Garmin Forerunner 230 is an excellent sports GPS watch, positioning themselves as some of the best fitness devices for runners. They include advanced dynamics, giving the athlete the most detailed information about his form, and have big advantage in training mode.

We bring to your attention a review of the Forerunner 230, in which we will reveal the functions of the device, its features and characteristics.

The box includes: soft strap with HRM heart rate sensor (limited edition - 230 pieces), charging cable and instruction manual. Please note that the strap does not have Running Dynamics, i.e. HRM-RUN and HRM-TRI functions, and not all kits include a chest strap.

The Forerunner 230 is available for $249.99 ($299.99 with HRM chest strap) and comes in black with white trim, purple with white trim, and bright yellow with black trim. The silicone strap has plenty of holes for ventilation and more than enough slots to accommodate larger wrists. In this regard, these sports watch Suitable for running for both men and women.

Those who have already tried the Garmin Forerunner 235 sports watch will be familiar with the design of the Forerunner 230, as they are two almost identical devices. The only difference is that rear end The 235 model is equipped with a heart rate monitor, unlike the 230 version. However, for users of the latter, the option of using a heart rate monitor in the form of a chest strap is always available, which can be purchased either separately or as a set with the Forerunner 230.

The watch screen is 215x180 pixels with low resolution and offers a color display, albeit with simple choice color, but enough to highlight important information, such as heart rate zones when the chest strap is connected. It's worth noting that the Forerunner 230 should not be classified as a smartwatch - rather, it is a watch with smart features. The loss in pixels is compensated by long-term operation of the device in offline mode.

There are 5 physical buttons on the plastic body of the device:

  • power button and screen backlight on/off
  • button to start and stop the timer, as well as select an activity profile: running, indoor running, cycling, indoor cycling and “other”
  • button to return to the previous screen, as well as cancel a new circle
  • two buttons to scroll through widgets, on-screen data, options and settings, and to move up/down content on the display

The watch is incredibly light, weighing only 41 g, so it is practically not felt on your hand during long workouts.

Garmin FR 230 Features

While the watch doesn't have a built-in optical heart rate sensor, it does offer most of the tools a runner needs: distance, pace, some interval options, and daily activity tracking.

In addition to measuring essential metrics for running and cycling, such as distance and speed, the Garmin FR 230 watch also tracks other equally important data:

  • heart rate
  • VO2 Max estimate
  • activity tracking

You can create custom workouts and educational plans in the Garmin Connect app and upload them to the FR230 for real-time workouts categorized by pace, time and distance.

The Forerunner 230 paired with a chest heart rate monitor is great for estimating VO2 Max. The watch measures the maximum amount of oxygen you can consume per minute per kilogram of body weight at maximum performance. This good way Monitor your level of physical fitness and improve further.

Since the optical heart rate monitors that are built into the back of most smartwatches are imperfect, in this case the chest strap is like additional accessory The Forerunner 230 will be a real boon for professional runners. Maximum accuracy of heartbeat data is guaranteed.

Recovery Advisor provides a real-time assessment of an athlete's recovery within the first few minutes of a run, and Training Effect measures the load of your workout on an intuitive 5-point scale so you know how much effort you're putting in.

Internal technologies

The accelerometer integrated into the watch records the distance and pace of movement. Additionally, the device is equipped with a sophisticated GPS and GLONASS antenna that connects with satellites to accurately and instantly locate the user's location. Whether you're on a forest trail or a busy city street, this antenna provides accurate coordinates anywhere in the world.

The ANT+ protocol allows you to connect to external devices, such as ANT+ exercise equipment in gyms and heart rate belts.

Activity Tracking

The all-day activity tracker records all your physical activities and progress:

  • distance
  • calories burned
  • distance

One of the most important features on a watch is the navigation bar. The red indicator gradually fills the allocated space on the display if you have not had any activity in the last 60 minutes. Once the panel is completely filled with color, you will be notified by a specific sound and vibration. This function may be disabled.

Activity Profiles

As we mentioned above, the watch has several built-in activity modes, or workout profiles:

  • indoor running
  • a ride on the bicycle
  • cycling indoors
  • other (provides information about time, speed and distance, allowing you to engage in any other type of active activity)

Each of the profiles can be further personalized according to the athlete's preferences in terms of GPS/GLONASS activation, alerts, automatic detection circle distances, etc.

During a session, the watch records your tracked workout data. The following information can be seen on the display:

  • current dynamics (frequency and step length)
  • speed and pace
  • time
  • Heart rate (when used with a heart rate monitor)
  • altitude based on map data

Since the watch does not have a barometer, the altitude is based on the GPS map.

Automatic pause

This feature is triggered when the watch detects that a runner has stopped during an activity tracking session. You can further adjust this feature when you are driving slower than the set speed.

Sleep tracking

During your sleep the clock gives detailed analysis its qualities, as well as the time of falling asleep and waking up. IN personal profile Garmin Connect offers statistics and detailed information about movements during sleep and its levels throughout the night.

Smart notifications and other information

Users have the opportunity to read text and SMS messages directly on the watch display. You can also configure the notification type: sound, vibration or silent. You can turn off all smart notifications while you're working out, and they'll reactivate when you're done tracking your activity.

When connected to a smartphone, Garmin FR230 automatically displays upcoming calendar events and weather information.

Under the Control panel, which serves as a shortcut, you can activate other functions:

  • find my phone
  • do not disturb mode
  • Bluetooth
  • manual synchronization

Music

Unlike other sports smartwatches that can store music files directly in its memory, the Garmin FR230 does not provide such an option. However, while exercising, you can use your watch to control the music on your compatible smartphone.

Water protection

The device is waterproof, which means you can swim in the pool, take a shower, and not be afraid of getting caught in the rain while jogging. It also provides sweat protection during intense workouts at the gym.

Battery and charger

The proprietary charger has a clamp design with USB on the other end. Because of your differences charging device Garmin products do not fit other gadgets and are unique.

Application

The Forerunner 230 uses the Garmin Connect app, available for both iOS and Android. It also has a web version for PC, which is much more functional and which you can access at connect.garmin.com.

This is one of the best proprietary platforms with its breadth of capabilities and range of characteristics. There are tools online for creating custom workouts, designing and discovering routes, and viewing data. It's also perhaps the most comprehensive multisport ecosystem, including running and cycling, but also golf and general functions health.

The mobile app is less attractive. It's designed to analyze your workout data and daily activity stats, and it's all a bit confusing and awkward to use.

Are you ready to purchase this watch and which one would you prefer as an alternative, please share in the comments.

In May 2017 Garmin company proved that love at first sight is still possible. The Garmin Forerunner 935 multisport gadget was presented to the public - perhaps the most stylish smart watch the last three years.

Fans of running, multisport and triathlon will immediately fall in love with this amazing device with a vibrant sporty design. The Americans are positioning the new product as a smart watch for demanding people. If you are ruthless with yourself, push yourself to the max in your workouts, and choose the best, this watch is for you.

The manufacturing company presented the new product as follows: “Garmin Forerunner 935 is a modification of our successful model Phoenix 5 s updated design and improved functionality." The company really did not skimp on innovations:

    • improved color scheme display, increasing by 4 times (from 16 to 64x) the number of transmitted colors;
    • added data transfer via Wi-Fi;
    • increased battery life. After the update, the watch works 24 hours a day active mode and 336 hours of standby time;
    • added energy saving mode UltraTrac, which lasts for 50 hours of active work;
    • improved altimeter and gyroscope to improve measurement accuracy;
    • updated heart rate monitor. A high-precision sensor monitors heart rate around the clock, data is recorded every 2 seconds;
    • added the “Find My Phone” function to search for a cell phone in a house, car, or a stuffed backpack.

The developers of Garmin were meticulous in creating smart watches. It will take you a long time to get the hang of all the features and enhancements of the Forerunner 935. In the swimming mode alone, we counted 18 (!) functions - determining the type and length of the stroke, calculating the distance to the edge of the pool, etc. In other modes there are even more functions.

    Appearance, weight and dimensions

The watch is ideal for daily wear. They look great on the hand and go well with suits and sportswear. The watch comes with a black classic silicone strap. If you suddenly want brightness and variety, the strap can be easily changed - the model is compatible with QuickFit quick-change straps. If desired, you can buy straps made of colored silicone, leather or metal.

The watch case is made of reinforced black plastic. Thanks to this decision, the American company set a record - the watch weighs only 49 grams. They are not felt on the hand, do not pull or pinch the wrist. The silicone strap ensures a tight fit of the sensors to the skin, which increases the accuracy of measurements.

    Screen

The round color dial with a resolution of 240×240 is made of scratch-resistant mineral glass. It does not glare and remains bright even on a sunny day.

    Operating time and battery

We have already written that Forerunner 935 plows whole day in active mode. In standby mode, forget about charging two weeks. This is one of best performance among similar watches.

    Equipment

In the standard package with the watch you will find a cable for charging the device and a user manual.

IN fully equipped sensors will be added to the clock and cable HRM-tri And HRM-swim and accessories for triathlon.

    Compatible with Android and iOS

The American company did not disappoint again - the watch interacts with anyone mobile device. The device easily connects with Android OS version 4.0 and higher, iOS 8.2 and telephones at Windows based; works “without brakes”, freezes and long waits. Response time is almost instantaneous.

As we already said, the updated device works over Wi-Fi too, so now the exchange of data between the watch and the phone is carried out automatically. Before you even have time to take off your sneakers after a run, your phone will already be downloading and processing your sports results.

    Installation and configuration

Most mobile companies strive for maximum simplicity and ease of use of gadgets. This trend has not bypassed the Forerunner 935. The first launch of the watch is very simple: register in the application and start synchronization with your smartphone. In twenty seconds the watch will be ready for use.

Forerunner 935 uploads all your sports stats to the Garmin Connect online community. Here you can check your progress, receive useful tips and share your achievements with friends on social networks. Some users criticize the application for being cumbersome. We think this is a plus - the application has many fine adjustments(for example, among the sports modes you can even choose snowboarding, hiking and yoga). It's worth spending a few hours to fully customize your watch.

The application store will also be useful for the user. Through it you can download free watch faces, maps and more. useful information.

Forerunner 935 allows you to receive notifications from other applications on your smartphone, be it Facebook, Instagram or task scheduler. The gadget even supports emoji.

Sports modes and heart rate measurement

Heart rate recording depends on the selected mode. The optical heart rate sensor is set as standard to 24/7 heart rate measurement every two seconds. A week's recording history is saved in the application. For more accurate statistics, users recommend using additional chest heart rate monitors HRM-Run(for running), HRM-swim(for swimming in the pool) and HRM-Tri(for open water swimming, running and cycling). Thanks to them, you will get serious professional-level statistics. The most versatile, of course HRM-tri, but it will fall off in the pool, but under a triathlon suit it’s ideal. HRM-swim has a stickier surface and fits better to the body, but does not measure running performance.

The model has a huge amount advanced settings. With the purchase of a chest heart rate monitor, a wide range of statistical data opens up to you. The device allows you to get advanced statistics for running, cycling and swimming, including ground contact time, frequency And stride length And vertical oscillation coefficient. The watch will also calculate your VO2max- an indicator of the rate of oxygen absorption by the body and the lactate threshold will be finish time forecast and they will give recovery recommendations.

If you want to evaluate the effectiveness of your training, then a smart watch will help you with this. The gadget, working in status assessment mode, will automatically evaluate your activity.

In general, the functionality of the watch satisfies the requirements of an athlete of any level. Forerunner 935 has:

    • alarm
    • timer and stopwatch
    • compass, gyroscope and altimeter
    • thermometer
    • GPS and GLONASS sensors
    • music playback control
    • Activity tracking features - step counter and calories burned
    • sleep monitoring function
    • vibration and sound notifications
    • customizable training plans
    • running dynamics data measurement
    • personal best table
    • fitness tests and personal training
    • and a lot more...

The Garmin Forerunner 935 is a multisport smartwatch that tracks activity, monitors fitness, and delivers notifications.

Although Garmin positions the Forerunner 935 as a running/triathlon gadget, the watch can act as a cycling computer, a hiking navigator, or a regular smartwatch. I tested them and here is my opinion.

    Equipment Garmin Forerunner 935

In addition to the Forerunner 935 itself, the kit includes a USB cable for charging and connection, as well as a quick instruction manual.

    Features and Design

Mineral glass screen and a body made of fiber-reinforced polymer allow the Garmin Forerunner 935 to withstand pressure up to 5 atmospheres, i.e. you can dive to a depth of 50 m.

The watch is held on a silicone strap. The resolution of the 1.2-inch color display is 240x240 pixels.

Available functions: timer, stopwatch, 10 types of sound and vibration signals, optical heart rate monitoring, barometric altimeter, compass, gyroscope, accelerometer and thermometer.

Connection to a smartphone is carried out via Bluetooth, to external sensors - via ANT+, to the network - via Wi-Fi.

All the variety of functions of the gadget fits into a compact round case. Weighing just 49 grams, the watch is 47mm wide and 13.9mm thick. The Forerunner 935 is slightly heavier and larger than the Forerunner 735XT, but it is smaller and lighter than the Fenix 5.

    Application and features

Garmin Forerunner 935 comes pre-configured with software to track sports activity: cycling (road and mountain), hiking, running (outdoor, treadmill and indoor), swimming (pool and open water), snowboarding, skiing (cross country and downhill), surfing, rowing (indoor or outdoor) and even golf.

Garmin's Connect IQ store offers apps for even more sports. All data is stored on the Forerunner 935 and then uploaded to Garminconnect.com. via the Garmin smartphone app or by direct USB connection to a computer.

The manufacturer's website has complete information about each type of activity, as well as statistics reviews in calendar mode. Garminconnect.com allows you to create your own sports programs and download them to your watch.

Forerunner 935 is designed not only for serious sports training, but also for everyday tasks such as measuring steps, calories burned, climbing floors, intense exercise, distance traveled, sleep time and quality, as well as heart rate monitoring 24/7.

Combined with the Garmin Connect app, this sports watch acts as a feature-rich smartwatch: it displays call notifications, text messages and calendar events, show the current weather, control music on a paired smartphone, answer calls, help you find a lost phone, and can even remotely control your Garmin Virb action camera.

    Use in practice

When you first start you need to press top button on the left side of the Forerunner 935 case - will open immediately simple settings. After selecting the language, you will be prompted to pair with your smartphone and download free application Garmin.

Once you launch the app on your phone, simply select Forerunner 935 from your list of Garmin products and your watch will sync immediately.

To start tracking activity, click the top button on the right side. The remaining battery percentage will be displayed at the top of the screen, with a long list below to select the activity to track. GPS connects in about 15 seconds, then a beep and vibration notify you that the device is ready to record data. It all works simply and intuitively.

For example, while cycling, the Garmin Forerunner 935's screen shows your speed, distance, and average speed. To see the dial, you need to press bottom button on the left side until he appears. If power meters or an ANT+ sensor are connected, information from them will also be displayed.

LiveTracking lets you share your location, speed, and other data with your online friends via a web page.

After completing the trip, you should press the top button on the right side of the watch - the screen will display suggestions: resume activity, save the result, resume later, set a stage marker, return to the beginning, or reset everything.

If you choose to save, the data will be downloaded to your smartphone and automatically transferred to GarminConnect.com and to Strava.com if you enable this option.

However, when tracking swimming results, Forerunner 935 often gets confused and produces incorrect data. If you swim in a 25-meter pool and follow an accurate trajectory, the device will correctly determine the distance covered. But in the 50th pool, the clock shows inflated data after just a few laps.

The Garmin Forerunner 935 is best suited for running, especially when paired with the Forerunner Running Dynamics Pod (sold separately). Indicators such as step frequency, vertical oscillation, time and distribution of contact with the ground, step length and vertical coefficient are recorded.

All data is displayed on the watch in real time. After completing your run, the gadget will vibrate to remind you to remove the sensor.

    Additional features

Garmin Forerunner 935 adds several original functions. For example, indicating the parking location of a car on a GPS navigator in order to later find the car using the watch.

The device allows you to quickly answer phone calls, as well as play, stop and switch tracks on paired gadgets. The built-in thermometer, due to the location of the watch on the wrist, is not very good at determining the air temperature, but it will accurately indicate the water temperature.

This Garmin smartwatch lasts so long that you can forget about the need to charge it. With all the smart notifications and two hours of GPS navigation per day, the Forerunner 935 lasted me 7-8 days.

Battery charge is displayed accurately. If there is 12% left, you can go camping and be sure that the gadget will work until the night. Or you can fully charge the watch on the weekend, going outdoors for the whole week, without fear of being left without navigation.

    Bottom line

The Garmin Forerunner 935 has almost no flaws. Before its release, Garmin's best multisport watch was the Fenix, but the Forerunner packs the same features into a lighter, thinner, and more compact design. They fit well on the wrist, do not get stuck in the pockets of jackets or sweaters, and are equally suitable for everyday and specialized tasks.

Garmin gadgets get regular updates, and sometimes completely new features. Updates happen through the Garmin Connect app, so keeping your Forerunner 935 software up to date is quick and easy. There are no other fitness watches with GPS support that are as simple and multifunctional. Forerunner 935 is ideal for active people who want to track every aspect of their activities and receive information about it full information. They cost a lot, an incredible $500 (RUR 30,000) - but the price is completely justified.

Multisport Garmin Forerunner 935 - video review

If you find an error, the video does not work, please select a piece of text and click Ctrl+Enter.

This review is an amateur runner's view of the capabilities of a fashionable gadget. I did not set a goal to compare the 935 with previous model 920, since I only have experience with 910s. Of course, this is already the last century, as they say, but the watch still works reliably.

    First impressions

At first glance, you can see how the 935 differs from its predecessors. The dial of the new series has undergone revolutionary changes and acquired a more classic round shape.

The round shape has pros and cons. On the one hand, the flagship model has lost character traits– chopped design, deliberately stern look. From a distance the watch cannot be distinguished from an ordinary one. I think many businessmen won’t like the innovation; these people are used to wearing rectangular 920s, signaling to others: “I’m cool! I'm a triathlete! :) Plus the new design: the watch has become more classic, looks better on the hand and is comfortable to wear. Everyday life. In addition, you can download different watch face designs and turn your Garmin from a sports watch to a business watch and vice versa.

A modern sports watch is also a fitness tracker that tracks your every step; and a doctor who uses a built-in heart rate monitor to record every heartbeat; and a coach who conducts the lesson, analyzing the athlete’s condition. That is, you don’t have to take off this watch at all, at most you can charge it once a week. They weigh only 50 grams and are almost unnoticeable. By the way, I liked the strap - it’s very pleasant, soft, and you can’t feel it on your hand.

    First steps

Install basic settings very simple. I always prefer to leave the menu in English: the language is more concise, the words are short, nothing is “lost” in translation. The buttons have all gone to the side. There are still five of them, the functions of the buttons are as follows: 1. turn on, turn off; 2. scroll up; 3. scroll down; 4. confirm, start; 5. take a step back.

But just like new sneakers, definitely don't buy a watch the day before your big event. You need to walk around with the gadget, try out the functions you need, and get used to the buttons. And the watch also needs to get used to you in order to show the correct statistics.

To maintain your watch, it's a good idea (if not necessary) to sign up for Garmin Connect at connect.garmin.com and install the Garmin Connect app on your phone.

    Running Features

Since we are a running site, I will focus on running functions. The main mode is running outdoors with GPS.

While running, you can switch between different screens, which can be completely customized. These are timer/time, distance, pace, speed, NWP, Run Dynamics, cadence, temperature, altitude, compass, navigation.

    Operating mode withoutGPS

The watch can measure distance and show other parameters without GPS. This is especially useful in Russia with long winters, when many runners go to gyms or arenas. For this, there are “Treadmill” and “Treadmill” (indoor running) modes. In both cases, GPS is turned off and the watch works based on the built-in accelerometer - based on the movements of your hand and the whole body, the watch “guesses” your speed. I tested the accuracy of this measurement.

Running on a treadmill in the gym

I ran 5 km on the treadmill in the gym on the device screen. The watch showed 4.34 km, the distance was 660 meters less. After completing the first run, the watch asked to enter the “correct” number for calibration, after which the calibration occurred.

The next time I ran a 5-km distance again, the watch showed 6.0 km and 5.6 km, which means the distance is 1000 m and 600 m more.

The reason, I think, is that the clock has fixed average speed and that the second time I ran at a calmer = slower pace. Conclusion: 935 collects statistics even if you prefer to run on a track in winter. But be prepared for the fact that an error may occur if the pace differs from the usual average. On your first calibration run, choose your usual pace, this should help. Gradually the watch should get used to you and the error should further decrease.

    Indoor running

When you select this function, the track is not recorded, you do not see where you ran. Just like running on a treadmill, the watch uses the accelerometer to guess your distance and speed based on previous experience. I tried running in this mode several times outdoors to compare the distance measured by GPS and the Parkrun five measured by the wheel.

Parkrun wheel measured 5.00 km, with GPS watch Forerunner 935 showed 4.98 km:

At the next race, the distance measured without GPS was 4.5 km:

And a little later I returned to the distance again, ran it with two watches at the same time, 935 without GPS showed 4.64 km and 910 with GPS 5.08 km.

The second test site is the Olympic Ponds, a flat circle near the ponds with GPS showed 2.30 km.

The mode without GPS was a little underestimated for me here too - without GPS 2.18 km

And here I returned again, ran with two watches at the same time, 935 without GPS showed 2.2 km and 910 with GPS 2.29 km.

It can be assumed that, as on the track, shortcomings occur due to short use. As I said above, the watch gets used to you and the longer you use it, the higher the accuracy of measurements when used without GPS.

    Training

Before class, you can create any training options and the clock will guide you - warm-up-intervals-recovery-rest-cool-down. You can set up tracking by pace, speed or heart rate. It’s more convenient to do everything in advance simply on your computer in Garmin Connect and send it to your watch before training. This way you can have a set of workouts.

At each stage of the workout, the clock shows how much time (or distance) is left until the end of the stage and other indicators. If the data is above or below your interval, the 935 beeps. Less experienced runners run the risk of focusing more on the clock than on the workout itself. Running with your nose in the dial is dangerous :-)!

    Navigation

You can download or create any track on your watch and run in unfamiliar places.

There is no map in the watch; at forks in the roads and in general you need to navigate by the small red arrow that indicates the direction (not to be confused with the arrow that shows north!).

In addition to a specific track, you can also run in a straight line to a specific place, the location of which you have saved in advance. You can use navigation to return to the start.

For navigation there is a Navigate mode.

I also liked the Sight'N Go feature. If you want to run to some object on the horizon, you set the clock with the arrow in that direction, save it, and the clock takes you further, even if the object is not visible.

    Sports condition indicators

The watch will provide you with a stream of data that will help you track your progress. One of these indicators is VO2max.

The clock will show not only absolute values, but will also compare you to other athletes (you'll always get a detailed explanation in Garmin Connect).

Unlike its predecessors, the Garmin Forerunner 935 can test various aspects physical condition:

    – Threshold lactate level;

    – Aerobic performance;

    – Anaerobic indicators;

    – Level of training;

    – Level of training load;

    – Stress level.

A detailed description of all these functions would constitute a separate material, so let’s not digress. Everything can be found in Garmin Connect.

The watch keeps track of your personal bests...

... and make a forecast - how long it will take you to run distances from 5 km to a marathon. In my case, I am flattered. The marathon and half marathon are at the level of my personal records from many years ago :-).

Running Dynamics Pod – running dynamics data sensor

The data set can be expanded by purchasing an additional sensor that studies the behavior of your body while running.

These are stride length, running jump height = how high your body rises from the surface (vertical oscillation), the time your foot contacts the surface, and your stride rate per minute. From this we also get the Average vertical ratio = percentage of jump height to step length (the lower the percentage, the better - it is assumed that it is optimal to use your strength to move forward, not upward), balance between the right and left leg.

The device must be purchased separately; on the garmin.ru website it currently costs 8,348 rubles. You can get similar data if you have a modern chest heart rate monitor. We'll talk about the running dynamics sensor in.

    Battery

Battery performance is affected by many factors and it is very difficult to give an objective assessment. In general, I can say that the capacity is high for normal use: I charged the watch about once a week. It's good that GPS only works when you turn on the mode with GPS and after the end of the mode, GPS automatically turns off. I turned on Bluetooth only for synchronization.

    Pedometer

The watch also functions as a fitness tracker; it makes you move and walk. You get a complete analysis of your activity per day.

I wanted to check how Garmin actually measures steps, walked 1000 steps with a normal gait (the watch showed 1011 steps) and then complicated the task and walked with my hands in my pockets (the watch showed 992 steps). The accuracy is very good.

    Telephone,IQ Connect

On your phone, all your indicators are always at hand. Through a Bluetooth connection, you can turn your watch into a smart watch and receive messages from your phone on the screen. In the IQ Connect store you can download various applications, widgets, and watch faces.

The watch works with smartphones not only via Bluetooth, but also Wi-Fi networks, which is very convenient. Through an account in Garmin Connect, you can set up access to several networks (for home, fitness club, pool, playpen, etc.) and forget about synchronization - everything happens automatically as soon as you get into the network coverage area.

    Health

If you don't take off your watch at all, you will please your doctor, who can analyze the length and quality of your sleep and also your heart rate in the long term.

The 935s have a built-in heart rate sensor on the wrist, so you can track your heart at any time, without the need to purchase a chest-mounted heart rate monitor.

At the end of the day you have full set data - length and quality of sleep, how long you were on your feet (steps) or actively engaged in sports (the watch is turned on in a specific sports mode) or when you did not move at all - and how this affected your heart rate.

    Problem solving

During testing, I encountered one problem. During the running mode (without GPS and with it), the distance recording mode simply began to disappear and the dial switched to the clock. It was necessary to turn on “Run” again and catch the signal. The timer and other functions worked without failure. The problem was most likely caused by the clock widget that I downloaded earlier. This screen just “knocked out” the recording for me. Rebooting the watch helped, removing all purchased widgets and applications. Since then everything has worked 100% again.

    Conclusion

The Garmin Forerunner 935 is a true multisport watch, loaded with an almost endless number of features that will monitor your every move. Designed for demanding athletes who want to know everything about themselves. Hobbyists will most likely not find all the functions useful. But it’s nice to feel involved in a top product in its category.

The price without a chest heart rate monitor is now 47,462 rubles on the Garmin website. Together with the Running Dynamics Pod, the entire set will cost 55,810 rubles. Forerunner 935 in a package with an HRM-Tri heart rate monitor costs 60,467 rubles. The price is considerable, but now is the time to write to Santa Claus so that during the long winter evenings you can explore all the possibilities of a cool watch and show new personal records in the spring :-).

Today we have a new one for testing car navigator with 5” display – Drive 50 LMT model. Externally, the device is very similar to its counterparts, differing in display diagonal, location functional elements on the body and a set of functions.

Garmin Drive 50 is a fairly simple car navigator with features to improve driving safety and driver awareness. current situation on the roads: these are alerts about speed cameras, dangerous turns, speed bumps, railway crossings, etc. The device is equipped with a fatigue warning function during long trips, will offer drivers available rest areas or convenient stopping places.

    Garmin Drive 50 LMT Features:

The navigator, like all similar Garmin products, comes complete with City Navigator NT Russia maps, with free updates and covering the entire territory Russian Federation. The navigator is pre-installed with data from Foursquare, with information about the location of popular stores, restaurants and other objects. In addition to the Foursquare service, included Yandex traffic jam service. The photographic image function of complex junctions will allow you to prepare for the maneuver in advance and not miss the desired turn. And the lane selection function will tell you the optimal lane for driving.

The Drive 50 LMT navigator can be connected wireless camera rear view BC™ 30.

Appearance, packaging, installation in the car

Like all Garmin devices, the Drive 50 LMT is packaged in a colorful, compact cardboard box.

The navigator itself is located on top under the cover; components are located under it: a bracket with a suction cup and a ball joint, a car power supply, a USB-miniUSB cable for connecting to a computer and charging. There is no separate power supply for home use. It is assumed that the navigator will be charged in the car, and in a stationary state - through a computer. Let us immediately note that if you connect a device to a PC using a cable not included in the package, the navigator will not be recognized by the computer and a message will appear that the device cannot be charged. However, when the battery is connected via a regular USB cable large capacity, the navigator worked for several hours, although it constantly showed that its own battery was low.

The bracket with a suction cup very securely mounts the navigator on the windshield. You can adjust the angle of inclination simply by hand. On the back of the case there is a mini-USB connector. The cord from the power supply is long enough to run along the windshield frame.

The navigator body is made of dark gray plastic. The thin frame around the 5” diagonal screen does not interfere with the perception of information. Touch screen quite bright and sensitive to pressure. All controls are standard, like on tablets: touch, shift, zoom out and zoom in with two fingers.

There are practically no controls on the case, only the power button on the rear panel.

On the back of the device, in addition to the mini-USB connector, there is a connector for additional microSD memory and speaker.

Before using the device for the first time, you need to update the maps and configure it “for yourself.” We connect the navigator to the computer via Garmin program Express. We have already installed the software from previous tests, and for new owners of Garmin products, you need to go to the manufacturer’s website and download the program for free. After connecting the navigator to the computer, you need to add the device to the program. The software itself detects a new device when you click on the add button, determines its type and checks for updates.

In addition to updating maps, you can add your own car markers to display on the screen, additional languages and voices in which the device will report about the road situation.

We updated everything that Garmin Express offered - maps, firmware, additional software. The volume of updates was about 2.5 GB. After the update, the device is immediately ready for use.

We attach the navigator to the bracket and the entire structure with a suction cup on Windshield. The device can be removed from the bracket very easily; just press the bracket fastening lever and turn the device a little.

Using the Garmin Drive 50 navigator in real conditions

Before using the navigator in the car, you can further configure it, set the screen characteristics, map and vehicle parameters.

    Garmin Drive 50 Settings

    1 of 5

You can also configure traffic data sources, time, language, alerts and a number of other settings.

First of all, we decide in which version we use the navigator. If we know the road, then Drive 50 LMT can be used to control the traffic situation along the route.

The most advanced users can directly enter the coordinates of the place where they want to go.

More standard is to use the device while driving along a route. Therefore, before we set off, we set a route.

If we talk about the accuracy of the preinstalled maps, they are at a good level. When driving in the city, there are no complaints about the maps; outside the city, the map sometimes does not know the local country roads.

Finding the end point of a route is familiar to Garmin: first the country, then the city (you can do it right away), street and house. If the exact address is not known or is not indicated on the maps (dacha cooperatives, gardens), then placing a point on the map helps. We chose the destination of the route, the navigator calculated the optimal route, and we started.

Before the start, you can view data on the route: start time, approximate travel time, distance to the end point.

When leaving the route, Drive 50 LMT quickly recalculates the route and shows a new one taking into account changes in direction.

Garmin Drive 50 LMT finds navigation satellites very quickly, cold start takes a few seconds.

During testing, we noticed an interesting point. In the settings there is a function “Simulate GPS for indoors”.

The checkbox indicates the actual location, the arrow indicates the suggested location.

So, if you turn it on while driving on the road, then GPS signal disappears and the voice joyfully reports that we have arrived at our destination.

While driving along the route, the navigator can show various useful information: current speed, various obstacles on the road (speed bumps, crossings), warnings about speed limits and traffic cameras, expected time of arrival, information about the street along which the car is moving.

The right panel can change the information it displays. For example, the photo above shows the distance to public places along the route: gas stations, cafes, toilets.

Another option for the right panel is information about traffic jams from the Yandex Traffic Service.

Expected congestion and the distance to it can also be shown.

When passing a route, you can always look at it in its entirety to evaluate the correctness of the route.

The navigator allows you to search for various objects along the route or just nearby: cafes, gas stations, other addresses. If you set a home point, you can always set the route “home” with one click.

After sunset, the navigator switches to night mode.

Garmin Drive 50 LMT includes lane selection with intersection diagrams. The required lane will be marked on the diagram with bright arrows.

The navigator allows you to easily search with quick results. IN Drive device 50 LMT provides a single search field that makes it easy to search for addresses and millions of different objects. You just need to enter a category (for example, “pizza”), the full address or name, and the device will quickly display search results.

Conclusions. The Garmin Drive 50 LMT navigator will meet the buyer's expectations. This is a simple device, with intuitive clear interface to determine a route, navigate it, and search for nearby objects. The navigator lays out routes well and confidently, shows traffic jams and obstacles on the road, and allows you to estimate the expected time of arrival at your destination. Garmin Drive 50 LMT can be recommended to those drivers for whom the functionality of the smartphone + map combination is not enough.

In Moscow, you can buy a navigator for about 13,900 rubles.
