Korea is ahead of the rest. What phones are there versions for?

Kim Beom Soo wishes good luck to OPSOS and rejoices at the hundred million user base.

Hello IdeaFox friends!

Today I’ll tell you about an interesting alternative to Viber, which I really liked. The fact is that Viber is an excellent service, but it also has disadvantages, which are very critical for many.

For example, many Windows 8 owners cannot install the program on their computer. Well, other complaints are also coming in: you can’t hear the interlocutor, problems at the software level, etc.

I don’t know why, but this particular program is popular in Russia. By the way, I devoted a lot of articles to such messengers, you will definitely save a bag of money :)

This note is for greedy people like me :-)

By the way, I just don’t understand why cellular operators (OPSOs) look at the situation with VOIP communications in a relaxed manner and do NOTHING. I don’t know what the top management of the opsos is thinking about, since the matter has long smelled of frying. But more on that at the end of the note.

What is Kakao Talk?

This is a program that is installed on a phone (or a computer running Windows) and allows you to communicate for free between people who also have Cocoa Talk installed:

- Send text messages;

— Other “chips”

When I first saw the program, I immediately experienced a state of déjà vu, since I had just recently reviewed Line Corporation…. It turns out that the creator of the service, Kim Beom Soo, is the former CEO of Naver.Com (Line Corporation)

I immediately wondered if they had any patent problems with the original Line? It is clear that in Korea and China they like to copy ideas, but not to the same extent :-)

However, the service was launched in 2010 and this moment has about 100 million users (!!!) all over the world. That is, we see a very powerful competitor to Viber, WhatsApp, and other minor services free communication. Moreover, it appeared literally out of nowhere and is rapidly gaining popularity.

I’ll say right away that the program is little known in Russia, but is very popular in South Korea, Indonesia, Japan and the USA.

Interesting fact: during the Japanese earthquake on March 11, 2011, the Cocoa Talk service, when cellular communications were overloaded, took over a huge share of traffic and saved many lives. The company constantly emphasizes this fact. So what? There is something to be proud of.

What will you have to pay for?

The program itself is free and you will only pay for Internet traffic. Therefore, I would recommend immediately enabling the option unlimited internet on the phone. Now all operators big three have options that cost from 5 to 20 rubles for full unlimited per day.
True, cunning cellular operators reduce the speed after a certain threshold to 64 kbit/s. For example, after 75 mb. per day the speed drops to 64 kbit/s.

What phones are there versions for?

Currently there are versions for the following operating systems:

Is there a version of Kakao Talk for PC?

Yes, there is and I checked it. It works :-) However, it does not allow you to call by voice, which is a big minus, in my opinion. In this, the program is inferior to both Viber and Line.

How to install and configure?

The algorithm is very simple:

1. Enable the unlimited internet option on your phone. I highly recommend it, otherwise, instead of saving, you will end up paying money for Internet traffic. For example, my full unlimited service from MegaFon costs 4.5 rubles per day.

2. Install on your phone (or computer) and use it :-) (see links above)

Is there a Russian version?

Unfortunately, not at the moment (August 2013). But everything is clear there even without the Russian language, I don’t see any problems for any person with an 8th grade education.

How to use?

In order not to be verbose, I recorded two short videos in which I explained everything in detail.

I recorded the video 3 weeks ago, when I did not have a normal video camera and experience, so please do not swear at the quality of the recording.

Now I bought a normal video camera and future videos will be much better in quality.

How to install on your phone:

How to install on your computer:

By the way, don't forget to subscribe to my video channel on YouTube :-)

Conclusion:

I repeat, the service is good and all that... But in Russia it is hopelessly inferior to competitors in the form of Skype, Viber and WhatsApp. It only makes sense to use it as an alternative for those for whom one of the three programs listed above does not work.

And yet, I reviewed CocoaTalk, because the more similar services, the better for us. Why? Yes because the prices are cellular communication outrageously OVERPRICED. I read somewhere that marginality mobile operators in Russia it reaches 80% (!!!).

Sooner or later, cellular communications will die out under the pressure of Internet messengers. Now this statement sounds a little wild, but I am absolutely sure of it, and I give it to the traditional mobile communications another 10-15 years. Already, young people are closely connected to these services and have no intention of leaving them ANYWHERE.

Kim Beom Soo is simply happy with the inertia of top managers of cellular companies :-)

Financiers will immediately be touched by this value, but I shuddered, since only oil-producing structures have similar margin indicators. In fact, we overpay several times per minute of communication... and why should I do this? I don’t want to pay 7-8 times more for the service, because I think this arrangement is indecent.
And I advise you :-)

Read and save on mobile communications:

  1. — there I talk about many wonderful programs that will save you a lot of money!

This article will talk about a good alternative to large messengers - KakaoTalk. Other messengers are, of course, quite good programs, but some of them have critical shortcomings. Because of them, users refuse to use them, but also make communication more enjoyable. For example, some instant messengers do not allow installation on Windows 7, 8 and 10. Users also complain about poor communication quality, poor audibility, and errors that occur at the software level.

Kakao Talk on the Russian market

In Russia, Kakao Talk is just beginning to gain momentum. But she already has her own fans. Despite the fact that the service was launched only in 2010, approximately 100 million users have already registered with it! Thus, it can create good competition for such large messengers as Viber, WhatsApp.

Exists remarkable fact: when the earthquake occurred in spring in Japan, mobile network turned out to be overloaded. The KakaoTalk service received most of the traffic to the servers. Thanks to this, a huge number of lives were saved.

Advantages

As already mentioned, KakaoTalk can be installed not only on a phone, but also on a computer with various operating systems: Windows OS, MAC OS, Linux. This program is designed for free communication between people. With its help, you can exchange text messages, call each other, in addition, it has many other functions that you will find if you install Kakao Talk for your computer.

Program functions

Let's take a closer look at the messenger's functions:

  1. The main function is to send messages to friends with an unlimited number of characters.
  2. The second main function is a voice call, thanks to which you can talk to a friend while in completely different parts of the planet.
  3. It is also possible to send photos and videos directly from your smartphone or computer, although they arrive in compressed format. But the interlocutor may not wait for the download, but instantly upload a photo of your favorite cat. But video recording suffers to a lesser extent. Compression has virtually no effect on quality.
  4. There is a voice recording function available. You can write down, for example, a Happy New Year greeting and send it to your entire contact list. Geotags can also be noted as useful little things.

KakaoTalk in Russian can be downloaded completely free of charge. Using this program You only need to pay for traffic. The content of the program costs a large amount, so the creators make a profit from the sale of emoticons and themes that are present in large quantities. It is fair to say that the prices are quite low. And sometimes you can afford to buy something.

In conclusion, it can be noted that the messenger makes you fall in love with it the first time you use it. The program contains light themes. The controls are quite convenient and not too complicated. A huge number of functions will not let you get bored. And calls from high quality They'll just drive you crazy!

How to Russify KakaoTalk?

How to correctly KakaoTalkm, KakaoTalk, KakaoTalk?

KakaoTalk communication application, created by Kakao for large number platforms. On the official website you can download versions for Android and iOS, as well as for PC and Mac. On our website you can download KakaoTalk for free if you have a tablet or phone with Android OS on board.

The program allows you to communicate one-on-one, organize group chats, post and transmit multimedia files, and also insert funny animated stickers into the text - images of living creatures that demonstrate your mood at the time of correspondence. Using KakaoTalk you can track interesting offers from various companies, participate in sales, make purchases in online stores, and also give gifts to friends (they can be purchased in the developer company’s store).

This service has become quite popular; in any case, more than a hundred million KakaoTalk users are proof of this. I don’t know what exactly played a big role in the popularization of KakaoTalk - the pleasant yellowish-brown color scheme, or the presence of clients for most platforms, but the service has really grown. Perhaps it’s a matter of smart marketing policy, but most likely it’s the need of users to stop paying money for SMS.

The topic of avoiding the fees that cellular operators have been imposing on subscribers for at least twenty years has almost been resolved. About five years ago, the first services began to appear that allowed you to send text messages for free or very cheaply. The cost of sending one message, which arrives in the same time as SMS messages, has fallen to a record high.

Millions of users joined the race to save money and stopped sending SMS in the usual way, as well as make calls via cellular channels. And, if five years ago such services were a novelty, now anyone can choose from a huge number of paid, shareware, and absolutely free services, allowing you to communicate using a smartphone and a network connection.

The program interface looks the same on both smartphones and tablets. On smartphones, the interface follows the design of QIP and ICQ, and on tablets, the KakaoTalk program looks the same as on personal computer, in the form of a vertical strip window with a list of contacts. It's a bit like a Twitter client, but it doesn't support that service yet.

Perhaps over time the developers will come to their senses and implement support social networks, which are not yet available in the KakaoTalk client. But there is a rare feature - the ability to organize voting in a group. Imagine how convenient it is to gather everyone who is going on a picnic and offer a choice of several places for it? Same thing. KakaoTalk can be very useful if you like it with its fun design and set of functions. By the way, Kakao has developed several other communication applications, and they are all available for download on the company's official website.

If you haven't saved up for an expensive smartphone, don't worry. The KakaoTalk program will also work on Chinese fakes, and on copies famous brands, and on original smartphones last generation. She won't stake much random access memory, and will not throttle the processor, even if it has only one core. KakaoTalk consumes almost no resources and only requires a stable connection to the network. Unfortunately, the Russian version of KakaoTalk has not yet been released, but we have information that the program will soon support many languages. Follow our website for news and updates.

The World Wide Web provides huge opportunities for communication. Social networks have been replaced by multifunctional messengers that allow you not only to send messages and various files, but also make calls, significantly reducing the cost of cellular communications. This time, developers from South Korea have expanded the line of email clients. You can get acquainted with the new product by downloading Kakaotalk for your computer.

Korea is ahead of the rest

KakaoTalk is a shining example of the success of a small company. The author of the application was the talented Korean Kim Bum-soo, who created the most popular messenger in South Korea. Today, this application is used by 95% of the population in South Korea, and multilingual support ensures its triumphant march around the world.

After installation, the client will be asked to go through a simple registration procedure. The program uses your phone number as a login; after creating a profile, it will begin automatic detection contacts from phone book with Kakaotalk installed in Russian. All found contacts with installed application will be placed in the “Friends” tab, after which you can start a dialogue with any user.

Functional

Korean developers have pleased us with its surprisingly wide functionality, which instantly won the love of users.

  • Message exchange. The messenger allows you to send not only text messages, but also multimedia files. At the same time, the length and “weight” of the information sent are not limited. A separate advantage was automatic compression: the program itself will reduce the size of a photo or video to save traffic without losing image quality. You can record a video just before sending it without saving it to the gallery. The function of sending a profile from a chat and geolocation marks is also available.
  • The ability to animate messages using numerous emoticons.
  • Supports group chats with an unlimited number of participants. Many instant messengers set limits on the number of people, but this client is the opposite - it allows you to invite any number of participants to the conversation.
  • Calls. You can make a call without interrupting communication. Just click on the appropriate button and the application will automatically start dialing the user’s number. There is also a touch of humor - the built-in utility allows you to change your voice when making a call. To do this, in the main window there are two icons with images of a dog and a cat - when you click on any of them, your voice will resemble the voice from popular cartoons.
  • Supports all popular platforms and great job on 3G/4G and Wi-Fi networks.

Advantages and disadvantages

The ever-growing popularity of Cocoa on the computer is ensured by:

  • Cross-platform.
  • Multilingual support. The application is available in 15 languages and the creators are constantly expanding this list.
  • Lots of interface settings and several background themes.
  • A variety of emoticons, both regular and animated.
  • Unlimited number of participants in a group chat.
  • Availability large quantity filters for photo editing.
  • Built-in organizer that allows you to plan your day and create reminders.
  • Possibility of private settings for personal photo albums.
  • Free distribution.

The application has not yet discovered any significant flaws. The disadvantages include:

  • Inability to import contacts from other instant messengers.
  • Availability of monetization. If you want completely original emoticons (lots of cats, pink ponies and Chinese-Korean cartoon characters) or design themes, you’ll have to go to the store. This does not affect the client’s functionality in any way; it’s up to you to spend money or not.
  • Rarity. Despite its popularity all over the world, the program has not yet become widespread in Russia, so it is unlikely that most of your friends are on the list of happy users.

How to run Kakaotalk on PC

Installing Kakaotalk on PC doesn't require much effort. The procedure is as simple as possible:

  1. Download and install the emulator.
  2. Once launched, the emulator will send you to Play Market, where you need to enter the name of the program in the search bar.
  3. Select the one you need from the list of results and click “Install”.
  4. We are mastering the “miracle creation” of Korean developers.
  • QQ. Product Chinese company Tencent. From functional features- video, audio and text messages, the ability to make calls, create your own profile, geolocation and invite friends. Free emoticons It’s quite small, photo editing is impossible, and the application also contains constant advertising and bugs. QQ is quite popular in China, but in the global market it still remains in the middle of the rating table.
  • IM+ Pro. One of the most sophisticated messengers. The main feature is the ability to connect almost all social networking services, linking several favorite services into one. Sends all types of media files, including - voice recordings from the microphone. Of the minuses - free version limits the time spent in push mode; in the paid version there is no such restriction.

System requirements

Cross-platform of this client allows it to work successfully on most platforms and systems, so Cocoa is good for Windows and any Windows OS is suitable. In addition to the operating system you will need BlueStacks emulator and an Internet connection for installation and launch.

Results and comments

The messenger instantly makes you fall in love with it. Light colors, smooth color transitions, clear interface and variety of functions - such a “set” does not leave anyone indifferent.

The absence of bugs, multi-language support, a lot of settings and cross-platform functionality have made the application a leader among South Korean products and confidently bring it to a leading position in the world rating of “mail” clients.

In general, feel free to download Kakaotalk for your computer and always stay in touch with your friends!

It may be hard to imagine that in South Korea, a country with over 100 percent mobile penetration, the smartphone first appeared only in late 2009. So don't be too surprised that the most popular smartphone app, used on 93% of these devices, is . However, the total number of KakaoTalk is almost 3 times the entire population of Korea. More than 130 million people were registered in December 2013.

The service automatically syncs a user's contact list from their smartphones to their KakaoTalk contact list to find friends. Users can also search for friends using KakaoTalk ID without knowing each other's phone number. The service also allows users to export their messages and save them for later use.

In the mists of Internet heritage.

It all started in December 2006, before smartphones existed. This was a favorable time for the creation of new companies by people such as Kim Bum Soo and Jae-Beom Lee.

Kim Bum Soo worked for NHN Corporation, which operates the world's largest popular internet portal in South Korea - Naver. He held the position general director NHN USA, and previously was the founder and CEO of Hangame, a successful gaming industry firm that merged with Naver.com to form NHN Corporation. After leaving there, he founded a company called Innovation With Internet Lab (IWILAB).

From 2006 to 2009, IWILAB created the bookmarking site Buru.com and Wisia.com. Unfortunately, none of them were successful.

When the smartphone launched in South Korea in 2009, the company desperately grabbed the chance to create its new and last innovative product. Kakao co-managing director Sirgoo Lee said of that time: “We decided to make one last push before we closed the company.”

3 teams were created to develop three different applications for smartphone. The first was a public communication service similar to Twitter, called Sudo, which means chat in Korean. The second was called Agit, which means shelter in Korean, and was intended for private group communication. The third was a group chat, multi-user service called KakoTalk.

Kakao old version

The KakaoTalk service name is unique and has its own history. The founders of Kakao hoped that their services would give people and their loved ones an improved quality of life. So the team settled on chocolate, but decided not to call it that, because they thought it wouldn’t work. So they chose the key element of chocolate, the cocoa bean, and from there they took the word cocoa.

After 2 months of launching the three services, it became obvious that KakaoTalk was the most popular, so the company abandoned the other two services and focused solely on KakaoTalk.

As Sirgu said, users especially liked Lee group chat. There was also such a feature that if, for example, a letter was sent to people, then accordingly, then it is shown how many people did not read it. This feature is still quite typical among other similar services.

After a good start, the company added a number of others interesting features, which attract many more other users in a short period of time. For example, changing the font parameter and size, the ability to edit individual rooms and animated emoticons. These features were popular among users mainly because they were suggested by users themselves.

Mr Lee said: “We truly develop the service with our users in mind, constantly listening to their needs.” This has been the main principle for the service from the very beginning and is one of its greatest strengths now.

KakoTalk began expanding its services back in 2010, releasing its first non-chat service, a gift store, in December of that year. The following year, KakaoStory appeared in March 2012, followed by KakaoGame in June.

The gift shop at Kakao marks the next step in the company's history. Because instead of money, a special coupon is used here that can be given to a friend, and he can exchange it, for example, for a cup of coffee, jewelry, a T-shirt or ice cream.

KakaoStory allows you to share photos, albums. Photos can be edited and also viewed by friends in news style. Thanks to its intuitive design user interface it can be used by people of all ages. And in just 3 days from the date of its appearance, KakaoStory received 5 million users, and after 9 days there were already 10 million.

The emergence of KakaoGame was a good step for the company, because... just 2 months after the launch of this service in July 2012, Kakao began to make a profit for the first time. KakaoGame allows groups of people to collaborate and compete at the same time. For example, your friends who also play games can send you items that make it easier and more fun to play.

As Sirgu Lee said: “In just 1.5 to 2 years after launching KakaoGame, revenue was over $1 billion.”

The present

KakaoTalk Plus Friend

KakaoTalk currently has over 140 million users worldwide, with the company set to go public in 2015 with 550 employees. The company believes that its guiding principles and unique corporate culture are the key to success. “We think it's very important to maintain the culture where we encourage free communication, which has worked quite well to this day,” says Sirgu Lee.

In Korea's Confucian-based culture, which emphasizes hierarchy and unequal relationships, Kakao stands out as a champion of an open work culture. What even employee offices illustrate is that they are open, with large tables, no dividers or closed spaces. For example, director Sirgu Lee sits just a few tables behind PR manager Sonya Im. In addition, each employee has a middle name on English language, by which other employees contact him. This is done to bypass respectful communication.

It’s true that it takes some time for new employees to get used to such a culture, but once people get used to it, they begin to value freedom of communication. The founders of Kakao believe that this type working environment stimulates innovative activity.

Communication is also encouraged through the Agit internal communication system, which is a web forum where everyone in the company can see comments from other teams. This is feedback and allows employees to find out how other company employees work.

Kakao apps are currently divided into 4 categories. It is a social platform, a content platform, a trading and marketing platform.

As described on the company's website, the social platform is the main asset for Kakao. It consists of KakaoTalk, KakaoStory and KakaoGroup and these are the basis for other platforms. Thanks to the tight integration of social networks with mobile services these services have attracted high traffic. These assets are the initiators of the development of a mobile social platform that allows not only the exchange of everyday life, but also valuable information. Kakao continues to experiment with new social platforms, such as KakaoGroup, making users' lives more convenient and better.

The content platform includes KakaoGame, KakaoMusic and KakaoPage. Through them, users can now share and enjoy music, books, comics and games with their friends and loved ones. KakaoGame offers over 380 different titles. Through music sharing services in KakaoMusic and digital content sharing in KakaoPage, Kakao continues to expand mobile content ecosystems to provide more choice for its users.

The trading platform, according to Kakao representatives, combines e-commerce and mobile messages. Gift shop in Kakao introduced new trend consumption, providing not only various household items, but also personal expressions of friendship or love in the form of gift coupons. The range of offers now allows you to receive, in addition to coupons for food and drinks, also for cosmetics, digital equipment and items household items. Coupons that the user can conveniently send via KakaoTalk. KakaoStyle - the new kind ecommerce, which opened for users new channel mobile commerce for online shopping centers, and created a unique approach to mobile shopping, allowing users to exchange opinions and information about products with friends.

Finally the marketing platform Plus Friends and Brand Emoticons. It departs from the usual intrusive advertising methods. Kakao offers a new kind of marketing that is informative, interesting and optimized for mobile devices. Plus Friends allows you to receive exclusive news and various updates from companies, brands, and pop stars of interest at your own request. Brand Emoticons offers interesting way increase brand awareness by distributing branded emoticons that can be used by users, making communication more fun.

Letting users choose the future

Kakao is looking to expand its horizons to the rest of Asia this year. The company began full-fledged work in the new markets of Southeast Asia in the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia through an aggressive marketing strategy. These efforts have been met with positive results in these countries. For example, in Indonesia the growth was more than 120,000 subscribers per day.

Cocoa effectively uses mass marketing and localization as key strategies when entering new markets. For example, by attracting one of the most popular Korean groups BigBang or one of the stars to its side, which allows the company to be more recognizable in the eyes of users.

Sirgu Lee Director of KakaoTalk

When Sirgo Li was asked what would happen next, he replied that “The service has always developed based on customer opinions. So we don't know what will happen next. KakaoTalk started as a messaging service and is now a mobile platform with a variety of different content, be it music, games, etc. Therefore, it is difficult to predict something, but I think there are still many things that users would like to share with each other. So there is no limit to innovation.”
