Do you need a calendar? But among the available programs, only Word is available? No question, even with a little knowledge of Word, and with this guide, you will definitely be able to create a beautiful calendar for any year.
First of all, let’s choose a background for our future calendar so that we can match the colors of the calendar grid to it. I usually look for the background in this way. IN search bar Google, type background, select the “Images” tab, then “ Additional settings", and then the size of the pictures is "Large". I liked the blue jeans background, so that’s what I save on my computer.
Calendar grid in Word
If you want the calendar to be horizontal orientation, then choose like me → landscape. I set the top, left, bottom and right margins to 0.5. You set depending on the unit of measurement that is set in your Word, or on the print margins of your printer.
I form the grid using a table. But first, using the same table, we outline the location of the months. To do this, create a table with 4 columns and 3 columns. Insert → Table, and select 4 squares horizontally and 3 vertically. Now in the top cell we will add a table of 7 cells horizontally and 8 vertically. You should get a picture like this.
Select the entire top row of cells and click right click mouse and select “Merge Cells”. Now you can enter the month title here - January. Now, directly, we form the January grid data in our 7x8 table. To do this, I open the Windows calendar for January 2017. In the top seven cells I write: “Mon”, “Tue”, “St”, “Thu”, “Fri”, “Sat”, “Sun”. Well, in the remaining cells there are days corresponding to January. You should get it like this.
Now we need to decorate our month beautifully. I highlight all Saturdays and Sundays in red font. I increase the font size of the title. I make the rest of the font in bold. I make the table frames thicker and white. I decorated the remaining cells in this way.
The next stage of creating a calendar is the most tedious. We need to copy our month to the remaining 11 cells and correct it accordingly for each month. The process becomes easier when you come across months that start on the same day of the week as the previous ones. You can simply copy such a month and adjust the number of days.
When all the months are ready, let's do the background.
Add background to calendar
Since we have already downloaded the background, let's proceed with the installation. This is done this way: Page Layout → Page Color → Methods → Fills → Drawing". And select the desired background from your computer. Now we can remove the fields from our external 4x3 cell table and adjust the color of the month names. Add “2017” above the months. Step-by-step instructions for creating a calendar in Excel

Making headlines
Enter the following formula into cell A1: ="Calendar for " & YEAR(TODAY()) & " year". Function TODAY() returns the current date (we'll use it often). Accordingly, a bunch of functions YEAR(TODAY()) will return us the current year.
Now let's create the month headers. In the cell where January is written, write the following formula =DATE(YEAR(TODAY()),1,1). To create headings for subsequent months, we will use another very useful function =DATEMON(B3,1). This function returns a date distant from the specified number of months (in our case, one). Thus, we get the following picture (in addition, I added a little formatting):
Putting down the numbers
To automatically enter numbers in the calendar, we will use just one formula - an array formula. It sounds scary at first glance, but if you figure it out, everything is easy and simple. Select cells B5:H10 and enter the following formula (do not rush to press Enter):
=DATE(YEAR(B3),MONTH(B3),1-1)-(WEEKDAY(DATE(YEAR(B3),MONTH(B3),1-1))-1)+(0:1:2:3 :4:5:6)*7+(1;2;3;4;5;6;7)
Instead of Enter, press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Enter, thus inserting an array formula. As a result, in the selected range we get the dates of the month indicated in cell B3.
We carry out a similar operation with other months or simply copy the range of January dates into the following months. We get the following picture:
Format
Let's format the cells so that they contain only numbers (and not all dates). Select the dates, open the cell format ( Ctrl+1) and manually enter the following format:
The calendar is taking on an increasingly familiar look.
Adding conditional formatting
Now in January the calendar contains the dates December 29, 30, 31, as well as some dates in February. Let's hide these numbers a little. For this we will use conditional formatting. Select cells B5:H10 and create a conditional formatting rule. Cells for which the following formula evaluates to TRUE will be formatted:

Automatically select the current date in the calendar
To do this, we create another conditional formatting rule. A cell will only be formatted if its value is equal to current date (=TODAY()):

This time we'll make do with regular cell filling. Choose according to your taste. I got it like this:
Adding holidays
Let's create a new one Excel sheet (Holidays) and add a smart table with a column to it Holidays. We will enter all holidays in this column. I have already done this, you can easily copy and use it.
Let's go back to our calendar and create another conditional formatting rule. The conditional formatting formula will check whether the date is a holiday. And if the formula returns TRUE, the cell will be formatted. Here is the formula:

It remains to copy cells B5:H10 to other months and our automatic calendar is ready and can serve us for more than one year.
Change the Excel calendar color scheme
If you use theme colors when creating a calendar, you can later change them in one simple move. Simply by changing the theme colors on the tab Page layout. Choose the one you like.

Images can be moved with the mouse in calendar windows. The image size can be changed by stretching or shrinking it with the mouse button. You can also change the image size by clicking on the “+” and “–” buttons on the program panel.
For example, I inserted two ordinary photographs into the calendar template.

The created calendar, saved as an image, can be printed later when it is convenient for you.
In the program you can change the contents of the thumbnails for each month. To do this, double-click on the thumbnail of the selected month. After this, the “Month Thumbnails” window opens.
In the settings you can change the distances, change the font color of the month name, the names of the days of the week and the number of days. You can choose the same settings for all months of the year, or make separate ones, different settings for every month.
