Hello again!

An insanely long time has passed since our last publication, dedicated to the revival of the Russian Pro-assembly K-meleon. Of course, many will perceive our news with irony and inevitable grins.

Alas, the development of K-Meleon has stagnated for a number of objective reasons, the main one of which is dependence on a single developer. Our “father-developer” Dorian had several problems in a row, which had a very negative impact on development, coupled with violent revolutions in the code Mozilla engine, about which the community has long been buzzing and now continues to only quietly howl.

However, this is not to say that development has stopped completely - our build is based on code released in December 2016. True, this is still a release candidate of the 76th version, based on Gecko 38 ESR, so the browser has obviously become an old-fashioned toolkit, relevant for owners of outdated and weak equipment.

No, it still works great on modern equipment, but modern web design is rapidly bringing down on us more and more new features of popular sites (often written contrary to all web standards), which browser developers simply HAVE to support. Because why should they (even people like Google) butt heads with the same Facebook - it’s more expensive for themselves. Please insert a crutch into the code.

Nevertheless, the 76th version of our browser is quite a workhorse, mastering the vast majority of sites. And in some places we are already using our crutches.

But enough of the preludes: we are presenting a new Russian Pro build, and I will tell you about its main features. As before, our builds are aimed at making K-Meleon as user-friendly, functional and convenient product.

Traditionally, they contain a lot of additional functionality that makes life easier for users.
But above all, we have maintained the tradition of providing each new large version of our builds with a new face. This time it's a specially modified Pinstripe skin that looks something like this:

Let's move on to it.

1) For placement additional functions we created new item the “Pro” menu, where commands responsible for new functions will be placed. Something similar (and very sophisticated) was in different builds of the old Opera (for example, Opera LE). Everything here is modest for now, but it is this menu that will grow in the future. Also, items in this menu may be duplicated in those relevant for a particular feature. context menus.

2) We have moved to this menu some features that were already available in the previous Pro build - for example, opening a link in a new application (previously it was called “Open in another browser”, but since it can transfer the link to any program, capable of receiving links directly, we renamed it). In addition to browsers, it is very convenient to add here, for example, media players for playing audio and video files.

From the old days, this menu now contains settings for IE tabs and the choice of a download manager (good old oGet).

3) Now the actual new chips. Firstly, this is a tool for bypassing blocking UltraSurf. Performed through the integration of a third-party application of the same name.
It turns on with a button and turns off with the same button. Also UltraSurf will be automatically closed when leaving K-Meleon.

It does not require any (!) additional movements or settings, it works in the background without being visible, but just in case it is equipped with help, shown automatically when first launched, and then on demand (via the menu or by hotkey).

4) HTML5 media switch. This extension quickly deactivates the html5 media player, allowing those who wish (we know there are some) to force the switch to a flash player. Oldfag so oldfag!

5) There are also commands here for quick translation pages using Google and Yandex. This functionality is also duplicated in the context menus of the page, link and frame.

6) Video saver - a means of integrating services for saving videos posted on various sites - from the classic YouTube to RuTube and Twitter (because on Twitter itself, the video is played only in the most mainstream browsers - such garbage).

In general, the 76th branch, although formally a release candidate, has been used in the community for a long time. And since the Pro-assembly enjoys noticeable - by the standards of a niche little-known product - popularity ( latest version 75.10 Pro has been downloaded more than 30,000 times), now Russian-speaking users (and not only - we also have an English Pro build ready) have a great reason to upgrade. The main thing is that in the 76th version there is no malicious leaked previous version a bug that crashed the browser on Cyrillic domains.

And the news of the year was certainly that Yandex noticed us - and in this build we are conducting a joint experiment with the search engine to integrate their search into our browser.

For now, this cooperation is purely research in nature. There is no monetization in this, but whether it is possible will only show life cycle our new build, K-Meleon 76 Pro.
For now, it is published (like its official database) in release candidate status. As the testing progresses, the necessary corrections and additions will be made to it.
