How to remove windows 7 and install a new one. How to remove old Windows (Windows) after installing a new one

If a person is looking for an option on how to remove Windows 7 from a computer, then most likely he needs to clean the computer from the old version of the operating system. Residual data will load the computer's hard drive. And this is a great way to free him.

Removing the old operating system

Removing an old operating system is carried out in two stages: first you need to clean your computer of residual files. They are concentrated in a folder Windows.old. You also need to erase the record of the previous OS from the boot file boot.ini.

Step 1: Removing the Windows.old folder

The main part of the files from the previous version of the "seven" will be stored in the directory Windows.old. Erasing it can free up more than 10 GB of hard drive memory. But you shouldn't delete the folder directly. In this case, you should use a special function.

Go to the main directory of your computer and open the properties of the system partition. Then click "Disk Cleanup". And then "Clear temporary...". Select all the items and click "OK".

Then open Command Prompt with administrative capabilities. Enter a request there with the following content:

rd /s /q c:\windows.old

If a message appears with the text “It’s not possible...”, then the directory Windows.old no longer exists.

Stage 2: Removing the system from boot.ini

But information about the previous OS version may still be stored in boot.ini. This is the name of the system boot file. It shouldn't be edited directly either. Use the msconfig utility. It is convenient to run it through the window "Run". Go to the tab
There should be a single line indicating the current OS. If this is not the case, then remove the unnecessary elements. As a result, there should be one record left.

A radical but effective method to get rid of various slowdowns and incorrect functioning of Windows is to reinstall it. This instruction is for users who want to remove “buggy” Windows from their computer or laptop (the process on these devices is exactly the same) and install a new Windows 7 instead.

The procedure includes the following 3 stages:

  1. Burn a boot disk or flash drive;
  2. Setting the startup sequence of a computer or laptop via BIOS;
  3. Completely demolish (by formatting the system disk) and then install a new Windows 7.

Stage 1: Burning a bootable disk or flash drive with Windows 7

Without this stage, you won’t be able to install a new operating system, just as you won’t be able to lift yourself by the hair and pull yourself out of the hole.

You need to create bootable removable media with windows. If the PC has a disk drive, then you can use a blank DVD, and if not, then burn a bootable USB flash drive with the OS. Removable media must have at least 4 GB of memory. It is recommended to use the “UltraISO” application to create bootable removable media with the OS.

The step-by-step instructions are as follows:

  1. Download, install and run the “UltraISO” program;
  2. In the main menu of the utility, open the “Boot” tab;
  3. Next, go to “Burn Hard Disk Image”;
  4. In the “Disk Drive” line, type the designation of the removable drive (as it appears in the “My Computer” window);
  5. In the “Image file” column, determine the location of the Windows 7 image;
  6. Then click on the “Format” button;
  7. After waiting for the process to complete, click on the “Record” button.

After completing the recording, you should proceed to the second stage.

Stage 2: Setting up the startup sequence of a computer or laptop via BIOS

It is necessary to set the boot disk or flash drive as the priority boot device through the BIOS.

To get into the BIOS you need to perform the following sequence of actions:

After this, immediately proceed to the final third stage.

Stage 3: Completely demolish and install new windows 7

Wait until the Windows download process finishes. After which a menu with language definition will appear on the monitor. Then take the following steps sequentially:

This completes the user's actions. After completing step 9, you just need to wait for the Windows desktop to appear and start using the PC.

How to reinstall windows 7

Every Windows user knows that the most effective way to fix problems related to the operating system is to reinstall the Windows OS. However, if you have not yet encountered the procedure for reinstalling Windows, then you cannot do without detailed instructions. In this article you will find step-by-step instructions that will allow you to reinstall Windows 7.

Reinstalling Windows 7 will occur in three main stages:

1. Create a bootable USB flash drive or disk with Windows 7 OS;

2. Entering the BIOS to select a bootable flash drive or disk as the main boot device;

3. Windows 7 reinstallation process.

Stage 1. Creating a bootable USB flash drive or disk with the OS

In order to be able to install Windows on a PC or restore the system in case of serious problems, it must be recorded on removable media - a flash drive or disk.

In the case of a disk, you will need a blank DVD-R or DVD-RW, and in the case of a flash drive, any fully working flash drive with a capacity of 4 GB or more will do.

To burn a flash drive or disk, you can use the UltraISO program, the link to which is at the end of the article.

After installing UltraISO, launch the program window and go to “Boot” - “Burn Hard Disk Image”. Next, in the “Disk Drive” field, enter the letter of the drive or flash drive, and next to “Image file” indicate the path to the Windows 7 image saved on the PC. Then click the “Format” button to prepare the media for recording, and then the “Burn” button.

As soon as the process of creating a bootable USB flash drive is completed, you can proceed to the procedure of reinstalling windows.

Step 2. Entering the BIOS to install a bootable USB flash drive or disk as the primary boot device

Once the windows media is prepared, you will need to set it as the first boot device. To do this you will need to get into the BIOS.

Typically, entering the BIOS is done as follows:

1. Click “Start” and go to “Restart”;

2. As soon as the computer restarts, you need to press the button on the keyboard that is responsible for going to the BIOS. As a rule, this is the F2 key, but if it does not work, reboot again and try the F1, F8 and Del keys.

3. If you are unable to enter the BIOS, then, as a rule, at an early stage of turning on the computer, the name of the required key may be displayed on the screen.

4. You have successfully entered the BIOS when you see the settings menu on the screen.

Now let's move on to installing the boot device. To do this, using the arrows to navigate and the Enter key to select, go to the “Advanced Bios Features” – “First Boot Device” section and select your flash drive or CD-ROM. Click “Save and Exit” to leave the BIOS (option names may vary slightly).

If you did everything correctly, a black screen with a windows loading bar will appear on the screen.

Stage 3. Reinstalling windows 7

Wait a while for a window to select a language to install Windows 7 to appear on the screen. After setting the language settings, click on the “Next” button.

Select the drive on which you want to reinstall Windows, and then select “Disk Setup” just below.

Click the Format button. Please note that the formatting procedure will delete all files and data that were previously stored on the selected drive.

After waiting for the process to complete, a window will appear on the screen in which you need to specify the user and computer name.

Next, you will need to provide a password to protect your account. If necessary, this procedure can be skipped.

Select one of three computer protection options and finally select your time zone.

After waiting a couple of minutes, a clean desktop will appear on the screen. This completes the Windows reinstallation procedure, and you can begin setting up and using your computer.

How to remove Windows and install a new operating system

Today there will be a post on how to remove the old Windows and completely install a new operating system. I'll tell you how to completely remove Windows. For some reason, many people don't understand this.

What does it mean to demolish Windows?

Removing Windows means formatting the disk with Windows installed and installing it on a blank disk. In simple terms, demolishing Windows means correctly removing the old Windows.

Windows installers are divided into 2 types.

The first ones write it to disk. Launch the disk from under the old Windows and begin the installation. This is an INCORRECT SOLUTION for installing any Windows.

To properly install Windows Xp, 7, 8, 10, you will need to run the disk or bootable USB flash drive AFTER restarting the computer and BEFORE loading the old Windows.

First, you need to restart your computer and go into bios. In some cases, you need to set support for the usb adapter in the bios settings (or your keyboard and mouse will not respond to pressing and the Windows installation disk will not start)

USB support in some BIOSes

After this, you need to set either disk loading or flash drive loading (depending on what you are doing the demolition of Windows and a clean installation of Windows)

Saving bios settings

Press any key to boot from cd or dvd…

If the key is not pressed, then you should set usb support (this is written above)

So the disk started loading. We wait and press next. We need a moment when we can delete partition C:

Windows is demolished after deleting the C: partition (most likely windows is installed there)

Delete partition C: and install Windows CORRECTLY

Now, select an unallocated area and install windows there.

This way you will remove ALL operating systems from your computer and install just one. This method is suitable for any windows Xp/7/8/10. Now you know how to properly remove Windows and install a new windows Xp/7/8/10, as I advise you to do in every manual!

P.S: This method is suitable for installing any builds of Windows. It is recommended to install any Windows build according to this manual. Do not run the disk under Windows, load it correctly!

All the best 😉

How to remove Windows in several ways?

If you look at the most visited topics on forums, a rather funny picture emerges. For example, some people buy laptops with the Linux operating system preinstalled so that when they get home, they can immediately delete all traces of it from the hard drive partitions. Others, on the contrary, having purchased a computer with a well-known software product from Microsoft, begin to learn how to remove Windows. Well, really, how many people there are, so many opinions. This article will talk about how to remove Windows. By the way, this is a slang name for the windows operating system (Windows, Windows).

Erase! You can't leave it!

The reasons why there is a need to remove Windows can be very different. Let's list the main ones:

  • I purchased a laptop with a pre-installed operating system, the version of which does not suit the user. For example, the starting Seven, compared to the most advanced Ultimate, has a number of limitations that make working with it less convenient;
  • due to a malfunction of the installed system, it requires updating;
  • the license period has ended;
  • other reasons.

At the crossroads…

It is known that in order for a ship to arrive at its destination, the captain needs to know his current location on the map, his final destination and route. To complete the picture, a third point is sometimes mentioned - the source port. This principle is true for almost all life situations, and the answer to the question of how to remove Windows is also no exception. You don't need to graduate from the academy to delete files from your hard drive. You can remove Windows in a couple of minutes, the main thing is to choose a method. But it depends on the current state and the desired final goal. For example, for some, completely reformatting the hard drive partition is quite suitable, while for others such a drastic method is not suitable.

Methodology

So, how to remove Windows? Let's look at the main options.

First. The hard drive is divided into several partitions, on one of which the operating system is installed. In this case, further actions depend on whether there are files on the system partition that need to be saved.
Let's assume that all the necessary information has been transferred to other media. In this case, when you start installing a new operating system (both Windows and Linux), when asked by the installer about choosing a partition, you must indicate exactly the one where the system to be removed is located. Next, select the “Format” option. That's all - the partition will be cleared, and not a trace will remain of the old files. This method is not suitable when using a hard drive with a single partition.

The second method assumes that the necessary data remains and needs to be restored later. This means that when choosing a partition for the system, formatting should not be used. All new versions of Windows, having detected the old installation, will transfer all its files to the windows.old folder, from where you can later copy what you need, and delete what you don’t need using Explorer. Quite a convenient way.

And finally, you can use a special bootable Live-CD (can be downloaded from torrents). From it you should boot into a simplified operating system and use Explorer to erase all old Windows files from the hard drive partition. The necessary data can be saved. Since not all Live disks work in AHCI mode, you must first switch the hard drive subsystem to IDE (Native) in the BIOS.

As you can see, everything is simple. The main thing is to choose the best option for yourself.

How to remove windows xp and install new windows 7

If you notice that Windows XP is crashing, errors appear frequently, certain programs start poorly or do not open at all, then you may need to reinstall the system, for which you need to uninstall it first. In addition, Microsoft made an official statement that official support for this version of the operating system will end in 2014. Consequently, users may experience problems associated with using the system, one of which is the lack of updates, which is unlikely to have a good effect on the operation of the OS. If these or other reasons made you look for information on how to remove Windows XP and install Windows 7, then you have come to the right place.

Removing windows xp

First you need to go to the My Computer section. Here you need to select the hard drive on which the system is installed and right-click on it. From the context menu that opens, select Formatting. The next step is to select the file system of the partition to be formatted, as well as the cluster size.

In cases where deeper cleaning is required, the selection next to the Quick cleaning item is deselected. You can start the process by clicking the Start button. If you want to leave important documents or programs and only delete the system, you will need to select system folders and delete them using Del.

You can also perform this operation using a boot disk. Moreover, this can be done directly when installing another version of the OS. To do this, insert the disk and turn on the computer. To get into the BIOS press Del. Go to the BOOT section, where we set the boot priority to disk. You can save the settings using the F10 button.

After this, system files will begin to be copied from the disk. The system will prompt you to select the partition where the installation will take place. During its process, you will have the opportunity to format partitions, delete unnecessary folders, etc. To do this, you just need to press a button that the system will prompt. In addition, Windows xp can be uninstalled from the Control Panel, for which you need to go to the Uninstall or install programs section.

As you can see, everything is quite simple. However, in some cases, even if you want to install a new version of the OS, you can leave windows xp as a second operating system. This will allow you to use two systems on your computer. If you still need to delete one of them, do not forget to remove information about it in startup. You will already learn how to view and change startup in Windows 7 from this article.

Good afternoon friends. I think every user has noticed that after he installed a new operating system, this OS begins to work like a well-oiled clock. Everything loads quickly and correctly. It's a pleasure to work with such a system.

But time passes, and the system begins to slow down. There is a long loading time when turned on, and the system also takes a very long time to turn off. The same thing happens with programs installed on this system. They take a long time to load and do not work correctly.

Of course, the best way is to clean the system. I have written more than once about cleaning the system in my articles. I even wrote two free books about this: - “ How to speed up your computer? And " How to properly clean Windows?».

But let’s say the user has already decided to remove this system and install a new one. Although, we delete systems not only because of failures. Quite often this happens when a new OS is released. When the user simply wanted to install a new system. In both of these cases, the old system will have to be removed.

Also, the system is often removed when there is another parallel one, and the second one becomes simply unnecessary for us. So how to do it right? Today we will look at three ways to completely remove Windows 7 from your computer, although this applies not only to Windows 7, but also to other operating systems.

How to remove Windows 7 from your computer - replace it with a new system

We will do this by using the installation disk, which we will load from the BIOS. To do this, during system boot, select the BIOS settings. So, the boot disk is in your drive. As soon as you click to turn on the computer, immediately press F2. Moreover, you need to do this before loading the Microsoft logo.

You will enter the BIOS settings, from where you can select the boot order of the disks on your PC. We enter the Boot section.

To do this, click on CDROM and set the priority.

Then press F10 to save the settings. Now we can remove our system by installing another operating system on it, the one you decided to install. At the same time, you can remove a system from the BIOS using other third-party software, for example, Acronis Disk Director, but we will still consider removal by installing a new one on the old system.

This is the most common and convenient method. I will not talk about all the nuances of installing the system, especially since I already have an article on the topic of installing the system. I’ll just explain that if you already have a system installed and you decide to install another one on it, then during the installation of the system, before choosing the partition where you will install the new system, the old one must be formatted.

To do this, being in the window for selecting a disk for installing the system, you need to click on the line at the bottom of the “Disk Settings” window.

Then, we will have a warning about deleting all information from this section. Which is exactly what we need.

Our disk has been formatted. Then, all you have to do is continue installing the new operating system.

To speed up your Windows installation, I recommend:- Computer accelerator.

How to remove a second Windows from a computer First method

Many users have two systems. We will consider the case when both of them are on the Hard Disk, but in different partitions (often people put the second system on a virtual disk in the same partition).

So, to do this, right-click on the “Computer” shortcut and select properties. A window will open with our disk partitions. Select "Advanced options" in the left column.

The “System Properties” window appears. In the “Advanced” menu, select “Options” above the “Boot and Recovery” line.

Then the most important thing begins. In the window that opens, you need to select the system that you want to leave, from which the download will occur. If you make a mistake, the system simply won't boot.

Click OK. Also, this method is suitable if you just want to remove the second Windows from the boot menu.

We need this action to eliminate surprises. For example, if the default boot is the system that you want to remove, and you do not change the system, the computer will simply not start working.

Now, close all open windows, click on the “Computer” shortcut with the left mouse button. In the window that opens, select the disk on which there is a parallel system that we want to delete. In my case, this is drive D. To do this, right-click on the drive and select “Format”.

In the window that opens, select “Start”. We get a warning about the consequences of formatting. Click OK and the disk with our second system is completely formatted.

How to remove parallel Windows from your computer Second method

This method is much simpler. To do this, just enter “System Configuration” into the command line or msconfig and open the program. Select the “Download” menu. In the window that opens, we will have information about our operating systems. Since I currently have only one system, the program shows one system.

Then, select the system that needs to be removed and delete it by clicking on the “Delete” button.

After completing the procedures, it is advisable to clean the registry. The task is completed, the second system is deleted!

You now know how to completely remove Windows 7 from your computer and you shouldn’t have any problems with this. Also, I’m interested in your opinion on this issue in the comments! Good luck!

Friends, after removing Windows from your computer, I suggest you install it not on a regular HDD, but on an SSD, as I did. Disks on a page range from 120 to 960 GB, i.e., actually 1 TB. You can purchase it from the link... on AliExpress. Judging by the description, the disk is suitable for both Computers and (laptops).

From the screenshot you can see the disk volumes. If you need to install the system, it is enough to purchase a disk with a capacity of 120 GB. If it’s a full-fledged hard drive, then, at your discretion, from 480 to 960 GB. Why do I recommend installing Windows on a solid-state hard drive? Your system will boot in seconds! If you purchase a 1TB disk, all your programs will work!

When you reinstall Windows without formatting the hard drive, a folder marked .old remains on it. It stores information about the previous installation of the operating system. As a rule, you should delete this folder if there is not enough free disk space. There are several methods:

  1. Removal by formatting.
  2. Manual removal.
  3. Removal using Disk Cleanup.

On a note! When upgrading the system toWindows 10 folder is deleted automatically after ten days. When installingXP completely formats the hard drive, so the old version is not saved.

The method is fail-safe and irreversible. During installation, it is worth deleting all partitions of the hard drive and partitioning it again. Please note that you should not select the “Quick format” option, since it does not check bad sectors (bad sectors) of the hard drive. However, with full formatting, take care to save the information; it will not be possible to restore it after installation.

Manual removal

Step 1. Enter the directory of the disk with the installed system.

Step 2. Select the Windows.old folder and use the “Shift+Del” combination. When prompted, confirm the deletion.

On a note! Do not delete a folder to the trash via the context menu or by pressing the "Del." The hard drive will not be cleaned - the data in the recycle bin still takes up space.

Uninstall via command line

In fact, this method is also a manual removal, but uninstallation is carried out at a low level, which guarantees a better result due to the simultaneous scanning of hard drive sectors.

Step 1. To call the command line in the Start menu, in the “Search programs and files” line, you need to enter the cmd command, call the context menu and run the handler as an administrator.

Step 2. To delete a directory, enter the command “rmdir /s c:\windows.old”.

On a note! Instead of a commandrmdir can be usedrd. Note the syntax - the command is case insensitive, i.e. "RMDIR" and "rmdir" are both equivalent and equally possible. At the same time, pay attention to the registration of the directory - if the folder intended for deletion is named “ ", and you indicate "windows.old", then nothing will be deleted.

Step 3. Confirm deleting the Windows.old folder by pressing the “n” key and “enter”.

On a note! Key "/s" allows you to delete a directory, including all subfolders and hidden files. If you add the key "/q", then confirmation of the request is not required, however, in order to avoid deleting the wrong folder, it is better to leave the request.

Removal via Disk Cleanup

Step 1. To call the utility, in the “Find programs and files” line, you need to enter the line “Disk Cleanup” and run the program as an administrator.

In the “Search programs and files” line, enter the line “Disk Cleanup” and run the program as administrator

Step 2.

Step 3.

Step 4. At the end of the analysis, a window will be displayed listing possible items for deleting partitions. Start the system file cleaning analysis process by clicking on the corresponding button.

Step 5. Select the device you want to wipe and click OK.

Select the device on which to perform cleaning and click “OK”

Step 6. Wait for the analysis process to complete. The assessment is made by sections of the hard drive.

Step 7 Highlight Previous Windows Installations and click OK.

Step 8 Wait for the cleaning process to complete.

Tired of using Windows 7? Do you want to return to the proven XP or install a more modern G8? Then it will be useful for you to learn how to remove Windows 7 from your computer.

Preparing the system

Before you start uninstalling Windows 7 from your laptop or computer, make sure to back up your files. It's good if the hard drive is partitioned and you have a special volume for storing information that you won't have to format when installing another system.

Open the disk with the files and create a special folder on it. Copy the necessary information into the created directory. This could be the contents of the “My Documents”, “My Videos”, “Music” folders, etc.

Be sure to back up your desktop files: formatting the system partition will delete them.

If you don't have a second partition on your hard drive, you can use network folders or removable media as backup storage.

Removing the operating system

After saving the necessary information in a safe place, you can proceed directly to uninstalling the system. If you have not deleted the windows Old folder, you can use it to return to a previous version of Windows. However, this option is not suitable if you updated Windows Vista to “seven” - the system must be installed on top of the previous version.

The most acceptable option for removing Windows 7 is to format the disk. This can be done by installing another version of the operating system from Microsoft.

Remember that in this case, not only system files will be destroyed, but also all other information that was stored on the hard drive (or in the system partition if the hard drive was previously partitioned).

However, if you first make a backup copy of all the necessary data, then there is simply no better option than formatting the hard drive. In this case, another version of Windows will be installed on a blank medium, which guarantees its correct operation.

Installing a second system

If you have the opportunity to make a special partition for the second system, you can install it and then remove it from the Windows 7 boot list. In this case, all files on the hard drive will be saved.

To then get rid of the “seven” in the boot selection list, you need to know how to remove the second operating system. In Windows XP, for example, this can be done by editing the boot.ini file. You just need to delete the line that says loading Windows 7 and save the file. The operating system files themselves (folders “Windows”, “Users”, etc.) will have to be deleted manually.

Do I need to uninstall Windows 7 at all?

If you are not satisfied with some individual components, it is much more convenient to customize Windows 7 for yourself than to completely uninstall it from your computer.

In addition, there is no adequate alternative among Microsoft products: in Windows 8.1, although some shortcomings have been corrected, the overall impression of the system’s operation is still not the most enthusiastic. Therefore, it is better to use the recommendations below and simply optimize the operation of Windows 7 to suit your needs:

  1. Do not load the system with unnecessary programs and applications.
  2. Defragment your hard drive periodically.
  3. Constantly monitor your startup.
  4. Check the registry for errors and correct them promptly.
  5. Install a licensed antivirus with an up-to-date signature database and scan the system at least once a week to prevent it from becoming infected.

Even if you decide to delete the “seven”, nothing bad will happen. In any case, you can always reinstall Windows 7.

How to remove one Windows operating system from a computer if two systems are installed?

Today I decided to prepare a short article in which I will talk about how to remove one windows system from a computer on which you have installed two operating systems, for example, windows 8 and windows 7. I have already written an article on how to do this correctly, how to install windows 8 , next to the already installed Windows 7. This article can be considered a small addition.

It is clear that if you installed two operating systems on your computer, for example, in order to test Windows 8, then sooner or later you will want to remove one of the systems. Either leave the new eight and remove Windows 7, or vice versa, remove Windows 8.

I don't see much point in having two systems on a computer. Although, now hard drives are of such capacity that you can install about ten of them :) But, for example, on my 120 GB SSD drive, this is not very correct. Therefore, when you have already checked everything and made your decision, the question arises, how to remove Windows 7 or Windows 8. Now I will write how I did it.

You probably already thought that what’s complicated here is that you formatted the partition with an unnecessary system, and that’s all. But not everything is so simple, the bootloader still remains intact. You also need to remove the system from the boot menu. There is nothing difficult about this, I’ll demonstrate it now.

Completely remove windows (if two systems are installed)

It is best to remove it from the system that you decided to leave. I don't know how important this is, but it's better to do it this way.

For example, I decided to leave Windows 8, and I will show you how to remove Windows 7.

This means that in this case, we carry out all actions from the figure eight. First, we will make our system, which we decided to leave, the main one (it should boot by default), and then we will remove the system we do not need from loading.

Go to the desktop and press the Win+R keys. In the Run window, enter the msconfig command and click OK.

In the new window, go to the Boot tab, select the operating system that we want to keep (in our case, this is Windows 8), and click on the Use as default button (opposite OS, the corresponding status “OS loaded by default” should appear).

Now, select the system that we want to remove (in our case, it is WIndows 7), and click on the Remove button.

A window will appear, I advise you to select Reboot.

The computer will reboot, and without the ability to select an operating system, the system that we left should immediately boot. In our case, this is Windows 8.

What to do with files from the old system?

Yes, all that remains is to deal with the partition that previously contained the operating system. The easiest way is to format it and store files on it.

Just be careful when you format the partition. Check its contents, there should be folders there: Program Files, windows, Users, etc. And this cannot be drive C, it will have a different letter.

Attention! Formatting will delete all information on the local drive. If we consider our case specifically, all information that was stored on the local drive C (desktop, my documents folder, my photos, etc.) will be deleted in the operating system that we want to delete.

Second way.

You can delete a partition, and add the free space that appears after deleting it to an existing partition. I don’t know how much of a necessary procedure this is, because it’s much easier to just leave this section for storing files.

But, if you decide to delete it completely, then this can be done using the standard Disk Management tool, which I wrote about in this article “Creating a partition on a hard drive using a standard tool in Windows 7.” Do not pay attention that the article was written for windows 7, on eight, everything is exactly the same.

In Disk Management, right-click on the partition you want to delete and select “Delete Volume...”.

Then, right-click on the partition to which you want to add memory from the deleted partition and select Extend volume. Follow the instructions, everything is simple.

Afterword

Here is a proven way to remove an operating system if you have two or even more of them on your computer. I think that there should not be any problems. The main thing is to be careful not to delete something wrong or format a section with valuable information.

If anything, ask your questions in the comments, I will try to help. Share information, perhaps you did this procedure differently. Best wishes!

How to remove windows (Windows) XP, 7, 8, 10 from a computer or laptop via BIOS or command line step by step completely

To remove the operating system, first of all, we need to set the BIOS to boot from the installation media. It is worth emphasizing that the installation disks of the Windows operating system have a built-in formatting program during the installation process.

What changing the boot priority might look like in the BIOS is shown in the screenshots below.

First Boot Device is the first boot device to be checked, Second Boot Device is the second boot device, i.e. if the first one is not found, then it will be loaded in priority. And so on by analogy.

There are a huge number of BIOS varieties and it is not possible to give examples for every existing BIOS. The main thing you should know about BIOS is the button to enter it. This could be F2, F8, F12 or Del. See prompts when loading or rebooting. It can be found in the manual for the motherboard.

In other words, your motherboard has a built-in BIOS; each individual BIOS has its own entry keys, but they are often the same. When you turn on the computer, you just need to press the button (maybe more than once) to enter the BIOS before Windows starts; if you don’t have time, you will have to reboot again.

In more modern BIOSes, you can switch the boot priority by pressing a certain key, most often this is the F8, F11 key (but it’s better to look at the motherboard manual or search the Internet). Also, when you turn on and reboot, there are prompts (for example, BBS POPUP).

After changing the settings in the BIOS, do not forget to save the settings, otherwise you will have to do everything again. A request to save settings appears before exiting the BIOS

When is system removal necessary?

Firstly, if the operating system has stopped working adequately, the reason for this may be: deletion of important system files, inaccurate operation of programs, targeted harm to the operating system by viruses. Secondly, this is the user’s desire to change the operating system due to inconvenience or the desire to sell the computer completely empty.

How to remove windows using windows 7, 8, 10 disk

By the removal process we mean replacing it with another operating system, but if you need to leave the computer clean, you just need to exit after formatting and not continue installing the OS.

The removal process for 7, 8, 10 will differ only in the formatting method, it will be a disk or flash drive with a new operating system or a special, pre-prepared drive with a formatting program.

Please note that before you begin removing the operating system, remember which partition it is installed on, and also save all important files from your desktop and documents. All data on the disk being formatted will be completely deleted.

After correctly setting the boot priority, this message most often appears after checking the hardware and instead of loading Windows.

Press any key and the installation process will begin. The process of downloading the necessary files will then begin.

The Windows 7 installation interface will load (other versions are similar). Select the language, time format and currency, keyboard layout or input method and click next.

Don't be afraid to click install.

Read the license agreement and check the “I accept the terms of the license agreement” checkbox. Click next.

Select the option to install Windows 7 completely.

Or custom installation in windows 8

Select the required disk and click “Format” or “Delete”. When deleted, the section turns into an unallocated area, i.e. the label is removed from the volume. Other ways to remove an operating system from a computer

In order to remove Windows using this method, you will need a previously prepared storage device (DVD, CD, Flash) on which there will be a formatting program. The programs are varied, but the principle of operation is similar everywhere.

Example of Live CD AOMEI PE BUILDER

Some Live CDs look like a regular operating system, although they are actually loaded from a disk or flash drive. AOMEI PE Builder example.

We select the formatting program built into Live Cd; in this case, it is the AOMEI Partition Assistent program. Different Live CDs have different formatting tools.

Select the hard drive if there are several of them, select the drive with Windows, right-click on the drive and select Format Partition.

A confirmation window will appear, specify the label for the disk, specify the file system (it’s better to leave it the same if you don’t understand this), leave the cluster size at default.

After formatting is completed, you can exit, the system will be deleted.

UEFI BIOS - what is it and how does it work?

There is another way to remove windows. To do this we need to enter the command line. In the case of a Live CD, go to Start and select “Command Prompt”.

Now it is enough to use one single command - format x:

Instead of X, write any drive letter and press Enter. After this, the operating system will kindly warn us about deleting all data from this volume. We agree by pressing the Y key and Enter. In the picture below you can see what deleting a disk from the command line looks like.
