Design
There is something Vertu about the iPhone X, especially if you know what you're dealing with. We are dealing with surgical stainless steel, an alloy developed by Apple specifically for its products. To ensure that the color of the glass matches the color of the steel, the paint is applied at the molecular level. The phrase “special technology” can be repeated and repeated and repeated - one feels that this is a special product for the company, and therefore the feeling of ownership is very interesting. In recent years I have been walking with iPhone Plus, in the hand the X feels like a cross between a regular device and a larger version. For most, I think the existing diagonal will be enough; communicating with the device is comfortable, for once, my iPhone is invisible in my pocket and fits quite well there along with my wallet. Yes, not an “A”, but not a “plus” at all. I twirled both versions in my hands, black and white, both are good, and you can safely choose either one - the cosmic sensations from the assembly, materials and little things. What also matters is the stunning display and how neatly the frames are made. Steel - a screen with the right black - a smooth and smooth interface - the expected operation of all functions - this is the impression of the product.
During a day without a case, if scratches appear on the surface, they are microscopic. I will try to wear the iPhone X actively, with the keys, and then I will tell you what and how happened to the case. We turned on the iPhone X, looked at it and realized that here it is, an OLED display with the right blacks, the right whites, with such a picture in films that you even want to watch it again. Don’t forget to enable video loading in HDR format in the settings, it’s even cooler (this applies to the “Video” application). Is the beard on the left annoying? Honestly, after a few seconds you forget about the protrusion, especially since you can change the aspect ratio when viewing, there may be stripes on the left and right.
God, how black it is, it’s just something.
Now CHARGE PERCENTAGE DISPLAY IS NOT SUPPORTED, apparently because there is already little space in the right compartment for service indicators (network signal level, Wi-Fi, and battery). Everything is very smooth, beautiful, and, for sure, for many companies (Samsung, for example) this will serve as a source of inspiration for the design team. Or Apple Pay - you need to double-click the power button, select a card - you will see an animated FaceID splash screen and the payment will occur. The control panel with switches comes out if you drag your finger down from the upper right corner. The display supports TrueTone technology, 5.8-inch diagonal, resolution 2436×1125 pixels, 458 pixels per inch. I swore off talking about boring characteristics, but we can’t do without it - there is something to work on. I would like to be able to enable login to the desktop IMMEDIATELY after FaceID is triggered; I would like to receive updates for a number of programs sooner. As I write these lines, there are no updates, and Sberbank, for example, looks terrible, with dark stripes at the top and bottom. I assume that from November 3rd I will have to properly update my hundred programs. And don't forget reboot iPhone X now works like on the eight - press volume up, volume down, hold down the power button until the logo appears.
A little more about gestures - they ask what to do if you click on an icon to change the location or delete a program, and they start to “shake” - you need to swipe your finger from bottom to top. And in general, don’t be alarmed - the strip at the bottom indicating Home helps you get used to it faster, the gestures here work as they should, I didn’t notice any glitches or lack of logic. After just a couple of hours, you can control your iPhone X with your eyes closed.
Water and stone
The smartphone is not afraid of water and dust, “Protection degree IP67 according to IEC 60529”, as the official data says, in reality you can take it to the bath, shower, swim and dive. But keep all chargers away from water and bathrooms. After salt water, rinse in fresh water, use common sense to help; It's not worth diving a hundred meters with an iPhone X. As for falls - stainless steel is a reliable material, but glass does not like stone. FaceID
You can set up FaceID during the initial setup or later, everything is much simpler than with TouchID. We look into the camera, rotate our heads until we completely fill the field. The TrueDepth camera and all the hardware of the smartphone work instantly, face recognition is good in the most different conditions: It’s cloudy in Moscow now, so there were no problems during the day at dusk. Over time, the system learns and recognizes you with glasses, a hat, with a beard and mustache, without a beard and mustache, in a variety of guises.
Basically, the focus is on the eyes, nose and mouth, so if the device is on the side, the lock will not open; but if you look at your smartphone, the lock opens. Then you need to slide the screen up and, voila, we get to the desktop - this does not happen automatically yet. Let me remind you that TouchID speeds up work with the device, with FaceID you need additional action. Some programs, when using a smartphone, ask for FaceID, a menu appears and you need to look at the smartphone. The operating range is long; I was able to unlock the device from about forty centimeters and in conditions with poor lighting. There are no problems in the dark or in the sun. I remember how Samsung Galaxy The S8 asked me in Dubai to open my eyes wide on the beach for it to unlock. I opened them, opened them, opened them, until the attendant came running and asked if everything was okay with me and if I needed a doctor. With the iPhone X, you don’t need to open your eyes or make faces - you can do this in Messages to make animated emoticons, but in life everything is unlocked instantly.
Of course, there are a lot of thoughts about security here, because at night someone can unlock the device and do something. You can’t add a second person - as was the case with fingerprints: my wife and I can easily log into each other’s smartphones and tablets, because - you never know. They are already selling masks for protection while sleeping on Ali; it is not recommended to use FaceID for children under 13 years of age and for those who have twins or very similar relatives. There are many reservations, but, in fact, the level of protection is even better than using TouchID. It is quite possible that Apple will add for following devices and a fingerprint sensor built into the display - so that “security” reaches its apogee. But you can live with FaceID - now there are notifications on the screen, hidden from prying eyes, I look right on the screen and the messages are revealed. In the car, if the device is “glued” to the holder, you wake up the smartphone with your finger, facial recognition occurs, in the dark and from a great distance this happens instantly - amazingly. Just as Touch ID was once amazing, it worked instantly, so now Face ID is amazing, which does not cause problems for the user.

I tried to pay for several things with using Apple Pay and Face ID, in different stores - just yesterday I went to a tire repair shop, then for groceries, then bought winter 95 Nikes, then went to pick up things from the dry cleaner. There were no problems with the terminals, in one place there was a cancellation of payment, an Alfa Bank card, but, according to the seller, this is some kind of strange terminal. There were no problems with the card in other places. Payment is instant, you double-click on the side button to call up Wallet (from a locked state), then all you have to do is look at the screen. Both Touch ID and Face ID are equally convenient. Payments are made in the same way in programs, for example, Tinkoff already supports facial recognition, and when transferring from account to account, a request for identification appears, then an icon, then the transfer occurs. I repeat, everything is like with a finger, just don’t “press” anywhere - I looked, the action happened. If you don't look, nothing will happen.

For many, it is common to use a smartphone as a mini speaker system. The iPhone X, despite its size, has perfectly selected stereo speakers; they are located at the top and bottom of the device. The sound is deep, the volume is high, somewhere on business trips, trips or even just in the bathroom you can listen to music with iPhones and not break off. Apple engineers have used advanced color correction technology that is superior to similar systems used in all previous iPhones (including 8 and Plus). Thanks to it, the most accurate transmission of all shades conceived by the director or designer occurs. The color format is absolutely unimportant (be it P3 or sRGB). Each shade on the iPhone X screen will be original, and not adjusted to the capabilities of the display.
We can’t help but mention the support for HDR (high dynamic range). With its help, you can truly enjoy watching movies in Dolby Vision or HDR10 formats. Moreover, photos taken in HDR mode will look as clear and rich as possible.
Other iPhone X display features include:

This system operates on two cores. It can recognize faces and objects. During training, the system performs about 600 billion operations per second. The competent functioning of the iPhone X processor is especially noticeable during everyday use. If a person uses a smartphone only for work (sending messages, making calls, surfing the Internet), the system produces the power that is needed to perform the above tasks. Thus, the iPhone 10 does not work at the edge of its capabilities when it is not necessary. This significantly saves battery power. Particular attention should be paid to the capabilities of augmented reality. Applications that support this feature will run more smoothly. In addition, in combination with a high-quality display, the processor will make the virtual picture as clear and realistic as possible.
- Video processor. When working with graphics, a 3-core video card is used. It will provide 30% more performance than a similar element on the A10 Fusion. Any games will be played with a large number of fps, and the same augmented reality will provide the user with an exciting pastime.
- RAM. Perhaps this is the element technical stuffing, on which the engineers decided to save money. The iPhone X has 3 GB of RAM. Of course, thanks to Apple's legendary optimization, all applications will work without problems, but only on this expensive flagship I would like to see more impressive numbers.
- Physical memory. And this is the main manipulation tool from Apple manufacturers. Two variants of devices will be available for sale: with 64 and 256 gigabytes. free space. Do you also see this gap between the two types of assembly? And okay, if there were fewer opportunities in the top ten, one could turn a blind eye to such a huge discrepancy. But the iPhone X was assembled using advanced technologies, it was equipped with a powerful processor and a good graphics card. It would seem that you are allowed everything: play whatever you want, use augmented reality, take high-quality photographs. But there will be nowhere to store all this stuff. 64 GB for modern applications, music and photos is essentially nothing. What about the iPhone's traditional Touch ID fingerprint scanner? Reports from various informants in August and September 2017 made it clear that the iPhone X would not have a fingerprint scanner at all. Most likely, Apple was forced to refuse to equip its flagship with Touch ID. The reason is said to be the occurrence of serious technical problems when integrating the scanner into the smartphone display. Such a solution, without a doubt, would be revolutionary, since modern market nothing like this was presented, however, the speed and stability of fingerprint recognition left much to be desired. As a result, Apple management decided to take a rather unexpected step and exclude Touch ID from the iPhone X.
Battery
iPhone X will change both externally and internally. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to change the structure motherboard smartphone, reducing it by almost half. Due to this, under iPhone case X will have more space to accommodate the larger dual L-shaped battery. Capacity iPhone batteries X will be 2,700 mAh.
The increased capacity battery will bring the battery life of the iPhone X to the same level as the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. The new Apple product will be able to work for more than 20 hours of talk time - a very impressive figure for a smartphone with relatively small dimensions. As we have already noted, the autonomy of the iPhone X will be positively affected by the OLED display and the Apple A11 chip with increased energy efficiency.
Wireless charger
One more new feature iPhone X will become wireless charging. The smartphone will be charged wirelessly in the most classic way - on a special docking station. Initially, many insiders claimed that Apple was planning to make a technological revolution and equip the iPhone X with support for remote wireless charging, but later these rumors remained just rumors. Perhaps in the case of this technology, Apple did not go as smoothly as expected.
There are some not-so-pleasant details about the iPhone X's wireless charging feature. First of all, it is known that a docking station for charging a smartphone wirelessly will not be supplied with the smartphone. It will have to be purchased separately, most likely at a considerable price. A very strange decision from Apple, especially given that the iPhone X itself will have a very high price.
Also, the famous journalist John Gruber reported that immediately after the release of the iPhone X it will not be possible to charge wirelessly at all. The final version of iOS 11 simply will not support wireless charging. It will appear only in iOS 11.1, just as a year earlier, support for portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus appeared only in iOS 10.1. The journalist cites software problems that arose during the development of the system as the reason for the delay in the appearance of wireless charging in iOS 11.
However, the very fact of the appearance of wireless charging in the iPhone X cannot but rejoice, since for Apple smartphones this function new. There can be no doubt that wireless charging will appear in the iPhone X. In addition to the statements of analysts and insiders, it was confirmed by iOS 11. A new one was found in beta versions of the system sound file named "engage_power.caf", which the developers believe will play when the iPhone X is placed on the charging dock.
A little later, the firmware for the HomePod smart speaker also indicated the presence of wireless charging support for the iPhone X. It contained dozens of lines of code describing new type iPhone charging. Apple developers couldn’t just leave them in the code.
Fast charging
The iPhone X will also support fast charging, not through the USB-C connector, but through the traditional and familiar Lighting. The connector will receive support for Type-C Power Delivery technology, due to which the iPhone X will be able to charge “significantly faster” than previous Apple smartphones. True, at the moment there is no information about the specific charging time of the iPhone X from 0 to 100%.
Waterproof
iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were the first Apple smartphones with officially declared water resistance (IP67 protection). With the iPhone X, the company decided to go even further and make the smartphone completely waterproof. According to insiders, the iPhone X will be protected from moisture and dust according to the IP68 standard. This means that the smartphone can easily withstand long-term immersion in water to a depth of one and a half meters. The original “sevens”, let us remind you, are resistant only to short stays in water and splashes.
3D Touch and Taptic Engine
iPhone X will support pressure-sensing technology on the second-generation 3D Touch display. The improved version of 3D Touch will differ from the original in an expanded range of reading pressure levels and increased sensitivity. As stated by Ming-Chi Kuo, the new version of 3D Touch will bring with it new control gestures, although the analyst did not specify which ones.
Note that the development of a new generation of 3D Touch could become a necessary measure for Apple. Due to the transition to an OLED display, the use of the original 3D Touch technology turned out to be impossible, and therefore the company refined the technology, and at the same time made serious improvements to it.
In addition to 3D Touch, the iPhone X will also improve the Taptic Engine. The haptic feedback mechanism will gain the ability to create more complex vibrations with more realistic sensations.
Cameras
iPhone X will receive dual camera with wide-angle and telephoto lenses. The smartphone's camera will be positioned vertically and not horizontally, like a similar module in the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. Due to the original camera rotation, the iPhone X will be able to create 3D photographs. In addition to 3D photos, thanks to the vertical positioning of the iPhone X camera, it will have enhanced capabilities for working with augmented reality.
The iPhone X camera will have another interesting software feature. When shooting, it will be able to detect different scenes, automatically adjusting the parameters to suit them. Mentions of various similar scenes such as Sunset, Sunrise, Sky, Sports, Foliage, etc. were found in beta versions of iOS 11. By adapting to certain scenes, the iPhone X camera will be able to produce the best photos.
The quality of shooting from the main camera of the iPhone X will increase significantly. When studying the GM version of iOS 11, it turned out that the camera will be able to shoot video in the following new resolutions:
- 1080p HD at 240 fps,
- 4K@24fps (cinematic),
- 4K at 60 fps.
There will also be improvements for the photo mode. Both iPhone X cameras will have optical image stabilization, and the optical zoom will be four times versus two times for the iPhone 7 Plus.
No less impressive improvements await the front camera. In the iPhone X, the front camera will be supported by two new infrared sensors capable of determining the location of objects and their depth. Due to this, the front camera of Apple's flagship will receive enhanced capabilities for identifying faces and objects in photos, as well as when working with augmented reality.

How much will iPhone X cost? A question to which even the most eminent analysts give different answers. The cost of the iPhone X, according to various information, ranges from $899 to $1199 for only basic model. At the same time, even though the iPhone X will be presented very soon, they have not been able to decide on the final price of the smartphone.
The Wall Street Journal decided to bring some clarity to the confusion surrounding the pricing of the iPhone X at the end of August. According to his sources working at Apple, the iPhone X will be sold at a price of $999 for the starting version with 64 GB of memory. Full list models preparing for presentation looks like this:
