SkyUI— modification, the purpose of which is to improve the user interface Skyrim, making it easier to use with mouse and keyboard, using screen real estate, and looking much better.

Moreover, when creating a new interface, the original interface was taken into account, so in this modification you will find both old and new components.

The goal of this modification is not to recreate the entire interface from scratch. Instead, developers try to identify and change those places in the interface that need improvement, while at the same time keeping those things that are already done well.

These are the goals that developers follow:

  • find the perfect balance between " simple menu" And " information overload»
  • easy installation and configuration
  • make sure that users don't feel like they're using a mod
  • support custom settings

Since changing the entire user interface is a big job, the creators of the modification are gradually updating the modification. Below you can see what has already been done, as well as what is planned to be done next.

Inventory

The player's inventory has been changed from a two-layer menu to a single-layer large panel.

It includes the following features:

  • icons will replace the list, the categories of which are presented as a text list
  • colored icons for each type of item
  • customizable text size, which will allow you to display more items
  • additional columns with additional information about items. For example, weight and cost, as well as damage and protection for specific categories
  • sortable columns according to certain characteristics
  • additional status icons for stolen, enchanted and poisoned items
  • full-text inventory search
  • Intuitive and clear keyboard navigation that also supports gamepads
  • customizable item card and 3D items that supports multiple monitors
  • speakers can also be hidden and returned again

Trade menu and container menu

Trade and container menus have the same appearance as the new inventory, which includes features such as sorting and searching.

Additional features:

  • two tabs for switching between the player’s inventory and the merchant’s or container’s
  • Carry weight is now displayed during trading at the bottom of the menu
  • Fixed control keys in the container menu. No keys " Take everything"when you want to put things in a container

Magic menu

The magic menu is adapted according to the same principle as the others. The panel is now on the left side for a consistent look and feel.

Icons for each type of magic are now easy to recognize in the general list, and new sorting settings will improve the use of the menu for magicians:

  • Organize spells by skill level, mana cost, duration, or area of effect
  • sort dragon screams by level and cooldown
  • sort active effects by source and remaining time

Map menu

Finding certain locations on the map by name can be challenging, especially as the number of open locations on the map increases.

The developers studied this problem and solved it by adding a search menu for the map menu:

  • searching among open locations takes seconds
  • the selected location is highlighted and automatically located in the middle of the map
  • markers added by mods are also supported

Active effects menu

Instead of having the magic menu always open, active magic effects are now displayed during gameplay.

For effects that change a character's attributes, emblems are used to indicate the type of change.

For temporary effects, the time remaining until the effect ends is displayed.

All types of magical effects that the game includes are supported. This allows you to support all user modifications.

To support individual user settings, the following properties can be configured:

  • icon size
  • alignment and orientation
  • manual position adjustment
  • minimum duration threshold

Please note that active effects are optionally displayed. They can be disabled in the SkyUI configuration menu.

Favorites Menu

The new favorites menu is still close to the original concept - a quick, unobtrusive way to access the items you need.

To improve it, the developers have made several additions and changes:

  • three additional categories to filter your equipment (weapons and armor), aid (potions and ingredients) and magic (spells and shouts)
  • reduce the item list by adding space and improving hotkey indicators
  • Item icons are now visible, just like in the inventory

In addition to the main feature of the new favorites menu, there are 8 customizable item groups.
These groups are accessible through the menu at the bottom of favorites and are controlled directly from the menu.

This makes them useful when switching advanced categorization in the Group Use group. This process allows you to separate items by their types:

  • armor, weapons and accessories dress up
  • potions are consumed and poisons are applied to the current weapon
  • weapons, shields and spells are equipped, with full support for two-handed combos

For groups, you can also use custom hotkeys outside of this menu. Player enchanted items (if they have a unique name) and temporary items are also supported.

Installation

  • Unpack the contents of the archive into the game's Data folder.
  • Activate in Skyrim launcher SkyUI.esp

Despite the vastness and versatility of the gaming world of TES: Skyrim, the interface of the PC version is no different from the console version, which is one big disadvantage.

Let's say a word about Skyrim SkyUI

The Bethesda company, colloquially referred to as “Gazebo”, which gave birth to such masterpieces as Fallout, Call of Duty, was in no particular hurry to implement the idea promised in one of the interviews about improving the game interface for the PC version of the game, but settled on cross-plagiarism of its own projects.

A group of modmakers decided not to wait and the global Skyrim mod SkyUI was released. The entire inventory organization system has undergone a complete overhaul.

  • Item categorization is now displayed as icons rather than the boring, familiar gray labels.
  • The typing of objects is also represented by convenient labels.
  • Fonts have been optimized and made smaller to cover more items in your inventory.
  • Additional characteristics of items in the inventory have been specified.
  • Added the ability to select and organize according to item indicators.
  • Enchanted items, poisoned swords and arrows, and stolen items now have separate marks for easy searching in the inventory.
  • The ability to search for a specific item by name (only in the English version of Skyrim SkyUI). A very convenient moment. Perhaps this point is the only difference between SkyUI for Skyrim in Russian and its English-language counterpart.
  • The ability to individually customize the interface based on the player’s screen resolution has been worked out.

Script extender

In order for mods for Skyrim SkyUI (and not only) to function correctly, a so-called script extender called Skyrim Script Extender (abbreviated SKSE) has been developed. When downloading a new mod from the Internet, you must pay attention to the requirements. Most often, the above-mentioned SKSE is required for correct operation.

Installation is extremely simple: just copy the plugin to the root directory and run it. All subsequent mods must be installed through it, and only then launch Skyrim. SkyUI for 1.9.32.0* is the most current version for the correct operation of both the plugin and mods. As you can see, nothing complicated.

When selecting various updates, you need to look specifically for mods for Skyrim SkyUI, because they are compiled taking into account the presence of these modifications. The absence of the SkyUI and SKSE components in the modification code may lead to the game not working correctly. At startup, a message will appear notifying you that a number of necessary components for correct operation are missing. This indicates not only the removal of some components, but also the installation of an outdated mod that did not provide for the use of SkyUI and the script extender.

"Skyrim". Mod SkyUI 4.1. Advantages and disadvantages

Version 4.1 was released at the end of 2011 and is considered the “good” mod that players have been waiting for. With the elimination of many errors, bugs and freezes.

When creating SkyUI 4.1, like any other mod, the developers pursued the goal of optimizing the existing game interface, and not recreating it from the very beginning. For example, a very important innovation was the assignment of hot keys not only for each weapon, but for entire sets.

A menu has appeared for trade and containers (boxes, bags and other items):

  • There are two tabs that show the contents of the merchant and the player. The total weight of the items being carried is displayed.
  • The display of some inventory keys has been adjusted.
  • Manual formatting of item names is provided.
  • A bug with the gamepad that involved selecting the wrong item when scrolling has been fixed.
  • The spell menu has also undergone changes; it is now located in the lower left corner and is a set of intuitive icons according to the schools of magic. It is possible to organize spells by the level of required magic, damage, level and cooldown time.
  • The map menu allows you to search among open locations, and the “favorites” function still allows you to access the registry of the most necessary things with one keystroke.

According to player feedback, there were errors in the display of enchanted items: the mark indicating a weapon was present only if there was a charge in the weapon. If there were no charges, the mark was not displayed.

Installation required game version 1.9 or higher, as well as SKSE.

Continuing the tradition

Skyrim SkyUI 5.1 was released towards the end of 2015. Differences from the previous version:

  • The presence of additional icons indicating books (read or not).
  • It is in this version that the above-mentioned search by item name is implemented (as the modmakers say, a search adjustment for the Russian version is also not far off).
  • The ability to customize the interface for playing on multiple monitors has been developed: icons and menu columns can be moved to places convenient for the player.
  • Columns can be hidden and brought back again.
  • Added a number of settings for text input in the mod configuration menu.
  • The structure in the alchemy menu has been corrected, which incorrectly displayed the list of effects.
  • Also, a bug that incorrectly displayed the required level of required spirit for soul stones that were not completely filled was partially corrected. The developers announced the final correction of this bug upon the release of the new SKSE.

For the successful functioning of the game and an unforgettable experience of traveling through the vast terrain called “Skyrim”, SkyUI 5.1 requires:

  • Availability of SKSE version 1.7.3 or higher.
  • Game version 1.9.32 or higher.

According to the established trend, each player tries to bring the game as close as possible to the most desired look. It is thanks to this that the developers of numerous mods work tirelessly. However, do not forget that “the game is not rubber”. According to online guides, the game has its limits. In other words, if you install a huge number of mods, the memory contents will become full, which will lead to corruption of save files. When loading, script lines will “fall out” (literally) onto the screen.

It can be eliminated quite simply: just don’t get carried away with “wrapping” mods for your favorite game.

Another important but well-known global error, which has already become a tradition in all Bethesda games, is the so-called crashes. The problem occurs in 90% of players, but we cannot say that this is the norm. There are many versions of the origin of this problem: from template stamping of games by developers to individual settings of each player’s personal computer. Each opinion about the reasons for the bug has its own weight, but not every one claims to be true.

Mostly solved with the Skyrim Memory Patch.

Don’t get carried away with installing mods, it’s better to choose the most necessary and most important.

If there is no translation of the add-on, it is advisable to download a fan translation; there are very high-quality versions.

During the game, it is not recommended to change the order of mods or delete them, since after loading saves, problems with the game may occur due to the fact that the script expander will request missing modifications that included scripts. Before “wrapping” the game with mods, it is recommended to save the configurations in a separate folder, thus creating a point of return. If the game is still damaged by mods, it is better to resort to a restore point.

If you have official add-ons installed (Dragonborn, Dawnguard or Hearthfire), you should look for mods that provide them.

To install some modifications, a special mod manager is required; without it, the game will not work correctly.

A few nuances when installing modifications

The installation manager is usually stored in the fomod folder. If the archive contains this folder, this is a hint about how to install the mod.

And yet, how to install SkyUI on Skyrim? Most mods are installed in the Skyrim\Data folder. In any case, it is advisable to thoroughly study the description in the readme file, especially if the mod needs to be installed in some other location.

If you can’t connect the plugin (esp/esm) either through “Files” in the launcher or through the mod manager, it is recommended to open the SkyrimPrefs.ini file using notepad and write the line bEnableFileSelection=1 in the section.

When downloading mods, you should pay attention to the RU mark, this is how Russian-language mods or Russifiers are designated.

You should understand the structure of the game files:

  • The Meshes folder contains the models used in the game.
  • Scripts - here are the scripts used in mods.
  • The SKSE section contains archived files of modifications developed for the script expander.
  • The Sound folder contains the sounds of nature and everything that can produce sound in the game. Yes, there are separate mods that provide for changing the sound in the game.
  • Strings - documents containing texts of the game itself or mods.
  • The Textures folder stores graphic textures. There are a number of global modifications that involve processing images, called “retexture mods”.
  • The Video catalog contains videos and screensavers of the game.

Conclusion

It should be noted that in order to enjoy the game “wrapped” with mods, you need to understand how it all works and what is required for installation. The requirements for the game are as follows:

  • Availability of a licensed version of Skyrim and official add-ons: Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn.
  • The game version must be 1.9.32 or higher.
  • Availability of a mod manager (different mod makers offer different versions of these programs; which one to use is up to the player to choose).
  • It is advisable to have software that detects the presence of incompatible mods and broken plugins (usually LOOT or BOSS are used).
  • Of course, the SKSE script extender.
  • And, of course, a general understanding of the meanings and functions of each installed mod.

Do not forget that a large number of mods will lead to increased system requirements. Therefore, if suddenly the game begins to freeze in places where this has not previously been observed, you should think about optimizing the gameplay according to the capabilities of a personal computer. Because of this, a number of players still prefer the classic version of the game rather than using Skyrim SkyUI.

The main interface in Skyrim is aimed more at the console than at the keyboard + mouse. Luckily, the modders have done a great job of taking care of this issue.

The SkyUI mod completely rebuilds and modernizes inventory, magic, alchemy, and blacksmith menus. Long story short - you can now use your mouse to navigate around everything without any problems. Changes made to this mode include not only the interface, but also the map, which now has a text search option.

The mod also changes some gameplay elements by adding active effect icons to the screen. In the base version of Skyrim, you need to open the magic menu to check your active effects - now you can see them at any time.

The entire interface is now much clearer and can be easily browsed - the mod allows you to sort by name, type, weight or price for example, and each item and spell has a separate icon.

The note! The mod is only available for "standard" Skyrim.

Installation instructions:

  1. Download the SkyUI mod (for wooden ones free download)
  2. The mod can be installed either using the Nexus Mod Manager or manually by moving the mod files to the Data folder in the main game folder.
  3. The mod requires Skyrim Script Extender to work properly. Here you can find the installer for this tool.
