Good day! After I finally broke my old Samsung GS4Mini and started looking for a replacement, I discovered that most modern phones have 2.5D screens with rounded edges. I always try to protect my gadgets, and I planned to do the same with the chosen one. Xiaomi Redmi 4X (it just has a 2.5D screen), so after scouring the Internet, I ordered glass to protect the screen. What came out of this is what I want to tell you further.

Initially, I identified several possible types of screen protection for my R4X:

Protective film. I never liked films. Gluing them without dust getting inside is not an easy task for me. Afterwards, during the operation of the phone, they quickly became unusable from scratches and peeling corners.

And everything seems to be fine, you can buy a glass version complete with this composition and a brush for applying it in addition, you can buy the composition separately. But, unfortunately, you will have to periodically replenish the liquid in the voids, because... they're not going anywhere.

There is another type of protective glass, but it is not completely transparent, but has a frame around the edges. This is exactly what I chose. I will explain my choice below.

I ordered the glass at random, searching on Aliexpress for exactly the type that was chosen.
The seller had three frame color options, corresponding to the main screen color options - white, black and gold. Because I already ordered a phone with a black body and a black screen, I also ordered black glass.


It's no secret that Chinese sellers love to speculate on phone colors. As a rule, black colors are always 10-20% more expensive than white or gold. Therefore, having bought more cheap phone in white or gold, if desired, you can “repaint” it black by gluing the appropriate glass and putting it in a black case.

After ordering a pair of glasses, the seller sent them the next day.


Departure with track, the entire route was tracked. It arrived to me in the Volga region of Russia in three weeks.


The glasses came packed in a foam box. The post office would have to try very hard to damage it. Therefore, the contents of the parcel arrived safe and sound.


And the contents were as follows: the glass itself, 2 sets of wet and dry wipes per glass, and stickers for collecting dust.


By the way, I never use complete napkins, because... I never manage to clean the screen with them. In case of severe contamination, I use alcohol, and then polish it with a microfiber cloth from a set of 3D glasses for TV.


The glass is made without any defects. Everything is cut smoothly, the frame is clearly painted, the holes for the speaker, sensor and front camera in their places.


The edges of the glass are rounded. I didn’t have a micrometer at hand, so I had to measure the thickness of the glass with a caliper and it turned out to be about 0.5 mm.

The sticker procedure is the same as in the case of transparent glass, the only difference being that this glass has an adhesive layer applied only to the painted areas of the frame. There is no glue on the transparent surface of the glass. Hence the first possible drawback of such glasses - I came across opinions online that on some similar glasses, when glued, an air layer remains in the transparent part of the screen and when pressed, a slight click is felt, because. when pressed with a finger, it bends the protective glass, which in turn gently knocks on the screen. Some people like it, some don't. But I can’t say anything for myself, I don’t have such a click.

Another point that can be regarded as a drawback is the presence of a grid of dots on the glass, which can be seen if you look closely at the black screen turned off and shine a lamp on it in reflected light. To see these points you need to look closely, normal use they are not noticeable, and when the screen is on it is almost impossible to see them.



The glass came apart very well. Holds securely. Two weeks active use- the flight is normal. Let's see how long it will last. No air gaps between the screen and glass are visually visible. I tried to crawl up with the corner of a sheet of paper - the corner fits in there by a fraction of a millimeter. It turns out that there is still a layer, but it’s the frame that hides it. However, it is unlikely to pick up the glass by accident, for example, with a fingernail or something else. You can catch it, but you have to try to do it on purpose.

In this review I cannot ignore one more drawback, which I also came across in reviews of these types of glass online - under certain lighting (fluorescent lamps, CRT monitors etc.) multi-colored stains are visible at the points of contact between the screen and glass, which are called gasoline or oil stains. I couldn’t see anything like this in my place in any lighting, including in the light fluorescent lamps. Maybe I just didn’t find the “right” light source. But, on the other hand, why should I look for him if everyday use, in the conditions in which I am, no stains are visible. I admit that such stains can appear if you stick glass onto a screen that has not dried, for example, immediately after cleaning it with a damp cloth without removing all the liquid.

And finally, the most interesting and, in my opinion, controversial. The seller's page states that the glass has an oleophobic coating. After googling how to check, I found that you need to drop a drop on the glass and let the drop roll down it. If there is an oleophobic coating, then the drop will roll off without spreading or leaving a mark. Which is what was done. Indeed, the drop rolled down the clean glass, as if on a greasy surface, without any intention of spreading and leaving behind any droplets or traces.

To summarize, I can say that, despite the listed shortcomings, I am satisfied with the glass. It fulfills its function. It goes well with a case with protective sides, and with another case or without it it looks good and neat. The only drawback for me is that the screen does get very dirty over time.
