Wi-Fi doesn't work. Wi-Fi stopped working: solving problems on various devices

Very often I have to answer questions related to various problems that can be observed while connecting to wireless networks. When Wi-Fi does not work on a laptop. It is during the connection process that users encounter many problems. It turns out that the Wi-Fi adapter driver is not installed on the laptop, the question arises of how to enable it, or how to fix the error that appears during the connection process. But even if everything is connected successfully, troubles may await us there too in the form of lack of access to the Internet.

I decided to write one big article in which I will collect solutions to all the most popular problems and errors. The main task is to describe everything in simple language, and analyze all the options point by point, and of course write about the solutions. This instruction is suitable for Windows 10, Windows 8, and Windows 7. As a rule, most solutions are no different in different versions of Windows. As for the laptop itself, there is also not much difference. The tips are suitable for models from ASUS, HP, Lenovo, DEL, DNS, and even for ordinary desktop computers with Wi-Fi adapters.

Based on personal experience, comments on other articles, and the characteristics of the Windows operating system, I have identified 4 main problems that you may encounter when connecting to Wi-Fi on a laptop. I think the problem that brought you to this page fits exactly one of 4 points:

  • First of all, we will figure out what to do if the laptop Wi-Fi does not work due to the complete absence of any wireless network settings when there is no “Wireless Network Connection” or “Wireless Network” connection in the network connections (Windows 10). Also when the Wi-Fi adapter is missing in the device manager.
  • Let's find out why next The laptop does not see the Wi-Fi network. There may be a problem when the connection icon is crossed out with a red cross, the message “No connections available”. Let's look at the different ways you can enable your wireless network.
  • There are often times when The laptop sees the network, but does not connect to Wi-Fi. An error appears when connecting. Also, here I will include the problem when neighboring networks are displayed, but the laptop does not see the home Wi-Fi network.
  • Well, let’s not ignore the problem when Wi-Fi is connected, but the Internet does not work, but the sites do not open. Typically, a wireless network icon with a yellow exclamation mark and a status of “no Internet access” or “restricted”. True, there are times when there are no errors and everything seems to be fine, but there is still no access to the Internet.

Having described the solution to all these problems, I hope to answer the question in as much detail as possible: “why Wi-Fi doesn’t work on a laptop.” We will consider almost all cases and problems that you may encounter while connecting to wireless networks. To solve various problems and errors that will be discussed in this article, I have already written separate, more detailed instructions. I will provide links to them as I write the article.

Before you go through any settings, I advise you to look at the instructions for connecting to wireless networks: We have one, and a separate one. Especially if you are doing this for the first time. Perhaps they just didn’t understand all the nuances.

If you can’t connect, we’ll figure it out.

Checking the presence of a Wi-Fi adapter and driver

The first thing I advise you to do is check the operation of the Wi-Fi adapter. Make sure it works and the driver is installed. At this stage there may be two problems:

  • The adapter itself is simply broken (hardware failure). This happens very rarely.
  • And a very popular problem - Wi-Fi adapter driver not installed. Or the installed driver is not working correctly. This happens very often on new laptops, or immediately after installation or reinstallation of Windows. If Windows 10 almost always automatically installs the driver on the wireless adapter (though not always working), then in previous versions of Windows this must be done manually. In one of the articles I already wrote,

To check this, just go to the device manager. It can be found through search. Or press the keyboard shortcut Win+R, enter the command (can be copied) devmgmt.msc, and click Ok.

Immediately open the “Network Adapters” tab. There should be an adapter with "Wireless" or "Wi-Fi" in its name. This is the adapter through which the laptop connects to Wi-Fi. If you have it, then pay attention to the icon next to the name. It should be the same as mine in the screenshot below.

If there is no wireless adapter:

  • If you only have one adapter there, a network card (LAN), and no wireless adapter, then most likely this means that you need to install a driver.
You need to go to the website of your laptop manufacturer and find your model there (most often through search), go to the driver download section and download the driver for the Wireless (WLAN) adapter. Then, run its installation. In this case, the article will be useful to you. And separate.

If you have a wireless adapter, but Wi-Fi does not work:

  • Right-click on it and select "Properties". Pay attention to what will be written in the "Device Status" window. There should be an inscription "The device is working normally."
  • Again, right-click on the adapter and see if there is an "Enable" option there. If there is one, select it. After this everything should work.
  • Try following the steps I wrote about in the article about. You can also try.
  • Try reinstalling the driver (I provided links to instructions above).
  • See other solutions from this article, which I will write about below.

It all starts with the adapter in the device manager. If it is not there, then there will be no Wireless Network adapter in the network connections. Also, in Windows 10 and Windows 8 there will be no buttons or sections for Wi-Fi settings.

Turn on Wi-Fi on a laptop

In most cases, all solutions to this problem come down to simply turning on the Wi-Fi module. Because it can simply be disabled. There are several ways to enable a wireless connection. By activating the wireless module with a key combination, or a separate switch on the laptop case, or check and enable Wi-Fi in the Windows settings. Now we will look at all this in detail.

If the wireless network on your laptop is disabled, then most likely the connection icon will look like this (depending on how and where the module is disabled):

In Windows 7 the icon will look a little different, but the meaning is the same.

And first of all, I would probably advise you to try turning on Wi-Fi programmatically. In the operating system settings.

How to do this in Windows 7

In Windows 7, as well as in the “eight” and “ten”, this can be done in network connections. Go to "Network and Sharing Center". From there we go to “Change adapter settings”. Do not pay attention that the screenshots were taken in Windows 10. In all cases, the steps will be the same.

In the new window, you need to right-click on the “Wireless Network Connection” or “Wireless Network” adapter and select “Enable”.

After that, look at the connection icon (on the notification panel). If a yellow asterisk appears next to it, this means that the laptop sees available networks and can connect to them.

If you don't see a wireless adapter in the "Network Connections" window, then most likely the necessary driver is not installed. It needs to be installed. You can check this in Device Manager. I wrote about this above.

If Wi-Fi does not work on a laptop with Windows 10

A few specific tips for Windows 10: If the Wireless LAN adapter is turned on (see screenshot above), and the laptop still doesn’t see any available networks, then perhaps Wi-Fi is turned off with a button, or in the parameters. Let's check. Just click on the icon in the notification panel and the "Wi-Fi" button (if it's there).

Or in the parameters. In the "Network and Internet" section.

Well, if you have there are no these buttons and tabs in the settings, then see the first section of this article, or separate instructions:.

On Windows 8

First of all, check whether the adapter is enabled in the "Network Connections" window (shown above).

Open Settings. In the "Change computer settings" section, you need to select the "Wireless" tab. Then turn on the wireless network.

We look at the icon with the connection status. The laptop may have already seen available networks.

Turn on the wireless network using the buttons on the laptop

If the methods described above failed to enable the wireless network, then you may be able to do it using hardware. Everything is very simple here. On almost every laptop, to enable and disable the Wi-Fi module, there is a key combination on the keyboard, or a separate switch on the case (rarely, but it happens).

Let's take an example right away. On my ASUS laptop, to turn on Wi-Fi you need to press the key combination Fn+F2. Look like this:

This will always be the Fn key + a key from the F1 - F12 row. Here are the combinations for other laptops:

Dell: Fn + F2, Gigabyte: Fn + F2, HP: Fn + F12, Fujitsu: Fn + F5, Acer: Fn+F3

In some cases, this may be a special switch on the laptop case, which looks something like this:

Important point: function keys may not work properly (or not work at all) due to the fact that the corresponding driver is not installed, which is responsible for the operation of these keys.

Here's an example: in Windows 7 I have all the drivers installed from the official ASUS website, and the Fn + F2 key combination actually controls wireless networks. And in Windows 10, I did not install drivers. And when you press Fn + F2, airplane mode is turned on and off.

It is not even the driver, but the utility that is responsible for the operation of the frequency function keys. You can download the utilities in the same section as the drivers. Download strictly for your laptop model and Windows installed. For ASUS laptops, the utility is called "ATKACPI driver and hotkey-related utilities".

I hope that Wi-Fi on your laptop still works and you managed to connect to the required network. And now we will look at the problems that you may encounter during the connection process.

Solving Wi-Fi connection problems

There are several most popular mistakes, which I will discuss below. We will not consider solutions to each problem, since I have already written about them in separate articles. I'll just give you the links.

If the laptop does not see the home Wi-Fi network

Provided that it sees neighboring networks, and other devices see your home Wi-Fi network. In this case, I advise you to first restart your laptop and Wi-Fi router. Then, you can try in your router settings. Set the static channel, but not higher than 10. You can also change the name of your wireless network in the router settings.

If you have any other problem during the connection process, write about it in the comments. I'll try to suggest something.

If everything is connected, but the Internet does not work

Another trouble that you may encounter after the laptop has successfully connected to the wireless network. Most likely, there will be a yellow exclamation mark next to the connection icon.

Well, and accordingly the connection status is “Limited” or “Without access to the Internet”. There can be a lot of reasons, as well as solutions. I have prepared two separate articles on this issue. The first is for Windows 7, the second is for Windows 10:

  • And a separate article about the problem

In addition, there may be a case when there is no exclamation mark next to the icon, but the sites still do not open in the browser. DNS error. I also wrote about the solution to this problem in the article. At the same time, the Internet may work in some programs. For example, in Skype.

Try running troubleshooting.

Most often, the following error messages appear in diagnostic results:

These errors are relevant for all versions of Windows.

Afterword

The situation itself when Wi-Fi does not work on a laptop is very ambiguous. It is very difficult to collect all the information on such a popular issue in one article. And when the article is very large, it is difficult to understand it. I tried to sort everything out and consider all the most popular cases. I hope you found a solution to your problem.

If nothing works, you can describe your case in the comments. I will try to help with advice. Well, share your solutions and useful information! Best wishes!

Wi-Fi Internet “tightly surrounds” our daily life: it is present in many offices, shops, various cafes and, of course, what would it be like at home without Wi-Fi. This is facilitated by a huge selection of routers and their low price. Anyone can easily buy a router and enjoy Wi-Fi Internet anywhere in their apartment.

The more routers, the more problems associated with them. After some time of flawless operation of the device, suddenly the Internet disappears, the question immediately arises - why the router does not work. So I would like to talk about problems that appear unexpectedly.

All problems in the operation of the router can be divided into two categories: software problems (the firmware has crashed, problems in the operation of your OS, etc.) and hardware problems (failures of the router hardware itself). Let's look at the most common problems that can happen with a router.

Lack of response to power supply

You connect your router to the power grid, and in response there is silence: not a single indicator lights up, nothing blinks. Everything is very bad, apparently your router has completely failed.

What to do?

First, look at the power off button; sometimes when it is pressed involuntarily, it turns off.

Power off button

If it is on, check the power supply. Basically, the power supply “burns out” much more often than the router itself. The functionality of the power supply can be checked with a special device (for example, a “tester”), or if you don’t understand this, then by connecting a known-good unit (you can borrow it from a friend or neighbors).

If your router still doesn’t come to life, then look at the warranty card to see if it’s still under warranty. And if not, then it’s better to throw such a router in the trash and buy a new one, because... It’s not a fact that after repair it will work normally and for a long time, and the new one will have a new warranty.

Why is this happening?

There are various reasons: manufacturing defects, problems with network voltage, thunderstorms, excessive humidity in the room, etc. If you want, you can connect your router through a separate voltage stabilizer. You can simply turn it off when leaving home or when a thunderstorm approaches.

No Wi-Fi distribution

If suddenly your router “refuses” to distribute Wi-Fi Internet: the Internet status is without access to it, devices do not connect to the router, there is a connection, but there is no Internet, etc., then you should not rush to write off your router as scrap.

First, you should find out whether the problem is in the operation of the router itself or whether there may be problems in the connected device. So try connecting some other device. If it works, then the problem is not in the router; if not, then we’ll look into it further.

The most important thing in this matter is the lack of haste. Do not immediately go into the router settings with the desire to change something there. Use the tips below.

  • Try rebooting your router and computer.
  • Contact your provider, there may be problems on their part.
  • Ask your provider if the Internet is paid for and whether access to it is enabled.
  • Inspect your cables and connections. It happens that the Internet plug simply comes out of its interface. If possible, inspect the cable outside the apartment in case it is damaged.

Internet plug

  • Inspect the body of the router, maybe there are some buttons there that were suddenly pressed “on their own”. For example: a button to turn off the Wi-Fi network. If it is pressed, your Wi-Fi network will not be available.

Wi-Fi off button

  • Check your router settings and make sure they haven't gone wrong. If this happens, the Internet will not work. Pay attention to the WAN menu, where the settings of your provider are written; if errors appear, correct them.
  • Try changing the Wi-Fi channel. It happens sometimes. that everyone around (neighbors above, below and on the sides) has configured their router to the same channel as yours and then the router may fail.

When opening several sites at once, the Internet turns off

There are problems with the router of this nature: you open several sites in the browser at once, they load, but the Internet turns off - the computer displays a status without access to the Internet. If you open one site at a time, then there are no problems.

At this time, the operation of other devices connected to the router is stable. Reboot the router, everything is fine again, the Internet is available, until you again load several sites at the same time.

Solution

The problem turned out to be quite trivial. When you tried to open several sites at the same time, your router recognized requests from the connected device as a DoS attack and blocked it. When you reboot, the blocking automatically disappears until the next attempt to open several sites at the same time.

Almost every router has protection against DoS attacks, and it does not always happen that it works correctly. Therefore, you can simply turn it off.

Disabling DoS protection

For example, take a TP-Link router:

  1. Let's go to settings.
  2. Go to the Security – Advanced Security menu.
  3. In the DoS Protection item, set the value to Disable.
  4. Save the settings.

Menu for disabling DoS protection

The most important thing is to remember to reboot the device when performing any actions with the router. Otherwise, your actions simply will not take effect.

Disassembly and repair of the D-Link DIR-615 router

WiFi broadband technology has become an integral part of people's lives. It allows you to solve routine tasks extremely quickly. That is why the question of why WiFi does not work on a laptop is very important. I would like to immediately note that there are many reasons why WiFi may not work on a laptop, and this article is not a panacea. However, in it you will find solutions to the most common problems, without calling a specialist.

Reasons why WiFi does not work

Before blaming the laptop, you should check the access point itself, since the router may be the cause of the wireless network not working.

First of all, you need to make sure that it is turned on and other devices, for example, a smartphone, tablet or other laptop, can connect to it. If everything is fine with the router, then move on.

Why WiFi doesn't work: Video

Checking and installing the network adapter driver

If the router is turned on, the network works, but WiFi still does not turn on on the laptop, you need to check the driver for the wireless adapter and network card. You can do this in Device Manager. You can open it as follows. Find the “My Computer” shortcut (on the desktop, in the Start menu, or in the file manager) and right-click on it. Select “Properties”. Next, in the left pane you need to find “Device Manager” and open it.

The menu that appears displays all the devices on the laptop, even if they do not have a driver installed. In this case, they will be indicated with an exclamation mark. We are interested in the “Network adapters” section. Open it by double-clicking and see if there is a device with an exclamation mark.

If there is one, then right-click on it and select “Delete”. We confirm the action. After that, if you have a disk with drivers, then insert it into the drive and install the necessary software. If there is no such disk, then you will need to go to the official website of the laptop manufacturer and download the necessary software for your model.

It is quite possible that the driver for the network equipment was previously installed, but at some point stopped working. Why might this happen? The most common cause is a virus attack. This may also be the result of turning off the device incorrectly, for example, by long pressing the power button. Sometimes such consequences occur after freezes or hardware errors.

After installing the drivers, we again check the ability to connect to the wireless network. It is worth noting that the above steps are performed regardless of the operating system version.

Reinstalling the WiFi driver in Windows: Video

Keyboard drivers

The network module drivers are ok, but the Wi-Fi adapter does not turn on, what should I do? Here you need to understand what is done using the keyboard. As a rule, this is a combination of the Fn keys + the WiFi enable button (marked with the corresponding icon). If the adapter does not turn on when you press these keys, you should install the driver on the keyboard.

There are cases when the driver is installed, most of the additional keys work, but you still cannot turn on the wireless adapter. In this case, it is recommended to install a special utility to manage the WiFi module. You can download it from the same source as the software.

Checking the wireless connection status

If everything is fine with the drivers, but WiFi still does not work, then you should check the status of the network connection. To do this, you need to open the network and sharing control panel by right-clicking on the network icon in the tray and go to “Change adapter settings.” Here we find the wireless network shortcut (the name may differ depending on the version of Windows).

If the label is gray, it indicates that the connection is disconnected. You can enable it by right-clicking on the connection and selecting “Enable”. After this, the computer will automatically start searching for available networks.

You can also click "Diagnostics". This way, the system will automatically begin troubleshooting and troubleshooting problems related to the network adapters. It is worth noting that this procedure can be performed several times in a row, as it can help the second or even third time.

What to do if Wi-Fi on your laptop doesn’t work: Video

A few more reasons why the WiFi adapter may not work

Above were the main reasons why a wireless adapter may malfunction. Now you know what to do first if WiFi on your laptop does not work. However, it is worth noting that all of these are software reasons, which can be eliminated by simply installing new drivers, utilities, and also performing certain operations in Windows.

Sometimes there are hardware errors. What does this mean. Hardware failures occur directly with the board itself. In other words, this is physical damage to the network card. To fix such problems, you will have to disassemble the laptop. It is worth noting that some models are extremely easy to disassemble, however, there are also those that are quite difficult to disassemble on your own. It is necessary to warn that without certain knowledge in this area, it is not recommended to disassemble the laptop.

But still, in this article we will look at what physical damage can be. For example, if the device was under repair or you disassembled it yourself to clean the cooling system, it is quite possible that the antenna wires on the WiFi adapter are not connected. You can simply forget about them. In this case, the adapter works, but does not receive a signal, even if it is close to the source. The problem is resolved by simply connecting an antenna.

Also, the answer to the question why the Wi-Fi module does not work is simply overheating of the card and its failure. This can happen if the laptop is used in bed or placed on soft surfaces. The fact is that there are special holes on the bottom cover of the device through which cold air enters the system, cooling the boards.

It is not difficult to guess what will happen if these holes are blocked for a long time. Another reason for overheating can be banal dust, which is drawn in by the fan and settles inside the laptop on absolutely all modules and elements of the laptop. It is for this reason that it is recommended to clean the device from dust at least once a year. Such cleaning will cost several times less than repairs.

If the WiFi adapter burns out, it cannot be repaired. All that remains is to replace it. You can check this in the device manager, since when it burns out, one or another element stops being displayed. In addition, if the module is displayed, but does not work, here you will be able to see an error indicating that it does not function. This, in turn, will allow you to find a solution to the problem.

Above we discussed the most common reasons why the Wi-Fi adapter does not work. They can be solved independently, without the help of specialists. However, if, after trying all these methods, you still cannot eliminate the cause of the problem, then it is recommended to contact a service center.

Help me please. It's been three days now and nothing has worked!
I have an HP Pavilion dv6-7053er laptop.
In windows 7 everything worked until I bought bluetooth headphones. And for some reason I couldn’t find how to turn on bluetooth. I reinstalled Windows on Windows 10. But on the official website there was only firewood for 7K and 8K. Having downloaded everything that was there (after all, I download stuff for MY laptop) – I installed everything. I don’t understand bluetooth drivers, nor do I understand wi-fi. As a result, my wi-fi power button stopped lighting up and always lights up red. And when I pressed this button, my airplane mode turned on and off. I'm crazy. But that is not all. I accidentally (for some reason) tried to change the firmware on the touchpad after that... For some reason the firmware did not work. and now my touchpad doesn't work anywhere at all.
I decided to demolish 10k and install 8.1 (I think 8.1 and 8 are no different in drivers). Put. Again the same problem is in front of me. Previously, after installing Windows. I had Wi-Fi, but not here. I installed what seems to me to be the correct drivers, I did not touch complex names. It's good that there is Internet via wire. Now I will ask before going anywhere. I didn’t think that after 20 years of experience, I would stumble upon this wall of misunderstanding with technology, and even from the manufacturer HP (!!!).
In general, at the moment I have 3 problems (not counting crooked hands):
    1) The touch pad does not work. I installed the drivers from the website for my laptop. They stood up straight. I downloaded the firmware from there. But the firmware says that it does not see the driver on the touchpad and requires version 15 and higher (I installed 16).
    2) The Wi-Fi button does nothing at all. I didn’t find any wood for the button, I think wood for the touchpad will solve this problem
    3) The wireless network does not turn on at all. More precisely like that. In the adapter settings, the wireless network is colored, as the author of the video said, you can disable it, connect/disconnect. But when I click on the “network” button (about an hour), the wireless network slider is not active, it cannot be moved (you can move the wired network and turn on airplane mode).
In the task manager in network adapters – qualcomm Atheros AR9285 802.1b|g|n WiFi adapter and Realtek PCIe GBE family controller. I didn't install Realtek at all. And Atheros was right after installing Windows. But I installed the driver from the website on top of it, and then after watching the video, I deleted it and installed it again. There is no result.
In general, from the website I installed only these drivers: Drive for the chipset and Intel MEI, driver for the video card, Atheros driver. I didn't install anything else. Because I’m afraid it’s not clear how to remove the wood later. It’s clear when there are exclamation marks, but when everything is shown normally in the task manager, but something doesn’t work, I don’t know what to install or reinstall...

The touchpad was reanimated by pressing all the buttons in a row while holding the finger on the buttons. Despite the fact that the touchpad on the sensor has a power button, when double-clicked, it turns on and off... Now the touchpad is turned on and does not turn off, double tapping on the sensor does not turn off the touchpad and the light does not light up. The touchpad didn't get any traffic, but I think I'll find a solution myself. Moreover, in updates to Windows, the device for the touchpad is already downloaded.
There is only one problem left - bluetooth. This problem is why I started changing Windows. He's stupidly gone. Everything is fine in Device Manager. But there is no bluetooth anywhere.

Hello. Open the search and enter “Bluetooth”. If the system has an adapter and drivers installed, it will find several options. One of them will be “Bluetooth Settings”. Open the settings and configure the adapter. But, I would recommend that you return to the seven. The adapter itself is always enabled by default. It turns on with WiFi. And he switches off with her. The BT icon appears in the notification area (after installing the drivers) and always hangs there. Of course, you wrote a lot, but I couldn’t find any information on the matter. Is there BT in the equipment manager? Is it marked somehow? That is, perhaps there are some errors or failures in its work. Is there a Bluetooth connection in the Network and Sharing Center under “Change adapter settings”? Where did you get the drivers from? Drivers must match your operating system. In your case, it will not work in the top ten. In theory and in practice, many drivers from the eight are suitable for the ten, but still not all. Therefore, it is best to put a seven or eight. And you can configure everything in it. In general, my advice to you is to reinstall the operating system. Place a Seven or Eight. Install new drivers, downloaded from the official website. After this, Bluetooth should appear in the notification area. Right-click on it and then configure it, add new equipment, and so on.

Hi all! In general, I urgently need help.....I reinstalled Windows 7, then installed all the firewood, but when installing the firewood on wifi
(Qualcomm Atheros Wireless drivers) starts swearing that the built-in wireless adapter is disabled or removed. what to do? Help!

    Bezprovodoff team 03/19/2016 10:40

Hello. I would recommend that you reinstall the OS again. Most likely, the system was crooked and did not detect the WiFi adapter. You can also disassemble the laptop and disconnect the WiFi adapter, blow out and clean the contacts and connect it again. Sometimes contact is lost due to dirt (contacts may oxidize). Or you are installing the wrong driver (remember that sometimes during the download process there may be disconnections and the driver is not downloaded completely, which is why a variety of problems arise during the installation process). Therefore, before interrupting Windows and disassembling the laptop, try downloading the driver and monitor the boot process so that there are no disconnections or failures.

    Bezprovodoff team 07/13/2016 21:24

Hello. The network adapter simply turns off automatically the moment WiFi starts working. If you connect a network cable to your PC, does the network work via cable? Should the indicator blink and the network start working? The problem is that the system automatically sees which network adapter is working, and the second one simply fades into the background. But, if you start using a network adapter (instead of WiFi), it should work normally when you connect the cable. Again, drivers must be installed for the network adapter, and drivers can only be installed when the network cable is connected. In general, you need to look and figure it out. It is possible that you will have to reinstall the OS (but this is a last resort).

    Artem 02.10.2016 21:40

Hi all. The problem is this, at first the wifi started to turn off not for long and rarely (2 times a day), then it turned off every 5-7 minutes and had to be turned on through the device manager, later every 2 minutes, then it didn’t always help to turn it on through the manager, first from wi fi networks disappears only my network after 10 seconds all the others, and the icon changes as if there is no firewood, I went to the official HP office, downloaded the firewood, installed it, no use, when I connect to the Internet, 1 more network adapter appears in the Device Manager and a yellow sign, supposedly update me , I click on update - it says everything is OK, nothing needs to be updated...??? I think the adapter needs to be changed, tell me

    Bezprovodoff team 10/19/2016 22:15

Hello. Updating drivers through Device Manager does not resolve the driver issue. The system always says that no update is required. Try this. First, download drivers for WiFi and other network adapters from the official HP website to your laptop. Let the installation files be on the hard drive; they will be needed later. Now, open the device manager, find the “Network adapters” folder. Remove from it everything you find there (I repeat, you need to download the drivers first). After this, open a command prompt with administrator rights and reset the network parameters and network cache. Here it is described in detail and shown how this is done - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0vOyaSeY3Y. After this, restart your computer. Now install the previously downloaded drivers for network cards, including WiFi, and reboot the PC again. After this everything should work fine. If not, then change the Wi-Fi adapter.

Guys, even though the search engine shows up your site, there is no help here, no help in v310-15isk, I’ve already tried all the wi-fi, all the firewood costs, but the connection is found in about 40 minutes at best, and even if you want, I’ve already looked through all the settings

Before you begin to find out why Wi-Fi or the Internet does not work, you should know (especially for those who have just purchased a Wi-Fi router) that it is not enough to just connect the provider’s cable to the router, you also need to configure it (set up the Internet and Wi-Fi network ). All of the methods described below are valid if Wi-Fi and the Internet were working for you before, and then suddenly stopped or you cannot connect a new device to Wi-Fi. For convenience, I divided the article into two parts, the first is devoted to the inability to connect to a wireless network, the second part will answer your questions if you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, but there is no Internet.

Cannot connect to Wi-Fi network.

Reboot the router.

The first thing you need to do if you have problems connecting to a Wi-Fi network is to restart the router. To do this, simply disconnect the power supply from the router and connect it again after a few seconds. After 1-2 minutes. The device will boot, then try connecting to the wireless network again. To avoid such situations in the future, I recommend updating the router firmware (perhaps the manufacturer knows about the problem and fixed it in the new firmware).

Enabling the Wi-Fi module on the laptop.

Check if Wi-Fi is turned on on your laptop, I won’t bother, I described all the ways to turn on Wi-Fi in the article How to turn on Wi-Fi on a laptop .

Change the wireless network mode.

If you are trying to connect a device (laptop, smartphone) that is more than 5-7 years old, you must take into account that it may not support the modern Wi-Fi mode - n. Therefore, you need to switch the router to an operating mode that is supported by the device or enable mixed mode b/g/n. More details about Wi-Fi operating modes are described. In order to switch the wireless network mode, you need to go to the router’s web interface, go to the Wi-Fi settings and select the appropriate mode.

Removing a duplicate network SSID.

One of the possible problems of not being able to connect to Wi-Fi is a duplicate Wi-Fi network name (SSID). Suppose you come to your friends, their Wi-Fi network is called “Home”, you successfully connected to it. Time passed and you came across the same network name with other friends or at home. The laptop (this also applies to tablets and smartphones) tries to connect to the network using the previously saved password, but it fails because a new password is used for this name. To solve this problem, you need to remove the matching network from the list of saved Wi-Fi networks.

To do this, right-click on network icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select "Network and Sharing Center."

After this, you will see a list of saved wireless networks. If you see that the network you are trying to connect to is in this list, you need to remove it from this list. Select the network and click the "Delete" button. After this, you will need to enter a password to connect to the wireless network.

No Internet via Wi-Fi.

Internet payment check.

The simplest thing that can happen when the Internet is not working is that it’s time to pay for it or the provider is working on it. To clarify the situation, call your provider and find out if you have a debt for the Internet and whether work is being done on the line.

Static IP address.

One of the problems with the Internet not working may be that the registered static address does not have the network settings that are necessary. In this case, I recommend using automatic network settings retrieval. To do this, you need to go to the Network and Sharing Center. One way to do this is to right-click on network icon in the lower right corner of the screen and select "Network and Sharing Center".

Another way is to use hotkeys + , enter the command ncpa.cpl and press Enter.

It doesn’t matter which method you used, the result will be the same - the Network Connections window will appear on the monitor. Next, you need to double-click on the wireless connection. In the status window that opens, select “Properties” in the properties window “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”

Problem with the router.

The Internet may not work due to a router failure; the simplest thing you can do is reboot it. There are situations when the router resets the Internet settings, in this case you need to connect to it via the web interface and re-enter the Internet settings, in order to experience fewer problems with the router in the future, I recommend updating its firmware.

Conclusion

In this article, I described all the ways I know to solve problems with Wi-Fi and the Internet. If these methods do not help you, you can describe the problem in detail in the comments and I, together with the readers of this site, will try to help you.

Let's look at a problematic situation when the phone connects to Wi-Fi, but there is no Internet. It looks like this: next to the name of the wireless network it says “Connected”, but when you try to open any site in the browser an error is displayed Web-page is unavailable or 404 Not found. Chrome still writes in such cases. The same applies to other software - all kinds of programs that use the Internet connection for their work or at least check for updates when starting will also display an error connecting to their web server.

In this article, we will talk in detail about how to solve the Internet problem on your computer, phone or tablet. Read carefully, follow all the steps and you will definitely find the reason why you do not have an Internet connection when your Wi-Fi connection is working.

Collecting information about the problem

Before making any changes to the Wi-Fi settings of your router, computer, or phone, check the following points. This may make it easier to find the reason for the lack of Internet or narrow down your search:

  • Is the Internet paid for and are the funds in the account running out?
  • Is there access to the Internet via wire from a desktop computer?
  • Is it possible to access the Internet via Wi-Fi from other devices that use the same Wi-Fi router?
  • does the Internet connection problem persist when connected to another Wi-Fi network?

Depending on the answers to these questions, it may already become more or less clear to you what the problem most likely is. Eg:

  • if there is no Internet at all - neither via wires nor via Wi-Fi, then the reason may be either access blocking on the provider’s side or a malfunction of the router. Next, we check with the provider whether everything is in order with the line and the account, and then we check the functionality of the router.
  • if the Internet is available on the PC via wire, but not on any device via Wi-Fi, then the problem most likely lies in the wireless network settings of the router. The same conclusion can be drawn if the Internet appears and works without problems as soon as you connect to another Wi-Fi network from the same device
  • and if it turns out that all devices are in order, and only one does not have an Internet connection, then the problem is obviously in this “client”.

Wi-Fi is connected, but the Internet does not work. What to do?

So, if your Wi-Fi is truly “connected”, but there is no Internet (websites do not load, Skype and Viber do not connect, a yellow network icon is displayed on the laptop with the notification “No Internet access”), follow these steps to resolve the problem. The steps are listed taking into account the probability factor.

1. Reboot your router

Sometimes the inexplicable happens router failure . At the same time, the local network and Wi-Fi work normally, but there is no access to the Internet. This can happen when the router operates for a very long time without reboots and when there are changes in the provider’s network. Just in case: it is written how to reboot D-Link remotely.

2. Reboot the device where there is no Internet connection (phone, laptop)

Sometimes on a smartphone (tablet, laptop) a certain failure (glitch), which can cause a similar problem. Visually, everything seems to be fine, but there is no Internet for no apparent reason. To eliminate such a failure, reboot the device.

3. Reconnect to the Wi-Fi network

This step is very important, despite its simplicity and obviousness at first glance. You need to forget the Wi-Fi network, and then connect to it again by entering the password (security key). This may resolve the issue and restore your internet connection, for example if network settings have been changed user or virus.

4. Set the correct date on your Android device

Invalid date may be causing an internet problem. In this case, the sites will open, but Antiviruses, Google Play Market, etc. may not work. .

5. Disable the proxy server

If a proxy server is enabled on your computer or Android device, you may also experience a situation where Wi-Fi is connected but there is no Internet. This problem usually occurs on Android.

6. Check the Internet connection settings on the router

Go to the WAN or Internet settings on the router. (). Check that you have specified correct connection parameters , such as:

  • type of connection with the provider (look in the contract or on the provider’s website);
  • login and password, if required (see the contract);
  • is the MAC address specified correctly (check in the contract. If you reset the router, you may have to go to the Internet provider’s office with your passport and contract and ask to register a new MAC address for the router’s WAN port).

If your provider uses a PPTP connection, and the settings on your router have gone wrong and now IPoE (dynamic IP) is selected instead of PPTP, then naturally the router will not be able to connect to the Internet. In this case, the sites will not open on any device.

7. Change the wireless channel

Wireless equipment that is located nearby and operates on adjacent channels can create interference to your router. Try changing the Wi-Fi channel.

It would be even better to first check which channels are freer. This can be done using the Android app or InSSIDer for Windows.

8. Install WPA2-PSK + AES encryption for your Wi-Fi network

The WPA2-PSK encryption algorithm is the most secure. And AES encryption provides high speed and security. Most devices, even not new ones, work successfully in WPA2-PSK mode with the AES algorithm.

Wi-Fi is connected, but the Internet does not work: other causes of the problem

Weak signal

If the distance from the client device to the router is too great, the following problem may also occur: the device has received an IP address, but there is no Internet. Therefore, you first need to check whether the Internet appears when approaching the router (if it is possible to get close). Then - if the problem is the distance - somehow try to reduce it. If the router is yours, place it in the middle of the house.

Some organizations provide free Wi-Fi, but in order to be allowed on the Internet, you need to launch a browser, enter a password, or go through some other authorization procedure. For example, indicate a phone number and enter a code from an SMS. It is better not to contact such networks and not to enter any information about yourself in order to avoid problems. It is much easier to find another access point without such nuances.

If you've done everything and you still can't connect to the Internet through an active Wi-Fi connection, there's another option: set up a static IP address. This method is not a solution in the full sense of the word, but in some cases it helps to bypass the problem and gain access to the Internet. To do this, on your smartphone, call up the properties of the connection to the Wi-Fi network, check the box Show advanced options and select Static IP:

I hope this guide helped you identify and fix your Internet connection problem and now all your devices are connected to the network, both wired and wireless. Please write questions and additions to the article in the comments.
