When you work on website design, you often have to deal with the fact that the found image, which would ideally suit your site, has a different background that it would be desirable to remove.
And so, open our picture in Photoshop.

The first thing you need to do is create a work area for the image with a transparent background. For this:
- in the layers window, double-click on our layer (with the lock)
- In the window that appears, click OK
The lock should disappear
If the background is plain:
Select the tool " Magic wand"is a very flexible tool for highlighting the desired area. Our task is to highlight the entire background except the picture. To do this, adjust the settings of the magic wand (parameter admission) until we get the desired result. We also use the Shift key to select an area in addition to the already selected one. Press Del and the selected area is deleted.
If the background is multi-colored:
We use the tool " Quick selection". Here our task is to highlight not the background, but the object itself, which should remain. Click until the desired area is highlighted. If too much is highlighted, hold down Alt and minus the area. You can view the result by pressing the Q key.
When the selection is ready, copy it with Ctrl+C. Create a new document with a transparent background (Ctrl+N) and paste the object Ctrl+V into it.
3 . If there is something extra left in the picture, use the “ Eraser“, just erase the extra background.
4 . Save the image for the Web (Alt+Shift+Ctrl+S) and select the GIF or PNG format (in others, our transparent background will turn into white).

Sometimes you come across a very suitable picture for your post and everything would be fine... But the background of the picture does not match the background of the blog or block with text. Apparently no one has this problem and no one has a white background, which would be suitable in most cases. I need transparent background!

How to make a transparent background for a picture
Let’s take as an example one simple picture in .jpg format (in general, the format is not particularly important):
There's a white background here that I want to get rid of and make a transparent background instead. Pixlr, an online version of Photoshop, will help us with this.
Uploading our image. On the right in the “Layers” window a “Background” layer will appear, on which there is a lock (prevents the background of the picture from being deleted).
By double-clicking with the left mouse button on this lock, you can remove the lock from the background. A checkmark will appear instead of a padlock.
Now take the magic wand (toolbar, right column, second button from the top), specify the following parameters: tolerance = 21, checkboxes for smoothing and continuity(usually such parameters are standard), although you can experiment with the parameters; and click on the background of the picture (in our case, on the white background).
Now we delete the background by pressing the “Delete” button and get the image we need with a transparent background.
As a result, the output is the same image with a transparent background.
The only negative of Pixlr- you cannot save the image in the .gif format, which also retains a transparent background, but is much lighter than the .png format. But if there is no other choice, why not take advantage of this?

Run the installation file and follow the program instructions. Once the installation is complete, Photo Editor will open automatically.
Load the image into the program
Click on the button Open file, in the window that appears, find the desired photo and click Open. You can also simply drag and drop the image into the program window.
Remove background
On the top panel, select the tab Replacing the background. Click the button Auto selection, – the program will automatically highlight the silhouettes of people in the photo.
To manually select any object, use the green brush and select the object you want to transfer to a transparent background. It is not necessary to pay attention to every millimeter of the image - any flaws can be corrected later. Next, use a red brush to mark the area around the desired object. Click the button Further.
Now you need to refine the edges of the cut out part of the image. To adjust the selection of large areas of the picture, select the appropriate mask brush. To refine the edge of the selected area, brush along it Hair highlighting. When you are satisfied with the result, move on to the next step.
By default, the background of the image will be transparent. If necessary, it can be replaced. To make the background one color, select one of the ready-made options (the program offers black, gray and white backgrounds) or use the palette. To put another photo in the background, click the button Add an image and select the desired picture. Then click the button Apply.
Save the result
Click the button Save. By default, the program offers to save the file as JPEG. This format does not support transparency, so you need to choose another one. Open the tab File type and select BMP, DPX, PNG, TGA or TIFF. Click Save. The program will automatically open the folder with the resulting file.

So, let's get started. We'll need Photoshop, but I don't have it. I use online photoshop. It’s a very convenient thing, I’ll tell you. And of course, the picture whose background we want to make transparent.

Let's go to online Photoshop. I used this one PIXLR
Select: Upload an image from your computer.
Now in the window on the right "LAYERS" I need to open the lock

- Once on the main page of the PhotoScissors online service, proceed to adding the required photo.
- In the browser, select an object and open it.
- Read the instructions for use and start editing.
- With the left mouse button, activate the green plus icon and use it to highlight the area where the main object is located.
- Use a red marker to highlight the area that will be deleted and replaced with transparency.
- In the preview window on the right, you'll immediately see changes to your edit.
- With special tools you can undo actions or use the eraser.
- Move to the second tab in the panel on the right.
- Here you can select the background type. Make sure transparent is activated.
- Proceed to save the image.
- The object will be downloaded to your computer in PNG format.
