Xiaomi mi4 black review. Xiaomi Mi4i - a brief review of the smartphone and comparison with the Xiaomi Mi4 model

Xiaomi company does not hesitate to release the same models under different sauces. And the market reacts to this normally, because the manufacturer does not raise prices for new products, and the innovations seem timely and appropriate (although we have yet to understand the need to release Redmi Note 3 Pro almost immediately after Redmi Note 3 (unboxing). It would seem that the Mi4i model (review) was released quite recently, which is a rethinking of the Mi4, and now the Mi4c, which is in no way inferior to the Mi4i, is already on sale. Let's understand the innovations.

We thank the online store GearBest.com for the device. He currently sells the Mi4c with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM, while the 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM variant will cost you. Perhaps when you read this, prices have already changed - check on the website.

Video review and unboxing

A video review will be added in the next few days.

Design and equipment

The phone is available in several colors and to highlight the bright nature of the device, the box has an orange design. Inside, everything is standard: a smartphone, documentation, charging with a Chinese plug, a USB Type-C cable, a needle for opening the SIM tray. The store additionally comes with general instructions in English and an adapter for our sockets (they may no longer come with them).

Mi4c and Redmi Note 3

For those who have seen the Mi4i review, the Mi4c will surely give you a feeling of déjà vu. Indeed, the new model is almost no different from the previous one - the shape and materials are similar, the dimensions are the same. Among the external differences, one can note only the IR transmitter that appeared on the top end, and the USB Type-C connector on the bottom end, which replaced the rapidly aging microUSB socket. The main differences between Mi4c and Mi4i lie inside - more powerful filling and an improved camera - more on them below.

The monoblock has a non-removable cover, which minimizes the chances of squeaks and backlashes. The volume and power buttons are at the right height and are easy to interact with. The three touch keys under the display are backlit and have fairly large touch zones - it’s extremely difficult to miss them. The tray with two micro SIM cards is located on the left side (it’s a pity that the tray does not allow for the use of a card microSD memory instead of a second SIM card - now this is a very popular solution among Chinese manufacturers). On the back we see a 13-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, a microphone, a logo and a multimedia speaker grille. The speaker produces loud and high quality sound, although it lacks low-frequency processing (I don’t have the Mi4i at hand, but if my memory serves me correctly, the Mi4c is louder).

For Mi4c, as for Mi4, as well as Mi4i, the company chose a high-quality 5” Full HD screen with IPS matrix. No air gap, good contrast, sufficient brightness reserve, high viewing angles, comfortable pixel density per inch (441 ppi) - this is all about the Mi4c panel. You can only grumble about the cold temperature of the display of a particular test sample. You won't have to grumble for long, as the settings reveal a "colors and contrast" section, where you can choose one of three white balance modes - warm, standard and cool.

Software

There are many MIUI firmwares for Xiaomi smartphones. Along with the official ones, which have only Chinese and English languages (by the way, official firmware is divided into stable, which is rarely updated, and developer firmware, which is updated frequently), there are unofficial ones, but localized and with a number of differences in the software set. There are also custom builds. In general, among supporters different firmware there are various pros and cons, but in order to minimize the likelihood of glitches and lags as a result of third-party interference from enthusiastic developers, I flashed my Mi4c to the official stable firmware with English by manually installing Google services. At the time of writing the review, the software version is MIUI V7.1.4.0.LXKCNCK.

The phone came from the store with all sorts of Chinese rubbish, which is usually installed by sellers along with Google services (don’t blame the sellers, blame the Chinese utilities for flashing). Of course, using a smartphone in this form is not very fun, and there may be viruses - I advise you to update it yourself to the selected firmware after receiving the Mi4c from any store.

The seventh version of MIUI, like previous releases, is a very interesting platform. In terms of its structure, it is far from bare Android and at the same time borrows many things from iOS, due to which, in fact, it is popular. Those who follow our reviews Xiaomi devices, know that we, in general, have not been very complimentary about MIUI. Having the opportunity to use flagships from almost all manufacturers, having the opportunity to compare and evaluate software from the outside, we could not help but notice sudden lags, regular brakes, application crashes and MIUI errors. However, in its current form, you can only find fault with Mi4c on MIUI v7 if you really want to. In terms of stability and development, it is at the level of firmware from other vendors, with its pros and cons.

pre-installed software on official Chinese firmware

Because official firmware is intended for Chinese users, it is full of applications and services for them. In international firmware, something is simply missing (online cinema), something is offered in a stripped-down form (from music player online playback was removed), and something was redone (the weather is able to see cities outside the Middle Kingdom). I note that the Edge controls function, which allows you to perform the “back” action and take a photo by double tapping on the side edge, was done just for show. It doesn’t always work, and what’s the point of it anyway?

I will highlight the Mi Remote application, which uses an IR transmitter. Using a sensor missing from Mi4i, you can remotely control your home appliances. So in no time I was able to pair the phone with Sony TV and made fun of his wife a little, switching channels without a remote control and feigning sincere surprise at the enraged TV. Do you remember how companies began to massively integrate IR transmitters into flagships and then stopped together? In my opinion, a sensor is needed in a smartphone insofar as it is (manufacturers probably studied usage statistics and came to the same conclusion), but the fact that it is there is a small, but still a plus in the Mi4c’s piggy bank.

The Mi4c does not have a dedicated amplifier and DAC (like the Mi4i, no matter what anyone says), so the codec integrated into the Snapdragon 808 SoC is responsible for the sound. I listened to music with Denon D600 and Xiaomi Mi Headphones. Overall, I was satisfied - Mi4c with Denon D600 plays at the level of OnePlus 2, slightly inferior to Meizu MX5 and LG G4. It is comfortable to listen at a volume of 70-80%, that is, there is even a reserve. The bass is a little lacking and I don't like the emphasis on the upper mids, but some adjustments can be made to the seven-band equalizer. Xiaomi headphones Mi devices themselves are quite average in sound, and the preset for them in Mi Sound Enhancer does not make them much better. Headphones for inexperienced listeners who value design more.

Camera

In terms of camera characteristics, the Mi4i and Mi4c differ only in the support for phase focusing by the main 13-megapixel Mi4c module. No changes in resolution, 5-lens optics, f/2.0 aperture, two-color dual flash. Phase focusing allows you to focus on an object in just 0.1 seconds – that’s what Xiaomi says. And with sufficient light, the camera really points instantly, but in a room and in the dark it takes significantly more time to focus, although less than with Mi4i or Mi4. In the dark, laser autofocus helps to target well, but Xiaomi has not yet used it in its smartphones. Only the flagship Mi Note line has optical stabilization, and for the Mi4c it would come in handy, but alas, there is no OIS, and the electronic stabilizer is not able to fully compensate for hand shaking and provide a confident shot with one hand (in general, there is a feeling that when taking photos it just doesn't work). In this regard, I advise you to click 2-3 times to be sure to get a clear frame (although it is still almost impossible to get a blurry picture at night).

The camera app has several modes, the most interesting of which is manual. The vertical orientation of the interface looks crooked, the controls and buttons are not very convenient, but the focus, white balance, ISO and shutter speed settings are there - this is the main thing. I like to shoot macro, and with manual focus adjustment it's quite easy. Rate the shot with a drop - take this on the vaunted Sony Xperia Z5 costs 3 times more, you won’t be able to get it, since the phone has best camera in flagship smartphone"(this is how Sony Mobile advertises the Z5, which personally makes me wildly confused) there is no full-fledged manual mode with adjustable focal length. You can change the exposure by tapping on the screen - click on the focus area and make a circular motion clockwise or counterclockwise to make your photo brighter or darker.

auto and handheld night mode

Frames from Mi4c come out good in good lighting and satisfactory in quality in low lighting. It's all due to grease. For example, out of 9 attempts to photograph a Christmas tree decoration at home, not one was successful, and houses in the distance in the night composition were out of focus in all 5 pictures. In general, if you shoot mainly in close to ideal conditions, then there is nothing to worry about, but if you like to take photographs indoors and at dusk, and even without a tripod (a joke for MT people from VK), then you should consider another smartphone.

without effects and with retouching effect

For yourselves, there is a 5-megapixel module with f/1.8 aperture. It takes high-quality photos, just don’t forget to turn off the retouching mode – it loses details.

The maximum video resolution is limited to Full HD. Tracking autofocus is turned off by default - which is for the best. If the option is activated, the focus will constantly yaw. Audio is recorded in stereo, but the microphones are configured to capture ambient sounds rather than the operator's voice, which goes primarily to the right channel (we saw a similar problem with the Xperia Z3 and Z3+ until it was fixed in the Z5). Electronic stabilization works very sluggishly.

Recently, the policies of some Chinese companies looks strange. So relatively recently Xiaomi presented a very interesting smartphone Mi4i. From original device Mi4, which has been on sale for quite some time, the new product is distinguished by the letter “i” in the name and some slightly simplified specifications. Let's figure out what's what.

Firstly, it is worth saying that a sufficient period of time has passed between the release of the two smartphones in question. Xiaomi Mi4 was introduced in July 2014, while the smartphone with the “i” index was released in April of this year.

The second issue that is worth discussing right away is prices.

You can buy it in the official store Xiaomi Mi4 price at 1,990 Chinese yuan, which translated into native currency is exactly 18,250 rubles for the 16 GB modification. However, domestic, and any other users (with the exception of Chinese) need not worry. It is impossible to buy something directly from the manufacturer due to the fact that international buyers do not have Chinese bank cards and a local address.

It's interesting that in relation to newest model with index "i" on this moment The official store didn't even list prices. Thus, official channel completely inaccessible.

There is only one option left, and it is far from the worst - to purchase gadgets from sellers of various Chinese sellers. One such good example is the Gearbest.com store. Link Xiaomi Mi4i Can buy for $237.52.

However, at the moment our partner is running a promotion, thanks to which you can buy a smartphone significantly cheaper:

  • When the device is delivered from a European warehouse and activated during checkout with an EUMI4I coupon, the price will be reduced to $194.59
  • and when ordering from a Hong Kong warehouse, you need to specify another coupon - XMM4IGB, but the cost will be just as low - $194.59.

In general, choose the place of delivery and seize the moment while the discount is valid.

We've sorted out the key parameters. Let's get to the main point comparison.

Now it will become clear why at the beginning of the article we talked about simplified characteristics in the new product. The predecessor (Xiaomi Mi4) basically has a metal edging and beautiful metal bevels on the sides, much like the iPhone 5S. There is glass on the front, just like in Mi4i. Both devices have a plastic back cover. The only difference is that the older device has a glossy cover, while the new product has a slightly velvety, matte surface.

It's time to look at specifications devices by comparing them with each other. I warn you in advance that I marked improvements in hardware in green, and deterioration in red. It is clear that the latter are most numerous.

As for performance, it is approximately the same. On both devices you can easily play modern games even at high graphics settings. It's hard to notice much of a difference.

In real-life use, of course, it is useful to have 3 GB in a regular version rather than 2 GB in an updated one. However, this indicator will be critical for those who do not like to unload unnecessary applications from memory and keep 10 open tabs in the browser at the same time.

Xiaomi Mi4 internals

Xiaomi Mi4i internals

None of the models we are discussing are equipped with an NFC interface. Still, we are not dealing with flagships, but according to tradition, only they are armed with similar gadgets. By the way, about them. Built-in IR port for control household appliances Only the older version is equipped. The new product can’t do anything like that.

There is no point in discussing smaller changes. Everything can be seen in the plate above.

Let's talk a little about the camera. The differences between the rear photosensors are small. The young smartphone still has the same 13 megapixels, but the lens has undergone changes. There are now 5 lenses instead of 6, and the aperture has increased to f/2.0. In other words, a little less light will enter the matrix, but in theory these differences are almost invisible.

There are differences in video recording. In Mi4, these can be videos with Ultra HD resolution, while Mi4i users will be content with only Full HD video.

Let's move on to the most pressing issue. It is clear that many users will and do order smartphones from Chinese stores, in the case of Xiaomi products There is no other way (with the exception of tablets). In this case, it will be useful to know the supported frequencies, so that when installing your own SIM card you will not be left with nothing.

For Xiaomi Mi4i, which can be purchased from the link above, it is valid support following network frequencies LTE: FDD-LTE 1800 / 2600 MHz. To check the supported frequencies of a particular smartphone and your operator, you can use the service.

Let's summarize. Even based on the materials used, we can conclude that the devices are positioned differently. They are largely similar in functionality and performance, but the older version is still more expensive than the younger one. And the color of the latter hints that the manufacturer has relied on young people, hence the more affordable price for the device. Perhaps there really is no point in overpaying for a one-year-old model and choosing the Xiaomi Mi4i.

Xiaomi has long entered the global market of gadgets and smartphones, and at this stage it can already confidently compete with famous brands. IN this review I propose to learn in more detail about the flagship model XIAOMI Mi4C, which is confidently in the top 15 in the antuta, has some innovative functions and remember the saying about “everything new is well forgotten old.”

In addition, I would like to thank the Gearbest store, which, although they tried to “move out,” in the end acted honestly and fairly.

First, I’ll write about why thanks to Gearbest. At the end of October, the brave Chinese mixed up the price and entered $127 instead of $227. Well, it would be a sin not to try to grab this device for this amount.

This was a pre-order, there were a couple of weeks left before the batch was due to be shipped, and when at the end of the pre-sale I received an email canceling the order. Then the painful correspondence began, the search for those responsible, communication with managers and other hassle - well, it’s not my fault that the Chinese were so stupid, but I managed to buy. And in the end, after almost a month of fighting with technical support and the manager, I won.

✔ PACKAGING AND EQUIPMENT OF XIAOMI Mi4C

Regular delivery, which took almost 50 days thanks to jd sales.

Thanks for the adapter, it’s always on point regarding Xiaomi products. The box is poisonous orange with a small logo. (Oukiteel perfectly licked the color for himself).

Depending on the 2/3 GB version, a sticker with the characteristics of the smartphone is attached.

General kit.

The instructions, like all Xiaomi products, are strictly in Chinese.

A paper clip for the tray, the thickness of a regular paper clip is perfect.

The cable is of good quality, except for one thing, but the connector is not yet very familiar USB Type-C, so I recommend buying adapters or spare cables for charging your smartphone at work or with friends.

Charging, as expected with a Chinese plug, the adapter will come in handy here. Charger parameters 5V - 2A, 9V - 1.2A, 12V -1A. Support for Quick charge technology version 2.0.

It can handle a 2A load at 5V without sagging, and in general the smartphone charges with “native” charging much faster than even the “native” 2 Amp One+.

The smartphone itself is covered with a transport film on the front and even on the back cover there is a film with serial numbers, holograms and a warning in Chinese.
We decided not to bother too much with design and materials, focusing more on hardware and software. The plastic cover, which fits onto a smartphone like a bumper, is available in 7 different colors from simple to bright.

There are frames, but they were not masked like on 2.5D displays. There is a small company logo on the front. Before this, I didn’t pay attention to this, but the main brands, such as Samsung, Sony and other LGs, place the logo on both the front and back of the smartphone, while Chinese manufacturers mostly only on the back, as if afraid to show that the smartphone is not a famous brand.

There is no protective film included in the kit or from the factory, but I recommend buying glass instead - the difference is night and day, not in favor of the film.
At the top of the smartphone there are light and proximity sensors, an earpiece, front-camera and LED indicator.

The indicator can be configured for any event, but, unfortunately, you cannot set your own color, you can only choose from existing ones.

At the bottom of the smartphone, the manufacturer left space for backlit touch buttons; I don’t really like on-screen buttons even on 5-inch displays.

At the bottom there is a thick USB Type-C connector and a speaking microphone.

At the top there is a 3.5 jack connector for headphones and one of the “goodies” that I mentioned at the beginning of the review, namely an IR transmitter for controlling household appliances. Everything new is good, forgotten old;)

Nice plastic and a “metal” logo at the bottom.

They decided to place the speaker at the bottom, rather than at the bottom end. But even here there are some small tricks, namely a small border, thanks to which the smartphone’s speaker does not close when you put it on the table. If you put it on a soft surface, the sound is muffled! Volume and sound quality high level, I didn’t notice any wheezing, the bell can be heard well.

Near the main 13 megapixel Sony IMX25 camera there is a very bright two-color LED lights and a microphone for noise reduction.

On the right side of the smartphone there are plastic volume and power keys. They protrude slightly above the body, but false positives no, and they do not cause discomfort.

The body is monolithic, there is no play if you knock a little in the area rear camera, then there is a slight, barely audible rattling sound.
“The lenses in the camera are in an electromagnetic field, i.e. coils are located on two blocks of lenses, when focusing, an electric potential is applied to the coils and thereby the lenses are driven and focused, the moment of focusing by contrast focus is monitored by the controller, when the camera is turned off, there is no potential and they hang freely on the suspension, so when shaking we hear This is a “rattling” sound; as soon as you turn on the camera, you won’t hear this “rattling” sound. This method has recently been used not only in smartphone cameras, but also on “large” cameras, common among Sony, Sigma... The system is reliable and compact.” w3bsit3-dns.com

On the left side there is a tray for two Micro SIMs.

Tray in a plastic case, with a metal backing.

Unfortunately, this device is not designed to work with Micro SIM + micro SD.

The dimensions of the smartphone are width: 70 mm, thickness 7.9 mm and length 138 mm.

Weight is 130 grams.

✔XIAOMI Mi4C SCREEN

Xiaomi does not skimp on the quality of its displays, and this device is no exception. The screen is not a shovel or a small thing - 5 inches are made according to IPS technology without an air gap. Famous brands are used as suppliers - Sharp, LG or AUO. You can find out exactly what type your device has using the engineering menu and the Dmesg command, where the manufacturer will be indicated in the Panel Name.

The screen is very rich and bright, and with a FullHD resolution of 1920 by 1080 and 441 PPI, pixelation is practically invisible. The viewing angle is 178°.

Supports 10 simultaneous touches.

An oleophobic coating is applied to the screen; fingers glide quite well, although they leave marks, but they can be easily removed simply by wiping them once on a cloth. It fits perfectly in the hand; when working with one hand, there is no fear that the smartphone will fall out, as I have with 5.5 inches.

It cannot be called thin, but it fits comfortably in the hand thanks to the beveled corners on the lid.

It takes a little getting used to blindly hitting the volume rocker without hitting the off button, but you get used to it.

✔ SOFTWARE OUT OF THE BOX IN XIAOMI Mi4C

You can use the installed MIUI out of the box, but I HIGHLY recommend flashing the phone right away, especially since this is done in a couple of clicks.
I won’t dwell entirely on MIUI7, but in general, it seemed to me that it was much faster than the 6th version.

From the lock screen you can turn on the camera or flashlight without entering a password, applications can be grouped into folders.

You don’t have to reach for the top of the smart phone to open the curtain; just swipe down on the screen. Required applications You can pin it in the application manager. Unfortunately, the translation was not completed completely, which prompted me to reflash it.

Initially, a strange version 87.0.4 was installed out of the box on Android based 5.1.1.

There are quite a lot of settings and some of the applications, such as camera settings, are included in general settings.

There is no Russian search for T9 in the dialer yet, there is also insufficient translation, which can be corrected by flashing it. One of the nice features is the ability to customize automatic recording conversations “out of the box” and install a short video instead regular photo subscriber

A little more about the chips; there are sensors on the edges of the smartphone. It is possible to activate them from the settings menu and then double tapping on the left side of the smartphone is equivalent to pressing the “back” button, and in camera mode it takes a photo, the first touch focuses, the second touch takes a photo. A convenient feature when working with one hand; you don’t have to reach for the touch buttons when working in the browser.

There is a child mode setting, where you set which applications your child can access. Setting up the blocking as in regular Android. It is possible to enable reading mode, adjust the color temperature and enable double-tap wake-up. By the way, it was noticed that when this option is enabled, battery life is reduced.

For those who are 5 inches, there is still the ability to switch the display to 4 or 3.5 inches mode. After activation, just slide your finger across the touch button from the center to the side to activate it and in the opposite direction to disable this mode.

Managing pop-up notifications and tiles in the curtain. The connection speed is shown “out of the box” when you activate the desired item in the menu.

It is possible to customize the headset keys and touch buttons to suit your needs.

12.14 GB of internal memory and approximately 800 MB are available to the user random access memory.

✔ COMMUNICATION IN XIAOMI Mi4C

As expected modern smartphone Mi4 has almost the entire set of models wireless communication. But just as NFC was not present in previous models, it never appeared, I don’t know why Xiaomi abandoned this technology, but it’s a fact.
WiFi module dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz - Wi-Fi ac/a/b/g/n
Measurements of 2.4 GHz speed in a room with a router and through 2 concrete walls.

Penetration is at a high level, the position of the arrow in the green zone has practically not changed.

Speedtest at 5 GHz, as we can see, the speed drop through 2 walls is already stronger.

The smartphone has bluetooth module version 4.1.

As for GPS, above all praise, both GPS and GLONASS and Chinese Beidou, very fast cold start. Well, there’s nothing to say about accuracy here, everything is excellent.

Instead of NFC, the manufacturer remembered the old ones Nokia smartphone and software for switching TV channels. But in this smartphone everything is much simpler, select the device type, select popular model in the list of popular Chinese brands or go to the detailed list, where there is simply a huge list of equipment manufacturers.

After choosing a manufacturer, we test the buttons, and if everything is ok, we give a name to the new remote control and indicate the placement of the equipment. Then everything is the same as in the usual remote control, the range is no worse, I tried it from 5 meters, it works perfectly.

As for the sounds from the headphones, here I also give 5 points, my native Pistons sound much better than in my On+, I liked the sound even without third-party enhancers.

✔ XIAOMI Mi4C FIRMWARE

The bottom line is that the firmware was updated, but updates arrived, but the translation was crooked, Chinese extra software and mediocre values in Antutu are three factors for flashing.

All you need to do for flashing:
1- download from mi website
2 - Install it and connect your smartphone. By the way, the application itself is very convenient for everyday use.

3- download the TWR archive and unpack it into a folder -
4- download the firmware - choose it yourself, but I am V7.1.4.0.LXKCNCK, upload it to your smartphone
5- set the smartphone to fastboot mode- turn off the smart phone and turn on the volume "-" key while holding down the volume key. Or run 1.bat with the smart connected, if the option fails
6- connect your smartphone to your computer and run 2.bat
7- after installing custom recovery, select the firmware file from the recovery menu and install with cleaning
8 - rejoice

After flashing, it’s still the same MIUI 7, but without unnecessary software, with almost complete localization and works faster.

✔ TESTS XIAOMI Mi4C

This is the Antutu data you get after installation new firmware- 64740 parrot.

Information about the smartphone using CPU-Z.

Info from AIDA64.

And some more ironclad information.

There are all possible sensors, except for temperature, which is strange, since the system has these sensors.

I have no complaints about the performance of the sensors.

GeekBench gave 1021 in one core and 2589 in all.

IceStorm produced 359 parrots, and Quadrant 14175.

Vellamo either overtakes the Meizu MX4 and sits on the tail of OnePlus, or lags behind in the browser by several points.

Comparison and benchmark from GFX.

In Antutu 3D there are 6929 parrots, and in Nenamark 60.1 fps.

Although Cyatdel warmed up the processor, the values at super quality are very high - 49.3 fps.

✔ BATTERY IN XIAOMI Mi4C

The smartphone has a built-in battery with a capacity of 3080 mAh
This device cannot be called super-survivable; in Antuta it scores 6066, while in 4 hours the smartphone drops to 20% at maximum brightness.

There are many settings that can reduce energy consumption, such as turning off at night wireless modules and show the most voracious processes.

In general, there is enough work for a full day, even taking into account games. But if you play a game that requires smartphone resources, then prepare to charge it after about two and a half hours.

In browser mode, face book, audio player, calls - with the screen operating time of about 5 hours, there will still be 10% charge left.

✔ XIAOMI Mi4C GAMES

There were no problems with games. But the heating is present, you don’t burn your fingers, but it’s still there (around 45-50 degrees).

The second point is that at high temperatures, throttling appears and performance drops, this is confirmed by Antutu tests, which were carried out in cold conditions and after 20-30 minutes of play.

There are no problems with this, games can hang in the memory if the smart device is not overloaded with unnecessary resource-intensive applications.

But although the tanks are running quite confidently, on the average graphics, on the maximum there are freezes, or this is a flaw in the game or throttling is to blame.

✔ CAMERA OF XIAOMI Mi4C SMARTPHONE

The main camera with a Sony IMX258 module has a resolution of 13 megapixels. Information about photos and videos.

The camera is quite fast, fast startup and focusing. Judge the quality of the pictures for yourself, but they turn out to be of pretty good quality.

Almost without focusing, it does not blur the photo.

In a dark elevator, the flash works very well.

Just a bright banner.

Eat.

In low light conditions, it is better to use the HDR mode.

Manual focus.

Poor lighting.

It shoots video in FullHD format, and can also shoot slow-motion video at 120fps in 720P mode.

✔ TOTAL FOR XIAOMI Mi4C

I tried to tell as much as possible about this smartphone, indicating both strengths and weaknesses, I will summarize below.
I'll list the advantages:
- excellent performance
- high-quality FullHD display with normal oleophobic coating
- the camera takes really good pictures
- presence of IR and a large number of sensors
- additional features + notification LED
- MIUI in in this case also a plus
- in this case, the monolithic body is also an advantage
- fast charging
- easy flashing
- I’ll take the battery as a plus, only because it’s higher than 3000mAh

The cons:
- no possibility of memory expansion via microSD
- low throttling activation threshold
- damp pre-installed firmware
- lack of NFC
- high power consumption when gaming

Gorgeous screen, battery, fast charging, shape and size (with these characteristics one of the most compact smartphones), camera (if you have direct hands and knowledge in photography).

    2 years ago 0

Great uptime. With a 3000 mAh battery, it costs once every two days to charge. -Convenient MIUI OS, which is on top of Android. - Quite nice characteristics. During the period of use (2 months) it proved to be a more than productive device. Nothing slows down. -Excellent screen. -There is practically no extraneous uninstallable software. -Good assembly. -Frequent MIUI updates.

Design, screen, capacious battery, hardware balance.

For six months of use, it never froze, rebooted or shut down. Very stable work. Often minor glitches were due to unsuccessful firmware and crooked applications, such as VKontakte, but after MIUI 7 everything began to work perfectly and very smoothly, especially in performance mode, which, in principle, does not consume much battery. -The firmware is beyond praise, very beautiful and smooth, intuitive, a lot of all sorts of pleasant little things. -Very high-quality assembly, and very thin frames on the screen. Metal body. -Well, the rest is ironclad. -And most importantly PRICE.

Incredibly high-quality assembly without a single play or squeak. It fits nicely in the hand with a pleasant heaviness. The smallest smartphone in size (screen-to-body ratio) with a 5-inch screen on the market! Fast and productive. Bright clear and beautiful screen. Battery! (especially after LG Nexus 5!) Great camera Lots of phone performance settings, especially good for saving battery or for "heavy" applications. Price! You can buy new replacement back panels if anyone needs them. LTE! Just beautiful phone

The battery is more than 3000 mAh. Compared to the same Nexus5 - heaven and earth - Steel (not aluminum) frame - like in the Xperia Z5 Premium! You can chop nuts - Replaceable back cover, that is, the phone can be instantly returned to its original condition. There are wonderful bamboo lids. -Perfect screen -Always the latest and stable MIUI (which is not the case on Nexuses) -Top front camera, strong main camera -Powerful platform -Thin frames (especially compared to iPhones and other NTS) -Any firmware (MIUI, stock, yes at least Windows10) -3 GB of RAM -IR port! Works great - Price!

    EVERYTHING!!!

The matrix is very bright and juicy, the battery is simply a beast, if you use it moderately, then by the evening there can be 50% left, and sometimes more. Price, bought on aliexpress for 13500. Russification is good and complete. Strongly made and good materials, for almost a year I have already fallen many times and flatly and on the corner the frame is dented, the glass is intact, but this is so about glass, a good fool, don’t let it break everything. I was pleased with the built-in antivirus and optimizer. The most pleasing thing is that there is no bullshit, the survivability of the battery is probably related to this. There are indeed different programs from the MIO shell, but they are easily turned off and do not bother you with their presence.

Slippery back cover. He often tries to fall out of his hands.
-Mediocre main camera. Good pictures come out very quickly. After the Lumia 920(!) I was disappointed.
-16 GB ROM. In fact, around 12-13 is free; no memory card slot.
    -No camera button.
-No outstanding sound from the main speaker.
    -Stupid auto brightness.

    2 years ago 0

Inability to expand memory with a card.

Lack of a 2nd SIM card and microSD slot. Non-removable battery, although replacing is still not difficult if your hands are not crooked.

There is no official retailer in Russia
    - The version with LTE supports 4G networks only MTS

A slightly strange decision is to place the lock button and volume rocker on one side. I often confuse where to press, especially when I’m talking and the phone is next to my ear, but I’m probably just not used to it yet.
The back panel is a little slippery, I'm afraid to drop the phone. The problem is solved by purchasing a cover, I have already ordered it.
Personally, I don’t like the MIUI interface, I installed Nova Launcher - I’m happy with everything.

    2 years ago 0

Absence removable card memory, impossibility of ordering in black.

    2 years ago 0

Larger. After such dimensions, the Mi2 seems like something out of space
    -No NFC
    -No wireless charging
-Doesn’t shoot in RAW with manual settings, that is, either RAW in a primitive camera, or shutter speed/ISO/balance in a standard one (I hope for now)
-Weak screen glass - not a gorilla. After six months there are already scratches, although they are not directly visible
    -No camera stabilizer

    2 years ago 0

The only thing is probably the slippery glossy surface. Sometimes it wants to escape from your hands

    2 years ago 0

The back cover is easily rubbed, but you can change it to colored ones or wood-look ones on the same Ali and they cost pennies.

    2 years ago 0

If the camera sees “green” it simply turns “green” shamelessly. Lack of ability to install a memory card. The bumper is difficult to find, everything is only in online stores with delivery.

Price: on TinyDeal for version 2/16 - $299 (18 thousand rubles), prices on Yandex.Market Well, the specifications are actually flagship. Which is not often found in smartphones with a 5" display, but there are many people who love phones with a relatively small display. (I'm not one of them, however.) However, only one SIM card attracts attention, and even lack of memory card support is somehow completely uncharacteristic for Chinese manufacturers. By the way, this version arrived without 4G (LTE) support, but there are models with 4G support on the market (including for Russia). Contents of delivery A traditional Xiaomi box made of recycled cardboard in the style of “Why do you need a beautiful box?” But everything inside is at least somehow packaged, and not lying around, as happens with some manufacturers. The kit is the simplest: smartphone, USB-microUSB cable, power adapter (they either stick the European adapter with tape to the box, as I did with the Xiaomi Mi Pad tablet, or simply attach it separately, as was the case here), a clip for the SIM slot -map and brochures.
Appearance and features There are no frills or highlights in the design of the smartphone, but it looks quite good: high-quality white glossy plastic, metal ends with cut chamfers. One of the journalists wrote that Mi4 supposedly resembles iPhone 5 - in my opinion, nothing in common. Here's the iPhone 5s. And what? Are the ends metal? So, a lot of smartphones have metal ones. The back cover of Mi4 is glossy white plastic. Considering the fact that the lid is non-removable, everything fits perfectly here: nothing creaks or cracks anywhere. But we pay for it non-removable battery, lack of a memory card and lack of a second SIM card. This is an expensive price, in my opinion, it would be better if the lid crackled, but there were two more slots. (Especially since non-removable lid people manage to get out of the situation, like, for example, Huawei, in whose smartphones you can now choose whether to install a second SIM card or a memory card.) On the left side there is a slot for a SIM card. Pulls out with a paper clip. The top end is a headset output, an infrared port (so that the smartphone can work universal remote control management).
The right side has a volume rocker and a power button.
The bottom end has a speaker (a microphone is also hidden there), and a microUSB output.
Management is carried out touch buttons located below the screen. The buttons are marked - these are “menu”, “home” and “return”; they can also be illuminated during operation (the duration of the illumination can be set). You can set a specific action for a long press of each button.
Here is this smartphone next to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
The phone makes a very decent impression: it looks good, fits quite comfortably in the hand, which is also facilitated by its relatively small size. Display It uses an IPS-LCD display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels, made using OGS technology and having 441 pixels per inch. The display is covered with tempered protective glass, the manufacturer of which is not named. The glass is scratch-resistant, has an oleophobic coating and an anti-glare filter. Viewing angles are very good, image quality is almost excellent. By the way, here you can adjust the color temperature. The brightness margin is good: in normal daylight I set it to 50%. In direct sunlight the image remains quite visible. Automatic brightness adjustment works very, very crookedly: it either does not react at all to changes in lighting conditions, or sets some unacceptable values. However, this happens quite often in Android phones. In general, I really liked the display. Firmware installation Interestingly, a smartphone came to me from China with some kind of crooked version of MIUI, where the exposed Russian interface was reproduced with spaces between any letters (that is, all words became twice as long), so you can imagine what kind of pornography came out of it - I didn’t have the slightest desire to take screenshots of such crookedness. However, Xiaomi has built-in MI-Recovery: you can turn off the phone, then turn it on while holding the power button and volume up, and the corresponding program will launch. There you select English.

In the menu that appears there is an item "Install update.zip to System". That is, all you have to do is get the desired firmware, throw it into the root phone folder, then turn it off, turn it on in Mi-Recovery and reflash it.

I chose the firmware. I didn't find the right one right away. First I installed Cyanogenmod - the one I found turned out to be terribly crooked. Then I decided to install Miui after all: the first two simply did not install. In the end, I found a very nice MIUI 5.9.13 firmware - so it installed without any problems. Device operation This is a modification of MIUI, so there is no separate application window here. Main desktop.

Second desktop with applications.

Quick switch area.

A lock window from which you can also go to your phone app or camera. Also, if you press and hold the “Home” button, the flashlight will light up, this is very convenient.

MIUI users can register a corresponding account on account.xiaomi.com, after which they will have access to cloud service(up to 5 GB), in which you can automatically save contacts, messages, photos, calls, notes, Wi-Fi settings, clock settings, voice recorder entries, calendar entries, browser data, black lists, music, applications and search history. Telephone Incoming call - the image is displayed on the entire screen.

Talk mode - the image disappears for some reason. It is possible to record a conversation.

Audibility is good, there were no complaints about the quality. There is noise reduction here, the second microphone is located above the camera, but I didn’t like the result of this system too much - I’ve seen better noise reduction. Mobile Internet showed high speed for these testing conditions.

Via Wi-Fi for mine home network the speed was also completely normal.

Audio The sound of the built-in speaker is good. Quite loud, without crackling or wheezing, there are even some hints of bass. In-ear headphones ( Huawei Ultimo Power ANC Earphone) - very good: there is some volume, the bass is decent for this type of “ear”, the highs could be cleaner. But in general, you can listen to music.Headphones-ear pads ( Plantronics BackBeat Pro in wired mode) - not enough bass, a little flat and I would like the highs to be much clearer.Headphones with an OMTP connector (Philips SHPI800) - decent highs, the sound is flat, the bass is somewhere completely behind.

In general, this smartphone will not handle high-quality music (although it depends on the headphones used), but it is suitable for all other audio tasks. In any case, I would trust Bilan to him. Video This smartphone plays 4K video without any problems even on a software decoder. Accordingly, videos of any other resolutions run without any problems.
GPS It picks up satellites very quickly, determines coordinates stably, and does not fly off the road when navigating.

Games The hardware here is good, it allows you to comfortably play any Android games, including 3D games. Asphalt 8 was set to maximum quality settings.

By the way, what is important is that even during this game the back cover of the smartphone - a common problem with productive systems - practically did not heat up. Settings The settings in this firmware are very diverse and provide interesting opportunities.

Manage notifications.

Do Not Disturb mode.

Parental control- a very useful thing.

Advanced settings.

Button customization.

About the device.

Camera The camera interface is very simple.

Filters.

Main functions.

Advanced camera settings.

Now let's look at sample pictures. (Clickable, when clicked, options open 1920 pixels wide.)

Selfie example - with default settings. By the way, in addition to the usual face blurring mode, there is also a wrinkle removal mode. The camera also tries to determine how old the face in the frame is. She generously gave me 29 years old - she was not much mistaken. Well, I should also add that the camera has a QR code detection mode. It works so-so, but it might come in handy somewhere. Two video examples. The first is with FullHD resolution, the second is with 4K resolution.

Well what can I say? In my opinion, the camera is very decent. It shoots sharply, the colors are natural, the white balance in the machine behaves tolerably, it rarely misses focusing (especially since there is a mode for focusing and shooting by touching the screen). It also shoots video quite well, although it lacks a stabilizer. (However, I have not yet seen effective video stabilizers in smartphones.) Compare, for example, with the Elephone P7000 - the camera there is noticeably worse. System and performance System data according to CPU-Z.

Sensors.

AnTuTu Benchmark gave this smartphone a score of 45,569, which means it is among the top ten best performing smartphones.

I had no complaints about the speed of the smartphone: it doesn’t lag, it works smoothly and quickly. Battery life Qualcomm's fast charging feature is supported here. Quick Charge charges a completely discharged smartphone to 80% in about 45 minutes. It charged from 0 to 100% from its own adapter in just under two hours. The declared battery capacity is 3080 mAh. The tests showed the same thing.
Test modes. (In tests, automatic brightness adjustment, as I usually do, was disabled.) Internet. The brightness is set to a comfortable 50%, everything is on wireless network, the browser refreshes the page every 30 seconds. 9 hours 30 minutes. Quite decent. Video. Wireless communications are turned off, the brightness is set to a comfortable 50%, and a video of the series is playing in a loop in MK Player. Almost the same as in the previous test - 9 hours 15 minutes. (I thought there would be more.) Under almost normal load, the smartphone normally survived until the evening, and there was about 30-40% of the charge left. It barely survived two days in my mode of use. In the most active mode (navigation, Internet, calls, instant messenger, a lot of photos), the battery lasted about 5 hours. This is completely normal. So over time, there are no records of battery life, but the indicators are at the expected level. Observations during operation and conclusions Apart from glitches with the firmware with which the phone arrived from the TinyDeal store (a similar story, by the way, was with the Xiaomi Mi Pad tablet, which came from the European Amazon), after installing the normal firmware there were no more problems. The smartphone worked very stable, no complaints there were none. There was even virtually no heating when using “heavy” applications, and this problem, as I already said, is observed in many high-end smartphones. In general, I clearly liked the phone, although I am not yet a particular fan of the brand itself. But here we have truly flagship characteristics - in almost all components - and in a device with relatively small size display. Many users complain that if they don’t like 5.5-6" displays, they can’t really find a smartphone with good characteristics, because, they say, small phones usually have very modest parameters. And just in this case - a very productive device with flagship parameters. And even the camera is good - I was afraid that there would be problems with the camera. Yes, the smartphone costs $300, not $150, but this is quite consistent with the installed hardware. (How much do Sony want for their Xperia Compact 5, which is 4.4" with HD resolution? $620? Well, well...) By the way, if using 4G (LTE) is important to you, look for a model that supports Russian frequencies, such There is also a model with 4G for Russia, and the phone supports two SIM cards - it is called Xiaomi Mi4i. P.S. From the TinyDeal store, the discount coupon for this smartphone is 2GXMM48off. Valid through September 30th, price will be $275.99.
