How to install Windows 7 on Lenovo

Lenovo Ideapad is a line of budget all-in-one laptops. Depending on the modification, the operating system can be Free Dos, Windows 10 Home, Windows 8/64, or no OS at all.

But not every modern user likes the modern developments of operating system providers, and many want to use the familiar Windows 7.

If the modification of your Lenovo laptop has a CD drive and you have an installation disk with the OS you need, then following the instructions of the setup wizard you should not have any problems with the installation.

But, if there is no disk drive, then you must have the Windows 7 boot sector on the USB drive. This could be a flash drive or an external hard drive.

How to install Windows 7

Make sure that the version you want to install is 64-bit. This is important because you simply won’t find the necessary drivers for a 34-bit one.

The manufacturer has set the boot order in such a way that the operating system will boot only from the internal hard drive, so you need to disable protection and change the settings in the BIOS.

To start the BIOS mode, after turning on the device or rebooting, after waiting 1-2 seconds, when the Lenovo manufacturer logo appears on the screen, press the Fn + F2 keys several times. It is important to be in time before the OS loading itself begins. The F12 key allows you to move between sections, and the +/- keys are used to change menu items. The F5 and F6 keys are used to navigate between menu items.

If you are interested in the question of how to install Windows 7 on a Lenovo Ideapad 100-15IBY laptop, then there is a Novo key to open the BIOS menu; the manufacturer emphasizes that the computer must be turned off.

Also, depending on the laptop model, the key combinations may differ. Options include the Del, F2, or Esc keys.

In order to set the settings we need in the BIOS, select BIOS Setup.

Load Defauit Settings -> Yes

OS Optimized Defaults -> Win 7 OS

Go to the Boot menu item and set the following settings:

Boot Mode -> Legacy Support

Boot Priority -> Legacy First (instead of Uefi First)

USB Boot -> Enabled

We have canceled the default boot priority and set the parameters we need, now we need to return to the Exit menu item and save -> Saving Changes -> Yes.

The external USB drive should already be connected to your laptop. Now you need to go to the boot menu by pressing the F12 key or the Novo key and select Boot Menu, where your device will be displayed to install the OS. You need to select it and then Windows itself unpacks the files. Then you should select the full installation.

Next, you need to divide the workspace into sections using the "Create" button. Keep in mind that for full operation, it is better to leave at least 30 GB for the system. When you have finished dividing all the available space, you need to select the partition allocated for the system and click install. Follow the instructions of the setup wizard and feel comfortable using the familiar interface!

Increasingly, questions are appearing online about how Windows 7 is installed on Lenovo laptops. Moreover, people who encounter such a problem, in most cases, do not understand what the installation problems are related to. At the same time, their laptops are new, and there can be no breakdowns. But errors and blockers nevertheless arise. Today we will talk about how Windows is installed on laptops from the manufacturer Lenovo, since this is a very pressing problem.

The most common problems

If you ask everyone why they want to reinstall Windows on a laptop, then in most cases you will hear the answer that supposedly all new computers have “eight” by default, which is not always possible to get used to and which does not always suit the user with its “ sophisticated” gadgets. Much more convenient is the familiar “seven”, which is both easier to use and more convenient for solving specific problems. That is why on new laptops their owners decide to change the OS.

The most common problem when installing “Seven” on a Lenovo laptop is that the user cannot enter the BIOS system at all. Even schoolchildren know that in order to reinstall Windows, you should go into the basics of the computer - BIOS.

Other problems may arise during the installation process. We will dwell on them further.

Multiple installation paths

So, you cannot enter the BIOS, and you already have certain doubts about whether it is even available on Lenovo laptops. In fact, there is, only it is designed a little differently and the settings for a specific computer model need their own. But for some, the standard Fn+F10 command helps when starting Windows to enter the BIOS.

In order for you to see that treasured Bios window that opens, you should slightly prepare your equipment. First, the installation disk is inserted into the disk drive of the computer that is turned on. In our case, this is Windows 7. Then you must turn off the computer, disconnect it from the power and remove the battery. Yes, it sounds ridiculous, but in most cases it helps. So, After this, we return the battery to the place where it should be and turn on the laptop through the Novo button, which is located next to the start button.

During loading, you will see that you have entered the service menu. There, select the “Diagnostics” tab. From there you install “UEFI Software Settings”. Your computer will then notify you with a short message that it needs to restart. If you follow the recommendations of your equipment, then after a reboot the computer will automatically enter the BIOS.

Next you should find the Security section where you disable the SecuryBoot option. Next, in the main menu, look for the Startup tab. Now you need to arrange the disk loading order that the system will follow. To do this, in the Boot tab, find the computer’s hard drive (as a rule, it is designated as ATAHDD) and use the “+” key or the top arrow to raise this tab to the very top. There may also be a problem that the tab does not rise. Then it will do the opposite - lower the WindowBootManager tab to the very bottom. In second place in the list should be the name “ATAPICD1”, and after it the parameter from which .

After all these tricky manipulations, we go back and look for the UEFI\LegacyBoot tab and select the LegacyOnly parameter there. After you have saved using the F10 key, you can begin a standard system reinstallation.

The infamous Lenovo ideapad 300-15ibr laptop was remembered by customers for its ability to turn into a “brick” when certain UEFI settings are combined. Many, wanting to replace the pre-installed Windows 10 with Windows 7, set the parameters AHCI -> compatible, UEFI->legacy, which led to a software and hardware failure of the video subsystem (black screen) and obvious inoperability of the laptop. Nevertheless, this is not a reason to abandon the familiar OS of the seventh edition for the sake of the gluttonous and bulky “Ten”. The advantages of the latter are unlikely to be relevant here. The laptop has a rather old processor that does not differ in performance, and the laptop itself is not intended for games where the multimedia innovations of Windows 10 could be revealed. Another argument FOR installing Windows 7 is the presence of official drivers for the 64-bit platform. Their integration into the distribution will allow the system to boot in AHCI mode, thus the “dangerous” UEFI settings will remain untouched. The only item that will have to be disabled is SECURE BOOT.

To integrate drivers into the distribution, you can use the nlite software product, or install through the WinNTSetup program, which can “pick up” drivers from the folder during the alternative first stage of Windows 7 installation.

WinNTSetup program interface

After installing the system and driver package from the Lenovo website, there will be two uninstalled components in the device manager: the first - Lenovo Energy Management Driver, and second - Intel(R) Trusted Execution Engine Interface.

Thus, after all installations, the system becomes fully operational and stable.

Many users who bought laptops with Windows 8 pre-installed were never able to get used to this operating system. This is not surprising, the eight is very raw and there is a lot of unnecessary stuff in it. The Lenovo B50 30 laptop also has Windows 8 installed. If you decide to part with a licensed but inconvenient operating system and are thinking about installing Windows 7, then before inserting the disk you need to reconfigure the BIOS.

On Lenovo laptops there are two ways to enter the BIOS:

  1. Turn off the computer, then press the power button and immediately hold Fn and F2
  2. Turn off the computer, and use a needle or a paper clip to press the “system restore” button, which is located on the right in the area of the headphone outputs. (But I prefer the first method).

So, we are in Bios. Before installing Windows 7, you need to change a few things.

In the tab ExitOS OptimizedDefaults on Other OS

BootPriority- LegacyFirst

Well, that's all the settings. Exit the BIOS, saving the settings and proceed to install Windows 7

Yes, I almost forgot, drivers on the official Lenovo website are only available for Windows 64

The other day I was asked to install Windows 7 instead of Windows 8 on a Lenovo B590 laptop. As usual, I tried to enter the BIOS via F2, then through other keys and oops... it didn’t work. I had to dig around and find a way out, or rather an entrance. What I am happy to share with you today. On the Internet I also saw quite a lot of questions from those who wanted to change the “eight” to the “seven”, but everyone had problems entering the BIOS.

How to enter BIOS on a Lenovo laptop

First, turn on the laptop and insert the Windows 7 disk into the drive. Turn it off, remove the battery, and disconnect the power from the laptop. We put the power in place and start the laptop from the button NOVO. This is such a small button that is located next to the power button.

After a few seconds you will be taken to the service menu. Choose Russian language, keyboard layout - Russian. Next we select

Diagnostics - Advanced Options - UEFI Firmware Options

Now the laptop will require a reboot - press the button Reboot and voila! We entered the BIOS.

Now use the arrows on the keyboard to go to the section Security, use the down arrow to select the item Security Boot and click Enter. Parameter Secure Boot move to position Disabled- turned off.

Return to the main BIOS menu with the key Esc and use the arrows to the right to go to the section Startup. Select an item Boot- click Enter. In this section we use arrows to find your hard drive - ATA HDD… and the + (plus) button located on the right side of the numeric keypad, we raise it to the very top of the list. If it doesn’t rise to the very top, then choose Windows Boot Manager and use the - (minus) key to lower it down. In the same way, we raise the CD-ROM drive to second place - ATAPI CD1.

Next in line can I put the device from which Windows will be installed in the event? unless it's a built-in drive.

We return again with the key Esc, click down on the item UEFI/Legacy Boot parameter UEFI Only, change to Legacy Only.

Save the configuration with the key F10 and agree with the key Enter.

Keep in mind: if you forgot something, changed it, or configured it incorrectly, you can only enter the BIOS on the Lenovo B590 to restore the default settings by removing the back cover of the laptop (no big deal - just 2 screws) and removing the CMOS battery for a while. Then be sure to set the correct date and time.

How to install Windows 7 on a Lenovo laptop instead of Windows 8

Now, actually, the Windows installation process itself.

After the reboot, there is no need to press any keys, although we have a key assigned to enter the boot device selection menu F12, the laptop itself will find the boot device and show the installation menu.

At the beginning of the installation, be sure to select Full installation.

How to partition a Windows 7 hard drive

ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED!!!

Everything is required, otherwise you will not be able to reformat the screw from CDA to NTFS. To delete, click on the right Disk setup— select sections one at a time and click Delete.

And don't forget to consider that you will be voiding your factory warranty. And if changing the operating system is more important to you than guarantees, then we continue dissecting the hard drive.

Now we need to create 2 partitions, another one that the system will create itself with a size of 100 MB, we do not count. To do this, click on the right Create, select the desired size (I set it to 200,000 MB - slightly smaller than the second partition) and click OK. We do the same with the rest of the unoccupied space, only we don’t set the size, but leave it as the system suggests.

We are done with partitioning the hard drive, select the second partition (the first is occupied by system files and has only 100 MB of space) and click on installation. There will be no further special features, Windows 7 installation will proceed as usual, just follow the system instructions.
