The technical secret of the smartphone given to Medvedev, which “will not be turned off,” has already been revealed.

Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev visited the import substitution exhibition, which opened at Crocus Expo in Moscow, the press service of the Russian government reports.

During the visit, Medvedev got acquainted with the developments released in Russia and assessed the pace of import substitution in Russia. The head of government noted that in a number of industries, domestic production is developing faster than planned. The Prime Minister examined in detail the new cabin of the KamAZ truck, which will go into mass production in 2019. He also examined the new bus and examined idhumkz ice cream stand.

After that, the prime minister assessed the bus of the Russian manufacturer, went into the salon, then into the driver’s cabin and honked the horn to the exhibition visitors.

At one of the last stands, Medvedev was presented with an Inoi R7 mobile phone. This phone runs on the Sailfish Mobile operating system, which belongs to the founder of the ESN holding, owner of the RBC media holding Grigory Berezkin.

“It is not connected to any foreign services, so it will definitely not be turned off,” Medvedev was assured. The words of the developers are quoted by TASS.

The model is based on the Sailfish Mobile operating system on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 chipset. The Inoi R7 has two gigabytes of RAM and 16 gigabytes of internal memory. The Russian phone is also equipped with a five-inch HD display and two cameras. The owner of such a device will be able to enable applications in isolated mode with access restrictions. Also, the smartphone is deprived of cloud services like iCloud, RIA FAN found out.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev inspected the stands of the third international specialized exhibition "Import Substitution", examined the cabin of the new KamAZ model and received a Russian telephone as a gift, RIA Novosti reports.

Medvedev inspected the ice cream stand, got acquainted with the inside of the KamAZ cabin, which will go into mass production in 2019, after which he examined the bus, examined the interior, the cabin, and even pressed the sound signal button.

At one of the last stands, Medvedev was presented with an Inoi R7 phone. “It is not connected with any foreign services, so it will definitely not be turned off,” the prime minister was assured. In 2013, Medvedev was already given a Russian smartphone - then it was YotaPhone. The president of the country received another smartphone of his at that time from Apple CEO Steve Jobs - he gave Medvedev an iPhone 4.

This year, Inoi smartphones running Sailfish Mobile OS won the Russian Post competition for the purchase of 15 thousand smartphones for postmen. The company will pay 171.1 million rubles for the devices. with the initial price of the competition being 195 million rubles, that is, 11,400 rubles. a piece. However, the operating system is not entirely a Russian development. Sailfish OS is owned by Finnish startup Jolla. In 2016, the Russian company Open Mobile Platform joined Jolla.

The project is based on the MeeGo operating system, which was used in Nokia smartphones and which the vendor decided to abandon in 2012. The platform seemed promising, so its developers separated from the Finnish company, called themselves Jolla and continued to develop the operating system, which was renamed Sailfish.

In May 2015, at a meeting of representatives of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications and the Jolla company, Russia’s plans to create its own mobile operating system based on the original Sailfish OS - Sailfish Mobile OS RUS were announced. The development is carried out by the Open Mobile Platform (OMP) company, created in April 2016, a company registered in the city of Innopolis (Tatarstan) and established by the Open Mobile Platform - Development Center LLC, created in March 2016.

On September 5, 2016, Sailfish Mobile OS RUS was included in the Register of Russian Software of the Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications, which government agencies are required to rely on when purchasing software, and at the end of 2016 it received a FSB certificate for requirements for the protection of data that does not constitute a state secret.

Inoi is assembled in China, equipped with a five-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 chipset with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory. Supports microSD memory cards up to 64 GB. The smartphone supports LTE networks and has a 2500 mAh battery. The camera resolution is 8 and 5 megapixels. In addition to GPS, the smartphone also supports the GLONASS navigation system.

The characteristics of the smartphone are far from top-end. But in general, it is logical that large power is not required to accept payments for utilities and other services. The price of a gadget for the public sector can hardly be called fair. Smartphones from Archos, Alcatel, Huawei, LG, HTC with similar characteristics are several times cheaper - from 4,579 thousand rubles. (data from Yandex.Market).

The presence of Russian software in the registry provides advantages in government procurement of software. Since January 1 last year, purchases of foreign programs have been limited for government departments (including regional and municipal authorities). If they want to buy foreign software, they must first check the registry and make sure that there are no analogues there. And if there is an analogue, then the buyer can purchase foreign software only if he publicly explains why he is not satisfied with the Russian analogue.

In mid-July 2016, First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov sent a directive to state representatives on the boards of directors of state-owned companies to give preference to Russian software when purchasing software. In particular, one of the requirements for purchased software should be its availability in the registry. That is why a smartphone assembled in China from foreign-made components and running on a modified Finnish operating system cost Russian Post a price significantly higher than similar Android smartphones that had no chance of winning the tender.

During the exhibition, Medvedev was assured that his new gadget was not associated with any foreign services. Dmitry Anatolyevich accepted the gift, but then transferred it to a special fund in accordance with the law. Natalya Timakova, press secretary of the head of government, spoke about this.

The question arises: what if Medvedev underestimated the Inoi R7 and got rid of it too early?

Moreover, the new iPhone X will go on sale only in November.

How was Sailfish created?

In 2012, then-Nokia boss Stephen Elop stopped developing devices running the MeeGo operating system. The platform, although empty (few applications), was pleasant and promising, so its developers separated from the Finnish company and continued to develop MeeGo on their own. True, the original name had to be abandoned, and the concept quickly changed: people from Nokia decided that the world needed the most secure mobile system.

The new company was called Jolla, the new OS - Sailfish. This system was able to work with encrypted partitions and supported a secure connection via SSH, and in terms of interface it was noticeably different from iOS and Android. Sailfish was already extremely open to the user, and its main feature was global support for gestures.

The target audience for the first gadgets were geeks who admired the Nokia N900, N950 and N9. And here the problems began: poor startups realized that they were not going to release flagship smartphones. Producing your own devices has become a pain. Jolla used ancient hardware and cheap cases, but raised the price, believing that fans would still support the developer of an OS for geeks.

Who financed the project?

Money was begged for on crowdfunding sites, smartphones were selling very poorly, and Sailfish lived only at the expense of enthusiasts who installed the system on ordinary Android gadgets. In 2015, Jolla fell into a terrible crisis: investors squeezed cash, managers laid off half of the staff. But it was the users who suffered the most. People paid for a tablet, waited a year, and then they were told that there weren’t enough devices for everyone, so those who wanted could take part of the money, but not the whole amount. In general, typical behavior of a company that is going down.

But then the Russian Open Mobile Platform corporation came to the rescue. It appeared in the spring of 2016 and immediately declared its goal - to develop its own product based on Sailfish and participate in the competition for import substitution. The modification from OMP was called Sailfish Mobile OS Rus, and the work on the product itself was very interesting. The Russian language was present in Sailfish anyway, and Yandex itself helped with the integration of Yandex services. What the functions of the “Open Mobile Platform” were is a mystery, but they won the competition. Jolla, in turn, received money for the license (the amount is unknown) and survived.

What did they do in Russia?

The first product on Sailfish Mobile OS Rus was the legendary Ermak WMD smartphone. Thickness - one and a half centimeters, weight - 340 grams, processor - from 2011 (it was 2016), price - from 1500 to 2000 dollars. The most clown-like characteristic was its durability: the manufacturer assured that the device was able to withstand 26 (exactly 26) falls onto a concrete floor from a height of one and a half meters. How this was considered is unclear.

However, the wonderful “Ermak” never went on public sale, and the number of copies sold through state tenders is unknown.

Later, Ermak had a successor - the INOI R7 smartphone, announced at MWC 2017. And it is actually being sold to ordinary people, and not just to employees of state corporations.

This device is wonderful in every way. Firstly, it has a great name: the word INOI evokes something alternatively gifted, and the R7 is a hint that there used to be an R6, T5 or M2. In short, the letter and number were added just like that, for the sake of respectability.

Secondly, inside the “Other” there is a Snapdragon 210 processor (terribly budget), and outside there is a typical Chinese case. The operating system is Sailfish Mobile OS Rus.

Such specifications cost six to seven thousand rubles, but not the 12 thousand they ask for a Sailfish smartphone.

It is very difficult for anyone in their right mind to buy such a device. Sailfish still has few applications of its own. Not all Android software launches, and even slowly - through an emulator. The interface will inevitably slow down: the processor resources are simply not enough for comfortable work.

It’s also difficult to highlight security as the main advantage: Android with an encrypted partition and the installation of third-party applications disabled will be almost as safe and secure.

In short, the INOI R7 is an absolutely stillborn device with an inflated price tag. The gadget is not suitable even for jingoistic patriots, because there is at least something purely Russian in the R7 - perhaps only the name.

The only person who was surprised was the CEO of the Open Mobile Platform, Pavel Eiges. Back in the spring, he said that his company estimated the Russian market’s need for trusted corporate smartphones at 55 million devices. Five million - for the public sector, ten million - for business users, forty million - for schoolchildren, pensioners and educational organizations.

Even the ambitious CEO of Yota Devices, Vladislav Martynov, did not make such crazy calculations.

It is possible to get closer to these indicators only if smartphones on Sailfish are given as gifts, as they were to Medvedev, and not sold for $200 on the next shelf with models from Xiaomi, Meizu, Lenovo and Huawei.

MOSCOW, September 12 – RIA Novosti. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev visited the third international specialized exhibition "Import Substitution" and received a Russian Inoi R7 phone as a gift.

The head of government was presented with a domestic smartphone at one of the stands. “It’s not connected to any foreign services, so they definitely won’t turn it off,” a representative of the manufacturing company assured Medvedev.

Before this, the head of the Cabinet of Ministers inspected the stands of the Lipetsk region and Ingushetia, sat in the cabin of the new KamAZ and visited the cabin of a promising model of a regular bus.

He also got acquainted with the products of the Kalinin Machine-Building Plant. At one of the exhibition stands, Medvedev drew attention to crushing and screening equipment, which, as the prime minister was explained, can be used during renovation in the process of processing construction waste. Two such cars have already been sold to Germany.

Device characteristics

The Russian smartphone comes pre-installed with a modified version of the Finnish operating system (OS) Sailfish Mobile, which offers a high degree of personal data protection. On the OS, however, it is not possible to run Android applications.

According to the online store "Other", the Inoi R7 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 processor with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory, an IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels and two cameras: a main 8 and a front 5 megapixel.

According to the manufacturer, the device can operate up to 200 hours in standby mode and up to 6 hours in talk mode. The low power consumption of the Sailfish operating system is especially emphasized.

The cost of Inoi R7 is 11,990 rubles.

Competitor YotaPhone

The most famous smartphone model, in the creation of which domestic specialists take part, is the Russian-Chinese YotaPhone. The first version of the device was presented in 2013.

In August, representatives of the Rostec corporation, a major shareholder of Yota Devices, said that sales of the new YotaPhone 3 smartphone will begin in September, but it will only enter the Russian market by the end of the year.

“China is the world’s largest smartphone market, and we are confident that the start of sales in China will mark the beginning of the successful global expansion of the YotaPhone brand... We expect that the company will be able to successfully sell more than one million devices in the first year of sales, excluding new markets, including Russia, where the phone is planned to be launched at the end of 2017,” Frank Chen, who distributes YotaPhone in China, explained the situation.

Today, the shareholders of Yota Devices are the Chinese China Baoli Technologies Holdings Limited (30%), the Rostec state corporation (25.1%) and MTH Limited (10%). Another 34.9% of the shares belong to the Telconet fund of Sergei Adonyev and Albert Avdolyan.
