When will Galaxy Note 7 come out? Why do batteries explode?

After reading our Samsung galaxy note 7 64 GB review, you will find out what the sensational new product from famous brand. The diagonal of the smartphone is quite large - 5.7 inches, but at the same time it fits well in the hand. Large devices rarely boast of this; they can easily be dropped from your hands. In addition, today the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is considered one of the most powerful smartphones around the world, but its disadvantages include its high cost.

The new model feels even more comfortable in the hand than the Galaxy S7 edge, and all because the curved parts of the display have become much narrower. Also, additional bends on the back side had a positive effect on ergonomics. The dimensions of the device are optimal, it is convenient to perform any tasks. The body is protected from water, so it can be safely submerged to shallow depths for underwater photography.

The smartphone has few disadvantages, but they do exist. First of all, this is the soiling of the case, which quickly becomes covered with fingerprints. It is also not recommended to drop it, because repairing the back panel will deprive you of 4,000 rubles, and the display costs 23-25 thousand rubles, and this does not include work. Samsung galaxy note 7 price in Russia is about 60,000 rubles. If you want to become the owner of the most powerful to date mobile device, then you will have to allocate a large budget for its acquisition.

Fingerprint scanner

As before, it is integrated into the Home key located below the display. Operation occurs quickly, and most importantly, without error. The scanner is convenient to use even in a car holder or when the device is lying on the table. If the sensor were installed at the back, it would not be so convenient to use.

Stylus

After reading the Samsung galaxy note 7 review in Russian, you will understand that a lot of work was done on the stylus. The manufacturer has equipped it with new features and characteristics. For example, it has become much thinner. If in Note 5 its thickness at the end was 1.5, then in new version only 0.7 mm. Sensitivity has increased to 4096 degrees, which is double the previous figure. As a result, it has become easier to create pictures, as well as work with texts and applications. The stylus is stored in the phone compartment provided for this purpose, which is very convenient.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone design

The design has remained virtually unchanged compared to other seventh-generation models: the manufacturer used glass on the front and back, and the frame is made of high-quality metal. The glasses are bent equally in relation to the metal frame, and therefore the device turned out to be symmetrical. The IP68 water protection class allows you to lower the device for 30 minutes into water to a depth of no more than 1.5 meters without any consequences. The stylus will allow you to control the device when it is underwater.

While reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, we noticed that the manufacturer went for innovation. This model uses a connector USB Type-C, which will begin to be installed on most smartphones in 2017. The layout of the main keys is approximately the same as in the S7 Edge. The only thing is that there is an additional S-Pen stylus. The Home key has undergone changes, which is now set deeper in the frame and almost does not protrude from the body. This minimizes the chance of damage to the scanner. If you look at top panel, then you can find a new window - an iris scanner.

This is a new level of protection that significantly increases the security of the gadget and the data stored on it. The user only needs to add his eyes in the parameters once, and upon subsequent use, the device will be unlocked by scanning them, which it can perform even in pitch darkness. The response is especially fast if you look directly at the sensor. This interesting solution, but it is unlikely to become very popular, because most users only need a fingerprint scanner.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 screen

The Samsung galaxy note 7 phone is designed using the new Gorilla Glass 5 and a different shape of curves on the sides. This is the main difference from previous models, due to which the smartphone has become much more comfortable to use than the S7. There are practically no false clicks, the device is comfortable to hold even in one hand. Other Samsung galaxy note 7 characteristics have remained almost unchanged: display resolution - Quad HD and high-quality matrix Super AMOLED. The image is clearly readable in the sun if you set the optimal brightness settings or activate auto-tuning. Using a smartphone produces only positive impressions. It's safe to say that this is one of the best screens on modern technology.

Cameras Samsung Galaxy Note 7

The cameras remain the same - this is the main 12 megapixel (f1.7), optical image stabilization function and shooting in 4k resolution, as well as an additional 5 megapixel, supporting the ability to shoot videos in 1440p. The quality of photographs is no different from other new products from the manufacturer. Example You can see the photos below. The changes have affected the standard camera application itself. As a result, it has become one of the best among all modern gadgets.

Eat a large number of settings that you can manually adjust to improve the quality of your photos. The new application is the closest thing to anything like this in the Huawei P9. Clicking on the left side of the display displays available modes shooting, and on the right - a variety of filters. Settings are called up by clicking on the corresponding icon. The bottom swipe switches between the main and secondary cameras.

Specifications Samsung Galaxy Note 7

The battery capacity remained unchanged - 3500 mAh, and therefore you can expect a slight decrease in autonomy, because the display has become larger than in other models in the series. On board the smartphone is an Exynos 8890 processor or Snapdragon 820, 4 GB of RAM, and 64 GB of internal memory. Flash drives can be installed with a capacity of up to 2 TB, although such ones are not even produced at the moment. There are no problems with performance, everything works smoothly and without the slightest hint of brakes.

The battery will last for a day of use. Among interesting features It is worth noting the presence of a protected folder in which you can hide confidential data that other users should not see. And in the settings there is now an optimization item. In the top curtain, clicking on each item brings up a drop-down menu. An excellent job was done, making the smartphone one of the most technologically advanced on the market.

Your rating is important to us:

Today we will talk about a serious dinosaur in the world of smartphones - the new flagship Samsung Galaxy Note 7. How is the smartphone different from the S7 Edge and Note 5? In fact, many: display, glass, Type C, cameras and much more.
Of course, a lot has changed since the release - Note 7 began to explode and catch fire here and there, the company recalled all sold and released smartphones, released a patch allowing charging to a maximum of 60% and suffered huge monetary and reputational losses.

Equipment

The package includes the smartphone itself, a headset, an adapter from USB Type C to microUSB, a Fast Adaptive Charge charger with USB Type C, a Type C to USB adapter, a paper clip and instructions.

The headset is packaged separately, sounds good, has control keys and a microphone. Our smartphone came with a UK plug and was charged via an adapter and Type C charger from another smartphone.

Appearance

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 received a recognizable design of the line of sevens: a body in the form of a large rectangle made of glass and metal.

Both panels in the model are made of protective glass, and the frame around the body is made of aluminum.

It is worth noting that the smartphone not only has slightly rounded corners, but the panels themselves seem to “flow” into the frame. The solution comes from the Edge series smartphones and looks really stylish.

The front side is almost completely occupied by a 5.7-inch display, as I already said, as if “pouring out” over the edges of the smartphone. The arrangement of elements is standard: above the screen is the company logo, a 5 MP front camera lens, an alert indicator, a speaker and an IRIS sensor.

It is enough to scan your eyes and retina once for the device to recognize them even in the dark. It works instantly; when looking directly at it, it works very quickly. This is an excellent feature as an additional level of protection for your smartphone.

At the bottom there is one control key, and also a fingerprint scanner, as well as two backlit touch keys.

On the back of the panel there is another Samsung logo, and above it is the main camera lens, framed by a thin border and slightly extending beyond the panel. Next to it is an LED flash.

At the bottom end there is a 3.5mm audio output, USB Type C, a speaker grille and a stylus hidden in the case.

Note 7 has only 4 color options, but only three will be supplied to Russia - silver (we tested), black and gold.

The ergonomics of the device are pleasant - it is comfortable to hold in your hand, it does not seem big or thick, and thanks to the absence of side frames, the smartphone is only slightly larger than a standard five-inch smartphone.

The design, compared to the 5th version of Note, has certainly improved, taking all the pleasant features from the new flagships.

There are no problems with the size - it is slightly larger than a standard five-inch smartphone with frames.

Screen

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 received a 5.7-inch display with Quad HD resolution 2560x1440 pixels and pixel density 518 ppi. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 - there are no significant changes in the glass, drop resistance has been slightly improved, but otherwise the strength remains the same.

The Super AMOLED matrix provides the screen with wide viewing angles. The brightness is enough to read information in bright sunlight, the pictures are clear, the color rendition is as close to natural as possible.

Despite the absence, as such, of edges on the smartphone display, it is convenient to use, there are no accidental startups or openings of programs, the side end and rounding do not react to the pressed palm.

Like the S7, the “Always on” operating mode is supported, showing the date, time and notifications, not only system ones, but also from applications.

The Note 7 display is considered the best on the market, but even this density and resolution is not enough for glasses virtual reality.

S Pen

The electronic pen also did not go unnoticed; Samsung has improved the S-Pen, making its tip thinner - 0.7 mm versus 1.6, and also more sensitive to touches: recognizing up to 4000 degrees of pressure (previously 2 thousand).

This may be of interest to those who draw, since the 5.7-inch screen makes it suitable for use as a small graphics tablet.
It is now possible to make a GIF image from any zone: in a video, in a photo, or even in the interface.

The S-Pen can be used as magnifying glass, in order to take a screenshot, create a note, etc. You can even add a new item to the stylus tasks yourself. Over time, many tasks when using Note 7 are actually more convenient and enjoyable to do with the stylus; you quickly get used to it.

For example, taking a screenshot of a certain area takes a lot of time on any device without additions to the firmware - you need to do full screenshot and then edit the image by cutting out the area. Of course, a pen is not always needed, but it doesn’t interfere.

Cameras

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 has a 12 megapixel lens as the main camera with dual LED flash and optical image stabilization. Video recording occurs at 4K resolution.

The front camera has a 5 MP resolution and records video at 1440p resolution.
Shots taken in daylight are distinguished by natural color reproduction and high detail. There are no problems with focus detection, pixelation, blurring, etc.

Pictures in dark time days thanks to the 1.7 aperture (the recently introduced iPhone has 1.8) we were pleased with its high quality: no noise, no blurring grey colour. The front camera is also suitable for video conferencing and for taking fairly high-quality self-portraits.

The pictures easily compete with both camera phones and smartphones with the now popular technology of using two cameras.

Iron

As a processor for all countries except the US, the Galaxy Note 7 comes with an Exynos 8893 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal memory, expandable up to 256 GB using a microSD card.

The hardware completely replicates the “internals” of the Samsung S7 Edge, the performance is high, and the smartphone copes with everyday tasks quickly and without freezing.
Heavy games launch without delay.

There are no complaints about the operation of the device: an ideal ratio of characteristics, no fanaticism about the amount of memory, for example, here.

The battery capacity is 3500 mAh, which with a larger display should cause the battery to drain faster. But nevertheless, the smartphone is enough for a whole day of moderate use without recharging.

In our test, the smartphone lasted 10 and a half hours at 50% brightness level and Wi-Fi turned on. Quite a decent result.

Of course, according to good smartphone it was necessary to test it in field conditions, but when we were given the device, the first reports of fires became more frequent, I did not risk myself and the people around me, but ideally, the device would, of course, need to be tested in standard daytime load mode: reading and subway games with on SIM card- precisely on trying to catch the net in difficult conditions Samsung devices previous generations lost a lot of energy.

Software

Galaxy Note 7 runs under Android control 6.0.1 Marshmallow with updated TouchWiz (Grace UI) with many new features and changes. The icons and the order of items in the curtain have changed, and the settings of all items available for control directly from the curtain have been expanded.

As before, there is a theme store, there is an option to change theme icons and wallpapers, separately from the first one. Of course, there are very few good sets that have not only standard, but also custom icons.

One of the interesting changes is the creation of a protected folder into which you can transfer content that is not subject to public viewing, for this purpose we expanded the functionality of the KNOX system. One of interesting features- the ability to install any duplicate application, for example, a second VKontakte or Telegram, into such a protected folder. The use of such technology is quite simple to come up with, and it will certainly find its fans.

Fires

The number of explosive jokes about the Note 7 has bothered even meme lovers, and this requires a lot of effort. Almost all YouTubers joked about how hot the Note 7 is. And this is certainly not to Samsung's advantage. Of course, there were cases of phone fires before, but in Note 7 they became widespread, albeit not large.

What is known now?

  • There is a small batch of devices, up to 5000 pieces, that have a battery defect.
  • Batch of devices and their serial numbers known, but Samsung is recalling all devices worldwide.
This situation happens quite often in the world of auto manufacturers: for example, technician Vasya spent a week assembling a car and installed the brakes incorrectly, which stopped braking after a thousand pedal presses. Don't even go too far from batteries, one of TESLA's first batches had cars that could catch fire due to battery problems, but who remembers that now?

This is the first time such a major situation has occurred with smartphones; Samsung's PR service initially reported that sales had been stopped due to the incredible number of pre-orders. A day later, another release came out: sales stopped due to problems with the battery and fire cases.

But is what is happening now so critical?
Fire incidents occur only in the United States and South Korea and do not concern the rest of the world.
There have been problems with smartphones before: smartphones did not connect to the network and were easily bent.
Smartphones do not explode, but rather get very hot and begin to smoke, this can be seen in videos from surveillance cameras of cases, of course, in some cases this can lead to a fire.

History, like any news story, will soon be forgotten. The main thing now is not to repeat the mistakes and not allow anything bad to happen. Of course, the reputation is damaged, there is a loss in the value of the shares and money will have to be spent on returns and overproduction, but do not forget that Samsung is a giant corporation that can afford to produce smartphones that light up at least every six months.

Samsung caused the main headache for themselves - for some reason they decided to recall all smartphones. Although the problem occurs with 0.3% of devices. They did not immediately admit the problem and tried to twist the situation into their own hands. They have been releasing firmware for a long time with a limit on the charging percentage. Knowing a specific batch, they do not update the firmware and do not remotely turn off devices that could be harmful to health.

This is probably a problem for a large corporation - the management vertical simply does not allow for a quick response to such situations. Let's hope that the incident will force management to think about solving such rapidly emerging problems. Otherwise, the company is doing well and they know how to make smartphones.

Let's sum it up

The smartphone is very similar to the Samsung S7 Edge, however, there are minor changes related to display size, battery capacity, the appearance of an iris scanner, etc. This is something between the S7 and the future S8, a kind of slightly open curtain showing us what Samsung is working on.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will obviously find its buyer; it has a good design, nice and reliable body materials, high performance - everything that justifies the high price of the flagship. Of course, it will be difficult to clear the soot from the reputation of a burning smartphone, and a number of users will change their smartphone, but the general mass, who, like me, were lucky enough to face only the threat of fire, will change their smartphone and forget that this ever happened.

Enchanted, bewitched

A typical review of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in Western media begins with a headline that forces you to look for the “sponsored material” or “published as an advertisement” mark on the page. "Best New Android Phone" (Joanna Stern, The Wall Street Journal), "Best beautiful phone ever created" (Steve Kovacs, Business Insider) " Best smartphone on the planet, period" (Raymond Wong, Mashable), "Best big phone" (Dan Siefert, The Verge), "Perhaps the most complete smartphone ever made" (Napier Lopez, The Next Web, "Sleaker, simpler, better than ever" (Chris Velasco, Engadget), "The most "sexy phone with a big screen" (Jessica Dolcourt, CNET)

But a note about what it is native advertising, is not found anywhere. We are faced with either a general conspiracy, or, more likely, the smartphone really - and this is the first time in the history of the Note line, traditionally criticized for its inconvenience, “bells and whistles for the sake of bells and whistles” and ugly design - was really liked by the majority of reviewers.

Previous models of the Note line were not particularly elegant. Photo by CNET

Even those who right in the title declare that the Note 7 “falls short of perfection” immediately call the new phablet “phenomenal” (Evan Spence, Forbes). In response to my request to name the three main disadvantages of the Note 7, in addition to the high price, Dan Siefert, senior editor of The Verge and author of the phablet review smog give only one - "If you don't like big phones, this will probably be too big for you too."

Big but small

By the way, most of my colleagues disagree with Siefert on this. Journalists note that the Galaxy Note 7 looks and feels much more compact in the hand than any smartphone with a 5.7-inch screen before it. "The Galaxy Note 7 combines the phablet form factor with the cool looks of the Galaxy S7... it doesn't feel gigantic in your hand... and fits quite comfortably in pants pockets," writes TechCrunch columnist Brian Heater.

The Note 7 and S7 are not as different in size as you might expect. Photo by Engadget

"I like the rounded edges of the screen and how it reduces the size. Compared to the bezel of a 5.5-inch iPhone screen"The 6s Plus looks like the wide paper frames of an amusement park postcard," notes WSJ's Joanna Stern. It's not surprising: samsung smartphone, The Verge's Siefert calculated, is 4.7mm shorter and 4mm narrower than the .

The body is rounded at the edges, like the S7 edge, but the Note 7 has symmetrical curves on the front and back. Photo by TechCrunch

Chris Velasco from Engadget noted that the Note 7 body is symmetrically rounded on both the screen side and the rear panel. According to his observations, thanks to this, the device fits into the hand in such a way that accidental pressing of the screen with the base of the thumb, which is common with the Galaxy S7 edge, does not occur. “This is a big phone that doesn’t seem big,” the journalist concludes.

Great screen, suspicious glass

The 5.7-inch display of the Galaxy Note 7 (SuperAMOLED technology, resolution 1440 x 2560 pixels, 518 ppi) also received praise - quite bright (although, according to AnandTech measurements, it does not set records for this parameter), with saturated, but precisely calibrated colors.

Joshua Ho from AnandTech recommends choosing Basic from the many color modes - not only does it provide more realistic colors, it also saves battery. And he notes: “The display calibration is almost impossible to distinguish from ideal.” An additional bonus is a blue light filter feature similar to Night Shift in iOS 9.3 and a similar feature coming in .

The Note 7's screen also supports HDR content, video in which each pixel is encoded at 10 bits rather than 8, delivering more smooth transitions colors and wider dynamic coverage of the picture (details are better developed in both very dark and very light areas). True, HDR video is still rare, with the exception of a couple of series available on Netflix.

But the glass protecting the screen raised questions. Note 7 is the first smartphone to feature fifth-generation Corning Gorilla Glass. The glass manufacturer insists that the glass has become less brittle and is 80% likely not to crack when dropped onto concrete from a height of 1.6 m. However, YouTube user JerryRigEverything is successful scratched The Note 7 screen is a tool of relatively low hardness, which is not able to damage the surface of Gorilla Glass 4.

Corning explained that, most likely, the soft cutter left not a scratch on the surface of the glass, but a trace - metal particles. Main question, which still remains unanswered - whether this mark can be removed with improvised means, or if the Note 7, when used without a case, will soon be covered with such marks from “soft” keys, coins and other objects found in pockets.

S Pen

Without the stylus, the S Pen Note would no longer be a Note, but just another big smartphone. The Note 7's pen is thinner, including the tip, and more sensitive. Now it is impossible to break it by inserting it with the wrong end, and at the end there is a button for (neurotic) clicking (the element has no other functions - just to make it look like a real pen).

Digital pen S Pen. Photo by Engadget

Stern claims that she heroically wrote the entire WSJ review on the Note 7 with a stylus, not because it was convenient (it took twice as long as typing the text with her fingers on a smartphone keyboard), but for the sake of experimentation. It was also the pen that she used to control the smartphone underwater—for example, she pressed the shutter button when taking photos. This sets the Note 7 apart from the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, whose screens do not accept any input methods underwater.

"The coolest new opportunity S Pen - create GIFs from any video in just a couple of taps... fun, and easy to use," writes Dan Siefert. Here's how WSJ's Joanna Stern took advantage of this feature, turning an underwater video previously recorded on the same Note 7 into a GIF:

Photo: Joanna Stern/The Wall Street Journal

CNET columnist Jessica Dolcourt notes the convenience of taking notes directly on the lock screen. There you can pin a note for permanent display in Always-on Display mode. “But I would like the notes to actually be displayed on the screen, and not hidden in an icon that you have to double-tap to view,” laments Raymond Wong in Note review 7 for Mashable.

Most observers are inclined to believe that the new S Pen is unlikely to convert those who are not fans of styluses. "The first versions of the S Pen didn't convince me that it was necessary tool, and I'm not sure that the situation has changed with the Note 7. But expanding the capabilities of the pen at least makes me think about it more often,” admits The Verge columnist.

"Grow-up" function: iris scanner

Previously, the ability to unlock the device by scanning the iris of the eye was available in only one smartphone - the Microsoft Lumia 950. So the Galaxy Note is the first truly mass-produced device to support it. Reviewers write about it cautiously - it seems to work almost flawlessly, but glasses owners are not always lucky, and there are not many situations where an “eye” scanner is more convenient than a fingerprint scanner. "While the accuracy and speed of scanning is better than what I've seen on Windows 10 laptops with an iris scanner, using a fingerprint scanner is more convenient and reliable," says Stern.

Unlocking Note 7 with an iris scanner. Photo by Engadget

It was much more interesting to find out whether a 3500 mAh battery would be enough (500 mAh more than last year’s Note 5, but 100 less than the Galaxy S7 edge) for a day of operation of a powerful phablet with a large screen. It was enough for a day. But most observers noticed that the Galaxy S7 edge still remains the champion in autonomy among Samsung flagships 2016. For example, Velasco writes, Note 7 plays video on a single battery charge for 14 hours - half an hour less than the S7 edge.

conclusions

"The Note 7 isn't a perfect smartphone: it's expensive, and there's no real reason to switch to an S Pen if you've previously managed without a stylus. But it combines the updates that previously appeared on the Galaxy S7 with a number of small improvements in design and software “Samsung has created its best device to date,” Chris Velasco, Engadget.

"The Note 7 is a great phone. But if you're not sure you'll use the stylus, don't buy the Note 7. Save money and get the Galaxy S7 or S7 edge," Joanna Stern, The Wall Street Journal.

"The Note 7's price is great, although not outrageous, but if you want the best, having to pay more shouldn't be surprising. And while the software still has issues, I can easily call the Note 7 the best big phone"is a phone I've ever used that's several steps ahead of the competition." - Dan Siefert, The Verge

"The Galaxy Note 7 is the result of a facelift. It's a polished Galaxy S7, updated with new ideas. It's also a premium smartphone, equipped with features that will only appear on the Galaxy S8 - a symmetrical USB-C port and an iris scanner. And the S Pen is the key to completely new user experience and has no alternatives in the smartphone market,” GSMArena.

"If you like styluses and design Galaxy lines S7, Note 7 brings you the best of both worlds. If you don't like styluses, it's better to stick with the S7 edge." - Ken Yong, VentureBeat.

Samsung is another company with many flagships, which are again divided into spring and autumn. Why miss the opportunity to make a big statement about your smartphones twice in a year? Here's what they don't miss: Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 edge received their share of applause, attention and consumer interest, now the time has come for the “big flagship” - Note 7, with characteristics very close to the S7, but larger in size, equipped with a modified stylus software and - this year - a curved display.

Last year we already saw something similar, only without a curved display, under the name Note 5 - as you can see, Samsung is still unifying the lineup. Now it’s more difficult to get confused: all new devices come under the same index. And they are very close in appearance - having received a curved display, Note 7 became very similar to the S7 edge, only enlarged, with a stylus and USB Type-C - and the thickness of the case remained unchanged.

I should be happy about the last fact, but I’m writing this review after the well-known events with smartphones exploding while charging and one of the largest recalls of devices in history - and it’s simply impossible to ignore this issue. However, we will talk about this below, as well as about everything else.

Appearance and ergonomics

Samsung is still in Galaxy S6 I found my recipe for smartphone design - and have been following it without deviation for a year and a half. I must admit, the recipe is really good: take slim body, sheathe it on both sides tempered glass, put metal around the perimeter; Place an oval button with a fingerprint scanner at the bottom of the front panel; if necessary, bend the edges of the body. In Note 7, this scheme is brought to perfection - the edges of the glass are curved both on the front side and on the back, which makes the smartphone not only visually symmetrical, but also, excuse the cliche, fits perfectly in the hand.

The latter is really impressive - when operating a 5.7-inch gadget you do not experience any serious discomfort, the sensations are quite comparable to those you had when working with the S7, and much more pleasant than when working with the edge. Except, of course, that you have to work with both hands - you can, of course, activate a special “one-handed” mode, with picture in picture - but this, to be honest, is not very convenient. The Note 7 is also difficult to fit into a pocket. Of course, there are different pockets, but I tried several - from all of them the smartphone stuck out at least slightly. However, all this is an inevitable feature of all large smartphones, which are also called the terrible word “phablet”.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7, front panel. Above screen: speaker, front camera, light and proximity sensors, infrared iris recognition camera, and a status indicator. Below the screen: the “Home” button with a fingerprint scanner and touch keys for “Back” and calling up a list of open applications

Unfortunately, the Note 7 only looks flawless in photographs and display cases. No, after purchase it does not turn into a pumpkin, but a glass one back panel collects fingerprints very easily. This is not too critical if, as in our case, you have a black version. If you have blue or silver, get your rags ready, gentlemen and ladies. The olephobic coating helps quickly erase marks, but does not protect the case from collecting them.

Both the display and the back panel use Gorilla Glass 5, which theoretically should not react at all to the touch of keys or small change in your pocket. In practice, things are not so great. The glass can probably withstand falls from a small height, but it scratches like crazy. For the back panel to get scratched, you don’t even need to carry your smartphone with keys - you just need to put it on less than perfectly smooth surfaces from time to time. There is no loss of functionality, but it doesn't look great.

The layout and shape of the keys is identical to what we saw on the Galaxy S7: two volume buttons on the left and a power button on the right. You need to get used to this; on almost all other Android smartphones they fall together on the right side. Below the display - mechanical button Home with a built-in fingerprint scanner, with which you can unlock the device in one motion, is just a fairly common solution, and very convenient to boot.

Note 7 is the first Samsung smartphone and the first smartphone in general after Lumia 950, which has a built-in iris scanner.

The infrared sensor is located above the screen and can quickly recognize the owner; you just need to bring the device at a distance of 25-30 cm to your eyes. Another thing is that, unlike a fingerprint scanner, you first need to press the power button and swipe the lock screen - and then also bring the smartphone in an unnatural position to your face. You also need to take off your glasses contact lenses, carefully monitor the cleanliness of the sensor and endure for a long time while the device memorizes the shape of your eyes: personally, it remembered mine on the 19th (I counted) attempt - it took at least five rather dreary minutes. But forging an iris, unlike a fingerprint, is much more difficult. However, there is always a verification PIN code - if you really want to, you can bypass such strict protection.

By the way, I won’t write separately about the fingerprint scanner - they have reached such a level that they work equally quickly in both expensive and cheap devices, and if you find a scanner in a smartphone for 10 thousand (like Vernee Thor), you're not even surprised. In general, it is here too, and it works quickly, without failures.

The case, like the S7, is protected according to the IP68 standard (up to half an hour at a depth of one and a half meters) - you don’t have to worry about splashes and accidental drowning in a sink, the sea or somewhere else. Since Sony refused to produce devices protected by the same standard, this can be called a Samsung signature feature. In terms of body thickness, by the way, Note 7 is identical to the “regular” S7 and two tenths of a millimeter thicker than the S7 edge.

The same small problem with the speaker remained. It is monophonic, located on the bottom edge, and can be clearly heard when the smartphone is lying flat - but as soon as you pick it up, especially in landscape orientation, the tiny grille is blocked by your finger and it is no longer possible to hear anything. You have to carefully choose a place for your finger and place it on the stylus hidden in the case.

Software,SPen

While working on the Note 7, Samsung changed the name of its Android shell. The long-standing TouchWiz has been replaced by Grace UX. Moreover, at first glance it seems that, apart from the name and the settings menu, nothing has changed. This is a deceptive impression - although the changes are not dramatic, they make using the device much more comfortable in small ways.

First of all, after a relatively long period of use, you notice that the smartphone no longer consumes energy in standby mode, like fire - oxygen. Leaving your Note 7 uncharged overnight will prevent you from finding it dead the next morning. On the contrary, a maximum of 5-7% will be lost, or even less. Another key problem of TouchWiz also disappeared - along with a bunch of pre-installed proprietary applications that had to be forcibly “demolished” (and some were completely impossible to remove). Now there is a minimum of mandatory software; everything you need can be downloaded yourself or from Google Play, or from the Samsung App Store. True, the process of the first launch with the need to first go into account Google, then into a Samsung account and signing up for a lot of different agreements still remained too long.
