Hello! Just recently we installed our own ringtone on iPhone and, despite all the difficulties, we still managed to do it. But a person’s tastes are constantly changing - for example, I’m already tired of the song that I recently set to ringtone. I want, you know, something new!
Well, creating something new is not a problem (), but what to do with an old ringtone that is no longer needed? There are not many options - leave or delete. If left, it will take up precious internal memory. Therefore, we will delete it. And here again, with Apple, everything is not as it should be with people.
Why? Because it's not serious at all...
You can't just delete a ringtone from your iPhone. Well, there is no such option in the iPhone settings!
What then? Now I’ll tell you and show you everything. Go!
We will only consider official way(no jailbreaks or other nonsense). After all, jailbreak is practically “dead”, but this method removing ringtones will live forever :)
As usual, in order for the information to be as truthful and verified as possible personal experience, I will do all the manipulations with you.
So, I have two “extra” ringtones on my iPhone:
- Made and uploaded yourself via iTunes.
- Purchased from official iTunes store Store. The price, by the way, is 22 rubles! But for Kipelov, even “fifty dollars” is not a pity :)
Task: remove these ringtones.
Now let's go for sure!
Step 1 (connect iPhone to iTunes). There should be no problems here - we take the cable (preferably the original one), connect the iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.
Step 2 (very important point!). After launch iTunes Click on the phone image in the upper left corner.
And then, at the very bottom, check the box next to “Process music and videos manually” and click “Apply”.
Step 3 (open sound controls). We don’t go anywhere and look at the left side menu - we are interested in the “Sounds” line. Select it - a list of all ringtones that have been downloaded to your iPhone appears on the right.
Step 4 (removing ringtones). Click on any of these ringtones right click mouse, select “Remove from library” and click “Synchronize”.
All! We take the iPhone in our hands, open “Settings - Sounds, tactile signals - Ringtone” and see that this sound is no longer there. Hooray! Although...
Some problems can always arise - where would we be without them? :) And here’s what you can do if the instructions described above do not help:
- Try installing a different build of iTunes. The fact is that latest versions programs (12.7 and older) are “stripped down” - Apple has removed many functions from them. Therefore, with its help we try to remove the ringtone.
- Try to erase the sound using the same program through which it was originally downloaded to the iPhone. Because if the ringtone was set using third party program(for example, iFunBox), then iTunes may not be able to remove such ringtones.

It’s strange, but this is the second time I’ve encountered the fact that a previously purchased ringtone disappears from the iPhone 5S. It seems that in my case it is related to switching off and on mobile device.
Unlike music or movies, which you still need to try hard to delete on iOS devices, ringtones, as well as sounds and audiobooks, may well disappear without a trace. All conditions have been created for this. I don’t know what the developers were guided by, but if you go to iTunes Store on the iPhone and select “More” → “Shopping”, the displayed list of sections is, to put it mildly, surprising.
