iPad Air specifications. Technical characteristics of the Apple iPad Air reviews, descriptions, applications The screen of a mobile device is characterized by its technology, resolution, pixel density, diagonal length, color depth, etc.

In 2013, the world was presented with a new creation from Apple - iPad Air. The tablet has won the recognition of millions of users around the world. And a year later, at the autumn presentation, the company presented the thinnest device in the world - iPad Air 2, which did not revolutionize the world of mobile technology, but became no less popular than its predecessor. Despite the release of the new product, many users were in no hurry to change first-generation devices, because they did not see much point in it. Of course, the iPad Air 2 received several important changes that made it the flagship among tablet computers.

Comparing the iPad Air and iPad Air 2 will allow you to determine exactly what the advantages of the newer gadget are. However, there is a category of users who, in any case, change their smartphones and tablets from Apple after the release of a new model. This is, rather, dictated not by the need to use advanced device functions, but by the desire to be one step ahead of the rest. If you value value for money, functionality, and also use a rational approach when buying gadgets, comparing two popular models will be useful and interesting for you.

Comparison and review of two tablet models: iPad Air and iPad Air 2

The differences between the two devices are in the appearance and size of the case. If the length and width of the gadgets remained the same - 240 mm and 169.5 mm, then iPad Air 2 became the thinnest device in the world at the time of its release. Its thickness was 6.1 mm, which is 1.4 mm less than that of its predecessor. Many experts have come to the conclusion that minor differences in the sizes of the iPad Air and iPad Air 2 are practically not felt when using gadgets, which cannot be said about their weight.

The new device has become much lighter - its weight was only 437 grams, which is 36% less than the first generation device. Thanks to its reduced weight, iPad Air 2 is very comfortable to work with. After prolonged use, your arms and back will not get so tired. This was a significant transformation for users who prefer to hold the tablet in their hands rather than place it on a horizontal surface.

It should be noted that the first generation iPad Air only comes in two colors - space gray and silver. The second-generation gadget is presented in three colors - in addition to the usual silver and space gray, a golden one has been added. This gives users more options to choose from. Some people prefer to buy smartphones and tablets in the same color scheme. Now you can purchase a similar device to go with your gold iPhone.

The first generation tablet is supplied to the market with a version of the operating system iOS 7, and the second - iOS 8. Today, the characteristics of the device allow you to upgrade to iOS 9.2, which improves system performance and fixes some bugs.

Display Specifications

The screen resolution of the compared devices remains the same - 2048 by 1536 pixels. Has not changed - it is 9.7 inches, which ensures comfortable work. We believe that these sizes are optimal for a tablet computer designed for a wide audience of consumers.

At the same time, the second-generation gadget is equipped with a completely different level. During its development, the technology of full screen lamination was used. The developers managed to remove the air gap between the glass and the matrix. This made the device thinner and led to the fact that the image in the iPad Air 2 visually seemed to lie on the surface of the glass. The device released earlier does not have similar visual effects. Another advantage of the second generation iPad Air was its reliable anti-reflective coating, which ensured comfortable work with the gadget in bright light conditions.

Some users considered it a minus that in the new tablet the developers removed the button for blocking automatic image rotations when changing the position of the gadget in space. It was located on the sidebar and was often used by gamers who like to read while lying down and often change their position. Auto-lock allowed you to capture the image. On the iPad Air 2, a similar option must be activated using user settings.

Camera

It is immediately worth noting that in the second generation iPad Air, significant changes affected the camera. The first thing that catches your eye is that its resolution has increased to 8 megapixels. In the model released in 2013, it is 5 megapixels. At the same time, the iSight camera is equipped with a high-tech sensor and advanced optics, which improves the quality of pictures and videos. For many, the presence of new functions was a pleasant surprise. One of them is Slow Motion. It is designed to slow down video recording. Thanks to this function, you can shoot interesting videos, which can be conveniently emphasized using slow motion. In addition, the camera has other interesting and useful features.

When comparing photos taken on the two tablets, you will notice that the iPad Air 2 produces better photo quality. Images have improved color reproduction. At the same time, all colors look more natural. The noise level in the pictures has been reduced and the detail of objects has been improved. However, such improvements are only important for discerning users. The camera performance of the first generation device is quite satisfactory for a device of this level.

The changes did not affect - its resolution is still 1.2 megapixels. However, it is not equipped with autofocus.

Technical specifications

The 2013 tablet is equipped with an A7+M7 processor. Gadgets introduced in 2014 run on the A8X+M8 processor. iPad Air 2 has three cores, while its predecessor had two. The clock speed of the gadgets is 1.5 GHz and 1.4 GHz, respectively. According to the developers, such changes made it possible to increase the performance of the central processor by 40%. Power has been improved by 2.5 times.

The difference between iPad Air and iPad Air 2 lies in the amount of memory. If the first generation tablet has 1 GB of RAM, then the second generation device is equipped with 2 GB of RAM. At the same time, the 2013 model has built-in memory capacity of 16 and 32 GB. Various modifications of the later gadget allow you to purchase a tablet with 16, 64 or 128 GB of memory. This improvement is dictated by the development of a huge number of applications that require not only performance from a tablet computer, but also a sufficient amount of memory.

Battery life

The battery capacity of the device, released at the end of 2014, is 7184 mAh. Its predecessor has a larger battery capacity - it is 8827 mAh. The developer stated that in the mode of searching information on the World Wide Web, watching videos and listening to audio, the battery of the newer device will last for 10 hours of continuous operation. At the same time, its predecessor works for about 12-13 hours without recharging. In maximum brightness mode, while watching HD video, the time is reduced by 2 hours - these are the results shown by test tests.

We can conclude that Apple had to sacrifice battery capacity in order to fit it into the thin body of the iPad Air 2. It should be noted that no matter how long the battery life of any device, it will always not suit certain categories of users. You always want your phone or tablet to last longer. In this regard, Apple has found an excellent compromise between the weight of the gadget, its size and operating time.

Today Apple introduced a couple of new iPad tablets. Of course, the culmination of the company's efforts in this direction was the iPad Air 2, which, according to its representatives, became the world's thinnest tablet - 6.1 mm. But these are not all the characteristics that set the iPad Air 2 apart from its predecessor. The record thickness influenced some design features. Thus, the iPad Air 2 has lost the legendary mute button, and the speaker on the bottom now has one row of holes. In addition, the device has become lighter - 437 (Wi-Fi) and 444 g (LTE) versus 469 and 478 g for the iPad Air, respectively. Finally, a new color was added to the iPad Air palette - gold, long familiar to iPhone owners. By the way, this version was the demo version at today’s presentation.

Having dealt with the aesthetic side of the new product, let’s move on to its “inner world”. The iPad Air 2 display remains the same (although Apple had to combine two layers in order to achieve the desired thickness). A new tablet needs a new processor. The A8X is used here, which is significantly superior to both its predecessor A7 and the standard A8 processor installed in the iPhone 6. In fact, the Cupertino company has returned to its good tradition of distinguishing between the hardware of the iPhone and iPad. We will find out the amount of RAM from future tests, since Apple traditionally does not pay attention to this at its events. But he pays attention to the camera - the iPad now uses an 8-megapixel iSight camera module with the ability to record slow-mo video (the iPad Air did not have this feature). iPad Air 2 also received a faster Wi-Fi connection – 802.11ac, which works 2.8 times faster than iPad Air – up to 866 Mbps.

Finally, the iPad Air 2 is distinguished by its price tag. After its release, the iPad Air will receive a price list and its price will drop to 19,490 rubles (basic configuration). The new iPad Air 2 is priced at 24,490 rubles (16 GB ROM, Wi-Fi). There will be other differences, but they can be noticed while directly using the tablet.

On October 16, another Apple presentation took place, the second this fall, at which the iPad mini 3, updated iMac mini, iMac with Retina displays and iPad Air 2 were presented. This article will be devoted to the iPad Air 2 - the thinnest tablet in the world. After the end of the presentation, journalists received “access to the body” and thanks to the efforts of the Verge publication, we have the first live pictures of the new tablet.

The iPad Air 2 is indeed 18% thinner than its predecessor. Its thickness is 6.1 mm. Although, according to experts, this is practically not noticeable visually and tactilely and does not play a big role. For comparison, the mobile flagship of this fall is 0.8 mm thicker (6.9 mm). The Appleinsider portal compared the iPad Air 2 to a lead pencil.

What about weight? The tablet has become incredibly light, namely 437 grams, which is 32 grams less than the previous model. Let us remember that the first iPad weighed 680 grams – the company managed to make the tablet almost 50% lighter. This means that you can forget about the unpleasant feeling of numbness in your hand after a day of working with a gadget.

iPad Air 2 has a fully laminated display with anti-glare coating. These small improvements will allow users to use the tablet in sunny weather.

But the new processor is something that is really worth paying attention to. iPad Air 2 received Apple A8X, which means that the user can easily play the latest games made on Metal.

The tablet is equipped with 2 GB of RAM (two chips of 1 GB RAM each). The combination of three cores makes the system 68% faster than similar first-generation tablets. And 55% faster than the recently released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Don't forget about the Apple M8 coprocessor - in combination with the main processor, the iPad Air works without additional recharging for up to 10 hours inclusive.

It is also worth noting that among Android competitors only the Nexus 9 can boast of such indicators.

In comparison, the Apple iPad Air 2 outperforms Google's tablet by almost 40%. Thus, the new tablet from Apple can easily be called the fastest gadget in its class at present.

The most long-awaited innovation is the introduction of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor. The system supports up to five prints. Let us remind you that Touch ID is used not only to unlock, but also to pay for purchases in the App Store and for some online transactions.

One of the external changes that immediately catches your eye is that the screen orientation lock button on the side has disappeared. Presumably this is due to the fact that the device had to be made even thinner.

iPad Air 2 also boasts an 8 megapixel camera that can take truly stunning photos. The gadget also received support for Apple Pay. The camera is extremely well built into the body - it does not stick out and creates a single structure with the back cover. Let's add a few more pleasant bonuses: video shooting has learned to work in slow-mode, and the camera supports burst shooting.

We invite you to familiarize yourself with the summary table, which will clearly demonstrate the main advantages of the iPad Air 2.

iPad Air becomes the first model to come in a gold color scheme. Previous models were available in only two colors: silver and space gray. It is also worth noting that new tablets are available with three memory sizes: 16, 64 and 128 GB. Apparently Apple considered it rational to increase the data storage space, which is logical given the intensive development of applications in the App Store (we are talking not only about the quantity, but also about the fact that new applications not only receive amazing graphics, but also significantly gain weight) . Prices for iPad Air 2 start at 24,990 rubles for the 16 GB model without an LTE chip and go up to 40,990 rubles.

Conclusion: The new iPad Air 2 has received many improvements that have a positive impact not only on the design, but also on the performance of the device. Who is the second version of iPad Air suitable for? People who rely on new applications, who are looking forward to the release of gaming monsters under the leadership of the Metal system. People who would like to collect a collection of Apple devices dressed in gold. People who want to be sure that they have the latest cutting-edge gadgets. After direct acquaintance with Apple iPad Air We can say with full confidence that this model has become the most successful update to the Californian company’s line of 10-inch tablets in the entire history of its existence. The tablet fully deserves the eloquent “airy” prefix to its name; we have never seen such a radical reduction in the weight and volume of the body while maintaining all the functional features. Interesting? Then let's start getting acquainted.

Exploitation

For obvious reasons, the period of test operation Apple iPad Air was not too long, during which time it was possible to notice only the main nuances of real use. Therefore, after a certain time, we will definitely return to the story about this tablet in the format of operating experience.

During use, the tablet literally amazes with its weight; the Air prefix is more appropriate here than ever, because compared to its predecessor, the new product has lost as much as 180 grams or 28% of its weight. The full-size 10-inch tablet in a metal casing now weighs only 470 grams, making it easy to hold with one hand. The ergonomics are also improved by a more compact body, which has become 1.5 cm narrower and almost 2 mm thinner, which in turn has saved 24% of the internal volume. We repeat, with a more “elongated” body Apple iPad Air looks more like a typical widescreen tablet with 16:10 aspect ratio, rather than Apple's 4:3 variation. As a result, the new Air can be chosen only because of its thin, light, metal body, regardless of all other characteristics - you just need to pick it up and you simply won’t want to let go of the tablet.

The new Apple A7/M7 hardware platform has benefited the tablet; there is no need to talk about a mind-blowing increase in performance in real life, but everything (interface, applications, games) now works a little faster and smoother. We especially note the minimal heating of the tablet even after heated battles in modern 3D games - the metal back gets slightly warmer, but there is no trace of the heat that the iPad 3 produced.

Since the battery capacity is Apple iPad Air became smaller, but the charger remained the same, the time required to charge the battery from 0 to 100% decreased noticeably and is about 4 hours. The autonomy is quite consistent with what is stated; a full charge is usually more than enough for a full day of active use (browsing, video, games, reading, etc.). Well, if you use the tablet for a couple of hours before/after work, then its battery may well last almost the entire work week.

Owners of modern dual-band routers will certainly appreciate the increased data exchange speed using a dual-antenna 802.11n Wi-Fi module, capable of operating in two operating bands and providing a maximum speed of up to 300 Mbps. But for obvious reasons, it is not yet possible to obtain the maximum available speed in LTE networks in our country; at best, you will have to be content with a 3G connection. Finally, we note that the main camera Apple iPad Air produces good shots in good natural light, but in a darkened room the module without a flash noticeably loses its position.

Results

Eventually, iPad Air- This is the best tablet Apple has ever released, the only real competition that can come from the new iPad mini with Retina display. The younger brother has the same hardware platform, a screen with a higher pixel density, a more compact and lighter body, convenient for daily use on the go, and at the same time costs $100 less.

The only reason to refuse to buy this device may be a rejection of the iOS operating system, while from the point of view of design, construction and hardware platform we have almost an ideal. However, the ideal Apple iPad Air There is only a year left until the announcement of the Air 2, which (possibly) will receive a Touch ID fingerprint scanner, 2 GB of RAM and an even faster processor. But you shouldn’t hope for a redesign of the second generation Air; the current version is already too good to start improving it so quickly.
