Remote control systems. Chrome Remote Desktop

Free solutions

Remote control involves connecting to another computer to gain access and manage resources. Thanks to this feature, the user can solve many additional tasks remotely: provide consultations, diagnostics, computer monitoring. Thus, tasks are simplified that are often impossible or irrational to perform at a distance.

As part of the review, 10 solutions (6 free and 4 paid) for remote management will be considered. The main attention will be paid to the following features of the software of the selected category:

  • Contents: what components are included in the distribution, types of installation on the host and client computer
  • Connection modes: supported protocols, working with RDP (see below)
  • Presentation functions: this means the possibility of audio and video accompaniment, screen capture, the presence of additional tools (“pointer”, “drawing board”, etc.)
  • Security: supported encryption technologies, storage of confidential data, types of authorization on local and remote computers, availability of necessary settings
  • Platform support: mobile platforms and OS, online version available.

Will not be ignored standard features Windows, namely the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), which will be discussed first. At the end of the review - comparison table with detailed availability information necessary functions in the mentioned applications.

RDP - Windows Remote Desktop Protocol

Beginning with Windows NT, Remote Desktop Protocol support has been provided. RDP table (Remote Desktop Protocol). Accordingly, Windows 7 offers the user RDP 7 (an update is also available for Windows XP), Windows 8 - RDP 8 (also available for Windows 7 SP1). The capabilities of the current version, RDP 8, will be reviewed.

Connecting to a remote worker is carried out using the mstsc.exe application, after entering the name of the remote computer. Connection parameters are also available in this dialog.

In the “Screen” tab, the remote desktop resolution is indicated (with the ability to enable full screen mode), color depth (up to 32 bits).

In the “Local Resources” section you can select the audio playback mode (remote or current computer), enable audio recording from the remote desktop. This section also configures access to the printer, local disk, disk drive, PnP devices, ports.

The quality of data transmission is regulated in the “Interaction” tab. You can not only select a connection profile, but also independently determine the display parameters: desktop background, anti-aliasing, visual effects,Image Caching. All these options affect the speed of data transfer during remote access and can significantly optimize network traffic.

Security settings are available through the System component (System Properties in Control Panel). In the “Remote Access” tab, you can allow Remote Assistance connections, as well as remote connections to your computer. Authentication is performed at the network level. You can also limit access by specifying a list of allowed remote desktop users yourself.

Thus, Windows provides basic tools for working with RDP protocol. But, as expected, advanced security settings, support for mobile platforms, and presentation functions are not offered to the user.

Teamviewer

TeamViewer is perhaps the most famous free remote control program. The toolkit allows you to establish remote access to your home computer, manage your desktop from various platforms and devices, and administer Windows server. In addition, developers highlight corporate TeamViewer features: The program can be used to organize conferences, consultations and help colleagues at work.

TeamViewer is available for Windows, Linux, Mac platforms (with restrictions), remote access from OS-based devices is possible. TeamViewer client full version distribution kit (“All in one”), as system service(TeamViewer Host), in portable format, on terminal server and other options. It is worth highlighting the TeamViewer QuickSupport module, which does not require installation and is optimal for performing urgent tasks.

The full version of the program has client and operator parts available. The TeamViewer interface is represented by a main window with two tabs - “Remote control” and “Conference”.

Remote control

The user receives a unique ID to identify the computer on the network and a temporary password. Also, using the partner's ID (optional IP address) and knowing his password, you can establish a connection to a remote device.

Three connection modes are available:

  • Remote control: remotely control the device or collaboration on one computer
All actions are performed on another computer through the remote control window. At the same time, it is possible to change the resolution and scaling, switch between active monitors and other options.
  • File Transfer: Share files during a session
To exchange data in TeamViewer, a two-panel file manager is used, in which host and client resources and basic file operations to work with them, such as: creating folders, deleting, copying, etc.
  • VPN: virtual network mode
You can set up a virtual private network between computers to provide public access to devices (printers, removable media and etc.).

Conferences

In this TeamViewer tab you can create a blitz conference or connect to an existing one. Among available tools You can note voice and video communication, screen sharing, session recording with the ability to convert to AVI. Whiteboard is used as a canvas for drawing, sketching, and commenting.

One of the undeniable conveniences of TeamViewer is the “Computers and Contacts” list, which provides fast access to devices. In addition, here you can monitor the network status of computers and exchange messages (group chat options are available). Looking ahead, it should be noted that not every review participant offers an address book for quickly connecting to other devices.

For security purposes, the program uses encryption of sessions (AES 256 bit) and traffic (RSA key exchange). Files transferred during the session are signed by VeriSign and the end user must consent to receipt. Through the TeamViewer settings, it is possible to restrict access: setting access to all operations only after confirmation or prohibiting outgoing sessions.

Summary

TeamViewer - universal solution possibility of choosing a remote control method. Thanks to its wide range of multimedia functions and convenient organization of contacts, the program is optimal for holding conferences.

Ammyy Admin

Ammyy Admin does not require installation and combines a simple interface and flexible functionality. The program is free and has no restrictions. home use. Distributed for Windows, Linux/FreeBSD platforms, mobile devices are not supported.

Client and operator modules are available in the main window. The user receives an ID that is generated in connection with the equipment. Optionally, you can use IP when connecting.

The client part can be activated or stopped, thereby prohibiting connections; By default, Ammyy Admin works in standby mode. You can track the connection status using indicators, the explanation of which is in.

There is an address book, contacts can be combined into groups, the order of contacts can be changed, and new addresses can be manually added. Network status computers, however, cannot be tracked.

The main connection modes include Desktop (remote desktop), File manager(File Manager) and Microsoft RDP. RDP allows you to connect to a remote desktop; standard Windows functions are provided.

Other modes include Voice Chat and Speed Test. Obviously, the multimedia capabilities here are not as fully presented as in TeamViewer: Ammyy Admin is not positioned as a kind of corporate solution. You can note the screen sharing function, which in combination with voice chat makes Ammyy Admin a program suitable for remote assistance.

By going to “Ammyy → Settings → Operator”, you can specify RDP parameters, select the encryption type and codec profiles, thereby reducing the load on the network. More importantly, the “Network” tab allows you to configure the Ammyy Admin connection, manually specify routers, enable or disable data transfer via global network Ammyy (Ammyy Worldwide Network).

The file manager is a two-panel one, through which standard file operations between the client and the operator are available.

In the access rights settings (“Client → Access Rights”), you can set separate parameters for each ID. The authentication mode (connection to a PC) is available to choose from: by Hardware ID, password or user permission. Thus, you can minimally protect your computer from unauthorized remote connections.

Summary

The main advantages of Ammyy Admin are its speed, simple and fast interface, relative independence from Ammyy servers and free of charge. This is probably not the most optimal solution for working in a team, but for individual use, with several computers at your disposal, it is quite possible.

Supremo Remote Desktop

Supremo Remote Desktop is a convenient portable tool for remote control and remote assistance to other users. Works under Windows control XP and higher, mobile devices are not supported.

The program starts without installation; to start working, the host and client must download Supremo Remote Desktop from the developer’s website. Traditionally, two operating modes are supported: using a computer as an access point and connecting to a remote device. In the first case, access is opened by pressing the Start button. In the Your credentials section, the data required for connection is available: ID and password generated at the beginning of the session. The client requests authorization when logging in (Ask authorization option), thereby preventing unauthorized access attempts to the computer.

To connect to the host, use the Your partner field; you can also select an address from the Address Book. The list of active connections is displayed in the Connections section of the main program window.

During transmission, the HTTPS (SSL) protocol is used, the data is encrypted. The security settings are poorly disclosed: you can set a password to launch the program and specify the IDs allowed for the connection.

Other tools available in Supremo Remote Desktop include multiple connections of users to one machine. To transfer files, a manager is used that is similar to the classic two-panel one; uploading and downloading files is available. There are no presentation or multimedia functions provided. This certainly limits the use of Supremo as a remote assistant.

Summary

Supremo Remote Desktop is an easy-to-use program that has a standard set of tools for remote control. Users who do not need multimedia functions may pay attention to it.

mRemoteNG

Talking about universal tools, allowing you to work with several protocols simultaneously, it is worth mentioning mRemoteNG. The program provides access to VNC, ICA, SSH, Telnet, RAW, Rlogin and HTTP/S, and also has RDP support. Distributed in a portable and standard version of the installer for the Windows platform.

The mRemoteNG interface is presented in several sections, there are panels, tabs - as a result, it is easy for the user to configure appearance programs in your own way. Basic options are available in the “Configuration” section. Here you can specify the protocol required for connection and related parameters: connection settings, protocol, gateway, appearance, resources and others. “Configuration” displays the host connection status.

Connection to devices is carried out through the quick connection panel - here it is easy to create several configurations, which, in the case of multiple protocols, is very convenient. Connections can be grouped and configurations can be easily imported/exported.

File transfer is carried out using the SSH protocol - which is not very familiar to the average user and at the same time, more reliable in terms of security. TO additional functions includes a port scanner, you can add external tools to the list.

The vagueness of mRemoteNG is striking. This is manifested in an unusual interface: it is not so convenient to work and configure with each specific protocol. In the connection configuration, many parameters are reduced beyond recognition - this can be attributed to the quality of localization. When trying to find a description of the functions, the documentation is silent, its sections are empty.

Summary

A notable feature of mRemoteNG is the combination of popular protocols into a single graphical shell. By setting up multiple connections, there is no need to use multiple specialized solutions. This plus to some extent compensates for the unintuitiveness of the program and the lack of documentation.

TightVNC

Homepage: http://www.tightvnc.com/

TightVNC Software develops several products: TightProjector, RFB Player, VNC Reflector and TightVNC. TightVNC is a program for remote control; it can be used to solve computer problems, educational purposes, and administration.

TightVNC is a cross-platform solution. For Linux, however, at the time of writing this review, only the old version of the program is available; Mac OS is not supported. However, there is a version of TightVNC available on the Java platform, which allows for remote control via a web server. On Windows platform, TightVNC is installed as normal application or as system service. “Silent” mode is supported, it is quite easy to transfer the configuration to other computers or update servers remotely.

The TightVNC toolkit is divided into two modules: WinVNC - a server part installed on a remote machine, and a Viewer application designed to view screen contents remote server. In the Viewer connection settings, the VNS server address and transmission speed are set.

It should be noted that TightVNC does not generate an access password; you need to define it yourself in the settings. The connection status can be recognized by the icon displayed in the notification area: if at least one user is connected to the computer, the colors of the icon change.

The developers hint that data transfer via VNC, despite the initial DES password protection, is imperfect. For security reasons, it is recommended to use SSH tunneling. At the same time, TightVNC settings reduce the likelihood of unauthorized access to zero. In future versions of the program it is also planned to introduce more reliable protection methods.

Summary

TightVNC surprises with a large number of settings regarding connection and security. This is a good choice for an administrator, but in terms of transfer to the server and further maintenance it is not the best option for an inexperienced user.

Remote Utilities

Remote Utilities is a solution, according to the developer, intended for small and medium-sized businesses. Remote control is possible directly, via a local network or the Internet. When working with a set of utilities, no firewall adjustments or preliminary configuration are required.

The complex works only under Windows; for Linux it is suggested to install Wine emulator- but only for working with RUT-Viewer. mobile version absent.

Remote Utilities consists of three modules: viewer - installed on the local computer, host - on the remote computer, agent - a module for supporting users. The agent, it should be noted, is optimal for quickly establishing communication between the client and the host. Remote installation, as well as updating, is simple, thanks to the Remote installation tool.

A connection in one of the above modes is made using the New connection dialog (Connection → Add Computer), you can specify an IP address, Internet ID or DNS as an access point. The connected computer is added to the list address book, from which the necessary devices are subsequently selected.

Provided standard tools for remote control, such as remote device manager, registry viewer, terminal and file manager. The manager is two-panel, with the ability to copy and move data, launch and open applications and documents on a remote host. Also available is terminal support and power control.

Text chat is quite simple, but be aware that Remote Utilities also offers audio/video chat for users. Here it is worth mentioning the ability to capture video and adjust the transmission quality - from 24-bit color transmission to an optimized “picture” for a network with limited transmission (in addition, there is a Network usage mode parameter in the Properties settings of the remote computer). In a word, there are those features that have been repeatedly listed in similar programs with RDP support.

Remote Utilities provides 3 types of authorization, AES encryption with 256-bit key, 2048-bit public key. Incoming connections are filtered by IP, and you can also create a list of trusted users with different access rights. The security subsystem is optional: you can choose RUT or WinNT. Both modes allow you to flexibly configure access to certain functions for each user; there are no significant differences between them.

Summary

A simple set of utilities for remote connection, without choosing a connection protocol, but extremely easy to install and configure. Essentially, there is a lack of cross-platform and user-friendly interface for simultaneous work with several devices.

[+] Remote installation and update in remote mode
[+] Availability of basic settings for RDP
[+] Work via local and Internet
[+] Free (for non-commercial use)

I only changed three jobs, but everywhere administrators use RAdmin or DameWare to perform any actions on a remote machine. These are really powerful programs that allow you to organize remote control, but they are not always needed. Very often you can get by using Windows tools and seriously save traffic. Today I will show you what and how you can do with a remote computer using windows.

Access rights

Before you start considering remote control, you need to decide on access rights. If your network is based on a controller Windows domain NT/2000/2003, then by default the domain administrator has local administrator rights on all computers on the network. Do you want to make sure?

If you have a domain network, then launch the Computer Management snap-in on your computer. This can be done from Control Panel -> Administrative Tools or by right-clicking on My Computer and selecting the Manage menu. Here in the object tree on the left, select the section “Computer Management->Utilities->System-> Local users and groups->Groups" (Computer management->System tools->Local Users and Groups->Groups). A list of all groups should appear on the right. Double-click on the “Administrators” group and here in the list you will see in addition to your account(if you are a local admin, of course) also administrators
domain.

Viewing user groups through Computer Management

What do local god rights give to domain administrators? They have full control over your car (we'll see this later). If you don’t want someone messing around with your machine without your knowledge, urgently remove domain administrators from the local gods group. If you yourself are the god of your network, then you must control that users do not kick you out as local administrators on their computers.

If there is no domain network, then for remote control you need to know the administrator password of the computer you want to manage. Now, for the connection to be successful, set the same password for yourself, otherwise there may be problems with the connection.

Attention! You must have Windows from the Server or Professional series. On Windows XP Home Edition work in the domain is blocked. I heard that craftsmen seemed to be introducing Windows HE into the domain, but I haven’t tried it myself, so I can’t confirm this information.

I am my own god, and domain admins are not my authority

So, in order to be able to remotely control someone else’s car, you must have one of two things:

  1. You must be a domain administrator and at the same time on a remote machine you are a local god.
  2. You know the victim's admin password and set the same one for yourself.

If at least one of these conditions is met, remote control will be possible.

Registry

One of the common tasks that an administrator has to deal with is editing the registry and managing access rights to it. To correct the registry, it is not at all necessary to connect to a remote machine. Just run regedit on your computer and select the “Connect Network Registry” menu from the “File” menu. A window will appear in front of you in which you can select the computer whose registry you want to connect. Enter the computer name in the large input window and click OK. If you have necessary rights and the name is entered correctly, then another root branch will appear in the regedit window, in which there will be a registry of the remote car.

Connecting to a remote registry

Now we manage the remote registry in the same way as our own. I don’t know why many people use RAdmin to edit the registry, when the problem can be solved much easier and with great traffic savings.

Full control

For driving own computer We use the Computer Management snap-in, but for some reason many people don’t know about it. Through this snap-in you can also connect to the user’s machine and control it as if it were your own. We perform the following actions:

  1. Launch the snap-in.
  2. Select the first item in the object tree – “Computer Management” (local).
  3. Select the menu “Actions-> Connect to another computer”.

If the second step is not completed, the menu described in the third step will not be available!

Connecting to a remote computer

The Connect to Computer window will appear. There are two switches here - local computer and remote. Select the second option and enter the computer name. If you have sufficient rights, the connection will be successful.

Event Viewer

What can we do now? Yes, everything is the same as with local computer. Let's say that a blonde calls you... Stop, let's not get personal, because not all blondes are like in the jokes. My wife is also blonde... But here I will definitely remain silent.

In short, a user calls you (we don’t specify gender and hair color) who is not fluent in English and reports that Windows or another program is swearing in English. The user's attempts to read the message do not lead to anything good. Well, okay, let’s connect using the Computer Management snap-in and look at system messages in the event branch “Utilities->View” (System tools->Event Viewer). There are three subsections here:

Viewing Windows system messages

  • Applications - here various applications leave their warnings and error messages.
  • Security - here the system leaves its messages related to security - changing passwords, locking, and so on. If the user cannot log into their computer, then connect and look at the message in the security log. Perhaps the messages will help you quickly solve the problem, and at the same time save a ton of traffic.
  • System - this is where the system leaves its messages. According to my observations, messages are mainly placed here at the OS boot stage, but they can also appear during operation.

Windows 2003 may have more partitions. For example, if you have replication, DNS and active directory installed, then the File Replication Service, DNS Server and Directory Service sections will appear respectively.

Ball control

To remotely control the balls, we will again need the Computer Management snap-in. Expand the branch “Utilities-> Shared Folders” (System tools-> Shared Folders). There are three folders here:

  1. Shared resources (shares) - open resources (folders or drives). To close one of the resources that the user opened due to his mistake, right-click on it and select stop sharing in the menu that appears. If you need to open a resource for users, right-click again and select the new share menu item. In this case, there should be nothing highlighted in the list of balls. Just don’t forget that you are connected to someone else’s computer and you need to specify the correct path specifically for it.
  2. Sessions - here you can monitor who is currently connected to this computer and how many resources are open.
  3. Open files - here they will show us which files or folders are open and by which user.

Open resources

Ball management can be used not only to control open resources in your local network, but also to view who is opening what on your computer. Do you even sometimes keep an eye on the open balls? No? But in vain. The admin at my work is the same bungler. As a programmer, I need god rights in the domain so that I can manage users directly, and our admin does not have domain administrators disabled from local gods. That's why I joke sometimes. Of course, I don’t look at someone else’s disk, because I don’t have such a bad habit, but the field of activity for jokes is quite large.

Snickersney!

When they tell me that the server is slow, I am in no hurry to connect to it remotely via RAdmin, because this will still give a bad result from a diagnostic point of view. The RAdmin program is not a magician and cannot sit in the system without eating up resources, especially network resources, so it is difficult to calculate the real performance, taking into account the minus processor costs for servicing the program. Because of such a remote connection, an extra load falls on the network drivers, but you still need to run some kind of diagnostic tool.

Isn't it better to run the diagnostic utility on your computer and connect to a remote machine? Of course, it’s better, and this can be done using our favorite/not favorite (cross out unnecessary) Windows. Go to “Control Panel”, then “Administration” and launch the “Performance” snap-in. In the tree on the left, select “System Monitor” and enjoy the performance graphs. By default, we will be shown the status of three parameters - memory (pages exchanged per second), disk (disk queue length) and processor load. Everything is very clear, because each parameter is drawn with a line of its own color.

You can also monitor performance remotely

Damn it! These are the parameters of my computer, and we need to monitor the server named MainServer. No problem. Checkers are drawn, and press the Ctrl+I button. A window for adding a counter will open in front of you. Please note that at the top there is a switch - “Use local counters or select counters from the computer.” If you select the second option, you can enter the name of the computer whose parameters we are interested in.

After this, we need to decide on the parameter that we want to control. In the drop-down list, select an object, and just below we specify which parameter you want to control. If some parameter is not clear, do not hesitate to click the “Explain” button and use the hint. Advanced admins should also sometimes use hints, there is nothing wrong with that. If you are shy, cover the monitor with your hand or turn it so that no one can see. When you decide and select what you need, click the “Add” button.

The Performance snap-in provides graphical representation of any parameter

Based on personal observations, I have never seen anyone use this equipment even for local monitoring, let alone a remote machine. Most admins prefer to go to the server or connect via RAdmin and press the treasured three letters, that is, Ctrl+Alt+Del and monitor the performance here. I don't understand why this is? Yes, three keys are easier to press, but there is very little information there to make any conclusions about real performance. And if you consider how many calories it takes to physically approach the server to press keys, you understand why admins are thin, despite eating hamburgers. Performance snap-in
It demonstrates data during remote monitoring much more informatively, more conveniently and more clearly.

Sometimes complaints come that some service is closed or it was not set to autostart at all, but then it was suddenly needed. To correct the situation and do it effectively, you need to connect to to a remote dispatcher services And the most interesting thing is that Windows snap-ins can do this. First, services can be managed through Computer Management. We have already looked at this snap-in, and it has a section “Services and Applications” -> “Services”.

Connecting to a remote machine in the Services snap-in

Or you can use the more familiar “Services” snap-in, which is located in “Control Panel” -> “Administration”. Launch this snap-in and select the menu “Action” -> “Connect to a remote computer”. A window should open in front of you to select a computer. We've already seen this window somewhere. I think further comments on service management are unnecessary.

Moving on

As you can see, a lot can be done without downloading traffic-hungry RAdmin or DameWare utilities. Use Windows snap-ins, because they are quite convenient and effective not only in local setup, but also remotely. And most importantly, the built-in utilities are already installed and will not cost you anything, i.e. absolute freebie! Well, isn't this happiness!

Most of these snap-ins can work not only with local but also with remote machines

I only talked about the basic equipment that I use for remote management and monitoring in my network/domain. But this is not the limit. Most of the snap-ins that you can see in “Control Panel” -> “Administration” can work remotely with other computers. It makes no sense to consider them all, because the principle of operation is almost the same everywhere - select the menu “Action” -> “Connect to a remote computer”. In this regard, only the performance monitoring snap-in is different. But trying to describe everything would take a lot of time, because in Windows 2003, with the active directory installed and all services installed, the administration panel is simply overcrowded.
That is why I limited myself to the basic system parameters that we use most often and that may be useful to you.

Windows 2003 has even more snap-ins. Their number depends on installed services, but I don’t have AD installed yet

To control them remotely from your computer, you will also have to install Windows 2003 so that the same equipment will be in your car. If you don’t want to keep such a monster at home, then the equipment can be transferred to Windows Professional or use third-party utilities that provide remote control.

Bottom line

Finally, I want to talk about one instructive program link. Recently I saw a Russian-made program that can scan a network for the presence of computers, place the found computers on a form, scan ports, ping and control a remote computer. Remote management includes working with the registry, viewing shared services and users, and a couple more parameters. In short, the remote control capabilities are primitive, the program is terrible, and network scanners, port scanners and pinger scanners can be found on the Internet and completely free.

Do you know how much this program costs? You won't believe it - over $100. I won’t tell you the exact amount so you don’t faint, because it costs more than Windows Home Edition! No, I don’t scold the developer for his arrogance, I admire him. If the program actually sells and makes a profit, then the developer is great, and the admins who pay money for it have been and will remain suckers. Study the capabilities of Windows and you will save a lot of money and time, and you won’t be scammed like a lamer into primitive and unnecessary program, standing as an entire operating system.

Good luck, and see you again.

Remote computer control is a connection from one PC to another via a local or Internet network and control of the device at a distance from several meters to several thousand kilometers. This software is used primarily by programmers to correct errors made by employees of various companies when working with programs.

However, you can use programs that provide remote access for non-corporate purposes. After all, situations often arise when you need to help parents or simply inexperienced friends figure out some of the nuances of how a computer works, but doing this over the phone can be very problematic. This is where a computer control program comes to the rescue. You can connect through a remote computer and do everything necessary, clearly showing what to do next time.

Programs for remote control of computers on a PC

There are many programs that allow remote access. Despite the fact that they all perform the same functions, the software has very significant differences. Of course, it is unlikely that it will be possible to cover all the programs, because new products appear every now and then, and those that could not win the trust of users disappear. Therefore, below we will present a rating of programs for remote computer control. The top is compiled according to user opinions, i.e. based on the number of downloads of a particular product.

The top programs for remote computer control via a PC are represented by the following developments:

  1. TeamViewer.
  2. Radmin.
  3. UltraVNC.
  4. Splashtop.
  5. Supreme.

TeamViewer

TeamViewer is one of the most popular programs among users. Tagline of this product sounds like “All in one!” The program is easy to use and completely free for non-commercial use.

One of the advantages of TeamViewer is that the product does not have to be downloaded and installed on a PC; the program is available for use online. For those who decide to download the program to their computer, downloading and installing the program will also not cause difficulties and will not take much time.

After launching, the program will display a window with the computer ID and password for the possibility of remote connection to it, and a second window that allows you to connect to other PCs by entering their data. This software is used as a program for managing and monitoring a remote computer.

The advantages of the development include:

  • several operating modes (remote connection, demonstration, file transfer and chat);
  • free use for personal purposes;
  • Possibility of round-the-clock access to a remote computer;
  • high speed;
  • simple and intuitive interface;
  • the ability to install utilities to expand functionality.

The program also has disadvantages: the program does not always cope with long sessions and is not suitable for administering several computers. To correct these shortcomings you will have to buy additional modules. True, when used for personal purposes, such software shortcomings are hardly noticeable.

In general, the software is great for private use and short-term sessions, but will not satisfy all the needs of programmers who administer entire computer networks.

Radmin

Radmin is a program for remote computer management, which was at the peak of popularity ten years ago. But despite the decline in popularity, the software still occupies a certain place in the market and remains one of the best in this field. The development is paid, but the developers provide the opportunity to take advantage of a 30-day trial period.

The program itself consists of two parts: Server and Viewer. Server runs on the computer to which the connection is made, and Viewer - on the one from which it will originate. You can download the program from the developers’ website in full or in parts; there is also an online version of Viewer. There is also Radmin Server 3.5 NTI - a program for remote hidden control computer.

Unlike TeamViewer, Radmin does a great job of managing a large computer network, and is therefore perfect for a company's IT department. Also, the advantages of the program include a high level of security, the presence of chat (text and voice), prompt search and troubleshooting on the PC. There is also a minus: the development is quite complex, so only an experienced user can cope with it.

As a result, Radmin is the exact opposite of TeamViewer. The product is great for IT departments of companies with branches in different cities, but is not entirely convenient for use by individuals.

UltraVNC

According to users, UltraVNC is the most intelligent program for remote computer control among free developments. Just like Radmin, this software is divided into two parts (UltraVNC Viewer and VNC server), respectively, for the computer from which they are connecting, and for the one to which they are connecting. There is also a VNC client that combines both parts.

The UltraVNC program is one of the most secure among those listed. The development is very convenient and easy to understand when creating a simple connection. There is also advanced functionality that will require a high level of knowledge to use.

In general, the program is suitable for any type of user. Beginners who just understand the basics of setting up remote access will be able to easily connect to another computer using the UltraVNC program, and professionals, with a little digging, will be able to find the widest range of functions among all the programs presented in the top.

Splashtop is the newest of the programs presented, but it has already become one of the most popular. According to developer statistics, the program has already been installed by more than 15 million users around the world.

What is the reason for such popularity? Splashtop is a progressive application that allows the user not only to configure the computer remotely, but also to use absolutely all of its functions (play games, watch movies, use applications, etc.).

As for the interface, Splashtop is very simple and easy to use. The software also boasts high speed data transmission. It is possible to administer a computer network, although only up to five devices. Splashtop is suitable for any device and operating system.

The development has only one big disadvantage. This is not a program for remotely controlling a computer via the Internet; access is only possible through a local network.

Supreme

Supremo is a great copy of TeamViewer with a little bit of Radmin and completely free access. In this development, almost everything, from design to settings, is borrowed from TeamViewer. The only significant difference is the need to allow the connection on both sides, that is, the computer to which they are connecting must give consent (by clicking the button and “Start”), otherwise the session will end. The Supremo program is one of the simplest and most understandable on the Internet, in addition, it has very effective protection.

Just like Radmin, Supremo is great for working with large computer networks. However, unlike Radmin, it does not require complex settings when connecting, which makes it suitable not only for administration, but also for one-time use.

There is only one significant drawback - the software only works with Windows. Any other operating system is incompatible with development.

To summarize, we can say that Supremo is the best program for remote computer control. The software has its drawbacks, but they will be noticeable only to the most experienced users who need the most complex functions remote connection.

Programs for remote control of computers on Android

Today, you can set up a remote connection to a computer not only from another PC, but also from a phone or tablet to Android system. And vice versa, there is a program for remote control of Android from a computer. Of course, the choice of software here is not so great due to the novelty of the function itself. There are only three programs for remotely controlling a computer via Android.

Logmein

Logmein is a powerful application with a wide range of functions that allows you to access not only your computer desktop, but also your file system. The program for remote control of computers has a simple, intuitive interface, even despite the lack of Russian translation. The data transfer speed is very high for a mobile application.

The disadvantages of the application can be called slow loading interface and the need to install a client on a PC to connect remotely (the client for the computer has been translated into Russian). Another disadvantage is that the program is paid, but it is possible to use a trial period of 14 days.

Parallels Access

Another app with a two-week free trial is Parallels Access. Among its main advantages are:

  • simple and really beautiful interface;
  • a huge number of different functions;
  • high speed (both work and transmission);
  • easy connection;
  • built-in file manager.

It was not possible to identify any significant disadvantages of the application. The only thing that can scare you off is the payment, but it is also very acceptable here.

Chrome Remote Desktop

Remote worker Chrome table is a very simple application for setting up remote access. Even a beginner can figure out the setup.

The set of functions here is very meager. The graphics in the application leave much to be desired, but Google's creation boasts the fastest connection speed of any application. In addition to the application itself, you will need a browser to work. Google Chrome.

In general, the development cannot be called very good. The emphasis here is on speed and simplicity, and the software definitely copes with this. The Android app is free.

Security when working with remote access

Remote access is very useful feature, but it can also harm the device, so if you have a program on your PC for remote control of computers, you should follow the safety rules.

Firstly, a good antivirus with the latest updates must be installed on your computer or tablet. You should not accept unknown or potentially unsafe files.

Secondly, do not forget that many of the presented applications allow you to connect to your computer without permission. So don't leave the app running offline if you're not using it. this moment. Be sure to disable the activation feature when loading Windows.

If the program is blocked unauthorized connections, you should not allow connections to unknown users.

Many computer owners would like to have full control over their terminal at home, for example through another computer or mobile device. There are several ways to gain remote access to your computer via the Internet. We will talk about them now.

Accessing a remote computer via the Internet: how does it work?

The Internet is a very funny thing. The fact is that the World Wide Web, as it is sometimes called, works in such a way that it even allows you to use the computing capabilities of any terminal. It is not surprising that connecting to any computer is not difficult. All you need to know is the external IP address.

The remote system performs verification and connects to the source. It looks like connecting to a computer without using wired connections. But not all users of Windows systems know how to establish remote access to a computer via the Internet. This can be done using several simple methods. First, let's look at the features of the OS itself.

Windows Tools

The easiest way to connect remote access to a computer via the Internet is through the “Control Panel”, in which you need to select viewing system properties. This section has a remote access tab, where you should check the box next to the permission line.

Here it is worth paying attention to the fact that you will have to use additional settings that are required.

How to remotely access a computer via the Internet: initial settings

The very first thing is to enable Remote Assistance (this will save you from problems in the future). For this purpose the corresponding line is used. Why do this? Only because this is how the connection will be added to the Windows Firewall exceptions list.

In addition, in the remote “Desktop” section, the connection also needs to be allowed, and then you need to select users who have the right to control the terminal from the outside. If automatic settings are applied, access to the remote computer via the Internet will be activated for six hours.

IP address

Now you need to find out the external address, without which all connection attempts will be null and void. To do this you should run command line(cmd in the “Run” console, which is called via the Win + R combination).

In the window that appears, enter ipconfig and write down the address (in Windows 10 you can copy it, in Windows 7 - not). Next, open a connection to the remote “Desktop” on the remote terminal and enter the address. If there is an Internet connection, the connection will be established automatically after verification.

If the remote terminal has a password, you will need to enter it. If desired, you can configure some additional parameters.

Setting up a terminal server

Initially, some unofficial versions of the OS may have problems recognizing the identifier. To solve the problem, you will have to download a special utility in the form of the internetidadmin.exe file. You need to install the program on both computer terminals.

Next, you can configure remote access to your computer via the Internet as follows. First, click on the host icon that appears in the system tray and select connection settings from the menu. This procedure is performed on the terminal from which you will access another PC. The identifier will appear in the window for receiving a new ID.

Next, on the computer that you want to monitor, you need to run the program in “Client” mode. After this, we start creating a new connection, give it a name and enter the previously identified ID. After this, the connection mode via identifier is simply selected. And in a couple of minutes the connection will be established.

Power supply

Remote access to a computer via Internet Windows although it can provide, its own scheme nevertheless appears incomplete. The problem is that going into sleep mode can block the connection.

Disable this parameter you can in the power supply diagram, which can be accessed from the “Control Panel”, and on laptops - use the click menu on the battery charge indicator.

Undocumented settings

You can also delve into the system registry if you use the HKLM branch, go to CurrentControlSet and search for the TerminalServer directory there, in which you need to find the RDP-Tcp and PortNumber settings. The port should be set to a value greater than 1024 (preferably in the range from 49152 to 65535, although this is not necessary).

After this, you need to open port 3389 and add an address ending in 5500 to the exclusion list (at the beginning there may be 192.168, as for a router).

RDP clients

Remote access to a computer via the Internet can also be configured using special applications, called RDP clients (from the English abbreviation Remote Desktop). That is, programs of this type are the middle link between the computer from which access is made and the remote terminal with the boot output to the standard “Desktop”.

Programs for remote access to a computer via the Internet are very unique. Some of them work in authorization mode, some involve the use of registration. It’s worth noting here that quite often you are prompted to enter a password based on the user account. It's a virus. No application should require an “account”.

TeamViewer

You can access a remote computer via the Internet using TeamViewer utilities, which is most often used in computer games and implies online communication between players of the same team. Setting up access to a remote computer via the Internet using this program is very simple.

At the first stage, you will need to enter the computer name and access password, if provided. Next, a window will appear asking you to create an account. In principle, you can refuse this. Next, the computer ID will be scanned, which may take several minutes.

After this, in the program window you need to set the ID of the terminal to be connected, enter a password, if required, and click the button to connect to a partner.

Remote access to a computer via the Internet (“Android” systems)

You can also access any OS from Android devices quite simply. The main thing is to have the Google Chrome browser on both your computer and your smartphone or tablet.

The application can be downloaded from Play Market. You can install it on your computer in a standard way, downloading the distribution even from an unofficial source. Having a Chrome RDP client is a must.

One more point is worth noting here. If you want to use remote access to someone else's computer via the Internet, you will have to use so-called sniffers. Among these programs you can find online and offline utilities. In the first case, you can simply send a letter to the desired client with an attachment in the form of a photo, which will contain malicious code, although it is enough to install a program like VNC Scanner GUI to determine the external IP.

Many users do not know that it is with the help of this program that you can access a remote computer over the Internet. The application works based on port scanning (not IP addresses). IP addresses corresponding to open terminal ports will be detected automatically.

What to prefer?

As a conclusion, we can suggest using the programs described above. TeamViewer is perfect for controlling a remote terminal from another computer, but to gain access to the same laptop from a mobile device based on Android OS you will have to use the RDP client from Google. Of course, you will also need to install a web browser, but there is nothing wrong with that. It takes up minimal space, and, as they say, it will come in handy around the house, especially since latest version differs in rather high speed.

Naturally, when using all connection options, you should pay attention to the power supply configuration so that the remote computer does not suddenly turn off and go into sleep mode. Particular attention should be paid to laptops. In them, you will need to rearrange the options for operating the lid, since by default closing it puts the device into hibernation mode.

Among other things, if you plan to run resource-intensive applications remotely, you should also decide on the speed of your Internet connection. This is especially true for multimedia in all its forms. Judge for yourself, because video or audio processing consumes quite a lot random access memory, and also has a direct impact on the CPU load.

Finally, do not forget that the blocking of port 3389 by the Windows firewall must be removed. You may also have to open a port on the router (router) or do port forwarding. However, this applies to specific models like Zyxel. On the most common models like TP-Link or D-Link, you don’t need to do anything like this.

And, of course, to gain control over a remote terminal from another computer, you need to have administrator rights. Otherwise, nothing will work (the system simply will not allow you to log in). If a password is set on the remote computer, you will have to enter it as well. Again, this should be the password that applies to the account you are currently logging in under. And it’s also worth considering the fact that not all programs can be launched without administrator rights. Therefore, it is advisable to log into the remote system using just such an “account”.

It remains to add that if access is provided from a mobile device, for example, to a home terminal, you need to check compatibility for performance, because it is not a fact that a mobile device will be able to process a program running under Windows. But, as a rule, there are usually no problems with this. If everything is done correctly and the connection is established, everything will work like clockwork. This applies to both computer and mobile devices, despite the difference in technical equipment (meaning “hardware”). The operating system itself, under which the connection occurs, by and large does not play a role.

In general, everything is not as complicated as it might seem at first glance. The main thing is to take into account a few basic points when setting up the connection. That's all. How will access be made (using the operating system or using a third-party software), everyone decides for himself. But, in principle, in order not to create problems for yourself out of the blue, it is better to use the system’s tools. This is both simpler and more reliable.

Many who are faced with the problem of the inability to control (or administer) their computer remotely and in real time do not even imagine the existence remote administration. Frankly, until recently I also did not know about the existence of such a thing. Let's shed light on some subtleties regarding this issue.

Remote administration

So, as mentioned above, remote administration allows you to gain remote access to a specific computer (for example, via the Internet or LAN) and gives you the opportunity to manage your personal computer on distance.

In fact, remote administration is a new opportunity to make your work as comfortable and high-quality as possible, all the time being “online”, distributing your work schedule, consulting with colleagues and making effective adjustments at work moments.

Remote administration provides the user with almost complete control over the remote computer; in fact, for this purpose, remote administration programs are created that make it possible to manage the desktop, copy and delete files, run applications, etc., while being at a distance.

Remote administration programs

Remote administration programs are currently the most popular. Due to their accessibility to the average user, they are mostly free, support work with all popular operating systems, for smartphones, and in general have long been a “save” for all advanced users. Forgot to download/move a file on your work computer - remote administration will help you. Other actions are required, including changing pictures from the desktop - no problem. The interface is easy to understand for most users, whether they are experienced PC users or not. There are two types of interface: visual and console, so there can be no problems with it. Each of the two types will be discussed in more detail below.

The visual interface gives more possibilities in terms of graphics; Using high-quality pictures allows you to find a particular folder, template or photo much faster. The visual interface is ideal for people who consider themselves not the most experienced PC or smartphone users. Quite often the visual interface is simplified to the maximum.

The console interface has more features, available to the user. According to experienced users, it is more productive and has text strings, allowing you to specify a fairly wide range of commands in a minimum amount of time. The console interface is ideal for embedded system applications, is less expensive and certainly does not require special software.

There are a lot of programs for remote administration, the most famous are:

  • Radmin
  • AnyDesk
  • Team Viewer
  • Windows RDP
But naturally, it is best to work with a team of specialists who can help with the correct remote administration settings and software setup in general.

Remote Linux administration

Let's turn our attention to remote administration of Linux. Linux is the general name for Unix-like operating systems based on the kernel of the same name. Currently, Linux is leading the market in smartphones, Internet servers, data centers and enterprises, etc. Linux does not require a ton of system or other software and has an excellent set of features that speak for themselves.

The editors hope that the information offered above will allow you to handle remote administration programs more easily. After all, they were invented for our convenience. We wish you good luck; for all questions regarding the purchase of remote administration programs, you can find answers to the links provided in the text.
