Installing a wifi router tp link. Connecting and configuring a tp link router

For example, a router is installed in a house or apartment, but in the back room a laptop, phone or tablet has a weak signal level. At the same time, it is so weak that connection is sometimes impossible.

Of course, you can connect a more powerful Wi-Fi adapter to your laptop, but what to do with your phone and tablet? In this case, we will be helped by an access point that supports the operating mode - repeater or repeater. Access point TL-WR740N will connect via Wi-Fi to your router and transmit the wireless signal further than a phone, tablet or other client device can. With the help of a TP-Link repeater, you can boost wifi signal for your devices.

Setting up an access point in Wi-Fi repeater mode

TP Link Router connects to a computer or laptop using a twisted pair cable. Power is connected to the access point using the power supply. Network card settings should be set to default.

After setting up the access point, the cable from the computer to the access point can be disconnected.

Open the browser Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Opera, Chrome or any other, and enter the address 192.168.0.1 . This is by default, it can also be viewed on the bottom of the router.

Enter your username in the next window. admin, password admin.

Open the menu: Wireless mode - Wireless mode settings -.

After – a group of text boxes will appear below. Press the "Search" button

In the window that appears, click "Connection" opposite the Wifi network to which we will connect.

Select the type of encryption: open, or . In the last column, enter wifi network password to which we want to connect. We also install channel number, the same as the Wi-Fi network with which we want to create a WDS connection.

After that, save the settings by clicking the Save button. If the wifi channel of the network is different from the required one, then you will receive the following notice:

The channel of your access point does not match the channel of the bridged access point, do you want to change your channel to the channel of the bridged access point?

We confirm, and the channel should automatically change to the correct one.

Now it remains only to configure wifi network security settings. Go to the menu: Wireless mode - Wireless protection. We select the type of encryption and the password that is used on the router to which our TP-Link repeater is connected. In our case, encryption was used.

Please note that if you use on your router, then in the fields Type, WEP Key Format, WEP Key, Key Type settings similar to the router to which the access point will connect should be specified. Otherwise, the TP-Link repeater will not connect to the router. Don't forget to indicate correct region where your router is located. If the source router has a different number in the channel column, then the repeater cannot connect to the router due to incorrectly specified security parameters.

After setting the security settings, save the settings with the Save button and reboot.

Checking WDS Mode Activation

You can find out that the TP-Link repeater was able to connect to the router in the menu State.

Open the menu and look at the connection settings. In field Name ()- the name of the wifi network should appear, in the field - the poppy of the router distributing the network, and also channel number and other options.

Connecting equipment to a Wi-Fi network with WDS

You can connect to WDS WiFi network smartphone with Wi-Fi, tablet or laptop. To connect a laptop to a Wi-Fi network, in the lower right corner of the screen we find the icon for managing Wi-Fi connections. In the list, select our Wi-Fi network and click the "Connect" button.

Enter the password to connect to the Wi-Fi network, which was set in the router settings. After that, the laptop will connect to the Wi-Fi network.

Checking the connection of devices to the Wi-Fi repeater

After connecting any wireless device (laptop, phone, tablet) to the Wi-Fi network, check that the device has connected to the repeater, and not to the router. To do this, on the access point, open the menu Wireless mode - Wireless statistics and see the devices connected to the TP-Link repeater.

If the MAC address of your device is not in the list, and the Internet is working on it, then the device has connected to the router, because at this point the signal of the router is better than the signal of the repeater. Set the access point away from the router and connect next to it. If the device is still unable to connect to the access point, check that the access point is connected to the router and that it has the correct encryption type and password in the security settings.

In this article I will tell you how you can do the initial configuration of Tp-link routers. The advantage of this company in terms of settings is that almost all Tp-link routers are configured in almost the same way.

In addition, they have an intuitive port color scheme. And even an inexperienced user will not have to think about where to connect which cable.

We will configure the router in three stages:

  1. Internet connection setup
  2. Setting up Wi-Fi on the router

So let's get started.

Preparing the router for configuration

We turn on the router in the network. We connect the provider's cable to the blue port on the router.

If you do not have this cable, then you can connect to the router via Wi-fi from any device.

We launch any browser and go to the site 196.168.0.1

If this data is not suitable, then you can reset the settings on the router. To do this, press the Reset button and hold for 10 seconds. All indicators on the router should blink. After that, we wait about a minute until the router boots up and try to log in again.

Setting up an Internet connection on a Tp Link router

To set up a connection, we will need data from your provider. They should have been given to you when you connected. If these data are not available, then it will be necessary to call the support service and clarify how to obtain them. It will also be possible to clarify the protocol by which you connect to the Internet (PPPoE, PPtP, L2TP, etc.) We will configure PPPoE, since this is the most common protocol used to connect to the Internet.

  • On the left menu, select the Network section (Netwotk)
  • Next, select the protocol by which you are connecting (PPPoE, PPtp, L2Tp, etc.)
  • We type the login and password issued by the provider (if you have a PPtP connection, then you still need to specify the server address)
  • Secondary connection put an end to Dynamic IP
  • WAN connection mode put a dot on Connect automatically
  • Click the Save button and wait for the page to refresh.

After the page is refreshed, open a new tab. If you did everything right, then the Internet should already work. It remains to set up WiFi.

Setting up Wifi on a Tp Link router

Setting up Wifi is easy. If you have a dual-band router, then Wifi is configured separately for each 2.4GHz and 5GHz band!

  • On the left, select the section Wireless network (Wireless)
  • In the Network name (SSID) field, specify the name of the new Wifi network in Latin letters
  • Mode: 11bgn Mixed Channel: Auto
  • Click Save. If the router offers to reboot, then it's too early.

Now set a password for the Wifi network:

  • On the left, select the Wireless Security section
  • We choose protection WPA / WPA2 - Personal or WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK
  • We select the version WPA2-PSK, and AES encryption
  • Click Save

If the router offers to reboot the router (a red line appears), then we reboot. After the reboot, we check the WiFi connection, everything should work.

Happy using!

A router is an inconspicuous, but one of the most important devices for a modern Internet user. With the simplicity of the main function, which is to provide wireless access to the network, the router is characterized by a huge number of settings. Of these, however, only a few will be of interest to the average user - those that provide the connection of the device to the Internet and are responsible for the wireless connection of computers with the router. Consider them, as well as a number of other notable router options using the popular TP-LINK TL-WR841N router as an example.

How to connect a TP-LINK router to the Internet

The first task when setting up a router is connecting the device to the Internet. A router is an "intermediary" between the provider's server and the user's computer. Therefore, in order for the latter to be able to access the network, an “intermediary” must first be connected to it. To do this, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Connecting to the router control panel

Almost any router is configured using the proprietary control panel for the device. Access to it is carried out through the browser - the one that you use on an ongoing basis.

First of all, you need to physically connect the router to the computer. There are 2 options for this connection:

1. Wired

You can refer to it as the main one. With a wired connection, the likelihood of certain failures / freezes in the router setup procedure is minimized.

To apply the considered option for connecting the router to a PC:

  1. Turn on the router and computer.
  2. Take a twisted-pair cable, that is, with connectors at both ends.
  3. Plug one end of the cable into the computer's Ethernet port and the other end into the same port on the back of the router (until it clicks in both cases).
  4. Wait 1 minute.

2. Wireless

The considered option can be used if the twisted-pair wire is not at hand or the PC does not have an Ethernet port (this happens on many "super-thin" laptops or tablets, on which such a port is, in principle, very rare). But you need to make sure that there are no microwave ovens, cordless phones, electrical panels, or other working routers in the room near the router. All of these devices are capable of interfering with Wi-Fi networks. If there is no reason to talk about their impact, then to connect to the router:

    1. Boot your PC, open the list of Wi-Fi networks available for connection, take a screenshot of them or, if there are few networks, remember their list.

  1. Turn on the router, wait 3 minutes.
  2. Open the list of Wi-Fi networks again and by comparing it with the original one, "calculate" a new Wi-Fi network (most likely, its name will include the TP-LINK brand name).
  3. Connect to a new network.

As a rule, entering a password to enter the network in such cases when using TP-LINK routers is not required.

If it was not possible to “calculate” a new network in the list, then this most likely means that data transfer via Wi-Fi is disabled by default in the firmware of a particular router model. You will have to use the wired option to gain access to the control panel of the router.

By connecting the PC to the router, you can enter the device control panel. For this:

  1. Open any browser, enter in the address bar: 192.168.0.1 and click Enter.

    If the specified address does not work (the browser will display the message "Page not found" or similar), then you can try 192.168.1.1.

  2. On the loaded page, in the top field, enter admin (this is the login to enter the control panel), below - also admin (this is the password). Click Enter.

It is possible that the specified data for entering the control panel (address, login, password) for some reason will not work. This probably means that the previous user set non-standard router settings. You need to reset them to factory settings.

To do this, you need to find a button on the router case. RESET.

button RESET you need to press and hold for 1-2 seconds, which will require a sharp and durable object. After resetting the settings, you will need to wait - about 3 minutes until the router reboots. Then you need to try again to enter the control panel using the above data - it should work.

So, we are in the control panel of the router, which is controlled through the browser. With the help of the tools available in it, we will solve our main task: setting up a router connection to the Internet.

Step 2: Setting Up Your Router's Internet Connection

Before performing any actions, you need to connect the router to the cable for connecting to the Internet, which is laid by the provider. In the case of the router in question, this is an RJ-45 cable (digital connection to the provider using Ethernet technology). Other routers may support fiber and ADSL connectivity.

    1. The tab is responsible for setting up the router's connection to the Internet. Network. It is fourth from the top in the list of settings tabs, which is located on the left.

Let's agree that the menu items of the router control panel under consideration will be in English - despite the fact that many types of TP-LINK firmware are characterized by the presence of control panel interfaces that are translated into Russian. The use of English terms, firstly, will allow us to avoid possible discrepancies in the translation of certain menu items, and secondly, it will allow us, if necessary, to navigate in the control panels of other router models that are not Russified in terms of controls.

    1. Choose a tab Network, and then immediately go to the tab WAN.
    2. On the tab WAN we are only interested in the point WAN Connection Type. This is a drop-down list of internet connection types supported by the router. Among them, you need to choose the one that is used by the provider. To find out the specific type of connection, you need to contact the provider.

    1. If you press the button "Detect", which is located to the right of the list WAN Connection Type, then the router will try to automatically determine the type of connection and offer it to the user.

Note that when setting up a PPPoE connection (and others that will be discussed below), you may need to specify not a dynamic IP address, but a static one - Static IP. It is provided by the provider for an additional fee (sometimes under a separate agreement) and, as a rule, is not in great demand from ordinary users.

Basically, organizations order a static IP address. For example, to ensure the security of data transmission during authorization in the bank-client system - when such authorization provides for connection to a specific IP address, which in this case cannot be assigned to anyone else.

If the user ordered a static IP address from the provider, then the communication service provider needs to find out:

  • The exact value of this IP address ( IP address);
  • subnet mask ( "Subnet Mask");
  • main gateway ( Gateway);

All these data are indicated in the window WAN if the option is enabled "Static IP". If PPPoE is used, then only the first 2 parameters will need to be specified (at the same time, it is supposed to activate the option "Static IP" in step "Secondary connection").

3. L2TP and PPTP

If the provider works according to this communication standard, then:

  1. Select the appropriate item in the list WAN Connection Type.
  2. Enter your login and password.
  3. Below - "Dynamic IP", then - "Connect Automatically".
  4. Click Save.

In some cases, you need to specify the IP address set by the provider for the server (the item appears in the window "Server IP"). It also needs to be obtained from your service provider.

For PPTP, the settings will be completely identical.

If the settings we have reviewed do not fit, then most likely you will have to call the support service of the communication service provider for additional advice.

After setting the desired settings for the type of connection and pressing Save we will move on to solving the next task - setting up a Wi-Fi network.

WiFi setup

Even if the user has made a wireless connection to the router in order to set the Internet connection settings, the Wi-Fi network at that moment cannot be considered optimized for continuous use. It is necessary to “finish” it, and in the case of a wired connection, configure it from scratch.

To do this, after pressing the button Save tab WAN Connection Type go to tab "Wireless".

Select an item "Wireless Settings". These are the basic wireless network settings. In him:

  1. Specify the name of the Wi-Fi network, or rename the suggested one (SSID item).
  2. Choose the country ( Region), Wi-Fi channel number, or mark it as automatic selection by the router ( channel, recommended Auto).
  3. Select a wireless standard ( Mode, working version - "11bgn mixed").
  4. Select channel width ( "Channel Width", can choose Automatic).
  5. Select the maximum baud rate ( Max Tx Rate, you can at the maximum value).

You must also check the boxes (or make sure they are already checked) in front of the items:

  • "Enable Wireless Router Radio"(that is, in fact, turn on Wi-Fi);
  • "Enable SSID Broadcast"(that is, activate the option to detect a Wi-Fi network by its name - SSID, set by the user in the previous step).
  • Click Save.

Choose an item "Wireless Security". These are the security settings for accessing a Wi-Fi network from computers within the Wi-Fi coverage area. In him:

  1. Check the box next to the option WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK.
  2. Listed by item version select an option "WPA2-PSK", "Encryption"Automatic.
  3. In field PSK Password enter the password to enter the Wi-Fi network.
  4. IN "Group Key Update Period" enter "3600".
  5. Click Save.

This set of settings provides reliable protection of the Wi-Fi network from unauthorized connection to it. It is very important that network protection be based, one way or another, on the WPA2 standard (in combination with one or another data encryption algorithm - for example, PSK).

Restart the configured router: select System Tools > Reboot and click on the button Reboot.

It will take about 3 minutes to reboot the router. After that, they can be fully used. On the computer in the list of Wi-Fi networks, the one that we have given a suitable name in the SSID field will appear. To enter it, you will need to enter the previously entered by us in the field PSK Password password.

If the new password is forgotten, then you will need to:

  1. Log in to the Control Panel in a "wired" way.
  2. Select "Wireless", then "Wireless Security".
  3. Find a line PSK Password and see the password.

If you examine the menu structure of the TP-LINK router control panel, you will find that there are dozens of other options. As a rule, ordinary users do not need to use them in one way or another. But among these options, there are some extremely useful, and therefore worthy of attention.

Setting up a TP-LINK router: other useful options

Indeed, there are plenty of settings for the router. Many of them are designed for experienced IT specialists, but, perhaps, most of them are understandable for an ordinary user who does not have special skills in the field of network administration. This could include options such as:

1. Protect access to the control panel of the router

The login and password known to us for entering the control panel of the router - admin and admin are installed in the firmware of the router by default. It is advisable to change them to user ones so that no other users have access to your router settings.

To change the factory login and password to enter the router control panel:

  1. Log in to the control panel with a standard username and password.
  2. Select tab System Tools, then - password.
  3. Enter admin in the field "Old User Name" and admin - in "Old Password".
  4. Enter a new username in the field "New User Name" and the new password New Password.
  5. Confirm the new password in the field "Confirm New Password".
  6. Click Save.

After we reboot the router in a way known to us ( System Tools > Reboot, button Reboot).

If you suddenly forget the password to enter the router, you will have to reset the device to factory settings by pressing RESET on the body of the device.

2. Restricting access to a Wi-Fi network from computers with a specific MAC address

A MAC address is a unique identifier for a computer's network card (in this case, a Wi-Fi card) that provides data transfer over the network. To change this address, you will need to replace the network card, which in some cases is almost impossible without losing the functionality of the computing device - for example, if it is a smartphone or tablet.

Therefore, if you restrict access to a Wi-Fi network by the MAC address of a computer known to the administrator, the user of this computer will not be able to connect to the network via Wi-Fi. To set such a limit:

    1. Open a tab "Wireless", then - "Wireless MAC Filtering".
    2. Click the button "Enable" opposite the option "Wireless MAC Filtering".
    3. Choose the option that starts with words "Allow the stations".
    4. Click "Add New".

  1. On the page that opens, enter the MAC address of the device whose access you want to deny, enter any description of this device ( Description), select "Enable" in option Status.
  2. Click Save.

After the banned computer appears in the list on the page "Wireless MAC Filtering".

If on the tab "Wireless MAC Filtering" select the option that starts with words Deny the Stations, the opposite rule to deny access will be set. The computers with the listed MAC addresses will be the only ones that can access the Wi-Fi network. Others will be denied access.

3. Limiting the data transfer rate in a Wi-Fi network

This option is useful when a large number of computers are supposed to be connected to the network at the same time. To set a speed limit for a specific computer connected to a Wi-Fi network (groups of computers):

    1. Select "Bandwidth Control" > "Rules List".

  1. Click "Add New" and in the window that opens, check the box "Enable".
  2. In field IP Range mark the range of local IP addresses for which the speed limit is set (or specify the same IP address twice - so that the limit is set for a specific computer with such an IP address).
  3. Set a limit on outgoing traffic ( "Egress Bandwidth") – minimum, maximum (in kilobits per second), the same for incoming traffic ( "Ingress Bandwidth").
  4. Click Save.

If you select the item Control Settings tab "Bandwidth Control", then you can set a general traffic limit for the entire network.

Conclusion

Setting up most modern routers - including those that belong to the TP-LINK brand line, consists mainly in setting the correct settings in terms of connecting the router to the Internet and setting the necessary options in terms of protecting the Wi-Fi network. TP-LINK routers have a fairly convenient and logical interface that allows you to configure network connections and Wi-Fi even for inexperienced users. They also have a large number of useful options for optimizing the network.

- favorites among devices that supply Wi-Fi. They are given the championship cup for their laconic design and a wide range of activities. Finding a model in the collection that is suitable in terms of design and characteristics will not be difficult, but in order to understand the settings of the router, you will have to “sweat” a little.

To help beginners, the article offers brief instructions on how to connect a router to a PC and start using the Internet without wires. The guide consists of 5 stages of quick activation, upon completion of which it will be possible to catch wi-fi anywhere in the apartment.

Determination of the IP address

The first item is the search for network settings for authorization. There are only three types of them:

  1. Dynamic (Dynamic IP);
  2. Static (Static IP).
  3. Access via PPPoE protocol.

And now - how to get them. For example, a user with Windows 10, to which the provider's cable is connected. Internet is active. In this case, to find out the address of the operator, a person needs to go through the following route:

  • at the beginning, click on "Start" - "Settings";
  • then find the inscription "Home page";
  • in the proposed options, activate the "Network Control Center".

Now the "Change adapter setting" field.

The screen will display a column with the word "Internet". Click on "Properties", and after that - in the list of "IP version 4 TCP / IPv4" one more click on the field with the same name.

The above maneuvers were carried out in order to find out the type of connection to the operator (see where the default icon is). If it is located in the "Obtain an IP address automatically" area, then synchronization is performed through Dynamic IP. In this case, you can activate all the settings in an instant, without spending time and effort. The process is carried out independently of the actions of the user.
When the “Use the following IP address” field is active in the window and the numbers in the cells are indicated, this indicates the use of Static IP. In this case, the received data should be written out on a piece of paper, because they will be useful for subsequent actions with a router like.

Why was all this necessary? From this stage, the upcoming TP-Link WI-FI router settings will depend on the received IP address and differ in their set of procedures. But more on that later.

Installation and regulation of device activity

It's time to connect your purchase to your laptop or use Wi-Fi. In the process you need:

  • provider cable (by this time it should already provide Internet access to the house);
  • patch cord (power cord);
  • actually, a computer;
  • router of the selected model.

At the next stage, these elements must be assembled into a single structure. There are several connectors on the back of the router. Most often there are 4-5 of them, while TP-Link painted these ports in a different tone. It is important to remember that the blue Wan connector is used only for the Internet cable (there is only one), and the rest are for synchronization with a PC.

You may be interested in information:

The connection process consists of 4 steps:

  1. We take out the provider patch cord from the laptop.
  2. We rearrange it to the Wan connector.
  3. We fix the selected router to the laptop with a power cord.
  4. Connect the device's power supply to a power outlet.

It remains the case for small things - to correctly configure the reception of the network.

On the reverse side of the router (for example,) its basic data and factory settings are indicated. From this information, you need to select the site address and enter it in the search column of the browser. A window immediately opens with fields for the login and password, which are written in the documentation or on the same sticker.

After that, the user has access to tools to change the functionality of the device. Let's start with the local network. The "Quick Settings" section is selected, in which you need to fill in all the fields: come up with a security password, the name of the wireless network, determine the number of channels, the signal reception time, etc.

Only after completing these steps, you can proceed to the activation of the free use of Internet space. To do this, open the "Network" and "WAN" tab. The first thing that appears at the top of the window is the connection type. This is the same IP address that was already determined using the instructions in the previous section. Depending on it, the further process has three different options.

It is worth noting that the web interfaces of all TP-Link models are similar to each other (and this is no exception). Understanding the key points is easy. Here are the basic data that you need to know to fill in each of them:

Connection type

Setting information
Dynamic IP The configuration is automatic, without any input by the user.
static IP In this case, you will need:
IP Address (IP address);
Subnet Mask (Subnet mask);
Default Gateway;
Primary DNS (Preferred DNS server);
Secondary DNS (Alternative DNS server).
PPPoE It is enough to know the username and password of the user.

Dynamic IP - network configuration in automatic mode

If the operator provides the user with Internet communication services through a dynamic address, the entire activation process takes a matter of seconds.

To establish a connection you need:

  • find the Dynamic IP item in the WAN list;
  • save changes;
  • go to the section System Tools - Reboot;
  • restart the device.

Now all the settings have begun to take effect and you can safely use the World Wide Web.

Static IP - use provider data

If the connection to the operator occurs using a static IP, first the desired address option is selected in the WAN line. A window will appear on the screen where you need to enter the provider's data. If they have already been written out on a piece of paper in advance, then problems should not arise here. The information is registered - click on the "Save" field. Further, similarly to the previous option, you need to restart the router.

PPPoE - remember login and password

Selecting this type of connection from the proposed menu, you need to fill in a few data:

  1. The subscriber's name and password, which is registered in the agreement with the provider.
  2. Mode of operation, that is, determine the exact hours or around the clock.

After that, click the "Connect" button. Within a few seconds, the device will be ready for use. You can make sure that the router is active at the bottom of the section. It should say "Connected".

Router Security: Quick Setup

In order not to distribute free Wi-Fi to all neighbors, it is better to immediately put protection on it. The most secure encoding is WPA-PSK/WP2-PSK.

Activating it is very simple:

  • section "Access Control" or "Security Setting";
  • mark next to the column with the desired name.

A prerequisite for a secure line is the presence of a cipher. You need to invent it, add it to the line and, preferably, remember or write it down. The cipher must contain at least 8 characters. It is better to use Latin letters mixed with numbers. When finished, be sure to restart the router. Thus, all the changes made will remain in the system.

Internet connection to the device

The final part of setting up the TP-Link router is turning on the laptop to receive a signal from the router. On the strip at the bottom of the screen, you need to find and select the network activation icon by clicking on the model name from the proposed list. To activate it, you need to enter the previously created password. Now left-click on the "Enable" or "Save" button. To test the operation of the device, we go online to any of the sites.

After that, you can synchronize any devices that support the Internet with Wi-Fi: a set-top box, other gadgets.

How to recover a lost password?

It happens that after a while the password for accessing the router settings is forgotten. If this happened, no problem.

The problem has several solutions:

  1. You can restore all original settings using the Reset button on the device panel.
  2. Log in to the web service from any connected device and see the forgotten password.
  3. Try the default admin/admin login credentials. Perhaps they haven't changed.

Choosing the first option, you will have to go through all the installation steps again.

Summary

At the end of the instructions for connecting a TP-Link router, it remains only to consider a few mistakes that beginners make when connecting a device:

  • before starting the activation process, the Wi-Fi button located on the back of the case is not pressed;
  • the username matches the name of the router model, which is why it is lost in the list;
  • operator parameters are incorrectly specified;
  • the wrong connector is selected for connecting the patch cord.

It's simple, nothing fancy. If you delve into it, then connecting the TP-Link router will take no more than 5-7 minutes. It is important not to rush and carefully follow the instructions.

In this small step-by-step instruction "for dummies" I will show how to connect a router to a computer using a network cable. If we are talking about a laptop that does not have a network connector, then this will not work - it must have an Ethernet port, or connect via WiFi. You can also configure the router both through the web interface and using the utility on the CD. We will analyze all possible options. I will be referring to connecting TP-Link TL-WR740N and TL-WR741ND routers, but this guide is suitable for any model. It makes no sense to make a separate guide for each one individually, since they are connected to a computer and the Internet and they are configured in exactly the same way, the difference is only in minor nuances that depend on their technical characteristics.

Connecting the router to a computer via a network cable

So, the first option is to connect the router to the computer using the network cable that is in the box with any device of this type. Typically, a stationary PC does not have a wireless module, so it is advisable to connect it with a wire.

In this case, it is necessary to strictly observe the purpose of the ports - that is, the connectors located on the back of the router case.

  • WAN - used to connect a cable from an Internet provider to it
  • LAN - for a patch cord from a computer

That is, we take out the Internet wire that was previously inserted into the computer and connect it to the port of the router, which is marked as WAN and often has a different color from the others. About what to do if, read separately.

Next, we insert the Ethernet cable at one end into the PC network connector - where the wire from the provider used to go, which was brought into your apartment when you connected the Internet. It is located on the back of the computer case. On a laptop, you need to look for it from the back or side

We connect the other end to any of several LAN ports on the router.

Installing a TP-Link Router via PC

"Start - Control Panel - Network and Internet - Network and Sharing Center - Manage network connections - Change adapter settings." Here we see "Local Area Connection". We click on it with the right mouse button, go to "Properties" and open "".

If something is written here, then we carefully copy it onto paper, after which we check the boxes for “Get an IP address” and “Get DNS servers” - AUTOMATICALLY

How to connect a TP-Link router to a laptop via WiFi?

Often, it is not possible to connect a router to a laptop via a cable, since the latter does not have the corresponding connector on the case. But this is not a problem, since all modern TP-Link routers have the ability to do this over WiFi. As soon as you turn it on, it will start distributing a wireless network with a name like "TP-LINK_XXX", which is open for connection.

But first you need to, as in the first case, go to "Change adapter settings", only this time select "Wireless network connection" for editing

And we also set the checkboxes to "automatic".

After that, we connect to this TP-Link wireless network. In newer versions, it happens that it is still protected by a password (PIN) - if so, you can find it on a sticker on the case.

The easiest option for further actions is to open a browser and enter the ip address where the router's admin panel is located. For TP-Link, in most cases it is 192.168.0.1, but in some models it also happens to be 192.168.1.1 - you can check this on the sticker located at the bottom of the device. Installing and connecting a computer to a router using a CD

Any TP-Link wireless router comes with a license disk with an installer program, with which you can connect to the Internet and set up wifi distribution. By and large, it is not needed, since it is easy to set all the necessary configurations in the admin panel through a regular browser, as we have already seen. However, since such an opportunity exists, why not figure out how to use it?

Connecting TP-Link to the Internet through a special utility that is included on the installation disk makes sense if you do not need any subtle frills in the network settings. It is much easier and more convenient to use step-by-step instructions that will tell you what to do. To do this, insert the CD into your computer drive and install the Setup Wizard.

Since it is universal for different models, first you need to select the TP-Link TL-WR740N or TL-WR741ND model from the list

and follow the detailed instructions.
