If you find yourself in an emergency situation, or witness an accident, disturbance of public order, accident, fire, crime or other incident, you can always call the single emergency number 112. The single number 112 is free. It is also available in situations such as being outside the reception area of your mobile network, lacking money in your account, as well as when your SIM card is blocked and missing. You can call it not only from landline and mobile phones, but also from pay phones.
Emergency number 112 is not a replacement for existing emergency response service numbers, just as you can still call numbers 01, 02, 03, 04 from landlines and numbers 101, 102, 103 and 104 from mobile phones.
Calling a single number is permissible only in cases of emergency and for the purpose of consulting on methods of protection against emergencies and safety issues. Please do not disturb the operators if you need help in other areas.
If the operator does not answer you immediately after dialing the number, you should not hang up the call. Otherwise, the operator’s work will be complicated (he will be forced to call you back), and you will end up at the end of the queue waiting for an answer, because each call is perceived as new. Despite the stressful situation, try to speak to the operator as calmly and clearly as possible. During the conversation, the operator will be able to ask you many questions. Don't get annoyed by this, because in this way he is trying to present a holistic picture of the situation, and answer succinctly. The operator will also give you some instructions; follow them accurately and in a timely manner.

The goals of creating System-112 in Russia are:
- organizing a set of measures aimed at improving interaction and speeding up the response of emergency services when reporting incidents;
- organization of calls to emergency services using the “one window” principle;
- unification of the method of calling emergency services in Russia with the legislation of the European Union.
The main tasks of System-112 are as follows:
- if the connection with the operator is suddenly interrupted, the connection is automatically restored;
- analysis of information about incidents;
- maintaining a database of the main characteristics of incidents, as well as the beginning, end and main results of emergency response to incident reports;
- receiving incident reports in foreign languages;
- informing about incidents and reports about them to emergency dispatch services, in accordance with their jurisdiction, in order to organize an emergency response;
- informing unified duty dispatch services of municipalities;
- remote psychological support for people who called 112;
- receiving incident reports by number 112;
- receiving information from the operator about the location of the person who called the single emergency number 112, and/or where the subscriber device from which the call was made is located, as well as other information necessary to respond to an incident report;
- registration of all calls to 112, both incoming and outgoing.

Service-112 was created so that in an emergency situation citizens could call a single number and call several emergency services at once, including fire brigade, rescuers, police, ambulance, emergency gas service and the Anti-Terror service. A similar system has been operating in foreign countries for many years. In the European Union, emergency services receive reports of incidents using the same number “112”, and in the USA the number “911” operates.
In Russia, until recently, it was possible to call the number “112” only from a mobile phone, but now this can also be done from a landline phone.
When should you contact 112?
If there is a fire or accident, you witness a crime, smell a strong odor of gas, are a victim of domestic violence, or if you or someone else has a medical emergency.
What should you do when you call a single number?
You will have to answer in detail the operator's questions about the nature of the incident and the services whose help you need.
Be sure to report the scene of the incident! This is necessary to ensure that emergency services immediately go to the right address while you continue to answer the operator's questions.

In what cases should you not call 112?
If the incident or crime has already happened in the past and is not happening when you call, emergency services will not be able to help you.
You should also not contact the 112 service if your power or water is turned off, you see an abandoned vehicle, you are bothered by loud barking dogs or noisy neighbors upstairs, etc. In addition, the 112 service operators do not provide information.

When you hang up the call, the operator will try to call you back and if there is no answer, they will dispatch emergency response to you. This is done so that a person can get help even in a situation where he cannot answer the operator’s questions. Don't make false calls.
A single emergency number is starting to work in Russia. Now you can call the police, fire department and ambulance by calling 112. The innovation has already been appreciated in Tatarstan, Kursk and Astrakhan regions.
On August 12, amendments to federal legislation come into force. Now the 112 emergency system has been approved at the state level. Regions have more authority to create such a service.

The number "112" is not random. An analogue of the European emergency system. These figures are familiar to residents of many countries. The European Union began introducing the system back in 1998. One of the inventions is the ability to make not only calls, but also send SMS asking for help. In Russia they are currently working on this.
“The system provides the ability to receive SMS by number “112”. This technology is currently at the development stage,” says Sergei Mogilnikov, deputy head of the Department of Information Technologies and Communications of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
This service has already been successfully launched in Tatarstan. During this time, all guests could write and call the international standard emergency service. Regions of Russia, at their discretion, are allowed to introduce foreign languages and languages of their territory.
“The constituent entities of the Russian Federation themselves determine in which foreign languages they receive calls,” Mogilnikov confirms.

Fire service should be called upon the mere suspicion that somewhere there is a smell of smoke or a flame is developing. When reporting a fire, it is necessary to say that people are in danger and whether there are dangerous substances. The fire service provides for departure on unclear, erroneous suspicions.
