iPad glass replacement cost. The cost of replacing glass on an iPad. Can they replace the glass on an iPad?

Which mobile devices break down most often? Those that people love to use are constantly in their hands and sometimes fall over: mobile phones, smartphones and tablets. In percentage terms, among the tablets on hand, the Apple iPad of different generations is the most popular. Just a week ago I found out that the official Apple service does not repair devices, but replaces them with new ones at an additional cost. With this material I am starting a new series on repairing Apole mobile devices and more. Therefore, when sending your iPhone or iPad for repair, know that they will replace the broken parts with non-original ones. The quality of the repair will depend not only on the technician, but also on the selected parts and their prices.

How to replace a broken screen in an Apple iPad 2 GSM 64 Gb? Using this example, I will tell you and show you how to replace the protective glass of an Apple iPad 2. I will explain how, if necessary, replace the display, repair a broken Home button and a number of other elements. Repairing an Apple iPad 2 is similar to repairing an Apple iPad New; the devices are assembled in the same case. Apple iPad Wi-Fi is easier to repair than the version with GSM and GPS module, due to the lack of additional antennas.

It is advisable to turn off any device before starting repairs, to protect yourself from errors. But this is not always possible to do, for example, the area of the screen where the shutdown slider is located has stopped responding or the Power button has broken. Considered case of iPad repair without turning off the device.

The iPad comes apart from the front. However, like the iPhone 3G and iPhone 5. First, you need to remove the protective glass of the iPad. The frame around the display is heated with a hairdryer to melt the factory glue, the temperature is about 140 degrees. Next, insert a scalpel or a stationery knife into the lower right or upper right corner and slowly peel off the protective glass. When the gap is large enough to insert the second blade, insert it and slide it up or down the long edge. Instead of a scalpel, you can use ordinary plastic picks; working with plastic instruments reduces the likelihood of damaging the device. The task is to walk along the perimeter of the frame and stop in the lower left corner, where there is a capacitive touch glass cable.

Peeling off the glass with a blade should be stopped a centimeter before the volume buttons, so as not to damage the cable. Next you need to peel off the glass towards the Home button, also stopping a centimeter away. When the corner of the protective glass is torn away from the aluminum body, it must be pulled until there is a noticeable tension. The protective glass on the iPad is durable and will not crack even with significant bending. The cables will be visible in the gaps that appear; carefully press them against the body and continue to remove the glass with a scalpel. Go to the lower left corner past the Home button.

Then you return to the top edge, behind the Power button you need to be extremely careful, there is a GSM antenna and its cable. It is necessary to peel off the glass by pressing the antenna against the body. The next antenna is GPS, it is attached more securely than GSM; tear the glass away from it with a bold movement. The left side peels off without any special tricks, and at this point the first and most difficult stage has been completed.

If one of the cables is damaged when removing the protective glass, make repairs more difficult. It will be necessary to splice the halves of the train; or replace the entire module. For example, a GSM antenna and its cable that goes under the display.

Opening the iPad frees the display matrix and controls from captivity. The Home button is removed along with the broken protective glass. Second, you need to remove the iPad display. Unscrew several screws in the corners of the matrix frame. Lift the display, find the cable fastening latch and open it by hooking it with a blade. Remove the cable from the connector and put the iPad display aside. If the Apple iPad display itself is damaged, replace it with a new one and put everything back together.

Third, remove the iPad touch screen cable in the same way. Please note, if you are repairing an iPad that is turned on, after removing the display and capacitive glass cables, you cannot press the Home and Power buttons; the backlight in the device will turn off. By pressing these buttons, the Apple iPad sends a signal to the cables; their absence will give 0 and the tablet will stop working with them. There is nothing wrong with turning off the backlight; the repaired iPad will start working normally after a reboot.

What an iPad looks like under an x-ray does not give the same impression as a live opening of the tablet. The lion's share of the space in the iPad is occupied by the battery. The batteries are permanently glued and replacement is almost never required. Frequent breakdowns in the iPad are: failure of the Home and Power buttons, and the 30-pion connector. The device is so simple and elegant inside that there is nothing left to break mechanically. The Home button is removed when repairing a broken display; I will not consider it separately. In order to replace the Power button on an iPad, after removing the protective glass, you need to unscrew the two screws on the right side, disconnect the cable and change the button module.

I will not consider breakdowns and repairs of the Apple iPad when the tablet is wet, damp, flooded with water or drowned in this material. Most often, for such a tablet repair, you need to remove the metal screens from the motherboard and resolder the chips.

When an Apple iPad 2 or iPad New is dropped, it happens that the aluminum case is dented, most often a corner. It is necessary to evaluate whether the protective glass fits tightly into place. If not, then use a file to grind off the jammed area of the body. After this operation, the Apple device looks like a logo has been bitten off. During the renovation process, the task was slightly changed: how to turn a white iPad into a black iPad. All the color on the iPad is concentrated in the frame around the display. There is also white plastic in the edging of the case, in the 3.5 jack connector and 30-pin connector, but not enough to attract attention.

Pay attention to the upper left corner and the upper edge of the Apple iPad 2 GSM; there is a GSM module and two antennas here. The Wi-Fi version of the iPad does not have these elements. The sore spot in the iPad 2 is the cable from the GSM modem to the motherboard. This 50-wire cable is mounted on conductive adhesive and comes off when subjected to a strong impact or fall. Its damage is fraught with the following problems: the iPad does not see the SIM card, the GSM connection disappears, the GPRS session is constantly interrupted, the tablet does not find GPS satellites. Replacing a cable is a complex operation; such repairs cannot be performed at home. The repair consists of replacing the cable with 50 soldered thin wires.

Fourth, remove the Home button from the old glass and apply it to the two contacts under the display. The operation of precise positioning of the button relative to the iPad body and the frame so that the part does not move to the side when gluing. Double-sided tape is glued to the edges of the Home button, which lies on the contacts. The new glass is placed in place and the button is glued to it. After this, the glass is removed along with the button.

Reconnect the display and protective glass cables. The display is secured with screws.

Fifth, for repairing iPads and other tablets, they invented and successfully sell 3M double-sided tape. The adhesive tape has rounded edges, the radius of which is exactly the same as the radius of the corners of the iPad. Corners are glued to corners, longitudinal stripes are glued to the edge of the tablet. Two drops of Super Moment Gel glue are added to the lower left corner, where the screen cable runs. Super Moment is needed to protect the loop from breaking; When exposed to direct sunlight, the iPad will heat up and the glass may peel off.

Sixth, remove the film from the second side of the tape and attach the protective glass in place. This completes the iPad repair. Replacing the glass on an iPad takes about two hours of work if you know for sure what is what.

The cost of replacing glass on an iPad includes the price of a new touchscreen and the service itself. In the offices of the trade and service company VseEkrany.RU it is a little more than 2 thousand rubles for iPad 2, 3 and 4; 3 thousand rubles – for iPad mini, mini 2, mini 3 and iPad Air. This amount may surprise some clients, even make them wary, since it is sometimes impossible to buy an original sensor with it, but with us it also includes the cost of professional installation in a workshop. There are so many reasons to doubt the quality of the services we provide. But in reality they have no basis. Our good relationships with direct suppliers of spare parts from the manufacturer's Chinese factories allow us to set low prices for branded components for Apple smartphones and tablets. An indication of their location should not confuse you: Apple has long moved the production and assembly of its equipment to China, where doing all this is much cheaper. However, this does not mean that all spare parts for Apple tablets imported from this country are original. A significantly smaller part of them, produced precisely at the official factories of the Californian corporation, meets the technical requirements of the device. The quality of other spare parts raises a number of questions. And although the cost of replacing glass on an iPad using copies is significantly lower than the price of service with originals, we would not advise you to give preference to the cheaper option. A cheap copy will never be a full replacement for a branded touchscreen. Moreover, it can cause additional breakdowns, the elimination of which will reduce the previously achieved savings to nothing. If you do not want to become a hostage to service centers, approach solving repair problems soberly and competently. The VseEkrany.RU company daily proves from its own experience that high-quality service can be affordable for any iPad owner. The cost of professional installation of a touchscreen on an Apple tablet in any of our offices will be only 300 rubles. You, of course, can refuse the help of our masters, but if you do this, then, obviously, not with the great goal of reducing costs. Those who order only original touch glass from us either want to learn a useful skill, or are forced to rely only on themselves, due to the fact that they are in neighboring regions. For residents of Moscow, we can offer a repairman to visit your home, where the service will take the same amount of time as it would have taken if it had been carried out within the walls of the workshop. We can help iPad owners from other regions of the Russian Federation in only one way - by sending a high-quality spare part by mail. You can get details about the latest version of cooperation by contacting our representatives at the numbers indicated on the website. They are also intended to accept applications from Muscovites who want a master to come to their home. Even with on-site service, you are unlikely to be embarrassed by the cost of replacing the glass on your iPad.

It's no secret that all Apple products are extremely susceptible to external influences, which is why replacing glass on an iPad 2 is the most common problem with which users contact the service center. Often, replacing the glass on an iPad 2 tablet is required when the device has suffered from external mechanical impact or sudden temperature changes, as a result of which the glass has cracked or the sensor has stopped responding to commands.

The price of replacing glass on an iPad by 2 professionals, including in St. Petersburg, without taking into account the cost of the display module itself, ranges from 1800 to 2200 rubles. The difficulty is that replacing one glass with iPad 2 is impossible. The presence of a solid display module means that you will have to change both the glass and the touchscreen on the iPad 2. In order to change the glass on the iPad 2, you need to have the appropriate tools at hand, 1 - 2 hours of free time and, of course, patience.

Repair ipad 2 glass replacement: tools:

  1. 6-piece set of specialized opening picks;
  2. Thermal bag for heating and softening the glue;
  3. A spudger is a small plastic spatula, one end of which is pointed and the other is flat;
  4. Screwdriver #00.

Replacing glass on iPad 2: operating procedure:

Heat the thermal bag

  1. Place it in the center of the microwave.

You need to make sure that the microwave plate rotates smoothly. If the plate gets stuck, the thermal bag may overheat and burn/melt.

  1. Heat for thirty seconds.
  2. During the repair process, when the thermal bag cools down, it is necessary to reheat it.

Care must be taken to ensure there is no overheating. Overheating can cause the thermal bag to simply melt.

Do not touch the thermal bag if it looks swollen.

If it stays hot in the middle, use it until it cools down. When properly heated, the thermal bag should remain warm for up to 10 minutes.

  1. You should remove the thermal bag from the microwave oven by holding the ends, since the middle is very hot. If necessary, use a mitten.

LCD Screen Plate

  1. If the screen glass is cracked, the small pieces must be handled carefully when replacing the display;
  2. Before starting actual work, you need to stick strips of wide tape over the entire iPad display. This will avoid cuts from broken glass and ensure the structural integrity of the glass when lifting the display;
  3. The rest of the manual must be followed strictly. Broken glass will continue to crack as you work, and you may have to use a metal tool to remove it completely.

It is necessary to wear safety glasses to protect your eyes. Also, be careful when handling the LCD screen to avoid damaging it.

Since we are talking about working with small glass fragments that can fly into the eyes, wearing glasses during this manipulation is mandatory!

  1. Place the thermal bag on the right edge of the iPad, in order to maximize contact, apply light pressure;
  2. Leave in this position for 90 seconds and only then try to lift the panel;
  3. There is a small gap in the iPad's adhesive tape on the top right corner of the iPad, about 2.0 inches (~5 cm) from the top of the iPad. It is this gap that must be used;
  4. Insert a spudger under the mute button into the gap between the front glass and the plastic frame. This will be enough to increase the opening;
  5. You may need to apply some force. Work patiently and carefully, and use the plastic spudger only for its intended purpose.
  6. Make sure that the tool is placed in the correct place - between the plastic front panel and the glass of the front panel;
  7. Continuing to hold the spudger in the same place, between the front glass and the plastic frame, insert the pick next to it;
  8. Remove the spudger and slide the pick under the front glass to a depth of ~0.5 inches;
  9. While working to remove the adhesive from the right side area, reheat the thermal bag and place it on the bottom edge of the iPad;
  10. While it heats the bottom edge, continue to work with the sticky layer on the right side of the iPad;
  11. Move the pick up the edge of the iPad to remove the glue;
  12. The adhesive layer is very durable, you may have to apply force, but you must work very carefully;
  13. If the tip of the pick is visible through the front glass, it should be pulled out a little. Such moments should be avoided, since the pick may carry the adhesive onto the front side of the LCD display, which will subsequently be difficult to remove;
  14. You may need to move the heated thermal bag back to the right edge of the iPad. This depends on whether the iPad has cooled down or not;
  15. If the pick gets stuck in the glue, you will have to go back a few millimeters and resume moving along the outer edge of the iPad.
  16. Before removing the pick from the lower corner area, it is necessary to insert a second one under the right edge of the front glass in order to prevent the glue from hardening again;
  17. Warm up the thermal bag again and move it to the top edge of the iPad;
  18. The next few steps require utmost attention;
  19. The Wi-Fi antenna is attached to the bottom right edge of the back of the iPad using screws and a cable. Due to the location of the Wi-Fi antenna, you must be careful when handling tools, otherwise you may damage it;
  20. You need to remove the adhesive layer between the antenna and the front panel without damaging the thin parts that secure the antenna to the bottom of the iPad;
  21. Now you need to move the pick in the lower right corner of the iPad, thus removing the glue;
  22. Do not move the pick further than the lower right corner, this may damage the Wi-Fi antenna;
  23. You need to move the pick along the lower right edge of the front panel. The Wi-Fi antenna is very close to the corner and is easily separated if you apply too much force to remove the glue;
  24. Do not remove the pick completely from under the front glass, you just need to pull it out slightly so that ~1/8 of it is still under the front glass;
  25. Slide the pick along the bottom edge of the iPad to remove the adhesive layer above the Wi-Fi antenna;
  26. Once the area around the Wi-Fi antenna is completely covered with the pick, you need to reinsert the tool about 3 inches from the right edge or next to the home button to its full depth;
  27. Move the lock, Wi-Fi antenna to the right and thereby remove the glue that secures it to the front glass;
  28. The antenna attaches to the bottom of the iPad using screws and a cable. This manipulation allows you to separate the antenna from the front panel without damaging it;
  29. Continue moving the pick along the bottom of the iPad, pushing the tool deep into the home button area, and then once it is past the home button, insert it again to a depth of 1/2 inch;
  30. If the glue along the bottom of the edge has cooled down, you need to heat the thermal bag again to soften the adhesive layer;
  31. Do not put it in the microwave for more than 30 seconds and make sure that at least 10 minutes pass between heating procedures;
  32. Continue moving the pick along the entire bottom edge of the iPad;
  33. On iPad 4 models, the pick can be inserted 1/2-inch deep in this area to avoid damaging the ribbon cable on the home button;
  34. Insert the pick under the front glass next to the “home” button;
  35. Microwave the hot bag again and place it on the left edge of the iPad to soften the adhesive in that area;
  36. Slide the pick along the top edge of the iPad, pulling it slightly to get around the front camera bracket;
  37. The adhesive layer along this area is very thick and may require considerable effort. It is necessary that the movements be smooth and accurate, make sure that the tool does not slip, otherwise you can do it yourself or the iPad;
  38. If the glue has almost completely cooled down, you need to warm up the thermal bag again and place it along the top edge;
  39. If the pick gets stuck in the adhesive layer, you need to go back and resume movement, as already described;
  40. Continue moving one pick along the top edge of the iPad and move the pick that is in the upper left corner;
  41. If the glue has softened well, you can remove the thermal bag from the iPad to make it easier to work with. However, if the glue is still quite sticky, you will need to reheat the iOpener and place it on the left edge while working;
  42. Slide the pick along the left edge of the iPad, removing the adhesive. The glue here is thin due to the fact that the digitizer runs along the entire left side. Make sure the pick is not too deep (1/2 inch max) to prevent damage to the digitizer;
  43. The digitizer cable is located approximately 2 inches from the bottom of the iPad. Stop the pick movement when the connector reaches ~2.25 inches;
  44. Using the pick that is still on the bottom edge of the iPad, remove the glue from the entire bottom left corner;
  45. The bottom of the digitizer cable is only 1" away from the bottom of the iPad. Make sure to move carefully and slowly to avoid breaking this cable.
  46. Using one of the picks, lift the lower right corner of the iPad and grab it with your fingers;
  47. In some areas around the perimeter of the iPad, the glue may have hardened again. If this is the case, you need to go through the mediator again and “cut” the glue there;
  48. Holding the iPad in the upper and lower right corners, roll the front glass away from the device;
  49. Be careful where the adhesive still sticks to the front panel, you will need to use a pick in these areas;
  50. Remove the four screws using a #00 2mm screwdriver securing the LCD to the aluminum frame;
  51. The front panel ribbon cables are connected under the LCD display. To access them, you need to temporarily flip the LCD display to the opposite side;
  52. You only need to flip the LCD display over, but never try to remove it completely from the iPad. The data acquisition device cable remains connected;
  53. Lift the LCD from its long edge closest to the volume buttons and gently fold it away from the rear case area, as if it were a page in a book;
  54. Place the LCD face down in the front panel area;

Front panel assembly mechanism

  1. Use the flat end of a spudger to gently pry open the retaining flaps on the two ZIF sockets;
  2. Make sure that it is the hinged retaining valves that are captured, and not the sockets themselves;
  3. Use the flat end of a spudger to pry up the digitizer cable latch on the motherboard;
  4. Carefully pull out the digitizer cable, folding it towards the rear case;
  5. Pull the digitizer ribbon cable from two sockets on the motherboard at once;
  6. To remove the entire front panel mechanism, you need to slide out the ribbon cable between the main body and the LCD;
  7. You need to be careful when moving the LCD display, do not try to remove it from the iPad - its cable will still remain connected;
  8. Lift the LCD from its long edge, which is further from the digitizer cable, and carefully flip it over to the rear case area, the same motion as when closing a book; Hold the LCD display and carefully slide the bezel away from the iPad. You need to be careful not to snag the digitizer cable on the rear case or LCD;
  9. Reinstall the LCD display into the case;

iPad 2 touch glass replacement: home button mechanism

  1. The entire “home” button mechanism is fixed on the front panel with glue. The use of a heated iOpener is highly recommended to soften the adhesive layer in this area;
  2. Place the thermal bag in the microwave and heat for 30 seconds at maximum power;
  3. Place it on top of the home button on the front of the display;
  4. Insert the flat end of the spudger under the right edge of the “home” button, now you can understand the right end is up;
  5. Using the same principle, raise the left edge of the “home” button;
  6. Now you can fully raise the “home” button mount on the front panel;
  7. Insert the flat edge of a spudger under the home button mounting bracket;
  8. Move the tool along the bracket holding the springs, thus removing the adhesive layer;
  9. Remove the “home” button bracket from the front panel area;

Replacing broken glass on iPad 2: camera bracket

  1. The camera bracket is attached to the front panel with glue. It is highly recommended to use a thermal bag to soften the glue;
  2. Follow the heating instructions described at the beginning of this manual;
  3. Don't overheat! Wait at least ten minutes before reheating it;
  4. Place it on top of the front camera on the front edge of the top of the display;
  5. Use the flat end of a spudger to remove the adhesive layer between the camera bracket and the front panel;
  6. The camera bracket moves approximately 2 mm to the right/left, depending on the area of pressing;
  7. Raise and remove the camera bracket from the front panel;

iPad 2 glass repair: front panel

  1. Now the front panel remains completely “naked”;
  2. When replacing the panel with a new one, you must remember that the new part may have a protective film on the outside and/or inside the frame. It needs to be removed.
