Repair of Acer Iconia tablets at the service center. Review and testing of the Acer Iconia Tab A200 tablet Acer Iconia Tab tablet

I chose based on battery and screen quality. Both are at the highest level (though a year ago). Until this day I have never seen anything better. I'm not rich enough to buy cheap things. Full HDI, 5 cores and so on - I won’t describe them. Anyone interested will read it. I think it will be relevant for another three or four years before the advent of flexible tablets.

    Android 4.1 Screen resolution

Bright, high-quality display. Convenient location of the keys (maybe I’m already used to it), a large battery (enough for 2 days without problems), pleasant material from which the case is made, connection of almost all peripherals. Omnivorous video. I watch movies in full HD, it doesn’t slow down or speed up. Quite weighty (for me it’s a+). If you don’t have enough memory, you can feed a 64 flash drive (I haven’t tried it myself, but they write on the forums that it works).

I easily read a 2.5" portable HDD with a capacity of 1.5 terabytes. I watched movies from it. A good camera for undemanding users. The operating speed is quite satisfactory. The battery holds the charge well.

Quite fast, good screen. All interfaces work stably, no special glitches were noticed.

It's a bit dull when working in the browser, apparently due to the high screen resolution.

It's getting warm. under the right hand. In a horizontal position: the cores in this narrow case get hot.
And charging. They have already written and will continue to write: tear off their hands. What kind of miracle connector is this? There is a recipe. Micro USB charging (I have from HTC) charges at least 50% overnight when turned off (it depends on what kind of night it’s on)

The motherboard burned out after 7 months of use (see comments)
The USB connector and the power connector are combined and are a non-standard ACER solution
The power supply plug melted during charging and the charger failed

A little heavy and somewhat bulky. But, personally, this doesn’t bother me at all.
The built-in photo viewer shows a high-resolution image with gradual drawing of details (third-party programs - immediately).

I’ve been using it for over a year now, so I’ll be objective: The first and main bug of Acer’s idea is the charger. Not only is it special, it simply doesn’t charge others, or rather the charge only comes when it’s turned off, but it’s also hard to get a charger. Maybe I was unlucky, of course, but the first charger broke by itself, the micro USB plug fell off, was not recognized as a warranty case, and the second one flew because a child caught on the wire and tore it off. As a result, there are already two chargers at home, but both have a broken male plug. The battery held up well at first, but after a year the battery capacity dropped by a third. Still, for reading, the Internet - 10 inches is not a very mobile solution and weight. The girl refused literally a month later and had to take it for herself.

The processor gets very hot when playing a video or game
    - software cannot be updated
    - no ROOT rights
    - cannot be charged from a PC or other chargers
    - no separate charging port
    - applications freeze
    - built-in applications from Acer
    - inconvenient mini-USB location
    - easily soiled screen
    - heavy
    - you cannot receive calls
    - vibration does not turn off
    - bad camera

Tablets quickly fit into the life of modern people. Their price is relatively low, which is why their popularity is increasing every day.
Such a gadget is purchased not only for entertainment, but also for study and work. It is convenient to take it on a business trip or any other trip. The PC device allows you to view the Internet, movies, play games, read e-books or just listen to music.
When choosing equipment, be sure to pay attention to Aser tablets, which people of any income can afford. The products of one of the world's manufacturers are equipped with various functions and, as a result, are intended for different purposes.
Any electronics store will help you make a choice in favor of one of the devices, but buying from an online store in Moscow will be cheaper. We have the lowest prices, and the quality will undoubtedly please you.
To purchase any device of your choice, use our electronic catalog, which presents all kinds of models designed for different budgets. Making an order with us is really profitable. You can pay for the goods in any way convenient for you, and our employees, in turn, will deliver the goods immediately.

In 2014, Acer was not very active in the tablet market. They released literally two or three models on Android, and they were inferior to some competitors. But, apparently, in September the company plans to compete with market leaders in the budget and mid-range segments. The A1-713HD being reviewed today is just the first sign.

Appearance, materials, control elements, assembly

I have been complaining for a long time that, despite having such a beautiful ultrabook as the Acer Aspire S7, the design of Acer tablets is not very interesting. However, this is gradually starting to change, and the Iconia Tab 7 is a great example of this. And don't be fooled by the white front and rounded edges reminiscent of the look of Samsung tablets.

As soon as you turn the tablet over, all comparisons will disappear by themselves, because the back of the device is made of aluminum, with two plastic inserts on top and bottom (it may seem that they are also aluminum, but they are not).

The upper insert is removed; to do this, you need to pry it into a special groove located on the left. Hidden under the insert are slots for a standard format SIM card and a microSD memory card. By the way, I was surprised that Acer decided to use a standard SIM card and not a microSIM.

Most of the front side is occupied by a seven-inch display; above it there is a speaker mesh, a front camera, as well as an LED and light/proximity sensors. The LED turns red while charging, flashes for notifications, and turns green when the tablet is charged.

On the left side there is a volume rocker and a power button. Both keys have a short, hard stroke with a characteristic click, making them comfortable to use.

At the bottom there is a microUSB connector and a microphone hole, and at the top there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

On the back cover, in addition to the main camera, you can also see the mesh of the external speaker. It has an excellent volume headroom and good sound quality (for a budget tablet), but at maximum volume it barely wheezes noticeably, so I recommend listening to music on the Iconia Tab 7 at a volume of 60-70%.

The tablet is perfectly assembled, all parts fit tightly together. Nothing creaks, does not play, does not wobble.

Dimensions

The dimensions of the Iconia Tab 7 are typical for seven-inch tablets. There is no great thickness and weight, or, conversely, thin frames around the screen.

The tablet is comfortable to hold with one or two hands for a long time, however, this is true for most seven-inch models.

Screen

First, let's take a quick look at the display's specifications.

I am very pleased that Acer decided to bring back the oleophobic coating for their tablets, since it was absent in previous budget models. In fact, this is a significant benefit and a significant increase in convenience for the end user.

If we talk about the screen itself, I really liked it. It can be seen that a good IPS matrix is used, pixelation is almost invisible. The display has good viewing angles, a high level of maximum brightness and natural color reproduction. In the sun the image fades, but remains readable.

Overall, the Iconia Tab 7 has a very good display for a budget device.

operating system

The device runs Android 4.4.2 with a minimum number of additions from Acer. Let's talk about them in a little more detail.

Lock screen. Three shortcuts were placed on the lockscreen; they cannot be changed (in any case, I did not find such an option).

Notification curtain. When you swipe down in the upper right corner, a panel with wireless interface switches opens. A short press turns on/off a specific module, a long press opens its settings.

Browser. Acer decided, in addition to Chrome, to keep its own browser from Android 4.0, and also added a very convenient function to automatically adjust text to the screen size when it is enlarged.

Easy mode. In this mode, all icons become larger, fonts are larger, and a number of functions are limited. Apparently, it is designed for the elderly and children.

Otherwise, we have before us “pure” Android 4.4.2 with all its inherent functions and features.

Performance

First, let's take a look at the characteristics of the chipset and memory.

Traditionally, I’ll start with scrolling through desktops; it’s not as smooth here as in the Nexus 7 2013, this is due to the developers’ decision to make scrolling wallpaper. As we all remember, with such a function, few tablets work without stuttering. Therefore, I recommend installing a third-party launcher, such as Nova Launcher. Another confirmation of my words is that there are no lags in the application menu.

Most games also run great on this tablet, but Asphalt 8 only runs on medium settings.

Autonomous operation

The tablet demonstrates good results in terms of battery life. Based on our tests, its results are on average 20% higher than those of similar devices from B-brands.

Wireless interfaces

In addition to the usual set of modules, the manufacturer also added the ability to make calls from the tablet. And although holding such a device near your ear is not very convenient, in an emergency you can make a call or send an SMS from it.

Conclusion

The recommended retail price for the Acer Iconia Tab 7 is 7,000 rubles, for this money you get an excellent compact tablet with a high-quality display, the presence of an oleophobic coating (this is really very important in a budget device!), an aluminum case, good battery life and a 3G module with support for voice calls. The only disadvantages I would consider are slight slowdowns when scrolling through desktops; the problem can be solved by installing another launcher.

As for competitors, only two models from well-known brands come to mind.

In terms of characteristics and price, these two models have parity, the only difference is in the chipset used and the fact that the Fonepad 7 does not have an oleophobic coating (and this is its significant drawback). And this tablet has been out for quite some time.

The updated Tab 7.0 finally has HD resolution, thin frames and small dimensions (especially weight and thickness). I assume that it will also have higher autonomy. However, it costs 2,000 rubles more.

To summarize: for 7,000 rubles, the Acer Iconia Tab 7 is an excellent option for those looking for a compact tablet in an aluminum case with a good screen, oleophobic coating and 3G support.

By the way, for those who want to save money, Acer also has a simpler version of this tablet with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels and a price of 6,000 rubles. But I still recommend paying an extra thousand rubles and taking the older model.

, “Iconia” belongs to that part of tablet computers whose developers did not completely copy the design of the iPad. Of course, there are common features: for example, a black frame covered with the same transparent sheet as the display. And yet, the Iconia Tab A500 has some kind of originality - unlike many other tablets.

Total minimalism reigns on the front side: there are no physical buttons in the Acer Iconia Tab A500, only virtual ones. The only interesting thing you can see here is the small camera window. And also a very tiny one - you can’t even see it in the photo - the eye of the light sensor.

And, of course, there is the display - perhaps the strongest point of this tablet computer. With a diagonal of 10 inches, it has a resolution of 1280x800 - the pixels do not hurt the eyes, the picture looks smooth. We were also very pleased with the brightness, contrast and viewing angles: the image is clearly visible from almost any reasonable angle. As Acer says, an MVA-type LCD matrix is used here. Judging by the high quality of the image, it seems quite like that.

The back of the device is made of gray metal with a rough-brushed effect. Small inserts on the front panel - above and below the display - are made of the same material. These, however, are individual parts, and not a cleverly curved single sheet of metal.

In general, the body is assembled quite neatly, the panels fit well, so the Iconia Tab A500 is pleasant to hold in your hands. However, a fairly large number of parts sometimes makes themselves felt - when twisting, the case still creaks slightly.

There are two speakers in the Iconia Tab A500, both located on the rear panel. Their sound volume is quite high - at the level of an average laptop. There is no need to especially worry about blocking them with your fingers or knees - in this case, “forward” they begin to sound even louder.

There is a second camera on the back panel. Its lens is slightly larger than the front one, but also small. A large decorative blotch around the peephole should apparently emphasize the coolness of the 5-megapixel matrix.

The steepness, however, is purely imaginary: the photographs turn out disgusting, to put it mildly. It was entirely possible to get by with a less “megapixel” camera. Or even remove it altogether - it’s hard to imagine that the owner of the tablet won’t have at hand, if not a camera, then at least a phone (and nowadays they put much less shameful cameras in mobile phones).

The tablet is quite thin, but without going overboard, so that a fairly large number of useful elements fit on its side faces. They are evenly distributed on different sides, which is quite convenient. On the right is the power button, headphone output and digital video connector - unfortunately, a very exotic Micro HDMI format. To our even greater regret, the corresponding cable was not found in the kit.

On the left there are both USB ports: a full-size USB-host, to which you can connect flash drives, and a Micro USB-slave, used to communicate with a computer. Here you can also find a reset button and an external power input.

On the bottom side of the case there is an unidentified connector: we can assume that it is intended for connecting a docking station.

There is a rocker button on top that allows you to adjust the sound volume. Next to it is a miniature slider that fixes the display orientation.

Hidden behind a small plastic door is a Micro SD card reader. The free space to the left of it in the version with a 3G module will be used for a slot for a SIM card.

Despite the fact that the Iconia Tab A500 uses a display with the same diagonal value as the Archos A101, the Acer tablet is noticeably larger: about a centimeter wider and taller with the same thickness. Why is that? Firstly, Archos used a matrix with an aspect ratio of 16:9, and Iconium used a 16:10 screen. Secondly, the frame here is noticeably wider.

What’s more unpleasant is that the tablet is not very light: its weight is 760 grams. Due to the “wide-format” shape of the case, it greatly outweighs it if you hold it with one hand—the “support” hand gets numb quite quickly. Of course, there are no problems when gripping with both hands, but you won’t be able to work with the keyboard this way: the screen is too wide for your fingers to reach the center without lifting your hand.

There is no built-in stand, but Acer offers a stand case as an additional accessory - however, without magnets and other technological wonders.

Acer usually prefers to save on packaging, which is quite reasonable. But in this case, the box looks expensive - clearly intended for gifts.

The packaging, however, is minimalist: in addition to a surprisingly large amount of absolutely meaningless waste paper, the box contains only a charger, a Micro USB cable and a microfiber cloth for the inevitable cleaning of the glossy display.

The included power supply had an unexpected drawback: the cable length is only one meter. Considering that the sockets are usually located quite low, this allows you to move away from the wall by a maximum of 70 centimeters. So using the Iconium while charging is very inconvenient. This can be especially problematic in hotels: hotel designers usually place sockets not in places where they are convenient to use, but in those where they are not conspicuous. Under the nightstand or behind the minibar.

The power supply is surprisingly large: the fact is that its power is quite high, 18 W

The tablet is built on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform and runs the Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb operating system. The volume of permanent memory is 32 GB - plus, of course, there is the possibility of using Micro SD cards.

In addition to the light sensor already mentioned above, the device is equipped with a motion sensor and a GPS module. Wireless communications include Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. The version with a 3G module is not yet available, but Acer assures that everything will definitely be available.

Compared to previous “phone” editions of Android, the “tablet” version of Honeycomb actually works more conveniently. And it looks neater. Perhaps the tablet “robot” has not yet reached the level of ideal convenience. But the desire to throw the device out the window, which sometimes appeared when communicating with a telephone OS on a tablet and, especially, on a smartbook, no longer arises. The right path, as they say.

Curiosities of adaptation/localization still occur, but not in such quantities as before.

“Do not connect” or “cancel”. What to choose?..

Thanks to Tegre, on this tablet computer you can play games that paint a three-dimensional picture - although, of course, you shouldn’t expect the beauties that everyone is used to on PCs and game consoles. At least for now.

However, the majority will still choose a popular game that can handle the 2D engine quite successfully, preferring to spend system resources on advanced physics. In both cases, everything works quite quickly.

Angry birds look at you as a potential victim

At minimum brightness, the Iconia Tab A500 can work in web surfing mode for up to 8 hours - that is, the battery will last for an entire working day or, if you prefer, for a transatlantic flight.

If you turn the backlight to maximum, this time will be reduced to 4.5 hours. However, even with the minimum backlight level, the screen is bright enough to work indoors. “Sufficient” in the most literal sense, the desire to increase the level of illumination simply does not arise. So in this case, you should still focus on the first value.

⇡ Conclusions

Compared to what tablet computer manufacturers offered us last year, this is a significant step forward. A high-quality display, a truly user-friendly interface and normal system speed - Archos 101 really lacked all of this. In addition, the Acer Iconia Tab A500 is the first tablet in Russian retail for which they are asking an adequate amount.

If you compare the device with the hit product of a famous fruit company, there are certain advantages. At a minimum, the ability to work normally with files without using a BDSM attraction called iTunes. And even without a computer at all - thanks to a full-fledged USB port and a memory card reader. Perhaps in this form it all begins to make sense.

There is a tablet computer in almost every home, just as once upon a time in every home you could find a system unit with a monitor. Tablets managed to win over a large part of the market, since no one needs large and noisy machines when the bulk of their needs are met by much more compact devices.

At the same time, like computers, tablets quickly lost popularity; they no longer inspire delight and are bought as bedside gadgets (to watch a movie in the evening or let a child play with). In this regard, expensive and advanced devices like the iPad are gradually loosening their grip. Most budget devices are enough. One of these tablets will be discussed in this review - Acer Iconia Tab A1 811.

Equipment

In the box from the device, in addition to the gadget itself, there is a small brochure. In fact, instructions that are suitable only for those who have never used such gadgets at all, and even then they are unlikely to be useful.

Also included are: a charger (a unit for connecting to the mains) and a USB cable (for charging and synchronizing with a computer).

Unfortunately, the box did not contain any cases, headphones, or other accessories.

Fortunately, all this stuff is easy to find on the Internet. The tablet was quite popular in its time, and the hardworking Chinese riveted a lot of accessories suitable specifically for it. Cases, protective films, all kinds of stands, styluses - in general, everything your heart desires.

Device design

Dimensions: 209 x 147 x 11 millimeters.

The Acer Iconia Tab A1 811 tablet has a classic design. The body is made of ordinary “soft-touch” plastic. The case is not very strong, prone to contamination, and slightly loose.

The gadget turned out to be quite thick, almost 12 millimeters, and its weight is 430 grams, which is not bad for a device of this size. The frames around the display are a little disappointing; they are too massive compared to what users of modern devices are used to seeing. The same iPad mini looks much more compact. At the same time, the frames save you from accidental clicks and have a positive effect on your grip, thanks to them the tablet lies in your hands more confidently.

Device display

On the front panel of the Acer Iconia Tab A1 811 tablet there is a 7.9-inch diagonal display panel. The display is not of high quality, despite the fact that it uses an IPS matrix. The picture is not calibrated, color rendition suffers greatly, and the resolution is not impressive, only 1024 x 768 pixels (dots per inch - 160).

The display is covered with glossy glass, which is in no way protected from glare (on a bright sunny day, seeing anything on the device will be an almost impossible task, not to mention direct sunlight).

The touchscreen of the 811 cannot be called “wooden,” but at the same time it often confuses positioning, responds with a delay or does not respond at all, which is especially noticeable when typing and playing games. It is designed to reduce smudges on the display panel and make it easy to remove fingerprints from it.

Device performance and memory

The heart of the device is the famous Chinese chip from MediaTek - MT8389. The processor operates with four cores, two of which are high-performance, used in games and complex programs, and the remaining two are energy-efficient, used in light applications and in standby mode. The processor clock speed reaches acceleration up to 1200 Megahertz.

Also hidden under the lid of the gadget are 1 gigabyte of RAM and 8 gigabytes of main memory (in the Acer Iconia Tab A1 811 8gb version). Most of the main memory is occupied by the operating system, fortunately the situation is smoothed out by the presence of support for MicroSDHC memory cards up to 32 gigabytes. It is important to note that in Android version 4, work with memory cards has not yet been established, so you can only store documents, photos, music on it, but you cannot install software.

Graphics processing is handled by the PowerVR SGX554, which has proven itself in premium devices such as the iPhone.

Performance should generally be sufficient for most simple tasks. You should not try to play complex games on this tablet; they will either not start at all, or will run with extremely low frame rates and frequent freezes. Such a small amount of RAM greatly contributes to the unloading of programs, which means that they will be launched anew each time (this process takes time, therefore, the tablet will work very slowly).

Device autonomy

The Acer Iconia Tab A1 811 3g is equipped with a rather modest battery. The battery capacity was only 4960 milliampere/hour, which can provide no more than 7 hours of operation (at average load).

The operating time depends entirely on how the gadget is used, on network coverage (if a cellular module is used), on running applications, and the use of geolocation services (GPS).

Image quality

The camera is far from the most important aspect of a tablet computer, and it is pointless to hope for luxurious photos with it. The Acer Iconia Tab A1 811 has two cameras. The main (rear) with a resolution of 5 megapixels and the secondary (front) with a resolution of 0.3 megapixels. Both cameras perform rather a utilitarian function.

Using the main camera, you can take a photo for your notebook or scan a document. The front camera is suitable for video calls (selfie fans have nothing to do with it). No autofocus. For some reason, the developers decided not to add such a function, which significantly aggravates the situation and greatly spoils the impression of using the camera.

operating system

The entire line, including the Acer Iconia Tab 811 and others, runs on the 4th generation Android, named after KitKat chocolate bars. Today the platform is outdated and significantly inferior to more modern versions. Some applications (both standard and sold in the Play Store) are not supported, but supported versions can be downloaded on the Internet and from other repositories.

This version of the software has made a serious leap in terms of performance, which allows the tablet to work quite smoothly and quickly, despite the not-so-powerful hardware under the hood. Another important point is the adaptation of the interface to large displays. This version also significantly reduces power consumption, which has a positive effect on the operating time of the device.

The system has a set of pre-installed “software” from Google, as well as from partners. The first one cannot but rejoice, since the software from Google is of good quality and pleases with its functionality. The second is very disappointing, since third-party, pre-installed “software” only takes up space and rarely turns out to be useful (considering that most of it is demo versions of low-grade games).

Wireless and wired interfaces

The device has a number of standard wireless interfaces. These include: Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth version 4.0, as well as support for 3G mobile networks. Unfortunately, the tablet does not work with 4th generation networks (LTE), which for many may be a decisive factor due to the large difference in speed between 3rd and 4th generation networks.

Another important feature of the device is support for microHDMI, which significantly expands the multimedia capabilities for the subject of this review. It is possible to seamlessly transfer images from the tablet to a TV or display with HDMI support.

If you have an OTG cable, you can connect all kinds of peripherals to the tablet. For example, if you like to type on a full-size physical keyboard, you can easily connect it to this tablet. The same goes for gamepads; they also work great with this model.

Acer Iconia Tab A1 811: reviews

The main advantage of the device is the price. Users evaluate a tablet based on its cost, which makes the evaluation less objective.

One of the advantages of the device is a properly functioning GPS, since many users purchase such gadgets as a replacement for navigation ones.

Many people like to use their tablet as a phone. It can actually receive calls and send SMS, which makes it even more functional.

They also speak positively about the battery, which can withstand a full working day (of course, it all depends on the individual user, but the fact remains a fact).

The gadget also had unexpected shortcomings, such as a very weak Wi-Fi signal and mobile networks. Compared to similar devices, the Acer Iconia Tab A1 811 maintains a connection much worse, often losing it altogether.

Well, the common problem for everyone is a weak camera, incapable of creating more or less decent photographs.

Another serious problem is the existing batch of tablets with broken power controllers that can destroy the battery (discharge it to zero, without the ability to charge it on its own).

Some users were able to connect a USB modem with a SIM card to the tablet.

Interestingly, for this device, it is not at all difficult to find spare parts, including the display. In the event of a breakdown, most of the spare parts can be easily purchased on the Internet and replaced yourself (such work should only be carried out with full confidence in your competence, otherwise you should turn to professionals).

Prices

The gadget belongs to the category of budget devices, therefore it pleases with its price. The tablet can be purchased for less than 8 thousand rubles. The latest price in the Svyaznoy store for Acer Iconia Tab A1 811 8gb 3G stopped at 6,250 rubles.

Instead of a conclusion

This product from Acer seems completely nondescript and rather boring, but a good home tablet is a tool for solving life's problems and should not be too colorful. The company focused on user experience for the largest possible audience and accessibility of the device.

Essentially, this is an ideal device for those who want to own a tablet computer, use it for work or school, but have a modest budget.
