is not a record high, but nevertheless above average.

Performance Research

To evaluate the performance of the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 laptop, we used our methodology for measuring laptop performance using iXBT Notebook Benchmark v.1.0 and iXBT Game Benchmark v.1.0. In addition, for clarity, we also added to the table the test results of the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 14D laptop, based on the A4-5000 APU (Kabini).

The test results in the iXBT Notebook Benchmark v.1.0 are shown in the table.

So, as can be seen from the testing results, in terms of integrated performance, the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 convertible laptop is inferior to our reference system based on Intel processor Core i5-3317U 40%. Otherwise, we can say that our reference system outperforms the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 convertible laptop by 67% in performance - with this formulation the result is even more depressing. In general, if we compare the AMD A8-6410 APU with Intel processors, then in terms of integrated performance in non-gaming applications its analogue is the Intel Core i3-4010U processor (for a laptop with this processor the integrated result is just over 60 points).

If we compare the performance of the Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 14D (APU A4-5000) laptops and the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360, then the performance of the latter is already 32% higher. It would seem very good, but this is when compared with the APU A4-5000 Well, but absolute value integrated performance in non-gaming applications HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 laptop with AMD A8-6410 APU can be classified as systems entry level. This laptop is absolutely not suitable for serious resource-intensive tasks.

Now let's look at the test results in games. All gaming tests were run at 1366x768 resolution.

As you can see from the testing results, even with the game settings at minimum quality (and even with the low screen resolution used), there is only one game that can be played comfortably. That is, perhaps graphically AMD core Radeon R5 in the AMD A8-6410 APU has become more powerful than the AMD Radeon R4 graphics core, which is used in the AMD A6-6310 APU, but this does not make it any lighter. This is not a gaming solution.

conclusions

So let's summarize.

In our opinion, the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 convertible laptop has more minuses than pluses. And it's not just that in terms of performance it can only be classified as an entry-level laptop that can only be used for the most simple tasks (office applications, Internet communication, watching videos, etc.), but also that this device is very bad screen, a rather mediocre sound subsystem, and in addition it is heavy (for its size) and thick. The tablet mode in this transformer, as we noted in the review, is only an additional option, but not the main mode, since the same weight and thickness interfere with the use of such a tablet.

This laptop model also has other disadvantages, which we did not write about in the article itself, since it is not very clear how to classify these disadvantages. It's about about problems that do not always appear. For example, sometimes it happens that a laptop does not respond to a flash drive inserted into it. That is, he sometimes “sees” the same flash drive inserted into the same USB connector, and sometimes not. Well, one of the advantages that can be noted is the fact that this laptop is very quiet. However, reverse side this is a low level of performance.

Now about the cost. At the time of writing this article, the cost of the HP Pavilion 13-a020nr x360 was 25 thousand rubles. Actually, for a 13-inch convertible laptop with this level of performance and with a screen resolution of 1366×768, the price is quite reasonable (that’s about what they cost), but in this particular case we do not recommend the model we examined for purchase.

HP has announced laptops from the Pavilion and Pavilion x360 lines for the 2017 model year. The new items are characterized by a retouched design, adjusted downwards (mostly) dimensions and new equipment options.

Models in the Pavilion line received completely new hinges (unlike its predecessors, the lid now fits under the rear edge of the case and, when unfolded, slightly lifts the laptop, giving it a slight tilt) and a touchpad with diamond-cut edges.

The screen frames have become narrower, both on the top and on the sides. The thickness has also decreased: for example, in a model with a 15.6-inch diagonal screen – by 12%.

Laptops in the Pavilion line are equipped with Intel processors (Celeron, Core i3, i5 and i7) of the Kaby Lake family and AMD E2 or A10 APUs. The HDD capacity can reach 2 TB, discrete video cards - both from AMD and Nvidia (in particular, GeForce 940MX). There are two screen resolution options: 1366 x 768 and 1920 x 1080 pixels. An IR camera can optionally be installed near the screen for use in conjunction with the biometric function Windows authentication Hello. Each model is equipped with a USB 3.1 Type-C port and HDMI video output, and battery life reaches 10 hours.

If the new HP Pavilion will be offered in five colors (blue, gold, pink, gray and red), then only two color options are reserved for the Pavilion x360: silver and gold. Transformable laptops AMD processors not allowed - only Intel Kaby Lake models Pentium series, Core i3, i5 and i7. But discrete video cards will be offered by both Nvidia and AMD. The maximum capacity of the solid-state drive is stated to be 512 GB.

The younger and older models of the Pavilion x360 series, equipped with 11.6-inch and 15.6-inch screens, have become thinner and lighter, and only models with 13.3-inch and 14-inch screens have gained both weight (by 27 grams) and thickness ( by 0.1 mm).

Price order in the USA for updated laptops such:

  • HP Pavilion 14-inch screen (Core i5, 12 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD) – $700;
  • HP Pavilion 15.6-inch touchscreen (Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD) – $725;
  • HP Pavilion 15.6-inch touchscreen (AMD A12 APU, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD) – $600;
  • HP Pavilion 17-inch screen (AMD A12 APU, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD) – $630;
  • HP Pavilion x360 with 11.6-inch screen (Pentium N4200, 4 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD) – $400;
  • HP Pavilion x360 with a 14-inch diagonal screen (Core i3, 6 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD) – $500;
  • HP Pavilion x360 15.6-inch screen (Core i5, 8 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD) – $700.

The new items will go on sale in May-June of this year.

Today we will look at the HP Pavilion x360 laptop. This series includes 5 models: four of them are based on fourth-generation Intel Core processors, the fifth model is equipped with AMD A8-6410.

Configuration

The HP Pavilion X360 transformer is based on a quad-core processor. The APU operates at 2 GHz, which can be increased to 2.4 thanks to Turbo Core mode. There is a 2 MB L2 cache memory, as well as a Radeon R5 - a powerful graphics core. The system works with DDR3L-1600 MHz memory. Its energy consumption reaches no more than 15 W. HP Pavilion x360 13 received 8 GB of DDR3L RAM. The Micron 16KTF1G64HZ module is used. The memory operating mode is single-channel.

The laptop is extremely difficult to disassemble. The storage system includes a thin 2.5-inch HDD with a capacity of 500 GB or 1 TB. absent. Communication capabilities include wireless network adapter Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 802.11b/g/n. It has built-in Bluetooth 4.0. There is also a 1 gigabit network interface based on a Realtek controller.

The audio subsystem has a Realtek ALC282 HDA codec. For acoustics, a pair of built-in speakers is used. There is only one audio jack, but a combined one, in other words, suitable for both headphones and a microphone. Note that the battery is non-removable, its capacity is 43.5 Wh. The device has a webcam with a built-in microphone. It is located above the screen.

Appearance

All 5 models of 13-inch transformers of the Pavilion 13 series are made in a similar body and also have the same screens. The HP Pavilion x360 13 a150nr, like other models in this series, can be used as a traditional laptop or tablet. To switch to the second mode, open the laptop 360 degrees. On one side of the resulting device there will be a screen, on the other - a keyboard. By adjusting the opening angle appropriately, you can achieve the ideal position for watching movies and videos.

This device also has all the functions of a tablet computer. Among them we note: auto-rotate screen, Windows button and touch input. When closed, the body is completely silver. Visually it looks like it is metal, but it is plastic. Fingerprints do not remain on the case. In the center of the cover is a mirrored HP logo. The keyboard is black. The working surface is made of special polished metal and has a chocolate color. There are no indicators or buttons in this area.

The screen is attached to the body in the form of two hinges. They are at the bottom of the display. The hinges are tight, making it possible to fix the display in different positions. On the left is USB 2.0, a combined audio jack - minijack, a ventilation grille for the cooling system, a volume control and a power button.

Now let's look at the right side. There are a couple of USB 3.0, RJ-45, HDMI ports for a projector or monitor, a memory card slot, and a connector for the power adapter.

Keyboard

Now let's talk about input devices. The HP Pavilion x360 13 a150nr laptop, like other devices in the series, uses an island-type keyboard. The size of the main buttons is 15×15 mm. The keys are black. The letters, in turn, are white and very noticeable. The keyboard is slightly recessed, judging by the framing surface. The base underneath is quite rigid. There is no clicking sound. The layout is non-standard. This approach is rarely seen in laptops. An L-shaped Enter button and a short left Shift button are used.

Touchpad

The HP Pavilion x360 laptop has a clickpad that simulates pressing a key. The size of the working area is 95×65 mm. The touch surface is recessed and practically does not stand out. There are no complaints about the sensitivity. This input device supports MultiTouch as well as gestures. The clickpad is convenient and has received high praise.

Sound

HP Pavilion x360 has an audio system with two built-in speakers. It is not very suitable for listening to music; for these purposes it is better to use external headphones.

Screen and other parameters

HP Pavilion x360 is equipped with an LCD touch matrix, which is complemented by LED backlighting. It has a glossy finish. Screen size is 13.3 inches with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels. Note that brightness control is carried out thanks to pulse-width modulation of the LED backlight with a frequency of 200 Hz. At the maximum level there is no flicker. screen is at 59.1%.

In idle conditions, the processor frequency is 1.0 GHz. Under load, this figure increases to 2.0-2.2 GHz. The laptop falls into the incredibly quiet category. According to measurements, in idle conditions the noise emitted by the device is 23 dBA. We're talking about such a low level that it's hard to hear laptop in natural conditions is almost impossible.

Now let's look at what happens under load. The noise level increases to 29 dBA. Even then, it can only be heard in a completely quiet room.

IN this device the pros and cons are closely intertwined. Its performance is considered entry-level. It can be used to solve undemanding tasks: watching videos, Internet communication, office applications. The screen also has a number of disadvantages. The sound subsystem does not stand out in any way. It can also be called heavy and thick.

Tablet mode is a nice touch additional opportunity. Sometimes the device refuses to respond to removable media. The quiet operation is an undeniable advantage. You can purchase the device for 25,000 rubles. This price is considered to be quite appropriate for the level of the device. However, when making a purchasing decision, you should carefully weigh the strengths and weaknesses.

Now you know everything you need to know about the HP Pavilion x360 laptop.

It will not be a revelation to anyone that the laptop market is currently experiencing better times: there is too much competition with tablet computers, because they are more convenient for working with documents, mail or Internet surfing, and the “tablets” weigh much less. To stay afloat, laptop manufacturers are forced to use various tricks and come up with various “hybrids” that combine the advantages of a tablet and a laptop. Today we received a model from Hewlett-Packard called Pavilion 13 x360 Convertible.

Short description

The buyer will find a 13.3-inch touch screen and good characteristics: last generation Intel i3/i5 processor, up to 16 GB of RAM and up to 1 TB hard drive. But the main feature, of course, is the design of the hinges, which allow you to fix the screen at any opening angle: from 0 to 360 degrees. This means that the hybrid can be used as a regular laptop, as a panel for watching videos, as a second screen, or instead of a regular tablet.

As is often the case with laptops, one model can contain dozens of different configurations. In our case they turned out to be as follows:

  • Operating system: Windows 8.1
  • Processor: Intel Core i-5-5200U 2 cores x 2.2 GHz with GT
  • Memory: 12 GB DDR3L 1600 MHz

Appearance and ergonomics of the case

Our test subject has a classic ultrabook shape. The rather thin case (22 mm) is made of plastic, but due to the silver coating on the outer surface it appears to be metal. In the center of the outer cover is the traditional mirrored HP logo. The surface is highly resistant to fingerprints, but is also easy to scratch. The keyboard panel is covered with a sheet of black metal. On the inner surface of the lid there is a 13.3-inch screen protected by glass. The joint between the glass and the body is filled with a thin strip of sealant. Above the screen is an HD camera. Everything is neat and tidy, the only complaint is the irrational use of space. It was entirely possible to reduce the width of the frames and equip the laptop with a 14.5–15-inch screen, while maintaining the dimensions.

Together, the two panels are connected by a pair of tight hinges that can rotate around two axes, due to which it was possible to provide a rotation angle of 360 degrees. It is worth paying tribute to the engineers, since the mechanism, on the one hand, does not require excessive force, and on the other hand, it reliably holds the screen in any position. Over the course of a month of intensive testing, no play has appeared in the hinges, and they continue to properly fulfill their purpose. So, why do we need such a large opening angle? Everything is very simple: the device can successfully operate in four different modes - classic (opening angle 90–150 degrees), tablet mode (angle 360 degrees, the keys will be at the bottom), “hut” mode (angle 160–170 degrees) and as a panel (270–290 degrees).

Supports auto-rotate screen, full touch input, and even has a Windows button. And although the “tablet” gadget turned out to be quite bulky and heavy (you can’t hold it in one hand for long), the tablet mode can be very useful when you need to quickly send email or edit something, but balancing with an open laptop on your lap is extremely inconvenient. The two remaining positions are perfect for using the device as a monitor with an external keyboard and mouse, or when watching videos when the keyboard is not particularly needed.

The gadget has three USB ports (a rare luxury for devices of this type): USB 2.0 on the left and two USB 3.0 on the right side. On the left edge you can also find the power button, card reader, volume rockers, disk operation indicator and radiator grille.

On the right is a combined audio jack (headphones, microphone), a non-prominent Windows key, an HDMI port, an RJ-45 network connector, a power adapter socket and a charging indicator. Here you can also see a special slot for a Kensington lock.

At the bottom there are stereo speakers, an air intake grille, and several rubber feet.

Laptops in this series use an island-type keyboard with an increased distance between the keys. Number pad No. Most keys are 15 × 15 mm, top row function keys 5 × 15 in size combines multimedia functions, Enter is two-line, left Shift is short, cursor keys are compressed. The keys themselves are black, the letters on them are white. There is no backlight here, and the light from the screen is not enough to make the keys clearly visible. The keyboard is slightly recessed relative to the surface, which is made of a single surface; the buttons are located in individual holes in it.

The rigidity of the case is quite sufficient; it bends slightly only when pressed too hard. The key travel is about 2 mm, the resistance is quite low, and the presses are uninformative, so you have to squeeze the buttons all the way. On the other hand, laptop keyboards have never been of high quality, but the obvious advantages include low response volume. Small rubber inserts along the edges of the panel prevent the covers from colliding.

The dimensions of the clickpad working area are 95 × 65 mm, which is quite enough for comfortable work, especially since you can always use touch input. The touchpad is highly sensitive and supports multi-touch and gesture functions. There are no dedicated keys, but their functions are activated by mechanically pressing the corners of the touchpad.
When you rotate the gadget more than 180 degrees, the keyboard is locked, so you can safely place the device on the keys. However, there was also a fly in the ointment: switching back to laptop mode does not always bring the keyboard back to life, and you often have to close the lid all the way, and then open it and log in to the OS again.

Screen

The HP Pavilion 13 x360 Convertible uses an inexpensive LED-backlit TN touchscreen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. The diagonal size is 13.3 inches and the resolution is 1366 × 768 pixels. Of course, compared to latest trends, when smartphones already use 4K resolution, this is not much, but it doesn’t hurt the eye. The maximum brightness of the screen is quite low - only 168 cd/m2, and you are unlikely to need to lower it, but this option is provided: through the control panel you can reduce it down to 11 units. The backlight works smoothly and the screen flickers unnoticed. The gamma indicator is too high and is around three units, the contrast is 430:1.

There are also certain problems with color rendering: standard sRGB is only 60% covered. The temperature is 6600 K, and the colors are rather dirty: white with an admixture of red, black with blue. But the viewing angles are quite good: up to an angle of 175 degrees, the image remains readable, and the colors are not greatly distorted. Screen protected tempered glass, and the sensitive touch surface supports 10-point multi-touch. In general, in comparison with modern tablets, the screen of the Pavilion 13 x360 Convertible is noticeably inferior, but among laptops it is a strong average.

Filling

The heart of the computer is a dual-core Intel Core i5-5200U with a frequency of 2.20 GHz, made using 14-nanometer technology, with support for Hyper-threading technologies (adds two virtual cores) and Turbo Boost (overclocking to 2.7 GHz). The processor power consumption is 15 W, and the cache memory is 3 MB. Integrated is responsible for graphics Intel chip HD 5500, which is usually enough for everyday tasks, but it may not cope with displaying modern games.

The RAM is especially interesting: the laptop has two DDR3L sticks with a frequency of 1600 MHz, of different sizes and from different manufacturers: 8 GB Hynix/Hyundai and 4 GB Kingston. What is the reason for this diversity is unclear. This model contains, albeit small in volume (128 GB), but a fast solid-state drive made by Samsung. But if something in the configuration doesn’t suit you, don’t despair: there are many configurations on sale with different processors, RAM, permanent memory and even displays.

There is no optical drive in the device (it would probably add thickness and weight to the laptop). Wi-Fi module here Qualcomm Atheros QCA9565 802.11b/g/n with Bluetooth support 4.0. If it is more convenient for someone to use a network cable, then the 100-megabit Realtek interface is at your service.

Sound (controlled by the Realtek ALC282 NDA codec) is output through two built-in speakers located at the bottom. This, of course, is not very rational, but thanks to the roundings and legs, the sound is not muffled. The volume level is average and the sound is shallow, with a predominance of metallic tones. In a word, it is better to listen to music through headphones (there is a combined 3.5 mm port for connecting both a microphone and headphones); the sound output through them is of very decent quality. Finally, the laptop comes with an HP TrueVision FHD webcam with a built-in digital microphone.

The battery is a three-cell non-removable battery with a capacity of 43.5 Wh. This volume is enough for about six hours of battery life at maximum brightness, the Internet is turned off and heavy load. When working without load, the battery lasts for about eight hours - although not a record, but a very good indicator for a laptop.

In idle mode, the processor frequency is reduced to 1 GHz, and all active cooling means are turned off. If we translate the noise level in this state into numbers, we get 25 dBA - the level of natural background in the apartment, which means the device will be almost silent. In load mode, the device's coolers turn on, but even in this state the noise level does not exceed 35 dBA. As a result, we get a very quiet laptop, which also heats up very little (no more than 37 degrees) even under maximum load.

Software and performance

The operating system is preinstalled on the device Windows system 8.1, but it is possible that soon the Pavilion 13 x360 Convertible will begin shipping with Windows 10. In addition to standard pre-installed programs such as Office 365 or Chrome, the laptop has a proprietary HP Support Assistant utility, which will tell you about the configuration of what you are holding in hands. We recommend using it when purchasing a laptop.

In the AIDA64 RAM test we get very good performance: memory read speed 19,336 MB/s, write 18,846 MB/s, copy 16,077 MB/s, latency 82.2 ns. To measure SSD performance, we used ATTO Disk Benchmark and Crystal Disk Mark utilities. The first determined the maximum sequential writing speed at 120 MB/s, and reading at 520 MB/s, the second gives approximately the same results: 501 MB/s and 120 MB/s, respectively.

With gaming performance, not everything is so smooth: some tests and games refused to start at all. The 3D Mark 11 benchmark showed only 980 points, which is slightly higher on the internal scale office computer. Cinebench R15 gives 179 points for the CPU test and 22.63 FPS for the OpenGL test. PCMark 7 gives 3652 points, 3DMark Ice Storm 35,620 points. But, by the way, the operating system and office applications do not slow down it at all.

Experience of use

Pavilion 13 x360 Convertible is primarily a mobile device, which, thanks to its low weight and relatively compact size, you can always take it with you. This is emphasized by its fairly high autonomy. Another plus is the ability to work regardless of the presence of a supporting surface. Of course, using the device in tablet mode when suspended is not very convenient, but if you put it on your lap, communication with the gadget becomes productive. But the location of the depressed Windows key on the right side turned out to be far from optimal: it is almost impossible to find it. Again, if you're not using the keyboard, you can always flip it, bringing the screen closer to your eyes. I was also pleased with the low noise level and low heating of the device.

The disadvantages include very poor performance, and it is unclear why so much RAM is used there. The device most likely won’t be able to handle games or resource-intensive programs anyway, but for office tasks and simple toys, 4 GB of RAM is enough. The screen here is also not the best, but thanks to the wide viewing angles it is convenient to work with it at any eye position, and the responsive sensor noticeably speeds up interaction with the device.

conclusions

The HP Pavilion 13 x360 Convertible has both its pros and cons. Quiet operation, low heating and high autonomy are combined here with a low-performance system. However, the main feature of the device is the unique rotating mechanism that works quite well and allows you to use the device in almost any circumstances with maximum convenience.

The cost of the family’s laptops starts at 35,000, which is quite reasonable given the dollar exchange rate.

So, if you want to watch movies, surf the Internet, edit photos, play old games or type texts with physical keyboard with convenience in any conditions, then the HP Pavilion 13 x360 Convertible will be a good choice for you.
