Comparison of sizes of iPhone 7 and. Some devices have characteristics that do not fall into the above categories, but it is important to point them out

Almost all leaks were confirmed. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were unveiled today. Now we have a new color, more memory, a more powerful processor, better camera(The Plus version received a double module) and a few more features, which we’ll talk about immediately.

We will build the material very simply - the same way the presentation was built. And let's start, of course, with the updated appearance of the smartphone.

New design

There are several innovations here. And most of them are located on the back of the device.

The plastic sides of the antennas have been slightly modified. Gone are those ugly stripes that closed off the space at the top and bottom of the device. Now everything looks much nicer.

Just like Meizu MX6.

Now the metal body fits over the lens rear camera, that is, the shiny ring around the eye was removed in the iPhone 6 and 6S. This simplified design looks more concise.

The 7 Plus has two 12-megapixel cameras in this place, but more on that later.

They say the Home button is now completely new. This means a more durable base, as well as the presence of an updated Taptic Engine with the ability to customize vibration to suit your needs. There are no details yet, but there will be when I get my hands on a copy for testing.

The next innovation from the “high time” category is dust and moisture protection according to the IP67 standard. More precisely, resistance to splashes, water and dust. I didn’t find any information regarding the details anywhere on the site, but the name itself does not allow it to be interpreted more broadly than it actually is. In general, you shouldn’t throw it into the water, and getting caught in the rain is no longer scary. For the rest, it will be your own fault, if anything happens.

Rumors regarding a new colorway have only recently surfaced. No, I'm not talking about the matte blue that was discussed a couple of months ago. I'm talking about the glossy black coloring, which in the original is called “Jet black”, and in the adapted translation - “Onyx Black”.

It’s interesting that the fifth color will be available in configurations with 128 and 256 GB of internal memory. The initial 32GB models (not 16GB like all previous releases) will only come in four base colors. Well, what about the basics? Space Gray smoothly flowed into “noble matte black”, so in fact we have two new colors.

The dimensions of the new products have remained virtually unchanged compared to the previous two generations. Below is all the information on this matter.

Sadly, the 7 Plus remains just as bulky as its ancestor. No one else has such a large device with a 5.5-inch screen. Apparently, Apple deliberately does not want to reduce its dimensions, because this is the same as signing off on its past mistakes.

Cameras

With the release of each new iPhone generation It also updates its photo capabilities. Today's case was no exception.

Main camera

The resolution of the main camera has not changed - it is still the same 12 Megapixels as in the 6S. But this is just a number, but in essence we have new module for photos and videos.

  • aperture was improved to f/1.8 (previously f/2.2), which allowed 50% more light to pass through
  • six lens lens
  • optical image stabilization (OIS) for photo and video shooting
  • shooting Slo-Mo in resolution up to 1080p
  • a special processor for processing information from the camera (Image signal processor), which does it 60% faster than before

The appearance of an optical “stub” in the younger version is an expected step on Apple’s part. Let me remind you that previously only the Plus version of the Apple smartphone had this privilege.

Quad-LEG is new type flash, which both iPhone models received. From the name it is clear that there are 4 LEDs, which, according to the manufacturer, provide 50% more light than before.

And now some interesting mathematics from me personally. At the presentation, it was announced that when creating one picture, the ISP processor processes up to 100 billion operations in 25 milliseconds. I would venture to suggest that there is a certain cycle of operations for each pixel of the matrix, and in our case there are 12,000,000 of them. By simple division we find that in fact each image goes through 8.33 operations in the same 0.25 seconds. Doesn't sound so cool anymore.

In addition, we expanded the color range, improved auto-detection of white balance, and so on. All these nuances will be noticeable by direct comparison of this generation and 2015.

Apple shared an example of photos from the built-in camera. And I will forward them to you.

Main cameras (iPhone 7 Plus)

As expected, the phablet received a double module. The first sensor is wide-angle, with a telephoto lens installed on top of the second. Both modules are 12 megapixels.

Two cameras are needed to do two simple things.

Firstly, there is a 2x optical zoom. There is also digital (10x for photos and 6x for video), but you shouldn’t take this seriously, because it simply stretches the image under the screen, exposing all the pixels and flaws of digital shooting.

Secondly, there is blur or bokeh. This is achieved by analyzing an object with two sensors at once, as well as the distance to it. In principle, Apple hasn’t come up with anything new here. We saw the same technology back in the spring of 2015. All these features worked poorly and still work. Even an advertising example photograph clearly shows this. Look at the image below.

The hair that I marked with a red circle should be in focus. And if they are clear at the beginning, and then suddenly blurred, then they were simply suppressed by software algorithms.

Front-camera

The FaceTime front camera is now 7 megapixels, instead of 5, as it was in the 6S. Brighter, more colorful, richer in possibilities - nothing more specific was said.

Display

It’s not clear what exactly, but they did something to the screen. Now it is 25% brighter, the color gamut is larger, so the picture is now cinematic quality. It sounds impressive, of course, but what it means is unknown.

3D Touch is still there. They say that from now on it is available everywhere in iOS.

New processor

Many other brands begin their presentation with the characteristics of their product. Well, maybe from the design, but then there’s definitely praise for the chipset. Apple is not like that. They started talking about the internal filling much later - almost at the very end.

The name of the new stone is A10 Fusion. The processor includes 4 cores, two of which operate at higher frequencies. They are 40% faster than the A9 cores and twice as powerful as the A8 chip, which was installed in the six.

The other two cores are economical and operate at 1/5 the strength of their pumped-up neighbors.

It is clear that the load is cleverly switched to those cores that are needed at the moment. All this allows the new product to consume less energy than its predecessors. Indeed, Apple assures that the iPhone 7 lasts two hours longer than the “six es”, and the 7 Plus is one hour longer lasting than its predecessor.

In addition, the A10 Fusion includes a graphics accelerator (GPU) with 6 cores. It is 50% faster than the A9.

Apple finally heard the prayers of their fans and increased the memory capacity by minimal configuration- now it's 32 GB. The intermediate model received 128 GB, and the top versions will be equipped with 256 GB. That's four times more memory than mine MacBook Air 11'' 2012.

Stereo sound

Yes, the iPhone 7 has two speakers. They are installed on the top and bottom ends, so now we will enjoy stereo sound. The overall volume doubled.

3.5 mm down

As expected, Apple decided to abandon the standard 3.5 mm headphone jack in their smartphones. We remember the times when everyone was looking for adapters from 2.5 to 3.5 mm. Obviously, everything is returning to normal and now we will buy adapters from Lightning to Ali on Ali standard port for the headset. By the way, one is already included in the kit.

It is clear that the supplied EarPods will come with a corresponding connector for connection. By the way, at the presentation they said that some of the manufacturers have already prepared by releasing their solutions with Lightning port. I'm talking about JBL Reflect Aware.

Wireless future

I'm talking about AirPods, which were also presented today. They look like regular EarPods, but without a cable. At all.

These are two physically unrelated headphones, which, firstly, are wireless, secondly, will be sold separately ($159 at the end of October), and thirdly, if you lose one, throw away the second.

There are small photo sensors on the body that turn on the headphones when you insert them into your ears and, for example, pause playback when you take them out. Everything is simple and elegant.

Of course, they have a built-in microphone, and a double tap activates Siri.

In addition, the “ears” are equipped with accelerometers that react when you start to say something. It is not yet clear how all this works in practice, but it sounds cool.

Interestingly, the headphones have their own processor called W1. It is responsible for the operation of the accessory without failures, as well as for optimizing energy consumption. 5 hours of audio playback at 50% volume - easy! By the way, the remaining charge is very easy to check. You bring the headphones to the iPhone and it displays everything (apparently there is an NFC tag), or you can ask Siri.

The gadget is stored and charged in its own case. 15 minutes of recharging will provide 3 hours of music playback.

Connection

The device supports LTE Advanced. In theory, data transfer speeds can reach 450 Mbps (three times faster than the iPhone 6).

Built-in Wi-Fi module supports data transfer at speeds up to 866 Mbps (802.11 ac + MIMO). Unfortunately, the ac standard will not work in officially purchased iPhone 7 in Russia, because it is not certified. In general, there is a mess going on with this standard.

iPhone 7 LTE models and support

It all depends on the modifications. Two iPhone 7 and 7+ models will be officially sold in Russia:

  • A1778 (iPhone 7)
  • A1784 (iPhone 7 Plus)

Both devices will support the following list of frequencies:

  • 1 (2100 MHz)

The same configurations will be sold from two American operators: AT&T and T-Mobile.

For all other North American operators, other CDMA versions have been manufactured: A1660 and A1661 (Plus). And they will also be sold in China.

Specially for Japan, their own configurations were released: A1779 and A1785 (Plus version). We are talking about Softbank, DoCoMo and KDDI.

Prices and start of sales

At the presentation, prices for the USA were traditionally announced. They're some of the most affordable in the world (even with tax not included) and here's what they look like.

Note that the cost of the iPhone in the US remains the same year after year, but in Europe it is constantly growing. So, last year “six es” could be bought for 739 euros, and now it’s already 759. The Plus version cost 849, and now it’s 899. This is a normal pricing policy.

Well, and Russia, of course. Fortunately, the price order is already known.

Obviously, with a tax refund in Europe, you can buy yourself a new iPhone for about 50,000 rubles, but without an official guarantee in our country. This is so that the cunning Russians don’t fool around with buying devices from somewhere it’s unclear, but buy them where they’re supposed to.

Let me remind you that in the rest of the civilized world the iPhone warranty is worldwide. Bought in Brazil, repaired in Spain - normal practice.

Pre-orders for the new product start on September 9, and the start of sales in the first wave countries is expected on September 16.

Russia is entering the second wave, which will begin in a week, that is, on September 23rd. Very soon, so it’s time to go to the bank and find out what’s going on with the terms of consumer lending.

P.S. In conclusion, the sad news is that the iPhone 6 is disappearing from sales, according to at least as a new device. Its place is taken by the iPhone SE with 16 and 64 GB, as well as the iPhone 6S with its older brother with 32 and 128 GB.

So, today we will talk about a topic that interests quite a lot of people. Apple users. We will talk about the size of the iPhone, or to be more precise, we will consider all models without exception.

Today, smartphones are made so large that many people want to know everything in detail down to the millimeter. The reason for this is probably different size hands and I want to immediately know how comfortable the phone will be.

The article will be structured as follows, you can simply go to the desired model and find out about its dimensions, or go to the table and compare this indicator with other models.

Dimensions of first generation iPhones, 3G, 3GS

You can’t do without the very first iPhone, because it all began with them and this is part of history. Sometimes you come across people who use such phones and are completely satisfied with them.

Thanks to small screen and not oversized body, the dimensions of these smartphones were incredibly small. People with any hand size could use them, if you know what I mean.

  • first generation: 115.5×61×11.6 mm;
  • 3G: 115.5×62.1×12.3 mm;
  • 3GS: 115.5×62.1×12.3 mm.

Oddly enough, at that time these were considered incredibly large gadgets and a lot of people wanted to get their hands on them. The requirements were completely different.

Dimensions iPhone 4, 4S

These two representatives were the last to be equipped with 3.5-inch screens. Nevertheless, they managed to gain quite a lot of popularity at that time.

Despite the very heavy weight, the glass case captivated quite a lot of people with its appearance and smartphones were sold like hot cakes.

  • 4: 115.2×58.66×9.3 mm;
  • 4S: 115.2x58.6x9.3 mm.

Steve Jobs said that this is the ideal size for a phone and that nothing larger is needed. But as it turned out in reality, the market began to dictate completely different rules.

Sizes of iPhones 5, 5S, 5C, SE

Although slightly, the size of smartphones has grown. The screens became 4 inches, but the design was still recognizable and elements of previous models were present.

The smartphone received the most dramatic changes at the back, because now it was solid aluminum and the phone began to look completely different.

  • 5: 58.6×123.8×7.6 mm;
  • 5S: 59.2×124.4×8.97 mm;
  • 5C: 58.6×123.8×7.6 mm;
  • SE: 58.6×123.8×7.6 mm.

There were a lot of memes about the extension of the previous generation phone. But as it turns out later, the 5S will become one of the most successful in design.

Dimensions iPhone 6, 6 PLUS, 6S, 6S PLUS

The time has come for global changes and Apple had to completely adapt to the market, real shovels began to appear.

We forget about the comfortable size of smartphones, because now the main criterion when choosing is the large screen. People are starting to sew new pockets in their pants.

  • 6: 138.1×67×6.9 mm;
  • 6 PLUS: 158.1×77.8×7.1 mm;
  • 6S: 138.3×67.1×7.1 mm;
  • 6S PLUS: 158.1×77.8×7.3 mm.

But as practice has shown, despite the not very successful design, everyone was happy to buy Apple and this line is in demand to this day.

Dimensions of iPhones 7, 7 PLUS

A new generation of smartphones has begun to appear, and as we see, there have been no significant changes in screen size, much less size.

They just changed the design a little and now it has become more neat. New colors have been added and many small interesting changes have appeared.

  • 7: 138.3×67.1×7.1 mm;
  • 7 PLUS: 158.2×77.9×7.3 mm.

For now, growth has stopped and it is very interesting what will happen next. After all, Apple likes to dictate its own rules, to which many manufacturers must adapt.

Comparison of all iPhone sizes in centimeters and inches

To finish, I want to make a big one comparison table, which will contain the dimensions of all iPhones in centimeters and inches.

Most publications use millimeters, so as per tradition, I will use them too. To make comparison easier, here are a couple of interesting points.

There are 10 millimeters in 1 centimeter, 1 inch equals 2.54 centimeters and logically, in 1 inch we have 25.4 millimeters.

Here is the plate itself, in which the first indicator is in mm, and the second in inches:

Model Height Width Thickness
1st generation 115 mm (4.5 in) 61 mm (2.4 in) 11.6 mm (0.46 in)
3G 115.5 mm (4.55 in) 62.1 mm (2.44 in) 12.3 mm (0.48 in)
3GS 115.5 mm (4.55 in) 62.1 mm (2.44 in) 12.3 mm (0.48 in)
4 115.2 mm (4.54 in) 58.6 mm (2.31 in) 9.3 mm (0.37 in)
4S 115.2 mm (4.54 in) 58.6 mm (2.31 in) 9.3 mm (0.37 in)
5 123.8 mm (4.87 in) 58.6 mm (2.31 in) 7.6 mm (0.30 in)
5C 124.4 mm (4.90 in) 59.2 mm (2.33 in) 8.97 mm (0.353 in)
5S 123.8 mm (4.87 in) 58.6 mm (2.31 in) 7.6 mm (0.30 in)
S.E. 123.8 mm (4.87 in) 58.6 mm (2.31 in) 7.6 mm (0.30 in)
6 138.1 mm (5.44 in) 67.0 mm (2.64 in) 6.9 mm (0.27 in)
6 PLUS 158.1 mm (6.22 in) 77.8 mm (3.06 in) 7.1 mm (0.28 in)
6S 138.3 mm (5.44 in) 67.1 mm (2.64 in) 7.1 mm (0.28 in)
6S PLUS 158.2 mm (6.23 in) 77.9 mm (3.07 in) 7.3 mm (0.29 in)
7 138.3 mm (5.44 in) 67.1 mm (2.64 in) 7.1 mm (0.28 in)
7 PLUS 158.2 mm (6.23 in) 77.9 mm (3.07 in) 7.3 mm (0.29 in)

This is roughly what everything looks like and now you can comfortably compare everything necessary indicators. As for me, everything is done very conveniently.

The year before last Apple company released two models flagship smartphones- iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which have many differences, but the main thing is the size of both devices. Now we will give you exact figures so that you have an idea of the dimensions of the new products, and also compare them with each other and with competitors.

iPhone 7 Plus Dimensions

Naturally, with a 5.5-inch iPhone panel 7 Plus has larger dimensions. The length of its metal structure reaches 15.82 cm, width 7.79 cm, and thickness 0.73 cm. Due to the increased diagonal, the screen height is 12.18 cm and its width is 6.85 cm. The screen-to-body ratio of the phablet is the same as that of its predecessor - 67.89 percent.

Size comparison between iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

Considering the difference in screen sizes, the iPhone 7 is noticeably more compact than its brother, but the 4.7-inch model loses to the 5.5-inch, although by a small margin. As you may have noticed, the screen-to-body ratio on the iPhone 7 Plus is slightly better: 67.89% versus 65.82%. This suggests that a larger device makes better use of front panel space.

One way or another, most people will find it uncomfortable to use the Apple iPhone 7 Plus, since you will need to hold it in one hand and control it with the other. In that iPhone plan 7 is more interesting. If you still have some kind of tablet, then there is no point in buying a 5.5-inch version.

Size comparison with Galaxy S7 Edge and OnePlus 3

The iPhone 7 Plus phablet is noticeably larger than the Galaxy S7 Edge, although their screen diagonal is the same. The Samsung smartphone is less than 8 mm taller than its competitor in height, and it is also approximately 4 mm narrower. The only advantage of Apple's phone is the thickness of its body. A similar situation is observed in comparison iPhone sizes 7 Plus and OnePlus 3: Chinese brand made its product more compact, although not so thin.

The Apple iPhone 7 is lower and thinner than the Galaxy S7, although its diagonal is significantly smaller. It also loses to the “Korean” in terms of the volume of the built-in battery. The thickness of the Samsung flagship is 0.79 cm, the width of its body reaches 6.96 cm, and the height is 14.24 cm. OnePlus 3, naturally, loses to the seventh iPhone in all these parameters, but its screen is much larger.
