Insert audio into your presentation on all slides. Add music to a PowerPoint presentation

When creating a presentation, there is often a need to play music. Luckily, the PowerPoint presentation editor allows you to do this in just a couple of clicks.

In this article we will talk about how to insert music into a PowerPoint presentation and onto all slides at once. The instructions will be relevant for PowerPoint 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016.

How to Insert Music into a PowerPoint 2007, 2010, 2013, or 2016 Presentation

If you are using PowerPoint 2007, 2010, 2013 or 2016, then in order to insert music into your presentation, you need to open the slide on which you want the music to start and go to the “Insert” tab. Here, on the “Insert” tab, you need to click on the “Sound” button and select “Sound from file” in the menu that opens.

After this, a window will open to select a file. Select the file with the music you need and a small player with a picture of a speaker will appear in the presentation.

By default, playback of the inserted music begins only after clicking on the “Play” button. If this option for starting music is not suitable for your presentation, then you can enable automatic playback. To do this, you need to select with the mouse the image of the speaker that appeared after inserting the music, and go to the “Playback” tab. There is a drop-down menu that allows you to choose how you want to start playing music.

Three playback options are available:

  • On click – music playback starts after clicking the “Play” button;
  • Automatic – music playback starts automatically when a slide is shown and ends after moving to the next slide;
  • For all slides – music playback starts automatically when a slide is shown and continues on all subsequent slides;

In addition, there are other functions in the Playback tab that may be useful to you. We'll look at some of these features next.

On the Playback tab, you can enable continuous playback. In this case, the music inserted into the PowerPoint presentation will play in a loop. This is very convenient if you want music to play throughout your presentation.

By checking the box next to the “Hide when showing” function, you will hide the speaker image when showing the slide.

Volume. Using the Volume drop-down menu, you can change the volume of music inserted into your presentation. There are four volume levels available: quiet, medium, loud and mute.

How to add music to a video? Use Movavi Video Editor and these simple instructions.

Install Movavi Video Editor

Download the video editor in Russian from our website. Once the download is complete, run the program installation file and follow the installation instructions.

Add video and audio to the program

Launch our program for adding music to video and select New Project. Click the Add Files button and select the video you want to add an audio track to and the audio file that will be used as the soundtrack. The files you upload will be automatically added to the corresponding tracks on the editing table: video - to the Video Track, audio - to the Audio Track.

Adjust sound duration

When you combine music and video, you may encounter that the added video and audio files have different durations. There are two possible options here.

  • The audio file is longer than the video. Click on the audio, move the slider to the end of the video file on the timeline and click on the Scissors icon. Then click on the unwanted audio fragment and press Delete on your keyboard to delete the fragment.
  • The video is longer than the music. Add multiple copies of the selected audio file to the audio track (right-click on the file and select Copy and then Paste). Trim off the excess.

Remember that in Movavi Video Editor you can insert multiple audio tracks into a video at once. For example, one track can be used for background music and another for special sound effects.

Save the result

Adding sound to video turned out to be quite simple. Now all that remains is to record everything into one video file. Click the Save button and select one of the export options from the tabs on the left side of the window. The program will offer to save the video to the Movavi Library folder. You can change the folder if you wish. Specify the video format or model of your mobile device and click the Start button. When the saving process is complete, you will find the finished video file in the selected folder. Now you know how to add sound to video!

The PowerPoint multimedia report creation tool offers a wide range of additional features. One of them is background music for a presentation, which in many cases will be appropriate during a slide show. There are certain rules on how to insert and play it.

How to make music for a presentation

Before you make a presentation with music, you need to choose a suitable melody. It is important to determine the extent to which the background will help to perceive the speaker’s information and not distract attention from it. A good option is to use music for a presentation without words, because the song will drown out or disturb the speaker. In order to add sound, you do not need any additional extensions; all actions are performed through the PowerPoint settings panel.

Audio File Format

Sound accompaniment to the presentation is usually used in two formats - wav and mp3. The first can be embedded directly into the report if it does not exceed 100 KB, otherwise the background track is associated with the presentation, but is located in a different folder. If necessary, you can increase the allowed media file size to 50,000 KB, but this will increase the size of the finished report. All other audio formats are always stored separately. Once a track is added to the page, a speaker icon should appear to indicate there is sound.

When you create a linked file in the program, a link to its location on the computer appears, if after this the background is moved, the application will not be able to find it and start playing. Before inserting music into a presentation, it is recommended to move the composition to the same folder where the report itself is located - then even if the location changes, PowerPoint will be able to use the audio track.

Another option to use the associated ringtone if there is a file in the same folder as the report is to use the “Prepare for CD” option. This option allows you to copy all used add-ons to one folder or CD, and updates links to them automatically. To transfer a report with a background from one computer to another, you must copy it with all associated files.

To one slide
  • In the top menu, find the “Structure” tab and the “Slides” item, click on it.
  • Select which page you want to insert the sound on.
  • Click the "Insert" tab, go to the "Media Clips" sub-item and click the arrow under the "Sound" button.
  • Next you need to do one of the following:
    • click the “Sound from picture collection” command, in the “Picture collection” task area, go to the desired file and click on it to insert it into the report;
    • Click “Sound from file”, go to the storage folder, double click on the audio track.

After you have inserted music into the presentation, a window will appear asking you to indicate how the track will start playing. You can select the option by clicking the mouse or automatically. In the second case, the sound will turn on immediately when you switch to a slide with it, provided that there are no other effects (animation, etc.). If they are present, the background will play at the end, after all other multimedia effects. In the first case, there will be a sound image (trigger) on the page, clicking on which will start the track.

How to stretch music across multiple slides

In some cases, it is necessary to insert a media file onto several slides at once, when viewing which it should sound. To do this, do the following:

  • Find the Animation tab and select Animation Settings from the list.
  • Click the arrow to the right of the sound file you want and click Effect Options.
  • In the “Effect” tab, find the “Stop Playback” option and click on the “After” option.
  • Specify the number of pages for which the background should play when shown.
  • This question comes up very often, so I decided to devote a separate article to it in the lessons. Since HTML does not have a universal technology for playing audio for all browsers, to solve this problem I suggest downloading the audio player file, as is done on most sites. We do everything step by step:

    1. On the hosting where your site is located, in the root directory (the folder where the index file is), create the audio folder. In the future you will place all audio files into it.

    3. Now select the files you need, preferably in mp3 format. Create an audio folder in the root of the site and upload them.

    4. All that remains is to insert the player connection code. It is suitable for any site. In the right place, you just need to indicate the path to the player file and audio file, respectively replacing the words your_domain and audio_file name:

And everything is ready! You can also look at the working example.

How to install background music in html Using the capabilities of HTML and the browser, you can also insert background music into the page. You will need an audio file in the desired format: WAV, AU, MIDI or MP3. You can use any file with the specified extension as an example.

The first way is the embed tag. The embed element is used to load and display objects (for example, video files, flash movies, some audio files, etc.) that the browser does not initially understand.

    The syntax is quite simple:

A closing tag is not required.

Now let’s look at an example of a record with attributes, and below with their decoding:

Embed tag attributes for playing audio in html
width - panel width in pixels (or percentage)
height - panel height in pixels (or percentage)
align - position of the panel relative to the text, possible values are left, right, center
hidden - allows you to hide the panel, attribute values: true - the panel is hidden, false - the panel is visible (default value)
autostart - true - the player starts automatically when the page loads, false - waits for the play button to be pressed
loop - loop, true - the track is played in a circle, and if false - only once

Second way. Very old, but also practical) Add the melody to the same folder (directory) where your file is located, and in the body write the following code:

As a result, after loading the page, the melody you specified in the bgsound tag will sound. Now let's take a better look at the tag attributes:

src - path to your audio file
loop - how many times to repeat the melody (if -1, then repeats endlessly)
balance - stereo balance value (from -10000 to 10000)
volume - melody playback volume, where 0 is the maximum, and -10000 is the minimum.

However, there will be no way to control the player in any way - every time the page is refreshed, the track will be played again.

After describing the method of inserting background music, I want to dissuade you from this, since most users, as a rule, already listen to music when they visit various sites. Therefore, accompanying music can only force him to close the tab with the site.

Inserting audio and music in HTML5 - audio tag
audio - a paired tag that defines background sound, music or other audio stream on the site.

    Audio tag attributes

autoplay - the file is played immediately when the page is loaded (similar to bgsound background music)
controls - display the player control panel in the browser
loop - plays the file again after it ends
preload - the audio file will be loaded along with the page loading
src - path to the audio file (mp3 or ogg)

    Example code with audio tag

The audio tag is not supported by your browser.
    Download music.

Many users, when creating presentations, add melodies, songs, etc. to the presentation. The presentation on the user's computer is shown with sound, but other computers do not have sound, so what is the reason?

The reason is that the “Insert” tab was used to insert sound and paths were written to the sound file that are not on other computers.

Let's consider the option of how to insert sound into a Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2007 presentation so that the sound can be played on other computers.

    1. Create a presentation and several slides (I created the simplest presentation).

    2. Go to the "Animation" tab and in the "transition sound" field, select "" from the list.

    3. In the window that opens, select the sound.

It is important that the sound file is in .wav format (If the file is in MP.3 format, it can be converted to wav format using the FormatFactory program).

    4. Go to the second slide and in the “transition sound” field, select “No sound” from the list and click “”.

    5. Return to the first slide and in the “transition sound” field, select “added sound” from the list.
It’s important that you don’t click the apply to all button; this transition sound should only be on the first slide.

    6. Save the presentation, do not press the Esc button when saving and check the functionality. After saving, the weight (volume) of the presentation should be much greater.

Important for users with earlier versions of Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2000/XP/2003.

Sound is added in the menu item "Slide show" - "Change slides".
