Xiaomi fitness bracelets. Offline mode: screen and gesture capabilities

Sports, fitness, health - this is a trend today, so it’s not surprising why smart fitness The bracelet gained such popularity as soon as it hit the shelves of online stores. Let us take a look at this miracle of Chinese industry and figure it out for ourselves, is this really, if not irreplaceable, then at least a useful thing, or just another fashionable toy?

Appearance of the Xiaomi Mi Band fitness bracelet

The box is made in the corporate minimalist style - rough gray cardboard that is indestructible during delivery with a logo on the top cover

And specifications on the back insert

We have no interest in looking at hieroglyphs, so I immediately opened the treasured box and appeared before my eyes...

The packaging of the device is very interesting. The product itself is immediately presented in that form. how it will look later inserted into the bracelet. Let's open the box further

and take out the contents. The kit includes:

  • Smart bracelet Xiaomi Mi Band - has a waterproof case (IP67)
  • Black silicone strap with metal rivet
  • Charger
  • Instructions

Everything is very pleasant to the touch, including the fitness tracker itself, covered in matte metal. When worn, it inevitably touches various pieces of furniture, but these contacts do not affect its appearance in any way. The strap is made of soft-touch silicone. There are enough holes to fit even the skinniest hand. The fastening is made in the form of a regular metal “rivet” made of the same material as the smart part of the gadget.

The slot for the head unit on the strap fits very tightly, so to insert it into place you need to put some effort into stretching the strap - the device fits like a glove.

In order to charge, you need to remove the device from the strap and insert the contacts into the included charging dock - unfortunately, it is impossible to charge the bracelet without removing it. Also, the kit does not include a power supply - you will have to use one from mobile phone.

In general, as far as appearance is concerned, everything is done very well and gives the impression of a high-quality device that you won’t have to hide under your shirt from your friends. At the same time, the device is very light and does not remind you of itself when worn.

How to connect Xiaomi Mi Band

Now let's figure out how to connect this Xiaomi Band to the phone and make it work. First of all, you need to download an application called “Mi Fit” - you can get it either from the search in mobile store applications, or by scanning the QR code from the instructions. There is a version of Mi Fit iOS and Android.

After installation, the program will immediately ask you for permission to receive data about your health and activities.

We give it these permissions and launch the program. Before you start working, you need to start account Xiaomi or log in to an existing one. If you are the owner of a phone from this company or MIUI firmware for Android, but most likely you already have it - remember and log in.

And finally, the last stage of connection is to select Mi Band from the Xiaomi device menu and wait until the smartphone connects to the bracelet - Bluetooth must be turned on on the phone.

If detection is successful, the LEDs on your fitness tracker will blink - touch them with your finger to confirm the connection.

But that’s not all - later, when setting up call alerts, the device will once again ask you to “pair” with the phone.

Working with a bracelet

When working with official app I noted for myself the five most useful functions. I focus specifically on the “official” program, since there is a custom version for Android, in which there are much more possibilities for interacting with the bracelet. So, three of them are immediately presented in the main window of the program. First of all, this is a pedometer. Based on the entered data on height, age and weight, the tracker counts steps and converts them into kilometers traveled and calories burned. At the same time, it adequately distinguishes walking from running, which is displayed in the final statistics

By and large, for iPhone users There is nothing new here as it has a similar built-in program that measures steps. The only thing is that we don’t carry our phone with us everywhere, but the bracelet is always on our hand and won’t miss a single move. If you bring the bracelet to your face, the LEDs will light up, signaling the extent to which you have completed the step plan for the day assigned upon registration.

The second function is sleep phase tracking. This feature uses an accelerometer that monitors the position of your hand and determines when you are sleeping soundly and when you are not. At the same time, you don’t need to specifically switch it - the tracker itself recognizes when you fall asleep. All this information is displayed in a graph and paints an overall picture of your night time. It is worth noting that there are inaccuracies in the work - for example, when you woke up early in the morning and then went to bed again, the tracker thinks that you did not go to bed again and takes into account only the first part of your sleep in the statistics.

Another option that is displayed on the main screen is physical activity. Here you can track changes in your weight, for example in combination with the use of smart Xiaomi scales.

If all the previous tips will be of interest only to avid losers and athletes, then more daily functions, which are useful to everyone, are hidden in the settings menu. For example, an alarm clock. It has two operating modes. The first is the classic one, when you set the time to wake up, adjust its frequency, and at the appointed time you will wake up from a slight vibration on your wrist, without waking up others with a loud sound.

The second, more interesting mode is the setting to trigger during the phase of light sleep, the most favorable for awakening, which precedes the set time.

Another one useful setting— notification of incoming calls to the phone. If it lies somewhere far away, or is in silent mode, then you will always know about a call by vibration. In this case, you can set the time after which the smart bracelet will vibrate after the call starts. To be honest, I really only used the alarm clock and vibration notification - the rest was just for curiosity, nothing more.

Here it is worth remembering third party application— after all, you can set up notifications not only about calls, but also about notifications from many different mobile applications, such as WhatsAp or Skype. Let's hope that in the next update official version these opportunities will also appear.

In general, the bracelet, at its low cost, provides a lot of goodies that are not sufficient for a professional athlete, but can be useful for most users in daily monitoring of their health, while providing several more useful functions for interacting with the phone.

After a week of use

After using it for a week smart bracelet, or as it is also called, the first generation Xiaomi Mi Band fitness tracker, I came to the conclusion that in reality it is just fashionable garbage. Apart from a vibration alarm clock, it does not contain any useful functions. Android owners are still lucky with the notification from various applications, but I have an iPhone, and it only provides notifications about phone calls. Pedometers are found in many smartphones, so my verdict is that they are waiting for the start of sales of the second generation with a built-in heart rate monitor.

Prices for Xiaomi Mi Band on AliExpress
Save up to 30% on online purchases

Pavel Gorodnitsky - about the pros and cons of a gadget that costs only a couple of thousand rubles and is sold in crazy quantities.

At the very end of spring, Xiaomi presented the long-awaited Mi Band 3 tracker. The initial reaction of fans was complete disappointment. Fans believed that the Chinese would integrate GPS and a color screen into the bracelet, but their hopes were not justified: if you look only at the characteristics, the third generation of the device is almost no different from the second. A little bigger screen, a little better autonomy- that's all the progress. However, in the first three weeks, Xiaomi shipped a million new Mi Bands to stores - the demand was crazy.

The device also appeared in Russia almost immediately - it could be purchased in “gray” stores or ordered directly from China. Many of my friends have already acquired this device, and I tested it for several days. A summary of impressions is below.

The main thing is the price

Xiaomi acted very cunningly: it took advantage of the brand’s popularity, saved on production and set the lowest possible price tag. All this led to the fact that all competitors were washed away from the budget tracker market - only Mi Bands remained.

The third generation of the bracelet costs only $26. In Russia they ask for 2-2.5 thousand rubles for it if you contact “gray” sellers, and a little less than two thousand if you wait for a parcel from Asia. That is why, to the question: “Why do you need it?” Most people answer like this: “It’s so cheap, why not buy it. If I lose it, break it, or just get tired of it, I don’t mind.”

You need to understand two things. Firstly, if you want to save total money on a tracker from Xiaomi, it’s wiser to go with Mi Band 2 - it now costs about a thousand rubles. Secondly, it’s stupid to buy Mi Band 3 from official retailers - they want 4 thousand for it, and this is madness. A markup of almost 2.5 times is absolute chaos, be careful.

The screen is large, but not perfect

The main feature of the Mi Band 3 is a relatively large (for a bracelet) OLED screen. It is needed to show the time and display notifications. In principle, the display copes with missions, but there are nuances. The most unpleasant minus - sunlight: It is clear that due to the very cheap matrix the screen becomes critically blind under direct rays.

The second compromise is notifications: some bracelets without flashing do not have the Russian language, so carefully study the device before purchasing. However, support for the Cyrillic alphabet is still far from ideal - there is a huge distance between the letters, so it is inconvenient to read messages.

But still, the owners of Mi Band 3 note: if you properly configure the notifications themselves, the bracelet will vibrate only in the most important cases, and this useful option. For example, when a taxi arrives and you don’t want to take your smartphone out of your pocket again.

Heart rate monitor - the most pleasant surprise

The old Mi Band 2 has a heart rate monitor, but it is more like a random number generator - you can put two bracelets on two hands, and then get significantly different indicators.

Mi Band 3 also has an error, but it is tolerable - it will definitely be suitable for monitoring fat burning when you need to train in a certain heart rate zone (for example, 135-150 beats). Therefore, for simple cardio exercises, the third Band is definitely suitable, but if you need to monitor your heart rate every second, it is better to take something more expensive. And this is logical, because a decent heart rate monitor for 2 thousand rubles is already a holiday.

What to expect from the battery?

from side to side" does not kill Mi Band 3. Although it’s really better not to abuse diving.

What are the coolest features?

Health" (it is very beautiful). Although, unfortunately, many things (including the alarm clock) can only be configured in the proprietary Mi Fit app with its peculiar Asian interface.

What is missing?

Oh, for that kind of money it’s great!”, then only one burning question remains: where is NFC?

The version with the chip will appear only in September and will cost five dollars more than the usual ($31), but there is a good chance that it will be possible to pay using the bracelet only in China. That is, at first Xiaomi says: “Pfft, we don’t put NFC in cheap smartphones, because we don’t pay that way,” and then clamps the most useful chip for the rest of the world. It’s hard to follow the logic here - especially in China, although they often pay using QR codes.

Should I buy or not?

As mentioned above, it’s best to think of the Mi Band 3 as an inconspicuous and ultra-affordable bracelet with a solid set of useful functions.

The tracker has little to do with real sports due to the low cost of the sensors - the data will still be approximate and will not be suitable for anyone except beginners and amateurs.

The Mi Band 3 cannot be called a stylish accessory either: the design is very simple and minimalistic. But the bracelet is definitely beautiful as a souvenir - the device can be presented to anyone. And this is its most win-win and universal application.

Not long ago there was an article on the site about accessories Chinese company Xiaomi. This time I want to tell you about specific device– Mi Band fitness bracelet. Its main features are typical for Xiaomi products - low cost, pleasant dim design and general high quality execution. Oddly enough, even in yet another new segment for itself, Xiaomi is able to immediately surprise; at a price of 80 yuan (about 800 rubles, it was half that before) the Mi Band can do almost everything the same as much more expensive analogues.

In the box, in addition to the pedometer module and bracelet, there is a short cable for charging the Mi Band and a couple of paper instructions.

Externally, the pedometer is very simple - it is a small module weighing 5 grams, with an aluminum cover and a matte black plastic base. The case is waterproof and certified to the IP67 standard, and also allows operation at temperatures from -20 to 70 degrees.

The module is inserted into a silicone bracelet, the fastening is very reliable, and there is practically no chance that the module will fall out.

The bracelet is fixed on the hand using a simple fastener; it is reliable, but at the same time, it does not take up much space on the bracelet. Therefore, if you are choosing an accessory for measuring sleep cycles, the Mi Band is definitely worth considering, at least because of the convenient bracelet that does not remind you of yourself during sleep.

There are three LEDs on the module that can blink different colors: orange, green, cyan and magenta (called red in the color selection menu). Light indicators Uninformative, unfortunately. Almost all they are good for is demonstrating the level of performance of your chosen load. If your daily goal is 10,000 steps, at about 3,500 the pedometer will blink one LED, indicating that a third of the task has been completed.

The pedometer also flashes during incoming call or when the alarm goes off, but at that moment you feel vibration, and the presence of a light indication is of no practical use.

Separately, I want to talk about the bracelet. As standard, you buy a Mi Band with a black silicone bracelet, and then you can buy additional bracelets for it, at this moment Colors available: yellow, orange, pink, light green, blue and blue. At the same time, as my experience shows, there may not be any bracelets available at all. I bought a pedometer at a company store in Beijing, and there were simply no colored bracelets, and only two colors were available for ordering online: yellow and blue.

Also during the presentation of the pedometer, the company demonstrated other options for bracelets, more fashionable ones. Leather bracelet and strap that wraps around the wrist several times. However, when these accessories will appear is still unknown, and knowing the speed of release of such things (look at the wooden covers for Xiaomi Mi4, they are still missing), you can’t count on a quick start of sales, it seems to me.

However, even with a black basic bracelet, the Xiaomi Mi Band looks great on the hand; it doesn’t look like a cheap trinket, but at the same time, it doesn’t stand out.

There are still few models in the list of supported smartphones, however, in fact, the pedometer works with all smartphones with Bluetooth 4.0 that support the LE profile.

For the pedometer to work, you need to download and install the program of the same name on your smartphone - Miband. Worry about what's on Google Play app displayed on Chinese, not worth it, after the first launch it will be on your English language, and if this is not enough, you can download the Russified (unofficial) version from any site, it will also work without problems with the accessory.

Immediately after installation, you need to carry out basic configuration of your profile. There is a small drawback here, the fact is that for the program to work, you need to log in to it using a xiaomi account. You can register on the website xiaomi.com, everything will be in Chinese, but Google translator will help you. Setting up a profile means choosing gender, height, weight, date of birth and a couple of other parameters. After you complete it, you will be transferred to the main program window.

The pedometer is always on (if it’s charged), so you don’t need to press any buttons on the accessory to connect it to your phone; just put the bracelet with the pedometer installed on your hand and turn it on. smartphone Bluetooth and conduct an initial search in the program.

In terms of software, the capabilities of the Mi Band are very small if you compare the program with analogues for Jawbone UP or Fitbit pedometers, for example. The application “can” show the number of steps taken, as well as the total distance traveled, walking (jogging) time and the number of calories. You can view this data in detail for the current day and in general form for previous days, and also send the results to friends (share).

If you put a bracelet with a pedometer on your wrist before going to bed, it will count the stages of sleep, separating light sleep from deep sleep. Xiaomi does not say what algorithm is used to measure it; it probably takes into account the number of “twitches” of the hand with the bracelet on and, perhaps, some other factors. One way or another, the next morning you can see exactly how you slept. Nothing special, just a graph showing the stages of light and deep sleep. The program will not advise you anything (unlike Jawbone), but this data can also be shared.

In addition to counting steps and sleep phases, Mi Band can vibrate on your hand, acting as an alarm clock, and also vibrate when your smartphone receives an incoming call or new message. A convenient opportunity, indeed. Thanks to the positive vibrations of the bracelet, you can always wear your smartphone in silent mode and at the same time be guaranteed not to miss important calls.

Finally, Mi Band allows you to keep track of exercises done in certain activities. For now, squats and jumping rope are available in the program, but you can also vote for one of several other types of exercises to be added as soon as possible.

A daily used bracelet can last about 20-30 days on a single battery charge, depending on how active you are. If you spend most of the day in the office and at home, then the Mi Band’s operating time in step counting mode “a couple of hours a day” will be more than a month. My pedometer was only 20 percent discharged in two weeks. Perhaps this is not such a gigantic advantage over other pedometers, but, on the other hand, in the case of Mi Band we see where the savings went on the screen, buttons and additional features- very good performance battery life, that's it. And also in the price, that's two.

In the official Xiaomi store and on the website the pedometer costs 79 yuan, in rubles it’s about 700-800 rubles. Even taking into account delivery and purchase on the website of some large Chinese online store, the cost of Xiaomi Mi Band will not exceed 1,500-2,000 rubles. For comparison, bracelets from Jawbone or Fitbit cost an average of 4,000-6,000 rubles, even the most inexpensive (noname) Chinese pedometers are generally a little more expensive than the Mi Band. If you need a simple, practical and extremely inexpensive accessory for counting steps and distance taken, you should pay attention to the Xiaomi Mi Band. Lack of different useful features In terms of software, it is compensated by its low cost and impressive battery life.

It's time to talk about the hottest fitness bracelet. They called it everything – from market killer to Chinese miracle! Small, but remote, and at the same time almost the cheapest. Only Xiaomi could do this.

Market picture

IN modern society fitness bracelets have become an integral part of the life of every person who more or less tries to keep track of their physical condition– despite sedentary work or simply a reluctance to play sports. Therefore, new devices in this category appear like mushrooms after rain, while most of them are functionally no different.

Most fitness bracelets have it common feature– relatively high cost, which makes you seriously think about purchasing this type of device. Official price one of the most popular Jawbone fitness bracelets UP24 in the US - $129.99. In Russia it will be about 6-7 thousand rubles.

The legendary Chinese player decided to play on this Xiaomi company. At an ultra-low price, the new Mi Band can do almost everything that its more expensive counterparts can do. How did the Chinese company manage to reduce the price of such devices so sharply? How is it worse than expensive competitors? And is it worse?

Technical characteristics of Xiaomi Mi Band:

  • Screen: absent.
  • Water and dust protection: standard IP67.
  • Strap: Detachable, multiple colors and types available to choose from.
  • Connection: Bluetooth 4.0 L.E.
  • Sensors: accelerometer, pedometer.
  • Microphone, speaker: no.
  • Indication: 3 single-color LED indicators, vibration signal.
  • Battery: 41 mAh.
  • Weight: 13g.

Equipment

The fitness bracelet, like many products from Xiaomi, comes in an “eco-friendly” box with a company logo. Active module inserted into the cutout and when you open the box, only this is visible.

Hidden underneath is a bracelet, a strap, a charging cable and instructions in Chinese.

That's all, this completes the package. What else could you expect from a $15 bracelet?

Design

A cheap Chinese bracelet is a good example of an inexpressive design. However, even here Mi Band was able to surpass many more famous competitors!

The appearance of the bracelet does not cause rejection. On the contrary, it attracts attention and at first makes you look at your hand. The bracelet itself consists of a silicone strap and a small oval active block, which attracts attention in the first place.

The active unit is a small plastic capsule weighing 5 grams with an aluminum top cover. The case is waterproof and certified according to IP67 standard. The lower part of the module is made of matte black plastic with the company logo on it. back side. On one of the faces of the block there are contacts for charging.

There are no buttons, connectors or touch zones on the main unit. Under the top cover there are three LEDs. The blinking color of the LEDs can be selected in the proprietary application. They allow you to visually track your progress directly on the bracelet. To do this, you need to raise your hand as if you were looking at a watch.

One lit LED means that less than a third of the set steps have been completed, two – more than 2/3, and all three LEDs symbolize the completion of the specified daily number of steps. When connected to charging, the LEDs clearly show how much longer the device needs to be charged (the logic repeats the tracking of current progress).

The module is inserted into a tight silicone strap. It provides a tight fit and hold active block inside, so the likelihood of the block popping out of the strap is minimal.

The bracelet is fixed on the hand using a simple fastening - a plastic pin made in the style top cover active block. Thanks to the availability large number holes for fastening the bracelet can be worn on hands of any size and thickness. The mount itself is reliable and does not take up much space on the bracelet.

Due to this fastening, the bracelet does not remind you of itself while being worn. This is especially true for those who want to wear this bracelet around the clock and track their sleep phases. The modular design of the bracelet allows replace the strap, if you have lost it, damaged it, or are simply tired of it.

For these cases, the manufacturer offers multi-colored silicone straps and also promises to release stylish leather ones.

Proprietary application and indication

Branded application Mi Fit Available for both Android and iOS. After installing the application, the user is prompted to basic settings your profile.

After this, you are asked to pair the bracelet with your smartphone. The bracelet itself always on(if charged), so to connect, just turn on Bluetooth on your smartphone and search for the bracelet in the application.

There is also a running assistant, which requires GPS enabled– and a smartphone in your pocket or backpack.

However, if we compare this program with analogues for more expensive models of sports trackers, its capabilities are not impressive in variety.

In addition to simple statistics tracking, the bracelet can perform smart alarm functions, vibrating on the hand. The bracelet can also vibrate during the day to notify you of incoming calls or new messages. Undoubtedly convenient opportunity, because at any time you can transfer your smartphone to silent mode and not be afraid to miss important calls.

Autonomy

With daily active use bracelet (pedometer, smart alarm clock, display of all notifications, running assistant) can work for 20-25 days on a single battery charge. If the Mi Band works in step counting mode for several hours a day, it can work more than 30 days! With my fairly active use, the bracelet worked without recharging for about a month.

The bracelet is charged using a special charger and takes approximately 1.5 hours.

conclusions

Cheap Chinese pedometer turned out to be high quality a device that successfully copes with its functions. Mi Band is inferior in functionality to some analogues, but only in terms of software. The lack of "chips" is more than compensated by the low cost of the device, as well as excellent battery life (No votes)
