Recovering information from storage media

In some cases, there may be a situation where the hard drive is no longer detected or does not start, and the information on it was not saved in advance. If you act incorrectly in such a situation, it can be lost forever.

First, check whether this drive is “readable” by the BIOS. If the disk is detected there, then it is possible to “save” the data. But if the disk is not displayed, then it will most likely not be possible to recover the data.

There is a radical method for temporarily restoring the device. To do this, remove the disk from the computer and seal it tightly in a plastic bag.

Place the bundle in the freezer for one night. At the same time, make sure that snow and ice do not get on the package. In the morning, take out the disk, unpack it and connect it to your PC. In some cases it may start.

On my own computer, I encountered the fact that the hard drive began to click and turn off, and after a while, spin up again with a click. A little later it began to disappear in the BIOS. Accordingly, initially I assumed that the problem was with the heads or spindle, then with the firmware or printed circuit board (or connections), but in fact it turned out that everything was fine with the hard drive and the power supply was to blame, which I did not even expect. And lastly: if after clicks, creaks and other things, the data has become inaccessible, it is better not to try to restore the hard drive yourself - most data recovery programs are not designed for such situations, and, moreover, they can cause harm.

• Samsung hard drives with problematic heads make multiple clicks or one click, after which they slow down.

• When the spindle is stuck on the hard drive of a Toshiba laptop, it makes sounds as if it is trying to spin up and gain speed, but acceleration is interrupted.
