The Huawei Honor 6C smartphone, in terms of hardware, has a twin brother in the Middle Kingdom - Huawei Enjoy 6s, which was announced back in December last year. For the European market this device became known as Huawei Nova Smart. True, at first the “European” seemed to be limited in the amount of RAM and internal memory (2 GB/16 GB versus 3 GB/32 GB). But Huawei Honor 6C, presented at the beginning of April 2017, was initially eliminated from its drawback. In addition, in the model intended for Russia, everything is in order and supports “local” LTE frequency bands. According to others technical parameters the devices are almost identical. Design, ergonomics
Today, based on the appearance of a smartphone, it can be difficult to even guess its hardware. The fact is that budget devices are often “dressed” in glass and metal, with the pretense of some kind of premium quality. So, for example, from the front, Honor 6C is a smaller copy of a more advanced model.
At the same time, the metal back panel with rounded edges, complemented by radio-transparent inserts, is still adjacent to the smoothly “flowing” 2.5D protective glass for the screen. Although the Honor 6C does not have a dual camera (it is available), the appearance of the new product clearly gravitates towards more expensive devices. This is to some extent facilitated by the colors of the body - gray, silver or golden. But Honor 6C probably doesn’t have its own, original “zest.”
Note that with a thickness of 7.6 mm, the weight of the device is 138 g. The no less dapper “classmate”, made in a glass-metal “sandwich” 7.9 mm thick, weighs 139 g. At the same time, compared to its not less "iron" predecessor - - the new product has become much more elegant - (7.6 mm versus 8.3 mm) and (138 g versus 156 g).

The new smartphone has a 5-inch screen with HD resolution (1280x720 pixels). On the IPS matrix used, the pixel density per inch, taking into account the diagonal and resolution, is 294 dpi. Note that the resolution of the 5.2-inch screen is Full HD (1920x1080 pixels, 424 ppi).
The backlight level in Honor 6C is adjusted either manually or automatically using the light sensor (the "Auto-adjust" option). Viewing angles, traditionally for IPS matrices, are wide, and the picture quality, in particular for 720p video, is very good.
The main camera of Honor 6C uses a photo module with a 13-megapixel matrix and an f/2.2 lens aperture. There is also phase detection autofocus (0.5 second response time) and LED flash. With a classic aspect ratio (4:3), the maximum image resolution is 4160x3120 pixels (13 MP), and for a wide-format frame (16:9) - 4160x2336 pixels (10 MP). Examples of photos can be viewed. By the way, shooting in low light was somehow not impressive.
The front camera in Honor 6C is content with a 5-megapixel matrix, as well as a wide-angle lens with f/2.2 aperture and a viewing angle of 80 degrees, which allows you to take group self-portraits. Let us remind you that selfie lovers received an 8-megapixel sensor. The maximum self-resolution for Honor 6C is 2560x1920 pixels (5 MP, 4:3) and 2560x1440 pixels (3.7 MP, 16:9), respectively.
Both the main and front cameras provide maximum quality in Full HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels, 16:9) with a frame rate of 30 fps. In addition, interval shooting (“time lapses”) is available, but in HD quality (1280x720@30fps). All content is saved in MP4 container files (AVC - video, AAC - audio).
The Camera application interface provides seven additional shooting modes, including HDR, Panorama, Professional, Focus (changes the depth of field after shooting), etc. In addition to selecting image resolution and video quality, in the settings you can manually adjust parameters such as saturation, contrast and brightness. Presets for white balance and ISO are also available. In addition, separate correction of focus and exposure metering is provided for different points of the image on the screen. As usual, in the “professional” mode there is manual adjustment of parameters such as exposure metering method, ISO and shutter speed, exposure compensation level, focusing method, and white balance.
To create effects, a set of filters such as “Valencia”, “Monochrome”, “Nostalgia”, etc. is available. The shooting itself can be done using the volume rocker, which can also be easily assigned to be responsible for zooming the image or manual focusing. You can switch to the Camera application (also with simultaneous shooting) from the lock screen by double-clicking the volume rocker (down button).
The acoustic capabilities of the Honor 6C can hardly be called outstanding, although the “multimedia” speaker installed on the bottom end of the case sounds moderately loud and even quite clear. You can listen to tracks in high quality, for example, through a wired headset (not included), which is also useful for operating the built-in FM tuner as a shortwave antenna. Note that the proprietary Music application can play FLAC files. But the Voice Recorder program saves recordings in M4A format files (2 channels: AAC-LC encoding, 48 KHz, variable bit depth).

The Honor 6C has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 (MSM8940) chip hidden under the hood, made according to 28 nm design standards. One quartet of ARM Cortex-A53 processor cores operates at frequencies up to 1.4 GHz, and the other at up to 1.1 GHz. As we can see from the technical characteristics, Honor 6c is only a stretch approaching the mid-budget level, and the price of 14,000 rubles at the start of sales was clearly very high for it. If NFC was among its communications, the smartphone would look much more attractive. And so this device is distinguished from its predecessor only by large amounts of memory - 32 GB main and 3 GB RAM, otherwise the new 6c is inferior to its older version.
Design
Honor 6c comes in three colors - gold, silver and grey. We came across a review gray smartphone, and, having twirled it in our hands a little, we’ll say that the first impression was “very good”, but over time the effect of novelty wears off and the feeling comes that in fact, Honor doesn’t stand out in any particular way compared to its competitors from the middle segment .
The smartphone is made in a combination of plastic and metal, or rather, the phone body itself is mostly plastic, but the back cover, apparently, is made of honest hardware. Holding the phone in your hands is comfortable, the metal gives a feeling of pleasant coolness, and at the same time the device practically does not slip and does not stick together when pressed hard. But although the tactile sensations were pleasing, the completely unremarkable design haunts me: the 6c turned out to be completely faceless, a gray mass among many similar smartphones. But we don’t see much sense in this, perhaps the developers this time were not given money for the original design, perhaps the deadlines were running out and they had to send “what we have” into production, it doesn’t matter. As they say, it depends on the taste and color... Our opinion, of course, does not pretend to be a standard of taste, and perhaps someone will like this design. So we work with what we have and move on.
Display
The Honor 6c screen module is equipped with a high-quality IPS matrix and has a resolution of 1280×720 with a pixel density of 294 ppi with a diagonal of five inches. This is very, very good performance, but (attention!) - for budget segment. Compared to its competitors, Huawei Honor 6c loses a lot, since most of them have long switched to FullHD displays with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. However, low resolution is one of the few disadvantages of this model. The only thing we can highlight is the vague black color that most IPS matrices suffer from, but otherwise we really liked this display, so let’s move on to the advantages of the 6c screen.
I would immediately like to note the excellent screen brightness, which is approximately 450 cd/m2, and good anti-reflective coating. Even in very bright sunlight, the display remains quite readable, and the colors do not lose saturation. As for the colors themselves, they are moderately bright, close to natural shades. The screen does not flicker, color reproduction is correct. The color temperature is shifted towards cool shades, but if desired, the user can fine-tune it to suit themselves using a special built-in utility.
The white color is as close as possible to real white, it does not turn yellow or violet. The contrast of the smartphone is at a good level. Viewing angles are also very good, colors do not fade or invert even when the phone is turned very sharply, only white tones slightly lose their quality.
The screen is covered with tempered protective glass Gorilla Glass 3rd generation, made in 2.5D format. The phone is quite resistant to minor scratches, so if you use the device carefully, you can easily do without film or additional protective glass. The smartphone is also equipped with a very high-quality oleophobic coating. The finger glides across the screen easily, fingerprints are almost invisible and can be easily removed with a napkin. There is no air gap between the matrix and the glass, which has a positive effect on both the sensitivity of the phone and color rendition.
To sum up, we can say that the screen of the Honor 6c is made at a very good level and, so to speak, is not at all budget-friendly. However, the low resolution by modern standards completely ruins everything. If the screen had more a high resolution, there would be no complaints against him at all. And so the phone loses precisely in the point that the mass consumer first of all pays attention to when evaluating the device’s display. It turned out badly, gentlemen engineers/marketers.
Sound
Honor 6c sounds very boring and ordinary. Huawei smartphones, in principle, have never been distinguished by their special sound quality in the budget and mid-budget segment, but in this case, things somehow didn’t work out at all.
When playing, the sound, although quite clear, is completely flat, all tones are shifted to the side high frequencies, while neither mids nor bass are noticeable at all. The flash works well, and, despite its monotony, the pictures are well lit, but not overexposed. However, we immediately find significant drawback: This camera does not have a stabilization function when shooting photos, so photos in motion often turn out blurry.
In daylight conditions the camera performs quite well. The sharpness of the images is at a fairly high level, color rendition is close to natural, detail is normal in both close-up and distant plans. The camera copes well with shooting panoramas and general plans. It is a little worse at macro photography and blurring the background, but still the quality is quite acceptable. But as for photos at night, this could be described with a harsher word than just “bad.” The image immediately loses its clarity, and a great amount digital noise. It is worth noting that the “noise reduction” does a good job and often saves photos, only slightly sacrificing additional clarity, without turning the photo into outright soap.
The shooting program is traditionally equipped with many different modes and decorations, including everyone’s favorite HDR and “delicious food”. The user can also manually set white balance, focus and exposure, which will undoubtedly please those who like to experiment with the camera. If you compare the Huawei Honor 6c with the company’s more top-end representatives, then, of course, the set of functions of this model will seem very limited. On the other hand, the quality of the 6c camera is not so high that it requires all these options. In our opinion, in this case a fairly good balance has been struck between possibilities and necessity.
The Honor 6c camera can record video in FullHD format at 30 frames per second. But the video quality itself still leaves much to be desired. Even in fairly bright lighting, digital noise creeps in, detail is quite mediocre, and colors look slightly washed out. There is an electronic stabilization function, but it doesn’t help at all when shooting on the go; the picture still remains jerky and torn. The sound is also not pleasing: even with a light wind you can hear whistling and other unpleasant extraneous sounds, presence special microphone as if it has no effect on the situation at all.
