What needs to be done to distribute Wi-Fi. Virtual Wi-Fi hotspot using third-party applications

To connect several devices to the Internet at once, including wirelessly, most often a classic Wi-Fi router is used. Modern routers do an excellent job of providing a reliable and interference-resistant connection, but a router may not always be at hand. A standard situation - you decided to spend several days at the dacha and took with you only a laptop with a USB modem. It would be nice to be able to connect to the Internet through it not only on your laptop computer, but also on mobile gadgets such as a smartphone or iPod. Those. there is a need to use the laptop as a separate point Wi-Fi access, to which, by analogy with a regular router, other devices can be connected. If anyone didn’t know, the functionality for implementing such a task is built into the operational Windows systems 7/10, the main thing is that your laptop is equipped with a wireless adapter.

So, in this article, in a step-by-step manner, we will consider all the main ways to distribute Wi-Fi from a laptop running under Windows control 7 or Windows 10. We will create an access point both using the system itself and using the most popular third-party programs. The Internet source for the laptop will be a 3G modem from one of the operators mobile communications. However, all the schemes discussed will work in the case of normal wired connection Internet.

Creating a virtual Wi-Fi router via the command line

For users who are not friends with command line, this method will probably seem quite complicated and tricky. However, if you follow the instructions exactly, then no problems should arise. Most importantly, this method is universal, i.e. works in both Window 7 and Windows 10, and does not require the installation of any additional applications.

First of all, let's launch the command line itself as an administrator. You can do this through the search bar of the Start menu by clicking on “Command Prompt” right click and selecting "Run as administrator". In Windows 10, simply right-click on the Start menu icon and select “Command Prompt (Admin).”

In the console we immediately execute the command netsh wlan show drivers in order to make sure that in this moment The laptop's Wi-Fi adapter is capable of operating in access point mode. After entering the specified command press Enter and look for the line “Hosted Network Support”.

If “Yes” is next to it, then everything is in order and you can move on to the next step, but if it says “No”, then there is no point in continuing, since the adapter is not ready to distribute Wi-Fi. The reasons for the lack of hosted network support can be very different - from incorrectly installed (or old) drivers to incompatibility current version Windows with installed equipment. Ways to solve similar problem We devoted a separate article (see “”), so now we will not focus on them and will move on.

On at this stage we need to enter a command to initialize what is being created virtual host Wi-Fi. She looks like this:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=InternetNout key=87654321

  • InternetNout – name of the wireless network;
  • 87654321 – password.

If everything went well, a corresponding message will appear, as in the screenshot.

Now we launch our network with the command netsh wlan start hostednetwork, after which we should see the message “The hosted network has started.”

You need to check whether a new wireless connection has indeed appeared. Go to the “Network and Sharing Center” and find the network we created InternetNout.

True, its status is “Without network access”, which categorically does not suit us. In order for a virtual Wi-Fi point to be able to distribute the Internet, it must gain access directly to the connection through which the laptop itself receives the Internet. In our case it is Ethernet 3.

Click on it, and then click on the “Properties” button.

Next, go to the “Access” tab and check the box next to “Allow other network users to use the Internet connection” of this computer" Below, select the target connection from the drop-down list. We have this “Connection by local network* 14".

Click “OK” to apply the parameters. Now in the network control center the status InternetNout changed to “Internet”, which is what we wanted.

We pick up the smartphone and in the corresponding settings section we check whether the device sees the created Wi-Fi point. If all the steps described above are completed, the network will certainly be detected. Click on it, enter the password and wait for the connection to occur.

The laptop will start distributing the Internet to our smartphone via Wi-Fi. The command allows you to display information about the network, for example, the number of connected clients netsh wlan show hostednetwork. To disable the access point, run the command netsh wlan stop hostednetwork.

Distributing Wi-Fi using a computer-to-computer wireless network in Windows 7

This method allows you to create an access point without any manipulations with the command line, but the method only works in Windows 7. First, open the “Network and Sharing Center”, and then follow the link “Set up a new connection or network”.

In the window that opens, select the item “Set up a wireless computer-to-computer network,” and then click “Next.”

Fill in the “Network name” and “Security key” fields, then click “Next” again.

A window will appear notifying you that the network is ready to use. At the same stage, you are prompted to enable Internet connection sharing. This must be done by clicking on the appropriate link.

Now all that remains is to wait for the operation to complete.

To see the newly created network, in the “Network and Sharing Center” on the left, you need to click on the “Manage wireless networks” link.

Here you can manage connections - delete, add, change properties, set priority.

Mobile hotspot in Windows 10

In Windows 10, it is possible to very quickly organize an access point for mobile devices through the Settings utility. Launch the application and go to the “Network and Internet” section. In the menu on the left, select “ Mobile hotspot».

If the laptop is connected to the Internet wired or using a USB modem, on the page that opens you can allow sharing Internet connections across multiple devices. That is, the same Wi-Fi access point will appear through which the Internet will be distributed from the laptop to other devices. To activate the hotspot, move the slider located at the top to the “On” position.

The network name and password to access it will be indicated below (they are generated automatically). The network exists (we call it DESKTOP-EHJUIN4 3118), but does not yet have access to the Internet, as you can verify by going to the network control center.

To open this access, you need to repeat all the same steps that we performed when working with the command line. We go to the Properties of the connection responsible for “supplying” the Internet to the laptop, and on the “Access” tab, put a checkmark next to the corresponding item. Select from the list below required connection, for which we open access to the Internet. Save the changes with the OK button.

We make sure that the network is now connected to the Internet.

We connect to it on a smartphone or any other device.

Popular programs for distributing Wi-Fi from a laptop

If all the above methods do not suit you or if they did not help you distribute the Internet, it makes sense to use third party programs, of which there are a great many. We will look at the two most convenient in our opinion.

MyPublicWiFi

This application has a lot positive feedback and has simple interface, which allows you to start distributing the Internet via Wi-Fi from a laptop after just a couple of clicks. Download the program from the official website mypublicwifi.com and install it on your laptop. During installation you will need to restart your laptop. Next, run the utility and set the settings virtual point access.

We enter the network name and password, and also indicate the connection through which the Internet will be distributed via Wi-Fi. Starts virtual network by pressing the “Set up and Start Hotspot” button. The program has minimal settings, so understanding them will not be difficult.

Connectify Hotspot

Another one popular program, providing the opportunity to easily distribute Wi-Fi from a laptop to anyone portable devices. Download Russian version utilities at http://www.connectify.me/ru/, install it and restart the computer. Let's launch the program. On the Settings tab we see that the application can operate in several modes. By default, the “Access Point” mode is selected WiFi hotspot" - this suits us. We set the parameters of the virtual router approximately as in the screenshot below.

Please note that we have created a new wireless point access, receiving the Internet through the same Wi-Fi. The program allows this configuration. Having completed all the settings, launch the point by clicking the button at the bottom of the window. After a few seconds of waiting, the network should appear. We find it on the smartphone and connect after entering the password.

We did not encounter any difficulties - after a successful connection, the Internet distribution from the laptop occurred as if it were a regular router. Data about everyone connected to your Wi-Fi users will appear in the Clients tab of the Connectify Hotspot app.

Note that to create an access point we used the free version of the program, the functionality of which turned out to be quite sufficient. If you need advanced features, you will, of course, have to pay.

This is probably all we wanted to tell you about the topic of distributing Wi-Fi from a laptop using Windows 7/10 or using special programs. If virtual router does not want to be created, then most likely there are problems with the adapter drivers or it does not support operation in access point mode at all (the second is unlikely). If the network appears, but after connecting to it the sites do not load, then public access to the Internet is not open or is blocked by a firewall/antivirus. Write about any difficulties you encounter in the comments below, and we will work together to try to help you.

There is often a situation when the Internet is connected to one computer or laptop, and there is a need to distribute this Internet to other devices. Smartphone, tablet, or other computer. If you came to this page, then most likely you know that you can distribute Wi-Fi from a computer and without a router. It’s better, of course, to buy an inexpensive router, connect the Internet to it, and it will distribute it to all devices. But this is not always possible. It is in such cases that you can use a laptop or computer with a Wi-Fi adapter as a router.

There are several ways to launch a virtual Wi-Fi network and force your computer to distribute the Internet. I would highlight three methods: using commands via the command line, via a mobile hotspot, and using third-party programs. Now we will take a closer look at each method. You can choose a more suitable option for yourself and proceed to setup using the instructions that you will find in this article, or using the links that I will leave during the writing process.

How to distribute the Internet via Wi-Fi from a computer:

  • Via the command line. This is the most popular method that works in Windows 7, Windows 8 (8.1) and Windows 10. You need to launch the command line, run a few commands, and open general Internet access. After this, the computer will begin broadcasting a wireless network to which you can connect your devices and use the Internet. I have already prepared two detailed instructions: , And . The instructions are almost the same, they are simply written based on the example of different operating systems.
  • Using the Mobile Hotspot feature. This standard function, which appeared in Windows 10. Everything is much simpler there. Just set the Wi-Fi network name, password, select a connection for sharing, and launch the access point. Setup instructions: . If you have ten installed, I advise you to try this method first. It has its own nuances, which I wrote about in the article linked above.
  • Using third party programs. There are many both free and paid programs with which you can launch a virtual Wi-Fi network on your computer. In fact, these programs also start distribution via the command line, just a little more convenient. No need to copy commands, etc., just click on the button. But these programs do not always work stably and correctly. I also wrote about them in a separate article: .

The instructions to which I provided above are quite sufficient to set everything up. But since I decided to make one large and general article on this topic, I will write for each method detailed guide. Of course with pictures.

Note! If you want to distribute Wi-Fi without a router using a desktop computer (PC), then you must have a Wi-Fi adapter. Internal or external, which is connected via USB. I wrote about such adapters. In laptops this adapter is built-in.

It doesn’t matter whether you have a PC or a laptop – Wi-Fi should work. Driver for wireless adapter must be installed, and the "Wireless Network" or "Wireless" adapter must be in the list of connections. network connection". To check whether you can start Wi-Fi distribution, run a command prompt as an administrator and run the command netsh wlan show drivers. Next to the line "Hosted network support" should be "yes".

Let's move on to the settings.

How to distribute Wi-Fi via the command line?

Let me remind you that this method is suitable for Windows 10, Windows 8 and Windows 7.

You need to run the command line as an administrator. In Windows 7, open "Start", then "All Programs" - "Accessories". Right-click on "Command Prompt" and select "Run as Administrator". In Windows 10 and 8, you can simply right-click on the Start menu and select "Command Prompt (Admin)."

Copy and execute (using the Enter key) the following command:

netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid="my_wi-fi_network" key="12345678" keyUsage=persistent

This command specifies the name ssid="my_wi-fi_network" and password key="12345678" for a Wi-Fi network that will be distributed by a PC or laptop. You can change your name and password if you wish.

To start the access point itself you need to run next command:

This is the result you should get after executing the first and second commands:

Devices can already be connected to running Wi-Fi networks, but only the Internet will not work yet. Need to open public Internet access.

To do this, go to " Network connections" (Network and Sharing Center - Change adapter settings). Right-click on the connection through which you are connected to the Internet and select "Properties".

Next, on the “Access” tab, you need to check the box next to “Allow other network users to use this computer’s Internet connection” and select a new connection from the list. The connection name will contain a number (not necessarily the same as in my screenshot), and below is the name of the network, which is indicated in the first command.

netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

And run it again with the command:

netsh wlan start hostednetwork

After these steps, you can connect to a Wi-Fi network called "my_wi-fi_network" (if you haven't changed it), and use the Internet. As you can see, without Wi-Fi router.

If you encounter a problem where devices cannot connect to an access point, or connect but the Internet does not work, then first of all, disable your antivirus and firewall. Also see the articles, links to which I will provide below.

Might be useful:

  • – when there is no access tab, drop-down list, etc.
  • - solutions to various problems. Including errors "The hosted network could not start. The group or resource is not in in the right condition to perform the required operation."

It should be noted that a computer does not always willingly turn into a router. Sometimes you need to dance with a tambourine :)

Set up Mobile Hotspot (Windows 10 only)

IN in this case everything is much simpler. Open "Options" (the button with the gear icon in the Start menu) and go to the "Network and Internet" section.

The "Mobile hotspot" tab contains all the settings for this function. The network name will be written there and network password. If you want to change them, click on the "Change" button. Set new ones and save.

If any problems occur, disable your antivirus and firewall.

Often in one family it is necessary for several gadgets to simultaneously have access to the Internet, and it is not necessary to buy a router for this. Laptops can even be used as an Internet access point, that is, they can replace a Wi-Fi router. Moreover, a similar function can be configured on almost every modern machine that has a Wi-Fi module. This functionality can be implemented in several ways.

The article discusses several methods, everyone will choose the best one for themselves. For some it will be convenient to install one of the programs necessary for this on a laptop, while for others it will be convenient to use standard Windows features. Read more about this below.

Wi-Fi distribution without additional software

You need to proceed according to the following scheme:

How to enter the parameters of the new network into startup?

To avoid having to carry out the above steps every time you boot the laptop, you will need to save the settings without wired connection according to the following instructions:

After these steps, every time you turn on the laptop, you will not need to create a Wi-Fi point.

Third-party programs for distributing Wi-Fi

Available great amount software that allows you to carry out similar procedures in just a couple of clicks. Let's look at the most accessible programs.

The main advantage of this software product is its simplicity. You don't need to adjust anything, climb into system folders and documents - the program itself does all this for you. You can download it at official resource developers, because it is free.

For start Virtual Router Plus, just click on the corresponding icon and a screen will appear in front of you where you indicate the following information:

  • The name of your Wi-Fi network.
  • Password to access it.
  • The connection through which the signal will be relayed.

This program is suitable for more advanced users who need accurate Wi-Fi network settings from a laptop. It is also necessary to indicate certain information: point name, password, and also select a relayed connection. In addition, you can configure the operating mode of your personal network. For example, it will turn off in sleep mode or continue to function even in sleep mode. The functionality also provides the ability to view the list of users who are connected to you. This software is also free.

The difference between this program and the previous one is that it does not support an interface in Russian.

A free version of the software is available. The advantage of the program is that it works great on all versions operating system Windows. It is used according to the following program:

Once the program is installed, after restarting the laptop, it opens as administrator. In the new window you will need to specify the network name, a password of 8 or more characters, and the connection through which Wi-Fi will be distributed. The final stage is to click on the “Set up and Start Hotspot” button:

Not worth buying similar programs. As a rule, they have similar functionality to free software and are exclusively commercial product, which is aimed at making money from inexperienced users.

How to share Wi-Fi from a Mac laptop?

On Apple brand laptops this procedure can be done somewhat easier using built-in tools:
  • Go to system settings and find the parameter “ General access».
  • In the column located in the upper left corner, click on “Internet Sharing”.
  • In the window that appears, we carry out the initial connection adjustment. To do this, we select the type of Internet connected directly to the laptop itself, as well as the distribution method, that is, Wi-Fi. Click " Wi-Fi Settings».
  • In the window that appears, enter the name of the network, and also select the type of password protection – WPA2. After this, enter a password consisting of a combination of symbols and numbers (at least 8 characters).
To connect the created access point, just click the “Connect” button in the pop-up window.

Video: 3 ways to distribute Wi-Fi

In the video instructions you will clearly see three instructions for carrying out this operation:

Often, users need to provide multiple gadgets worldwide network. However, the purchase of special equipment will require certain funds. But there are other ways. In this article we will tell our blog readers how to distribute WiFi from a laptop to Android tablets or smartphones.

There are several ways to distribute the Internet from a laptop to Android devices, which we will talk about now.

In order to ensure the distribution of wifi from a laptop with Windows OS to Android (or any other device), several conditions must be met, and they are mandatory regardless of which method you prefer.

  • The laptop must be equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter (in the case of desktop computer, then you will probably need to have external receiver with connection to USB/PCI connector).
  • The Wi-Fi adapter must have a driver that supports Virtual WiFi installed. If the virtual network does not start, you will need to update the Wireless adapter to the latest current version.
  • The laptop must be connected to the Internet, which will be active.

Using Windows 7 Tools

This option is quite simple and does not require the installation of additional software. However, you need to take into account that the tools with which you can distribute Wi-Fi are available in an OS with an edition no lower than Professional.

So what we have to do:

On your laptop, click “Start” in the lower left corner of the screen and go to Control Panel:

Now select “Network and Sharing Center”:

*If sorting is set to categories on your PC, select “Network and Internet”.

Here we must click on the line “Set up a new connection or network”:

From the list of connection options that opens, select “Computer-to-computer” and click the “Next” button:

Now enter the network name (optional), create a password and check the box “Save the settings of this network” so as not to enter a password every time you connect:

That’s all, now you can distribute the Internet from your laptop (or computer) by connecting an Android device.

Using the command line

First you need to check whether it is possible in principle to distribute from your PC. To do this, on the laptop, press the button “ Start" and enter in the search bar " cmd»:

After the system finds the program, open it, this will be the command line:

Now we need to enter the command " netsh wlan show drivers"(without quotes). After this, information will open in which we find the line Hosted Network opposite it should be written “ Yes"(for settings in Russian: " Hosted network support»: « Yes»):

So, if our laptop supports distribution, then we return to the command line again and enter the settings for the network distributed by the device: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssidMyWIFI"key=" 12345678 ". Where ssid— network name, it can be set arbitrarily (in the screenshot MyWIFI), A key— password, we also specify it arbitrarily (in the screenshot “ 12345678 «):

Now all that remains is to configure our newly created network. To do this, follow the path described above: “Start” - “Control Panel” - “Network Control Center”, on the left side of the window we find “Change adapter settings”, open it, find your network, right-click on it, in the window that pops up activate “Properties”:

In a new window on top panel Click the “Access” tab and, by checking the box, we give permission to other users to use the Internet connection from their PC. In the field below, select your network and click “OK”:

Now we can connect our Android device via Wi-Fi to the Internet, which is distributed by the laptop.

Possible problems:

  • The smartphone does not connect to the created network

Most likely, a firewall, antivirus or other similar programs are blocking the connection. We disable them, and if everything starts to work, then you need to add your connection to the antivirus exceptions.

  • Gadgets connect, Wi-Fi is active, but the Internet does not work.

Perhaps the settings did not allow general access to the Internet. You need to make sure that the Internet is working on the distributing laptop, check the settings for permission to share, restart the PC and start the network again.

Starting the network after rebooting the computer

This does not require entering a network or password, just enter the following command - netsh wlan start hostednetwork

How to open a hotspot on a smartphone

So, if one of the methods described above gave positive result, we just need to provide access to Wi-Fi on the Android device. This is done quite simply:

*On your device, the items may have a different name, for example: “ Settings» — « More» — « Modem mode» — « Wi-Fi hotspot».

Distributing wifi from a laptop using third-party software

If none of the described options suits you, then you can easily and simply get what you want by installing one of the applications. I'll tell you about Connectify program, with which you can distribute the Internet without much effort.

You can download Connectify from the official website of the developer, where you can get acquainted with the functionality and capabilities of the program in more detail.

Briefly introducing the program, I will say that this is a tool that programmatically provides Internet distribution without the help of a router, while assigning a Wi-Fi adapter built into the motherboard as a distribution device.

The application is distributed on a paid and free basis. The free version provides use of the WiFi sharing function. After downloading Connectify we will need to agree to license agreement. Then, after waiting for the installation to complete, we reboot the system (button Reboot now).

After the restart, a corresponding icon will appear on the desktop, open the program, go to the “ Settings" (settings). Here we are interested in three points in which you will need to enter the following data:

  • « Hotspot Name" - network name, in free version The one you see in the screenshot is available.
  • « Password"—password containing at least eight characters.
  • « Internet to Share"- here, by clicking the button, select from the drop-down list the active connection that we will use

That's all the settings, all you have to do is press the " Start Hotspot" and start the distribution process. We will see that the WiFi sign has turned blue, and in “ Disconnected Clients» the changed access point status and encryption type will appear.

You can connect your Android smartphone to the created network (activate the access point and enter the password), and if everything went well, a message about connecting a new device will appear below:

If you still have questions on the topic of how to distribute Internet to Android from a laptop, write to us and we will be happy to answer them. I have nothing more to add. Good luck!

Rhythm modern technologies forces us to stay online all the time. Otherwise we will miss all the news, several letters to email, Viber call, Facebook invitation, new status on Twitter and so on. Technology keeps us informed of all events, and this forces us to constantly be online.

Internet signal transmission methods

There are two most obvious ways to transmit an Internet signal: over wires and using Wi-Fi technology. The first implies the bulkiness and stationary nature of the network access point: we need an Internet port connected to our PC. It, in turn, cannot be moved around the apartment, due to which the device becomes stationary in some way.

The second method is now more common. It is designed very simply - a transmitter is installed somewhere in one place, which wirelessly distributes a signal to access the Internet in the space around it. Thus, every device that falls within this zone can connect to the network without any restrictions on movement. That is why today connecting the Internet via a WiFi router is more popular than creating access using wires.

Creating a wireless network

Anyone can create their own wireless network. To do this, you only need the appropriate equipment - a signal transmitter that will create that very zone wireless connection around you. This is a WiFi router. Working with it is quite simple and comfortable - you only need to configure it once in order for it to continue to work in the future. permanent basis without any changes.

You need to start organizing a wireless network by purchasing the router itself and connecting it to an access point - the source of the Internet signal. Most often these are wires going to your apartment or office. Through them, the router receives the signal, converting it into waves. For this reason, Internet speeds over WiFi may be slightly slower, especially if we're talking about about many devices. True, if you buy powerful router, you will not notice any speed restrictions.

Setting up the router

Of course, except easy connection device to the point where the wires exit, you also need to take care of adapting it, in other words, setting the parameters of your connection. This is due to the fact that there are different technologies Internet signal transmission, which is why each router must be configured individually. In addition, this should also include the data of the wireless network itself - the access key (password required to connect), as well as the name (how Wi-Fi network will be displayed on different devices).

Home WiFi Internet, accessible through a router, only needs to be configured once to use it in the future without changes. You can do this too with the help of a special assistant built into the device itself. program level. And to do this you need to connect the router to the PC and download installation disk(or drivers downloaded from the Internet) so that your computer recognizes it. After this, you can go through the setup stage - go to the “Administrative Center” of the device (this is done from the browser by going to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1). Then you can simply follow the assistant’s instructions - and you won’t go wrong.

Transfer via laptop

Of course, there is a connection using a router worthy alternative. This is a signal distributed through your laptop. Why not a desktop PC? Yes, because the main condition in this scheme is the presence of a Wi-Fi adapter, which may not be included with a stationary one computer unit. Therefore, we answer the question of how to distribute the Internet via WiFi from a laptop. Again, make sure your model has this adapter. Well, read the instructions that we outlined in this article to be able to do the same.

In general, the Internet through WiFi laptop opens up a lot of possibilities. For example, you can use your computer as a signal receiver from a wired connection and subsequently transmit it wirelessly as a Wi-Fi network to other devices. This will allow you to use your tablet and smartphone without restrictions without turning off your laptop.

This kind of Internet distribution significantly saves money - you can pay for access to one device, while ensuring the connection of several at once. Or distribute the network to friends, for example. Therefore, remember the techniques that can help organize this.

Distribution on Windows

First of all, we will describe the method that the developers of the Windows operating system themselves offer as the simplest and most convenient for transmitting a Wi-Fi signal. Understanding how to distribute the Internet via WiFi from a laptop using this method is not that difficult.

First you need to go to the “Network Center”, where there will be an item “Set up a new connection”. This is what we need, after which the system will offer to run the “Network Connection Setup Wizard”. Select it, then click “Next”. We get the menu “Setting up a wireless network Computer-Computer”, where there are no settings or fields to fill out, just a bunch of information.

We skip it and click “Next” until three fields are highlighted. The first is called “Network name” - here we will enter the name of our Wi-Fi network, which will be seen by other devices. The second field is the Security Type drop-down menu. Just remember that we need to select WPA2-Personal. Even lower is the third field - this is the password. It serves to ensure that no one else can connect to the Internet via the WiFi we created. After that, click “Next”. The last step there will be a choice of access level. We need the item “Enable Internet connection sharing”, then click close. As you can see, our network is ready. Anyone who knows the password can log in.

Additional programs

We looked at how to distribute the Internet via WiFi from a laptop, but there are several more ways. It is very convenient to work with third-party programs. IN Lately There are a lot of them released - for example, Connectify, MyPublicWiFi, mHotSpot and others. Among these programs there are a lot of both paid and free options, but they are all united by similar functionality and goal - creating wireless networks for your devices. The advantage of using such software is a simplified interface and a more understandable device compared to the solution from Microsoft Windows. Such programs can sometimes offer more advanced functionality than standard tool operating system, making them suitable for solving a greater number of tasks.

Command line

Another option for turning your laptop into a Wi-Fi router is to launch special combination via the command line. This method has both its pros and cons. A clear advantage is simplicity for those who are used to working with text commands. You don't need to look for shortcuts, go to the menu, download some programs - just enter a few lines, and the access point is ready. On the other hand, the disadvantage of this method is clear to those who have never encountered such a tool as the command line in their lives. It is definitely better for such users to skip this point.

So, first of all, go to the command line. This can be done by pressing the Win keys (the one with the Windows checkbox at the bottom of the keyboard) and R at the same time. A window will appear in which you need to enter ncpa.cpl. Click "Ok".

A list of Wi-Fi connections will open in front of you. Right-click on one of them and select “Properties”. Look for the “Access” tab, click on it, and then check the box “Allow other network users to use this computer’s Internet connection.”

Next, launch the command line again, but this time as Administrator. To do this, in the “Start” panel, find the “Command Prompt” item, then right-click and click “Command Prompt (Administrator”).

Now you need to check if your Wi-Fi signal is supported. To do this, enter the command “netsh wlan show drivers”. If a lot of information on drivers appears, then everything is fine. If not, alas, nothing will come of it.

Now enter the connection commands. The first is “netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=Name key=Pass” (without quotes, where Name is the name of the network and Pass is the password for it). Information should appear on the screen that all services have been successfully activated, then write “netsh wlan start hostednetwork”. That's it, that's all for setting up an Internet WiFi connection using the command line. To stop the network, repeat the command, replacing "start" with "stop".

We distribute Internet on Mac

Since we touched on the topic of distributing Wi-Fi from a laptop on Windows, it would be nice to raise the same problem with devices on Mac OS. True, everything is much simpler here.

The first thing you need to do is share your Wi-Fi connection. This is done in the settings of the “Sharing” service (this is all located in “ System settings"), namely in the paragraph “For computers using...”. It is in this menu that you need to check the box next to Wi-Fi.

After this, you should configure “ Shared Internet" To do this, you first need to select Ethernet, Thunderbolt or VPN from the drop-down menu - depending on what kind of Internet you have. Next, click “Wi-Fi Settings” and write down the network name and password. You can leave the channel and security type alone.

That's it, when the settings are finished, all that remains is to activate the distribution. You can do this by pressing the “Enable” key.

How to connect?

When did you create own connection from a computer, this network can be seen in the general list wireless connections. Accordingly, you can access the Internet through it from any device. To do this, it is enough, as noted earlier, to know the security key (password) for entering the network and, of course, its name. If everything is done correctly, in theory, you should have the Internet on your tablet, smartphone, or the device from which you surf online.

Typical problems

Of course, even in such a simple operation as creating a wireless connection, a number of problems can arise. The two most common are the lack of connection, provided that the Wi-Fi network is created correctly, and the inability to connect to the network, since it is missing.

Most common solutions

This can be solved in several main ways. The first thing you need to do is check whether your device meets the requirements. This means whether you have a Wi-Fi adapter on your laptop, whether the most fresh drivers, is it enough new version adapter for working with a Wi-Fi network and similar issues. You can find them out by accessing the command line (see instructions above). It is also recommended to go to the official website of your laptop manufacturer and download the latest software.

At the second stage, you need to make sure that the settings you entered when creating your Wi-Fi network are correct. In particular, we are talking about the type of Internet connection, the connection method (VPN or Ethernet connection - each of them requires special connection parameters).

Third, check the restrictions! Since a laptop is not a WiFi router, its default settings may have some restrictions to ensure the safety of the device. This is, for example, the Windows firewall, antivirus program or some other deterrent software that recognizes your network as a threat. Before distributing the Internet via WiFi from a laptop, check whether it is the reason why you are unable to distribute a signal.
