So new Android capabilities 6.0 may seem inconvenient at first: before, let's say, you knew exactly which menu page you needed to scroll to in order to launch the application - and many did this automatically, without thinking - but now you have to put up with quickly scrolling through the list and try to get to the desired icon from the first times.

In order not to search for a long time, you can move frequently used applications to the desktop, say, combine them into folders or install widgets - you will say, and you will be right. But Google also offers a third way: now the 4 most frequently used programs will hang in a separate block in the application menu. So to speak, a quick access menu. The order of programs in this “four” and its “composition” can change not only based on how often you use this or that application, but also when exactly you prefer to use them. Thus, if you have a smartphone/tablet in your hands - not only for checking social networks and games, and you and your gadget live according to a schedule - you go for morning runs on Mon-Wed-Fri, on Saturdays you read books, and on Sundays you prefer to listen random selections on Soundcloud - the system will take this into account, and in the application menu header it will look different every day.

Plus, applications in this menu can be searched by alphabetical index: if you scroll, sticking to the right edge of the display, you will see the alphabet. When there are really a lot of applications, this option can be useful. Although the easiest way to search for the program you need is to use the search bar, located in the same menu above the four favorite programs. Start entering the name - the system will find the desired program in the list of installed ones or in Google Play, if suddenly it is not on your device.

One more thing: the new version of Android offers to delete applications directly from the desktop. Let us remind you that in previous versions In the OS, it was only possible to clear the desktop of icons, and deleting applications was only possible from the menu. Here's what, and the update of this menu back in Android LolliPop confused many users. The fact is that the menu that allows you to give priority to certain applications to notify you about updates was in fact of little use to anyone - it was done, perhaps, with the best intentions, but it did not look like something practical. The “Do not disturb” mode in the new Android has three variations: “Complete silence”, “Alarm clock only” and “Important only”, which determine when and which applications can notify you about something. Doze mode will provide energy savings at such a level that wow! In theory, of course. And this theory sounds something like this: than more smartphone or the tablet is in sleep mode, the better. On that Google times intends to euthanize them even more often. At the same time, so that the user does not miss notifications or calls, the devices will do this when the person is not nearby.

Let us remind you that the Terminator and the Matrix are just around the corner, that is, a modern phone has so many sensors that it knows where it is, whether it is moving or not, and whether there are people nearby at all. Actually, this is the whole idea - if there are no people nearby, then you can “sleep”, or, in other words, all background processes will be turned off, leaving only the most minimum required for work.

That is, Doze is activated if you leave your mobile device and go somewhere, or just go to sleep - in this case, the discharge rate will be noticeably reduced. We'll see how this works in practice, but the idea doesn't look stupid anyway.

USB Type-C support

The USB Type-C standard or simply USB-C is gradually gaining popularity. Let us briefly recall that it appeared along with the USB 3.1 specification, one of the main features of which was doubling the interface bandwidth to 10 Gbps relative to USB 3.0. Well, USB Type-C is a connection type that involves a new connector that can be the same on all devices.


Of course, the ability to connect a cable to either side is not the main feature of USB Type-C. On top of this, it adds many additional features, including advanced charging capabilities according to the USB Power Delivery 2.0 specification. In particular we're talking about about a current of 1.5 and 3.0 A at a voltage of 5 V.


Android 6.0, as you guessed, supports USB Type-C, and with it also advanced charging modes. No, we are not only talking about increased amperage, which gives an increase in charging speed, but also about things like recharging other devices. The point is that it will be possible to charge phones, smartphones and tablets from each other: a phone from a tablet, a smartphone from a tablet, and even a tablet from a smartphone, as well as other “perverted” options. It is unlikely that this function will be in demand everywhere and by everyone, but in certain situations it will be useful.

In addition, MIDI keyboards can be connected to devices running Android 6.0 and with a USB Type-C connector. This will further expand the multimedia component of Android.

Search Google Now in apps

In fact, this feature is called “Google Now on Tap” and it is called if you long press the Home button. Once launched, Google Now will “scan” what’s on the screen and offer a card with additional information.
