The best hybrid headphones from Xiaomi. Technical specifications of Xiaomi Mi Piston Headphones Basic

A short review new headphones from Xiaomi - Mi Piston Air Capsule. In the review - my opinion about the new product and comparison with such popular models like Mi Piston 2 and Mi Hybrid.

The model can attract primarily with its low price, because it costs 2 times less than hybrids and second caps. On Ali, prices start at $11, on DD4 they are now selling for $9.38. I want to warn you right away that they play exactly for their price, according to at least I wasn't impressed by their sound. But let's talk about everything in order, especially since there are strengths...
The headphones are supplied in a miniature package, which was slightly wrinkled in transit. The budget is felt immediately, the savings are noticeable on everything.

They were developed jointly with 1More, as indicated on the packaging. The prototype from which the Mi Air was made is called 1More Capsule, which costs more than $50. True, they are similar only in appearance and, apart from design, essentially have nothing in common.

Let's look at the characteristics. The main ones are indicated directly on the box:
Resistance - 32 Ohm
Power - 5 mW
Cable length - 1.25 M
Microphone - yes, sensitivity 93dB
It is strange that the range of reproduced frequencies is not indicated, but if you believe the product description, then it is 20-20000Hz.

The kit includes instructions in English-Chinese and a “reminder” about correct use. The headphones have a very unusual shape, so instructions will not be superfluous. The picture clearly indicates that they should be used like regular earbuds, with the sound guide facing into the ear canal. There is no need to stuff them in like in-ear ones!

The headphones themselves are located in special niches, which protects them from damage during shipment.

The cable is compactly wound and packaged. Straight gold-plated plug, rubber or silicone braided cable. It feels more like rubber and there is a suspicion that it will harden in the cold.

The earphone has a 45-degree curved shape. In theory, this should improve sound transmission directly to the ear. In fact, the shape and structure of everyone's ears is different, so the sound can vary dramatically from person to person. On back side From the sound guide there is a capsule cap, which, resting against the auricle, straightens to the required length and secures the earphone. The fit is average, the headphones do not fall out, but there is no feeling of reliability. Although this may be out of habit, because I prefer in-ear ones.

The headphones are labeled left and right. The task of inserting them correctly, out of habit, was not an easy one; to understand whether they sat correctly, I used a mirror, i.e. there is no need to talk about convenience. Don’t forget that you can’t insert them deep, because they are not designed for that. In fact, we have something in between “liners” and “plugs”. From the first they received the ability to transmit sounds from outside world, and from the second - louder and surround sound.

In terms of sound quality, Mi Air is much inferior to any in-ear ones. The main complaint is the very small volume low frequencies. You can play around with the equalizer, but this will only partially save the situation. Compared to hybrids and second pistons, they play noticeably worse. The sound is somewhat unattractive, lacking color and power. Very similar to the sound of standard earbuds from the nearest store. I've come across reviews where people write the exact opposite, saying that only one bass plays. Well, if you push them deeper (like ordinary plugs), there really is a lot of bass, but at the same time the highs and mids are cut. This is not surprising, because headphones are not designed for wearing like this. The sound becomes similar to a subwoofer, because only low frequencies are transmitted normally.

The control unit with three buttons is made of plastic. The buttons are absolutely identical and located next to each other, but are tactilely easily recognized due to tangible boundaries. Using blindly is convenient. The microphone is sensitive and the interlocutor will hear you well.

By the way, the block with the microphone is located exactly opposite the mouth, perhaps good audibility is from here. In the same second pistons, the control unit is located much lower and you have to either speak louder or bring it to your mouth. Another point is less obvious and concerns the winter season. The Mi Air will have a microphone unit on the outside, while the Piston 2 may be located under outerwear.

Well, just took out my second caps with them and compare Mi Air. In terms of sound, the budget Mi Air completely sucks - it’s quieter, there’s much less low end, and the detailing is worse. The Mi Air wins in conversations - the second pistons are poorly suited for this, the microphone is poorly positioned, and the sound is muttering. The appearance is not an acquired taste, but I think no one will deny that metal is better and more solid than plastic. The braiding is rubber for the Mi Air, and fabric for the Pistons 2. But the price of the second caps is more than 2 times higher.

All of the above can also be attributed to hybrids. The difference in sound is colossal and it is not in favor of Mi Air. But to be honest, I like the sound of the second caps even more, so I gave the hybrids to my wife a long time ago. Mi Air was absolutely unimpressive and even a little disappointing.

Who can I recommend these headphones to? I think these are people who cannot physically tolerate “plugs” or feel discomfort from using them. These are also those who use regular earbuds. By the way, this form factor does not provide sound insulation. This is both a plus and a minus. It depends on who wants what :) You will hear the sounds of the surrounding world, but you won’t be completely immersed, and in the subway or a noisy place you need to turn the volume up to full.
In general, to summarize, I will express my subjective opinion - the headphones are poorly suited for listening to music and are more suitable for audio books, films and conversations. It is worth buying them only for the purpose of saving money and only for listeners who are undemanding in terms of sound. In any case, they play better than any cheap (comparable in price) headphones from the market/kiosk/nearest store and at the same time look nice. Perhaps they didn’t fit me physically due to the structural features of my ear, but the kit doesn’t even come with ear pads to somehow adjust them to my needs...

Tired of vacuum headphones? A good choice - they do not have the disadvantages of earbuds and do not block the ear canal.

I got acquainted with another Xiaomi headset. Design Mi Piston Air(also known as Mi Piston Air), like the Hybrid, was originally developed by the startup 1More.

Why Xiaomi headphones are better than you think

1More They produce very cool, but quite expensive headphones. Profile communities explode with praise after the announcement of each new product.

For Xiaomi, 1More engineers are simplifying their own most successful products to the extreme. A cheap, but still high-quality product is put into production.

One of the results of US-Chinese cooperation was Mi Piston Air, nee 1More Capsule/Neptune.

Design - beautiful and unusual

Each earphone consists of two halves, separated by a chrome rim.

On the inside of the headband there is a mark indicating what kind of earphone it is: right or left.

One part is an ear pad, bent at an angle of 45 degrees. The other resembles a longitudinal capsule made of soft translucent material, revealing the inner world of Mi Piston Air.

The headset has a standard length wire of 1.25 meters with conventional polymer insulation.

The right earphone cable has a control panel in a plastic case with 3 buttons (“Start/Pause”, “Volume +”, “Volume -”) and a microphone on the reverse side.

The plug is straight, from a soft touch. For iPhone you will need an adapter, the wiring does not meet the standard.

A headset for those who cannot stand vacuum in their ears

The design and construction of these headphones was an experiment in itself, combining the fit of the 1More Capsule with the Chinese vision of EarPods. "Half-channel" Xiaomi Mi Piston Air is closer to regular earplugs.

The cap is made of elastic material for a reason. This part of the earphone should rest against the ear cartilage, due to which the headphones are held in the ears without the need for a tight fit in the ear canal.

The idea is original, but the design makes sound quality and sound insulation dependent on the physical properties of the ear of a particular buyer. Moreover, There are no replacement ear pads included with the Mi Piston Air.

The Mi Piston Air does not stay firmly in the ear, although it does not fly out when walking or running. The ear pad barely fits into the ear canal, making the fit more snug - without adding to the wearing discomfort.

Form determines content

I couldn't remember any headphones with a similar fit. The closest to Xiaomi Mi Piston Air, in my opinion, are EarPods and Meizu EP-51.

All of these models suffer from mediocre sound - just like most regular in-ear headphones. Insufficient sound insulation, lack of low frequencies, problems with playback.

Low frequencies are inexpressive, details of bass instruments are difficult to discern -
a general commotion can be heard. The highs are sharp, but they lack sonority.

In the mid-range, detail is somewhat better, but also not amazing. Vocals sound inexpressive, guitars and keyboards sound unusually dry. At the same time, any instruments are distinguishable in the mix.

Similar sound quality can be observed when using Mi Piston Air as a headset: loud, intelligible, but without sparkle.

The biggest problem with the headset was the lack of high-quality sound insulation. Lack of proper fit and shallow fit allows external noise to penetrate. In transport you will have to turn the volume up to full.

No worse than EarPods

At first glance, Xiaomi Mi Piston Air was a complete failure after the popular Hybrid and Piston. But this can be noticed by a sophisticated user.

The majority of consumers will rate the Mi Piston Air above average, slightly better than standard Apple headsets. There are practically no good in-ear headphones on the market. When compared with them, Xiaomi looks advantageous: interesting design, stable fit, intelligible sound.

As a headset in this class, the Mi Piston Air is worth every dollar invested out of its $12 cost. For music lovers, Xiaomi has other headphones - Headphones Pro and Hybrid HD.

A distinctive feature of Xiaomi headphones has always been best ratio prices and quality. And in the case of headsets Chinese company this principle still counts.

The Xiaomi line of headphones includes a dozen models that differ not only in price tag, but also in form factor. Most models are represented by in-ear headphones, and the only “black sheep” among the abundance of “plugs” are the Mi Bluetooth Headset and full-size Mi Headphones in two variations.

The best hybrid headphones from Xiaomi

Xiaomi Hybrid Dual Drivers Earphones (Piston 4)

Some of the top in-ear headphones Piston series.
