How to burn music to a disc or any other data? It would seem a simple task, but for many novice computer users, it raises a huge number of questions. There is nothing complicated about this. To burn a disc you will need a special program. Today there are many utilities on the Internet that will help you cope with this task, but the most popular and widespread is Nero.

First, decide on the discs that will be burned onto. A CD will hold less information than a DVD, so it’s better to take the second option, and besides, they cost almost the same. For repeated recording, use rewritable discs marked RW; they can be erased and burned several times.

How to burn a disc using Nero?

First you need to download and install this program. You can download it from the link - http://www.nero.com/rus/downloads.html. Just keep in mind that this is a trial version, but it will be enough.

So let's get started. We launch the utility using the Nero Express shortcut (you can use Burning Room, but everything looks more complicated there), after which a window opens in front of us to create a new project. Here you need to perform the initial setup.

Select the first item “Data”, it will allow you to write any files, I think the question is “How to burn a movie to disk?” disappears by itself, everything is done exactly the same.

Then select the desired disk type. In my case it will be a CD, but it’s okay if you have a DVD, the burning setup procedure is the same.

After everything has been done, a window will appear in which you need to add music or other files to record.

There are two ways to do this. The first is done as follows: click on the “Add” button, after which we look for files or folders that we want to burn and click again on the “Add” button, after clicking the object you selected will be added for burning.

The same procedure can be performed in a simple old-fashioned way - “Take and drag.” Find the files you need on your computer, select them and drag them into the Nero program window, thereby adding objects to record.

One more thing, when adding files, keep an eye on the green bar at the bottom of the window, it shows the amount of information you want to record. This indicator should not be red and cross the 700 MB mark for CDs, and 4.7 GB for DVDs. Otherwise, the program will generate an error.

After the data has been added, click on the “Next” button, select the device that will be used for burning (as a rule, your drive is already installed by default and you don’t need to change anything), give a name to the disk, indicate the number of copies if you plan to burn several identical copies, then the required number is put.

One small caveat: if there is empty space on the disk when adding files, make sure that there is a checkmark next to the “Allow adding files” item at the bottom. This will allow you to re-write the disc as needed.

That’s all, click “Burn” and wait for the process to complete.

We set the number of copies that we want to burn (let’s say we need to burn 5 discs with this project, absolutely identical, then we set it to 5). To be sure of the quality of the recording, we can check the box “check the data after writing to disk”, I personally check it. If in the future you want to add information to the disk, check the box next to “allow adding files (multi-session)”, but then you will only be able to write one copy and I would also like to warn you that later there may be problems with reading on other computers or DVD players, and in addition The recording quality will deteriorate.

Next, in the left, additional, panel, which we opened earlier, we select the speed at which recording will be made. Again, I would like to warn you that if you write at high speed, the recording quality may be worse. Also, if you have a weak computer, errors may occur due to processor and memory overload. I chose speed 6x. All settings for the recording process have been made, check everything again and click “record”

In the recording log window we see the inscription “start burning at 6x” and below the progress line and to the right of it a digital value in percentage, the process has begun.

If we checked the box next to “check data after recording”, then after burning the data verification will begin, i.e. the program compares the recorded data with those on the computer, if everything matches and is read normally, then the recording is considered successful.

I think every computer user sooner or later is faced with the need to write information onto a CD or DVD. And there are quite a lot of reasons for this today. For example: backing up important data, creating bootable disks, creating databases with music, photos, films, documents. In addition, with the advent of CD-RW and DVD-RW discs, it became possible to reuse one disc multiple times, i.e. rewrite, and accordingly use it as a regular storage medium.

But before you record information, you need to decide on which CD or DVD, CD-R or CD-RW, DVD-R or DVD-RW you should record the information on. In addition, you need to know whether it is possible to write or read the corresponding disc, i.e. for example, you can’t write anything on a CD-ROM drive; this device is only used for reading CDs. You won't be able to burn a DVD on a CD-RW drive, etc. Modern read/write devices, of course, already allow you to read and write all disk formats.

Let's take a quick look at the main disc formats for recording information.
1. CD-R disc. This is the simplest and cheapest disk format available today. If you need to record up to 700 MB of information, then use this particular disc format. You can record information on a CD-R disc in portions, the so-called multisession, i.e. until the total amount of information reaches 700 MB.

2. CD-RW disk. Use this disk format to temporarily store information up to 700 MB.
These discs can be rewritten many times, overwriting old information. For example, I use this disc format to listen to music in the car. When I get bored, I record new music on the same disc, or to watch movies on my home DVD player (the size of regular AVI movies is just within 700MB), I recorded it from the computer, watched it on DVD, wiped it, recorded a new one, etc.

3. DVD-R disc. Use this disc format if you need to record up to 4.7 GB of information when using a single-layer disc or up to 8.5 GB of information when using a dual-layer disc. On a DVD-R, just like on a CD-R disc, you can record information in portions, i.e. until the total amount of information reaches 4.7GB or 8.5GB, respectively. It is this disk format that is currently used to create data archives.

4. DVD-RW disc. Use this disk format to temporarily store 4.7GB of information on single-layer disks or 8.5GB on dual-layer disks. These discs can be rewritten many times, overwriting old information.

There is one more parameter that differs between disc formats - the recording speed. The fastest recording speed is on CD-R, the slowest on DVD-RW.

Now let’s talk about how to burn discs using the Nero program. I want to say right away that burning discs is not the only feature of the program. In addition, Nero has other very useful features. This includes processing audio, video, graphics, creating copies of hard drives, etc. But we’ll talk about them in other articles.

So. Now step by step what you need to do to burn a disc.
#1. Select disc format: CD/DVD, CD or DVD.

#2. In this lesson we will look at the possibility of recording data such as documents, pictures, mp3 files, video files, documents, programs, etc. In a word, DATA. For these purposes, you must select the appropriate item. If you are going to burn a CD-R or CD-RW disc, then select “Create CD with data”. If the disc is DVD-R or DVD-RW, then select “Create DVD with data”.

#3. Let’s say you selected “Create DVD with data”. After this, the subroutine for burning discs “Nero Burning ROM” opens.

#4. Now, using columns 3 and 4 - computer navigation, we find the data we need and drag it with the mouse into one of the left columns 1 or 2. In columns 1 and 2 you can create folders by clicking the RIGHT mouse button. In addition, you can delete files and folders from columns 1 and 2, if you mistakenly placed them there or simply changed your mind about writing these particular files or folders, the real files and folders will not be deleted. But deleting files from the right columns 3 or 4 will lead to actual deletion of files from the computer, so be careful! Right columns 3 and 4 work exactly the same as EXPLORER, i.e. here you can use the same techniques for selecting files, for example!

As you drag and drop files, make sure that the amount of data you want to write to the disk does not exceed the size of the disk itself. The volume scale located at the bottom of the window informs you about this. If you are using a dual-layer disc, switch the volume mode from DVD5 to DVD9. This can be done using the drop-down list in the lower right corner of the window.

If you want to burn a file, such as a movie, larger than 2GB, then you need to change the disc recording standard from ISO to UDF or UDF/ISO. To do this, you need to close the current project (second from the top, cross on the right or the “File - Close” menu), go to the “File - New” menu or LEFT-click on the picture with a piece of paper (upper left corner), select at the very bottom of the list the desired standard and click the “NEW” button.

If you accidentally closed the right navigation panels to easily drag and drop files, don't worry - you can restore it. To do this, go to the “VIEW – View” menu. files".

#5. When all the data is prepared for recording, you can insert the disc into the drive and start recording.
To start recording a project, you need to click on the picture with a disk and a match at the top of the toolbar or select the menu “Recorder – Record Project”.

Next, you need to select the optimal recording speed (if the data is important, then I recommend choosing the average recording speed) and click the “Burn” button. After this, disc recording will begin directly.

If you want to write information to a CD-RW or DVD-RW disc that already has information on it, then before writing new information, you must delete the old one. To do this, go to the “Recorder” menu and select the “Erase rewritable disc” menu item. Next, do not change anything in the settings and click the “Erase” button.

Two steps away from the goal

First, insert a blank CD-R/RW or DVD-R/RW disc into the optical drive of your PC or laptop. You can immediately select the destination drive and name the disc to be recorded. In our case, this is “Music”.

The first is by using the +Add button, the second is by simply dragging files and folders into the Nero workspace. Pay attention to the line below - it shows the maximum possible volume of data written to the disk and the current volume of files “thrown” into the program for further recording.

Before you start, check the recording speed mode - minimum, safe, automatic or maximum - and you are ready. All that remains is to click “Record”.

Other features of Nero

The Nero program also allows you to copy data from disk to disk. To do this, insert blank media of the above types into each drive. The source drive is the disk from which data will be copied, and the destination drive is the destination disk for copying. In this case, the volume of such a disk must be at least equal to the volume of data copied to it. Ready? Then click “Copy” and drink coffee! Nero will do everything herself.

The developers did not forget about “single-drive” users. For them, when copying, you first need to insert the disk from which you will copy into the drive and click “Copy”. Nero will create a temporary image that will be written to the disc you insert into the drive next.

Additionally, as with other versions of Nero, you can create disk images in the .nrg format. The recording scheme is the same: add the necessary files to the compilation field and select Image Recorder as the destination drive. Determine the folder to save the image and get a new image in .nrg format.

Nothing complicated

Burning discs with Nero is simple, as is the free program itself, called Nero Free or Nero StartSmart Essentials. This program is distributed free of charge and allows you to perform only basic operations of burning and copying discs. The program does not take up much disk space and does not load the system.

Recording an audio CD is in many ways similar to recording an MP3 disc and, in general, recording computer discs. When using Nero, the difference is simply a matter of choosing a different project type.

Burn an Audio CD in Nero

First you need to insert a blank CD-R disc into the drive.

Note. For the first training recordings, you can use CD-RW, but if the disc is being recorded for playback on home players, then it is better to use CD-R.

After that, launch the Nero program and create a new CD project in it - Audio-CD:

This will open a window with two panels. Local drives will be listed in the right pane; you need to find audio type files (WAV, MP3, WMA, etc.) on these drives and then drag the found files into the left pane with the mouse. After dragging files into the left panel, Nero will indicate for each such file its playback duration, and in the bottom line of the window it will indicate the total duration of the audio disc:

Note

Although it is possible to record an audio CD from MP3 or WMA files, you need to understand that in this case, although the disc format will be Audio-CD, the sound quality will correspond to the sound quality of the original MP3 or WMA files. So if you want to burn a really high-quality audio CD, you need to burn it from uncompressed WAV audio files.

For better compatibility with home players, do not use CD-RW discs for recording, but only CD-R.

The Audio-CD recording method described in this article is only suitable for those cases where the audio disc is planned to be played on a computer, car radio, portable player or boombox.
