Processing an image in RAW format is a fairly computationally intensive process, and it is irrational to spend the limited computing resources of the camera on “developing the negative” every time the photographer wants to view the footage. Therefore, the file includes copies of the image in JPG format in low, medium and high resolution.

From the point of view of a program that repairs damaged files, such a structure with multiple duplication of information is optimal. The raw data binary stream takes up the most space in the file, so statistically this segment is most likely to be damaged. But we have three more images in JPG format! The program is able to extract and, if necessary, repair these images. If you can pull out a photo of yourself large size- this is already a victory.
